Streszczenie:
The article notes that in the staffing of activities in Russia in various fields, including in the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation (hereinafter, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation), a number of problems that have a negative impact on the course and results of official activity remain relevant. One of them is to increase the effectiveness of professional psychological selection for service in the Department of Internal Affairs, one of the aspects of which is to study the motivation of professional activity of candidates for service in the Department of Internal Affairs and employees of the Department of Internal Affairs on a gender basis. This is due to demographic factors, the predominance of the female population, both in society as a whole and in power structures. Professional motivation is reflected in personality traits. When conducting professional psychological selection for service in the Department of Internal Affairs, it is important to evaluate the professional important psychological components and features of the motivational sphere of the individual, which act as an internal prerequisite for the success of the formation of professionalism, professional growth of police officers. They should correspond to the objectives of the activity being carried out. It should also be noted that there are more and more women entering the service in the Department of Internal Affairs and being employees of the Department of Internal Affairs. In this connection, we analyzed the gender characteristics of the motivation of professional activity in relation to candidates entering the service in the Department of Internal Affairs, as well as current employees, dividing them into groups based on gender. The purpose of the study: to identify gender characteristics of motivation of professional activity, similarities and differences in motivational attitudes in men and women. The object of the study is the motivation of professional activity. The subject of the study is the gender characteristics of the motivation of professional activity of candidates entering the service in the Department of Internal Affairs, as well as current employees of the Department of Internal Affairs. Research methods: theoretical analysis of psychological literature on the research problem; empirical methods of socio-psychological research (survey method; interviewing; testing of candidates entering the service in the Department of Internal Affairs, as well as current employees); statistical methods of processing the data obtained; analysis of the results of the study. 100 people took part in the survey: 50 candidates for service in the Department of Internal Affairs (25 men and 25 women) and 50 active employees of the Department of Internal Affairs (25 men and 25 women). The results of the study allowed us to conclude that there are no significant differences in the structure of motivation of professional activity in men and women. These results "destroy" the prevailing stereotypes that the profession of "policeman" is rather male and does not suit women. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that the results obtained can be used by psychologists of moral and psychological support units in order to further improve the system of professional psychological selection of candidates for service in the Department of Internal Affairs and employees appointed to higher positions from among the positions of managers (chiefs).

Streszczenie:
The article examines the stereotypes associated with the already existing and well - established gender roles in modern society- the distribution of certain official duties between persons of different sexes. The analysis of distinctive features of male and female management styles is given. The author notes that despite the existence of the job description, according to which the head performs his functions, his style of work always bears a unique imprint of his personality. The research urgency is caused by the fact that the study of the dependence of the management style of the head of the police Department from its gender features will formulate ways to improve the management efficiency of the heads of the police Department. The object of the study is the management styles of the heads of the Department of Internal Affairs. The subject of the study is the influence of the gender characteristics of the heads of the Department of Internal Affairs on the choice of management style. Research methods: analysis and systematization of scientific and psychological literature on the subject of research; general scientific methods of cognition (theoretical analysis, generalization, synthesis); monitoring; testing of heads of divisions of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation; statistical methods of processing the received data. The respondents were the heads of departments of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in the number of 42 people, including 24 men and 18 women. The scientific novelty of the study is to expand, supplement and clarify the scientific views on the dependence of the management style of the head of the Department of Internal Affairs on his gender characteristics. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that the results obtained can be used by psychologists of moral and psychological support units, teachers of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, in order to further develop and improve the system of psychological support for the heads of the Department of Internal Affairs.

The article is based on documents stored in the State Archives of the Almaty Region (Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan), Fund 489, Op. 1: «Documents of the Semirechye Regional Department for National Affairs» (1918–1919) «, highlights the activities of the Regional Department for National Affairs in the early years of Soviet power in Semirechye (Zhetysu). The department, establised in November 1918, was at that time the only body connecting the Muslim population with the Soviet regime and protecting it in the difficult conditions of the Civil War and social changes. This was the period of the so-called “Colonial revolution”, when the “proletarian” government lobbied for the interests of the Russian population (including the Cossacks and the wealthy peasantry), ignoring the interests of the impoverished (“proletarian”) Muslim population. The Soviet government treated the Muslims, who were mostly nomadic and semi-nomadic population, as the «dark masses». The article argues that the Regional Department for National Affairs acted as a defender of Muslims during ethnic conflicts caused by the anti-colonial uprising of 1916 and its aftermath. The department defended the Muslim, primarily Kazakh and Kyrgyz, population from the new government, which the Muslims perceived to be genuinely Russian. The main directions of the Regional Department’s work related to the protection of the indigenous population are considered: 1) general legal assistance; 2) assistance in the settlement of interethnic conflicts; 3) aid to the starving people; 4) assistance and protection during the mobilization of Muslims for agricultural and public works; 5) assistance to Kazakh women in trouble; 6) helping Muslim children; 7) the fight against the Russification of office work; 8) upholding the special position of the nomads and explaining the essence of the nomadic economy to the Russian leaders of the region.

In Queensland today, a class action is being considered against the state government to recover and return to Aboriginal control, cash and assets which were acquired from Aboriginal earnings by the Aboriginal affairs department over a period of 60 odd years. In the process of three years' research into the workings of Queensland's Aboriginal department I have accumulated a range of information relevant to this matter. This summary provides a historical context within the constraints of incidental material which was available to me. I will canvass two separate, but interlocking, issues: the department's control of wages and savings accounts; and the government's handling of the trust funds built up from the accumulated, and compulsorily acquired, earnings of thousands of Aboriginal men and women.

AbstractObjective:Food insecurity is associated with numerous adverse health outcomes. The US Veterans Health Administration (VHA) began universal food insecurity screening in 2017. This study examined prevalence and correlates of food insecurity among Veterans screened.Design:Retrospective cross-sectional study using VHA administrative data. Multivariable logistic regression models were estimated to identify sociodemographic and medical characteristics associated with a positive food insecurity screen.Setting:All US Veterans Administration (VA) medical centres (n 161).Participants:All Veterans were screened for food insecurity since screening initiation (July 2017–December 2018).Results:Of 3 304 702 Veterans screened for food insecurity, 44 298 were positive on their initial screen (1·3 % of men; 2·0 % of women). Food insecurity was associated with identifying as non-Hispanic Black or Hispanic. Veterans who were non-married/partnered, low-income Veterans without VA disability-related compensation and those with housing instability had higher odds of food insecurity, as did Veterans with a BMI < 18·5, diabetes, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Prior military sexual trauma (MST) was associated with food insecurity among both men and women. Women screening positive, however, were eight times more likely than men to have experienced MST (48·9 % v. 5·9 %).Conclusions:Food insecurity was associated with medical and trauma-related comorbidities as well as unmet social needs including housing instability. Additionally, Veterans of colour and women were at higher risk for food insecurity. Findings can inform development of tailored interventions to address food insecurity such as more frequent screening among high-risk populations, onsite support applying for federal food assistance programs and formal partnerships with community-based resources.

The first class 1 treatment trial ever conducted in multiple sclerosis (MS) was a Veterans Administration Cooperative Study. This led us to explore MS in the military–veteran populations of the United States in three main series: Army men hospitalized with final diagnoses of MS in World War II, all veterans of World War II and the Korean Conflict, and veterans of later service up to 1994. In each series, all cases had been matched with pre-illness military peers. These series provide major information on its clinical features, course and prognosis, including survival, by sex and race (white men and women; black men), as well as risk factors for occurrence, course, and survival. They comprise the only available nationwide morbidity distributions of MS in the United States. Veterans who are service-connected for MS by the Department of Veterans Affairs and matched with their military peers remain a unique and currently available resource for further clinical and epidemiological study of this disease.

AbstractBy using the League of Nations and United Nations as case studies, this article identifies the women working at the diplomatic level in the Irish Department of External Affairs (D.E.A.) in the period 1923–76. Drawing on gender analysis, the article assesses where men and women were positioned in Irish diplomacy and asks if the role of women in the D.E.A. was shaped by a gendered viewpoint. It argues that there were more opportunities for women within the United Nations than the League of Nations and it questions if these increased diplomatic opportunities were reflective of women's changing status within the D.E.A. in the period under investigation. Overall, the article offers a new perspective on the conduct of Irish foreign policy between 1923 and 1976.

Climate change presents a considerable threat to human security, with notable gender disproportions. Women’s vulnerability to climate change has implications on agro-based livelihoods, especially the rural populace. The primary purpose of this study was to assess women’s vulnerability to climate change and the gender-skewed implications on agro-based livelihoods in rural Zvishavane, Zimbabwe. A qualitative approach that used purposive sampling techniques was adopted. Data was collected through 20 in-depth interviews with 11 de jure and 9 de facto small-scale female-headed farmer households. Two focus group discussions with mixed de facto and de jure small-scale female-headed farmer households were also conducted. Five key informant interviews were held with departmental heads of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development; the Agriculture Technical Extension Service Department; the Livestock Production Department; the Runde Rural District Council and the Meteorological Services Department. Gendered effects were noted in terms of increased roles and responsibilities for women. Observations showed that there was an increase in distances travelled by women to fetch water owing to a depleted water table. Climate-induced migration of men due to depleted livelihoods in rural areas has also increased roles and responsibilities for women. The traditional male responsibilities assumed by women included cattle herding and ox-driven ploughing. This study concluded that adaptation strategies towards vulnerability to climate change have to be gender-sensitive and area-specific. This study also recommended that response programmes and policies meant to curb existing gendered vulnerabilities should be informed by evidence because climate-change effects are unique for different geographical areas. Moreover, adaptation activities should be mainstreamed in community processes so as to reduce the burden on women and increase sustainability opportunities.

The aims of the new water policies and laws of post-apartheid South Africa are to contribute to the eradication of the country's widespread poverty and to redress historical race and gender discrimination with regard to water. After placing these policy and legal changes in a historical context, the paper discusses their operationalization and impact during the first years of implementation. Three key aspects are highlighted. The first aspect concerns internal changes within the implementing government department, the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF). The second aspect regards water services and sanitation directly targeted at poor women and men. Lastly, the paper discusses the emerging equity issues in public participation processes, as an illustration of the new approach to integrated water resources management.

The Haqqah movement that emerged from the Naqshbandi order gave women a position they had not previously enjoyed in Kurdish society, as it worked to give them a completely different social and religious role than what was present in the prevailing social milieu. The status of women increased even more when the leaders of the movement allowed them to attend religious and social meetings and express their opinion on the various issues raised in these meetings. Then they reconsidered how girls are married off and women are treated as commodities to be bought and sold. Not only that, but they also gave women a place in the movement's religious affairs department. The movement worked to redefine some social values, helping to create a kind of gender equality and giving women belonging to the movement a stronger personality than their counterparts in traditional Kurdish society. On the other hand, social and religious actors in the Kurdish social milieu have criticized the movement and downplayed its social reforms, as a stark departure from the prevailing social traditions.

Exclusive breastfeeding rate in Palu City has decreased in the last three years from 59.9% (2018) to 57.8% (2019) and 52.42% (2020). Work caused failure to provide exclusive breastfeeding among women. This study aims to explore the efforts of government institutions to support exclusive breastfeeding among civil servants in Palu City, Central Sulawesi. This study applied a qualitative approach, constructivism paradigm, and phenomenological strategy. The study subjects were selected according to the study objectives, which involved the main informants namely the heads of health department; women's empowerment and child protection department, education department, employment department, social affairs department and head of the Religious Office. In addition, there were key informants, namely civil servants with babies aged <12 months who had breastfed or were currently breastfeeding. The number of study subjects was considered sufficient when the coding results and data categories obtained were saturated. Triangulation was carried out towards the Mayor of Palu. Data were collected through in-depth interviews based on interview guides. All interviews were recorded using an audio recorder. The main instrument in this study was the researchers. Ethical Clearance letter Number: 0042/KEPK-KPK/V/2022 dated June 7, 2022 was issued by the Ethics Commission of Palu Health Polytechnic. The results revealed that breastfeeding rooms in the workplace were not yet available for breastfeeding women; there was no reduction in working hours for breastfeeding women, the workload for breastfeeding women was the same, and there was no specific support or motivation from the leaders, and no one had ever provided rewards. Furthermore, the triangulation towards the Mayor of Palu revealed that he promised to make a Regional Regulation (PERDA) that women who exclusively breastfeed will be given leave for 6 months. It can be concluded that the government institutions had not provided support for civil servants to perform exclusive breastfeeding. To achieve the target of exclusive breastfeeding, the government must support exclusive breastfeeding.

Informants in this study were representatives from the Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the Office of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, as well as women in the fishing area of Bila Hilir. The research location is Bilah Hilir Village, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra Province which is one of the fishing villages with the community's economic level far below the poverty line. The results showed that low income caused many fishermen's children to drop out of school, and become entangled with moneylenders. The government's lack of attention to developing the fishermen's economy has made women in this fishing area just give up. This study concludes that there has been no empowerment carried out by the Labuhanbatu Regency government for women in the Bila Hilir fishing area.

This article highlights the activities of women of the Khorezm region in the ranks of the army and on the battlefield during the Second World War. The author points out that, along with all the republics of the USSR, the Uzbek SSR was also involved in the war, cite the number of people mobilized to the front from the Uzbek SSR, and then focus on those who went to war from the Khorezm region. The article cites as an example the courage of Khorezm women of different nationalities who served at the front and received ranks. The names of women from Khorezm who went to war and did not return, as well as information about them are given. In the article, the author refers to unpublished materials (archival documents of the Department of Defense Affairs of the Khorezm region, books of registration of participants in the war, accounting records). The author covers the topic in detail using documents from the archival fund of the Khorezm Defense Department, which have not been introduced into scientific circulation. These documents provide preliminary information about the activities of women who went to war from Khorezm. Analyzing the documents, the authors identified the names of about 350 women who left the region for the war. They prove the erroneousness of the information given in the studies conducted in Uzbekistan until 2020, that 47 women from the region took part in the war. Also, as a suggestion, in order to immortalize the memory of these women in the heroic struggle against fascism, the necessity of creating new works of fiction, films, plays together with multi-volume Books of Memory, monographs, brochures is substantiated.

The technique of collecting data by interview, observation, and documentation, while the technique of interactive data analysis. The results showed that the DP3AKB Sidoarjo Regency has been effective in dealing with the number of violence in Sidoarjo Regency. However, this effort still lacks support from the people of Sidoarjo. Many reports of violence against women and children have come in. This reflects the lack of public awareness of the meaning of gender equality which is the goal of the Sidoarjo DP3AKB itself. In addition, in implementing the program, there are still many obstacles ranging from time and budget constraints from Covid handling orders which resulted in the suboptimal implementation of activities.

In response to the topic of Global Justice and Human Rights: Country Case Studies, I will discuss the origin and continuation of violence against Native American women in the United States. In a report named Maze of Injustice: The Failure to Protect Indigenous Women from Violence by Amnesty International, the organization deemed the current status of violence against indigenous women one of the most pervasive yet hidden human rights abuses. The U.S Department of Justice has found that Native American and Native Alaskan women are 2.5 times more likely to be raped or sexually assaulted. During an International Expert Group Meeting discussing Combatting Violence Against Indigenous Women and Girls, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs declared it a human rights issue of epidemic proportions. One in three Native American women are raped and three in five are physically assaulted. In reference to interracial violence, four out of five Native American victims of sexual assault reported that the perpetrator was white. Unfortunately due to the shame and stigma surrounding topics such as sexual assault and rape it is estimated that in reality these numbers are far higher. Scholars and historians of pre-colonial Native societies have found that during this period women held prominent positions and violence against women was rare. With colonization came a radical change to the role of women in Native society. Gender based violence and the exclusion of women in important positions was a powerful tool used by British settlers to dismantle the structures of native society and ultimately conquer it. Presently, due to the inadequate legal power given to Indian nations the crisis is not being dealt with efficiently. For example, Indian nations are unable to prosecute non-Indian offenders. In my discussion of violence against Native women in the United States I will begin by analyzing its colonial origins. Next I will discuss why this violence persists today with reference to laws and judicial processes. Finally, I will discuss what must be done to end these human rights abuses.

Background Women veterans have a high prevalence of traditional and nontraditional risks for cardiovascular disease (CVD) including obesity and posttraumatic stress disorder. Experts from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs have called for actions to improve the cardiovascular health of this population. One approach is to assess women veterans’ barriers to care-seeking for CVD prevention, to inform future intervention research. Objective The objective of this study was to describe women veterans’ barriers to care-seeking for CVD prevention, guided by the theory of care-seeking behavior and concept awareness. Methods Using a cross-sectional, descriptive design, a national sample of 245 women veterans participated in an online survey about barriers to care-seeking. Participants provided narrative responses to open-ended items, endorsements to closed-ended items, and rankings of their top five barriers. Researchers conducted poststratification weighting of numerical data to reflect the women veteran population. Results Narrative responses described unaffordable and inaccessible services, feeling harassed or not respected in healthcare settings, and lack of awareness of risks for CVD. Frequently endorsed barriers were unaffordable and inaccessible services. Frequently ranked barriers were feeling not respected in healthcare settings and clinicians not recommending CVD prevention. Discussion Findings support concepts in theory of care-seeking behavior and concept awareness. Understanding women veterans’ barriers to care-seeking for CVD prevention can inform clinicians and researchers as they address these barriers.

AbstractPreconception care (PCC), defined as a set of interventions to help women optimize their health and well-being prior to pregnancy, can improve pregnancy outcomes and is recommended by national organizations including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Women Veterans who use the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system may face elevated risks of adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes due to a high prevalence of chronic medical and mental health conditions as well as psychosocial stressors including sexual trauma history and intimate partner violence. Many women Veterans of childbearing age experience poverty and homelessness, which are key social determinants of poor reproductive health outcomes. Furthermore, racial/ethnic disparities in maternal and neonatal outcomes are well documented, and nearly half of women Veterans of reproductive age are minority race/ethnicity. High-quality, equitable, patient-centered PCC services to address modifiable risks in this population are therefore a priority for VA. In this article, we provide a brief background of PCC, discuss the health risks of Veterans associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, and highlight VA initiatives related to PCC. Lastly, we discuss implications and future directions for PCC research and policy within VA and across other health systems.

Introduction. The relevance of the research topic is due to the weak elaboration in the works of modern historians of the problem of participation in civil service in the Russian Empire at the beginning of the twentieth century of representatives of non-Orthodox Christian denominations (Mennonites and Molokans). Methods and materials. The article presents correspondence of the Main Directorate of Posts and Telegraphs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Empire on the issue of admission to the postal and telegraph service of Molokans and Mennonites in 1909–1914. This set of documents reflects the practical implementation of the principle of freedom of conscience in the Russian Empire during the period of gradual abandonment of civil rights and freedoms declared in the course of the Revolution of 1905. The documents also record the transformations that took place in the worldview of Mennonites and Molokans. The research uses historical-comparative, problem-chronological methods, methods of archeography and historical source studies. Analysis. The purpose of the article was to identify the attitude of state bodies to the admission to the civil service (on the example of the postal and telegraph department) of candidates from among sectarians (Mennonites and Molokans) after the revolution of 1905–1907. An active liberal reform of the Russian religious legislation there was in 1905–1912. However, the religious factor continued playing a role in entering the civil service. The documents reflect the negative attitude towards the admission of sectarians (primarily Molokans) to the civil service of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Department for Foreign Confessions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They focused on the anti-state tenets of the Molokan creed. The management of the Main Directorate of Posts and Telegraphs in 1914 decided to ban Molokans from taking positions in the postal and telegraph department. It is noted that in the Mennonite ethnoconfession, a revision of the attitude to family and marriage, to the role of women, to civil service begins. Molokans at the beginning of the twentieth century also rejected some tenets of faith, in particular, pacifism and denial of the state oath. Authors’ contribution. O.Yu. Redkina identified and prepared archival documents for publication, conducted a historical source and archeographic description. T.P. Nazarova considered the transformation in the worldview of Mennonites and Molokans at the beginning of the twentieth century, their attitude to civil service, to the position of women in the family and society.

Abstract Older women Veterans have a high burden of comorbid medical and mental health conditions and may be particularly at risk for co-occurring insomnia and unhealthy alcohol use. Some research suggests rates of both increased during the COVID-19 pandemic; however, few studies extended beyond pandemic year one or examined administrative data. Using Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) electronic health record data, we examined rates of insomnia (diagnoses, prescription insomnia medications) and unhealthy alcohol use (diagnoses, positive alcohol screens) in a national sample of women Veterans aged 50 years and older (N=239,638) prior to and during the pandemic (March 2018-2022). During this timeframe, insomnia rates increased across age groups. Annual insomnia rates were highest among women ages 50-59 (12.8-14.9%) and lower for women age 60 and older (6.2-12.1%). The annual rate of unhealthy alcohol use was also highest among women ages 50-59 (13.9-15.3%) and lower for women age 60 and older (5.4-12.9%). For the youngest and oldest age groups, rates of unhealthy alcohol use decreased annually until 2021 and then increased; for women aged 60-79, rates increased except in 2020, when rates declined. The proportion of women with both conditions in a given year ranged from .5-2.9% and was highest at younger ages and lowest at older ages. Together, results indicate annual rates of insomnia and unhealthy alcohol use during COVID were highest in midlife women but increased over time across ages, signaling a potential need for intervention and prevention efforts aimed at addressing sleep health and alcohol use across mid-late adulthood.

Sexual health and sexual expression can be controversial topics at any age. Ageism in Western society makes this discussion, as it pertains to the elderly, even more taboo because sexual health is not usually a focus for healthcare providers serving the geriatric population (Bauer et al., 2015). However, sexual rights are human rights fully acknowledged by the World Health Organization, through its Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health (2021). The ability to fully express one’s sexuality is part of the human experience across the lifespan and any barrier to this expression will have an impact in one’s quality of life. Considering this, how do elderly women transitioning to long-term residential facilities (assisted living or nursing homes) rate their sexual health and their opportunities to express their sexuality? This presentation will describe the current state of affairs in these facilities as it pertains to services and supports related to sexual health, how residents rate the current sexual health related services and support, and current barriers to services that are more person-centered, dignified, and respectful of older people’s sexual expression, with specific emphasis on the LGBTQIA+ aging population.

"Ruang Rindu" is a website administered by the Department of Social Affairs and Empowerment of Women and Family Planning in Banyuwangi Regency. It serves as the focal point for various social programs. The services offered cover both offline and online reporting and consultation. Consultation can be conducted in person at the department's office or via WhatsApp for online consultations. This dual consultation service setup allows users to choose the method that suits their needs best. However, there are challenges with both offline and online consultations. Offline consultations often face issues with queues and waiting times, while online consultations raise concerns about user privacy and data security on WhatsApp. To address these challenges, the UI/UX design team at "Ruang Rindu" utilized the design thinking approach to develop and enhance both offline and online consultation features. The research resulted in the creation of six interface designs. Through testing and analysis using the MAUS (Maze Usability Score) method, a score of 80 was achieved, indicating moderate usability. Similarly, the SUS method yielded a score of 69.25, suggesting a moderate level of user experience. Overall, the "Ruang Rindu" website was found to be acceptable to the public. Key areas explored in this research include UI/UX, Design Thinking, MAUS, and SUS.

We included all women and a random 10% sample of men who were VA enrollees, ≥65 years old as of January 1, 2004, and alive through December 2007. We used difference-in-differences models with propensity score weighting to examine changes in medication acquisition between 2005 (before Part D was implemented) and 2007 (after Part D implementation) for veterans who were or were not Part D enrolled. Of 231,716 veterans meeting inclusion criteria, 49,881 (21.5%) were enrolled. While 30-day medication supplies decreased from 26.2 to 23.4 for enrolled veterans, they increased from 36.6 to 37.4 for nonenrolled veterans (difference-in-differences: −4.0, p < .001). Reductions in 30-day supplies were greater among veterans who were required to pay VA copayments for some or all medications and who used VA and Medicare outpatient services.

Objective. Studying the vector of managing the organizational culture of the Russian internal affairs bodies during the COVID-19 period.Background. The work is aimed at studying the vector of managing the organizational culture of the internal affairs bodies through the formation of new “pictures of the world” and mental states of police officers as a result of the socio-psychological impact of information flows about COVID-19. Our earlier results of a longitudinal study from 2011 to 2019 made it possible to assert that the vector of development of the organizational culture of the Internal Affairs Directorate depends on the media, capable of creating new “pictures of the world” and influencing the formation of mental states of police officers, which are different from those desired and proclaimed by the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs when reforming the Internal Affairs Directorate in 2011. We believe that the scale of this socio-psychological phenomenon clearly manifested itself during the COVID-19 pandemic and the totality of the corresponding informational influence of the media, which determines the vector of managing the organizational culture of the internal affairs bodies.Study design. Against the background of the identified dynamics of social fears, mental states and the locus of control among police officers for the period of 2020 and 2021, their “picture of the world” was studied using multivariate factorial and cluster analysis.Participants. 335 police officers tested in both 2020 and 2021. Of these, 231 are men and 104 are women, 25 to 49 years old.Measurements. Author’s questionnaire on the degree of involvement in the content of the news and information tape about COVID-19; questionnaires: “Social fears” L.N. Grosheva; “The level of subjective control” by E.F. Bazhin and others; method for determining the dominant state of DS-8 L.V. Kulikova; author’s modification of C. Osgood’s semantic differential.Results. From the beginning of COVID-19 to mid-2021, ATS officers showed tendencies of a decrease in the level of subjective control and interest in the content of news about COVID-19, with the dynamics of the growth of the experience of social fears and the growing instability of mental states. organizational culture of the Department of Internal Affairs formed two types of employees. The first type with a trustful “picture of the world”, and the second with a threatening “picture of the world”. This polarity of the “picture of the world” in different types indicates a crisis in the functioning of the organizational culture of the internal affairs bodies.Conclusions. The long-term and intensive unstructured influence of the media in the context of negatively colored information about COVID-19, manifested in the dynamics of the growth of social fears and the heterogeneity of the policemen’s “picture of the world”, shows that the police department’s leadership is not fully the subject of changing the management vector of the organizational culture.

Introduction: Development of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) image-generating skills requires residents to practice on patients awaiting care in the emergency department (ED) for unrelated reasons. While patients are almost universally agreeable to the scans, there is the possibility that they feel pressured to do so and may have negative experiences that go unreported. The objective of this study was to determine the self-reported patient satisfaction and identify any concerns after educational ultrasounds performed in the ED. Methods: We conducted a survey of patients at a single academic ED. Patients were eligible for enrollment if they had volunteered for an ultrasound when study personnel were available. The survey was administered by a representative from the Patient Affairs Department who advised the patients that the results would remain anonymous and would have no impact on their care. The survey included patient demographics, questions about the consent process, communication by the trainee, adverse reactions and patient satisfaction. The primary outcome was the overall satisfaction level reported by the volunteer patients on a 5-point Likert scale. Secondary outcomes included identification of any discomfort or concerns about the process as expressed by patients. Simple descriptive statistics were used to report survey results. Results: Ninety-nine patients fully completed the questionnaire. Fifty (50%) were women. The age range was 18 to 99 years. Satisfaction among volunteers was high, with 94% of respondents giving a rating of 4 or 5 (five being an excellent experience). No patients gave a negative rating (1 or 2). Three (3%) patients felt “somewhat” pressured to volunteer. A majority of patients (72%) experienced no discomfort during the scan however 16% experienced some physical discomfort. Comments indicated that too much pressure applied with the ultrasound probe or cold ultrasound gel were the main sources of discomfort. Despite some discomfort 95 (95%) patients stated they would likely volunteer again if asked in the future. Conclusion: ED patients volunteering as models for residents learning POCUS expressed generally positive perceptions of their experience. While only a small minority of patients experienced some discomfort or felt pressured into participating, it is important to ensure that patients have a process to communicate any concerns about educational ultrasounds in the ED.

The salience of justice-involved military veterans endures as a pervasive social problem in the United States of America (USA). Since the 1980’s the percentages of Justice-Involved Veterans (JIV) have varied from a reduction in Vietnam to increasing numbers of Global War on Terror (GWOT) veterans (Bureau of Justice Statistics Report, 2015). In response, there has been a proliferation of magistrate diversion, correctional specialty units, Veterans Treatment Courts (VTC) and programming for JIV. Much of the progress is due to concerted identification and organizational sharing of resources. The USA Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), courts, corrections and non-profit organizations (NPO) provide a valuable service to our military men and women to remediate the JIV needs. Social work plays at critical in practice areas at the penal, VA and NPO systems in the USA. The JIV population are examined through the lens of social work practice, resource dependence theory (RDT), case example and future direction. The examination highlights the importance of internal and external resources and partnerships to meet organizational goals and to remediate JIV psycho-social problems.

Compensation is an essential benefit provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for veterans with service connected conditions, which are illnesses or injuries incurred or aggravated during military service. The purpose of this paper is to inform beneficiaries, program administrators, policy makers, and the general public about key developments in the VA compensation program. Based on findings from publicly available data as well as recently published papers, this paper identifies key topics that have future implications for veterans receiving compensation for service connected conditions. These topics include (a) increases in the number of veterans, the combined rating for service connected conditions, and expenditures for compensation, (b) increases in the number of women veterans with service connected conditions, (c) service connected mental health conditions, (d) the use of VA health care by veterans with service connected conditions, (e) premature death in veterans with service connected conditions, and (f) veterans with a combined 100% rating. We hope these questions will be considered by all parties who value this critical program for veterans with service connected conditions.

The study attempts to understand the socio-economic and living conditions of Muslim communities with an emphasis on the livelihood and status of women living in slums located in the old city of Hyderabad. To this end, it collected information 2,354 households of 19 slums using the qualitative and quantitative data gathered from their residents. Using this, this report looked closely at the policy framework and institutional capacity of the state for the socio-economic development of Muslims. Evidence culled from a review of documents and reports, interviews with government department officials and field observations hinted at improved institutional performances, thanks to initiatives such as the creation of Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) in 2006 and the relaunching of the Prime Minister’s 15-Point Programme with an emphasis on educational opportunities, employment and economic activities and living conditions. However, the analysis and findings of this study still identified several institutional incapacities in terms of gaps between development needs and policies especially in the context of marginalised and poor communities.
