Members of family Elaeocarpaceae are known for its medicinal properties since long back in traditional medicinal systems. Along with its medicinal usage it has also got spiritual importance due to its electromagnetic nature and mythological convictions. Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb. is commonly known as Rudraksha in India. Phytochemical analysis has revealed the presence of many pharmaco-active constituents like tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, carbohydrates and acids in different extracts of plant parts. Several studies have been done to explore the pharmacological activities of different extracts of the members of Elaeocarpaceae family specially Rudraksha. In this review, we have tried to consolidate the available reports on the phytochemical constituents, and pharmacological properties of Elaeocarpus species.

Streszczenie:
The relationships among rare ‘leafless’ species of Tetratheca Sm. occurring on banded ironstone ranges near Koolyanobbing, Western Australia, and allied, unclassified, populations from Eneabba, Newdegate and the Die Hardy Range have been assessed by molecular characters. These findings, in conjunction with morphological investigations, have identified a new species and two new subspecies from within the ‘T. aphylla group’ and these are formally described here. Tetratheca nephelioides R.Butcher, is geographically restricted to the Eneabba area and has close morphological affinity to T. aphylla F.Muell. Tetratheca aphylla subsp. megacarpa R.Butcher, is restricted to the Newdegate area, some 300 km south of the only known populations of T. aphylla subsp. aphylla in the Helena and Aurora Range. Tetratheca paynterae Alford subsp. cremnobata R.Butcher is restricted to the Die Hardy Range, c. 10 km north-east of the only known population of T. paynterae subsp. paynterae at ‘Windarling’. All of these taxa are recognised as Declared Rare Flora. In the process of updating the existing key to ‘leafless’ species of Tetratheca to include these new taxa, two additional new species were identified from within collections of T. nuda Lindl. These are described here as T. angulata R.Butcher and T. applanata R.Butcher. Images and distribution maps for all taxa are provided.

A key to species of Sericocampsomeris from China and a distribution map are provided. Furthermore, we identify Sericocampsomeris punctata Liu & Chen, sp. nov. as a pollinator of Elaeocarpus sp. The temperature range of germination of seeds of Muntingia calabura L. was 15-35° C and the optimum temperature at 35° C where more seeds germinated at short period. The fluence response curves demonstrated the involvement of phytochrome in the control of germination through the low fluence response. The effect of photoperiod showed that the species need long daily exposures to white light and that shade light inhibited completely seed germination, confirming as pioneer species that colonized only large gaps in the forest.

Streszczenie:
The creation of the International Fossil Plant Names Index (IFPNI 2014 onwards, Doweld 2015) with listing of all fossil plant, algal and fungal species reveals the homonymy between fossil-species belonging to genus Elaeocarpus Linnaeus (1753: 515). The fossil-species Elaeocarpus microphyllus Budantsev & Sveshnikova (1964: 102) was described based on the leaf remains from the Tertiary (Oligocene) sediments near Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad region, Russian Federation (former East Prussia). However, Elmer (1911) and independently Warburg (1922), proposed the earlier homonyms Elaeocarpus microphyllus Elmer (1911: 1189) and E. microphyllus Warburg (1922: 328) respectively, which were overlooked. According to Art. 53.1 of the ICN (McNeill et al. 2012), a junior fossil homonym, Elaeocarpus microphyllus Budants. & Sveshn. is illegitimate and hence a new name is proposed here. A new nomenclatural act was registered through a pilot registration version in the International Fossil Plant Names Index (IFPNI 2014 onwards), with unique persistent registration barcode (LSID) listed under each newly proposed fossil plant taxon.
