Streszczenie:
The Indonesian literary tradition during the reform period was marked by the rise of female writers who raised the issue of feminism. Within the framework of locality and contextuality, the feminism movement echoed by female writers comes in diverse expressions. This study aims to describe the reference figures and issues of Islamic feminism that are represented in novels by Abidah El Khalieqy. This research uses a feminist literary criticism approach. The data sources of the research are three novels by Abidah El Khalieqiy, namely Perempuan Berkalung Sorban, Geni Jora, and Mataraisa. The technique used to gather feminist voices in the three novels is a close reading. The analysis was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study are as follows. First, Islamic feminist figures who were referred to by the feminism movement were Fatima Mernisi and Riffat Hassan. Fatima Mernisi is known as a misogonic hadith critic, while Riffat Hassan uses the hermeneutic principle in the interpretation of the Quran. Second, the issues of feminism represented are: the lives of women in the pesantren tradition, the position of women in the family, the view of normal sexual relations and relationships, and the interpretation of the hadiths and verses of the Qur'an relating to women. Islamic feminism voiced by Abidah El Khalieqy brings its own color compared to the Western feminism movement which refers to the concept of ecriture feminine. Keywords: Islamic Feminism, ecriture feminine, Indonesian literary history, politics of difference, intersectionality REPRESENTASI FEMINISME ISLAM DALAM NOVEL-NOVEL KARYA ABIDAH EL KHALIEQY AbstrakTradisi sastra Indonesia masa reformasi ditandai maraknya penulis perempuan yang mengangkat permasalahan feminisme.

Looking backwards at a century of capricious discourses, now after another turn of the century, one easily comes to the common point in all Feministic discourses; which all are as efforts to prove women's presence and their equality to men in various aspects of life. The passage of the decades did not mutate the nature of all these feminine studies; just have posed the topic in diverse areas; for the whole body of the Feminist dialogisms and ideas were appointed by patriarchal discourses. This indicates that the current feminist dialogisms are not totally feminine discourses, rather, feminine-masculine ones formed out of men's mischievousness saving their patriarchal authority which changes the discourses to a masculine/feminine relation. However, what nowadays Feminism, as a school of thought, needs is a feminine intuition, that is a moment of feminine epiphany, by which not only women will be able to reach a new understanding of femininity but men also will recognize the essence/existence of females. Discussing Virginia Woolf’s dialogism in ‘A Room of One’s Own’ and two novels by Zoya Pirzad (Persian narratives of a highly male dominated society) the study concludes that Feminism needs an intuitive feminine epiphany; an epiphany that both sexes should come to in a society, to enable the school of feminism to come to a purely feminine dialogics and be released from all the mischievous feminine-masculine discourses.

An awareness of women's oppression at the hands of society's dominant patriarchs is at the heart of feminist consciousness in literature. Victimized women are consequently relegated to a subaltern position within the organization. Because of this, these women have a very anti-male outlook. For many women, the mere mention of the word "feminism" evokes images of a fiercely independent and radical streak as they fight tooth and nail to establish their inherent superiority or parity with men. Feminism is an anti-oppression and anti-discrimination movement, whereas feminine consciousness is the realization that one is the center of another's attention. Being aware of this only sometimes implies fighting for social supremacy. It is also not intended to exclude males. The actualization of feminine awareness may hasten humanity's progress toward the fullness of being. In his plays, Sri Aurobindo depicts female characters that reflect distinct feminine understanding but do not demand equal rights with men, in contrast to the feminist authors who saw their movement as a fight for women's equality with men. The feminine qualities that are intrinsic to them motivate their husbands to face the world with courage. In Sri Aurobindo's plays, women represent the tremendous feminine force and provide men with strength, nutrition, and encouragement. A powerful and spiritually advanced entity can bestow the ability to love, defend, rescue, and inspire. In this paper, I'll do my best to highlight how feminist and feminine awareness vary.

AbstractIt was due to the perpetuation of certain precepts of femininity that an anti-feminine mentality took hold in the imagination of primitive Christianity, taking root in European culture and revealing itself in art and literature demonstrations since the low-medieval period. This paper seeks to discuss an important part of this way of thinking – the association of the feminine with a confused state or the spread of confusion, whether through cunning speech or through simple exposure to the presence of the feminine, which for early Christianity was closely linked to the original sin and the Fall. This paper seeks, then, to demonstrate how an anti-feminine mentality was transferred to the literary representation of the feminine and of love in medieval Europe, presenting itself in different lyrics and songs. Keywords: Imaginary. The ways Gothic fairy tales and fairy-tale feminism interact are not always clear. An undercurrent of feminist studies of fairy tales is fueled by the 1970s Lurie-Lieberman debate, which focused on the question of whether fairy tales liberate or repress women. Meanwhile, critics such as Lorna Piatti-Farnell and Lucie Armitt have offered studies of the interplay between Gothic horror and fairy tales. However, these studies have limits, often emphasizing the violence, self-mutilation, and cannibalism of women, like those in Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm’s versions of “Cinderella” and “Snow White”. This paper argues that “Rapunzel” (1812) is key for understanding the Gothic and feminist discourses of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre (1847). Firstly, this paper argues that a self-reflexive and self-productive relationship between subjectivity and desire shapes and disrupts the Gothic, fairy-tale, and feminist discourses of Jane Eyre, resulting in a specular feminine-I that has inspired pluralistic readings of the text. Secondly, an analysis of the Rapunzelian metaphors of ‘wicked’ hunger and ideological towers unmasks the double consciousness that not only fetters feminine subjectivity but delimits the domestic structures of marriage and home. Multiplying the ways nineteenth-century Gothicism, fairy tales, and feminism may interact, Brontë’s specular study of feminine desire makes way for a productive and agential feminine speaking-I.

This written work aims to show how Florbela Espanca and Gilka Machado have represented the feminine image in some selected pieces of their poetry oeuvre. Sensuality traits and natural rupture with the traditional point of view about love affection within feminine discourse act as predominant features into the authors’ poetic universe. Such features expound the women individualization process which express through authors’ setting-free and non-obeying discourse a kind of feminine donjuanism. It is intend here to spot the building of this feminine individualization process. sometimes this building process exposes a sensibility exaggerated by strong erotic impulses, and in others times that process reveals the very sentimental anghuishening experience through which both poets set free their inner struggles involving oppostie tendencies and feelings. This study draws a woman’s profile inside Floberla Espanca and Gilka Machado’s poetry by taking for granted that the feminine image trajectory and representation within authors’ poetic discourse expresses a pioneer proposal of breaking-rules values of christian burgeois society.

Feminist movement in Africa lacks capable guardians to steer the development of feminine identity or theory, and to operationalize the feminist agenda. The apparent lack of a national or continental feminist theory has not helped to elevate the status of the majority of women beyond the patriarchal controls, particularly in the rural and peri-urban communities, despite improved social modernization. Africa’s feminist crisis involves the lack of leadership, ideological vacuity, absence of structure or movement, and the non-application of cultural; political; class; religious and tribal identities in developing feminist theory. In search of capable feminist guardians, the tendency of feminist groups is to co-opt self-actualized African women into feminism with or without their consent, and without regard to the accidental coincidence of those personalities’ narratives with feminist epistemology. Feminism in Africa is in search of relevance within the public space. This paper interrogates these issues and uses the narrative of several self-actualized women in Africa, who have, apparently, been co-opted into feminism as a result, to discuss aspects of the crisis and the delimiting public policy and legislation against, perhaps, the development of feminine identity.

Indications of interditions to the feminine speech and its forms of resistance: the Careta magazine and the will of truth (1914-1918). Throughout the 20th century, women gained new spaces in socio-political relations. There were striking restrictions on the socio-political feminine performance, which were based on a society of patriarchal standards, which judged the female sex inferior in human relations. This paper presents statements from the variety magazine Careta, a source for delimiting historical power exercises through the circulation of statements that served both information and instruction of society in general. For women, behavioral guidelines and the expression of opinions on the effervescent and diverse present, as a way to conform them to the destiny of modesty or sometimes suggesting irony in observing the disparities between masculine and feminine. In contrast to the determinations of a place of modesty, there are also signs of female resistance to the knowledge and powers that oppressed and naturalized a place of silence for them. The movement of historical events suggests margins inhabited by latent possibilities of responses to the prevailing order. The suffragist movement, the First War, the Normal School, with or without the content of the feminine rights movement, are presented as a means of proposing the debate on the tension established in the game of strength and power between the masculine and the feminine. Is there something as masculine and feminine values? Attempt of an everyday language approach The aim of the paper is to answer a question that has often been raised but not thoroughly explored, namely, whether there are masculine and feminine values. In axiology values are mostly considered in a gender-blind way, while in feminist critique, e.g., in difference feminism, there is a valorization of the feminine but a differentiated axiological consideration is not undertaken. By the use of the hermeneutic method of interpretation and linguistic analysis, as well as of an axiological and feminist critical approach, the paper will unfold some ambiguities, and respectively the possible answers of the question, by showing the crucial importance of the value system, which defines the order of discourse and thus legitimizes or puts in question the sociocultural order.

This paper aims to explore Helen Cixous’ postmodernist trends in her formulations of a new form of writing known as ecriture feminine. The paper attempts to validate the view that Cixous’ “The Laugh of the Medusa” is regarded as the manifesto of postmodern feminism. This is done by attempting a critical discourse analysis of Cixous' narrative of ecriture feminine. Deploying a multifaceted-framework, ranging from postmodernism to psychoanalysis through poststructuralist theory and semiotics, the study reveals Cixous' metamorphosing and diversified trend of feminist writing that transposes the subversion of patriarchy into a rather bio-textual feminism, known as bisexuality. The paper highlights the significance of Cixous’ essay as a benchmark of postmodern feminism.

Recently, there has been renewed interest in the relationship between feminism and occupational therapy, but does occupational therapy continue to operate on the feminine principle which underlies the philosophical basis of the profession? Drawing on a wide range of recent literature related to education, professionalism, management, research, clinical reasoning and complementary therapies, this article argues that the feminine principle is very much alive in the theory and practice of occupational therapy today.

Partindo das três primeiras obras de Alberto Pimenta, cuja publicação coincidiu, em território nacional, com o período de vigência do Estado Novo, este artigo procura compreender o modo como as figuras femininas emergem num fazer poético onde o erotismo sempre caminhou a par de uma denúncia profundamente cáustica e irreverente.Palavras-chave: Alberto Pimenta, poesia portuguesa, poesia erótica, figurações do feminino, erotismo. Abstract: In order to contemplate the eroticisation of the female body in Portuguese poetry from the second half of the twentieth century, it is necessary to re-visit the new image of woman, which at that time was reflected in a libertarian vision of female sexuality and in the increasing activism of the feminist struggle. Focusing on the first three works of Alberto Pimenta, whose publication coincided, in the Portuguese context, with the “Estado Novo” dictatorship, this article seeks to understand the way in which female figures emerge from a poetic practice where eroticism always appeared in tandem with a deeply caustic and irreverent social criticism. Keywords: Alberto Pimenta, Portuguese poetry, erotic poetry, representations of the feminine, eroticism.

This study, based on identity and selfhood in postmodernism, probed into feminism deconstruction, which would help to interpret the postmodernism narrative trends in contemporary English plays. With the purpose to make sarcasms on “top girls”, she deconstructed feminism through four aspects: feminine characters disrespected other feminine characters, feminine characters gave up feminine and motherhood identities, feminine characters’ success in different times and spaces embodied their sufferings, and the play without male characters was full of male’s impacts everywhere. By means of deconstructing feminism, she made sarcasm on top girls and blamed the power systems in the current society.

The current research paper tries to explore feminism and marital relations in an English short story by Bina Shah in a Pakistani context. Halliday's Trnsitivity System (2004) as textual analysis supported to identify the feminine and feminist traits in English fiction. The high frequency of material process (66) out of 200 clauses presented Raheela as a feminist, whereas the Relational process (56) reflected her feminine traits. The participants of the processes and circumstances made the institution of marriage clear; the desire and choice for marriage, sending marriage proposal and accepting proposal were all by the groom, his parents and bride's parents, but the bride had no right to express her choice and is generally supposed to follow her parents. Marital relation was built without the compatibility of the participants of marriage. The research helped to identify the writer's reflection of feminism and unfolded Asian culture with respect to marriage.

At the end of the Renaissance, Madeleine de Scudéry, an early exponent of historical fiction, infused French feminism with the spiritual qualities of the Renaissance with her novel The Story of Sapho. In this context, this essay takes it as the main subject and analyses the feminist qualities of this novel by examining the influence of the work over a period of nearly four centuries and comparing it specifically with the ideas of Gournay, one of the pioneers of French feminism, Rousseau, a revolutionary tutor, and Mona Ozouf, a contemporary historian. The study reveals that, unlike the feminism of Gournay's novel, Scudéry uses Sapho to reveal the birth of a new era of women with feminine virtue, feminine friendship and feminine love, and in this way to leave behind the old feminism of power struggles and gender differences. In the 18th century, this novel influenced Rousseau's Émile, in which the heroes and heroines are highly similar, and he continues to some extent the universalist spirit of The Story of Sapho, Rousseau's examination of the relationship between men and women has a similar concern to that of Scudéry, the pursuit of a harmonious society for both sexes. Finally, this novel echoes the uniqueness of French feminism as described by contemporary historian Mona Ozouf. In the long line of French feminism, Scudéry’s vision embodies the humanistic concerns of a feminism with a humanist core.

Anton Szandor LaVey wrote The Satanic Witch in 1970 as a response to the contemporary discourses of his time: feminism and the occult revival. This essay focuses on LaVey’s treatment of the scent of feminine fluids blood, sweat, and urine—in The Satanic Witch and selected texts in order to demonstrate that LaVey’s emphasis on the importance of bodily secretions is an extension of his carnal-magical worldview; he employs the arcane language and aesthetics of the occult to methods of physiological and psychological manipulation in order to influence others and achieve desired ends. Throughout this article I apply Mary Douglas’ theories in Purity and Danger (2002 [1966]), which address our notions of contagion, dirt, and taboo; feminist rhetoric on 1960s and 1970s feminine hygiene products and their putative cleansing of natural feminine scent; and finally, the use of sexual fluids in esoteric magical practices such as described by Aleister Crowley. This article illustrates that LaVey’s use of feminine fluids for magical efficacy reflects his notion that magic is firmly rooted within one’s own body, and the capacity of one’s own will, while also incorporating and responding to the surrounding discourses of his time.

The empowering characteristics of beautification, however, are difficult and perhaps impossible to represent in a sexist context; therefore, while beautifying may be a positive experience for women, being viewed as a beautified object in current Western society is almost always opposed to women's equality and autonomy.

The article aims to analyze the connections between women and nature in Bisheshwar Parsad Koirala's novel Sumnima. To examine the relation between women and nature in the novel, the theory of eco feminism has been used. Eco feminism deals with the relationships between women and nature that particularly deals with the domination of women and exploitation of nature in a patriarchal social order. Eco feminist critics believe that issues of women and ecology are interrelated. They critique that the domination of nature by human beings is guided by the patriarchal world view, the same world view that justifies the domination of women. Thus, they resist the exploitation of women and nature. Koirala's Sumnima underscores the patriarchal structure based on dualisms like men/woman, masculine/ feminine, culture/nature, and spiritual/material, which destabilizes the system based on the hierarchy of the traditional gender roles. Thus, the article argues that the novel is written from the perspective of eco feminism. The analysis of the study centers on the depiction of women and nature in the novel. The finding of the article shows that, in patriarchy, women and nature are treated as feminine and they are dominated and exploited. The analysis is significant as it helps to understand the importance of feminine to maintain harmonious relation between men, women and nature.

As one of the most influential feminist theorists in Western academic circles, Hélène Cixous is often associated with écriture feminine (feminine writing), a term she coined in 1977, and with a fluid, poetic style both in her essays and in her fiction. This article investigates how Hélène Cixous uses the concept of the ‘feminine’ in her plays as a container for heterogeneity, liminality and difference, mobilizing it to animate feminist strategies that interrupt male, white and/or hegemonic forms of subjectivity. If for Cixous the practice of feminine writing is fundamentally characterized by the desire to create a mode of expression in which (gendered, embodied, racial) difference and otherness would retain their alterity, in dramatic writing she found an especially conducive medium for the realization of that desire. This article examines Cixous’s anti-realist postdramatic works, from her first produced play Portrait of Dora (1976) to her works for Ariane Mnouchkine’s Théâtre du Soleil, in the context of a feminist aesthetics of estrangement, and considers how her plays enact feminist theory’s own movement away from the psychoanalytical discourses of the 1970s and 1980s to postcolonial and materialist critiques. The article employs a range of intersectional critical methodologies for situating Cixous’s dramatic writing within a broader feminist praxis, using the work of feminist performance scholars like Elin Diamond, Rebecca Schneider and Jill Dolan to consider the liminal Other as a precarious feminine figure that Cixous re-inscribes into discourse. Feminine writing, the progressive movement away from realism towards postdramatic theatre, and Cixous’s artistic collaboration with Mnouchkine are each considered as feminist strategies towards a rendition of the subject that can reiterate its otherness on stage. The central argument is that it is the enactment of these strategies in live performance that makes Hélène Cixous’s concept of femininity as liminal difference so relevant for feminist politics today.

Therefore, this paper studies Cindy Shermans Untitled Film Stills and uses the theory of feminine body writing which is proposed by Hlne Cixous in The Laugh of the Medusa to explore what Sherman wants to suggest about feminism in Untitled Film Stills. The study has shown that, Cindy Sherman combines feminine body writing with photography, and uses self-direction and selfie to display women trapped in the male gaze, which show her awakening feminine consciousness and her satire on patriarchy. The article discusses some of the debates over the construction of gender taking place in the satanic and Left-hand Path (LHP) milieu, in particular the different varieties of upvaluing of “the feminine.” This includes disputes over what the term feminism entails, what the best strategies for women to gain more power are, and if “feminine” is an essence that can be contrasted with a fixed “masculine.” Notions of gender polarity as necessary for magical practice or cosmic balance are given special attention, as are borrowings from feminist terminology (e.g. “patriarchy”) by figures that are far from feminist in orientation. Aside from textual sources, the article draws on communication with 44 informants. Three basic approaches to gender can be discerned in the milieu: 1) Gender as an insignificant category, 2) Gender as a natural polarity, 3) Gender as false consciousness. Of these, number two is the most common, while number one is quite seldom seen—gender is a major issue, one way or another. Femininity is frequently discussed by both men and women, while masculinity is a less popular topic. Femininity, then, is a particularly contested matter in the milieu. Overall, the dominant view of gender is that the two sexes should be strictly dichotomized. The article concludes that with some exceptions most organizations in the milieu are numerically dominated by men. However, some important groups have periodically been led by women, and there are several female key producers of ideology. The partly reactionary views concerning gender issues held by some female leaders indicate that female leadership does not necessitate that a conventional feminism would permeate the organization. Further, it is difficult to see any absolute correlation between female leadership and upvaluing of the feminine in mythology. Moreover, the article demonstrates, such upvaluing does not in itself always signify an underlying ideology of political feminism.

She uses historical and religious examples to prove that a women’s worth is more than what male authors make it out to be. Some scholars relate this work to early feminism, however, de Pizan is very aware of the female place in society and is simply asking for accurate representation and female virtue to remain in these sources rather demanding equality of the sexes. Streszczenie:
This article explores how certain feminine voices are adapted or ‘naturalized’ in audiovisual translation in order to conform to the intended audience’s assumed gender beliefs and values. Using purposefully selected examples from the American series Sex and the City, the author analyses elements pertaining to American feminism and how they are rendered in the French dubbing and subtitles. While the subtitles retain most references, the dubbing reveals a marked tendency to delete, weaken and transform allusions to American feminist culture as well as female achievements in the public sphere and feminist ideology. These findings are discussed in relation to the history, place and representation of women and feminism in France. The case study suggests that integrating a feminist approach in audiovisual translation research could help women’s studies detect the unspoken gender values of the cultures for which audiovisual translation is produced.
