Streszczenie:
The paper deals with teaching Music in the first cycle of primary education in the Republic of Serbia from the point of view of the presence of cultural identity content in Music curricula. The goal of the paper is to investigate to what extent the Music curricula enable the achievement of the learning outcomes related to creating cultural identity, and to what extent they offer a clear guideline for learning about cultural identity. Therefore, a review of both international and national documents related to the development of culture and identity in education are given. In addition, the Music curricula are analysed in order to determine whether they contain elements that support learning about cultural identity. The descriptive research analysis method and the secondary analysis of the documents (laws, curricula) related to education and cultural identity are used in the research. The main findings of the research show that the analysed curricula 1) are aligned with international and national documents that regulate the field of education and develop a strategy for connecting cultural and educational policies; 2) they enable learning about culture and identity and create a basis for the creation of cultural identity. It is necessary, however, that Music curricula broaden their cultural basis and serve the purpose of developing children’s intercultural competencies.

Ever since the completion of the High Dam in 1964, Nubians have lost their culture and heritage as a result of sacrificing their land to flooding. Eventually, they became dispersed all over Sudan and Egypt with some ending up in different parts of the world and struggling to return to the shores of Lake Nasser. With short-lived success, Nubians managed to make a resurrection of Wade Half and re-locate in Sudanese towns. This paper aims to conserve the Nubian identity, which has been abandoned throughout the people’s emigration process. This paper presents a proposal of rehabilitation to the Nubians and their homeland along the shore of Lake Nasser. This paper provides recommendations for methods to repairing the damage caused to the Nubian population following their relocation and construction of the Aswan dam. The main idea behind this proposal is to re- link the Nubians to a life they loved and violated in terms of their association with the Nile River. It is an attempt to restore their favorite urban spaces and architectural elements. Without a doubt, the proposal encompasses recommendations to producing new designs to the Nubian house conforming to their identity, cultural heritage, and modern-day civilization as a way of rehabilitation.

Streszczenie:
By the mid-19th century, in order to combat the threat of colonisation by western powers, the Thai king and the country’s social elite decided to adopt and implement western notions and technology as a superior ways to develop Thailand into a civilised nation, since it was believed that a new modern image of Thai cultural identity would help the country to be regarded as equal to Europe. At the same time, traditional Thai beliefs – especially the values of ‘pure’ Buddhism – were left behind as they were seen to be entirely different from the new western notions. Ever since then westernised modes of thinking have been supported by several generations of Thai rulers through a series of examples of imposed ‘top-down’ planning. This inappropriate and failed harmonisation of modern culture with Thai tradition, a process which is increasingly influenced by globalisation, has resulted in a contemporary cultural crisis that creates many problems in different aspects of the Thai built environment. The objective of this doctoral study is therefore to observe the results of these cross-cultural conflicts, and to find new ways to use architectural design to focus on a different approach from the westernised notions embodied in globalisation. The ideals of eco-Buddhism and of localised, ‘bottom-up’ planning – together with architectural participation by local people – thus become the inspirational ideas behind this study. The framework of the thesis chooses to investigate two different dimensions of the cultural conflicts caused by unsuccessful hybridisation in Thailand: firstly, the extreme physical changes to the built environment caused by the western influences; and secondly, the specific Thai pheonmena that illustrate the negative impact of cultural hybridisation on the mentality of local people. The cities of Bangkok and Chiang Mai have thus been chosen as the two main case studies because each exemplifies particular problems. This thesis, as a PhD by Design will propose various small-scale architectural projects which are expressed differently according to their background problems. These often simple projects – seen as ‘small changes’ introduced by architects – are presented in the hope that their impacts would then be scaled up through local participation and the latent creativities of the residents of these urban areas in Thailand’s two main cities.

This thesis is inspired by the experience of living in two places that both have distinctive cultures. Architecture being a form of culture motivated me to enter the school of architecture. After 6 years of study, this paper attempts to answer my initial concerns on architecture and culture. For me it is very important to understand what the relationship between architecture and culture and how they influence each other. How does one present culture and tradition in the design of architecture? How can architecture represent cultural identity in a foreign context, in a more respectful way? Can architecture become the platform to connect people with distinct cultural backgrounds? Last but not least, in the contemporary city of Cape Town, what is the multi-cultural intervention that one can create for immigrants, in this case, the Chinese community in South Africa? These are the essential questions that I want to discuss and investigate in my thesis. There are three sections in this paper. The first is an introduction to Chinese culture and its national identity, looking at traditional Chinese architecture and philosophies behind their making. The courtyard house will be studied as an example. Furthermore, contemporary Chinese architecture that looks at new approaches to representing the modern Chinese identity will be discussed. The second part explores spatial and urban manifestation in Chinese cities - how urban space affects one's cultural behavior. I will look at typical conditions of Chinatown and its architectural characteristic in the foreign context, including the new Chinatown in Johannesburg. In the last chapter, the paper will bring forward my thoughts through design development on site selection, programme and concept. I explored the subject of architecture and identity of nation and the way that cultural identity can be represented through architecture. I questioned how this can be translated into architecture when making its national image into a foreign country.

Dominant theories of aboriginal rights articulate the relation between rights and identity in terms of a logic which treats identity as an irreducible good and rights as the instrumental means of its protection. However, identity claims and legal claims emerge in our use of language. Identity and the institutions in which identities are expressed and experienced are constituted in speech. A close analysis reveals the degree to which law and identity are a systemic imbrication of normative claims characterized by an innate indeterminacy. This indeterminacy renders all rights and identity claims contingent on their reception and validation by others.

Streszczenie:
This thesis addresses the problematic issues of the relationship between artefacts and collective identity in the study of the past. It examines how one current strand of contemporary archaeological theory attempts to recover the truth of the identities of peoples in the past, by utilising a form of interpretation derived from semiotics and idealism, to 'read' their artefactual traces. The conception of cultural identity utilised by contextualism (post-processualism) is re-examined in three ways.;Firstly, the central concepts of these approaches are critically examined in terms of their dependence on, and constitution in, contemporary theoretical discourse, utilising an approach influenced by the strategies of the post-structuralist authors which post-processualism has itself enlisted in support of its interpretative approaches.;Secondly, the practices and concepts which support current archaeological conceptions of cultural identity are re-examined in an historical account of their emergence and transformation since the Renaissance derived from the archaeological and genealogical strategies of Michel Foucault. This demonstrates the extent to which conceptions of the identities of the peoples of the past, from those of Antiquarians to contemporary archaeological theorists, have consistently been projections, or reconstruction, of contemporary views of identity. This seeks to show that such conceptions are historically determined and specific whilst claiming to transcend and recover history.;Thirdly, current archaeological conceptions of cultural identity are juxtaposed against an account of the forms of cultural identification in the contemporary Indian communities of Leicester. This is undertaken in order to demonstrate the cultural specificity of archaeological notions of cultural identity. The implication of this critique is the acknowledgement that descriptions of past cultures are constructions incorporating artefacts within a theorised framework which includes conceptions of identity. These conceptions and accounts of past cultures are artefacts produced in the present, not recoveries of a 'real' past.

Also, we explore the effects of socioeconomic and demographic factors on favorite books and writing genres. Such cross-state analyses highlight how the country is culturally rich, where each region has its own distinctive culture. Our findings offer great opportunities for the Brazilian book industry by enhancing current knowledge on social indicators related to reading preferences.

Through the process of cultural hybridization form a unique identity by mixing elements from interaction of cultures which has occurred throughout the world since the past. Representation of this identity can be understood with the dressing styles of cultures. With the influence of foreign cultures by the exposure throughout history, Sri Lankan culture has formed a unique identity with the hybridization process. The beginning of colonialism with Portuguese intervention and European culture marked a pivotal point in Sri Lanka's cultural identity, which lasted to the present. This study is conducted with the association of hybrid community Portuguese burghers located in Batticaloa and their traditional practices that developed as a result of cultural interaction that occurred during the Portuguese era in the eastern coastal area that has been identified as a cultural exchange zone using the hybrid component identification methodology suggested by Historian Peter Burke in order to analyze the process of hybridity formation and the reasoning behind the cultural identity formation. The study will primarily focus on female dressing associated with the community's Marriage ceremony traditions to understand the dressing and cultural identity formation with hybridization through data gathering methods such as interviews, literature, and visual observation of documents. In order to formulate a conclusion for the research, the study examines the history, traditional practices, cultural influences, and current condition, as well as the discussion of findings. Through a careful analysis of historical context and utilizing the hybridity research method, it was evident that the formation of a unique Sri Lankan cultural identity involved intentional reasoning from the perspective of the Portuguese and oppression and intentionality from the Sri Lankan perspective. This hybrid identity, embracing elements from both Portuguese and Sri Lankan cultures, culminated in the emergence of the Burgher community. However, in the present day, this community faces challenges of counter-globalization and external cultural pressures, pushing them to assert their identity within society. Researchers can expand on the study of cultural hybridity and identity formation through dressing, with a focus on Portuguese intervention. They have the opportunity to investigate the dance practices of the Portuguese Burghers and the African-influenced Kaffir community using the same framework. Alternatively, they can explore other cultures' influence on Sri Lankan culture, utilizing this research's framework to gain deeper insights into the process of cultural hybridization and its impact on identity formation.

This can be explained by the fact that as members of two or more cultures, many do their hardest to integrate into the dominant culture, even if it means sacrificing the values of the culture in which their parents were raised, only to have a sense of belonging in the dominant culture’s society. In this article we try to identify the specific features of bilingualism and pluriculturalism in social and family context in Western and Eastern cultures. Using France in the West and South Korea in the East as examples, we examined from various perspectives how immigrants who are fluent in the dominant culture’s language, have adopted its values into their lifestyle, yet even after spending in this country the most of their lives they feel alienated and discriminated. Based on documentary, analytical, historical, descriptive, and juxtaposed comparative methods of research we reached to the conclusion that while we advocate for equality regardless of ethnicity, gender, colour, or religion, equality remains an ideal that we have failed to achieve because we are still reluctant to fully accept cultural diversity of Identity.

Psychological research suggests that engagement with diversity-relevant materials can have a positive impact on interracial relations. However, prior research also suggests that there may be individual differences in how effective exposure to critical diversity narratives would be in facilitating positive intergroup attitudes. The primary aim of this paper is to provide some empirically based theorizing about patterns of group identification and their relationship to effective diversity exposure. In this chapter, we discuss two examples of research that explore for whom engagement with critical diversity activities may facilitate increased perceptions of social inequality. We begin by conceptualizing four race-based identity profiles derived from orthogonal considerations of attachment and glorification. We discuss support for findings that suggest that scoring high on one dimension but not the other (mixed or mismatched identity profiles) constitutes the identity profiles most likely to facilitate openness to critical, potentially identity-threatening, diversity content.

The article deals with the mental-existential relationship between ethnoculture, national identity and media culture as a necessary factor for their preservation, transformation, on the example of national original algorithms, matrix models, taking into account global tendencies and Ukrainian archetypal-specific features in Ukraine. the media actively serve the domestic oligarchs in their information-virtual and real wars among themselves and the same expansive alien humanitarian acts by curtailing ethno-cultural programs-projects on national radio, on television, in the press, or offering the recipient instead of a pop pointer, without even communicating to the audience the information stipulated in the media laws − information support-protection-development of ethno-culture national product in the domestic and foreign/diaspora mass media, the support of ethnoculture by NGOs and the state institutions themselves. In the context of the study of the cultural national socio-humanitarian space, the article diagnoses and predicts the model of creating and preserving in it the dynamic equilibrium of the ethno-cultural space, in which the nation must remember the struggle for access to information and its primary sources both as an individual and the state as a whole, culture the transfer of information, which in the process of globalization is becoming a paramount commodity, an egregore, and in the post-traumatic, interrupted-compensatory cultural-information space close rehabilitation mechanisms for national identity to become a real factor in strengthening the state − and vice versa in the context of adequate laws («Law about press and other mass media», Law «About printed media (press) in Ukraine», Law «About Information», «Law about Languages», etc.) and their actual effect in creating motivational mechanisms for preserving/protecting the Ukrainian language, as one of the main identifiers of national identity, information support for its expansion as labels cultural and geostrategic areas.

The Gold Coast has one of the strongest and most resilient city brands in Australia. Monikers such as the ‘glitter strip’, ‘Sin City’, ‘Australia’s playground’ and ‘famous for fun’ have variously been applied to brand the Gold Coast, with its identity long touted as revolving around ‘sun, surf and sand’. Belinda McKay (2005, p. 68) observes that the Gold Coast is often seen as a place to escape to, ‘where new possibilities can be imagined and enacted’: this sense of escape from the ordinary remains a strong element of the Gold Coast’s place identity.

This paper aims to identify the most famous Yazidi heritage industries in the town of Bashiqa, in Nineveh governorate. It explores the economic, social and cultural reality of three non-material industries (the manufacture of al-rashi, olive oil and soap) in the town of Bashiqa by comparing how they were manufactured in the past with how they are manufactured in the present, and assessing the impact of ISIS gangs on these industries. Finally, the paper puts forward proposals for how these industries can be developed to maintain their heritage and sustainability. The research also aims to invoke the cultural and scientific heritage of the local community to draw inspiration from their sources of strength to plan how local production of the traditional heritage industries can be revitalised after the destruction caused by ISIS. The paper also explores the attachment of the Yazidi community in Bashiqa to the traditional industrial crafts and the extent of their influence on social and economic life, especially given that the city of Mosul is famous for its craft activity, in addition to the cultural and religious differences among the local population of Bashiqa, which comprises several components of Iraqi society (Yazidi, Catholic and Orthodox Christians, and the Muslim Shabak – Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish) and thus affect the community’s view of the traditional crafts.

Streszczenie:
The authors explored the activity of mass media and cultural organizations aimed at clarification of the current problematic issue – preservation of Ukrainian cultural heritage under the conditions of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine. The authors emphasize that occupants not only destroy historic buildings, i.e. material objects, but also steal art values, destroy library and archive funds; their actions are aimed at destruction of our spirituality, identity and history. It is pointed out that there are the main streams in the work of journalists, experts, and culture figures, namely: fixation of losses, propaganda of the Ukrainian culture in the world, expert evaluation of the restitution possibilities, and filling of the culture material with patriotic sense. The full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine on the 24th of February 2022 led to the numerous loss of life, ruination of the military, civil and infrastructure objects. But the state-aggressor destroys and robs our culture in this war. Since the beginning of the war mass media have been actively informing about the situation in the regions, which happened to be at the line of the Russian troops attack. The information was in particular about the fact that different educational establishments, libraries and their funds, museums with valuable collections, theatres, religious buildings and historic buildings had been ruined. To tell the truth the information was incomplete due to the limited opportunities to monitor the situation. However, later it has been systematized. The work of journalists and experts contributed to this since they stated the criminal acts of Russia, informing about the ruination facts of historic, sacral, cultural monuments, devastation of many museum collections, destruction of library and archive funds. Digitalization of the Russian war crimes against Ukrainian culture became one more important work aimed at preservation of the Ukrainian cultural heritage. It was done by means of interactive maps of the Ukrainian cultural losses and it enables documenting crimes of the occupant army and spreading this information at the international level. Key words: culture, cultural front, cultural losses, cultural values, cultural heritage, war, media.

In the spring of 2021, the Danish Borderland Association published the book Danskerne findes i mange modeller – portrætter af 15 unge med bindestregsidentitet by Marlene Fenger-Grøndahl. The book consists of fifteen interviews with young so-called cultural ambassadors of the Borderland Association, as well as essays on the history of the Danish-German borderland and the concept of a hyphenated identity that the young respondents refer to. In minority research, the concept of a hyphenated identity is both used and contested. However, the interviews underline that the concept can serve as an important backdrop for the empowerment of young people with minority identities. This ECMI Minorites Blog entry is written by Garbi Schmidt, professor of Cultural Encounters at Roskilde University.

Streszczenie:
In the Islamist version of civilizational populism, the emotional backlash against the rise of secularism, multiculturalism, progressive ideas, and ‘wokeness,’ has been skillfully employed. While for the populists, populist far right and civilizational populists in the West, usually the Muslims are the civilizational other, we argue in this article, in the Islamist civilizational populism, the list of civilizational enemies of the Muslim way of life also includes feminists and LGBTQ+ rights advocates.Gender populism is a relatively new concept that refers to the use of gender symbolism, language, policy measures, and contestation of gender issues by populist actors. It involves the manipulation of gender roles, stereotypes, and traditional values to appeal to the masses and create divisions between “the people” and “the others.” This paper looks at the case study of gender populism in Turkey, where the Justice and Development Party (AKP) has been in power for over two decades. The AKP has used gender populism to redefine Turkish identity, promote conservative Islamism, and marginalize women and the LGBTQ+ community. The paper also discusses how gender populism has been used by the AKP to marginalize political opponents.
