Streszczenie:
Thermal preconditioning is a process in which coal/water mixtures are vaporized to produce coal/steam suspensions, and then superheated to allow the coal to devolatilize producing suspensions of char particles in hydrocarbon gases and steam. This final product of the process can be injected without atomization, and burned directly in a gas turbine combustor. This paper reports on the results of an experimental program in which thermally preconditioned coal/water mixture was successfully burned with a stable flame in a gas turbine combustor test rig. Tests were performed at a mixture flowrate of 300 lb/hr and combustor pressure of 8 atm. The coal/water mixture was thermally preconditioned and injected into the combustor over a temperature range from 350°F to 600°F, and combustion air was supplied at between 600°F to 725°F. Test durations varied between 10 and 20 min. Major results of the combustion testing were that: A stable flame was maintained over a wide equivalence ratio range, between φ = 2.2 (rich) and 0.2 (lean); and combustion efficiency of over 99 percent was achieved when the mixture was preconditioned to 600°F and the combustion air preheated to 725°F. Measurements of ash particulates, captured in the exhaust sampling probe located 20 in. from the injector face, show typical sizes collected to be about 1 μm, with agglomerates of these particulates to be not more than 8 μm. The original mean coal particle size for these tests, prior to preconditioning, was 25 μm. Results of additional tests showed that one third of the sulfur contained in the solids of a coal/water mixture with 3 percent sulfur was evolved in gaseous form (under mild thermolized conditions) mainly as H2S with the remainder as light mercaptans.

Spherical carbon nanoparticles were synthesized by sol-gel polymerization of resorcinol and formaldehyde in the presence of CTAB(cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) and subsequent carbonization at 900°C. It is found that the amount of CTAB, water and catalyst showed a significant impact on the morphology and size of carbon nanoparticles. According to the BET surface area and capacitance, the nanoparticles were divided into two groups. The carbon nanoparticles with surface area of 725-758 m2/g showed capacitance between 120-140 F/g, while those with surface area of 596-649 m2/g showed capacitance only 60-80 F/g. Difference in the pore size of 1.5 nm to 3.0 nm probably contributed to the difference of capacitance.

Native phytochrome (124 kdalton) was isolated from etiolated seedlings of Avena sativa L. cv. Pirol (Baywa, Munich). From low temperature spectra (0°C to - 165 °C) of phytochrome samples irradiated either with red or far-red light, spectra of intermediates were calculated. Both absorption bands of the phytochrome chromophore were reported. On the pathway Pr → Pfr, native phytochrome does not form a bleached intermediate (meta-Rb) in contrast to degraded phytochrome. An additional intermediate, meta-Rc (λmax = 725 nm), is formed instead. On the reverse pathway only two intermediates were found, lumi-F and meta-F. Oscillator strengths′ values were calculated and interpreted in terms of chromophore conformation. A scheme of intermediates for native phytochrome is presented.

AbstractWe are interested in entire solutions for the semilinear biharmonic equation Δ2u = f(u) in ℝN, where f(u) = eu or –u–p (p > 0). For the exponential case, we prove that for the polyharmonic problem Δ2mu = eu with positive integer m, any classical entire solution verifies Δ2m–1u < 0; this completes the results of Dupaigne et al. (Arch. Ration. Mech. Analysis208 (2013), 725–752) and Wei and Xu (Math. Annalen313 (1999), 207–228). We also obtain a refined asymptotic expansion of the radial separatrix solution to Δ2u = eu in ℝ3, which answers a question posed by Berchio et al. (J. Diff. Eqns252 (2012), 2569–2616). For the negative power case, we show the non-existence of the classical entire solution for any 0 < p ⩽ 1.

The recently discovered, chlorophyll-f-containing, far-red photosystem II (FR-PSII) supports far-red light photosynthesis. Participation and kinetics of spectrally shifted far-red pigments are directly observable and separated from that of bulk chlorophyll-a. We present an ultrafast transient absorption study of FR-PSII, investigating energy transfer and charge separation processes. Results show a rapid subpicosecond energy transfer from chlorophyll-a to the long-wavelength chlorophylls-f/d. The data demonstrate the decay of an ∼720-nm negative feature on the picosecond-to-nanosecond timescales, coinciding with charge separation, secondary electron transfer, and stimulated emission decay. An ∼675-nm bleach attributed to the loss of chl-a absorption due to the formation of a cation radical, PD1+•, is only fully developed in the nanosecond spectra, indicating an unusually delayed formation. A major spectral feature on the nanosecond timescale at 725 nm is attributed to an electrochromic blue shift of a FR-chlorophyll among the reaction center pigments. These time-resolved observations provide direct experimental support for the model of Nürnberg et al. [D. J. Nürnberg et al., Science 360, 1210–1213 (2018)], in which the primary electron donor is a FR-chlorophyll and the secondary donor is chlorophyll-a (PD1 of the central chlorophyll pair). Efficient charge separation also occurs using selective excitation of long-wavelength chlorophylls-f/d, and the localization of the excited state on P720* points to a smaller (entropic) energy loss compared to conventional PSII, where the excited state is shared over all of the chlorin pigments. This has important repercussions on understanding the overall energetics of excitation energy transfer and charge separation reactions in FR-PSII.

In order to realize alternative fueling for military and commercial use, industry guidelines be met. These aviation fueling requirements are outlined in MIL-DTL-83133F(2008) or ASTM D 7566-Annex standards and are classified as “drop-in” fuel replacements. This paper provides combustor performance data for synthetic-paraffinic-kerosene- (SPK-) type (Fisher-Tropsch (FT)) fuel and blends with JP8+100, relative to JP-8+100 as baseline fueling. Data were taken at various nominal inlet conditions: 75psia (0.52 MPa) at 500°F (533 K), 125 psia (0.86 MPa) at 625°F (603 K), 175 psia (1.21 MPa) at 725°F (658 K), and 225 psia (1.55 MPa) at 790 F (694 K). Combustor performance analysis assessments were made for the change in flame temperatures, combustor efficiency, wall temperatures, and exhaust plane temperatures at 3%, 4%, and 5% combustor pressure drop (%P) for fuel:air ratios (F/A) ranging from 0.010 to 0.025. Significant general trends show lower liner temperatures and higher flame and combustor outlet temperatures with increases in FT fueling relative to JP8+100 fueling. The latter affects both turbine efficiency and blade/vane life. In general, 100% SPK-FT fuel and blends with JP-8+100 produce less particulates and less smoke and have lower thermal impact on combustor hardware.

The surface of hot rolled ribbed steel bar after remained-heat-treatment process readily corrodes and rusts on store and transportation process due to falling off of the surface of its oxide layer in the steel production. By studying different cooling intensity having what effect on rebar structure, mechanical property and the thickness and component of surface oxide layer, this paper analyses the influence factor of strengthening mechanism and anti-corrosion on the surface oxide layer of hot rolled ribbed steel bars (HRB). The result indicates that there is a certain extent improvement on the bar’s yield strength and strength of extension after remained heat treatment, and that this change in large size bar is more distinct than which in small size’s. The most distinct strengthening effect happens in a temperature on cooling table about 720°C. Above 820°C —the temperature on cooling table, all metallographic structure consist of ferrite and pearlite (F+P); under 725°C, the sclerotic structure like bainite appears. With the temperature on cooling table arising, surface oxide layer thickens. In low temperature on cooling table, the sample integrates with matrix comparatively closely and has relatively better anti-corrode property.

Summary:Protein (P), fat (F), and carbohydrate (C) concentration in expressed human bank milk was determined by infrared analysis of 2,554 samples from 224 mothers. The mean contents of P, F, C, and energy (E, calculated from P, F, and C) were 9.0 g/L, 39.0 g/L, 71.9 g/L, and 696 kcal/L, respectively. There was a large variation in the concentration of energy‐yielding macronutrients. The contents of P. F, C, and E in the samples with the highest values (97.5 percentile) were 2.3‐, 4.8‐, 1.2‐, and 2.3‐fold, respectively, above the contents in the samples with the lowest values (2.5 percentile). The P content decreased exponentially during the 1st 8 months, followed by an increase during the following months. The F content decreased during the 1st 4 months, followed by an almost linear increase. The possible influence of different maternal characteristics on the macronutrient content of the milk was examined. The main results were as follows: the P and F contents increased slightly with increasing body mass index of the mother, the P content decreased with increasing amounts of milk delivered to the milk bank, and the F content was higher in mothers delivering large amounts of milk. By selecting incoming milk with a high P content, we have developed a “high‐protein” milk with a P content of about 12 g/L (true protein) and an E content of about 725 kcal/L. Thus, by continuous monitoring of macronutrient content in human bank milk it is possible to develop a “high‐protein” milk with sufficient P and E content to cover the needs of preterm infants with very low birth weights (< 1,500 g).

We prove a functional equation for the characteristic ideal of the "big" Selmer group 𝒳(𝒯ℱ/F cyc ) associated to an ordinary Hida family of elliptic modular forms over the cyclotomic ℤp extension of a general number field F, under the assumption that there is at least one arithmetic specialization whose Selmer group is torsion over its Iwasawa algebra. For a general number field, the two-variable cyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture for ordinary Hida family is not proved and this can be thought of as an evidence to the validity of the Iwasawa main conjecture. The central idea of the proof is to prove a variant of the result of Perrin-Riou [Groupes de Selmer et accouplements; cas particulier des courbes elliptiques, Doc. Abstract Alteration of estuarine shorelines associated with increased urbanization can significantly impact biota and food webs. This study determined the impact of shoreline alteration on growth and movement of the estuarine fish Fundulus heteroclitus in a tributary of the Delaware Coastal Bays. Fundulus heteroclitus is abundant along the east coast of the USA, and is an important trophic link between marsh and subtidal estuary. The restricted home range of F. heteroclitus allowed discrete sampling, and fish growth comparisons, along 35–65-m long stretches of fringing Spartina alterniflora and Phragmites australis marsh, riprap, and bulkhead. Fundulus heteroclitus were tagged with decimal Coded Wire Tags. Of 725 tagged F. heteroclitus, 89 were recaptured 30–63 days later. Mean growth rate (0.06–0.15 mm day−1 across all shoreline types) was greatest at riprap, lowest at Spartina and Phragmites, and intermediate at bulkhead, where growth was not significantly different from any other shoreline. This suggests that discernible environments exist along different shoreline types, even at the scale of tens of meters. No difference in movement distance was detected at different shoreline types; most individuals displayed a high degree of site fidelity. Forty-seven percent were recaptured within 5 m of their tagging location, although alongshore movements up to 475 m were recorded. Estimates of relative F. heteroclitus productivity, using relative density data from a concurrent study, were highest along Spartina and Phragmites, intermediate at riprap, and lowest at bulkhead. Therefore, despite greater growth rates along riprap than at vegetated shores, armoring reduces abundance sufficiently to negatively impact localized productivity of F. heteroclitus.

The signification of the correction factor β that we defined for elastic material [J.M. Meza et al. J. Mater. Res.23(3), 725, (2008)] does not correspond to that of factor β in the Sneddon relationship between unloading contact stiffness, elastic modulus, and contact area as remarked by Durst et al. in their Comment (doi:10.1557/jmr.2012.41). To complete the results of Durst et al., the calculation of β is extended to a larger penetration depth range. It is shown that β depends on the depth to tip radius ratio, h/R, and on the Poisson’s ratio according to dimensionless analysis. The variation range of β is about 1.02–1.09 for 0.3 < h/R < 3 for purely elastic materials but can be much larger in case of elastic–plastic materials as shown [F. Abbes et al. J. Micromech. Microeng.20, 65003 (2010)].

First published October 19, 2016; doi:10.1152/ajprenal.00386.2016. Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) inevitably progresses to end-stage kidney disease, requiring dialysis or transplantation for survival. However, treatment modalities and drug discovery remain limited. Mutations in over 30 genes have been discovered as monogenic causes of SRNS. Most of these genes are predominantly expressed in the glomerular epithelial cell, the podocyte, placing it at the center of the pathogenesis of SRNS. Podocyte migration rate (PMR) represents a relevant intermediate phenotype of disease in monogenic causes of SRNS. We therefore adapted PMR in a high-throughput manner to screen small molecules as potential therapeutic targets for SRNS. We performed a high-throughput drug screening of a National Institutes of Health Clinical Collection (NCC) library ( n = 725 compounds) measuring PMR by videomicroscopy. We used the Woundmaker to perform individual 96-well scratch wounds and screened compounds using a quantitative kinetic live cell imaging migration assay using IncuCyte ZOOM technology. Using a normal distribution for the average PMR in wild-type podocytes with a vehicle control (DMSO), we applied a 90% confidence interval to define “distinct” compounds (5% faster/slower PMR) and found that 12 of 725 compounds (at 10 μM) reduced PMR. Clusters of drugs that alter PMR included actin/tubulin modulators such as the azole class of antifungals and antineoplastic vinca-alkaloids. We hereby identify compounds that alter PMR. The PMR assay provides a new avenue to test therapeutics for nephrotic syndrome. Positive results may reveal novel pathways in the study of glomerular diseases such as SRNS.

This paper reports on the results concerning optical absorption and luminescence properties of 25Gd2O3-10CaO-10SiO2-(55-x) B2O3-xPr2O3 (where x is 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 mol %) have been synthesized by melting and quenching process. The locations of the absorption peak observed are investigated for the first time. It is shown that the f-f transitions in the studied glasses are allowed by distortions of Pr3+ ions. Seven absorption bands corresponding to the 3H4 → 3P2, 1I6+3P1, 1D2, 1G4, 3F4, 3F3 and 3F2, respectively absorption bands peaked at 459,483,575,1011,1418,1513 and 1931 nm. The luminescence intensity of Pr3+ doped glass under excited at 459 and 483 nm, the emission band under excited at 459 nm wavelengths emission centered at 542 nm (3P0→3H5), 602 nm (1D2→3H4), 646 nm (3P0→3F2) and 689 nm (1D2→3H5) .The emission bands with 483 nm excitation wavelength, the emission band centered at 532 nm (3P1→3H5), 602 nm (1D2→3H4), 646 nm (3P0→3F2) and 725 nm (3P0→3F4), respectively. The present paper brings out the results pertaining to the studies carried out on different structural and optical absorption in UV-VIS-NIR region are also measured and discussed in term of energy levels, energy band gap and emission spectra of Pr3+ ions doped in Gd2O3-CaO-SiO2-B2O3 glasses.

AbstractIntroductionStudies have investigated the prevalence of compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue in various healthcare professions. However, the majority of evidence is linked to the nursing profession and little is known about paramedical professions such as radiography and even less is known about its prevalence in students. The purpose of this study was to describe the levels of compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue in the student population and how they varied in time.MethodsStudents undertaking radiotherapy training at the researcher’s host sites were surveyed using the Professional Quality of Life questionnaire at the end of each final clinical block in each year of their training. Results and conclusionDuring the 3 years of training compassion satisfaction falls and burnout increases in the student population, although the change is not significant. Secondary traumatic stress increases significantly during the 3 years of training, F=5·725, p=0·005. Considerable variation also exists in the three scores dependent on the student’s clinical training site. Relationships are also observed between some personality traits, particularly conscientiousness and neuroticism and compassion scores.

We investigated the relationship between opening of the permeability transition pore (PTP), mitochondrial depolarization, cytochromecrelease, and occurrence of cell death in rat hepatoma MH1C1 cells. Treatment with arachidonic acid orA23187induces PTP openingin situwith similar kinetics, as assessed by the calcein loading-Co2+quenching technique (Petronilli, V., Miotto, G., Canton, M., Colonna, R., Bernardi, P., and Di Lisa, F. (1999)Biophys. J.76, 725–734). Yet depolarization, as assessed from the changes of mitochondrial tetramethylrhodamine methyl ester (TMRM) fluorescence, is rapid and extensive with arachidonic acid and slow and partial withA23187. Cyclosporin A-inhibitable release of cytochromecand cell death correlate with the changes of TMRM fluorescence but not with those of calcein fluorescence. Since pore opening must be accompanied by depolarization, we conclude that short PTP openings are detected only by trapped calcein and may have little impact on cell viability, while changes of TMRM distribution require longer PTP openings, which cause release of cytochromecand may result in cell death. Modulation of the open time appears to be the key element in determining the outcome of stimuli that converge on the PTP.

Abstract Background Ritonavir boosted protease inhibitors have been associated with GI intolerance. A post hoc analysis was conducted to assess the GI profile of D/C/F/TAF in treatment naïve patients. Methods The phase 3 AMBER trial (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT02431247) enrolled treatment naïve patients randomized 1:1 to receive once daily D/C/F/TAF 800/150/200/10 mg or D/C + F/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). This post hoc analysis evaluated the incidence, prevalence and duration of GI adverse events of interest (AEOIs) through Wk 96. Related GI AEOIs were defined as diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and flatulence (by preferred term using MedDRAv21) deemed very likely, probable, or possibly related to study drug by the investigator. Incidence and prevalence were examined at weekly intervals during the first month of treatment and monthly thereafter. Duration of an AE was calculated for patients whose AEs had start and stop dates. Results In AMBER (N = 725), 362 patients were randomized to D/C/F/TAF and 363 to D/C + F/TDF (Table). Through Wk 48, 14% of D/C/F/TAF patients had a study drug–related GI AEOI vs 19% of D/C + F/TDF patients; of these, all were grade 1/2 and none were serious. Incidence and prevalence of D/C/F/TAF-related GI AEOIs remained low through 96 wks (Figure 1 & 2). Incidence of D/C/F/TAF-related diarrhea and nausea were each 5% in Wk 1 and ≤1% after Wk 2; prevalence of each decreased to < 5% at Wk 2. There was 1 case of D/C/F/TAF-related abdominal discomfort at Wk 1 and none thereafter. Incidence of D/C/F/TAF-related flatulence was < 1% from Wk 1 through Wk 96. Only 2 (1%) patients discontinued before Wk 96 due to a D/C/F/TAF-related GI AEOI (both diarrhea). Through Wk 96, < 3% of patients required treatment with concomitant medication for a D/C/F/TAF-related GI AEOI. Among patients with a D/C/F/TAF-related GI AEOI, the median duration was 16.5 days. Conclusion In AMBER, incidences and prevalences of D/C/F/TAF-related GI AEOIs were low and tended to present early in the study. Combined with rapid decreases in prevalence, these finding suggest that GI AEOIs were transient. Overall, the GI profile of D/C/F/TAF was favorable, and to a greater extent than D/C + F/TDF, suggesting improved tolerance vs an older formulation. Table. Abstract BACKGROUND: Coagulation factor XIII deficiency, in either its acquired or inherited form, is a rare cause of abnormal bleeding. In patients with Factor XIII (F XIII) deficiency, recommended means of factor replacement include infusion of fresh frozen plasma (FFP), cryoprecipitated plasma (Cryo), or F XIII concentrates1. Comparisons of F XIII concentration in FFP and Cryo are not well defined. To aid management of F XIII deficiency, we measured F XIII activity and antigen in FFP and Cryo. In addition, we determined concentrations of fibrinogen, factor VIII (F VIII) and von Willebrand factor (VWF), including antigen (VWF:Ag), ristocetin cofactor activity (VWF:RCo) and collagen binding activity (VWF:CB). STUDY DESIGNS AND METHODS: 10 bags each of FFP and of Cryo from blood group O donors obtained from the Mayo Clinic Division of Transfusion Medicine blood bank, were analyzed. F XIII activity was assayed by ELISA detecting activated F XIII-mediated amine incorporation into solid phase fibrinogen (Pefakit, Pentapharm). F XIII antigen was measured using radial immunodiffusion (The Binding Site). Fibrinogen was measured by Clauss kinetic clotting assay (Fibriquik, Biomerieux) and also by endpoint delta OD derived from the prothrombin time (ACL, Instrumentation Lab). F VIII was measured by 1-stage APTT-based assay; VWF:Ag by automated LIA (Diagnostica Stago); VWF:RCo by aggregometry of washed platelets; and VWF:CB by ELISA (Corgenix). RESULTS: Mean concentrations of F XIII activity were 60 U/bag (+/−30) in Cryo and 288 U/bag (+/− 77) in FFP. F XIII antigen concentrations paralleled the activity results and are depicted in Table 1, which also includes results for the other analytes. The mean fluid volumes of Cryo and FFP were 21.3 ml/bag (+/− 2.7) and 245 mL/bag (+/− 29), respectively. Table 1. Comparison of Hemostatic Components in Cryoprecipitated Plasma (Cryo) versus Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) Cryoprecipitate Fresh Frozen Plasma Component Mean (SD) Mean (SD) Factor XIII activity 60 U/bag (+/− 30) 288 U/bag (+/− 77) Factor XIII antigen 0.65 mg/bag (+/− 0.23) 2.36 mg/bag (+/− 0.76) Factor VIII 133 U/bag (+/− 36.5) 265 U/bag (+/− 83) Fibrinogen Clauss 184 mg/dl (+/− 44) 725 mg/dl (+/− 199) Fibrinogen ACL 319 mg/dl (+/− 76) 864 mg/dl (+/− 327) VWF:Ag 181 U/bag (+/− 53) 218 U/bag (+/− 70) VWF:RCo 168 U/bag (+/− 34) 221 U/bag (+/− 65) VWF:CB 165 U/bag (+/− 40) 208 U/bag (+/− 71) Bag volume 21.3 ml/bag (+/− 2.7) 245 ml/bag (+/− 29) CONCLUSION: In contrast to some of the other cryoprecipitable coagulation proteins, F XIII is only mildly enriched in Cryo when compared with FFP (about 2- to 3-fold). Although both products are practical means of F XIII replacement, and F XIII is somewhat enriched in Cryo, FFP may be a preferred product for F XIII replacement when infusion volume is not a major consideration (eg, in adults versus small children) and risks of exposure to multiple donors are considered. While Cryo is no longer recommended as the product of choice for VWF (or F VIII) replacement, our studies also demonstrate that Cryo is significantly enriched in VWF (which is not routinely assayed as a quality control measure for Cryo, in contrast to requirements for F VIII and fibrinogen content).

Stem rust (caused by Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici), leaf rust (P. triticina), and stripe rust (P. striiformis f. sp. tritici) rank among the most important diseases of wheat worldwide. The development of resistant cultivars is the preferred method of controlling rust diseases because it is environmentally benign and also cost effective. However, new virulence types often arise in pathogen populations, rendering such cultivars vulnerable to losses. The identification of new sources of resistance is key to providing long-lasting disease control against the rapidly evolving rust pathogens. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate the wild wheat relative Aegilops longissima for resistance to stem rust, leaf rust, and stripe rust at the seedling stage in the greenhouse. A diverse collection of 394 accessions of the species, mostly from Israel, was assembled for the study, but the total number included in any one rust evaluation ranged from 308 to 379. With respect to stem rust resistance, 18.2 and 80.8% of accessions were resistant to the widely virulent U.S. and Kenyan P. graminis f. sp. tritici races of TTTTF and TTKSK, respectively. The percentage of accessions exhibiting resistance to the U.S. P. triticina races of THBJ and BBBD was 65.9 and 52.2%, respectively. Over half (50.1%) of the Ae. longissima accessions were resistant to the U.S. P. striiformis f. sp. tritici race PSTv-37. Ten accessions (AEG-683-23, AEG-725-15, AEG-803-49, AEG-1274-20, AEG-1276-22, AEG-1471-15, AEG-1475-19, AEG-2974-0, AEG-4005-20, and AEG-8705-10) were resistant to all races of the three rust pathogens used in this study. Distinct differences in the geographic distribution of resistance and susceptibility were found in Ae. longissima accessions from Israel in response to some rust races. To P. graminis f. sp. tritici race TTKSK, populations with a very high frequency of resistance were concentrated in the central and northern part of Israel, whereas populations with a comparatively higher frequency of susceptibility were concentrated in the southern part of the country. The reverse trend was observed with respect to P. striiformis f. sp. tritici race PSTv-37. The results from this study demonstrate that Ae. longissima is a rich source of rust resistance genes for wheat improvement.

Summary Polymeric gels are used to reduce or shut off excess water in petroleum reservoirs. The strength of polymeric gels needs to be high enough to withstand the water flow. This study investigates the strength of an organically crosslinked polyacrylamide (PAM) with polyethylenimine (PEI) as crosslinker. Dynamic testing measurements at high temperatures up to 130°C (266°F) and high pressure (500 psi) were used. During the gelation process, the rate of crosslinking increases with increased temperature. However, after the crosslinking reactions were completed, G′ was lower at higher temperatures than at lower temperatures. Polymer concentration has a stronger impact on G′ in comparison with the crosslinker. Salinity of mixing water has a negative impact on G′. High G′ was observed in distilled water (1044 Pa) in comparison with field water (725 Pa) at 130°C (266°F). Moreover, samples prepared at alkaline and acidic conditions produced stronger gels compared with samples prepared at neutral conditions. However, the gelation time is longer at a pH of 7. Ammonium chloride is found to be a very effective retarder in comparison with NaCl. The yield stress of the gel was correlated to the pressure gradient for the gel extrusion through fractures. It was found that gels with 7:0.3 and 5:0.3 wt% PAM/PEI gave pressure gradients of 155.5 kPa/m (55.2 psi/m) and 3572 kPa/m (518 psi/m), respectively. The decrease or increase in gel strength was explained through the impact of the different parameters on PAM hydrolysis.

633 Background: We previously reported that the Fc-gamma receptor (FCGR) germline polymorphism in the FCGR2A gene (rs1801274; His (H) to Arg (R) substitution) but not FCGR3A (rs396991; Phe (F) to Val (V)) was associated with cetuximab benefit on overall survival (OS) in metastatic colorectal cancer patients (CCTG CO.17 trial). We performed a validation of these results in CO.20, a randomized trial of cetuximab+placebo vs. cetuximab+brivanib for metastatic, chemotherapy refractory, wild type K-RAS colorectal cancer. Methods: After genotyping DNA extracted from whole blood, the polymorphism relationships with OS and progression-free survival (PFS) were assessed using log-rank tests and hazard ratios (HR) from Cox proportional hazard models, adjusting for known prognostic factors. Results: Of 592/725 (82%) K-RAS wild type patients with available DNA and genotyping, those carrying the higher affinity FCGR2A H/H genotype (N = 165; 28%) had improved OS (HR 0.53; 95%CI:0.41-0.68) and PFS (HR 0.65; 95%CI:0.51-0.83) compared to those carrying the lower affinity R/R genotype (N = 128; 22%), corresponding to median absolute benefits of 3.7 (OS) and 3.3 months (PFS). The H/R genotype (N = 299; 50%) had intermediate outcomes. No significant associations were found between FCGR3A genotype and OS or PFS. No interaction between FCGR polymorphisms and treatment arm was observed. Patients carrying the double wild type combination of FCGR2A H/H and FCGR3A F/F genotypes (N = 45; 7.6%) had significantly better outcomes than other patients, particularly those carrying the rare (N = 11; 2%) R/R+ V/V genotype combination, corresponding to median absolute benefits of 12.5 (OS; HR 0.33 95%CI:0.16-0.68) and 4.5 (PFS; HR 0.45 95%CI:0.22-0.92) months. There were no significant associations between FCGR polymorphisms and either any grade of 3/4 toxicity or skin rash. Conclusions: In KRAS-wild type, cetuximab-treated patients, FCGR2A polymorphism was independently replicated to be associated with clinical outcome without affecting toxicity profiles. Additionally, in this large dataset, FCGR3A appears to modulate the relationship between FCGR2A polymorphism and outcome.

Aqueous disodium fluorescein and pentamidine aerosols were dried, concentrated, and condensation coated with paraffin wax. The apparent mass median aerodynamic diameters of the coated fluorescein particles were 2.8–4.0 μm. Wax-to-fluorescein ratios were 0.38–1.05. The dissolution half times determined using a single-pass flow system were 1.5 min for uncoated fluorescein and 0.8 min for uncoated pentamidine. These increased over threefold when the aerosols were coated with paraffin wax to maxima of 5.3 and 2.6 min, respectively. Wax-coated aerosols generated from fluorescein mixed with99mTc-labeled iron oxide colloid delivered to the canine lungs demonstrated a 3.4-fold increase in the absorption half time of disodium fluorescein compared with uncoated fluorescein (11.2 vs. 38.4 min). The absence of changes in pulmonary function on inhalation of these wax-coated aerosols, together with a high drug load and delayed release, establishes a foundation for future therapeutic applications.

Rhododendron groenlandicum (Oeder) Kron and Judd, bog Labrador tea, is an evergreen shrub from the Ericacae family native to North America. Bog Labrador tea is associated with the later stages of forest successions in black spruce forest stands of the boreal ecosystems with cool climates, but responds aggressively to forest openings where it is already present. In general, bog Labrador tea is associated with nutrient-poor, acidic soils, with drainage ranging from moist to wet. Layering is the main regeneration strategy of the species; evidence suggests that this could be especially true following disturbances that open the forest canopy. Sexual reproduction maintains viability in undisturbed communities through wind or water dispersal. Rhododendron groenlandicum acclimates more rapidly relative to black spruce after perturbations through a higher rate of resource utilization when resources are available. The species is a highly competitive shrub for soil nutrients; it competes with regenerating conifers for soil nitrogen and phosphorus. It can also assimilate organic nitrogen from the soil through its mycorhizae. These characteristics may lead to the formation of ericaceous heaths that can stay unforested indefinitely. However, this species can be eradicated by herbicides (glyphosate) and heavy site scarification can limit its propagation.

The new generation of newly developed materials, namely the high-crystallinity and high temperature polypropylene random copolymer, called PP-RCT, increases the crystalline capability of polypropylene, which allows pipes produced from this material to operate at higher pressures at elevated temperatures. Pressure tests on pipes made of PP-RCT materials show a resistance over a period of 50 years at 7000C (1580 F) 5 MPa (725 psi) compared with 3.2 MPa (464 psi) for standard materials PPR. By reinforcing PP-RCT with aluminum, glass and basalt composite results in a more resistant structure. As a result of the traction tests, it was found that in all three samples the tensile strength exceeds the manufacturer s limit (10 - 12.7 MPa), the values obtained being: st1 = 8 MPa - sample no. 1; st2 = 13 MPa - sample no. 2; st1 = 11 MPa - sample no. 3. The fiber glass insert is less resistant, the best variant being the basal insect sample (st2 = 13 MPa). Elongation at break for specimen no. 3 was recorded at 0.027 mm / mm. Tests on these material combinations were performed for stretching and flexing requests and compared to 3D created virtual models. Simulations of internal pressure behavior were also performed for different material configurations and the results were compared with the experimental data and the data supplied by the manufacturers.

Mental health problems are increasingly prevalent in Indonesia, but many people are still reluctant to seek professional psychological help. Religiosity is considered as one of the factors that can influence one's preference for seeking psychological help, especially in Indonesian society, specifically in the city of Semarang, Central Java, which the life of society closely related to the value of religiosity. Therefore this study aimed to see the contribution of religiosity and religious coping in influencing the search for psychological help. This research was conducted at two universities, one state university and one Islamic private university which were determined through random sampling. Data collection was carried out online and offline with the Indonesian Islamic Psychological Measure of Islamic Psychology (I-PMIR), Islamic Religious Coping Scale (RCOPE), Attitude Towards Seeking Psychological Help (ATSPH), and Mental Health Seeking Help Intentions Scale (MHSIS) and obtained a total of 731 respondents. Multiple regression analysis showed that attitude was the strongest predictor of intention to seek psychological help (B= 0,556, p<0,01), followed by religious coping (B= 0,08, p<0,01), while religiosity was not a significant predictor. Further analysis showed the unique contribution of religious coping aspects towards the intention of seeking psychological help with F (5, 725) = 8,721, p<0,01, R 0,238. There were also differences in the contribution of religiosity and religious coping to the intention of seeking psychological help based on the background of the respondent (state or private Islamic university) which discussed further in the article.

Streszczenie:
Aim: The present study was undertaken to screen wheat cultivars for resistance against stripe rust and the improvement of resistance by exogenous gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) under field conditions and studying two contrasting cultivars for antioxidant related defense activities at 1, 2 and 4 d of GABA, Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst) and GABA+Pst treatments given to one-month-old seedlings. Methodology: Wheat cultivars (PBW723, PBW725, PBW677, PBW550, PBW343, PBW621, HD2967) were grown and exposed to Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst) and GABA+Pst in fields and studied for yield parameters. Subsequently, two cultivars found varying in resistance (PBW725 and HD2967) were analyzed for antioxidant enzymes in leaves and roots at 1, 2, and 4 day of GABA, Pst, and GABA+Pst and water as control given to 30 days old seedlings in the greenhouse. Results: Field analysis found that the most resistant cultivar PBW725 reduced vegetative growth but not yield compared to other resistant cultivars (PBW723 and PBW677) under Pst and improved both growth and yield under GABA+Pst. GABA+Pst improved yield parameters in other cultivars also. In defense analysis, superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) increased in the leaves of PBW725 while only APX increased in HD2967 at 1 d of Pst. In roots also, SOD and GST increased 2-fold in PBW725 while only GST increased 1.3-fold in HD2967 at 1 d of Pst. There was persistence of catalase (CAT), monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR), and dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR) during Pst in the leaves of PBW 725 while CAT decreased at 4 d in HD2967. In roots also, CAT and MDHAR increased at 4 days of Pstin PBW725 while DHAR decreased in HD2967. Under GABA, cultivar differences were not significant. GABA+Pst improved deficient antioxidant enzymes in HD2967. Interpretation: Energy conservation and timely regulation of antioxidant enzymes during infection was utilized by PBW725 against stripe rust. GABA deficiency can be a reason for poor regulation of antioxidants in HD2967 under Pst. GABA application improved resistance against stripe rust in wheat. Key words: Antioxidant, Ascorbate, Gamma-aminobutyric acid, Glutathione, Stripe rust, Triticum aestivum

Objective An escape room was used to study teamwork and its determinants, which have been found to relate to the quality and safety of patient care delivery. This pilot study aimed to explore the value of an escape room as a mechanism for improving cohesion among interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Methods This research was conducted at a nonprofit medical center in Southern California. All participants who work on a team were invited to participate. Authors employed an interrupted within-subjects design, with two pre- and post-escape room questionnaires related to two facets of group cohesion: (belonging – (PGC-B) and morale (PGC-M)). Participants rated their perceptions of group cohesion before, after, and one-month after the escape room. The main outcome measures included PGC-B/M. Results Sixty-two teams participated (n = 280 participants) of which 31 teams (50%) successfully “escaped” in the allotted 45 minutes. There was a statistically significant difference in PGC between the three time periods, F(4, 254) = 24.10, p < .001; Wilks’ Λ = .725; partial η2 = .275. Results indicated significantly higher scores for PGC immediately after the escape room and at the one-month follow-up compared to baseline. Conclusions This work offers insights into the utility of using an escape room as a team building intervention in interprofessional healthcare teams. Considering the modifiability of escape rooms, they may function as valuable team building mechanisms in healthcare. More work is needed to determine how escape rooms compare to more traditional team building curriculums.

IntroductionIncreasing longevity brings challenges for older adults’ satisfaction with life (SWL).AimsThis study aims at exploring a structural model of predictors of SWL in a cross-national sample of older adults.MethodsA community-dwelling sample of 1234 older adults was assessed regarding SWL, sense of coherence (SOC) and socio-demographic, lifestyle and health-related characteristics. Structural equation modeling was used to investigate a structural model of the self-reported SWL, comprising SOC, socio-demographic characteristics (age, sex, education, marital and professional status, household, adult children, income, living setting and religion), lifestyle and health-related characteristics (physical activity, recent disease and medication).ResultsSignificant predictors are SOC (β = .733; P < .001), religion (β = .725; P < .001), income (β = .551; P < .001), adult children (β = .546; P < .001), education (β = –.403; P < .001), living setting (β = –.292; P < .001) and medication (β = –.197; P < .001). The variables accounted for 24.8% of the variability of SWL. Moreover, differences between the four nationality groups (F(3, 671) = 3.671, P = .066) were not found concerning SWL.ConclusionsSense of coherence is the strongest predictor of self-reported SWL. Other predictors are religion, income, adult children, education, living setting and medication. The four nationalities did not present significant differences, concerning SWL. This study highlights the factors that influence older adults’ SWL, namely, SOC, religion and income, as promoters of aging well, within a salutogenic model of health for older populations.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Streszczenie:
Abstract The oxidized I-type Eagle Lake Granite stock in southwestern New Brunswick, Canada, is texturally divided into porphyritic and equigranular phases. The porphyritic granite consists of phenocrysts (i.e., plagioclase, K-feldspar, quartz, and biotite) and microcrystalline groundmass with minor magnetite–ilmenite, titanite, apatite, and zircon. The equigranular phase has a similar primary mineral assemblage to the porphyritic phase. Their common magnetite-ilmenite-titanite assemblage reflects co-crystallization (magnetite series) from a magma imparting some redox control. However, these granite phases show minor potassic to propylitic alteration mineral assemblages with very minor sulfides, suggesting localized fluid–rock reaction. The composition of plagioclase varies between albite and oligoclase, and K-feldspar is orthoclase commonly displaying considerable turbidity. The An% versus Al/(Ca+Na+K) data indicate that these feldspars are slightly aluminous, reflecting cryptic alteration. Biotite is rich in Fe, plotting near the boundary of primary and re-equilibrated biotite; these biotites formed at temperatures ranging from 670 to 725 °C, based on Ti-in-biotite thermometry. Secondary biotite grains are also locally evident, formed from magmatic-hydrothermal fluids. Secondary fine-grained biotite associated with fine-grained magnetite-pyrite indicates potassic alteration and related Cu±Mo±Au mineralization. Some of these various biotites are partially altered to chlorite at ∼301–361 °C. Like biotite, apatite occurs as both igneous and hydrothermal phases. Based on the concentration of F (4.21–2.90 wt.%), all these apatites are fluorapatites with content of light rare earth elements about 7000 ppm and Eu/Eu* = 0.16.

Streszczenie:
Bipolar plates can be responsible for up to 40% of the total stack cost and 80% of the weight of a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell [1]. To reduce these cost and weight limitations, this work explores injection molding of polymer composites. Injection molding is well-suited for mass production and polymeric materials can significantly reduce the weight of traditional metallic bipolar plates. While polymers lack electrical conductivity, fillers can be added to fabricate conductive polymer composites. The main objective of this research is to model and injection mold polymer composites that will meet the United States Department of Energy technical target for bipolar plate electrical conductivity (> 100 S/cm). A fiber contact model was developed to predict electrical conductivity based upon direction in the material, fiber alignment, fiber length and diameter, fiber concentration, and fiber conductivity [2]. Fiber alignment was measured experimentally by imaging cross sections of injection-molded nylon/carbon fiber composites. Imaging was performed on samples with different weight percentages of carbon fiber and from different mold designs to compare how fiber angles change based on mold geometry. To reduce the significant time required to measure fiber angles experimentally, computer recognition and processing of fiber alignment was developed. Nylon composites were injection molded with carbon fiber loadings ranging from 10 to 40 wt%. Modeling predictions show good correlation within 20% of experimental conductivity measurements. Samples with at least 20 wt% carbon fiber exceeded the US DOE technical target for bipolar plate conductivity, reaching 250 S/cm. In addition to modeling electrical conductivity, the Halpin-Tsai equations are used to model the elastic modulus and ultimate strain of the polymer composite. Tensile testing showed that the modulus of elasticity increases with carbon fiber loadings up to 30 wt%, reaching 7.3 GPa. At loadings above 30 wt%, the higher filler content can create voids which decrease the modulus of elasticity. De Las Heras, A.; Vivas, F. J.; Segura, F.; Andujar, J. M., From the cell to the stack. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to conduct the synthesization of LiFePO4-C (LFP-C) with fine particle size and enhanced electrochemical performance as the positive electrode material for Li-ion capacitors (LICs) with neutral aqueous electrolyte. Design/methodology/approach LFP-C was prepared by using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a grain growth inhibitor, and the effects of the calcination temperature and PEG content on the structure and morphology of LFP-C were investigated. LICs using environment-friendly, safe and low-cost LiNO3 aqueous electrolyte were assembled with LFP-C as the positive electrode and active carbon as the negative electrode. The electrochemical performances of LFP-C and LICs were studied. Findings The results show that the particle size of LFP-C decreases significantly through the introduction of PEG. Cyclic voltammetry results show that the LFP-C prepared at 550°C with 1.0 g PEG exhibits the highest Cpe of 725 F/g at the scanning rate of 5 mA/s. Compared to LFP prepared without PEG, the electrochemical performance of optimized LFP-C dramatically increases due to the decrease of the particle size. Moreover, the LIC assembled with the optimized LFP-C exhibits excellent electrochemical performances. The LIC maintains about 91.3 per cent of its initial Cps after 200 cycles which shows a good cycling performance. Research limitations/implications The LFP-C is the suitable positive electrode material for LICs with neutral aqueous electrolyte. LICs can be used in the field of automobiles and can solve the problems of energy shortage and environmental pollution. Originality/value Both the LFP-C with fine particle size and its optimal LIC using environment-friendly, safe and low-cost LiNO3 aqueous electrolyte own good electrochemical performances.

In a process, industrial plants have several tools that require steam to help run the processing of a material. For the heating process, PT. Petrokimia Gresik requires steam. Sometimes the steam leak during the process, which reduces the productivity of this industry. For that reason, the purpose of this calculation is to find out the steam loss during the process, especially in the urea globe control valve (PV-723, PV-726, PV-735). The result shows that the upstream pressure and temperature at PV-723 are 21 kg /cm2G and 307 oC, upstream pressure and temperature in PV-726 are 5 kg / cm2G and 158 oC, upstream pressure and temperature on PV-735 of 2.5 kg / cm2G and 138 oC. For downstream pressure on all valves is 1.03323 kg/cm2G. The obtained mass flow (F) in each valve is 0.514 tons / hr, 0.86 tons / hr and 1,902 tons / hr. The value of the input mass balance of steam in the system is 82.70 tons/hour and the overall output is74.11 tons/hour. Therefore, the total steam loss in PV-723, PV-726, and PV-735 is around 8.59 tons/hour which means there is some leak during the process that needs to do further investigation.

This study investigated the effect of instructional supervision on students’ grades at completion in public and private universities, Kampala Uganda. Using a descriptive correlational and a cross sectional survey design, the objective was set to examine the effect of instructional supervision on students’ grades at completion. .The study targeted university staff and sampled 750 lecturers from two public and two private universities. A researcher constructed questionnaire was employed to collect data on effectiveness of instructional supervision. While secondary data on students’ grades at completion for two years, 2019 and 2022, was obtained from the four universities. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics; frequencies as well as means and standard deviations at a university level. At a bivariate level, student’s two independent samples t-test, one way ANOVA and Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient were used. At multivariate level, multiple linear regression and multivariate analysis of variance and covariates (MANOVA) was used to test the hypothesis. The findings revealed that; instructional supervision was generally weak among the four universities studied (overall mean = 2.41= Weak IS; SD =0 .725); students’ grades at completion were generally fair, with only less than 55% of the students graduating what is considered good grades (first class and second class upper) degrees, while about 45% attained what is considered poor grades (second class lower and pass) degrees; the GLM MANOVA revealed that instructional supervision significantly affects students’ grades at completion (Wilks’ Lambda = 0.967; F= 2.029;Sig. =.019;Partial Eta2 =0 .011). .The researcher recommends that, to improve students’ grades at completion, university managers and administrators should strengthen instructional supervision through involving academic staff, HODs, Deans/ principals and Director academic affairs, in supervision planning, ensuring that lecture monitoring is done by professional and competent staff, regularly and consistently from the beginning to the end and improving feedback provision, ensuring that lecturers are given immediate feedback about their strength and weaknesses and supporting them through simple discussions and dialogue with more experienced lecture observers .

In recent years, in the conditions of the central zone of the Krasnodar region, downy mildew has become the most dangerous disease of winter false flax that affects the crop yield. Either the infected plants do not develop reproductive organs or these organs are undeveloped. The development of varieties resistant to infection by the disease causative agent allows efficient reducing the seed yield loss of winter false flax due to downy mildew without the use of chemical products. In 2015-2019, we conducted an assessment of the breeding material (528 cultivar samples) of winter false flax for resistance to downy mildew affection on a natural infection background. We determined that the causative agent of the disease is Peronospora brassicae Gaeum. f. brassicae (Gaeum.) Dzhan. We divided all cultivar samples into groups according to their resistance to the disease: immune, resistant, weakly resistant, weakly susceptible, susceptible. As a result of research, we selected 5 breeding samples (## 724, 726, 728, 730, 738) that were immune to downy mildew in the course of several years, with yield exceeding the standard variety Karat by 0.22-0.38 t/ha, and with oil content exceeding the standard by 0.2-0.5 %. We proposed to use the selected cultivar samples in the breeding process with the aim of developing new false flax varieties resistant to downy mildew.

4627 Background: ChemoRT after surgery for locally advanced gastric cancer improves overall and relapse-free survival (OS and RFS) compared to observation (NEJM 2000,345:725–30). However, loco-regional recurrences (>50%) remain high and we hypothesized that adding IP FUDR would further improve outcome. Methods: Patients (pts) ECOG performance status (PS) 0–2, gastric/gastroesphogeal(GEJ) adenocarcinoma stage Ib-IV (M0) undergoing R0 resection were eligible, and had insertion of IP catheters at surgery. IP FUDR(3gm/dose/day) was given on protocol days 1, 2, 3 and 15, 16, 17 prior to 5-FU/LV and external beam RT (45Gy) as in cited study. Simon 2-stage optimum design was used to demonstrate safety. Endpoints also included were loco-regional recurrence and survival. Results: 28 pts with gastric/GEJ adenocarcinoma (25/3) were enrolled from 2002 to 2006 at 2 institutions: median age 59.5 years (range 39–81), M /F (21/7). R0 gastric resection was performed with dissection of median 22 (range 8–102) lymph nodes(LN’s). 22/28 pts were lymph node positive. Full dose IP FUDR was completed in 20/28 pts. 4 pts required dose reduction (1 for grade(gr) 2 hepatic enzyme elevation, 2 gr 2 neutropenia, 1 gr 4 neutropenia), 3 discontinued therapy (1 gr 3 abdominal pain, 1 GI abscess, and 1 bleeding arterial pseudoaneurysm). One pt received no IP treatment due to catheter failure. 24/28 pts completed chemoRT and had toxicity comparable to that previously reported in the Intergroup 0116 trial. At 26 month median follow up (range 2.8–43.4), of the 26 pts evaluable for response, 16 pts are NED, 6 alive with disease, 3 dead of disease, and 1 dead from other cause. 5 recurrences were intra-abdominal, 1 local, 2 distant, and 1 at multiple sites. At present analysis, the median RFS is 32.5 months. Conclusions: IP FUDR prior to chemoRT after R0 gastric cancer resection is well tolerated. A randomized study to test its role in reducing regional recurrence and improving outcome is warranted. (FDA Orphan Products grant# FD-R-2150–04) No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Streszczenie:
Monocrystalline SiGe alloys can be used instead of monocrystalline Si in order to increase the performances of devices such as heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) [1]. The epitaxial growth of blanket, monocrystalline SiGe layers on Si with a dichlorosilane + germane + hydrochloric acid chemistry was extensively investigated in the literature [2,3]. Similarly, a switch from polycrystalline Si to polycrystalline SiGe can be favorable, for instance, in Complementary-MOS (C-MOS) devices [4,5]. However, the blanket growth by Reduced-Pressure Vapor Deposition (RP-CVD) of polycrystalline Si and SiGe has not been systematically investigated. We have thus performed a one-to-one comparison in terms of growth kinetics and electrically active dopant incorporation between blanket monocrystalline and polycrystalline Si(:B) and SiGe(:B) layers. Epitaxies or depositions were performed, in 300 mm RP-CVD chambers, on two types of templates (Fig.1): i) N-type Si substrates (Fig.1(a)) and ii) poly-Si/oxide/ P-type Si substrates (Fig.1(b)). The poly-Si layer in stack 1.(b) was obtained thanks to amorphous Si deposition followed by annealing at 750 °C, resulting in a poly-Si film. SiH4+HCl+H2 (named Process 1) and SiH2Cl2 (DCS)+HCl+GeH4+H2 (named Process 2) chemistries were used to deposit Si and SiGe layers between 675-750 °C and 10-20 Torr. Monocrystalline and polycrystalline SiGe growth kinetics for two process conditions: i) 750 °C, 10 Torr with a HCl partial pressure of 0.05 Torr and ii) 725 °C, 10 Torr, with a HCl partial pressure of 0.06 Torr, were similar to that in the literature [1-3, 6-8]. As already shown for monocrystalline layers, there was an increase of the intrinsic SiGe growth with the germane partial pressure and the temperature. Meanwhile, it was reduced when adding HCl (Fig.2). Very similar growth rates and evolutions were however obtained whatever the crystalline state of the layers. When diborane was added the gaseous mixture, different behaviors were evidenced depending on i) the crystallinity and ii) the stoichiometry. The Si:B and SiGe:B growth rates increased with the B2H6 flow whatever the chemistry (Fig.3). This was due to a hydrogen desorption increase on boron surface sites [5,10-11]. Growth rates were otherwise higher for monocrystalline than for polycrystalline layers. The electrical resistivities of c-Si:B and c-SiGe:B layers were one decade lower than those of poly-Si:B and poly-SiGe:B layers, however (Fig.4). Resistivity values were otherwise higher for c-Si:B than for c-SiGe:B. This was likely due to i) a better incorporation of B atoms into SiGe than in Si [3,8,9] and ii) a better hole mobility in SiGe [10]. An opposite behavior was observed for polycrystalline layers, with higher resistivities for poly-SiGe:B than for poly-Si:B. We otherwise had similar resistivity evolutions as the partial pressure of diborane Pp(B2H6) increased for all types of layers. A decrease was observed first, followed by a resistivity plateau then some resistivity re-increase for really high diborane flows. Such a phenomenon was already observed for monocrystalline layers and was explained by a crystalline quality degradation [3,8,9] that reduced the hole mobility. A similar behavior was assumed for poly-layers, with a morphological transition to the amorphous phase [11,12]. Top-view Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images (Fig. 5) confirmed the morphological evolution of c-Si:B, poly-Si:B, c-SiGe:B and poly-SiGe:B as the diborane partial pressure increased. New data points for c-SiGe and c-SiGe:B will also be provided for other process conditions. For intrinsic layers, we will show that Refs. [1,2] x2/(1-x) = n×(F(GeH4)/F(SiH2Cl2)) relationship between the Ge concentration x and the germane over dichlorosilane mass-flow ratio is also valid at 10 Torr, with n = 3 at 700 °C with a F(SiH2Cl2)/F(H2) Mass-Flow Ratio (MFR) of 0.005 and a F(HCl)/F(H2) MFR of 0.006. Various characterization techniques were also used to determine the concentration of substitutional Boron atoms in SiGe:B layers and the lattice contraction coefficient (β = 9.11×10-24 cm3). The value of the latter, which is most useful to assess the compressive strain compensation by small boron atoms in SiGe layers, will be compared to literature values. [1] J. Appl. Streszczenie:
Cathodic synthesis is a highly attractive technique for N,O bond reduction.[1] Especially, electro-reductions of nitro arenes enable the access to high-valuable products like nitrones and N-heterocycles.[2] These substances are in general unique structural motifs in natural products or in compounds with significant biological properties, such as antibiotic, antiplasmodial, antimycotic, antihypertensive, hyperglycemic and cytotoxic activities.[3] Commonly used synthesis methods require large amounts of metallic reducing agents, expensive transition metal catalysts, or hazardous oxidizers in case the corresponding heterocycles are accessible otherwise.[4] Several examples have been described with constant potential conditions using mercury or sacrificial lead electrodes.[5] Due to cathodic corrosion of heavy metals, this proves to be a critical aspect and mercury is banned in the most countries for technical applications.[6] Therefore, the urge for more sustainable processes is of high focus. We describe an access to 1H-1-hydroxyquninolin-4-ons by cathodic reaction of nitrobenzoyl acetones synthesized from broad available nitrobenzoic acids. Using metal-free BDD cathodes (boron-doped diamond), sulfuric acid as a simple supporting electrolyte, in addition to an aqueous electrolyte system with an environmentally benign co-solvent agree with sustainable and green aspects. The scalability under constant current conditions in an undivided cell has been shown in a twentyfold scale. The electrochemical synthesis protocol was applied to 18 examples including the antibiotic substance HQNO (1H-2-heptyl-1-hydroxy quinolin-4-ons) and various precursors for enzymatic aurachine synthesis.[7] Furthermore, we developed a method to a novel substance class of 4H-4-hydroxy-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-1,1-dioxides. Reduction of the nitro precursors applying BDD cathodes result in hydroxylamines using divided cells with glass frits as separators. The applicability of this electro-reductive cyclisation is demonstrated by the synthesis of a broad product scope with activated, deactivated, labile and sterically demanding substitution patterns for potential further modification towards pharmaceutical applications.[8] Particularly, we described the synthesis of the N-Hydroxy analogues of diazoxide, a medication on the WHO list of essential medicines.[8,9] Studies on the biological activities of these new compounds are currently performed. Streszczenie:
Abstract Introduction: While the chemoimmunotherapy combination of rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisone (R-CHOP) is the standard-of-care in 1L treatment for DLBCL, 30-40% of patients either relapse or are refractory to R-CHOP (Coiffier et al. N Engl J Med 2002). The initiation of subsequent therapies post relapse is integral to relapsed/refractory (R/R) DLBCL management and is associated with substantial treatment cost. Previous studies of treatment costs for R/R DLBCL patients are outdated and exclude novel therapies (e.g. chimeric antigen receptor [CAR-]T therapies). Thus, the cost of disease progression may be underestimated. Using data through 2020, we sought to understand the economic burden associated with disease progression in the DLBCL treatment landscape. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study using administrative claims data from IQVIA PharMetrics ® Plus (a US commercial claims database). We identified patients ≥18 years, who received 1L R-CHOP treatments between January 1, 2010 and June 30, 2018. Patients were required to have ≥1 inpatient claim or ≥2 outpatient claims with a DLBCL diagnosis from 1 year before to 90 days after initiating R-CHOP. End of therapy was defined as a gap of ≥60 days in the treatment regimen or initiation of new agents (OPTUM 2018). Using this definition as a proxy for progression, patients not receiving second-line (2L) treatment for ≥2 years were assigned to the 'no progression' cohort and those who initiated non-R-CHOP therapy after 1L therapy to the 'progression' cohort. In both cohorts, index date was defined as either 60 days after the end of 1L treatment, or the initiation of 2L treatment, whichever occurred first. All patients had continuous enrollment in medical and pharmacy benefits between R-CHOP initiation and ≥2 years post index date, allowing time for post-1L relapse. Costs per-patient-per-month (PPPM) and 3-year cumulative all-cause costs (2020 USD) were compared between cohorts. Generalized linear models (gamma distribution with log link) were performed to adjust for baseline characteristics, including age and payer type at index, sex, US region, Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), and baseline total cost of care 1 year before index date. Results: Overall, 871 patients were identified; 58% were female. The mean (standard deviation [SD]) age and CCI (excluding malignancy) at index date were 58.0 (11.7) years, and 2.5 (3.1) years, respectively. The mean follow-up period was 45 months. Patients in the 'no progression' cohort (N = 725; 83.2%) had similar baseline characteristics to those in the 'progression' cohort (N = 146; 16.8%). About half (N = 76; 52.1%) of the progression cohort had multiple relapse events, with 30.8% receiving ≥4 lines of therapy. Among the progression cohort, 73 (50.0%) and 10 (6.8%) patients received stem-cell transplant (SCT) and CAR-T therapy, respectively. The mean PPPM cost was higher among progressors than non-progressors (unadjusted: $10,163 vs $1,569; adjusted: $10,554 vs $1,561, p < 0.001, Table 1). The major cost driver for disease progression was inpatient costs (41.7% of total costs for progressors vs 19.1% for non-progressors). Cost of progression associated with multiple relapse events was more than twice the cost associated with a single event (unadjusted: $13,934 vs $6,069; adjusted: $14,676 vs $6,216, p < 0.001, Table 1). Compared with no progression, receiving novel treatments after 1L was associated with considerably higher costs (unadjusted: $14,539 [SCT] and $25,032 [CAR-T] vs $1,569; adjusted: $14,306 [SCT/CAR-T] vs $1,549, p < 0.001, Table 2). Similar trends were seen comparing unadjusted 3-year cumulative costs based on month of disease progression in patients in the 'no progression', 'progression' and SCT/CAR-T subgroups (Figure 1). Conclusion: In this analysis of insurance claims through 2020, we systematically selected patients who survived for at least 2 years after the index date; this represented approximately 80% of DLBCL patients treated with 1L R-CHOP. The cost of disease progression in DLBCL is considerable, especially among patients receiving novel treatments as later lines of therapy. The costs for patients experiencing multiple relapse events were more than twice the cost for patients with a single relapse event. Effective frontline treatments for DLBCL are needed to reduce the economic burden associated with disease progression. Figure 1 Figure 1. Streszczenie:
Background:Oxidative stress associated with vascular damage represents one the major contributor in the pathogenesis of systemic sclerosis (SSc) [1]. Indeed, different studies demonstrated that excessive free radicals production can contribute to the activation of fibrotic process in the skin and visceral organs [1]. CXCL10 and CXCL11, together with their receptor CXCR3, are involved in vascular damage and in fibrosis [2]. Furthermore, these chemokines have been proposed as biomarkers of vascular damage progression and severe SSc prognosis [3].Emerging evidences highlight the beneficial effects of the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, sildenafil, to protect different cell types from reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced DNA damage, in vitro [3]. This effect has been linked to modulation of CXCL10 concentration in different pathological conditions [4,5].Objectives:Here we set out to investigate the effects of sildenafil, in modulating the CXCR3/CXCL10, -11 inflammatory axis in dermal fibroblasts exposed to oxidative stress, in vitro. Methods:Human dermal fibroblasts isolated by SSc skin biopsies were treated for 24h with 100µM of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), in the presence or not of sildenafil (1µM). Dermal fibrobalsts from healthy skin were used as controls. CXCL10 and CXCL11 were evaluated in cell medium by luminex technology assay; expression of chemokine receptor (CXCR)3 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPARγ) (a regulator of CXCL10,-11 mRNA) was evaluated by western blot assay. Results:As showed in figure 1, SSc fibroblasts (grey bar) showed similar basal levels of CXCL10 (A) and CXCL11 (B) to healthy controls (black bar). H2O2 induced a significant increase of both chemokines only in SSc fibroblasts (by 4.6 fold for CXCL10 and by 4.2 fold for CXCL11) (*P<0.05 and **P<0.01 vs. c; #P<0.05 vs. healthy controls). Sildenal pre-incubation reduced by approximatively 50% the effects of H2O2 on chemokines release (Figure 1A and B) (§P<0.05 vs. H2O2), and reduced the expression of CXCR3 and PPARγ induced by hydrogen peroxyde exposure (data not shown). Conclusion:In vitro study on dermal fibroblasts support clinical studies to determine the efficacy of sildenafil in the preventing tissue damage and fibrosis in SSc, by reducing the pro-inflammatory activation induced by oxidative stress.References:[1]Di Luigi L, Sgrò P, Duranti G, Sabatini S, Caporossi D, Del Galdo F, Dimauro I, Antinozzi C.
