The final stage of the Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas lies in thecompletion of the curricular internship. This internship represents a first approach to the jobmarket and enables an improvement of the knowledge acquired during the course as well asthe learning of new contents and the development of personal skills essential for the future. The curricular internship I completed involved two phases: Community Pharmacy fromJanuary to April and Pharmaceutical Industry from May to July. The internship reports presented here have been conducted in the form of a SWOTanalysis which provides a description of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threatsthat I have come across during the internship. The pediatric population has very particular characteristics regarding the effectiveand safe use of medicines and other health products. The constant physiological changesassociated with the almost inexistence clinical studies or the lack of appropriate dosagesoften leads to the off-label use of medications or the extrapolation of the data obtained forthe adult population. It is in this context that phytotherapy appears more and more as aviable alternative. Thanks to the knowledge of the use of medicinal herbs and other naturalproducts, and with the support of phytochemical, pharmacological and clinical studies it ispossible to offer effective and safe solutions for the prevention and treatment of somepathologies that affect the pediatric sector.Throughout this work, some plants and other natural products that can be used inpediatrics for the prevention/treatment of pathologies in the respiratory, gastrointestinal andsleep disorders will be discussed.
