The appearance of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for artists and content providers has ushered in a new era of unexpected opportunities for financial freedom and reimbursement in the digital art business!! This article describes the developmental importance of the NFT markets, which allow artists to sell their products directly to customers, bypassing traditional intermediaries like galleries and auction houses. The first abstract describes the NFT market's exponential growth and demonstrates how it may become a valuable source of income for talented individuals. It is written from two distinct points of view. Digital marketing is a new form of marketing that uses several digital media to spread a message. Influencer marketing is a promising acquisition channel for companies to explore. Engaging with influencers can help a company improve its brand image and stand out in an increasingly competitive marketplace. However, these opinion leaders can influence the purchasing behavior of the target audience. These are individuals with skills in a particular field, using them to create quality content, they are recognized as experts in their field. The content they publish is often in the form of a personalized story incorporating their opinion on a situation, a product or a service. Success lies in establishing a genuine, preferably long-term, relationship between the brand and its influencers. The objective is to rigorously analyze the links and elements that give meaning to this “Influencer marketing authenticity” interaction. As part of this research, we presented a detailed literature review of authenticity and influence marketing.

Unfortunately, the implementation of NFTs is still not accompanied by special regulations governing it. Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright can at least be a reference for its regulation because after all, one of the assets underlying the sale and purchase of NFTs is a work of art which is also protected by copyright. The purpose of this study is to analyze the position and legal protection of digital artworks in the NFT system from the perspective of Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright. This research uses a normative juridical approach method by taking secondary data sources and supporting data in the form of interviews with NFT creators which are then analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that digital artworks in the NFT system have the same position as works of art in general as they are also protected by copyright under Article 40 of Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright. However, there are several aspects in its implementation that are different from the Copyright Law, such as the royalty acquisition mechanism which is not based on a license agreement, but uses a smart contract which has become a default option offered in the NFT marketplace platform system. The NFT marketplace platform and the government exist as parties in charge of protecting copyright law.

Blockchain is a ground-breaking technology that will soon have a significant positive impact on our commercial environment. Non-Fungible Token is referred to as NFT. A digital representation of a real-world item, such as music, art, in-game items, or films, can be referred to as an NFT. They are typically exchanged online using various cryptocurrencies. Different from fungible tokens that are bought or sold on numerous centralised or decentralised exchanges, non-fungible tokens transacted on an NFT marketplace. NFTs are unique. Every NFT has a digital signature that prevents them from being altered for another NFT. Each has a unique value based on a number of variables, including metadata, creator,features, etc. The NFT marketplace, which gives users a platform to create and exchange Non-Fungible Tokens, is meant to be at the centre of all the fantastic use cases for NFTs. The software will be compared to other well-known systems like Opensea, etc., whose major transaction volume is on the Ethereum blockchain network. In this endeavour, we will focus on establishing an NFT Marketplace using the Internet computer. We would interact with the internet computer using Motoko, and the front end of the application would be made with Reactjs.

This study investigates the transformative potential of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) in revolutionizing the marketing of artworks by Malaysian visual artists, with a particular focus on promoting cultural heritage. NFTs, as digital assets secured by blockchain technology, offer artists innovative methods to monetize their creations while preserving authenticity and provenance. Despite their growing popularity, Malaysian artists face challenges such as limited knowledge and skepticism regarding the effective use of NFT technology. This research aims to identify strategies and best practices for incorporating NFTs into digital art marketing, particularly in the context of cultural heritage preservation. Through a combination of content analysis and semi-structured interviews with five experts, this study applies the soft laddering technique to explore the perceived benefits and challenges of NFTs. The findings highlight the significant potential of NFTs to enhance Malaysian artists' access to global markets and strengthen the preservation of cultural heritage. The study underscores the need for improved technological literacy and NFT utilization among Malaysian artists to maximize their presence and competitiveness in the evolving digital art marketplace.

Abstract The EU Regulation on a Single Market for Digital Services (Digital Services Act, the ‘DSA’) is a comprehensive legal framework to regulate digital services and to tackle illegal activity online across the EU. It applies horizontally to online intermediaries operating in the EU, including online platforms such as social media, video-sharing platforms, online marketplaces, and search engines. This book serves as a reference work on the DSA, providing a comprehensive article-by-article analysis that will allow the reader to navigate the provisions of this new, complex legal act. The rise of the platform economy into statelike dominance over the lives of entrepreneurs, users, and workers. The early Internet was a lawless place, populated by scam artists who made buying or selling anything online risky business. Then Amazon, eBay, Upwork, and Apple established secure digital platforms for selling physical goods, crowdsourcing labor, and downloading apps. These tech giants have gone on to rule the Internet like autocrats. How did this happen? How did users and workers become the hapless subjects of online economic empires? The Internet was supposed to liberate us from powerful institutions. In Cloud Empires, digital economy expert Vili Lehdonvirta explores the rise of the platform economy into statelike dominance over our lives and proposes a new way forward. Digital platforms create new marketplaces and prosperity on the Internet, Lehdonvirta explains, but they are ruled by Silicon Valley despots with little or no accountability. Neither workers nor users can “vote with their feet” and find another platform because in most cases there isn't one. For decades, there has been broad consensus within antitrust, intellectual property, and consumer law scholarship that consumers make decisions in their own best interests by consciously weighting the market’s relative prices, quantities, and qualities against each other. That consensus is unraveling in light of novel findings from cognitive and social psychology that explain how individuals’ concepts of what they prefer drive the global economy. At the same time, producers nowadays no longer merely satisfy consumers’ needs but also communicate their values, identities, and aspirations through the sale and marketing of products. As part of the growing interest in observations such as these, a wealth of psychological studies challenge the fundamental teaching of economics that the interplay of demand and supply of goods in a free market economy provides us with material wealth. This book provides a normative defense of that assumption and a theoretical framework for understanding its contradictions. It argues that the erosion of consumer sovereignty through the ability of product manufacturers and sellers to systematically take advantage of individuals’ psychological weaknesses demands a twenty-first-century reconceptualization of the consumer and a modern account of how the law should regulate the digital economy. Such an account is justified to ensure a diverse marketplace in which consumers can influence how our societies are structured and arranged. By examining the role that market manipulation plays, it offers ingredients for a realistic descriptive and normative market regulatory theory that is aware of its political economy, its behavioral suppositions, and its distributional consequences.

AbstractUser is one of the most important stakeholder cluster and its participation can link the end of life and early stages in the life cycle of each product when considering the adoption of a circular business model. This chapter presents the main elements of the customer engagement, as identified through a State-of-the-Art analysis carried out in the context of FENIX, as well as those electronic tools in which they will be integrated together with conventional tools for the conduction of commercial activities and the tools to facilitate the interaction with the other actors and activities of FENIX within a single access point digital platform (FENIX Marketplace). The SoA analysis identified the motivational factors that promote a greater customer engagement for the participation throughout all business routes (B2B, B2C but also C2C) applicable in the project. These strategies are improved and enhanced using benefits provided by the social media for the participation in the process. The customer involvement is directly linked to the motives provided within FENIX Marketplace.

AbstractRural areas encompass an abundance of cultural and natural heritage that offers great potential for attracting tourism. Nevertheless, many of these regions are neglected and deserted, facing many hard problems like limited job opportunities, poverty, low literacy rates, and a lack of basic infrastructures. In order to deal with these problems, we need to boost sustainable development by promoting participatory methodologies, engaging all interested stakeholders (public authorities, tourism organizations, cultural and creative industries, local communities, marginalised social groups, etc.) in novel co-creation of new touristic products and services (including real, digital or hybrid experiences). Using effective local and remote stakeholder engagement strategies as well as by adopting modern ICT technologies for developing high added—social, educational or economic-value products and services is a key element for boosting cultural tourism in such areas. In this paper, we first review recent state of the art practices and methodologies for Sustainable Cultural Tourism (SCT) in rural areas based on participatory approaches and modern ICT technologies. The proposed methodology first brings together all relevant key stakeholders to form hybrid (both real and online) communities (“SCT Innovation Hubs, SCTIHs”). We then formulate a concept for the establishment of a multi-disciplinary and cross-sectoral co-creation ecosystem for SCTIHs, based on (a) a participatory platform for consultation, decision-making and business model canvas creation, (b) a set of easy-to-use advanced smart apps/configurators to facilitate co-creation of new engaging hybrid cultural tourism products and services and (c) a digital marketplace to distribute these products, ensuring a fair distribution of profits for the co-creators and facilitating evaluation and identification of best practices. The main contribution of this study is to identify current challenges for SCT in rural areas and attempt to meet them by proposing a bottom-up and inclusive ICT-based methodology for co-design and co-creation.

AbstractThe emergence of Bitcoin and its underlying blockchain technology have enabled novel solutions for creating, transacting, and validating digital assets. Inspired by these developments, a variety of project teams have been building blockchain-based “decentralized” business models (BDBM), marketplaces, and organizations. However, ambiguity and confusion exist around the meaning of “decentralized” in the context of blockchain technology-based business models in both research and practice. Moreover, the implications of BDBM’s mainstream adoption from a mass customers’ perspective are insufficiently understood. This article discusses and develops a two-dimensional framework explicating the notion of decentralization in BDBM. Based on this typology, the article analyzes the implications, prerequisites, and desirability of decentralization for BDBMs’ mainstream adoption.

The current web of centralized social media clouds delivers by design a winner-takes-all digital economy that stifles innovation and exacerbates power asymmetries between citizens, governments, and technology oligopolies. To fix the digital economy, we need a new, decentralized web where citizens are empowered to own their data, participate in disintermediated peer-to-peer marketplaces, and influence policy-making decisions by means of innovative applications of participatory and deliberative democracy. By reimagining “web 3.0” as a cloud commonwealth of networked virtual machines leveraging blockchains and sharing code, it is possible to design new digital business models where all stakeholders and participants, including users, can share the bounty of the Fourth Industrial Revolution fairly.

AbstractIn this chapter, we look at individuals’ sharing practices and focus on their experiences concerning food waste and thrifting online via social platforms. We discuss their orientations, desires, and motivations for participating in the circular economy, and in doing so, we explain how consumption choices and lifestyles are powered by consumer commitment to ecological thinking, awareness, and responsibility. We identify what these practices are, explain what fuels them, and discuss how these will be meaningful for the future. This chapter comprises two sections: We first look at sustainable consumption practices today, situating this within the context of three case studies. We cover the interplay between technology and the value of goods, particularly during the pandemic; for example, by looking at the transformation of food ‘waste’, (what should in principle end up in the dumpster, enabling the practice of dumpster diving) and its commodification and exchange in the Too Good To Go market. We also offer some discussion on the qualitative methods employed in collecting the data. Finally, we conclude this chapter with a discussion on the implications of our study findings for future sustainable practices and policies in the digital marketplace of tomorrow’s consumers.

AbstractThis chapter highlights the historical, current, and emerging trends on the borderless market for ODDE. The rate of growth of the global market for ODDE is unprecedented. Both the public and private sectors are capitalizing on the seemingly limitless opportunities to expand educational offerings and the innovative delivery of ODDE. In the twentieth century, there is evidence of distance education using media formats such as television and delivery of course material through correspondence programs. With the development of the computer and internet, the depth and scope of the ODDE market in the twenty-first century is changing every day. As venture capitalists seek new financially lucrative opportunities and alternative learning formats open doors for those who otherwise may not have had access to learning opportunities, questions and concerns remain. The digital divide (access and inequality), quality assurance, regulation, privacy, and security remain central to areas of concern in the ODDE marketplace. Despite these concerns, across all educational sectors, the forging of partnerships within and across borders is enabling reskilling and upskilling of the labor force and advancing the conservation on how to improve transparency and protect vulnerable populations of current and future learners.

Data marketplaces are expected to play a crucial role in tomorrow’s data economy but hardly achieve commercial exploitation. Currently, there is no clear understanding of the knowledge gaps in data marketplace research, especially neglected research topics that may contribute to advancing data marketplaces towards commercialization. This study provides an overview of the state of the art of data marketplace research. We employ a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach and structure our analysis using the Service-TechnologyOrganization-Finance (STOF) model. We find that the extant data marketplace literature is primarily dominated by technical research, such as discussions about computational pricing and architecture. To move past the first stage of the platform’s lifecycle (i.e., platform design) to the second stage (i.e., platform adoption), we call for empirical research in non-technological areas, such as customer expected value and market segmentation.

Data marketplaces can fulfil a key role in realizing the data economy by enabling the commercial trading of data between organizations. Although data marketplace research is a quickly evolving domain, there is a lack of understanding about data marketplace business models. As data marketplaces are vastly different, a taxonomy of data marketplace business models is developed in this study. A standard taxonomy development method is followed to develop the taxonomy. The final taxonomy comprises of 4 meta-dimensions, 17 business model dimensions and 59 business model characteristics. The taxonomy can be used to classify data marketplace business models and sheds light on how data marketplaces are a unique type of digital platforms. The results of this research provide a basis for theorizing in this rapidly evolving domain that is quickly becoming important.

Meta-platforms have received considerable Information Systems scholarly attention in recent years. Meta-platforms enable platform-to-platform openness and are especially beneficial to amplifying network effects in highly-specialized markets. A promising emerging context for applying metaplatforms is data marketplaces—a special type of digital platform designed for business data sharing that is vastly fragmented. However, data providers have sovereignty concerns: the risk of losing control over the data that they share through metaplatforms. This research aims to explore antecedents and consequences of data sovereignty concerns in meta-platforms for data marketplaces. Based on interviews with fifteen potential data providers and five data marketplace experts, we identify data sovereignty antecedents, such as (potentially) less trustworthy data marketplace participants, unclear use cases, and data provenance difficulties. Data sovereignty concerns have many consequences, including knowledge spillovers to competitors and reputational damage. This study is among the first that empirically develops a pre-conceptualization for data sovereignty in this novel context, thus laying the groundwork for designing future data marketplace meta-platform solutions.

Data Marketplace Meta-platforms (DMMPs) federate the fragmented set of data marketplaces and are expected to become a pivotal instrument to realize a single European Data Market in 2030. However, one critical hindrance to foster the adoption of business data sharing via DMMPs is data providers' risk of losing control over data. Generally, the literature on interorganizational data sharing has highlighted that data governance mechanisms can help data providers to retain control over their data. Nevertheless, data governance mechanisms in the DMMP context are yet to be explored. Therefore, this research aims to design data governance mechanisms for business data sharing in DMMPs by employing the Design Science Research (DSR) approach. This study contributes to the literature by identifying root causes and consequences of losing control over data and defining prescriptive knowledge regarding design requirements, design principles, and a framework for designing data governance mechanisms within the novel setting of metaplatforms.

Abstract The effects of elemental sulfur on the corrosion of mild steel is a serious problem in the oil & gas industry costing millions of dollars annually in lost production and assets. Mitigating the corrosive effects of elemental sulfur on mild steel in the oil and gas industry is a challenge and finding a viable solution would provide a more cost effective and safer working environment and as well as be environmentally conscious. Currently, there are no highly effective products for elemental sulfur corrosion in the marketplace. More than fifty new chemical formulations were blended and screened by rotating cylinder electrode method (RCE). These formulations were tested in the presence of 0.1% elemental sulfur in mildly sour conditions. The promising candidates were identified and tested again in the presence of elemental sulfur under the same mildly sour conditions. The most promising candidates from the initial screening were then subjected to rotating cage autoclave (RCA) testing for extended periods of time in the presence of 0.1% and 0.15% elemental sulfur. The general corrosion rates were calculated via weight loss and the metal surfaces were examined under a high-power digital microscope for pitting and localized corrosion. A detailed analysis of the above testing yields promising results. The results from the testing show that formulations mitigate pitting in environments containing elemental sulfur. In less harsh conditions, such as low chloride brines or low CO2 environment, formulations seem to provide excellent protection against general corrosion while mitigating pitting due to elemental sulfur. In more extreme environments such as harsh brines with elevated chloride levels, high hydrogen sulfide and CO2 levels, the formulations mitigate pitting but need further development in inhibiting general corrosion The best product currently developed inhibits corrosion and pitting in the presence of elemental sulfur in various conditions and performs well against elemental sulfur in more aggressive sour systems. We are currently improving the performance against elemental sulfur and developing chemistries to mitigate polysulfide induced corrosion in sour systems. This paper describes the development of effective inhibitors for corrosion and pitting in the presence of elemental sulfur under sour conditions. This study focuses more on pitting corrosion due to the corrosive characteristics of elemental sulfur than on uniform general corrosion. The general corrosion with the selected inhibitor was highly mitigated and was less than 3.0 mpy while yielding excellent protection against sulfur induced pitting.

Abstract We are now living in what has been described as the Experience Era, where lines between the digital and physical are increasingly blurred. As such, we are just beginning to see how customized access to space will improve asset stewardship in ways that are still evolving, as customization of on-orbit technology pushes the bounds of how we receive and process information. Specific to oil and gas operators, one technology being launched by microsatellite, hyperspectral imagery (HSI), is poised to enable unparalleled daily global pipeline leak prevention, detection and speciation, intrusion and change detection capabilities. This will replace conventional DOT pipeline patrol for compliance while contributing to our understanding of vapor emissions as regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency. This paper discusses both the evolving space marketplace and the state of the art for HSI, including current examples of hyperspectral findings regarding pipeline and terminal leaks. Successful deployment of HSI will drive a decrease in the number and magnitude of pipeline leaks using persistent, global, high-resolution data collection, rapid and reliable analysis, and immediate reporting of actionable information. For decades, satellite HSI technology has offered a promise of remote hydrocarbon detection and other features of interest. It is only now becoming scalable, accessible to, and cost-effective for the pipeline industry, and thus a reality for cost-effective pipeline stewardship.

The digital age has brought significant changes in the way organizations operate and compete. As a result of rapid technology development, many organizations are undergoing a digital transformation to stay relevant and competitive in the marketplace. This literature review aims to find future research topics by providing an overview of the current state of research on organizations in digital transformation (ODT), especially on malleable organization design and HRM aspects. The article begins by defining digital transformation (DT), and then examines how organizations change during DT, before delving into the perspectives of malleable organization design and HRM. Finally, it concludes by identifying gaps in the literature and suggesting a research agenda for future. Overall, organizational factors that need more investigation are highlighted to tackle complexities of ODT for further research.

The literature on innovation has been very prolific in highlighting the importance of companies developing new products, processes or business models in order to be more competitive in the marketplace. Empirical studies have shown that this innovative activity has translated into superior results for companies that have engaged in innovation. However, most of these initiatives have been studied mainly from the company's point of view without considering the contribution that academia can make to these innovation processes. This paper explores precisely how it is possible to achieve better results in innovation objectives through industry-academia collaboration (IAC). To this end, a sample of 7638 Spanish companies is analysed, distinguishing between those that have linked their innovation objectives to collaboration between the company and higher education centres. The results reveal that this IAC helps reinforce innovation objectives, demonstrating that the union of the academic and business worlds improves the results of business innovation processes. This has important theoretical implications as it offers new insights into the analysis of innovation processes and business implications as it proves that there is a need to develop platforms that encourage IAC.

This study presents a rapid assessment of the adoption of digital technology in Philippine agriculture and its implications for smallholder farmers. Modernization of agriculture, a perennial goal in agricultural policy, is increasingly linked with digital technologies, as outlined in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) and underscored by Industry 4.0’s transformative impacts on markets, trade, and manufacturing. Digital agriculture offers significant potential benefits, including enhanced productivity, market access, and sustainability. However, it also presents the risk of exacerbating the “digital divide,” potentially leaving vulnerable rural populations further behind. The assessment explores the current application of digital technologies in agricultural value chains, the prospects for further adoption, and whether these technologies are benefiting the most vulnerable farmers and fisherfolk. Findings reveal that while certain digital agriculture components like advisory apps and online retail networks are widespread, others remain in early development or at prototype stages. Government priorities and stakeholder interests (farmers, fisherfolk, agribusiness companies) suggest promising prospects for expanding digital agriculture tools, including decision support systems and online marketplaces. The study also identifies strategies to bridge the digital divide, such as community organizing, development of rental markets, and investments in rural connectivity. Key policy recommendations include harmonizing government data and advisory services, creating a single government portal for digital agriculture, integrating digital solutions into farm management, expanding decision support for diversification and climate resiliency, and establishing a centralized e-commerce platform. Emphasizing the importance of government-led initiatives, the study advocates for exploring public-private partnerships to enhance the commercialization and accessibility of digital agricultural technologies.

So much of our daily business can be done with a swipe or a mouse click. Citizens have come to expect and rely on a certain amount of convenience in their daily lives as technology evolves to suit real-time individualized experiences of the marketplace. Those same expectations of ease of use and customized experience transfer to the citizen experience of government. In general, government is not moving as quickly as the private sector to embrace technology trends. Yet, there are promising examples of digital government where the citizen is at the center of the process. Embracing these emerging technologies helps us move toward a more digital government, forging a new relationship between government and citizen. This paper describes the successes and challenges of governments in organizing systems around citizen needs, with the goal of achieving a "single view of the citizen." It focuses on public-facing systems and those that handle transactions in the service of citizen needs, rather than internal sharing of information for transactional purposes. Implementation recommendations draw on successful case examples. While there is much room for improvement, this paper makes the case that creating citizen-oriented systems in government is a worthwhile and achievable aspiration.
