Pełny tekst źródłaTo improve the user experience in their vehicles, automotive manufacturers are searching for innovative display and control systems, such as devices producing 3D images. Holography is an attractive solution as it can generate 3D scenes incorporating most of the perceptual cues necessary for the human brain. While mass production of "classic" holograms (i.e., optically recorded) for automotive applications has strong constraints, surface relief synthetic holograms are compatible with nano-imprint technology, allowing easy large-scale production. However, the automotive environment imposes additional constraints of cost, system compactness, and eye safety. In this automotive context, the use of LED illumination for holograms is therefore highly preferable to the commonly used laser illumination. We demonstrate an LED illuminated holographic solution that creates the perception of a floating object, targeting an in-vehicle human-machine interface (HMI) application. We also present a statistical study confirming that a large majority of observers perceive the floating 3D scene correctly. Finally, we demonstrate an even more compact extension of the approach enabling simultaneous illumination by multiple distinct LED sources of a single synthetic hologram, generating the perception of floating 3D image

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis is a first step to develop a novel class of coherent but non-lasing light sources in the visible range for automotive lighting and signaling applications. Several theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects have been addressed. Structures combining organic emitters and optical nanoantennas (NPs) have been fabricated to demonstrate, on the one hand, a luminescence enhancement due to the plasmonic resonances of the antennas, and, on the other hand, a signature of strong coupling. Our structures do not suffer from emission quenching despite the fact that the metallic NPs are in direct contact with the organic layer. These results are consistent with the local Kirchhoff law that applies when the molecules of theorganic layer are in the thermalization regime. A finite element model has been developed to study the coupling between an active dipolar medium and plasmonic nanoantennas in a Light Emitting Diode (LED) structure. This model makes it possible to include the nonlinear response of a two-level dipolar active medium in electromagnetic simulations in the frequency domain. Finally, a first OLED (Organic LED) device was also developed, as a preliminary and essential step towards an extended coherent source. A possible follow-up to this work will be to optimize the OLED and insert nanoantennas in its design, so as to transform the structure into a device emitting light in the strong coupling regime and in the presence of a collective state

Pełny tekst źródłaThe complexity of road scenes is often reinforced by the presence of visual parasites, here called "visual noise" (bv) whose repercussions on the driver's perceptual task remain to be defined. At present, most research works on the detection and identification of road signs are based on a new concept : that of "conspicuity". In general, this concept state characteristics of an object making it easily detectable, and, in particular, it corresponds to a given field of vision of the operator. It is probable that a better result of information processing can be obtained by co-ordinating research both on our knowledge of intervention of "conspicuty" characteristics belonging to the the targets and to the environment, on the detecting task and on the width of the functional field of vision thus made available. The main objectives of such an approach are to make recommendations relatives to the design of sites more or less charged with bv offering thus to the driver a greater probability of efficient realisation of visual scanning of road signs
