Streszczenie:
This study investigates the differences between family angels and other informal investors in Norway. We employ a portfolio framework as the vehicle for comparison, along with an ad hoc component of involvement. The underlying thesis is that the actual behavior of the investors in Norway should reflect their investment philosophy—at least on a differential basis. The results suggest that family angels differ from other informal investors on several grounds. Family angels have different investment behaviors than other informal investors and they differ somewhat in their exit preferences.

Streszczenie:
In this article, we extend the boundaries of research on family language policy (FLP) by addressing the situation that occurs when the State takes over the care of unaccompanied minor refugees and asylum-seekers, thereby assuming by proxy the responsibilities normally assigned to families. We analyse media discourses involving unaccompanied minors (UMs) in Norway, a Scandinavian country perceived as having liberal policies, in a corpus of 30 articles published between 2016 and 2017, a significant period of immigration in a European context. Our analysis reveals a polarized debate around these children, often termed anchor children, who allegedly aim for future biological family reunification. Assuming the family role as proxy, Norway is referred to as a Nanny State, making decisions for the UMs regarding their well-being, education and language learning. Engaging with recent calls for decolonizing and southernizing critical discourse studies (CDS), we anchor our analysis onto decoloniality. We argue that this epistemological move allows us to identify opposing understandings of culture undergirding two competing sides in debates about UMs in Norway. The study has both theoretical and methodological implications for future conceptualizations of the family in FLP research.

Stay at home fathers are a growing group in American society. However, most research has focused on the quality of care provided by stay at home fathers, rather than the decision making which determines which parent stays home. We sought to investigate this by attempting to put a price tag on maternal care versus paternal care while examining the potential effects of nationality and social support on that price tag. We collected data from 240 participants in the United States and 250 from Norway via online survey. Participants were asked how much a mother needs to earn to allow her husband to stay at home to provide childcare and how much a father needs to earn to allow his wife to stay at home and provide childcare, in addition to items to assess gender roles attitudes. No effect of social support was found, but Norwegians were slightly more likely than Americans to place a heavier earning burden on the husband. There were few differences in gender role attitudes by nationality. The impact of public policy and social desirability on the results are discussed.

The strict family reunification policies in Norway and Denmark have affected many individual’s family life. Individuals currently struggle to be reunited with their non-EU family members because of strict requirements. For some, moving to Sweden can be a solution due to their more liberal reunification policies. This paper analyses how family reunification policy in Norway and Denmark has affected the lives of those who relocate to Sweden. The method that was used for the analysis was the interviewing method. In the theoretical framework transnationalism was applied, and it focuses on the connection transnational migrants have with three countries at the same time. The transnational perspective illustrates the different obstacles transnational migrants face. The analysis showed that the reasons individuals relocated from Denmark and Norway was because of age and income requirements, deportation and suspect of arranged marriage by the migration agencies. The analysis also showed that distance relationship, distant parenthood, social belonging and identity helped shape the individual’s life.

Norwegians keep moving away from the small villages in the countryside to the bigger towns. They seek the urban life far away from the boring and all too safe life in the parish. In other countries we can see something different, and among these are Netherland. More and more people here wants away from the stressful life in the big tows, to peace and quiet in rural areas. Their only problem is the lack of these places. Some solve this problem by moving to countries like Norway. This thesis is about Dutch who move to the Norwegian countryside to find the perfect place to live, a place where it‟s quiet, where they can be close to nature and give their children a safe place to grow up. They are in search for the rural idyll. The picture they have of this idyll also involves more freedom at work, including less working hours and the opportunity to arrange this themselves. Another wish is to have more spare time with their children. To achieve this, they become entrepreneurs. The theme of this thesis will be discussed within a theoretical framework of the concepts of rurality and entrepreneurship. Globalization and place will also be introduced. To find out more about this subject, I have talked to five Dutch couples living in rural areas in southern Norway, and operating their own businesses.

Streszczenie:
Sexual minorities or those minoritized as a result of the expressed or assumed sexual orientations and identities (i.e., lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer), by virtue of their sometimes stigmatized identities, oftentimes report deleterious and unprovoked experiences of harassment, victimization, and prejudice. For several decades, research has confirmed that lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals are at high risk for maladaptive outcomes, including higher rates of suicidality, depression, substance use and abuse, and anxiety disorders. The goal of this dissertation was to 1) document and compare these disparities across two cultures, 2) disentangle social support systems that are important to sexual minorities, and 3) identify factors that best protect sexual minorities against the effects of bias-based bullying. Large datasets were used to compare, understand, and trace the processes of interpersonal relational support on adjustment for sexual minorities. Specifically, different cultural normativities were hypothesized to explain differences in adjustment across culture, parent support was hypothesized to be most associated with lower depression and higher self-esteem, and parent acceptance was expected to buffer the relation between bias-based bullying and depression for sexual minorities. These expectations were generally supported and demonstrate the clear role that parents and friends contribute to mental health for sexual minorities. Implications for future research, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders are discussed in different contexts of sexual minority adjustment.

This thesis aims to analyze the development, its deteminants, instruments and objectives of family policy in the Czech Republic and Norway, focusing on maternity and parental leave. With respect to the different attitude of the two policies, support for families with children is compared on several theoretical levels and also demonstrates the use of supporting families in practice. It was found out, that Norway provides greater support to the ratio of expenditure to GDP, as well has a more appropriate measures for families in the context of harmonization of work and family life. In addition to the comparison between these two systems of family policy the thesis also provides suggestions for improvement using the Norwegian model.

Streszczenie:
CHDS State/Local
The U.S. government has recently contended that communities cannot be prepared without first ensuring the safety of responders and their families. Organizations have generally done little to nothing to ensure that the families of their responders are adequately prepared to survive and function on their own in the absence of the responder. Consequently, there exists a widespread policy gap concerning family preparedness in the first-responder community. Research indicates that much of the U.S. population has ignored the U.S. governments preparedness message and opted not to prepare. This thesis used a selection research method to explore whether the development and execution of a family preparedness program would assist the Delaware State Police (DSP) in maintaining its capability during a major crisis. Good ideas and precedent for creating such policy were captured from existing literature, leading to the conclusion that the DSP should mandate a comprehensive family preparedness program that includes emergency records management, the development of family liaison troopers, and go-kits for families as issued equipment. The thesis further concludes that responder family preparedness is different from general citizen preparedness and that leaving it in the optional category is insufficient.

In Germany and Norway, there have been vivid discussions about precarious working conditions and challenges to balance work- and private life of Early Career Researchers (ECRs). The focus of this article are ECRs in Germany and Norway. ECRs are here defined as PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. PhD students in Norway are to a higher degree scholarship holders and at the same time employed at higher education institutions than their German counterparts. Germany and Norway differ in their historical approaches facilitating gender equality, even though gender policies are converging in both countries. Drawing on data from the German Science Survey 2019, Time-use survey of Norwegian academic staff at higher education institutions and data from the register of research personal in Norway, we explore time allocation for academic activities among ECRs in Norway and Germany considering different context variables (gender, family model, discipline, doctoral training model) providing implications for further research.

This paper describes a project aimed at creating a new resource family of multilingual and multimodal resources centered around the concept of “Linguistics of self”, that is personal re-flections on the role of languages in shaping one’s identity. Language portrait silhouettes, drawing bilingualism, and linguistic autobiographies are different types of resources that share this common feature. We describe the resources and the criteria for their metadata annotation, focusing in particular on linguistic autobiographies, where the writer explicitly reflects on the relationship between him/herself and language. These genres are fruitfully used in different educational settings, and research has shown that they help to uncover the social, affective, and psychological dimensions of language learning. The potential of a multilingual and mul-timodal collection is discussed starting from data collected in Italy and Norway.

Streszczenie:
ARBOTOM® 3-D tree tomograph is a non-destructive decay-sensing instrument based on measurements in standing trees. The accuracy of ARBOTOM® 3-D tree tomograph in detecting decay was evaluated for 703 standing trees in 27 Norway spruce (Picea abies) stands. Trees were measured at three different heights, 0 m, 1 m, and 2 m above the ground. Sections were later inspected for the presence of decay by increment borings and wood croscuts. A system of stochastic differential equations and multivariate normal copula density function were used to develop decay detecting rule. In the present study, the Vasicek stochastic process was employed to analyze propagation velocity data of the stress wave that diffuses through the wood of damaged and healthy tree stems in standing trees. Ornstein–Uhlenbeck family stochastic processes offer a possibility of capturing important distributional differences between damaged and healthy trees stress wave velocity datasets and make the model flexible to internal decay of a tree stem. The study reveals that the Vasicek type stochastic process is a possible candidate for statistical classification of waveforms. After the conditional probability density functions to ratio of difference maximal and minimal propagation velocities to minimal and maximal propagation velocity were established, a bivariate normal copula distribution model was constructed. The results are implemented in the symbolic computational language MAPLE.

The propositus, a 2 1/2 year old boy, was found to have splenomegalia at a routine control, but was otherwise in good health. He had in his neonatal period had osteomyelitis in his left leg, compl. with sepsis and shock. His mother had had DVT in her left leg extending to the iliac vein in the puerp. Investigation of the boy and his mother showed a decrease of plasma plasminogen to about 50% of the normal both when assayed immunochem. and amidolyt. using the chrom. subst. S-2251 after activ. with SK. The same was found when using UK as the plasminogen activ. Investigation of 23 other members of the family showed another 11 members with the same defect but none of them had had DVT. The defect was inherited in an autosomally dominant way. Plasminogen was purified from plasma withdrawn from the mother of the propositus on a lysine Sepharose column. A normal aff. to lysine was noticed but the yield was low (43 mg/l plasma). The purified plasminogen showed the same spec, activ. as normal plasminogen purified in the same way (8.4 CTA u/mg and 8.7 CTA u/mg resp.). SDS-PAGE and crossed immunoelectrophoresis in tandem with the patient’s plasminogen and normal purified plasminogen revealed no difference between the two plasminogens. Furthermore, the same kinetic constants for the activ. by UK were found for both plasminogens. It is concluded that the plasminogen found in this family with a low incidence of DVT seemed to be normal. The reduced plasma concentration may be the result of a decreased synthesis of a normal protein.

Biological and immunological assays of AT III were performed on 12 members of the family and showed a low AT III activity in the propositus and other members of this family (mean 50%), but normal immunologic levels. Crossed immunoelectrophoresis in absence of heparin showed a normal pattern, but in presence of heparin showed an abnormal peak as compared with controls. Kinetics experiments showed a normal inhibition of Xa and 11a in absence of heparin, but abnormal in presence of heparin. An affinity chromatography on heparin Sepharose revealed two populations of AT III, one of which was devoid of heparin cofactor activity. The toponym AT III Geneva is proposed for this new familial abnormal AT III with defective heparin cofactor activity. This family confirms the low incidence of thromboembolic events reported in this type of AT III variant.

Streszczenie:
Congenital protein C (PC) deficiency is associated with thrombophilia. Heterozygotes with about half-normal plasma PC levels may present with venous thromboembolic events usually beginning during adolescence or young adulthood. A 26-year-old swiss woman had experienced an iliofemoral deep-vein thrombosis without obvious etiology six years.ago. In June, 1986 very low levels of PC antigen (25 %) and activity (27 %) were found when she was six-month pregnant. Three other family members (62, 24 and 19-year-old) had PC levels around 50 % but were symptomfree. Because of the post-thrombotic~syndrome and the pregnancy, ambulatory heparin therapy was immediately started in the patient (10-16'000 IU twice daily, s.c.) in order to maintain a plasma heparin level between 0.2 and 0.5 U/ml six hs after the morning injection. Delivery was induced at full-term whilst heparin was stopped for a few hours. Four weeks after delivery anticoagulation was discontinued and, so far, the patient remained symptomfree. The newborn showed no perinatal problem and the PC antigen level assayed in the umbilical venous blood was 22 % (normal range in the literature 18-46 %). Antithrombin III and protein S levels as well as fibtinolytic potential were within normal values in all family members.Conclusions. 1) Only one out of four heterozygote PC deficient family members had presented with venous thromboembolism. 2) The symptomatic subject had the lowest PC level in the family (activity and antigen around 25 %). 3) This woman experienced an event-free pregnancy and delivery although heparin was started only in the sixth month of pregnancy. 4) Thus, penetrance of the thrombotic trait may be quite variable (and low) amongst PC deficient heterozygotes, an observation which raises the question of the indication of long-term anticoagulation in these individuals. 5) Pregnancy did not affect the PC antigen and activity levels in our patient.

Streszczenie:
In our normal material of 379 blood donors,3 indivi-uals had values below mean −2.5 SD (below 56%).Further studies revealed hereditary deficiency in two of these individuals. In the family study,5 out of 7 individuals had heparin cofactor II (HC II) values below 56%. In only one of these 5 a history of DVT was obtained. In deceased members of her family, however, frequent episodes of thromboembolic disease had occurred.Crossed immunoelectrophoresis (CIE) was performed in plasma from deficiency individuals from both families. Heparin in the first dimension gave a pattern similar to that observed with normal pooled plasma. The inactivation of thrombin by HC II is preferentially accelerated by dermatan sulfate (DS).HC II consumption in in vitro coagulation is increased by DS rather than by heparin. This prompted the addition ofTBS to the first dimension, which makes the antigen move faster, but produced no alteration in the antigenic pattern or size, neither in pooled plasma nor in a family member with normal activity. In family members with low HC II activity, DS in the first dimension, resulted in an abnormal CIE pattern with two distinct precipitation arcs with identity pattern. Molecular heterogeneity of HC II has previously not been reported.Screening 70 individuals who had sustained thrombosis before the age of 50,no values suggesting congenital deficiency were encountered.Conclusion. The CIE findings suggest that plasma of affected family members contain two types of HC II molecules of immunological identity. One type shows the normal accelerated mobility in the presence of DS and the other lacks this effect. The abnormal electrophoretic pattern becomes, however, first apparent when DS is added to the first dimension. When looking for molecular defects in congenital HC II deficiency, it is important that the first dimension is run with DS.

Streszczenie:
The memoirs of (post-) punk musician Viv Albertine address the issue of choice or lack thereof in romantic and family relationships. They depict a world in which choice of romantic partners appears normal if often unsuccessful, whereas choice within family relationships is restricted. It is self-evident that one cannot choose one’s blood relatives. However, amplified by Albertine’s scepticism towards any social relationships, her two memoirs represent ‘negative choice’ (Eva Illouz) in heterosexual romantic relationships and the complex ways in which negative choice can change family dynamics. In her memoirs, Albertine presents loneliness as the opposite of love which aligns with her model of choice, as it is preferable to live a lonely life over being bound up in love relationships, romantic or familial, which are harmful to one’s wellbeing. This article demonstrates how the ethos of early punk is translated into an uncompromising process of life writing which presents itself as faithfulness towards the individual’s core need for self-realisation and self-expression against the backdrop of failing romantic and familial relationships, severe physical and mental health problems, a self-diagnosis of autism and a patriarchal society.

Streszczenie:
Fifty six diverse spring wheat cultivars were evaluated for genetic variation and heritability for thermotolerance in terms of cell-membrane stability (CMS) and triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) reduction. The most divergent cultivars for thermotolerance (Danbata-tolerant and Nacozari-susceptible) were crossed to develop an F8 random onbred line (RIL) population. This population was evaluated for co-segragation in CMS, yield under heat stress and HSP accumulation. Further studies of thermotolerance in relations to HSP and the expression of heterosis for growth under heat stress were performed with F1 hybrids of wheat and their parental cultivars. CMS in 95 RILs ranged from 76.5% to 22.4% with 71.5% and 31.3% in Danbata and Nacozari, respectively. The population segregated with a normal distribution across the full range of the parental values. Yield and biomass under non-stress conditions during the normal winter season at Bet Dagan dit not differ between the two parental cultivar, but the range of segregation for these traits in 138 RILs was very high and distinctly transgressive with a CV of 35.3% and 42.4% among lines for biomass and yield, respectively. Mean biomass and yield of the population was reduced about twofold when grown under the hot summer conditions (irrigated) at Bet Dagan. Segregation for biomass and yield was decreased relative to the normal winter conditions with CV of 20.2% and 23.3% among lines for biomass and yield, respectively. However, contrary to non-stress conditions, the parental cultivars differed about twofold in biomass and yield under heat stress and the population segregated with normal distribution across the full range of this difference. CMS was highly and positively correlated across 79 RILs with biomass (r=0.62**) and yield (r=0.58**) under heat stress. No such correlation was obtained under the normal winter conditions. All RILs expressed a set of HSPs under heat shock (37oC for 2 h). No variation was detected among RILs in high molecular weight HSP isoforms and they were similar to the patterns of the parental cultivars. There was a surprisingly low variability in low molecular weight HSP isoforms. Only one low molecular weight and Nacozari-specific HSP isoform (belonging to HSP 16.9 family) appeared to segregate among all RILs, but it was not quantitatively correlated with any parameter of plant production under heat stress or with CMS in this population. It is concluded that this Danbata/Nacozari F8 RIL population co-segregated well for thermotolerance and yield under heat stress and that CMS could predict the relative productivity of lines under chronic heat stress. Regretfully this population did not express meaningful variability for HSP accumulation under heat shock and therefore no role could be seen for HSP in the heat tolerance of this population. In the study of seven F1 hybrids and their parent cultivars it was found that heterosis (superiority of the F1 over the best parent) for CMs was generally lower than that for growth under heat stress. Hybrids varied in the rate of heterosis for growth at normal (15o/25o) and at high (25o/35o) temperatures. In certain hybrids heterosis for growth significantly increased at high temperature as compared with normal temperature, suggesting temperature-dependent heterosis. Generally, under normal temperature, only limited qualitative variation was detected in the patterns of protein synthesis in four wheat hybrids and their parents. However, a singular protein (C47/5.88) was specifically expressed only in the most heterotic hybrid at normal temperature but not in its parent cultivars. Parental cultivars were significantly different in the sets of synthesized HSP at 37o. No qualitative changes in the patterns of protein expression under heat stress were correlated with heterosis. However, a quantitative increase in certain low molecular weight HSP (mainly H14/5.5 and H14.5.6, belonging to the HSP16.9 family) was positively associated with greater heterosis for growth at high temperature. None of these proteins were correlated with CMS across hybrids. These results support the concept of temperature-dependent heterosis for growth and a possible role for HSP 16.9 family in this respect. Finally, when all experiments are viewed together, it is encouraging to find that genetic variation in wheat yield under chronic heat stress is associated with and well predicted by CMS as an assay of thermotolerance. On the other hand the results for HSP are elusive. While very low genetic variation was expressed for HSP in the RIL population, a unique low molecular weight HSP (of the HSP 16.9 family) could be associated with temperature dependant heterosis for growth.
