This writing, recently published in full for the first time, constitutes a conference in which the author exposes her opinions on the theme of art of female authorship, weaving a series of feminist criticisms of the inequality between genders in the space of artistic creation. In her text, Júlia lists several names of artists and women intellectuals, in order to support her argument in defense of the feminine creative power and point out the importance of the transformation of patriarchal culture. Thus, from the historiographic perspective and based on feminist epistemology, we seek to emphasize the conference as fundamental for the study of female and feminist writing feminists in Brazil between the 19th and 20th centuries. Keywords: Júlia Lopes de Almeida. Streszczenie:
The Indonesian literary tradition during the reform period was marked by the rise of female writers who raised the issue of feminism. Within the framework of locality and contextuality, the feminism movement echoed by female writers comes in diverse expressions. This study aims to describe the reference figures and issues of Islamic feminism that are represented in novels by Abidah El Khalieqy. This research uses a feminist literary criticism approach. The data sources of the research are three novels by Abidah El Khalieqiy, namely Perempuan Berkalung Sorban, Geni Jora, and Mataraisa. The technique used to gather feminist voices in the three novels is a close reading. The analysis was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study are as follows. First, Islamic feminist figures who were referred to by the feminism movement were Fatima Mernisi and Riffat Hassan. Fatima Mernisi is known as a misogonic hadith critic, while Riffat Hassan uses the hermeneutic principle in the interpretation of the Quran. Second, the issues of feminism represented are: the lives of women in the pesantren tradition, the position of women in the family, the view of normal sexual relations and relationships, and the interpretation of the hadiths and verses of the Qur'an relating to women. Islamic feminism voiced by Abidah El Khalieqy brings its own color compared to the Western feminism movement which refers to the concept of ecriture feminine. Keywords: Islamic Feminism, ecriture feminine, Indonesian literary history, politics of difference, intersectionality REPRESENTASI FEMINISME ISLAM DALAM NOVEL-NOVEL KARYA ABIDAH EL KHALIEQY AbstrakTradisi sastra Indonesia masa reformasi ditandai maraknya penulis perempuan yang mengangkat permasalahan feminisme.

An analysis of popular feminism as a category in Latin American feminist studies from its origins in the 1980s and its disappearance in the 1990s to its resurgence in the present through the protagonism of the World March of Women, asks what is at stake in this contemporary claim to popular feminism in relation to the multiplication of feminisms. The contemporary use of the concept specifies a feminist praxis that is contentious, materialist, and counterhegemonic in permanently unsettled relations both with other feminisms and mixed-gender movements on the left. Despite converging agendas for redistribution, it also remains in considerable tension with black and indigenous feminisms. As a racially unmarked category, contemporary popular feminism continues to reproduce an elision of race and colonialism common to mestiza feminism and the political left.

The work of feminists in science may seem less voluminous and less theoretical than the feminist scholarship in some humanities and social science disciplines. However, the recent burst of scholarship on women and science allows categorization of feminist work into six distinct but related categories: 1) teaching and curriculum transformation in science, 2) history of women in science, 3) current status of women in science, 4) feminist critique of science, 5) feminine science, 6) feminist theory of science. More feminists in science are needed to further explore science and its relationships to women and feminism in order to change traditional science to a feminist science.

Any universal definitions of feminism - as well as what constitutes feminist theory, political strategy, and related practices - are problematic. The patriarchal relations that feminists oppose have different configurations depending on the social, economic, cultural and political contexts. Consequently, there are various feminisms: multiple syntheses of local and universal knowledge. This article analyzes the conceptual and political rifts within the global feminism associated with the hegemony of western ideas and its criticism by transnational and postcolonial feminists and examines the postsocialist transformations and localizations of feminism and, in particular, the evolution of feminist ideas in post-soviet Russia.

Over recent years, young feminist activism has assumed prominence in mainstream media where news headlines herald the efforts of schoolgirls in fighting sexism, sexual violence and inequity. Less visible in the public eye, girls’ activism plays out in social media where they can speak out about gender-based injustices experienced and witnessed. Yet we know relatively little about this significant social moment wherein an increasing visibility of young feminism cohabits a stubbornly persistent postfeminist culture. Acknowledging the hiatus, this paper draws on a qualitative project with teenage feminists to explore how girls are using and producing digital feminist media, what it means for them to do so and how their online practice connects with their offline feminism. Using a feminist poststructuralist approach, analyses identified three key constructions of digital media as a tool for feminist practice: online feminism as precarious and as knowledge sharing; and feminism as “doing something” on/offline. Discussing these findings, I argue that there is marked continuity between girls’ practices in “safe” digital spaces and feminisms practised in other historical and geographical locations. But crucially, and perhaps distinctly, digital media are a key tool to connect girls with feminism and with other feminists in local and global contexts.

This paper discusses the discourse of interpretation of the Qur'an and misogynistic hadith by feminist activists in Indonesia and Malaysia as a strategy in promoting feminism in their respective countries. For this reason, the discussion focuses on interpretation methods, production of feminist interpretations, and dissemination of feminist interpretation. The study is qualitative research in which data is taken through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study show that 1) The interpretation of the Qur'anic texts and hadith is done by seeing them as open and constantly developing texts. It means that texts could respond and interact with modern knowledge such as gender, law, and human rights. 2) The feminist approach to the Qur'an and hadith involves misogynistic challenges including marginalization, stereotypes, subordination, and violence against women. It also looks at the multiple roles of women and their subordination 3) Feminist interpretation is socialized by feminist activists from Islamic boarding schools and university backgrounds. They took part in discussions and wrote about feminism in magazines and social media. They also participate in women's organizations that advocate women protection and campaign for women's rights including the hazards of polygamy. This study shows that power relations within organizations have a significant impact on the interpretation of religious texts. This interpretation was then used to motivate women activists to promote feminism.

How can bodies, embodied experiences and feelings, be recognized as central elements of becoming and being feminist? This article – a mixture of memoir and research reflection – aims to reveal the emergent and embodied nature of feminist paths using myself as case in point. Recounting five personal ‘movements’ over three decades, I show how my material situations, physically-felt struggles and embodied encounters with others, especially women, wrested – sometimes catapulted – my precarious self-identification as a feminist. Writing this as a memoir, I hope to evoke in the reader memories and experiences that highlight their own embodied feminism. The article identifies some problems feminists commonly face, contesting unhelpful hierarchies of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ feminists. I explore some gifts of feminism – encounters with writing and people – which have provided theoretical innovation and personal insight for me, and offer fertile avenues for further research. Avoiding trying to ‘trap’ feminism as one set of views or experiences, I seek to show how our feminisms are always embodied: opportunistic, emergent, sometimes inconvenient, neither comprehensive nor respectable, but frequently bringing agency, invigoration and surprising pleasures. It gives all who call ourselves feminists, cause for optimism.

Feminists feel that in literary criticism not enough consideration is given to feminism as an ideology in the production of texts. According to them, existing literary criticism is strongly man-centred. This is especially true of the practice of South African literary criticism. Although feminism does not have at its disposal a formulated feminist literary criticism, a great deal of research has been done in this direction abroad. This is especially the case in Europe and America. Feminist literary critics apply themselves to the representation of the woman in works by male authors and an analysis of feminine experience in the production of texts by women. This article is an exploration of the Anglo-American and French approaches in feminist literary criticism. An attempt is made to formulate the aims of a possible South African feminist literary criticism in order that not only the general norms, but also the feminist codes in the production of a text, speak towards the final interpretation of a work.

To analyse some fairy tales such as Beauty and the Beast and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs from the perspective of modern feminism is like revising the paradigms which form our romantic expectations and illustrate psychological ambiguities that frequently confuse contemporary women. Portraits of adolescents waiting and dreaming, patterns of enchantment, and the romanticism of marriage contribute to the power of fairy tales. However, such fantasies praise the heroines’ incapacity to act independently, the reliance on exterior rescue and the binding to the father or to a prince. Although many readers recognise obvious elements of fantasy, they sometimes still identify themselves with the heroes and especially with the heroines. Unconsciously, women can transfer from the fairy tales to the real world cultural norms, which exalt passivity, dependency and self-sacrifice as feminine virtues. Intrinsically, fairy tales perpetuate the male status quo, making female subordination seem a desirable fate from which it is impossible to escape. It is this feminine perspective and feminist criticism that I intend to expose in my thesis, touching on the importance that fairy tales still have today, in the 21st century, not only on child rearing but also on the adults’ behaviour. In this thesis, I briefly explain how fairy tales emerged several centuries ago and how they evolved until our time in several versions, with several perspectives. My purpose is to analyse how fairy tales, on the one hand can influence us positively, showing us what is good and what is evil, and on the other hand, can influence us negatively because they present us with the “socially” accepted behaviours expected from women. In fairy tales, women are almost always represented as stepmothers and bad witches or as sweet, passive princesses dependent on the male image (father or prince) in order to be happy. It is this representation of female image that I intend to explore and analyse, showing my point of view of how fairy tales continue to represent behavioural models considered adequate to the female sex and to mirror a female image which is still accepted and seen as the most adequate – the image of a submissive, passive woman waiting for her prince charming to save her and bring her the desired happiness.

In this study, possibility of establishing feminist solidarity, sustained and based on feminist politics in Turkey is examined. Commonality discourse, the notion of sisterhood and identity politics, creating illusionary homogeneity are criticized of being exclusionary and limiting. Contemporary accounts of feminist solidarity are investigated in order to find a way out for establishing solidarity across difference. However, it is seen that these contemporary approaches are far from designating a driving force to stimulate feminists / activists to come together. It is argued that in order to achieve feminist solidarity respecting differences is a must. It is also argued that solidarity has to become a powerful relation among feminists and to do so internalized inequalities and power holding within activism has to be interrogated. Consciousness raising among activists is offered as a means to overcome challenges to activism and barriers to solidarity. Furthermore it is argued that feminism has to become the motto of activism and feminist politics as the basis for establishing feminist solidarity.

This research examined definitions of feminists and the relationship between self-identification as a feminist and willingness to engage in action to reduce inequality between men and women. Two focus groups were held to discuss these issues with undergraduate women. All but one of the members self-identified as feminists. Group members aligned themselves with one of two definitions of feminist. Some women defined feminists as those who desire equality for women. This group distanced themselves from radical feminists. The other women asserted that feminists were concerned with human rights for both men and women. The women emphasized that men as well as women could be feminists. Consistent with social identity theory that posits that important identities are associated with action, the women participated in two types of activities that were related to reducing gender inequality. One type of action was individualist, such as responding to sexist remarks. The other type was involvement with groups and organizations that collectively worked to reduce inequality. The one group member who rejected the label of feminist held views and engaged in behavior consistent with a cultural definition of feminist.

This work discusses the consequences of the Brazilian feminist movement in the Brazilian feminist press. Based on specialized literature in Brazilian feminism and on field research, it shows that the feminist press after-1974 can be divided in two different moments: first and second generations. The first is mainly worried with social class questions and social differences, and the second is mainly focused on genre questions. Two historical events mark the division between the first and the second generation of feminist periodicals: the II and the III São Paulo State Woman Congress, that happened, respectively, in 1980 and 1981.

What is it about feminism that invites so many different opinions on what ‘counts’ and what doesn’t? People from vastly different cultural situations variously categorise feminist practices as extreme, radical, reactionary, unbalanced, co-opted, revolutionary, elite, exclusive, progressive, passé, and hysterical. The desire of both feminists and anti-feminists to control feminism emerges as the limiting of what feminism is, whom it is for, and where it is going. The urge to limit feminism seems, in some cases, to overtake the urge to spread the word and celebrate feminism’s successes. And it is not just anti-feminists who attempt to limit feminism – even feminists spend an inordinate amount of time defining certain practices out of the feminist spectrum. In this thesis, I document and analyse the way we limit feminism – its participants, meaning, practices, language, history, and future. I explore the reasons why we need to contain feminism in this way, looking in particular at those who have an investment in keeping feminism comfortably small. I invite back into the realm of feminism a wide range of activities and theories we generally invalidate as feminism, including the words of several ‘unofficial’ feminists I interviewed for this project. In essence, this project goes towards the rethinking of the term ‘feminism’ by examining the widely differing and often contradictory definitions of ‘what counts.’

In the current European context of systemic crisis, the lack of links between autochthonous and migrant women, at a time when racism and xenophobia are growing day by day becomes imminent the need to study the possibilities and limits of a feminist political action where the juxtaposition of the different interests of women is the starting point in order to configure articulations. Based on the theory of intersectionality and feminist postcolonial perspectives, this thesis studies from a feminist and activist methodology, possibilities, difficulties and limits for the articulation of common political practices between organizations of migrants women and autochthonous feminists in Euskal Herria. To this end, through Narratives Productions technique, current and potential points of articulation and tension between their practices and political action projects are identified. Product of sharing narratives between groups and organize a physical encounter, a process of articulation between groups within the context of the Platform for the World March of Women in the Basque Country, where the research begins to take part as an activist, started. In this context, through the Observation-Participant technique and subsequent dialogue and discussion with the participants, this thesis analyzes the reproducing and breaking practices of colonial and patriarchal logic between participants. On the one hand, racist attitudes, condescension, monogamous and white thinking, and (self)underestimation of non-hegemonic knowledge appear as practices that reproduce colonialism among women. On the other hand, breaking practices are identified during the process: care pacts for criticism and politics of intimacy where affections, awareness of the semiotic-material inequalities between participants and mutual recognition become relevant policy tools in order articulate the differences.

Abstract Over the past decade. feminists have used the terms ‘feminist’, ‘female’ and ‘feminine’ in a multitude of different ways. [... ] I will suggest that we distinguish between ‘feminism’ as a political position, ‘femaleness· as a matter ofbiology and ‘femininity’ as a set of culturally defined characteristics. The words “feminist” or “feminism’ are political labels indicating support for the aims of the new women’s movement which emerged in the late 1960s. “Feminist criticism, then, is a specific kind of political discourse: a critical and theoretical practice committed to the struggle against patriarchy and sexism.

Feminist Urbanism is a research project from FADU - UBA in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which aims to make visible the imbrication of theoretical ideas of Feminism in urban planning, through the analysis, diagnosis and proposal of public policies. For this exercise, the objective was to explore the possibilities of "Urban Project" as an urban planning instrument, on the attempt to consider it as an interface for understanding public policies for the redevelopment of a slum. The experience allowed the articulation of notions such as Popular Habitat, Urban Project and Feminist Urbanism, in addition to the exchange of experiences between the academy, the government areas, and neighborhood political spaces. The interns were able to have an approach to the understanding of popular habitat from the theoretical ideas of feminism, developed through gender perspective as a methodology. When thinking about the place of women in the popular habitat management from feminism, questions arise: How these processes of social production were throughout history? How should a Feminist Urban Management be? What subjectivities matter? How are processes evaluated? This communication condenses the results obtained in the framework of an academic exercise with Urban Planning students, in which it was proposed to generate devices to measure and evaluate the role of women, as active political subjects, within an ongoing participatory process: the Integral Reurbanization Project (IRUP) of Villa 20 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. For this, an analysis of the proposed participatory management devices was carried out, through primary sources (interviews) and secondary sources (literature referred to the case). The experience resulted in the creation of three designs: the Feminist Timeline, the Interference Scheme, and the Evaluation of Gender Transversality, which together allowed the generation of a set of weighting of the process from a feminist and gender perspective. Keywords: Feminist urbanism, Participation, Popular habitat, Urban management.
The multisectoral approach of Feminist Urbanism has managed to promote new forms of intervention in the design and management of the city, deploying numerous Good Practices in various territories. Under this premise, this work proposes a comparative analysis of three cases of urban projects for the popular habitat in Chile and Argentina: the Intercultural Neighborhood "Community of change", (2011 - 2016) in San Martín de los Andes; the “Alto Comedero” Neighborhood (2003 - 2014) in San Salvador de Jujuy, and the “Maestranza” Neighborhood (2020 - 2022) in Central Station, Santiago de Chile. The diagnosis of the roles played by the people involved, the urban and building typologies carried out, and the forms of organization used, aimed at verifying the degree of associativity of each case with respect to the theoretical ideas of Feminism within the urban discipline. We worked from the individual signing of each case through 6 key categories (Context, Objective, Actors, Strategy, Impact, and Traits of Feminist Urbanism in the case). Keywords: Feminist Urbanism, popular habitat, urban project, Argentina, Chile. In this thoroughly researched, skillfully written thesis, the author explores young women’s dis/identifications with feminism, and dis/articulations of feminism, within contemporary Aotearoa/New Zealand. The premise of the research is that whilst many young women value the work of the early feminists in terms of gender equality and individual freedom for themselves, only a small number position themselves as feminist. Indeed, the author identified research with young women in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and Canada which supported this premise. Comparative research on young women’s identifications with feminism in Aotearoa/New Zealand, was, however, absent within the literature and this thesis set out to address this gap. Overall, the thesis addresses the New Zealand context with considerable scholarly integrity and depth, demonstrating originality and a well-considered analytical response to the data.

Streszczenie:
A relatively small number of countries have an explicit “Feminist Foreign Policy” (FFP). Those most often cited are Sweden, Canada, France, Mexico, and Spain. In theory, an FFP moves beyond gender mainstreaming in foreign development assistance to include: (1) a wider range of external actions, including defence, trade and diplomacy (2) a wider range of marginalised people, not just women. Within foreign development assistance, it implies a more coherent and systematically institutionalised approach to gender mainstreaming. In practice, those countries with an explicit FFP implement it in different ways. Canada currently focuses on development assistance, France on development assistance and formal diplomacy, Sweden more comprehensively covers the trade and defence policy arenas. Mexico and Spain are yet to produce detailed implementation plans. There is increasing academic interest in FFP, but most analyses found during the course of this rapid review focus on narrative content of policies rather than impact. Policy advocacy and advice is provided by several high-profile advocacy organisations. National government agencies in Sweden, France and Canada have produced some evaluations of their FFP, but the evidence is weak. There are many international institution evaluations of gender mainstreaming for many different sectors that are context-specific.
