The purpose of this study was to determine what factors influence the food security of coffee farmers, primarily through the Farmer-to-Farmer approach (or independent extension officer) and formulate a model of food security for coffee farmer families. This approach uses a quantitative approach with survey research methods. The research was conducted in Malang Regency, East Java Province, especially in the Districts of Ampelgading, Sumbermanjing Wetan, Trirtoyudo and Dampit. This study's population was 2,622 coffee farmers with a total sample size of 96 people selected using the Propositional random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on the variant Generalized structured component analysis (GSCA). The results showed that the Family Farmers' Food Security was more dominantly influenced by independent Extension Officers' Role. Meanwhile, the role of independent extension officers is more dominantly influenced by the role of civil servant extension officers. The conclusion of this study is to increase the role of Independent Extension Workers in increasing the food security of coffee farmers. It is necessary to increase the role of independent extension officer, especially in providing consultation to farmers.

China has formed a new C2F (company-to-farmer) model of internet and agriculture. How to build a sustainable linkage of the C2F platform is important for promoting agricultural industrialization. Based on the cognition theory and internet thinking, we characterized the linkage mechanism and stability framework of the C2F regarding default proportion, benefits fairness and benefits gap. Using the logistic regression method, we constructed the impact effect model of benefit links stability based on the farmers’ characteristics, platform cognition and social environment. We found that in the C2F, optimizing farmers’ age structure (17.93%, impact effect), increasing farmers’ income level (16.79%), as well as improving farmers’ education level (14.33%), policy support (11.35%), platform service quantity (9.82%), market volatility (9.11%), platform transaction transparency (9.07%), farmers’ risk tolerance (7.93%), and platform technical guidance effect (3.67%) had a significant impact on reducing default proportion (28.13%) and benefits gap (36.55%), thus heightening benefits fairness (35.32%). The research suggested, we should promote the sustainability of C2F by improving the farmers’ digital ability and platform function, developing innovative linkage mechanisms between companies and farmers, strengthening government guidance, and protecting the policy environment.

<p>The revitalization of farmer organizations has become the central paradigm in agricultural development. In Indonesia, increasing farmer participation in farmer groups, associations and cooperatives is the strategy to revitalize farmer organizations. This study aimed to determine the factors influencing farmers' participation in farmer groups, associations and cooperatives. This study employed data from the Sugarcane and Tobacco Plantation Farm Household Survey in 2014, consisting of 8,831 (70.73%) sugarcane farmers and 3,645 (29.27%) tobacco farmers. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors contributing to farmers' participation in each organization. The results showed that harvest area, access to extension and contract farming positively affect farmers’ participation in organizations. Farmers' age and education positively affect their participation in associations and cooperatives but do not significantly affect their group participation. Land tenure has an ununiform effect on farmer participation in each organization. Tenant farmers are less likely to participate in farmer groups and cooperatives, but they tend to participate in associations. Meanwhile, the owner farmers are less likely to join cooperatives. Government support positively influences farmer group participation, shows a negative effect on participation in associations and has a non-significant effect on participation in cooperatives. Finally, farmers' wealth gives a positive effect on their participation in cooperatives, a negative effect on their participation in associations and a non-significant effect on farmer groups. These results depict that farmer groups are more inclusive than cooperatives and associations.</p>

Abstract One of Smallholder farmers face various obstacles in developing their farming business including access to capital one of the efforts to answer the challenge is to strengthen farmer organizations. In Tuban, there is a HIPPA or Water User Farmers Association that is able to provide capital for farmers and contribute to Village Income. This study aims to analyze strategies to strengthen HIPPA Sekar Padi in Bandungrejo Village to increase capital loans for farmer and village income. The method used in this study is SWOT analysis based on the results of processing organizational documents and in-depth interviews with HIPPA administrators and farmers. The main strategy to strengthen HIPPA to contribute to village income and provide capital for farmers is reduce fuel and electricity consumption and ensure that the Tuban Regency Government accelerates the construction of flood prevention infrastructure. Through changing the electricity tariff class from business to industry, HIPPA can contribute 35-45 million rupiah to village income in dry season and more than 100 million rupiah to increase capital for famers. In the rainy season, HIPPA relies heavily on government policies to control floods. By increasing capital for farmers, it is hoped that it can help farmer access production facilities. By additional village income, the village government can build basic infrastructure and increasing social funds, so that the welfare of the smallholder farmers as part of SDG’s indicator can be improved.

High production costs, a lack of institutional roles for farmers, a lack of farmer competence, and limited use of agricultural support technologies, such as information technology (IT), all contribute to low garlic production. The high level of garlic imports into Indonesia makes it difficult for farmers to sell their produce because their prices are higher than that of imported garlic. This impacts the money farmers can earn from growing garlic. This study investigated the roles of the government, farmer institutions, and farmer competencies in garlic farmers' ability to adopt IT, their farming performance, and overall welfare in Buleleng Regency. The study's research design was quantitative and employed structural equation modeling (SEM). It included 196 garlic farmers from Buleleng Regency as participants. The findings revealed that the government, farmer institutions, and farmer competencies all had a direct and significant impact on garlic farmers' adoption of IT, as well as on their performance and welfare in Buleleng Regency. Also, the adoption of IT and farming performance have the potential to mediate the roles of government, farmer institutions, and farmer competencies in determining welfare. The study also discovered that farming performance was capable of mediating the effects of government involvement, farmer institutions, farmer competencies, and the capacity to embrace IT on the well-being of garlic farmers in Buleleng Regency.

Indonesian farmers can achieve sustainable livelihoods through organic farming. However, conventional farming is still the major agricultural application in Indonesia. Currently, there is little knowledge about the level of livelihood assets ownership by farmers between organic and conventional paddy farming to achieve sustainable livelihoods. This study is an initial comparison of the level of livelihood assets owned by organic and conventional paddy farmers. 34 conventional farmers from the Mulyo 2 farmer group and 32 organic farmers from Sumber Makmur 1 farmer group in East Java province were recruited as respondents. By using Sustainability Livelihood Analysis, it was found that human capital was at the same level between both farmer groups. The level of natural capital owned by respondents in the Mulyo 2 farmer group is higher than in Sumber Makmur 1. The level of financial, physical, and social capital for respondents in the Mulyo 2 farmer group was lower than in the Sumber Makmur 1 farmer group. It concludes that natural capital is the determinant to achieve sustainable livelihood by respondents in the Sumber Makmur 1 farmer group. Meanwhile, financial, physical, and social capital are the determinants to achieve sustainable livelihoods in the Mulyo 2 farmer group.

The farmer card program had been launched since 2016 in the java region, but its implementation had not shown significant progress until now. The objective of this study is to analyze the farmers perception of the farmer card program in supporting the distribution of subsidized fertilizers. The results of the analysis using the weighted average index (wai) showed that there were some strong and weak factors of farmers perceptions of this program. The farmers gave a strong factor in their perception about the certainty of obtaining subsidized fertilizers and the ease of obtaining subsidized fertilizer by using the card. However, the farmers also had a strong factor in their perception that the farmer card program wqs not well socialized and had difficulty using the card. On the other hand, the analysis also found that farmers had a weak perception of using farmer cards. This was because the use of farmer cards was not compulsory for the farmer, and there was a lack of promotion from the local kiosk in using the farmer card to obtain fertilizer from local fertilizer distributors. The main problem in implementing farmer card was the lack of awareness from the farmer to use them, difficulties in using the card, and the use of this card was not being required by the local government. To make farmer card program successful, we recommended to implement it as a national program, enhance cooperation and common views among the parties, provide the availability of a communication infrastructure network, and socialize it more comprehensive and planned

South Konawe Regency, as an agricultural region with a large population and a dominant proportion of households working in agriculture, pays attention to farmers' welfare as very strategic. One of the tools to measure farmer welfare currently used is the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP). The aim of carrying out this research activity is to determine the farmer's exchange rate (NTP), and the factors that influence the farmer's exchange rate food crop and plantation sectors in South Konawe Regency. This research uses a quantitative research approach. The sample for this study was determined to be 600 farmers, consisting of 300 food crop farmers (150 lowland rice farmers, 85 corn farmers, and 65 cassava farmers) and 300 plantation crop farmers (105 cocoa farmers, 65 cashew farmers, 65 pepper farmers, and 65 coconut farmers). The sampling technique that will be used is multistage random sampling. To collect research data, use the observation method, questionnaire method, and documentary method. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, NTP analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. The research results showed that the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) in the food crop and plantation sectors in 2021 was 97.21% and 97.21% (NTP < 100), meaning that food crop and plantation farmers experienced a deficit. Production prices rose less than increases in consumption prices and production costs. The level of farmer welfare has decreased compared to the previous level of farmer welfare. The factors or variables of land area and farmer expenditure significantly influence the NTP of farmers in the field of food crops by 93%. The farmer's land area variable has a significant positive effect on NTP, while farmer expenditure has a significant negative effect on NTP in the field of food crops. Factors or variables of family responsibilities, income and farmer expenses significantly influence the NTP for plantation crops at 96%. Farmers' income has a significant positive effect on NTP, while family responsibilities and farmers' expenses have a significant negative effect on NTP in plantation crops in South Konawe Regency.

Abstract Strengthening the cattle farmer groups in Indonesia cannot be separated from their social capital supports, including developing trust, norms, relationships, and networks. There is a question about how many members in a farmers group can produce high levels of social capital. This study aimed to identify the group size to enhance the social capital within a cattle farmers group. The study was conducted through a survey method on 147 Kebumen Ongole Crossbreed cattle farmers using a multistage sampling method. The descriptive statistical method and two-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The cattle farmer groups were divided into three categories: category I (<15 farmer members), category II (15-20 farmer members), and category III (> 20 farmer members). The results show that the social capital of farmer groups in Kebumen Regency, Indonesia was classified into high (score =120.80). There was a significant difference of social capital among group categories (P<0.05). The group with 15-20 farmer members had the highest social capital (score=126.77) when compared to the other groups in different categories. Therefore, various efforts to enhance the social capital should be systematically developed, starting by forming farmer groups with number of memberships 15 to 20 farmers per group.

Farmers themselves are allowed to manage on-farm variety adaptability trials (VATs), to represent farmer management practices in preference to research management. In this approach, within-trial uniformity and thus the scientific value of VATs will be lost. A study was conducted using rice to ascertain whether representation of farmer management in VATs is necessary and to test an approach that represents farmer management without losing within-trial uniformity and the scientific value of VATs. In the proposed approach, both the representation of farmer management and within-trial uniformity are reasonably assured through implementation of site-specific farmer practices by research personnel. This approach was compared with complete research management using recommended practices in a VAT conducted with five rice varieties in six farmers' fields over two seasons. When farmer management was implemented by research personnel, popular varieties among farmers were judged most adaptable. However, when VATs were managed using recommended practices, popular varieties among farmers were judged least adaptable. This provided direct evidence to show the usefulness of representation of farmer management and the validity and practical feasibility of the proposed approach in managing VATs.

Farmer suicidal hotspot detection proposed in this paper aims to reduce the death of the farmers. Using geographical information system is vital in predicting potential hotspots for farmer suicide. This study has collected and analyzed data on farmer suicide in India, using state-wise information from the National Crime Records Bureau and has determined the recent higher rate of farmer suicide. Spatial statistics analysis tools that address average nearest neighbor analysis has been used. Global analysis through Moran's Index, analyzed that the farmer suicides have a clustered pattern and plotted a farmer suicidal hotspot map using Getis-Ord (Gi*) analysis. The results show the highest farmer suicide index is in Maharashtra and hence, farmer suicidal hotspot has been found district wise. There are four farmer suicidal factors such as, number of farmer suicide, the population density of farmers, climate, and income. This hotspot geographical region helps to identify future suicidal risk by studying the hotspot map. Moreover, government policy may suggest a hotspot zone to help the overall development of the country’s growth.

This research study was carried out ever first time on the field of 14 farmers of subdivision (tahseel) Hyderabad (rural), Sindh province of Pakistan during Rabi season, 2021-22 to evaluate the capacity of the targeted area as well as performance of chickpea variety DG-92 to find out a new chickpea belt in Sindh province of Pakistan. The field study was conducted in a three replicated randomized complete block design (RCBD) with net plot size of one acre per farmer, means 14 farmers-14 acres in total. Different fields of fourteen (14) farmers were taken as treatments, these were (T1 = Farmer 1, T2= Farmer 2, T3 = Farmer 3, T4 = Farmer 4, T5 = Farmer 5, T6 = Farmer 6, T7 = Farmer 7, T8= Farmer 8, T9 = Farmer 9, T10 = Farmer 10, T11 = Farmer 11, T12 = Farmer 12, T13 = Farmer 13 and T14= Farmer 14) were evaluated the performance of chickpea variety DG–92 for various agronomic traits. The results showed that highest plant population m-2 (32.95) was recorded from the field of farmer 4 and the lowest plant population m-2 (22.89) was recorded from the field of farmer 10. The maximum plant height (77.23 cm) was recorded from the field of farmer 1 and the minimum plant height (48.63 cm) was recorded from the field of farmer 8. The maximum branches plant-1 (21.70) were recorded from the field of farmer 1 and the minimum branches plant-1 (7.37) were recorded from the field of farmer 5. The maximum pods plant-1 (75.28) were recorded from the field of farmer 3 and the lowest pods plant -1 (30.30) were observed from the field of farmer 8. The maximum seeds plant-1 (152.37) were recorded from the field of farmer 4 and the lowest seeds plant-1 (37.97) were observed from the field of farmer 8). The maximum seed weight plant-1 (25.40 g) was observed from the field of farmer 4 and the minimum seeds weight plant-1 (6.74 g) was observed from the field of farmer 8. The maximum seed index (310.42 g) was recorded from the field of (Farmer 5) and the minimum seed index (216.03) was recorded from the field of farmer 8. The maximum seed yield (1713.7 kg ha-1) was observed from the field of farmer 1 and the minimum seed yield (309,0kg ha-1) was observed from the field of farmer 7 and the maximum biological yield (5140.9 kg ha-1) was recorded from the field of farmer 1 and the minimum biological yield (929.8 kg ha-1) was recorded from the field of farmer 7. It is therefore, suggested that subdivision (tahseel) Hyderabad rural has the great potential to cultivate Chickpea (Gram) crop to add another major Pulse crop in the cropping pattern of the area during Rabi season.

Abstract Fairtrade in coffee farming has been widely applied in several coffee-producing countries. Not only providing a quality guarantee to coffee consumers, but fair trade also guarantees higher price and benefit for coffee farmers in exchange for all the efforts made during coffee cultivation. Gayo Coffee is one of the commodities that is being produced and becomes exporting commodity in Indonesia. The Fairtrade system has been implemented by coffee Gayo farmers in Takengon District Since 2018. There are two groups of Gayo Coffee farmers in Takengon District, non-fairtrade and fairtrade coffee farmers. The result of study shows that productivity incremental of non-fairtrade farmer is greater than fairtrade farmer due to the requirements of fairtrade such as the use of organic fertilizers which causes farmers’ productivity to be lower. However, income incremental of non-fairtrade farmer is lower than fairtrade farmer due to additional price that is only given to the fairtrade farmer.
