With the widespread use of the Internet and its associated technologies, enterprises have to evolve in the way they are conducting business. 'e-business applications' refer to a new class of distributed applications that involves the Internet as a communication platform. Each e-business application supports the full automation of business processes that can span across multiple enterprises. For a given application domain that involves e-business application development, a number of design decisions that best fullfil stakeholders requirements have to be made. One important issue is the reuse of functionality which exists within legacy systems that can belong to one or more enterprises within the same domain. Most existing design approaches are inadequate in supporting the exploration of all design combinations. Moreover, there is little work on how to identify the best design decisions systematically for a given application domain. In this thesis we present a pattern-based approach that addresses the architectural design of e-business applications. We identify a number of architectural patterns whose instantiation on a given design problem correspond to different architectural design alternatives. We also identify models that enable the estimation of quality attributes for such alternatives. Then we investigate and utilise methods to select the best pattern for a given design problem. We also describe the process of generating the alternative architectures, estimating their qualities, and then ranking them with respect to any quality attribute or a combination of quality attributes. We validate this approach on a real life case study in the area of capital markets. The case study concerns realistic e-business applications that rely on existing legacy applications. The validation exercise has produced predictions which have been compared with actual design decisions that have been made. The thesis also proposes a framework for the systematic identification of architectural patterns. An additional set of architectural patterns and their impact on the case study are discussed. The main contribution of this thesis is in the identification of patterns and quality attributes models for the architectural design of e-business applications that aid in the systematic selection of the most appropriate architectural pattern for a given problem context.

To a rapidly increasing degree, traditional organizational structures evolve in large parts of the world towards online business using modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capabilities. For efficient applications of inter-organizational information systems, the alignment between business and ICT is a key factor. In this context, business analysis using business modelling can be regarded as a first step in designing economically sustainable e-business solutions. This thesis examines how business modeling can be used to improve e-business design. We examine how business stakeholder intentions and different objectives of business collaborations can be used to obtain an explorative business model that can be used as a basis for designing e-business solutions. The thesis proposes a set of artifacts for business modeling and e-service design. In regard to business modeling, we propose methods that consider internal aspects such as strategic intentions of actors and external aspects such as business collaborations among them. Considering stakeholder intentions, we introduce a method to design business models based on goal models. A set of templates for designing goal models and a set of transformation rules to obtain business models based on goal models are proposed. To further improve business models considering business collaborations, we suggest a classification of business transactions that considers underlying business objectives of business collaborations. Utilizing the suggested business transactions, we then propose a method to improve business modeling. Finally, we propose a method for designing e-services using business models. The methods suggested support business modelers as well as process and services designers in executing their tasks effectively. The methods have been assessed through applications in two cases.

Architecting e-business applications is a complex design activity. This is mainly due to the numerous architectural decisions to be made, including the selection of alternative technologies, software components, design strategies, patterns, standards, protocols, platforms, etc. Further complexities arise due to the fact that these alternatives often vary considerably in their support for different quality attributes. Moreover, there are often different groups of stakeholders involved, with each having their own quality goals and criteria. Furthermore, different architectural decisions often include interdependent alternatives, where the selection of one alternative for one particular decision impacts the selections to be made for alternatives from other different decisions. There have been several research efforts aiming at providing sufficient mechanisms and tools for facilitating the architectural evaluation and design process. These approaches, however, address architectural decisions in isolation, where they focus on evaluating a limited set of alternatives belonging to one architectural decision. This has been the primary motivation behind the development of the Architectural DEcision-Making Support (ADEMS) framework, which basically aims at supporting stakeholders and architects during the architectural decision-making process by helping them determining a suitable combination of architectural alternatives. ADEMS framework is an iterative process that leverages rigorous quantitative decision-making techniques available in the literature of Management Science, particularly Multiple Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) methods and Integer Programming (IP). Furthermore, due to the number of architectural decisions involved as well as the variety of available alternatives, the architecture design space is expected to be huge. For this purpose, a query language has been developed, known as the Architecture Query Language (AQL), to aid architects in exploring and analyzing the design space in further depth, and also in examining different ???what-if??? architectural scenarios. In addition, in order to support leveraging ADEMS framework, a support tool has been implemented for carrying out the sophisticated set of mathematical computations and comparisons of the large number of architectural combinations, which might otherwise be hard to conduct using manual techniques. The primary contribution of the tool is in its help to identify, evaluate, and rank all potential combinations of alternatives based on their satisfaction to quality preferences provided by the different stakeholders. Finally, to assess the feasibility of ADEMS, three different case studies have been conducted relating to the architectural evaluation of different e-business and enterprise applications. Results obtained for the three case studies were quite positive as they showed an acceptable accuracy level for the decisions recommended by ADEMS, and at a reasonable time and effort costs for the different system stakeholders.

A review of existing literature revealed that little theoretical framework exists to capture e-business-enabled value creation through an integrated approach that includes the environmental view and resource-based view (RBV). Furthermore, little empirical research has been conducted to test these theoretical frameworks, in particular in the Chinese business context. The aim of this research is to extend the theoretical and practical understanding of e-business-enabled sources of competitive advantage (SCA) in China. The value chain (VC) concept, virtual value chain (VVC) framework and RBV were identified from the literature as the key constructs to underpin the theoretical basis. The research design used a qualitative research methodology consisting of indepth case studies of nine leading Chinese companies in three industries - housing development, manufacturing, and B2C. The principle finding is the formulation of a theoretical framework for investigating ebusiness value creations which integrates the key constructs of the VVC, online information capabilities (OIC), value system and RVB. This research also proposes a typology of five generic types of key e-business applications which states clearly the relationships between key e-business applications and SCA. Finally, this research demonstrates that e-business value creation features differently between two groups: Internet pragmatist and Internet pioneers. The research offers a number of contributions to the field of e-business value creation. Firstly, it introduces the concepts of OIC and value system to the VVC. It also provides empirical test of the analytical framework. In addition, this research provides an indepth understanding of the relationships between types of e-business applications and key SCA. Finally, this research identifies and explains the key differences and similarities between the three industries, within each industry, and between the two key groups. i

Netzwerke stellen einen integralen Bestandteil unseres Lebens dar. Eines der wichtigsten Kommunikations-Netzwerke ist das Internet, welches zu starken Veränderungen im Alltag geführt hat. Diese werden in Teilaspekten in der vorliegenden Dissertation untersucht. Insgesamt ist die Dissertation in drei Bereiche unterteilt, welche auf der traditionellen Perspektive der drei Dimensionen von Informationssystemen basieren. Diese Dimensionen umfassen die Technologie, das Management und die Organisation. Im Zentrum der Dissertation steht hierbei die Technologie-Dimension in dessen Rahmen die Struktur und Robustheit des Internets sowie anderer Netzwerke unter Nutzung des mathematisch-methodischen Aspekts der Graphentheorie analysiert werden. Der zweite Teilbereich der vorliegenden Arbeit wechselt die Perspektive hin zum Management. Unter Nutzung von Methoden der prädikativen Modellierung stehen das bessere Verständnis und die Möglichkeit der Vorhersage von Nutzerverhalten im E-Commerce-Kontext im Fokus. Der dritte Bereich umfasst die Organisations-Perspektive aus Sicht der Nutzer. Hierbei werden zwei spezielle Unterbereiche betrachtet. Der erste Unterbereich umfasst Webseiten Sozialer Medien und analysiert wie verschiedene Nutzergruppen diese verwenden. Der zweite Unterbereich befasst sich mit dem Einfluss der weitläufigen Verbreitung von mobilen Endgeräten auf Aspekte des persönlichen und beruflichen Lebens von Individuen. Aufbauend auf diesen drei Dimensionen wurden im Rahmen dieser Dissertation insgesamt 18 Studien durchgeführt, die sich unterschiedlicher methodischer Anwendungen bedienen um wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse zu den vorgestellten Teilbereichen zu erlangen.
Networks constitute an integral part of our lives. One of the most important communication networks is the Internet which led to large changes in everyday life, which are examined in part in this dissertation. Overall, the present dissertation is subdivided into three areas, which are based on the traditional three dimensions of information systems, comprising perspectives technology, management and organization. At the core of this dissertation is the technological perspective, centered on an analysis of the structure and robustness of the Internet network using the mathematical-methodical aspect of graph theory. The second part of the thesis deals with the management perspective. The focus lies on the understanding and prediction of user behavior in the e-commerce context utilizing methods of predictive modeling. The third area includes the organizational perspective from the point of view of users. Here, two specific sub-areas are selected. The first sub-area revolves around social media websites, with the goal of understanding how sub-groups of users utilize them in different ways. The second area is centered around the aspect of how the propagation of mobile devices influences individuals in their personal and professional environments. Based on these three perspectives, a total of 18 studies were conducted within the scope of this dissertation, using different methodological applications to gain scientific insights with respect to the areas examined.

The second part analyzes the global market of e. business qualitative criteria development and application: the United States of America - Amazon's case, UK - Tesco case, Lithuania - GetJar case. The third part analyzes quantitative study,which aim is to identify the e. business concept of quality, the main problems arising from the implementation of e. business, choose the criteria that can be used to measure the quality of the e. business, to distinguish high-quality e. business examples. The work summarizes the benefits of BI usage in online retail and provides an overview of the areas, where BI and Analytics is commonly used. Further, the thesis includes theoretical research with primary focus on business performance evaluation metrics and describes BI market leaders. The performance metrics theoretical research is supported by a survey in a global online fashion retail company that author conducted and summarized. Moreover, a practical design and implementation of a specific real-life BI solution is proposed and presented. The thesis added value is mainly author s proposal of BI solution design and its implementation for a global online retail company, which was successfully deployed as a main BI reporting system of the company. The description includes data integration part, data modelling part and the presentation layer. Thesis includes also practical examples of the outputs based on the final solution. The Internet was functioning on Internet protocol (IP) and transmission control protocol (TCP) in the 1970s and soon afterwards electronic mail (email) was invented allowing messages to be sent from one person to another using packet switch services (PSS). However email did not form an information space for information to permanently exist. The World Wide Web (Web) arrived in the late 1980s, riding on top of the Internet providing a global and persistent information space available to everyone. This information space has assisted in small business facing dramatic change, often referred to as the 'e-commerce evolution'. Compared to the industrial revolution with the advent of the railways and electricity the magnitude of ecommerce is no less. Advances in the information technology (or e-comrnerce elements) and the use of Information systems (or applications) are the main drivers behind this e-commerce evolution. Some authors believe all businesses will be equal in the utilisation of e-commerce eroding any competitive advantage the one may have over the other. The 'digital economy' is now available with the explosive popularity of the Internet and the Web as seminal applications of e-commerce. In South Africa the maturity level of e-commerce adoption has increased from skepticism to positivism since the world wide availability of the Internet. Although e-commerce has generated a profusion of articles in South Africa, there has been a lack of research into the effects and benefits of e-commerce utilisation by small business. Various elements of e-commerce are explored highlighting the suitability of use towards a small business. This stUdy will explain the fundamentals that small business owners will need to understand to enable them to knowledgably participate in the global phenomenon of e-commerce. Authors nationally and internationally have explored the applications of e-commerce for example email and electronic data interchange (EDI).

Over the course of the last few years, the fashion industry hasbegun to focus more resources on their digital transition. For afashion e-commerce business, it is essential to know whether ornot to invest money and time in building a modern webapplication. This master's thesis aims at finding practical resultson how transitioning from a multi-page website towards a SinglePage Application can have an impact on the businessperformances of the company, as measured by ConversionRate, Page Views and Gross Sales. In collaboration with thedevelopment and product team of a fashion company, thismaster's thesis is based on the six-months development of a newSingle Page Application using the Javascript framework React.js,building on known User-Experience Design principles andHuman-Computer Interface heuristics. The live data collectionfrom the website's audience allowed a quantitative analysis ofthe transition's effect on business performance, which showedpositive impact on business performance. A qualitative usersurvey was then conducted in order to further elaborate on thecauses of the aforementioned impact: all respondents praisedthe Single Page Application as compared to the multi-pagewebsite, and noted lower Response Time, efficient filter-andsearchsystem and high user interaction as advantages thatplayed in favour of their browsing experience and their will-tobuya product. The impact of lowering Response Time evenmore was discussed, as well as the different limitations due tothe scope of this thesis. A list of user suggestions for furtherimprovements was also compiled.
Under de senaste åren har modebranschen lagt mer resurser på digital omställning. För en modebutik inom e-handeln är det viktigt attveta om det är värt att investera pengar och tid i en modern webbapplikation. Detta examensarbete syftar till att söka praktiska resultatom hur övergången från en flersidig webbplats till en Single Page Application kan ha betydande inverkan på en modebutik inom ehandelnsekonomiska resultat. Detta examensarbete grundar sig i sex månader av utveckling av en Single Page application för ettfranskt startup-företag inom modebranschen. Applikationen byggdes med Javascript-ramverket React.js. Designen grundas på kändaprinciper inom användarupplevelsedesign och människa-datorinteraktionsheuristik. Den dynamiska datainsamlingen från webbplatsensbesökare användes till en detaljerad kvantitativ analys av övergångens inverkan på de ekonomiska resultaten: Det fanns en signifikantökning på 284% för Conversion Rate. En kvalitativ användarundersökning genomfördes i syfte att undersöka orsakerna bakom dennaeffekt. Alla respondenter svarade att Single Page Application var bättre än den flersidiga webbplatsen. De noterade att lägre svarstid,effektiva filter och söksystem och hög användarupplevelse var viktiga aspekter för deras vilja att köpa en produkt. Effekten av att minskasvarstiden ytterligare diskuterades, så även de begränsningar som finns inom ramarna för det här examensarbetet. En lista medanvändarförslag för fortsatta förbättringar sattes också samman.

The global business environment of today requires companies to be flexible, in order to quickly react and respond to the ever-changing market. Business-to-business application integration (B2BAI) can be seen as a tool which enables companies to stay competitive and it is often regarded by the theory as a must for survival in today’s fierce business environment. Eventhough the employment of a B2BAI strategy can generate a lot of advantages and opportunities for companies operating within today’s global business environment, there are still many challenges and problems to overcome in order to have a successful B2BAI solution.

Based on this we found it highly interesting to see whether the theories positive outlook on B2BAI could be supported by an empirical research. In this essay we have therefore studied and identified the underlying reasons and the contributing factors to why or why not companies choose to integrate externally, from the perspective of IT-consulting agencies. Besides this, a description and an explanation regarding the concepts covered by the field of B2BAI have been made in order to facilitate the understanding for the reader. As our intention primarily was to investigate the reasons behind and the contributing factors to why or why not companies choose to integrate, we chose to make qualitative interviews. This, as we were in need of information which described the course of events and expressed individual opinions, in order to achieve the purpose of the essay. Regarding the selection of research objects for the research, the population consists of all IT-consulting agencies in Sweden. The research has however been delimited to a selection of the population, where the sample consists of three IT-consulting agencies located in Jönköping, with experience of B2BAI.

One of the most interesting discoveries we have made in this research is that the empirical findings agree with the theory in regards of that globalization is a central factor contributing to why companies chose to invest in B2BAI. However, the respondents do not discuss all the advantages of B2BAI mentioned in the theory and emphasize slightly different underlying reasons for choosing to employ a B2BAI strategy. The most central reason for not choosing to employ a B2BAI strategy was according to the respondents due to the lack of knowledge regarding issues relating to the phenomenon and this have not been discussed in the theoretical framework. The challenges with B2BAI stated in the theory, were on the other hand not regarded as issues contributing to not choosing to implement B2BAI. We are under the impression that the advantages and the oppor-tunities with B2BAI carry more weight then the challenges, as the essays empirical findings indicate that the demand for B2BAI today is high and constantly growing.

Business-to-business application integration (B2BAI) kan ses som ett verktyg som hjälper företag att vara konkurrenskraftiga och i teorier som behandlar ämnet beskrivs det ofta som ett måste för att överleva i dagens tuffa affärsklimat. Trots att tillämpandet av en B2BAI strategi kan generera ett flertal fördelar så finns det fortfarande många utmaningar och problem att bemästra för att kunna få en framgångsrik B2BAI lösning.

Baserat på detta fann vi det högst intressant att undersöka huruvida teorins positiva bild av B2BAI kunde stödjas av en empirisk studie. I denna uppsats har vi därför undersökt och identifierat de underliggande skälen och de bidragande faktorerna till varför företag väljer eller inte väljer att integrera externt, utifrån ett IT-konsultföretag perspektiv. Utöver detta ges en beskrivning av och förklaring till de begrepp som kunskapsområdet B2BAI innefattar för att underlätta förståelsen för läsaren. Eftersom vår avsikt huvudsakligen var att undersöka skälen bakom och de bidragande faktorerna till varför företag väljer eller inte väljer att integrera, valde vi att genomföra kvalitativa intervjuer. Detta då vi hade ett behov av information som beskrev händelser och uttryckte personliga åsikter för att kunna uppfylla syftet med denna uppsats. Vad gäller urvalet av undersökningsobjekt består populationen av alla IT-konsultföretag i Sverige. Undersökningen har dock avgränsats till tre IT-konsultföretag belägna i Jönköping med erfarenhet av B2BAI.

En av de mest intressanta upptäckterna vi har gjort i denna undersökning är att empirin överensstämmer med teorin beträffande att globaliseringen är en central bidragande faktor till varför företag väljer att investera i B2BAI. Respondenterna diskuterar dock inte alla fördelar med B2BAI som omnämns i teorin och framhåller delvis andra underliggande skäl till varför företag väljer att använda an B2BAI strategi. Det mest centrala skälet till varför företag inte väljer att implementera en B2BAI strategi var enligt respondenterna på grund av bristande kunskaper beträffande frågor relaterade till fenomenet och detta har inte diskuterats i det teoretiska ramverket. Utmaningarna med B2BAI omnämnda i teorin ansågs emellertid inte vara bidragande faktorer till att inte välja att implementera B2BAI. Vi har fått intrycket att de fördelar och möjligheter som B2BAI medför är av större vikt för företag än de utmaningar och problem som existerar, då uppsatsens empiriska studie pekar på att efterfrågan för B2BAI är stor idag och kon-stant växande.

This research is an innovation business model of e- invoice applications. The business model benefits three parties: enterprises, customers and public interest groups. We analyze the newly developed donation platform of electronic invoices via reviewing related literatures theories of innovation and business model. Taiwan has been using invoices for many years. Customers who hold the invoices would have the chances to win prizes six times a year. However, the environmental protection issue has become more and more important nowadays, it seems that the promotion of electronic invoices by the government is a timely issue. Electronic invoices can reduce the waste of materials, and raise the efficiency of the process. This research is to create a new transaction model as a new application of electronic invoices. As the donation of invoices would decline, therefore we proposed this model trying to solve the problem by considering the interest of all stakeholders.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficiency and effectiveness of e-business applications when used for the creation and delivering of value propositions that the target markets that businesses desire to achieve in the Limpopo Province. The study had three objectives. (1) To identify the e-business applications that can be used in the development of new value propositions for businesses (2) To identify the benefits that the use of e-business applications offers to businesses (3) To determine the relationship between the use of e-business applications and the operational performance of the value propositions. The study was quantitative in nature. Exploratory and descriptive research were utilised to the use of e-business applications by businesses. A sample size of 330 businesses was used. The questionnaire was based on a thorough theoretical basis and a pilot study was conducted to improve the validity. The Cronbach alpha test was conducted to ascertain the reliability of the research instrument. Data was collected through the use of self-administered questionnaires in a survey. SPSS was used for data analysis. The results indicate the e-business applications, the benefits of e-business and the relationship between the e-business applications and operational performance of value propositions. Recommendations to businesses utilise e-business applications so that they are able to create and deliver value propositions in an efficient and effective manner are made.

Manufacturing industries were recognized as the leading industries of Taiwan economic development and the power of our economic growth. Nevertheless, with the progress of high-tech products and variety of consumers' needs, the manufacturing industries have been facing historic challenges and a constantly changing world. To promptly respond to the changing world and tremendous market demand, implementing of e-business applications to enhance operating efficiency and global competitiveness is requisite.   Based on the relative statistics of e-business applications, I made studies of the relationship between manufacturers’ characteristics and e-business applications. The selective characteristics for analyses included: number of employees, business revenues, amount of total fixed assets, four major industries, regions, industrial districts, research and development expenditures, amount of technical transfers.   My studies show some valuable findings. This paper elaborated the findings and the supportive conclusions:  ‧Whether the industry was willing to adapt the e-business technology and the industry’s implementation schedule strongly related to the number of employees.  ‧The research and development expenditures significantly affected the e-implementation degrees.  ‧The demands for human capital on e-business application plainly varied among the four major industries.  ‧How many technical people should be hired heavily depends on the number of total employees  ‧Whether the industry would be short of technical people and e-business technology was strongly relative to its business revenues and amount of total fixed assets.  ‧Whether the industry’s upstream and/or downstream factories would show their low appetite for e-business integration considerably related to the amount of its total fixed assets.

Against a background of the low engagement of SMEs in e-business this paper investigates the emergence of, and potential for, critical e-applications defined as `an e-business application, promoted by a trusted third party, which engages a significant number of SMEs by addressing an important shared business concern within an aggregation.¿ By a review of secondary data and empirical investigation with service providers and other intermediaries the research shows that such applications can facilitate the e-business engagement of SMEs. There are three key findings, namely: the emergence of aggregation specific e-business applications; the emergence of collaboratively based `one to many¿ business models; and the importance of trusted third parties in the adoption of higher complexity e-business applications by SMEs. Significantly this work takes a deliberately provider perspective and complements the already considerable literature on SME IT adoption from a user and network perspective. In terms of future research the importance of a better conceptual understanding of the impact of complexity on the adoption of IT by SMEs is highlighted.

This deliberately dual perspective paper seeks to deepen our understanding of the engagement of SMEs in hosted enterprise applications in the UK. The emergence and development of the ASP sector has attracted much interest and highly optimistic forecasts for revenues. The paper starts by considering ICT adoption by SMEs in general before reviewing the provision of hosted enterprise applications in the US and UK (market perspective). The study is extended by qualitative empirical data collected by semi-structured interviews with SME users of hosted enterprise applications (user perspective) and subsequent analysis in order to develop the key findings and conclusions. From an SME user perspective the key findings to emerge from the study include: i) confirmation that ICT infrastructure was no longer a barrier to adoption, ii) the pragmatic approach taken to security issues, iii) the use of both multiple information systems and multiple service providers, iv) the financial attractiveness of the rental model and v) the intention to continue or extend the use of hosted applications. It also highlights the opportunity for gaining competitive advantage by using hosted enterprise applications to reduce costs. There are very few empirical studies of hosted applications which take deliberately market and SME user perspectives - this paper makes an important contribution in this emerging field.

Por outro lado, o enquadramento teórico é testado em duas redes multicamada reais, de modo a mostrar a validade e significância das medidas introduzidas, capazes de extrair informação importante e não-aleatória sobre tais fenómenos complexos.Os autores analisam os (atuais) 308 municípios portugueses em alguns dos aspetos económicos que caracterizam uma sociedade (trabalho e educação) e os atuais 28 países que compõem a União Europeia em importantes prioridades de políticas de integração europeia tais como o comércio internacional, o investimento direto estrangeiro e os fluxos migratórios e de remessas.Para ambos os cenários nacional e europeu, depois de uma análise individual a cada variável, o método mais adequado para detetar comunidades é implementado numa perspetiva multicamada. The main purpose of this thesis is to emphasise the importance of a multi-layered approach to a network analysis, by applying the most appropriate metrics to two case studies: a territorial network analysis capturing several insights of the Portuguese society and a study identifying the most important and influential leading countries of the European Union.On the one hand, by giving the basis for monolayer and multilayer network analysis, the researchers develop a solid selection of the main concepts and analytical measures, bearing in mind the general structure of different types of networks. On the other hand, these frameworks are tested in two real multilayer networks, showing the validity and the meaningfulness of the introduced measures, as important and non-random information to mine complex phenomena.The researchers analyse all the 308 Portuguese municipalities in some economic features that describe a society (work and education) and the current EU-28 countries composition in important priorities of union policies such as commercial trade, foreign direct investment and migration and remittance flows.For both national and European schemes, after the analysis of each variable, where communities are detected individually, an adequate method is implemented to detect communities under the perspective of a multilayer network. Subsequently, the multilayer outcomes are compared with the monolayer ones. The application of a multi-layered network allows inferring spatial patterns in a way more consistent in comparison to the geographical structure deduced from each network layer taken separately. Under the competitive and fiere E-Commerce environments, companies should raise its product quality by technology improvement as well as its customer-relations maintaining for competitive advantage. In this study, the author investigated the business performance (financial performance) by examining the factors of “customer-oriented Process,” “E-Commerce applications,” “customer satisfaction,” and “business internal performance (non-finanical performance)” from the business process survey. It indicates that the customer satisfaction and business internal performance (non-finanical performance) could be improved by the way of E-commerce applications, operational processes, and customer-knowledge processes. Besides, it is evidenced that the business performance (financial performance) could be improved by customer satisfaction and business internal performance. In this study, the author mentioned that firstly, it is necessary for firms to establish the operational processes and customer-knowledge processesss for customer-oriented processes. Second, business performance will be improved if there is a sound E-commerce and customer-oriented environment.

This master thesis will investigate the freemium business model, raising on the questions: “Why is the freemium business model innovative and what are its success factors?” The aim is to analyse this business model by confronting theory and practice. Therefore, the document begins with a description discussion of the freemium business model. The literature review concludes by determining the success factors of the business model innovation and of the freemium model. The theory in this first part is then compared to practical examples in the second part. Five different cases of the freemium model are discussed with the help of the tools defined previously. The comparison will be made between the theory and the practice, the common points will be highlighted and the differences will be discussed. The information comes from different interviews with the founder or an employee of the company. Important results are the following: 1) for a successful freemium business model the dividing line between the free and premium product must be clearly established, 2) the freemium business model is disruptive because it forces the competition to also have a free offer, 3) the freemium can be a useful tool to enter the market when the value proposition of the offered product or service is not well understood by the market. These observations are in line with the initial aim of the study, which is to identify what makes the freemium model work. The thesis aim at being helpful in the successful implementation of the freemium model.

This research combines two modeling and simulation technologies: System Dynamics of macro-level approach and Multi-agent system of micro-approach, and then applies to the general supply chain management based on the classic Beer Distribution Game. Our approach makes possible the separation of corporate management process into three levels: operational level、managerial level and strategic level, and extends with performance metrics in the modern supply chain industrial framework - SCOR. This method is expected to meet requirements of e-business characterized by network information sharing. Furthermore, from the software engineering viewpoint of system construction in modeling and simulating, we use the Gaia methodology from agent-oriented software engineering, with UML diagrams, and follow the SCOR standard to refine the processes. We then compare codes of the classic Beer Distribution Game program in terms of comprehensibility、reusability、expansibility, to confirm that the approach is suitable for modeling and simulating complex business systems operated with global logistics in the e-business era. With the foundation, we then produce system analysis and implementation of modeling and simulation cases in third-party logistics (3PLs) and supply chain networks, to further test its extensibility and ease of application development. As to applications of system modeling and simulation, we focus on the participatory simulation approach in teaching supply chain management. Based on the differences in targeted supply chain cases, multi-agent models are further equipped with a couple of optional case scenarios. When not enough human players are present to participate and initiate the simulation game, we can allocate versions of intelligent agents to play some designated roles in the scripted scenario. Altogether, participating human players can experience and learn the embedded decision makings and complexity as the simulation game proceeds to its full variations.

The present economical situation in China asks the enterprises to change the traditional transaction style and implement e-business. The most important problems the e-business is facing are: the information confidentiality, the data availability, the data integrity, the user's identity, the non-repudiation of the data's original sender and the legal user, etc. The subject of this thesis analyzes the basic concepts, the security infrastructure and payment system of electronic commerce, makes a thorough and comprehensive research on the security technology, authentication and transaction process, points out some deficiencies in Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) protocol. Then an improved method is given out with the data flow and data structure, finally a secure electronic commerce payment system and its software based on the improved SET model are designed. This thesis brings forward the improved method for improving the speed of transaction, and strengthening the security of protocol and adapting it to any circumstance easily.

The study investigated the use of mobile phones in disseminating information on agriculture to the farming community of Mashonaland West Province of Zimbabwe, with a view to improving the coverage gap created by the available initiatives. Relevant literature on the available and successful mobile phones agricultural information dissemination platforms were extensively reviewed, taking into consideration the Mashonaland West Province farmers’ information needs. Formats, channels and sources currently being used to transmit agricultural information to farmers were investigated. Barriers to the use of mobile phones in transmitting agricultural information were as well investigated. Data was gathered on the farmers’ access to mobile phones and ownership of mobile phones. The survey research methodology was used for data collection because the research involved a large sample in a widespread geographical area. Quantitative research approach was used and questionnaires were used for data collection. The respondents for the study comprised farmers, network providers and other agricultural stakeholders in the province. A sample of 384 farmers, and 13 network providers and other stakeholders participated in the survey. Quantitative data was analysed using the the SPSS software while the little qualitative data which was available was analysed through content analysis. The findings of the study indicated that farmers in Mashonaland West Province of Zimbabwe were willing to get updates on agricultural information via cell phones. However, majority of the farmers could not afford the high mobile data tariffs being charged by network service providers, and the costs of subscription charged by the available agricultural information dissemination platforms. The study mainly recommended that the government should establish mobile phone agricultural information dissemination platforms that can be accessed by farmers for free or that which will charge affordable rates. The study adds to the existing knowledge on how mobile phones can be used in disseminating agricultural information to farmers.

Este projeto insere-se no contexto do mestrado em Gestão, tendo como principal objetivo avaliar a viabilidade de uma aplicação móvel de eventos. A Woozin aparece numa altura, em que as redes sociais têm um papel principal na promoção de eventos, existindo um "gap" no qual a capital Portuguesa precisa de uma resposta urgente - construir uma aplicação para aplicativos móveis, que irá agregar toda a informação dispersa por diversos canais ou que ainda não existe, numa única plataforma de procura de eventos na zona da grande Lisboa. Um dos objetivos principais da Woozin é oferecer a maior cobertura possível, assim como a sua categorização, de uma forma que permitirá aos utilizadores "encontrar eventos que eles nem sabiam que procuravam". Assim, a empresa será criada em Abril de 2018. Dependendo do tempo do projeto, o horizonte temporal de criação da empresa poderá ser antecipado ou atrasado. Independentemente da data, no último semestre de 2017 algumas ações (desenvolvimento da aplicação móvel) começarão a ser iniciadas.
This project was done in the context of a master’s degree in Business Management, with the main purpose to see the viability of a mobile application about events. Woozin appears in a time where social networks have a major role in events promotion, creating a Gap in which Portuguese capital need an urgent response - built an application for mobile devices, who will aggregate all the information that is disperse for numerous information channels or that didn’t exist yet, in one unique search events platform at the great Lisbon zone. One of the main purposes of Woozin is to offer the biggest possible coverage, as well their categorization, in a way that will allow users "find events they did not know they were looking for".

A grande deslocalização de pessoas de áreas rurais para zonas urbanas obrigou à criação de novas e melhores infraestruturas nos ambientes citadinos, de forma a se poder assegurar padrões de qualidade de vida adequados. A criação de cidades inteligentes tem como objetivo melhorar a qualidade de vida das pessoas e do meio que as rodeia, garantido uma melhor resposta dos serviços com que interagem em ambientes citadinos. Os habitantes das cidades costumam tecer opiniões concretas sobre a sua cidade. A possibilidade de recolher e conciliar essas opiniões é muito interessante para quem tem que reger tais ambientes, pois estas podem permitir a identificação de alguns pontos fortes e fracos dos vários aspetos de uma cidade. Com esse conhecimento, um gestor poderá, de forma mais suportada, com informação proveniente dos habitantes da cidade, saber qual o efeito das suas decisões através do recurso a um conjunto de dashboards que incluam índices de bem-estar, conjugando os vários elementos recolhidos e refletindo a apreciação das pessoas sobre a cidade, em tempo real. Os dashboards citadinos, quando dimensionados e implementados de forma adequada, constituem um instrumento importante para avaliação da qualidade de vida numa cidade. Neste trabalho de dissertação, apresentar-se-á a forma como tais dashboards podem ser projetados e implementados, suportados por um caso de aplicação concreta que discutiremos com detalhe.
The large relocation of people from rural to urban areas obligated the creation of new and better infrastructures in the urban environments, in order to ensure adequate standards of quality of life. The creation of smart cities aims to improve the quality of life of people and the environment that surrounds them, ensuring a better response to the services they interact with in urban environments. The citizens of the cities tend to have concrete opinions about their city. The possibility of collecting and conciliating these opinions is very interesting for those who have to govern such environments, as these can allow the identification of some strengths and weaknesses of the various aspects of a city. With this knowledge, a manager can, in a more supported way, with information from the inhabitants of the city, know the effect of their decisions through the use of a set of dashboards that include well-being indexes, combining the various elements collected and reflecting people's appreciation of the city in real time. The city dashboards, when properly dimensioned and implemented, are an important tool for evaluating the quality of life in a city. In this dissertation, it will be presented the way in which such dashboards can be designed and implemented, supported by a concrete application case that we will discuss in detail.

It is designed and implemented by EJB technology with multi-tier e-business architecture. In this report, I will introduce the concepts of e-business and EJB (Enterprise Java Bean) technology which is applied in the project, and its advantage in the current development of distributed component methodology, especially in e-business application design and implementation.

Using information technologies to develop capability is a mean to cope with globalization. However, micro-enterprises in Taiwan have higher penetration and potential, however, as data of DGBAS(Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics) described, but lower penetration of infrastructures and applications of information technologies than small-and-medium enterprises. The purpose of this study is to investigate critical factors of e-business adoption and applications of micro-enterprises, and how to formulate managerial regulations of diffuse e-business of micro-enterprises.   Based on the OTE(Organization, Technology and Environment) theory and Thong(1999)’s research model, four contextual variables including manager characteristics, organizational characteristics, technology characteristics and environmental characteristics are examined in this empirical study. A questionnaire was distributed to 1000 micro- enterprises in Taiwan. The response rate approximates 15.5%. The results of data analysis indicated that that manager’s innovativeness, manager’s attitude toward IT, manager’s IS knowledge, information intensity, relative advantage of IS and cost significantly affect the e-business adoption. Additionally, manager’s IS knowledge, vendor support and government support significantly affect the e-business application. Finally, implications for academics and practitioners are also provided.

Due to the rapid development in information and internet technology, communication means among people have had a revolutionary change. Quantum leap in information technology has made it possible for international and inter-regional control of enterprise activity. This makes e-business implementation a necessary strategy for global enterprises to seek and maintain business advantage. The arrival of knowledge economy, has forced industries to move toward e-business. All businesses need to operate in a rapid speed like the reflex of the nerve system. This is the key factor for the business success in the twenty first century. It has been five years since 1998 when our government started to push for “electronic/internet government”. Currently, Many functions have adopted the e-business and many more others are to do the same in the future. Services have improved in speed, extended in serving hours, and become more available in more locations. At the same time, the costs have also dropped. All these are signs of an efficient government. The seventeen Irrigation Associations are in charge of the irrigation and drainage of 380,000 acres of farm land in Taiwan. To adopt to the arrival of the e-business government and to revolutionize business, it is hoped that by using modern information communication techniques, work efficiency and service quality can be improved and cost reduced.. This study makes literature search and performs a total basic data analysis of the Irrigation Associations. Three separate cases are selected for detailed survey. The survey data are analyzed. Based on the analysis result, the best way to adopt e-business for the Irrigation Associations in Taiwan is suggested. It is hoped that the study results will lead the Irrigation Associations in e-business development and, therefore, making it a very operational effective institution.

This thesis proposes a framework for identifying and assessing generic system dynamics models in business and suggests a list of candidate models. Results are meant to support isee systems, inc. in its aim to make system dynamics more accessible to managers and to further develop knowledge in the field. The main contributions of this study are a) synthesizing the current discourse not only theoretically by a literature review, but also empirically by interviews with experts b) offering concrete steps in form of an operative framework and c) relating problems with the concept of generic models to critical problems in the field. The main limitation of this study is that practical testing of the framework was not possible. Results of the empirical study suggest that the operative framework needs to be further developed because there is substantial disagreement on underlying theories in the conceptual framework. Therefore, the operative steps can only be seen as tentative and as a starting point for further research.

In this thesis, we developed a new, creative business model- Mobile-Buying-Book System. We analysed the current status of book-publishing, and completed the analysis from four perspectives- logistics, sales channels , image identification systems, and Mobil Business System. Also, we integrated the existing mobile value-added service of all the mobile phone companies. Furthermore, we considered the need of publish (or population). This model establishes a new consuming mode between publisher and consumer without any limitation of time and space. By this new model, the consumers do not need to postpone the time for acquiring books. The research targets the main population of consumer with low learning cost, low entry barrier, low technical cost, and low transaction cost, so that this new business model is able to help booksellers reduce the total purchasing cost, opportunity cost from buying cost, and low transferral cost. Instead of establishing a new channel for the publisher, it also help them control the storing cost. This research is carried out by using the Linstone and Turoff method. The results indicate that traditional shoppers are likely or willing to consider the new shopping method when buying books, and this proves that this innovation model is workable and profitable.
