Streszczenie:
The relationship between depression and stressors and the relationship between depression in children and depression in their parents were investigated. Depressed children aged 7–11 years (n=20) were compared with clinical non-depressed children (n=88) and normal children (n=55). Children, mothers and fathers in the three groups were tested. Measures included the Children's Depression Inventory, Recent Life Events Scale, Stressor Scale and Beck Depression Inventory. The findings showed that children and mothers in the depressed group reported more stressors than other children and other mothers while fathers of children in the depressed group did not report more stressors. The findings also showed that mothers of depressed children were more depressed than mothers of normal children while there were no differences between the scores of fathers in the three groups.

Streszczenie:
We studied the intergenerational impact of parental unemployment on the socioeconomic status of children. We used data from the Finnish depression of the 1990s, one of the deepest depressions in the history of OECD countries. We compared the impact of parental unemployment of children aged 12-18 during both a period of economic growth and a period of depression. We used ISEI status to measure social status when the children reached the age of 30. We used propensity score matching to analyse the high-quality Finnish register data, comprising 15991 children. Our results show a negative association between parental unemployment and children’s later socioeconomic status that is not significantly lower when parental unemployment occurs during a depression. The association is partially driven by the duration of unemployment during the depression. Our results underline the importance of providing support to families that experience parental unemployment during eras of both depression and growth.

Streszczenie:
The article provides up-to-date scientific data on the clinical phenotype of depression in children and adolescents that were exposed to significant psychological trauma as a result of hostilities, terrorism, natural disasters, abuse, physical and sexual violence. The review presents the latest data on the prevalence of depression due to various traumatic factors, comorbidity of mental and neurological disorders, possible mechanisms of their relationship, treatment recommendations. Post-traumatic depressions (PTD) are widespread in children and adolescents and negatively affect the quality of life and significantly increase the risk of suicide and self-harming behavior. The presence of depression worsens the prognosis of post-traumatic stress disorder, the treatment response. Several psychotherapeutic interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and eye-movement desensitization, are effective in the treatment of PTD. Psychopharmacological drugs, in particular antidepressants and mood stabilizers, have limited proven efficacy in PTD in pediatric practice. The use of these drugs in comorbid mental and neurological conditions has a higher level of evidence. Conclusions. Depression in children and adolescents due to psychological trauma remains an understudied topic. Future research should focus on the efficacy of pharmacological approaches to the treatment of posttraumatic depression and comorbid mental and neurological disorders, which is especially important for countries with low access to specialized psychotherapeutic care.

Streszczenie:
Objective: To examine the relationship between depression in children and adolescents, parental depression and parenting stress. Methods: Fifty-three depressed youths, 9-16 years, were matched for age and gender and compared with S3 non-depressed controls. Depression was diagnosed using the Diagnostic Interview for Children and Adolescents-Revised (DICA-R). Parents completed questionnaires on depression and parenting stress. Results: Parents of depressed children reported higher parenting stress and were more likely to perceive their children as ‘difficult’. Univariate analysis demonstrated a relationship between children's depression and maternal depression but not with paternal depression. This became non-significant with multivariate analysis, implying that maternal depressive symptoms may have been due to caring for a depressed, thus ‘difficult’ child. Conclusions: Depressed youth were more likely to be perceived by mothers as ‘difficult’ and caused them significant parenting stress. The same phenomenon did not occur among the fathers. Clinicians need to consider the presence of depression among ‘difficult’ children and look for early depression in mothers of depressed youth.

Streszczenie:
Depression in childhood and adolescence is still less well known than depression in adults. The term "childhood and adolescent depression" for depression in childhood and adolescence was not used until 1966 and was studied in these age groups mainly by psychoanalysts, psychiatrists and developmental psychologists. Unfortunately, the results of their research are not homogeneous, but they show that it increases with age. Juvenile depression is a separate symptom that includes mood disorders, behavioral disorders, anxiety and self-destructive behavior. It differs from adult depression in terms of its course, and it lasts shorter and has a duration a different psychopathological picture. In the article, the available literature was reviewed and, based on the results obtained, the problem was developed in division into sections: epidemiology, etiopatogenesis, clinical grounds, socialmedia and depression.

Streszczenie:
Pre-pubertal depression has attracted a great deal of interest recently. The literature is reviewed with a particular focus on the better designed studies. While isolated symptoms of depression are relatively common, definite depressive disorder is much less prevalent. The majority of studies have focused on the most severely depressed subgroup of children. While effective treatment regimes are being developed for this small group of children, there is no evidence that such regimes should be applied to every depressed child. Major gaps exist in our knowledge of the range of depressive symptomatology in pre-pubertal children, the relationship of developmental factors to depressive symptoms, the reliability and validity of existing diagnostic tools, and the effectiveness of traditional child psychiatric treatment modalities for depression.

Streszczenie:
The assessment of childhood depression is a function of the definition of depression, namely, a single-symptom, symptom cluster, or categorical approach. Furthermore, the assumptions associated with these approaches underpin the development and selection of assessment devices which fall into three main categories: self-report measures, parent, teacher and peer reports, and diagnostic clinical interviews. In describing, exemplifying, and evaluating these measurement techniques, their relationship with the definitional assumptions will be demonstrated through a critical review of the literature. The related and crucial issues of comorbidity and informant variability will also be examined.
