An eigen-based theory for structure-dependent integration methods is constructed and it can provide the fundamental basis for the successful development of this type of integration methods. It is proved that a structure-dependent integration method can simultaneously combine unconditional stability and explicit formulation since it is proposed to accurately integrate low-frequency modes while no instability is guaranteed for high-frequency modes. In general, it is promising for solving inertial problems, where the total response is dominated by low-frequency modes. In addition, it can be explicitly and implicitly implemented for time integration although an explicit implementation is of practical significance since it can save many computational efforts due to the combination of unconditional stability and explicit formulation. A typical procedure to develop structure-dependent integration methods is constructed. In general, a coupled equation of motion for a multiple degree of freedom system can be decomposed into a set of uncoupled modal equations of motion by means of an eigen-decomposition technique. Next, an eigen-dependent integration method is developed to solve each modal equation of motion. Consequently, all the eigen-dependent integration methods are combined to form a structure-dependent integration method by employing a reverse procedure of the eigen-decomposition technique.

The subspace iteration method, commonly used for solving symmetric eigenvalue problems in structural dynamics, can be extended to solve nonsymmetric fluid-structure interaction problems in terms of fluid pressure and structural displacement. The two cornerstones for such extension are a nonsymmetric equation solver for the inverse iteration and a nonsymmetric eigen-procedure for subspace eigen-solution. The implementation of a nonsymmetric equation solver can easily be obtained by modifying the existing symmetric procedure; however, the nonsymmetric eigen-solver requires a new procedure such as the real form of the LZ-algorithm. With these extensions the subspace iteration method can solve large fluid-structure interaction problems by extracting a group of eigenpairs at a time. The method can generally be applied to compressible and incompressible fluid-structure interaction problems.

For the calculation of building structures under the influence of external dynamic loads, it is necessary to know the eigen frequencies of the structures themselves in order to prevent such a phenomenon as resonance. Steel has distinctive properties from concrete, so its consideration is necessary to determine the eigen frequency of the whole structure. This article presents the calculation of the cantilever beam analytically and in the software package Abaqus for linear and volumetric problems with the interaction of concrete and reinforcement. Due to the reinforcement, the beam eigen frequencies differ from the eigen frequency of the conventional rigidly fixed rod, as evidenced by the results of the calculation.

This study aims to determine the factors that influence hotel reservation service at Bali Megah Wisata Tour and Travel and a contributing factor dominant in hotel reservation service at Bali Megah Wisata Tour and Travel. The respondents in this study use purposive sampling technique in which the criteria are tourists who have made hotel reservation at Bali Megah Wisata Tour and Travel, with the total sample of 190 respondents. Questionnaires were used to collect data have been tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis which is used to answer the hypothesis of this study is factor analysis. The results of factor analysis showed that 5 factors affecting hotel reservation service at Bali Megah Wisata Tour and Travel are structur and ease of use factor with eigen value 6,492, reputation and security factor with eigen value 2,671, usefulness factor with eigen value 2,497, information content factor with eigen value 1,889 and responsiveness and personalization factor with eigen value 1,059. Structure and ease of use factor is a contributing factor dominant in hotel reservation service at Bali Megah Wisata Tour and Travel.

Abstract Considering disadvantages of lateral/directional mode characteristics of civil aircraft, design requirements are thus presented and the P-Beta control law architecture is adopted for the lateral/directional control law. Meanwhile, the practical application of eigen structure assignment in the design of lateral/directional control law is studied. By eigen structure assignment the closed loop is designed, and the decoupling of roll channel and yaw channel is realized. Through the design of feed-forward command channel, the pilot’s stick control roll rate and pedal control sideslip angle are realized. Simulation results show that the designed lateral/directional flight control law could meet design requirements.

Estimation for direction of arrival (DOA) is an important work in array signal processing, and subspace method such as MUSIC algorithm is basic and important in DOA estimation. This paper analyzes the structure of eigen value of variance matrix, and proposes a method to estimate the signal noise ratio (SNR) of the data received by sensor array. With the accurate estimation for SNR, we can estimate the work environment and decide detect threshold for many algorithm. The paper also proposes a method to promote the SNR of covariance matrix with moving the covariance slice to do DOA estimation. It can efficiently widen the difference of signal eigen value and noise eigen value.

According to the complex boundary condition of real bridge structure, appendix restraint parameters of structure boundary condition were detailed analyzed. The appendix horizontal and torsional restraint parameters were selected as research object. The least square constrained optimization inversion method was used to establish the question of reverse of bridge structure boundary appendix parameters based on tested and calculated mode parameters. The first order perturbation of eigen-value and eigen-vector based on matrix perturbation theory were substituted into the constrained optimization inversion equation, so the solving efficiency was improved greatly, and the iteration method was used to improve the precision. The corresponding program was made, and the example of a maglev railway girder shows that fairly well precise bridge structure boundary appendix parameters can be reserved with only former several modes parameters through four to seven times of iteration calculation.

AbstractA theoretical formalism is developed to obtain the mode structure of right circularly polarized nonlinear laser Eigen mode in a self created plasma channel in the presence of an axial magnetic field. The nonlinearity in electron response arises due to relativistic mass effect and ponderomotive force induced density redistribution. The Eigen mode is seen to be unstable to stimulated Raman backscattering involving an electrostatic quasi-mode and a scattered electromagnetic wave. The growth rate increases with ambient magnetic field.

Nowadays medical imaging has played an important role in clinical use, which provide important clues for medical diagnosis. In medical image fusion, the extraction of some fine details and description is critical. To solve this problem, a modified structure tensor by considering similarity between two patches is proposed. The patch based filter can suppress noise and add the robustness of the eigen-values of the structure tensor by allowing the use of more information of far away pixels. After defining the new structure tensor, we apply it into medical image fusion with a multi-resolution wavelet theory. The features are extracted and described by the eigen-values of two multi-modality source data. To test the performance of the proposed scheme, the CT and MR images are used as input source images for medical image fusion. The experimental results show that the proposed method can produce better results compared to some related approaches.

This paper presents a stiffness-oriented structure topology optimization (TO) method for the design of a continuous, hinge-free compliant mechanism (CM). A synthesis formulation is developed to maximize the mechanism’s mutual potential energy (MPE) to achieve required structure flexibility while maximizing the desired stiffness to withstand the loads. Different from the general approach of maximizing the overall stiffness of the structure, the proposed approach can contribute to guiding the optimization process focus on the desired stiffness in a specified direction by weighting the related eigen-frequency of the corresponding eigenmode. The benefit from this is that we can make full use of the material in micro-level compliant mechanism designs. The single-node connected hinge issue which often happened in optimized design can be precluded by introducing the eigen-frequency constraint into this synthesis formulation. Several obtained hinge-free designs illustrate the validity and robustness of the presented method and offer an alternative method for hinge-free compliant mechanism designs.

The goal of this research is to devise a method of differential equation based modeling of evolution that can scale up to capture complex dynamics by enabling the inclusion of many—potentially thousands—of biological characteristics. Towards that goal, a mathematical model for evolution based on the well-established Fisher-Eigen process is built with a unique and efficient structure. The Fisher-Eigen partial differential equation (PDE) describes the evolution of a probability density function representing the distribution of a population over a phenotype space. This equation depends on the choice of a fitness function representing the likelihood of reproductive success at each point in the phenotype space. The Fisher-Eigen model has been studied analytically for simple fitness functions, but in general no analytic solution is known. Furthermore, with traditional numerical methods, the equation becomes exponentially complex to simulate as the dimensionality of the problem expands to include more phenotypes. For this research, a network model is synthesized and a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is extracted based on the Fisher-Eigen PDE to describe the dynamic behavior of the system. It is demonstrated that, when juxtaposed with full numerical PDE simulations, this ODE model finds well-matched transient and precise equilibrium solutions. This prototype method makes modeling of high-dimensional data possible, allowing researchers to examine and even predict complex dynamic behavior based on a snapshot of a population. In this work, we have calculated analytically the energy spectra of electrons and holes in V-grooves quantum wires. To modify wire structure, we have used the equations which suggested in the work of Inoshita et al. We introduce a new effective potential scheme which is applicable and matchable with actual interface geometry of this groove of ridge quantum wires. By applying this effective potential and considering a suitable transformed coordinate that allows the decoupling of the two-dimensional wave functions, we have calculated eigen values of the charge carriers in three states as well as the wave functions. We found that by increasing the curvature at the top of quantum wire [Formula: see text] the energy eigen value decreases. Our results are in good agreement with the earlier investigations.

A precise understanding of the dynamics of a blade is essential for its design, especially in the development of new structures and the resolution of noise and vibration problems. This understanding involves the study of experimental and/or theoretical modal analysis. These latter present effective tools for describing, understanding and modelling the dynamic aspect of each structure, in the present work, we are going to establish the Eigen-mode of a wind turbine blade made by a new composite material ‘hemp fibre’ using theoretical calculation for flap-wise, edge-wise and torsional mode using the finite element method applied to a structure consisting of a beam embedded at one end, based on the Euler-Bernoulli hypothesis and the equation of beam’s motion. A new method using an incomplete measurement set to locate and identify structural damage is proposed. The method is iterative yet computationally efficient and requires no sensitivity calculations. Mass and stiffness matrices, established by finite element method, are partitioned and measured partial eigenvectors are expanded to full modes. Stiffness reduction coefficients for structural elements are defined and then solved by a nonnegative least-squares solution scheme. With much less measured degrees of freedom and even less measured modes than the finite element analysis degrees of freedom, the proposed approach can still identify the damaged locations and extent of the damage in a structure. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated by solving a numerically simulated example on the GARTEUR SM-AG19 structure.

Abstract This article investigates piezoelectric materials for harnessing vibrational energy. A nano hollow cylindrical structure based on various piezoelectric materials was designed and utilised to generate the voltage. An accurate and efficient model is developed here, so as to optimized the efficiency of the piezoelectric energy harvester. This work analyses the piezoelectric actuator deflection and involves the Eigen frequency computation. A measurement methodology for investigating the mechanical and electrical behaviour of vibrational harvester's was modelled and analysed by finite element method using COMSOL software. The energy harvesting structure was developed and tested with different piezoelectric materials to attain appreciable voltage through a small deflection. The Simulated results predicts that for the same pressure range, different piezoelectric materials have the different output voltage and Eigen frequencies. The maximum voltage was observed for Barium Titanate (3.0847 V at 250 µm), along with poled Polyvinylidene fluoride. In addition, a comparison was made with different piezoelectric materials ideally suited to intelligent cantilever structure. For optimizing the performance of the piezoelectric energy harvester an accurate and efficient model is required, which was developed in this simulation study. A high voltage value with a small deflection through a cylindrical hollow structure was designed and tested using various piezoelectric materials in this study.

The exact coincidence of external excitation and basic eigen-frequency of a single degree of freedom (SDOF) nonlinear system produces stationary response with constant amplitude and phase shift. When the excitation frequency differs from the system eigen-frequency, various types of quasi-periodic response occur having a character of a beating process. The period of beating changes from infinity in the resonance point until a couple of excitation periods outside the resonance area. Theabove mentioned phenomena have been identified in many papers including authors’ contributions. Nevertheless, investigation of internal structure of a quasi-period and its dependence on the difference of excitation and eigen-frequency is still missing. Combinations of harmonic balance and small parameter methods are used for qualitative analysis of the system in mono- and multi-harmonic versions. They lead to nonlinear differential and algebraic equations serving as a basis for qualitativeanalytic estimation or numerical description of characteristics of the quasi-periodic system response. Zero, first and second level perturbation techniques are used. Appearance, stability and neighborhood of limit cycles is evaluated. Numerical phases are based on simulation processes and numerical continuation tools. Parametric evaluation and illustrating examples are presented.

Joints are the main source of nonlinearity and energy dissipation in large assembled structures which could be otherwise considered as linear. Consequently, modeling and parameter identification of joints play a significant role in any successful design and finite element (FE) modeling of structures. In the present research, an identification procedure is proposed for the modeling of the nonlinear behavior of a bolted joint. The main emphasis are placed on the simplicity of the experimental procedures involved as well as ease of incorporation of the identified model in the FE model of the structure. Using the concept of the optimum equivalent linear frequency response function, structure was excited by two levels of random force, at two bolt preload levels, and then the eigen values of the nonlinear structure and the inverse eigen-sensitivity identification technique are used, in order to identify the nonlinear properties of bolted joints. The results of implementing the method are promising and indicative of the fact that, in contrast to static Iwan’s model of a bolted joint, the equivalent dynamic characteristics of a bolted joint may be frequency dependent, as the different modes will affect the interface zone of the jointed structures in a different manner.

What does the structure of the bond graph reveal about the eigenvalues of linear systems and about the stability of the linear and nonlinear systems they represent? In an earlier work, estimates of the eigen spectra of systems were given based on the structural classification of a canonical form of the bond graph. This work provides stability criteria based on the structure of the bond graph canonical form for linear and nonlinear time invariant dynamic systems. Tighter bounds on the eigen spectrum are also provided for the class of systems with uniform tree simple full graphs. It is shown that if a system is modeled by a standard bond graph whose canonical form is of the simple full or simple partial class, then estimates of the system stability, asymptotic stability, or instability can be obtained directly from the properties of the resistance field. The stability estimates can be automated and are obtained prior to the derivation of the dynamic equations. The stability properties can be used also as a design tool to suggest stabilizing feedback at the graphical modeling stage of the design process.

Repetition of a structural motif within protein is associated with a wide range of structural and functional roles. In most cases the repeating units are well conserved at the structural level while at the sequence level, they are mostly undetectable suggesting the need for structure-based methods. Since most known methods require a training dataset, de novo approach is desirable. Here, we propose an efficient graph-based approach for detecting structural repeats in proteins. In a protein structure represented as a graph, interactions between inter- and intra-repeat units are well captured by the eigen spectra of adjacency matrix of the graph. These conserved interactions give rise to similar connections and a unique profile of the principal eigen spectra for each repeating unit. The efficacy of the approach is shown on eight repeat families annotated in UniProt, comprising of both solenoid and nonsolenoid repeats with varied secondary structure architecture and repeat lengths. The performance of the approach is also tested on other known benchmark datasets and the performance compared with two repeat identification methods. For a known repeat type, the algorithm also identifies the type of repeat present in the protein. A web tool implementing the algorithm is available at the URL http://bioinf.iiit.ac.in/PRIGSA/ .

On the base of finite element linear Eigen value analysis, overall stability analysis of Schwedler reticulated dome has been conducted by means of the nonlinear finite element method. The arc-length method was utilized to solve the nonlinear equation systems, and the load-displacement curves of the spatial latticed shell structure were obtained. It is safer to adopt the nonlinear buckling analysis for structure. These can provide a valuable reference for the design and analysis of the similar special latticed shell.

The robot dynamic model is often rarely known due to various uncertainties such as parametric uncertainties or modeling errors existing in complex environments. It is a key problem to find the relationship between the changes of neural network structure and the changes of input and output environments and their mutual influences. Firstly, this paper defined the conceptions of neural network solution, neural network eigen solution, neural network complete solution, and neural network partial solution and the conceptions of input environments, output environments, and macrostructure of neural networks. Secondly, an eigen solution theory of general neural networks was proposed and proven including consistent approximation theorem, eigen solution existence theorem, consistency theorem of complete solution, the partial solution, and none solution theorem of neural networks. Lastly, to verify the eigen solution theory of neural networks, the proposed theory was applied to a novel prediction and analysis model of controller parameters of grinding robot in complex environments with deep neural networks and then build prediction model with deep learning neural networks for controller parameters of grinding robot. The morphological subfeature graph with multimoment was constructed to describe the block surface morphology using rugosity, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis. The results of theoretical analysis and experimental test show that the output traits have an optional effect with joint action. When the input features functioning in prediction increase, higher predicted accuracy can be obtained. And when the output traits involving in prediction increase, more output traits can be predicted. The proposed prediction and analysis model with deep neural networks can be used to find and predict the inherent laws of the data. Compared with the traditional prediction model, the proposed model can predict output features simultaneously and is more stable.

Salt has a salty taste obtained by drying seawater into mineral crystals. However, the quality of industrial salt in Indonesia is still an obstacle, so the need for industrial salt still relies on imported salt. The quality of salt is shown from physical and chemical appearance. Good salt is shown by the crystal form which is smooth and has a clear white color. Good salt quality knowledge must be known so that it can meet Indonesia's national standards and can distinguish salt designation based on its quality category. This study compares the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) and Analytical Hierarchy Proccess (AHP) methods to determine the highest quality salt. The SAW method gives weight to each of its attributes and the total score finally produces an alternative decision that matches the criteria, thus producing a high-quality salt. While the AHP method starts by creating a hierarchical structure that has the main objectives, criteria, sub criteria and alternatives to be discussed. Pairwise comparisons are used to form relationships in the structure. So it will form a matrix where the ratio scale is derived in the form of the main vector eigen or function-eigen.

The problem of instability of azimuthally small-scale Alfven and slow magnetosonic (SMS) waves in the geotail is solved. The solutions describe unstable oscillations in the presence of a current sheet and correspond to the region of stretched closed field lines of the magnetotail. The spectra of eigen-frequencies of several basic harmonics of standing Alfven and SMS waves are found in the local and WKB approximation, which are compared. It is shown that the oscillation properties obtained in these approximations differ radically. In the local approximation, the Alfven waves are stable in the entire range of magnetic shells. SMS waves go into the aperiodic instability regime (the regime of the ‘ballooning’ instability), on magnetic shells crossing the current sheet. In the WKB approximation, both the Alfven and SMS oscillations go into an unstable regime with a non-zero real part of their eigen-frequency, on magnetic shells crossing the current sheet. The structure of azimuthally small-scale Alfven waves across magnetic shells is determined.

Eigen problems and eigenmode are important components related to square matrices. In max-plus algebra, a square matrix can be represented in the form of a graph called a communication graph. The communication graph can be strongly connected graph and a not strongly connected graph. The representation matrix of a strongly connected graph is called an irreducible matrix, while the representation matrix of a graph that is not strongly connected is called a reduced matrix. The purpose of this research is set the steps to determine the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the irreducible matrix over min-plus algebra and also eigenmode of the regular reduced matrix over min-plus algebra. Min-plus algebra has an ispmorphic structure with max-plus algebra. Therefore, eigen problems and eigenmode matrices over min-plus algebra can be determined based on the theory of eigenvalues, eigenvectors and eigenmode matrices over max-plus algebra. The results of this research obtained steps to determine the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the irreducible matrix over min-plus algebra and eigenmode algorithm of the regular reduced matrix over min-plus algebra

Abstract Micromirrors are extensively used in MEMS/NEMS based actuators and accordingly the design of superior performance mirror structures are prime requisite in MEMS/NEMS industry. Thermal and viscous damping of a dynamic vibrating micromirror are important factors degrading its performance by inducing energy dissipation. The primary sources of energy losses are viscosity and thermal conduction near the walls of the structure in the acoustic boundary layer. Hence it is necessary to accurately assess the bounds of energy dissipation owing to thermal and viscous damping. In this paper, the depths of the thermal and viscous boundary layers corresponding to thermal conduction and viscous drag at different eigen frequencies are investigated. Both the temperature and pressure distributions surrounding the vibrating micromirror are considered for the analysis. The penetration depths communicate the extent of thermal and viscous boundary layers and clearly indicate the extent of energy loss. In micromirrors, the thickness of boundary layer is a critical parameter since the dissipated energy is mainly distributed in it. The air domain surrounding the micromirror is modelled using thermoacoustics of COMSOL Multiphysics software along with the eigen frequency analysis. In the present study, the thickness of the boundary layers and quality factor are analysed for a micromirror vibrating in torsional mode. The thermal and viscous penetration depths decrease with eigen frequency and hence to develop high quality devices with low damping, the micromirror are verified to be operated at higher frequencies.
