PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to shed light on the relationship between organizational commitment (OC) and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) as mediated by employee engagement (EE). The impact of different facets of OC (affective, continuance and normative) and EE (alignment, affectiveness and action-orientation) is examined with respect to OCB.Design/methodology/approachInsights from the literature underpin the hypotheses on how EE mediates the relationship between OC and OCB. Primary data using survey questionnaire were collected from 881 permanent employees of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in India. Hayes' model 4 has been used for the mediation analysis.FindingsThe analyses show that only one facet of OC- affective commitment and the alignment and action-orientation dimensions of EE positively affect OCB. The relationship between OC and OCB is fully mediated by EE.Practical implicationsThe results imply that engaging employees is pivotal for effectively fostering citizenship behavior among employees. Organizations should be willing to implement strategies and interventions which enhance the emotional experience of employees to foster a sense of belongingness with the organization and engage them.Originality/valueThe paper draws on a unique data set of a prestigious organization in India to provide insights with substantial degree of generalizability into the relationship between OC, OCB and EE, whilst applying a comprehensive definition of these constructs. It is the first study to examine the inter-relationship among different facets of these constructs.

Abstract The effect of proximity to a transit system on property values has become a key issue of debate regarding public infrastructure and economic development. This article aims to examine the impact of selected stations along the Blue line of Delhi Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) on commercial property prices. The research analyzed 1,413 commercial property parcels sold before and after the commissioning of Blue line in 2005. Hedonic Price Analysis (HPA) was used to estimate the effects of proximity to the metro rail on commercial property values. The method was applied to two time periods, i.e., from 2000-2004 and 2005-2008, coinciding with planning and construction (pre-commissioning phase and the operation phase (post-commissioning phase) of metro rail using actual sale prices of commercial units. The results indicate that a station node shows a negative trend during the planning and construction period. However, the operation period has produced a significant price premium associated with commercial properties, connected with improved accessibility. The coefficients indicate that MRTS has induced an increase in prices from INR 732.80 to INR 246.19, and its radius of impact covers an area of approximately 1/2 km from the stations. The methodology and results provide insight with a specific focus on commercial real estate values in other metropolitan cities developing and expanding MRTSs.

<em>There is growing recognition of the importance of Last Mile Connectivity (LMC) to mass transit systems. In the context of Delhi, albeit a shift can be seen in the provisioning of LMC, and despite previous studies indicating that more than 50% of metro rail users walk to and/or from metro stations, yet the seriousness with which pedestrian environment is woven into transit planning is lacking.</em><br /><em>The paper is based on an empirical study conducted by the author, of approximately 800 samples of metro users surveyed across seven stations of Delhi Metro, representing different station typologies, ridership and locational contexts. The paper focuses on the “walk” choice of users across a variety of factors related to their socio-economic strata, trip characteristics and station context. A parallel study is conducted to audit the pedestrian environment within one kilometre distance around each station. The paper further attempts to investigate whether pedestrian environment affects user choice of opting for “walk” as the last mile choice. It also ranks the performance of the case stations in terms of various attributes of walkability.</em><br /><em>In conclusion, the paper contends that overall walkability environment offered to transit commuters is crucial in the share of walk trips for last mile commute and the distance commuters are willing to walk. It recommends that walking as LMC choice needs to be promoted through enhanced user experience in absence of which a significant amount of last mile travel will happen through unsustainable mechanised modes.</em>

Abstract: A metro rail system is more preferred type of metro system due to ease of construction and also it makes urban areas more accessible with very less construction difficulty. metro concept is very easy to transport large numbers of people and transportation. In metro city like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai is very populated city An elevated metro system has two major elements pier and box girder. The codes are now moving towards a performance-based (displacement-based) design approach, which consider. All the information are given by MMRC and considered the data value in this design as per the target performances at the design stage. Which is located to ShyamNager metro station in Mumbai, The present study focuses on pier of an elevated metro structural system conventionally the Double Decker pier of a metro bridge is designed using a force based approach. During a seismic loading, the behaviour of a single pier elevated bridge relies mostly on the ductility and the displacement capacity. It is important to check the ductility of such single piers. Force based methods do not explicitly check the displacement capacity during the design. The codes are now moving towards a performance-based (displacement-based) design approach, which consider the design as per the target performances at the design stage. Performance of a pier designed by a Direct Displacement Based Design is compared with that of a force-based designed one. The design of the pier is done by both force based seismic design method and direct displacement based seismic design method the study.

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC and Delhi Metro-Rail System (DMRS) are two important public transport systems in Delhi. The DMRS has been attractive in respect to ridership but in 2015 it has shown a decrease in its ridership. It has also been found that ridership of the bus service, the most important public transport system for the poor in Delhi, has decreased over time whereas the numbers of private vehicles have recorded phenomenal increase resulting in traffic congestions and pollution problems in the city. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of the fear of crimes along with other reasons for decreasing trends in the usage of public transport in Delhi. The study is based on people opinion and perception for which 350 persons were interviewed with the structured questionnaire from ten transit places having varied socio-economic conditions. Fear of crimes within buses/coaches is considered an important reason for not using public transport in western countries but as per this study, the same is not true in the case of Delhi. Role of fear of crimes along with other factors was verified with the spearman’s correlation coefficient. The weak negative correlation has been found between the preference to public bus services and the fear of crimes; the crowing; the unavailability. It indicates that along with these other factors are equally responsible for the choice of public transports in Delhi.

Understanding the influence areas for transit stations in Indian cities is a prerequisite for adopting transit-oriented development (TOD). This study provides insights into the last mile patterns for selected Delhi Metro Rail (DMR) stations, specifically, Karkardooma, Dwarka Mor, Lajpat Nagar, and Vaishali, and the extent of the influence area based on different access modes. The variation in the extent of the influence areas based on various modes and the locational characteristics of stations have been considered in this study. The last mile distances reported in the conducted survey involved the problems of rounding and heaping, and they were subjected to multiple imputation to remove the bias. The spatial extent of the influence areas for various modes was estimated based on the compound power exponential distance decay function. Further, the threshold walking distances were calculated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The variations were noted in the last mile distances among stations. The walking distances (mean and 85th percentile) among stations did not vary considerably; however, large variations were noted when comparing other modes. These differences in accessibility must be taken into account when considering multimodal accessibility and multimode-based TOD. The study can provide useful inputs for planning and implementing TOD in New Delhi.

Abstract. To make transit rail services more attractive, the preferred public travel mode and serve as the backbone of any metropolitan area, there arises a need to create a sustainable and inclusive urban environment with access to all. This study aims to map the pedestrian permeability and impermeability by categorizing roads and streets around identified transit nodes in Noida as public, private and non-accessible by all. By doing so, the study identifies very distinct and spatial divisions like gated communities and urban villages that have emerged as social ghettos in the planned city Noida and thereby, devoid it of being an inclusive city. Initial metro station smart android-based mobile surveys were done across 12 elevated metro stations falling on the blue transit corridor line connecting Delhi with its satellite town Noida using smart apps namely ODK and Kobo Toolbox with the analysis done in QGIS. It was found that trip distance and time had a strong association with walking while age, gender and purpose of the trip had no association with walking to the metro station. Most transit users living within one-kilometer walking distance prefer to walk to the nearest metro station in Noida. Finally, the study shows the area difference between the perceived and actual Isochrones prepared in QGIS as Ped-sheds after deducing areas such as gated communities, superblocks and unplanned settlements like urban villages where the existing road/street network is not accessible by all or safe to use.

Urbanization is considered as the key driver for land use and land cover (LULC) changes across the globe and Delhi is no exception to this phenomenon. The population of Delhi has almost doubled from 8.4 million in 1991 to 16.3 million in 2011. Correspondingly, the built-up area has also increased from 336.82 to 598.22 km 2 during 1999–2018. This urban expansion has led to emergence of serious ecological risk and fragmentation of the landscape. In this context, it is imperative to analyse the level of risks induced by such urban expansion and its underlying associations with other factors. This article quantifies the LULC changes in Delhi during 1999–2018 using Landsat 5 (TM) and Landsat 8 (OLI) data. A spatio-temporal sprawl induced risk assessment index has been developed by combining landscape fragmentation score and land use land cover vulnerability score. The landscape fragmentation score was based on four landscape metrics, whereas the vulnerability score was computed from LULC data. The article also assesses the association between risk areas and economic activities, environmental and infrastructural amenities that are considered key drivers of urban expansion in Delhi. To estimate spatio-temporal variability between risk areas and key drivers, ordinary least square regression and geographical weighted regression (GWR) were used. The GWR results reveal that sprawl-induced ecological risk in Delhi is strongly associated with economic activity, infrastructural accessibility and environmental amenities. This spatial empirical assessment also shows that urban growth incentives or services such as roads, metro rail, schools and hospitals can also create pressure on the landscape if local authorities arbitrarily provide these services across space without considering the associated risks.

Increased delays and reduced speeds in work zones leads to congestion. This can be improved by optimizing the work zone length. The focus of this study is to model work zones using cellular automata model and to find the effects of work zones on traffic flow. The methodology adopted in the study involved creating work-zone on the road by blocking some of the cells and then determining traffic characteristics such as delay and queue lengths for model validation. For this the lateral movement rules of the existing Cellular Automata model were modified in order to replicate the traffic movement near work zones. This model is calibrated and validated using data from work zone observed near a metro rail station in Delhi. From the analysis it was evident that the queue length increased with increase in the length of work zone. Several relationships were tried between delay and work zone length. Among them the rational form was found suitable.

Antibiotics are an easy, rapid and quick replacement to improved care within fragmented health systems with poor access and infection control measures in many countries, including India. India announced its national action plan for antimicrobial resistance (NAP-AMR) 2017-2021 but has made limited progress. Successful public welfare programs (Delhi metro rail corporation DMRC, swachh bharat mission (SBM), beti bachao beti padao (B3P) and national green tribunal NGT) were reviewed that had addressed critical national concerns similar to AMR. Valuable lessons from their implementation provide the opportunity to improve the governance and operationalization of the NAP-AMR. Unique features of the four programs identified above include resilient leadership, multi-stakeholder coordination with oversight and accountability of partnerships, innovation in program design and implementation and data-driven real-time monitoring for sustained behavior change. Incorporating these strategies into the program design and implementation of India's NAP-AMR will reinvigorate the program to accelerate the achievement of program targets.

By the year 2035 it is estimated that Delhi and Mumbai will become two of the most populous cities around the globe. The massive population growth rate has led to the rise of land scarcity, urbanization, and industrialization and developments for rapid transit systems have made accordingly. Modern rapid transit systems comprise Metro rails and subways etc., and increase underground-construction activities. Nowadays, the tunnel-construction process heavily relies on massive machineries such as tunnelling-boring machines (TBM) and operations that produce great hindrance in the soil mass resulting in ground settlement at the surface. This study aimed to address these issues through small-scale laboratory experiments and further amplification to real-valued problems utilizing numerical methods. A cubic box of edge length 1 m made up of mild steel was generated to simulate a tunnelling operation and aluminum-made lining were used to simulate concrete tunnel linings. A finite element-based numerical investigation was done for a 2D elastoplastic numerical tunnel model with dimensions of 42 m × 42 m. Analysis was carried out on Optum G2 software. The analyzed variations in lining shapes of lining included circular, horseshoe, arch, elliptical, and square. Results showed that elliptical-shaped linings experienced the least ground settlement and these are recommended for places where surface settlement may cause major damage. It is also recommended that square-shaped linings should not be used in such situations due their higher settlement values.

Purpose This paper aims to understand the spatiotemporal influence of metro rail connectivity on housing prices in surrounding areas. The study assesses the average annual price shift for apartments around metro stations in Delhi during the previous decade, specifically from 2010 to 2019. The authors examine the spatiotemporal extents to which housing prices are determined by the prominence of metro stations and spatial development around metro stations. Design/methodology/approach The authors perform the cross-tabulation analysis to calculate chi-square values to test the hypotheses concerning the responsiveness of the housing market in Delhi to the number of locational variables in the areas connected with the mass public transportation system. Findings The empirical findings verify the existence of a housing market overvaluation in Delhi around metro stations until 2013, which was eventually re-adjusted after 2014. The key findings of the study suggest the role of location variables concerning metro rails in the shooting up of the housing prices in the city. In addition, the research establishes the association of annual housing price shifts to the metro rails in the short-term, mid-term and long-term in conjunction with the distance from the metro station. Originality/value In the market, the prices are often overvalued by real estate agents due to better connectivity to the metro stations. The overvaluation eventually causes massive downfalls in housing markets and rollouts as a risk for the investors. However, the effect of mass transportation on housing prices is mixed in nature, limited to a certain extent only and not as influential as frequently portrayed by the market forces. This effect loses colour with time.

Streszczenie:
Transit officials worldwide continuously learn from passenger perception surveys to improve service quality and enhance transit ridership. However, many elderly and physically disabled (E&PD) passengers are transit users with special needs whose service requirements have received insufficient attention in the past. In fact, providing satisfactory transit services to E&PD passengers is often a critical challenge for transit officials, since a theory of interrelations among service factors is not yet established from E&PD passengers’ perspectives. Therefore, the present study aims to establish interrelations among service quality factors and identify service improvements for E&PD passengers using satisfaction data from 254 E&PD passengers of Delhi Metro. For this purpose, this study has employed an integrated Bayesian networks and partial least squares path modeling approach. The obtained results have shown some remarkable and meaningful interpretations. For instance, a one-unit increase in satisfaction with the “safety & security” factor would induce a 68% increase in their satisfaction with overall service quality. Besides, importance–performance map analysis showed that Delhi Metro must consider “safety and security,”“passenger ease,” and “seamless connectivity” as high-priority areas needing improvements to promote E&PD-friendly transit services. Overall, the findings of this study suggest several policy measures that would enrich the service quality and achieve universal design standards in metro rail transit systems.

Streszczenie:
Abstract The solar radiation data are a very important parameter to forecast generation from any solar PV (Photo Voltaic) plant to be installed at a suitable location, though it is not readily available for many locations because of the costly measurement instruments, and their maintenance, and calibration issues. The solar irradiation data available from NASA and Meteonorm has the prediction topology of consolidating 20–25 years old irradiation data which has the question of reliability. Furthermore, at various locations in India, the irradiance value of Meteonorm is overestimated than actual. In this research study an attempt has been made to develop an algorithm for the anisotropic solar radiation model by coalescing Gopinathan empirical parameter, Klucher anisotropic model, and Collares-Pereira & Rabl (GKCR) empirical parameter which gives the best results of forecasted daily and monthly solar radiation at almost every location in India. The computed results are compared with Meteonorm and the NASA database for three distinct locations (New Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata) at different azimuths and tilt angles. The results obtained i.e., solar tilted radiation and tilt gain were very close to that simulated using PVsyst software using Meteonorm and NASA database. The computed results were compared using various statistical tools with measured irradiance values for four distinctly located solar PV plants. The computed result shows the least error compared to actual data for two locations. Employing the GKCR empirical algorithm mentioned in the research article, hourly irradiance data for the next day, for any specific tilt and azimuth angle can be estimated using available weather forecast data (sunshine duration) and can circumvent the penalty levied by the Load dispatch Centre. Furthermore, by using monthly data anticipated by the algorithm, the question of data reliability of chargeable Meteo sources working on coalescing data of antiquated years like NASA and Meteonorm can be solved.
