Streszczenie:
In this paper, triple-band stacked microstrip patch antennas (MPAs) are presented with wide impedance bandwidth and suppressed cross-polarization level. Triangular and circular shaped slots are embedded in the patch of antenna. Slot-loaded microstrip patches are fed with meandered microstrip line supported by a semi-ground plane structure. Triangular shaped slot-loaded MPA shows triple resonance at frequencies 2.2, 4.45, and 5.3 GHz having bandwidth of 45.9, 19.23, and 15.67%, respectively. Circular shaped slot-loaded MPA also shows triple resonance at frequencies 2.2, 4.42, and 5.38 GHz having bandwidth of 50.24, 33.21, and 13.43%, respectively. Using circular slot in place of triangular; bandwidth of the first and the second band is improved by 4.34 and 13.98%, respectively. Both the proposed antennas show an omnidirectional radiation pattern at all three resonance frequencies in the xz-plane with almost 0 dBi gain. Both the proposed antennas are fabricated on a FR-4 epoxy substrate and show a minimum level of cross-polarization radiations.

AbstractThis paper presents a cavity-backed dual-slot antenna in 0.13-μm SiGe BiCMOS technology. The dual-slot structure is excited by a cross-shaped strip line and a cavity which is formed by the topmost metal layer connected to the bottom metal layer through vias in between. By adopting dual-slot and cross-shaped feed line, the bandwidth is significantly enhanced by 196% compared with the single-slot antenna with straight feed line. The reason for bandwidth enhancement has been analyzed. The proposed antenna shows a measured impedance bandwidth of 15.2 GHz from 248.2 to 263.4 GHz for |S11| < −10 dB. The simulated and measured peak gains of the cavity-backed dual-slot antenna are −1.3 and −2.1 dBi, respectively. The simulated radiation efficiency is 31.1%. The total size of the antenna is 0.46 mm × 0.48 mm.

Streszczenie:
In the design of circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) arrays, the regular-shaped DRAs with simple feeding configurations are mostly used as array elements to make the design procedure more efficient. However, such array element DRA usually achieves only about 6% axial ratio (AR) bandwidth. In this paper, a CP DRA element coupled by a fractal cross-slot which can radiate efficiently and excite the rectangular DRA simultaneously is considered. By adjusting the dimensions of the fractal cross-slot properly, the resonances of the fractal cross-slot and the dielectric resonator can be merged to obtain a wider AR bandwidth. Based on the proposed fractal cross-slot-coupled CP DRA element, two different CP DRA arrays are designed: a wideband CP DRA array and a low-sidelobe-level (SLL) CP DRA array. The designed DRA arrays are fabricated and measured, and structures and performances of the arrays are presented and discussed.

The experimental and simulation results exhibit good impedance bandwidth, radiation pattern, and relatively constant gain over the entire band of frequency. Antenna gain and directivity at boresight and in their maximum states are close to each other and indicate high radiation efficiency. To use the antenna as a linearly polarized antenna, the radiation pattern in E-plane is better thanthat inH-plane.

Abstract The design and experimental verification of miniaturized cavity-backed self-triplexing antenna (STA) with high-isolation employing half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) are presented in this work. The proposed STA is constructed by using HMSIW, an Y-shaped slot and three 50Ω feed lines. Three unequal radiating patches are generated by engraving an Y-shaped slot on the top surface of the HMSIW cavity to operate at 3.7/5.0/5.8 GHz for WiMAX/WLAN applications. The proposed STA allows to realize one of the operating band independently by keeping other operating band unaltered and vice-versa. The circuit area of STA is highly miniaturized due to the use of HMSIW cavity and loading of Y-shaped slot. The isolations between three ports are greater than 31 dB. The fabricated STA provides 5.5, 5.92 and 5.93 dBi peak gains at 3.7, 5.0 and 5.8 GHz, respectively. The efficiency of the STA is greater than 92% at all the frequency bands. The constructed STA has a front-to-back ratio of more than 23 dB and a separation of more than 21 dB between co-to-cross polarization levels. Fabrication and measurement are used to validate the intended STA.

AbstractA polarization and band reconfigurable cross-slot antenna for multiband applications is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of four p–i–n diodes embedded in the cross-shaped slot in a ground plane and excited by a microstrip feed line. The p–i–n diodes are placed in such a way that they produce multiple bands, with linearly and circularly polarized (CP) radiation. By switching the states of the p–i–n diodes, the sense of rotation of the electric field in CP radiation can be reconfigured. The proposed structure can be configured to produce two bands that radiate linearly polarized waves or three bands, where, two are linearly polarized and one is CP. The proposed design concepts are validated bythe CST studio suite as well as measurementsare carried out on fabricated prototypes.

Streszczenie:
In this paper, a wideband circularly polarized (CP) filtering hybrid antenna is presented. The liquid dielectric resonator (DR) is excited by a microstrip-coupled cross-slot to generate CP radiation. Four inverted L-shaped strips are loaded on the ground plane to introduce an additional CP resonant point, then two adjacent axial ratio (AR) minima are combined to improve the bandwidth of the single-feed CP antenna. By etching a U-shaped slot and loading a C-shaped microstrip stub on the microstrip line, two tunable radiation nulls near the edges of the working band can be obtained without any extra filtering circuits. To verify the design, a filtering CP antenna is designed, fabricated, and tested. Measured results show that the antenna provides wider 3-dB AR and an impedance bandwidth of 38.8% from 1.36 to 2.02 GHz and 39.4% from 1.37 to 2.04 GHz, respectively. The realized gain of the proposed antenna is stable at about 7.8 dBi within the whole working band. A reasonable agreement between measured and simulated results is observed.

Streszczenie:
An ultracompact self-triplexing antenna realized on a substrate-integrated rectangular cavity (SIRC) is discussed in this study. The proposed structure employs two L-shaped slots and an inverted U-shaped slot to radiate at three independent operating frequency bands. Three 50-ohm microstrip feed lines were used to excite the radiation in these slots. The operating frequency was individually tuned using the slot size. The slot placement and size were designed having in mind considering obtaining one or more frequency bands below the SIRC cutoff frequency, which had the advantage of enabling an ultracompact size. High port isolation was achieved by applying one of the ports orthogonally to the two remaining ones, which created a weak cross-coupling channel. A lumped-circuit model was created to examine the antenna operation. The presented design has been prototyped and experimentally validated with the measured operating frequencies of 1.92 GHz, 4.43 GHz, and 5.25 GHz for GSM, 5G, and WLAN applications, respectively. The port isolations are better than 32.4 dB according to both EM simulations and measurements. Meanwhile, the measured realized gain of the antenna is better than 4.3 dBi at all bands.

In this paper, the design of a broadband multi-layer microstrip antenna is presented. The broadband characteristics are the results of coupled resonances of the patch and transmission line through the resonant aperture. For this purpose, a cross-shaped transmission line, a ring slot, and a shaped ring patch are used. The simulation and measurement results indicate that a wide impedance bandwidth of 70% for |S11| < −10 dB and a perfect impedance matching 35% for |S11| < −20 dB are achieved. The gain is stable over the impedance bandwidth. The maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 8.8 dBi at 5 GHz. The radiation pattern, radiation efficiency, and cross-polarization are also suitable throughout the impedance bandwidth.

A wideband dual-polarized slot antenna loaded with artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) is proposed for WLAN/WIMAX and LTE applications. The slot antenna mainly consists of two pairs of arrow-shaped slots along the diagonals of the square patch. Stepped microstrip feedlines are placed orthogonally to excite the horizontal and vertical polarizations of the antenna. To realize unidirectional radiation and low profile, an AMC surface composed of 7 × 7 unit cells is designed underneath a distance of 0.09λ0 (λ0 being the wavelength in free space at 2.25 GHz) from the slot antenna. Both the dual-polarized slot antenna and the AMC surface are fabricated and measured. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed antenna achieves for both polarizations a wide impedance bandwidth (return loss 10 dB) of 36.7%, operating from 1.96 to 2.84 GHz. The isolation between the two input ports keeps higher than 29 dB whereas the cross-polarization levels basically maintain lower than −30 dB across the entire frequency band. High front-to-back ratios better than 22 dB and a stable gain higher than 8 dBi are obtained over the whole band.

A single feed circularly polarized patch antenna is presented. The antenna consists of a rhombus-shaped slot incorporated in the radiating patch at its center. The antenna is designed to operate at 2.3 GHz band. The antenna achieves left-hand polarization or right-hand polarization based on the orientation of the slot in the radiating patch. The antenna parameters are synthesized using a high-frequency structure simulator and its characteristics are validated by the Agilent network analyzer (N9925A) and antenna test systems. The measured results obtained agree with simulated results and show that the antenna achieves −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 85 MHz (2.27 GHz–2.355 GHz) for left-hand polarization and 85 MHz (2.26 GHz–2.345 GHz) for right-hand polarization. The antenna gives a 3 dB axial ratio beamwidth of 95°(−35° ≤ AR ≤ 60°) for both left-hand polarization and right-hand polarization along with better 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 140° in the operating band. The antenna also achieves a good cross-polarization isolation of −17 dBic for both left-hand and right-hand polarization at its operating frequency. Hence, the antenna is best suited for modern wireless communication systems.

A new cascaded hexagonal ring-shaped metamaterial element is designed, which is arranged periodically and placed on the top of a traditional microstrip antenna to optimize the performance of the traditional antenna. The simulation results show that the new metamaterial microstrip antenna works at near 10 GHz, the impedance bandwidth is extended by 0.25 GHz and the gain is increased by 113.6% compared with a traditional microstrip antenna. Cross-shaped slots are etched on the ground plate of the microstrip antenna to widen the impedance bandwidth. It is shown that the impedance bandwidths at the resonant frequencies of 10 GHz and 14 GHz are broadened by 0.06 GHz and 0.56 GHz, respectively, and the gain of the slot-etched antenna is 13.454 dB. After the metamaterial unit structure is optimized, a nested double-hexagon ring-shaped electromagnetic metamaterial unit structure is proposed. The metamaterial slot microstrip antenna operates in two frequency bands of 10 GHz and 14 GHz; the relative bandwidths are increased to 16.9% and 19.4% with two working bandwidths of 1.74 GHz and 4.98 GHz, respectively; and the gain and directivity are also improved compared with the traditional microstrip antenna. The metamaterial unit structure proposed in this paper is of certain reference value for the variety of metamaterial and the application of metamaterial in traditional microstrip antennas.

The article demonstrates the potential applications of 3D scanning of composite slotted tools and the use of models as a basis for further scientific research. The scanning was carried out with high-precision equipment (Solutionix D700 scanner). The scanner provides high precision data acquisition of the geometry and surface of an artefact. As examples of archaeological artefacts we used composite slotted tools from the site of Kazachka-I. There were two bone tools from cultural layers 19 and 11. As a result of three-dimensional scanning application, a series of high-resolution scaled models was created. The series of cross-sections and metric measurements were made on the obtained models with the use of special software. Through analysis of cross-sectional shapes and comparison with experimental modelling data, conclusions on the basic process steps in slotted tools manufacture have been drawn. V-, U- and W-shaped cross-sections have been identified. Slots of bone tool from layer 19 has V- and U-shaped cross-sections. Slots of bone tool from layer 11 have U- and W-shaped cross-sections. The variety of cross-sectional shapes may indicate different techniques in the manufacture of the slots. The U-shaped cross-section may have been created by cutting the slot with a stone tool, the edge of which has been broken in the process. The W-shape may indicate that the direction of motion of the tool in this section was changed during operation. The V-shape was obtained by using a sharp tool throughout the slotting process. These conclusions are preliminary and need to be verified by a series of experiments and use-wear analysis.

This paper demonstrates a novel kind of cavity-backed self-quadplexing slot antenna for the S and C-band applications. The proposed antenna consists of 4 distinct “U”-shaped slots of different lengths and produces the quad frequency band for wireless communication systems. These slots are excited through the separate and orthogonal placed microstrip feed lines of 50 Ω; generates four distinct operating bands at 3.2 GHz, 4.1 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and 7.2 GHz. Due to the perturbation of different U-shaped slots over the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity with defined positions, the high intrinsic port isolation value is better than 30.5 dB. Thus, the proposed unique antenna structure combines the four independent operating bands with minimum mutual coupling and negligible interference among input ports, which shows the self-quadplexing feature of the antenna. The proposed antenna also has the property of frequency tunability with uni-directional radiation pattern and gain of 5.8 dBi, 5.4 dBi, 4.01 dBi, and 3.47 dBi at corresponding operated frequency. The cross-polarization is 17.3 dB and the front-to-back ratio higher than 21.5 dB at all operating quad bands. There is a good agreement between simulated |S|-parameters results and equivalent circuit model results.

The microstrip-line-fed design is then modified, by incorporating a U-shaped slot in its partial ground plane, to achieve additional operation band with a CP characteristic. Simulation and measured results of the presented designs are reported. The measured results are in accordance with the computed ones. The compact size and CP property make these designs suitable for RFID applications.

Abstract In this case, a substrate integrated waveguide technology is used in conjunction with a cavity-backed slot antenna. The modified slot antenna, in comparison to the dumbbell-shaped slot, not only adds numerous additional resonance spots, but it also enables the antenna to attain a better gain. In addition to this, the high-order resonant modes that are contained inside the sub cavity may be stimulated by the ground coplanar waveguide feeding structure if the high-order modes are brought into close proximity with one another. Based on the results of the test, it has been determined that the suggested antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth of 26.7% between 18.2 and 23.8 GHz and a peak gain of 9.5 dBi at 20.4 GHz. At each of the three frequencies that were tested, the cross-polarization levels of the antenna are around 40 dB. Antennas are recognised as being among the most important parts of any communication system. Because of this, antenna design is now one of the most active areas of study within the field of communication studies. In contrast, applications like as air traffic radar, satellite communications, and point-to-point terrestrial connection demand highly concentrated radiation patterns that also have a wideband and high gain. Because of this more focused radiation pattern, there will also be an increase in the communication range.

A novel circular polarized dielectric antenna array (DRA) for millimeter-wave applications at 30 GHz is presented in this paper. The unit element array is a flower-shaped DRA fed with a cross slot. To obtain circular polarization, a sequential network combined with the cross slots is used to feed the 2×2 array. The prototype of the proposed antenna array is fabricated and measured to obtain a wide resonance bandwidth from 27 GHz to 38 GHz frequency band. Furthermore, this left-hand polarized antenna array has achieved a peak gain of 9.5 dBi with 3-dB axial ratio at 30 GHz. The proposed DRA array with wideband resonance and gain bandwidth has the potential to be used for millimeter-wave wireless communications at the 30 GHz band.

In this paper, a trinotch band MIMO antenna is designed for upper and lower WLAN (5.1 GHz, 5.5 GHz) i.e., (802.11a/g/n/ac/ax) and satellite X-band (8.5 GHz). The placement of closely found notches at 5.1 GHz and 5.5 GHz is addressed by taking advantage from the placement of the same notch elements at appropriate distances from each other, to split single resonance into biresonances. Similarly, the third notch is produced at 8.5 GHz via a U-shaped slot added in the antenna. 2x1-MIMO antenna with notch bands is expected with better isolation by analysis of co-configurations and cross-configurations.

AbstractA half mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) based leaky wave antenna (LWA) featuring low cross-polarization is proposed in this paper. The umbrella-shaped slot (the combination of longitudinal and transverse slots) is etched on the top layer of HMSIW LWA to get the efficient broadside radiation. The scanning range is obtained from −47° to +30° in a frequency range of 8.3 to 15.1 GHz. The cross-polarization level for the LWA is around −10 dB at broadside. In order to improve the cross-polarization levels in HMSIW LWA, two antennas are placed face to face obtaining the balanced symmetry across the longitudinal axis. Both the simulated and measured results show that the antenna is able to scan continuously from backward to forward direction with a very good low cross-polarization level. The developed prototype is capable of continuous beam scan from −29° to +32° in an operating frequency band of 9.2 to 15 GHz with a maximum gain of 13.5 dBi. The measured cross-polarization level is −30 dB which is quite low for the main beam at the broadside direction.

A 2 × 2 wideband circularly polarized (CP) antenna array operating at millimeter wave (mmWave) band is presented. The array element is a wideband CP Archimedean spiral radiator with special-shaped ring slot. The elements are fed by an unequal amplitude (UA) feeding network based on a microstrip line (MSL) power divider. The side lobe level is improved by this UA feeding network. In addition, a cross slot is employed to isolate the elements for decoupling. A prototype is fabricated, and the measured results show that the proposed array achieves an impedance bandwidth (IBW) of 6.31 GHz (22.5% referring to 28 GHz) and an axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 7.32 GHz (26.1% referring to 28 GHz). The peak gain of the proposed array is 11.3 dBic, and the gain is greater than 9.3 dBic within the whole desired band (from 25 GHz to 31 GHz). The proposed array consists of only one substrate layer and can be built by the conventional printed circuit board technology. Attributed to the characteristics of wide bandwidth, simple structure, low profile, and low cost, the proposed antenna array has a great potential in mmWave wireless communications.

We consider the stability of a rectilinear liquid region whose boundary is composed of a solid cylindrical substrate of arbitrary shape and a free surface whose cross-section, in the absence of gravity, is a circular arc. The liquid–solid contact angle is a prescribed material property. A variational technique, using an energy functional, is developed that predicts the minimum wavelength for transverse instability under the action of capillarity. Conversely, certain configurations are absolutely stable and a simple stability criterion is derived. Stability is guaranteed if, for given substrate geometry and given contact angle, the unperturbed meniscus pressure is an increasing function of the liquid cross-sectional area. The analysis is applied to a variety of liquid/substrate configurations including (i) a liquid ridge with contact lines pinned to the sharp edges of a slot or groove, (ii) liquid ridges with free contact lines on flat and wedge-shaped substrates as well as substrates of circular or elliptical cross-section. Results are consistent with special cases previously treated including those that employ a slope-small-slope approximation.

An X-band dual-polarized Vivaldi antenna with high isolation is proposed. The procedure of this antenna design includes the conventional Vivaldi antenna with regular slot edge (RSE), the dual-polarized Vivaldi antenna with two Vivaldi antennas which have different feeding point positions in a cross-shaped form, and the two Vivaldi antennas with a galvanic contact in soldering point. By applying the RSE, it reduced the dimensions of the Vivaldi antenna and improved its radiation performance. The modified antenna is fabricated and measured. The measured results show that S11<-10 dB at the entire X-band for the two Vivaldi antennas. The isolation (S21) between the two feeding ports, which has been improved by applying the different feeding point positions and the galvanic contact in soldering point, is better than 34 dB at X-band. In addition, the cross-polarized discrimination is better than 21 dB for the two Vivaldi antennas, and the measured results also include the gain of two Vivaldi antennas.

The proposed metamaterial unit cell features a circular shaped structure, with rectangular strip lines connected in the form of a cross leaving a square shaped slot at center. The unit cell dimensions are 15×15×1.6 mm. The absorber was etched on a low cost FR4 substrate having a dielectric constant of 4.4. Ansys high frequency structure simulator (HFSS) software was used for simulation and the analysis were carried out for unit cell, 2×2, 3×3, and 4×4 array structures. The absorber parameters plotted are absorption characteristics and reflection characteristics. Also, the metamaterial parameters (μeff) and (εeff) are also retrieved from the absorber parameters and analyzed. From the analysis, the values (μeff) and (εeff) were found to be negative, leaving refractive index also negative (n&lt;0), which proved the metamaterial property. The proposed CRM absorber showed good absorption characteristics of more than 80% and also metamaterial property in the entire UWB band (4-13 GHz). Hence the absorber proves to be a good candidate in powering low power sensors/microcontrollers for internet of things (IoT) applications.</span>

In the present study, a set of novel clamping apparatus that could deliver biaxial stretching motions with the use of a uniaxial tensile testing machine was designed and manufactured. The conversion of uniaxial motion into biaxial stretching motions is achieved by a sliding mechanism that consists of two blocks sliding in two mutually perpendicular grooves, respectively. During the biaxial tension test, a cross-shaped specimen sitting in the grooves are stretched by the two blocks driven by a pulling rod. The different stress ratios could be obtained by adjusting the groove surface shape and the lengths of specimen wings. In the clamping apparatus design stage, the finite element simulations were performed to examine the validity of the sliding mechanism and the frictional force generated between the sliding blocks and the grooves. The coefficient of friction was determined afterwards from the comparison of the pulling forces obtained in the experiments with those calculated by the finite element simulations. In addition, the optimum geometry and dimension of the cross-shaped specimen used in the biaxial tension tests were investigated by the finite element analysis as well. The slotted specimen proposed by Kuwabara et al. was taken as the basic design. A sufficiently large area in the central region of specimen where the principal stress directions aligned with the groove direction was obtained for gluing the strain gauges to the specimen for the biaxial stretching tests. The number of slots and associated slot widths were also examined to optimize the shape of the specimens. The proposed clamping apparatus was manufactured and the biaxial tension tests were conducted with cross-shaped specimens made of advanced high strength steel sheets. The validity of the designed clamping apparatus used for biaxial tension tests was confirmed and the congruence of various yield criteria applied to the advanced high strength steel sheets subjected to biaxial stress states was discussed.

This antenna is designed on glass epoxy FR4 substrate having size 30 mm × 20 mm × 1.59 mm. The coplanar waveguide fed circular patch antenna is modified by introducing L shaped slits in ground plane and U shaped slot in patch and performance analysis of antenna is simulated by applying CST microwave studio simulation software. Different designed antennas were tested with available experimental facilities. This study aimed to develop a miniaturised rectangular microstrip patch antenna with a resonance frequency of 2.4 GHz. In order to achieve this, an initial microstrip antenna's resonance frequency was shifted from 3 GHz to a lower frequency by employing a defective ground structure (DGS) with a triangular-shaped slot into the ground plane. Also Triangular ring slots used defect the patch to improve co- and cross-polarization separation. Finally, a successful downsizing of up to 28% along the length and 18% along the width of the patch is achieved compared to the traditional 2.4 GHz microstrip antenna. The findings of the experiments have been obtained using high-frequency structure simulator software (HFSS). The substrate used in this work is RT/ Duroid 5880, which has a dielectric constant of 2.2 and a thickness of 1.575 mm.

This paper presents an original solution to design a compact dual circularly polarized isoflux antenna for nanosatellite applications. This kind of antenna has been previously designed in our laboratory, for a single circular polarization. This antenna is composed of a dual circularly polarized feed and a choke horn antenna. This feed is a cross-shaped slot in the ground plane, which provides coupling between a patch and a ring microstrip line with two ports. It is located at the center of a choke horn antenna. The simulated antenna presents an axial ratio <3 dB and a realized gain close to 0 dB over a 400 MHz bandwidth (8.0–8.4 GHz) at the limit of coverage, i.e. 65° whatever the azimuth angle (φ) and the port. A 20 dB matching for each port and 13 dB isolation characteristics between the two ports have been achieved on this bandwidth. It has been realized and successfully measured.

Numerous experimental investigations, predominantly determining the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and the heat transfer coefficient with film cooling dependent on parameters such as blowing ratio (M), density ratio (DR), velocity ratio (VR) and momentum flux ratio (IR) have been conducted in the past for a vast variety of geometries. To fully characterize a jet in cross-flow for its application in film cooling, thermal and aerodynamic parameters have to be analysed in conjunction. In the present work, detailed flow field measurements using Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (SPIV) are conducted at engine-realistic operating conditions in a test rig at the Institute of Thermal Turbomachinery (ITS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Additionally, thermal measurements using Infrared Thermography (IRT) are carried out to determine the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and the heat transfer coefficient with film cooling. Two film cooling hole geometries are analysed: A 10°-10°-10° laidback fan-shaped shaped film cooling hole (LFH10) and a slot geometry with a plenum-like inlet. Flow field data, and thermal film cooling quantities are analysed to quantify and characterize their aero-thermal behaviour. The significance of the stability and continuity of the exiting film cooling jets for the thermal performance is demonstrated to comprehend the differences in how efficiently the provided cooling air is used. It is shown that the absence of the counter-rotating vortex pair may not necessarily lead to an improved adiabatic film cooling effectiveness <inline-formula>ηa,W</inline-formula>.
