La these porte sur l'oeuvre historique de nicolas de damas, a l'exception de la vie d'auguste. Dans une premiere partie (volume i), sont etudies l'autobiographie de nicolas de damas et les testimonia sur sa vie, qui permettent de retracer la carriere politique et litteraire de cet historien, en montrant notamment le role d'herode et celui de ptolemaios, le frere de nicolas. Est ensuite examinee la possibilite de completer la tradition indirecte de son oeuvre historique, l'histoire universelle, par des fragments supplementaires tires de l'oeuvre de flavius josephe et portant sur la periode herodienne. Cette extension du corpus des fragments de l'oeuvre historique de nicolas de damas permet de completer sensiblement l'ouvrage a partir de textes jusqu'alors insuffisamment exploites. L'histoire universelle est ensuite etudiee dans son ensemble, ainsi que le recueil ethnographique de nicolas de damas, intitule collection de moeurs remarquables. Le corpus des fragments etabli par f. Jacoby (fgrh nʿ 90) est accru de textes tires de divers auteurs qui ont cite nicolas de damas et dont les emprunts a son oeuvre n'ont pas, jusqu'a present, ete identifies. L'ensemble du texte, etabli a partir d'un nouvel examen des manuscrits, est presente avec un apparat critique, une traduction et des notes explicatives (volume ii). Vient ensuite le commentaire des fragments (volume iii), qui obeit a trois principes : identifier les sources, degager les apports de l'auteur et discuter la valeur historique de ses recits. A l'issue de ce commentaire analytique, une synthese degage les traits caracteristiques de la methode historique de nicolas de damas : historicisation des mythes, dans la perspective augusteenne d'une restauration du passe et construction d'un archetype du souverain ideal, celui de "l'usurpateur evergete", bati sur le modele d'herode.

Cette thèse propose une lecture de la pensée de Schelling à partir des Lettres sur le dogmatisme et le criticisme de 1795 jusqu’aux Leçons d’Erlangen (1825) d'après la notion du tragique. Cela entraîne non seulement une étude des textes de Schelling, mais aussi une définition philosophique du tragique. L'originalité de ma thèse réside en que cette "métaphysique du tragique" va être rigoureusement dégagée de l'interprétation schellingienne de la tragédie dans sa Philosophie de l’art de 1802-1805. Or, le but principal de mon analyse est de montrer, comment le tragique n’est pas seulement un sujet possible de réflexion de la philosophie de Schelling, mais un processus dont la philosophie elle-même devient le sujet. Ainsi l’accomplissement, le zénith de clarté est aussi pour la philosophie, comme pour Œdipe, la connaissance de soi-même et en ceci la reconnaissance de sa finitude et de son échec insurmontable. Mais l'importance de cet échec, ne se réduit pas au fait que le discours philosophique soit essentiellement inachevé ; ce qui est plus important, c'est que la philosophie n'est rien d’autre que la réalisation interminable de cet échec. Un processus qui commence dans les Recherches philosophiques sur l'essence de la liberté humaine de 1809 et qui culmine avec ses Leçons d’Erlangen. La thèse principale de ma dissertation est donc directement liée à l'incapacité d'exprimer l'infini, et à la réalisation de cette incapacité. Pour cela le tragique s'avère non seulement pertinent, mais essentiel pour comprendre tant la philosophie, que la démarche ou la généalogie de sa pensée jusqu'aux 1825. Et pourtant ceci n'est pas la fin de la philosophie, mais plutôt son commencementThe main aim of my dissertation is to show how Schelling's philosophy can be seen as an ongoing reflection upon the problem of expression, i. E. The problem of putting into words what essentially cannot be defined, namely the absolute. However, the significance of this failure is not merely that philosophical discourse is unfinished or unrealizable; the problem we are confronted with has to do with the fact that philosophy is not anything else than the written texts, and hence is itself necessarily unfinished or incomplete. To put it in other more Schellinguian terms, philosophy is an eternal process of becoming itself; a process which should also be considered as a process of liberation or emancipation (Befreiung). On the other hand, the analysis of Schelling's Philosophy of Art, where he claims Greek Tragedy to be the highest and most sublime form of art, enables me to consider this very process as a tragic one. Indeed the tragic is seen as the thread or the underlying structure which shapes Schelling's whole enterprise. For in the same way Oedipus had to kill his father in order to become aware of his true nature, in the same way the realisation of human freedom entails a necessary (original) sin, philosophy can only be achieved through failure. Philosophy needs to fail, so it may become aware of its own fallibility. In the last chapter I show how this very insight is directly developed in the Erlangen Lectures from 1825, which thus become the final confirmation of my thesis. However, I also prove, that this does not mean the Erlangen Lectures are the end of philosophy: they should rather be regarded as the starting point for any attempt to achieve the unattainable

La «loi de persistance du plan», appliquée autrefois par J. Sauvaget à Damas, se montre féconde pour Jérusalem. Selon ce principe, l’analyse des quartiers septentrionaux de la ville délimités par le «deuxième mur», respectivement intra-muros et extra-muros à l’ouest et à l’est, en manifeste le réseau viaire originel et son évolution. Les récents progrès réalisés à propos de l’arpentage antique, confrontés à la reconsidération de l’arc de l’Ecce Homo, fonction et chronologie – une porte urbaine hérodienne plutôt qu’un arc de triomphe d’Hadrien –, mettent en évidence un urbanisme soigné conçu par Jean Hyrcan autour d’une patte d’oie centrée sur la porte septentrionale de la ville (l’actuelle porte de Damas). Hérode le Grand, dont les grands travaux ont tendance à occulter ce qui précède, dut composer avec l’urbanisme bien-pensé de Hyrcan, développant un nouveau quartier orthonormé au nord du temple, auquel l’arc de l’Ecce Homo donnait accès. The analysis, according to this principle, of the northern districts of the city delimited by the "Second Wall", respectively intramural and extramural to the west and east, shows the original urban network and its evolution. Advances in the science of ancient surveying, coupled with the reconsideration of the function and dating of the Ecce Homo arch – a Herodian urban gate rather than a triumphal arch of Ælia Capitolina – highlight a careful urbanism designed by John Hyrcanos around a three ways junction centred on the northern gate of the city (the current Damascus gate). Herod the Great himself, whose major works tend to obscure the above, had to deal with the well-thought-out urban planning of the high priest, developing a new orthonormal district north of the Temple. Hadrian only embellished the whole according to the fashion of his time, adding the vital organs of a Roman colony. The great forum of Ælia was dominated by the Capitolin Temple ad orientem and the former esplanade of the Jewish Temple was transformed into an aedes dedicated to imperial cult: an equestrian statue of the emperor was enthroned near the most sacred place of the Jewish Temple. The city's eventful history never succeeded in obscuring the Hasmonaean road network, which is still used today by hierosolymitans around the Damascus Gate

Les Araméens sont une population qui apparait dans le territoire de la Syrie et de la Mésopotamie actuelle au début du premier millénaire avant J.-C. A partir du Xe siècle, ils se transforment de population nomade à population sédentaire, en créant des États territoriaux qui prennent le nom de byt, suivi par le nom du fondateur de chaque dynastie locale. Le présent travail, en partant de l’épineuse question ethnique, cherche à déterminer les caractéristiques des Araméens en particulier en Syrie du Sud aux IXe-VIIIe siècles, pendant la montée du royaume de Damas, et ses relations avec les populations voisines, parmi lesquelles les Israëlites qui se sont confrontés avec eux plusieurs fois pendant des périodes alternées de guerres et de paix. Il s’agit d’une étude détaillée de la région méridionale de la Syrie qui s’appuie sur l’analyse des sources épigraphiques (inscriptions araméennes, annales assyriennes et passages bibliques) et sur les données archéologiques des sites de “possible” occupation araméenne au Sud de Damas, en Palestine et en Jordanie du Nord. A travers la comparaison des ces données, j’ai cherché à fournir une reconstruction vraisemblable du contexte historique du royaume de Damas aux IXe-VIIIe siècles av. J.-C., de la figure du souverain Hazael et de l’ expansion politique de son royaume jusqu’à la soumission par les AssyriensThe Arameans are a population settled in the territory of modern Syria and Mesopotamia in the first millennium BC. Starting from the tenth century, they gradually leave their nomadic lifestyle to turn into a sedentary population by creating territorial states under the name of “Byt”, after the name of the founder of each local dynasty. In this work, starting from the controversial question about ethnics, we seek to determine the representative characteristics of Aramaeans, especially for those settled in southern Syria in the ninth-eighth centuries, during the rise of the Damascus kingdom. We investigate this latter relationships with neighboring populations, especially the Israelites who were confronted with them several times during alternate periods of war and peace. This is a detailed study of the southern part of Syria based on the analysis of epigraphic sources (Aramaic inscriptions, Assyrian annals and Bible) and archaeological data coming from some sites (south of Damascus, Palestine and North Jordan ) known to be occupated by Arameans. Through the comparison of these data, we try to provide a plausible reconstruction of the historical context of the kingdom of Damascus in the ninth-eighth centuries BC., the figure of the king Hazael, its political expansion till its falling due to the Assyrians domination

La présente recherche s'intéresse à la compréhension de quelques aspects particuliers de la poliorcétique romaine et aux moyens de transmettre ces résultats à un public, qu’il soit spécialisé ou non. Nombreuses sont les sources qui n’ont pas été exploitées dans l’historiographie ancienne et récente, qu’il s’agisse de récits, de poèmes, et même de certaines informations présentes dans les textes techniques. L’analyse exhaustive de ces sources anciennes entre le Ier siècle a.C. et le IVe siècle p.C. permet de considérer chaque problématique liée aux machines de siège romaines afin d’en obtenir une compréhension qui soit la plus complète possible. La restitution virtuelle de plusieurs machinae décrites avec précision permet d’obtenir des hypothèses expérimentales des principaux engins de siège et d’en déduire des corollaires sur les plans physiques, logistiques et stratégiques. La prise en compte du contexte de fonctionnement des machines s’inscrit dans une approche globale, méthode inhérente à l’Histoire des techniques. Cette méthodologie scientifique contribue à un développement parallèle des solutions de médiation scientifique permettant à tous d’accéder et de réfléchir aux problématiques abordéesThis research focuses on some particular aspects of Roman Siege Warfare and on solutions to transmit these results to an expert or non-expert public. There are many unstudied historical sources in the ancient and recent historiography, either narrative sources, poems or even some details from technical texts. An exhaustive analysis of those sources, dated between the first century BC to the fourth century AD, allows us to consider each problematic related to Roman siege machines in order to acquire an understanding as complete as possible. The virtual restitution of several well described machinae allows us to formulate experimental hypotheses of the main siege engines and to infer physical, logistical and strategic corollaries. By taking into account the operating context of the machines, we subscribe to an overall approach, the specific method of Technical history. This scientific methodology enables a parallel reflection about scientific mediation solutions, allowing everyone to access and give thought to the developed problematic

Wie wird das Leben zum Objekt des Wissens? Und wie gestaltet sich das Verhältnis von Leben, Wissenschaft und Technik? Donna J. Haraway und Georges Canguilhem verstehen diese Fragen als politische Fragen und Epistemologie als eine politische Praxis. Die besondere Aktualität von Canguilhems Denken leitet sich aus der von ihm gestellten Frage her, wie sich eine Geschichte der Rationalität des Wissens vom Leben schreiben lässt. Niemand hat die politische Intention dieser Frage besser verstanden als Foucault, der in Canguilhems Nachfolge den Menschen als Lebewesen und dessen Geschichte als Teil der Geschichte der Rationalisierung des Lebens problematisierte. Haraway bezieht sich nicht explizit auf Canguilhem, schließt jedoch in ihrer Auseinandersetzung mit der amerikanischen feministischen Wissenschaftskritik, der Actor-Netzwerk-Theorie, der Philosophie des Pragmatismus und Whiteheads relationistischen Philosophie an die von ihm gestellte Frage an. In dem vorliegenden Band diskutieren namhafte PhilosophInnen, EpistemologInnen und MedienwissenschaftlerInnen aus Frankreich, Belgien und Deutschland offenliegende und verborgene Bezüge, Relationen und Differenzen zwischen dem Konzept des „situierten Wissens“ Haraways und der „regionalen Epistemologie“ Canguilhems. Der Meta-Roman: von Mark Danielewski, Raymond Federman und Wolf Haas bis zu J. J. Abrams'/Doug Dorsts "S. – Das Schiff des Theseus". Vor allem in der literarischen 'Postmoderne' zeigt sich unter dem in der Forschung bis heute inflationär benutzten, aber nicht klar definierten Begriff der 'Metafiktion' eine deutliche Tendenz, nicht mehr Figuren, Handlungen und erzählte Welten zu fokussieren, sondern vielmehr Modalitäten, Funktionen und narrative Vermittlungsformen zu reflektieren. Damit wird das Erzählen selbst sowie die Fiktionsbildung ins Zentrum gerückt, aber auch die Textualität und Medialität fiktionaler Prosa werden autoreflexiv thematisiert. Die Offenlegung narrativer Illusionsbildung unterminiert dabei auf sehr unterschiedliche Weise scheinbar feste Zuschreibungen in der Erzähltheorie – wie Erzählinstanzen, Erzählebenen, ästhetische Illusion – und führt in extremen Fällen geradezu in ihre Destruktion. Der Sammelband stellt einen ersten Versuch der Bestandsaufnahme des experimentellen Romans im Zeichen der Metafiktion dar. Er will den Blick schärfen für die bedeutungs-konstituierenden Aspekte der Spezifik materiell-medialer Repräsentationen und ihrer narrativen Funktionalisierungen in META-Romanen. Neben Einzelanalysen bringt der Band anschlussfähige Konzepte der Differenzierung und Funktionalisierung verschiedener Meta-Phänomene und eine typologische Systematisierung der differenten Formen des experimentellen Romans seit den 1960er Jahren.

Wird damit der Suizid zu einer gesellschaftlich akzeptierten und wahlweise nutzbaren Problemlösungsstrategie? Immer wirft die Absicht, sich das Leben zu nehmen, noch dazu mit Hilfe Anderer, existenzielle Fragen auf – nach der Handlungsfreiheit und Autonomie, der Urteilsfähigkeit bei psychischer Krankheit, aber auch nach den Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Suizidprävention und der psychotherapeutischen Hilfen. Um Antworten zu finden, ist ein interdisziplinärer Dialog nötig, der anthropologische, philosophische, ethische, rechtliche, psychoanalytische und psychiatrisch-psychotherapeutische Sichtweisen umfasst. Die Festschrift zum 60-jährigen Bestehen der Assistententagung im Öffentlichen Recht reflektiert Wandlungsprozesse, wie sie seit den 1960er Jahren im Öffentlichen Recht stattfinden. Angesprochen sind damit zunächst (wissenschafts-)kulturelle Veränderungen, aber auch Kontinuitäten vor dem Hintergrund gesellschaftlicher und politischer Umbrüche. Clemens J. Setz ist bekannt für seine verstörenden Texte, die nicht selten abweichende Körperlichkeit und Grenzverletzungen verhandeln. Damit verbundene Ambivalenzen werden mit (postmodernen) Mitteln des Literarischen beleuchtet und in irritierende Zonen von Grenzüberschreitungen und Ambiguität fortgeschrieben. Beide im Beitrag untersuchten Texte - 'Wohin mit meiner Haut' (2015) und 'Zauberer' (2019) - transgredieren über literarische Verfahren wie ,produktive Rezeption' Textgrenzen und verhandeln die Bedrohung der Integrität des Subjekts u.a. durch manipulative Herrschaftstechniken. Dabei stellen sowohl das Phantasma einer vollständigen Öffnung des Frauenkörpers als auch die Manipulationen des Willens und der (abweichenden) Körper nicht zuletzt auch die Frage nach den Grenzen des Körpers.

Wie wird das Leben zum Objekt des Wissens? Und wie gestaltet sich das Verhältnis von Leben, Wissenschaft und Technik? Donna J. Haraway und Georges Canguilhem verstehen diese Fragen als politische Fragen und Epistemologie als eine politische Praxis. Die besondere Aktualität von Canguilhems Denken leitet sich aus der von ihm gestellten Frage her, wie sich eine Geschichte der Rationalität des Wissens vom Leben schreiben lässt. Niemand hat die politische Intention dieser Frage besser verstanden als Foucault, der in Canguilhems Nachfolge den Menschen als Lebewesen und dessen Geschichte als Teil der Geschichte der Rationalisierung des Lebens problematisierte. Haraway bezieht sich nicht explizit auf Canguilhem, schließt jedoch in ihrer Auseinandersetzung mit der amerikanischen feministischen Wissenschaftskritik, der Actor-Netzwerk-Theorie, der Philosophie des Pragmatismus und Whiteheads relationistischen Philosophie an die von ihm gestellte Frage an. In dem vorliegenden Band diskutieren namhafte PhilosophInnen, EpistemologInnen und MedienwissenschaftlerInnen aus Frankreich, Belgien und Deutschland offenliegende und verborgene Bezüge, Relationen und Differenzen zwischen dem Konzept des „situierten Wissens“ Haraways und der „regionalen Epistemologie“ Canguilhems. Es ist eine Diskussion, die zugleich interdisziplinär und international ist und damit in doppelter Weise versucht, dem Anspruch der Situiertheit und der Regionalität des Wissens gerecht zu werden.

Patients need the ability to accurately and efficiently communicate their preferences across outcome domains to their healthcare providers.1-7 No existing system provides an efficient and timely approach to collect and communicate patient preferences across outcome domains to support shared decision making (SDM) in orthopaedic practice.2-4,8-19 The overarching goal of this research is to design, build, and test an app that collects baseline patient preferences and health status across orthopaedic outcomes and reports this information to the provider for use in patient care. A core component of the app is a Direct-Weighting (DW) preference assessment approach, originated from our prior research, and applied in a touchscreen based interactive design. It is envisioned that patients will use the app after scheduling a first visit to a surgeon for a new orthopaedic condition. Direct weighting (DW) approaches calculate patient-specific preference weights across outcomes by asking patients to disperse portions of a hypothetical “whole” across outcomes in a manner that reflects a patient’s preferences.20 DW has low respondent burden but it requires respondents to make “implicit” comparisons which may be difficult to conceptualize.20 However, the DW approach has become generally accepted in the quality-of-life literature and it has been shown that patients dividing up pieces of a “pie” across quality-of-life domains yields valid representations of patient preferences across the domains.20-22 However, the DW approach has not been validated with specific clinical scenarios using a clinically focused set of outcomes or by using a mobile software app. Drawing on prior research, we iteratively design and develop the app with input from prior DW research, informaticians, and clinicians. We use a qualitative approach to pilot test the app with 20 first-time visit patients presenting with joint pain and/or function deficiency. Participants were interviewed about their outcome preferences for care, used the app to prioritize outcome preferences, answered interview questions about their experience using the app, and completed a mHealth App Usability Questionnaire (MAUQ). Interview questions focused on the utility and usability of the mobile app for communicating with their provider, and capability of the app to capture their outcome preferences. Results validated five core preference domains, with most users dividing their 100-point allocation across 1-3 domains. The tool received moderate to high usability scores. Patients with older age and lower literacy found the DW approach more difficult in terms of allocating 100 points across 5 domains. Suggestions for DW interface interaction improvement included instantiation of a token/points oriented DW preference scoring methodology rather than a 1-10 sliding scale approach for improved preference weighting cognition and SDM with a provider. As more patient reported outcome (PRO) apps hit the marketplace across a broad spectrum of health conditions, these results provide evidence for a DW approach and interactive design for patients to communicate their treatment preferences to their providers.References:1.Baumhauer JF, Bozic KJ. According to the Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory of human development ([1][2][3][4][5]), the development of each individual cannot be observed without considering its relationship with the development of other people and, above all, with the environment in which they live. The ecological orientation of Bronfenbrenner with respect to human development is therefore based on the interest in the progressive adaptation between an active organism that grows and its immediate environment: the individual-environment interaction that is determined by the relationships existing between the different environmental situations and the individuals present in that context is fundamental. Consequently, the ecological environment that is considered relevant to development processes is not limited to a single environmental situation but includes the interconnections between multiple environmental situations and the different influences of each individual. The evolution of the Internet-based technologies has brought to the development of solutions that have profoundly changed the way we live, including education. The advent of social media and social networks represents a milestone in the history of Internet, opening up to profound reflections on the "virtualization" of relationships, their growing importance in everyday life, and their role in education. Many authors argue that the Internet and the social media should no longer be considered as a tool to connect to a virtual reality that is separate from the real world, but as a place in which users live daily ([6][9][11][10]); consequently, they constitute one of the environmental situations mentioned by Bronfenbrenner. However, the risks deriving from the use of social media have been widely discusses in the literature ([7][8][12]). Adolescents are more exposed to the social media threats, since they are unable to perceive the profoundly different dynamics that govern offline and online networks. In this paper, having in mind the Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory of human development, we argue that the progressive adaptation of students to social media should be considered as a process of their growth and development. Furthermore, we analyze some corrections to be introduced in the educational paths of adolescents necessary to reduce the threats deriving from the use of social media and social networks in education.
