Pełny tekst źródłaInitiated for several decades, the development of the digital technology mark by its deep stamp the minds and the body of our contemporary society. More than a simple social phenomenon, it seems to be generaly agreed that we assist today at a true « anthropological mutation ». Nevertheless, while the analyses of the links between technology and society have been characterized for a long time by some deterministic prospects, we propose to explore in this thesis the dynamic relations which make that a technic is eminently social, and that a society is intrinsically technic. Adhering to a comprehensive approach, this research seeks to highlight the significations and the meaning systems related to the use of digital media tools, at a macro-social and a micro-social scale, to explain causally the importance we ascribed to this specific category of objects. The dynamics at work, both at an individual or collective level, are examinated in a socio-logical way, alternately with an historical, philosophical, economical, political, or socio-cultural point of view. As artefacts-symbols of our present day societies – total social object –, the digital media are the tools upon which we organize the contemporaneity of our relationship with the world : we regard them as a sociological prism from which it possible to grasp the connected society

Pełny tekst źródłaWhile the efficiency of exogenous territorial development is questioned, territorial social innovation has become a rising issue both for researchers and professionals in the field of territorial development. From our point of view, territorial social innovation can be understood as a transformation of territorial governance in favor of citizen initiatives. Though most examples of territorial social innovation occur spontaneously, our concern is to model the innovation process and establish a methodology for territorial transformation in order to make happen this innovation. Our thesis was prepared at the consultancy agency “Le Cinquième Pôle” within the CIFRE industrial research agreement, and aims at elaborating strategies and instruments for territorial innovation. It studies territorial social innovation process and evaluate the potentials of social web for the territorial transformation. Collective action being one of the most important levers for theses transformations, our thesis analyzed the roles of social web in enhancing communities of citizen initiatives leaders and actors at local level. In particular, two cases were studied: Catalyst collective and Brest municipality’s digital strategy. A number of advantages of social web were found, for example, in maintaining weak ties, in sharing resources, in raising awareness and educating actors, in co-creating knowledge etc. However challenges remain, notably the uneasiness of using collaborative Internet devices and the lack of practice in sharing

It aims at improving the understanding of digital platforms' governance decisions and their resulting market outcomes.The first chapter theoretically explores the effect of interoperability on competition between two ad-financed platforms, allowing for endogenous multi-homing of consumers. Interoperability emerges in equilibrium if the value of multi-homers relative to single-homers is sufficiently low for advertisers. This equilibrium level of interoperability is however misaligned with social welfare maximization. In markets dominated by one platform, mandating interoperability between the asymmetric platforms is not always socially optimal.The second chapter empirically investigates the issue of self-preferencing on hybrid platforms, using web-scraped data from the Amazon marketplace. It appears that Amazon makes the visibility of offers of third-party suppliers in the "buybox" dependent on prices on competing marketplaces. Amazon's own offers are however visible regardless of their competitiveness. Furthermore, the absence of seller recommendations makes recommendations to related products more effective and Amazon tends to steer consumers in these situations more often to products it sells itself. Overall, this illustrates how self-preferencing can appear in subtle forms.The last chapter theoretically examines the incentives of hybrid platforms to invest in screening tools to detect and delist illegal third-party products. Whereas platforms engage in screening to the extent that it accommodates entry, more vertically integrated platforms tend to screen less due to the business-stealing effect it induces. Additionally, platforms conducting screening charge higher commission fees to sellers. This strategic complementarity can lead to a negative relationship between platforms' degree of vertical integration and the level of commission fees.These three chapters highlight the complex nature of digital markets and the need for regulatory intervention to be carefully calibrated

Through the example of crowdfunding, we question the relevance of normative ideals structured on autonomy, authenticity, independance and collaboration. This values, onces constitutives of the digital ideology, are now highlighted by the crowdfunding creators and producers. Seen as a tool which can encourage disintermediation, crowdfunding is introduced as a new way of producing and consumming culture. Based on actor's statements, we desribe how those transformations are incorporated by the cultural industry and, widely by a specific« form of life ». This dual mechanism of ideals' recuperation and transformation within them is understood as specific from a highly paradoxical modernity (A. Honneth). Crowdfunding is considered in dialectical way, and lets us see the empowerment process which appears for individuals in the heart of this paradoxes

Pełny tekst źródłaDeeply embedded in our daily lives, digital technology appears as an essential component of our era. In our mind, this phenomenon is largely addressed by marketing research but remains affected by several limits. On the one hand, we notice that most researches focus on a specific technology. This results in a partial approach of practice’s digital shift. On the other hand, we argue that researches approaching digital shift in a larger scope fail to give social thickness to the use of technology. With this in mind, we adhere to the principles of « sociologie des usages » theoretical framework to enlighten the integration of digital devices into shopping practices. In order to face theoretical challenges related to the practice’s digital shift we introduce the concept of digimorphosis in marketing research. Given the diversity of shopping practices, we propose an application of the concept to grocery shopping. In order to position ourselves as close as shoppers, we opt for a qualitative methodological positioning. Here as well, the challenges related to the digital shift require reconsidering the techniques traditionally used to collect data, bring new ones and combines them to enrich our understanding of shopper’s behavior in a connected world. Our analysis leads to the identification of a three axes analytical framework designed to appreciate the digimorphosis of shopping practices: (1) the community axe which address shopping as a collective practice; (2) the spatio-temporal axe which address shopping as a situated practice; (3) the mercantile axe which address shopping as a practice based on value creation

This is the question asked by the Colombian’s Government since the end of the nineties.Seven years after defining the regional strategy eLAC 2007 and twelve years after the signature of the Florianopolis’ Declaration, we open a new way of thinking about the impact of the actions developed by the Colombian’s Government in order to promote the ICT in the micros, smalls and mediums companies between 2000 and 2010.The study of various sources available in this area, together with the achievement of several interviews and the application of a survey instrument, allowed us to define the context and the global issue of the ICT integration in the SME from three points of view such as: the orientation of the Public Policies ICT, the programs’ application, and the scope of the Governments’ strategy.This research’s program helped us to identify the major obstacles in the participation of the SME in the Information Society, and to generate a series of conclusions and recommendations which can contribute to improve the Government’s action. This will give it one more chance to reach the objectives fixed by the National Development Plan

This study shows however that from the beginning of the 21st century print media publishers have been losing money and getting into a spiral of value-destruction so vicious as to jeopardise their very survival. Some are practically bankrupt. Nor is there any sign they will have turned the corner or even be breaking even by 2016 if the industry doesn’t restructure. There are three ways for print media firms to turn this round and regain positive momentum: recapturing market-share, improving their operational freedom and their margins and changing market perception. To do this however they will need to understand and take account of some big and interrelated themes – the ways in which the new uses of data, its ‘history’, its location and its very nature have enriched the value of information itself. They will also need to accept that publishers no longer have a monopoly of information and that they are only a link in a global value chain. To reach this conclusion the study runs a range of scenarios comparing confident short term forecasts and foresights for the longer term, from 2010 to 2020. We find that there will probably be three key stages of constraint, change and restructuring. A few publishers probably will manage to reorganise themselves, reach critical size and create value in this new world. To do so they will have a profoundly new and efficient value-creation ‘equation’, readjusted and differentiated from what has gone before. It is this that will allow them to migrate into and flourish in the new informational paradigm born from this digital universe

More and more employees are required to work in multicultural and remote teams as part of their business activities. These same companies are looking for the best operational performance and the deployment of the Lean approach is a recognised lever for obtaining the best performance in a sustainable manner and has been for decades. In parallel, since the development of the Internet and digital technologies, new tools have become avaible to collect and analyse data or to manufacture. Within companies, while the impacts are often processed separately, it is indeed in a systemic way and at the same time that the cultural dimensions, the deployment of Lean and the implementation of tools linked to the digital era. With the ultimate aim of sustainable performance it is the efficiency of the system as a whole that is at stake. This thesis proposes to review of industrial situations, and to propose an support for the evaluation and consistent implementation of all three elements i.e culture, Lean and digitalization

This diversity reveals an epistemologically productivelink between digital, geographical and informized spaces. This thesis aims to circumscribe and deepen thosearticulated, sometimes divergent, complex dimensions, keys parameters of action and territorial development.Indeed, in the face of the major issues, socio-economic, ecological, societal and multicultural that weigh more orless uniformly today on the world, these dimensions of digital territorial mediation, are essential and necessary tobuild specific development models in which digital is one of the most significant. Moreover the higher the territoriale-mediation obeys a logic of branching, from the global to the local, the more it favors the use of territorial data thatare easy to track, capture, analyze and merchandise by the Data-Broker. This relative homogenization and thisqualitative impoverishment of the numerical data available on the territories, can induce new political normativities,limit the theoretical-practical researches on the social and usages innovations and lead to a numerical cooling of theterritories. This central notion of territorial e-mediation, is a « Boundary Objects » operates in this thesis as a amatrix for interpreting territories from which a theoretical-practical frameworks is designed. This thesis collect,analyse, reference, documents, publications, theoretical works, professional contributions, policies and practices onthis link between digital, geographical and informized spaces that is shifting the centre of gravity of territoriestheorical interpretations, proportionate to mutations and représentations that are facing them. Pełny tekst źródłaWhy fund the deployment of a technology where, due to lack of infrastructure, it cannot physically function properly? If the objectives put forward by the World Bank, at the origin of the launch of the African Virtual University (AVU) in 1997, are to increase access to higher education in Africa coupled with economies of scale, the question arises as to what democratisation is hoped for when the means that should make it possible simply cannot function due to lack of infrastructure. This is evidenced by the failure of the AVU in economic and pedagogical terms (Loiret, 2007), in contrast to its continued development through its transformation into a pan-African intergovernmental organisation in 2002. Based on the concept of 'hypertelia' developed by Gilbert Simondon (1958) to designate the over-adaptation of a technical object in an environment unsuited to its functioning, this doctoral research proposes to understand the launch of the African Virtual University (AVU) as an anticipated introduction of ICTs and digital culture by the World Bank within traditional universities in sub-Saharan Africa, with the objective of commodising higher education. This objective is supported by the transformation of the AVU into an intergovernmental organisation which generates a myth (Barthes, 1957; Simondon, 1958) characterised by the separation of a primary form from its ideological background, which, thus liberated, can be attached to other forms, articulated to other backgrounds, and become a general trend. The AVU thus acquires a reason to be : to constitute a mythical form capable of conveying concepts that are transformed into tendencies in the form of structures

Pełny tekst źródłaEn ce qui concerne l’accès des émissions aux réseaux câblés, la thèse met en avant le besoin de sauvegarder un service public de l’audiovisuel. Celui-ci est défini comme un ensemble des règles qui visent à la fois le paysage audiovisuel propre à chaque Etat membre (par exemple pluralisme) et le contenu des émissions proprement dit (émissions informatives, éducatives, épanouissement culturel etc.). Le droit communautaire primaire et dérivé, tel qu’interprété par la Cour de justice, fournit les moyens de conciliation entre, d’une part les intérêts généraux et, d’autre part, les exigences découlant de la libre prestation de services et de la libre concurrence.
En ce qui concerne l’application des droits intellectuels, la thèse aborde la problématique liée à l’épuisement ou la subsistance de ceux-ci. Dans le cas de la câblodistribution, la Cour a affirmé la subsistance du droit. Cette position est corroboré par la nouvelle directive européenne sur le droit d’auteur et les droits voisins dans la société de l’information. La thèse appuie la position de subsistance en considérant qu’elle constitue une condition essentielle pour la juste récompense des auteurs.
Enfin, la thèse aborde les questions plus spécifiques qui naissent à propos de la convergence technologique et juridique. Tout d’abord, il est avancé que le service public de l’audiovisuel n’est pas uniquement lié à des contraintes techniques, mais essentiellement à des objectifs qualitatifs (contenu des émissions). Ainsi, la thèse plaide en faveur de la pérpetuité du service public de l’audiovisuel dans l’ère du numérique. Par ailleurs, des questions plus spécifiques (comme l’accès à la boucle locale, l’interconnexion des réseaux et la numérisation des infrastructures) ont été examinées.

The thesis is a contribution to the empirical literature that has developed since the early 2000s on the changes introduced by the Internet trade in cultural property. It examines in particular a set of questions on the complementarity or substitution distribution channels, physical and virtual, the effect of the "Long Tail Theory" and price dispersion on the Internet. The interest of this thesis is to provide empirical evidence to the debate, thanks to the creation of databases obtained by automated data capture observable on the Internet. Statistical and econometric results from these studies detail the specifics of best-selling books, CDs and DVDs as distribution channels (Amazon, Amazon Marketplace, physical stores) but also according to their format (paper books / ebooks). Regarding price dispersion, the results show a low variability of prices by sellers of Amazon Marketplace and low impact of traditional measures of reputation (ratings of sellers) compared to the size of the catalog vendors challenging the using of notation as a proxy for reputation
