Streszczenie:
Background: The epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the pediatric population, with a focus on racial and ethnic disparities and impact of societal public health measures, remains poorly understood. Methods: This large observational study used electronically abstracted data from pediatric (≤ 19 years of age) patients who received a molecular test for SARS-CoV-2 at a UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC) site between March 8, 2020 and April 3, 2021 which was further supplemented by manual chart review of a subset of pediatric SARS-CoV-2 cases. Multivariable logistic regression models with interaction terms were used to identify risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Segmented regression analysis using Poisson models was used to estimate the effect of public health measures on the weekly incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Results: A total of 25,426 unique pediatric patients were tested for SARS-CoV-2 among whom 2,920 (11.5%) tested positive. The average age of those who tested positive was 10.8 years (SD: 5.8) and 48.1% were female. In the subset analysis, nearly three-quarters (75.9%) of SARS-CoV-2 diagnoses occurred through a telephone encounter, meaning that the child was not physically examined by a provider prior diagnosis and only 2.0% were admitted for inpatient care at diagnosis. Results of multivariable regression revealed that children or parents who self-reported Black race, Hispanic ethnicity, and non-English primary language were associated with approximately twice the odds of testing positive in comparison with White or English-speaking patients. Furthermore, increasing age was associated with increased odds of testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 (aOR: 1.1 (1-4 years), 1.2 (5-9 years), 1.4 (10-14 years), 1.6 (15-17 years), 1.7 (18-19 years)). However, this association between age and positivity rate, varies by race/ethnicity and primary language such that Non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and non-English speaking children had markedly greater odds of testing positive during adolescence in comparison to Non-Hispanic White and English-speaking counterparts. Results from segmented regression analysis demonstrated a decline in weekly incidence of cases 9.9% (95% CI: 7.8 – 11.9) after the Massachusetts state mask mandate was implemented. During the winter holidays, the rate of increase in the weekly incidence of cases was 12.1% (95% CI: 11.9 – 12.3) in this pediatric population. Conclusions: Many SARS-CoV-2 cases have been diagnosed at UMMHC sites and notable racial/ethnic disparities exist that vary based on patient age. Public health measures are effective at preventing transmission of SARS-CoV-2 among children.

This study investigates the resilience of coffee cooperatives and producer organizations in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and explores their adaptations to the context in relation to their livelihood capitals. The changes to their operations are analyzed through the contexts of shocks, trends and stresses and how they perceived these threats. The topic of research is relevant given the economic and social importance of cooperatives in these communities and potential impacts to their operations during COVID-19, which is likely to have long-term impacts locally and within the global setting. There is a lack of consensus regarding the classification of cooperatives as resilient organizations, with much of the previous research focusing on financial crisis or natural disasters. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has been an unprecedented event on a global scale with far-reaching impacts into social, economic and political spheres, and examining these effects is still a developing realm within academic research. The relationship of coffee producers and their organizations within the global commodity chains renders such organizations particularly vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19 and government policy interventions. Investigating how coffee cooperatives in Honduras have been operating throughout the COVID-19 pandemic assesses their potential capacity for resilience by examining how they have been impacted and the manners in which they have overcome these challenges. This further allows for increased understanding of cooperative resilience and ways in which cooperatives’ capital have the potential to impact their resilience. This research follows an abductive qualitative case study and utilizes semi-structured interviews from various coffee cooperatives and organizations in Honduras as primary sources with existing literature as secondary sources. The interviews were conducted remotely. The findings include accounts from cooperatives and producer organizations, which focus primarily on coffee production, in addition to reports from a privately owned coffee production enterprise and a cooperative member. The Vulnerability Context and Asset Pentagon, components of the Sustainable Rural Livelihoods Framework as described by the Department for International Development, were used to analyze the data, along with variables to assess organizational resilience. The study finds that investments to organizations’ human and social capital were prioritized and heavily relied upon during this crisis and the more established organizations had a larger range of resources from which to draw upon. Nevertheless, by continuing to develop and expand on human and social capital, cooperative organizations can increase their capacity for resilience.

In response to the crisis majority of the hotels all around the world had decided to get closed temporarily. Such a deep crisis arose many social problems especially among the employees of the industry. However, there were still cases, when hotels decided to choose different strategies rather than closing their doors for their customers. One of us had a great opportunity to spend 14 days of quarantine in one of such hotels and to collect the valuable information from inside the hotel room, which had been converted into a quarantine zone after the virus outbreak. Besides, we also explored several more cases from 4 different countries about the hotels that have chosen to create social benefits in different ways. In this thesis, we have analyzed socially sustainable strategic solutions from the hotel industry, explored characteristics, and described the circumstances that encouraged such solutions.

Streszczenie:
This paper analyzes how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the Swedish housing market, and in particular prices and shifts in trends. Different classes of housing objects in various counties are investigated. Combining web scraped housing data for the entirety of Sweden between 2016-01-01 and 2021-03-31, including economic, demographic, socioeconomic and locational data, a hedonic regression model is used to estimate how different variables influence the housing price. The base model is subsequently used to investigate if statistically significant structural breaks exist in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic for the different object types in the entire Swedish market and in certain specific counties. Structural breaks are found for the housing object types ‘Fritidshus’, ‘Lägenhet’ and ‘Radhus’ in the entire Swedish market and for “Villa” in Stockholm county shortly after the pandemic outbreak, suggesting there is evidence for a pandemic infused shift in housing price regime on the Swedish housing market for these object types in stated areas. Splitting the hedonic regression model into three, one pooled regression, one before and one after the identified breaks, and comparing the shifts in impact of the housing price determinants suggests different pandemic effects on different object types. The result indicates that for the object types ‘Lägenhet’ in the entire country and for ‘Villa’ in Stockholm county, living area has an increased impact on the price while the locational variable population density has a decreased impact after the breakpoint date compared to before. This could suggest that for permanent housing objects in these regions, living area might have become increasingly valued over location during the pandemic. The results further indicate the direct opposite effect on the shifted impact in living area and the population density for the price of the temporary housing type Fritidshus in entire Sweden. However, an indication for increased impact of the areas socioeconomic level is noted for all these three object types. These results hold as a ground for further research in the subject.

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the reactions and expressions towards the governmental regulations amongst  Swedes in Spain during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a qualitative online ethnographic case study where a online forum is analysed through a content analysis. The data has been understood through intersectionality theory, biopolitics as outlined by Michel Foucault and Sara Ahmed’s work on the cultural politics of emotions. The analysis identified various themes and as well as emotions circulating around these. Swedes in Spain are expressing their frustration and critique towards illogical and counterproductive regulations as well as showing irritation directed to their freedom of movement being taken away. Frustration and uncertainty are circulating in the discussions. Sociocultural categories such as class, nationality, gender and age as well as how they intensifie each other appear. The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting people in various ways, and the intersectional lens makes it possible to analyse how people depending on their privileges (or lack of) are able to cope with the regulations. This research shows on the importance of an feminist intersectional lens when evaluating the effects of the regulations during the Covid-19 pandemic in each country.

Streszczenie:
The COVID-19 pandemic had a worldwide economic effect, and it seems to have produced a challenging economic climate for startups to work in. Thus, the aim of this degree project is to investigate how startups survived the financial and organizational crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and what was the role of their employees during the crisis. The objective is to look at how early-stage startups in Greece are dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, whether they can utilize crisis management models, and how the crisis encourages creative destruction. Schumpeterian innovation theory has been merged with crisis management theories to achieve this goal. The thesis employs a qualitative methodology and uses a multiple case study design where cases are the individual startups interviewed. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with a top-management representative of each company.  The results indicate that the startups under discussion are experiencing significant changes. At the beginning of the crisis, they faced a threatening disengagement and demotivation of their employees, which they managed to overcome by focusing on their wellbeing, coaching them, and guiding them through the crisis. The Caplanian model was utilized to analyze their approach. Based on the companies’ core competencies, they are actively pivoting to emerging business models and new markets. These companies are discovering new possibilities and innovating in a number of areas, following both the Schumpeterian evolutionary theories of creative destruction and creative accumulation. Overall, the findings suggest that in responding to the crisis, startups modified and strengthened their strategies. The shift in customer purchasing behavior was a major reason why businesses needed to develop their strategies. The modified consumer behavior was the outcome of actions taken by the Greek government and the Public Health Agency to avoid the spread of the virus such as social distancing, travel bans, and closed borders.

This thesis aims to contribute to research on Academic English editing by examining the copy-editing and revision work on The Italian Economy after COVID-19: Short-term Costs and Long-term Adjustments, a collection of scholarly contributions on the socioeconomic and political consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy. The work was completed by three language professionals hired by the publisher, Bononia University Press (BUP). At the time, they were working for BUP as interns for the Digital Open Transformation (DOT) project, a collaboration between the publisher and the Department of Interpreting and Translation (DIT), University of Bologna. Through a corpus-based approach, this thesis seeks to reveal the possible cross-reviser inconsistencies due to individual inclinations and preferences in their editing and revision work and discuss the possible reasons behind them, thus providing evidence to the indispensability of well-defined rules and a functional workflow for Academic English editors and revisers. In Chapter 1, previous literature, covering both research on editing and revision and genre-based research on Academic English, is reviewed. In Chapter 2, a brief account of the project setting, including information on the publisher, the revised book and the major participants in its publication process, the three revisers studied in this thesis, and their copy-editing and revision workflow, is provided. In Chapter 3, the methodology of this study is explained, along with the materials and tools used. In Chapter 4, the results of the analyses are presented and an attempt is made to discuss the possible reasons behind such inconsistencies based on previous literature, the revisers’ background information, and the project setting.

Streszczenie:
Organizations are faced with a continual battle: doing whatever necessary in order to reduce costs and increase productivity. Several studies show that absenteeism is one of the greatest cost affecting businesses. With absenteeism is intended the cost related to employee’s absence, meaning all those days and working hours in which employees were supposed to be at work but for some reasons they weren’t. There are several reasons behind worker’s absence, from stress to personal and family issues, however this thesis will not focus only on the psychological reason behind the absenteeism problem. The main issues that it wants to deepen regard how firms are able to track and control absenteeism putting in place efficient absence management systems and how they are able to reduce it by developing new and innovative solutions. Moreover, even if the absence rate has always been tremendously high, companies nowadays during the covid-19 pandemic are struggling even more to try to monitor it, with the aim of avoiding further performance problem other than those brought by the pandemic. Thus, the real aim of this thesis is to show thanks to a case study of Luxottica, the company in which I have been working for the last 4 months, how the trend of absenteeism change and how this is connected to an increase in company costs. Moreover, I want to show how the cost has been strongly affected by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and how the company is putting in place solutions in order to limit its negative effects. The thesis will be started by looking at the literature review from google scholar, management journals and several surveys answered by firms on the topic both at the Italian and also at the international level. Then the topics will be deepened with the analysis of the Luxottica absenteeism trend. The focus will be on measuring the absenteeism cost in Luxottica and comparing it with financial results in order to see how strongly its impact on company performance is, giving also a taste of which are the main initiatives put in place by the company to reduce this problem (for example, change in smart working %, initiatives to foster presence at work and to protect employees while working during the pandemic period).

When global complications occur firms must possess the capability to work around the new obstacles and aim to proceed with their operations as normal as possible. With the Covid-19 situation escalating day by day, the worries regarding if the companies of the world grow consequentially. This research has then been conducted with multiple cases in order to understand if the supply chains for production firms as well as service supply chains for service firms has been compromised in any way. If this is the case, the authors also aimed to find out whether there were any specific measures within the supply chains that can be applied to lower the negative consequences. To gain another level of depth to the understanding of the situation, the authors also chose to analyze the risk management aspect of the selected firms, to see if a lack of risk management and risk preparedness can affect the issues for the firm. The findings of this paper ultimately reveal that cases with a high level of internalization and that are operating with a service supply chain are managing the urgent situation to a better degree, with fewer complications due to Covid19.

Background:COVID-19 is the most discussed topic since the beginning of the year. Moreover, today's society faces various problems caused by the COVID-19 crisis requiring new knowledge and strategies since various social institutions are affected in different ways, and the education system is included between these institutions. In fact, higher education institutions witnessed a huge transition from traditional classroom-based teaching to a virtual approach and online education. While higher education may have transformed and moved to online due to COVID-19, it is unknown whether the transition resulted in a changeddirectionfor education management. Purpose:This study aims to take a deeper look into how students and teachers are affected by COVID-19 for a higher education institution in Sweden by seeking through how online platforms are used and how it is affecting the users of education. Moreover, the study aims to know what changed in management practices and grading strategies fora sustainable university education quality during pandemics and emergencies. Method:Fulfilling the purpose, qualitative research design gathering empirical data by conducting semi-structured interviews with both students and teachers and taking a single case study approach for Swedish higher education Institute (Jönköping University) using the benefit of various perspectives from different schools that Jönköping University has. Also, higher education in Sweden combines the perspective from both students and teachers as it is on the concept 'freedom with responsibility' with students mainly pursuing their studies on their own or in groups and not focusing on the teacher perspective only. Another unique asset for Sweden higher education is the possibility to access all data collected about schools and students, such as grades which are classified as secondary data. Conclusion:The results show that thetransition affected the education managementsince it impactedthe organizing and communicating. Thenresults showed some factors, such as an earlier experienceplayed a role inadapting education management changessincea new concept of teaching developed withinthis transition with adapted teaching strategies, and students responded to that byimproved learning plans. Anothermain finding ineducation management aspects is the grading strategieswhereit was found that the criteria did not change, but exams got modified, leading to changesin thegradepatternsthat can be described as unnormal.

Furthermore, with the help of a systematic literature review we have identified five main areas which are the basis for our theoretical framework. Throughout the study, the collected data is related to five main areas, which are: leadership, communication, trust, collaboration, and meetings. The key takeaways are the difficulties of leading a team over distance. Communication is more important than ever. How you best create a trustworthy workplace where the staff stands firm, trusts each other as well as maintain their cooperation at a distance are important and what approaches should be taken when it comes to virtual meetings. Lastly, this thesis contributes to the theoretical knowledge with the new framework and to the practical knowledge by providing guidelines for managers of virtual teams.

Friborg, Nadja. "Securitizing COVID-19 : A case study of negotiated securitization between securitizing actor & the public in Norway". Thesis, Försvarshögskolan, 2021. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:fhs:diva-9915.

Streszczenie:
This thesis analyzed the securitization of COVID-19 in Norway as a negotiation of meaning between the public and Norway’s prime minister. By employing framing analysis and a sociological approach to securitization, this thesis breaks with the binary view of ‘audience acceptance’ in securitization theory’s original framework. Instead, it argues for the relevance of understanding securitization in the context of COVID-19 as an intersubjective process between securitizing actor and audience. While scholars have tended to overlook the audience’s role in securitization processes, this thesis analyzed both the securitizing actor’s and the audience’s perspective. This made it possible to reveal competing views regarding threat perception and emergency measures.  The thesis contributed to the theoretical debate on the audience by highlighting the special ingrained role the public has been assigned in this particular securitization context. The nuanced analysis of audience acceptance showed that despite a general resonance regarding the threat perception, it revealed important tensions regarding the measures and the audience’s participatory role in the process. This questions whether COVID-19 in Norway can be considered to have been ‘successfully securitized’.

As a global disaster, the COVID-19 pandemic (coronavirus)  has an impact on the whole world economy. The pandemic threatens the survival of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) globally and nationally. It appears inevitable that this pandemic has created a difficult business environment for small and medium sized enterprises to operate in. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a chain of events that have led to an economic crisis. The driving factor have been the Swedish government’s recommendations to the population to stay at home and exercise social distancing. This has led to a declining household consumption in Sweden and thus also reductions in production in the country. Thus, the purpose of this degree project was to examine how three small and medium sized enterprises businesses adapted their way of marketing in order to survive the economic crisis that came with the COVID-19 pandemic. The research has been conducted within the context of three small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the hospitality industry in Norrbotten.  To gain deeper knowledge on how SMEs in Norrbotten changed their way of marketing during this economic crisis, a qualitative research approach was pursued. A multiple case study was administered against three contrasting organizations in Norrbotten to collect data in order to delve into the chosen subject more. The gathered data was collected through interviews. The findings of this study proves that the three small and medium sized enterprises were affected by the economic crisis that came with the coronavirus. Overall, the main findings shows that the three SMEs adapted and improved their marketing mix as a response to the crisis. The key factor in why the three companies had to improve their marketing mix was the change of the consumer buying behavior. The changed customer behavior was a result of the Swedish government and the Public Health Agency measures to prevent the spread of the virus: social distancing, traveling restrictions and closed borders.

As the world continues to globalize, the need for sustainability is becoming increasingly evident. In the tourism industry, an industry that employs 1 out of 10 globally, this is especially true. This industry is composed of a complex web of systems that ebb and flow in unison. The ripple effect of a crisis in this industry can be far-reaching and can negatively impact all global tourism systems. For this reason, tourism stakeholders need to prioritize sustainability, which will strengthen their resilience and ensure that they are well equipped to deal with complex challenges. This paper examines the immediate impact of COVID-19 on tourism stakeholders in Bend, Oregon. Semi-structured interviews were used to explore this subject and shed light on how resilience and adaptive capacity helped specific stakeholders cope during this crisis. This research revealed that the COVID-19 crisis severely impacted all of the tourism stakeholders that were interviewed. Though all stakeholders were impacted, their ability to cope with, adapt to, and innovate during this crisis significantly varied. This research highlights the importance of prioritizing resilience within the tourism industry to ensure that tourism stakeholders will be able to cope with the complex challenges that they encounter as our world continues to change.

Digital transformation has been an important, popular and revolutionary topic for research fordecades. Constant and rapid updating digital technologies and tools have mainly influencedthe phenomenon of digital transformation to remain interesting and evolving whileemphasizing the significant importance of other concepts related to digital transformationsuch as challenges and opportunities. However, when compared with the otherindustries/areas, digital transformation of education, has been a slow process; especially inthe developing countries. When Covid-19 crisis hit the world, the importance ofdigitizing/digitalizing/digitally transforming businesses was highlighted more than ever andmany organizations and institutes had no other option than accepting digitalization; includingmajority of educational institutes around the world. This thesis aim to understand the challenges faced by a primary school located in a relativelyrural area in Sri Lanka, when implementing digitalization of education within the school forthe first time from 13th March 2020 till 17th August 2020, due to the impact of Covid-19 crisisinfluenced temporary closure of the school. To answer the research question of this study, data was collected qualitatively using semi-structured interviews from carefully chosenrespondents. According to the collected data, it was emphasized that the main challengesfaced by the school when digitalizing education involved: digital literacy, infrastructure, internet and other related services, traditional structure of education, and economy relatedissues. During the analysis of the case study built based on the empirical results, it isdiscussed how the identified challenges affects self-efficacy of users and how thesechallenges can be addressed in order to improve digitalization od education in Sri Lanka. When analysing results in compliance with the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), it wasinteresting to see how Covid-19 pandemic has acted as a strong external variable to influencethe traditional structure of TAM and its‘ components, causing perceived usefulness oftechnology to act solely as the primary factor that motivated technology acceptance by usersin the study setting. The findings also leave it questionable whether if it is still required in thefuture to address the existing challenge of ‗resistance‘ as one of the most importantchallenges related to digital transformation. This study also discusses how Covid-19pandemic impacted on the pace of digital transformation globally that it has become asubstantial experience to motivate digitalization of education in Sri Lanka and otherdeveloping countries.4The study suggests more extensive investigation on unheard digitalization stories in thedeveloping world and highlights the importance of contributing more varied case studies toliterature. The Covid-19 pandemic that erupted in 2020 has impacted most livelihoods and increased poverty levels worldwide. This thesis considers the impact which the Corona pandemic has had on Ukrainian seasonal migrant workers’ livelihoods in Poland. The societal travel restrictions’ short-term effects on the seasonal livelihoods are investigated along with the subsequent short-term coping strategies used by the seasonal migrant workers. The study draws on primary data from 10 semi-structured, digital interviews conducted with Ukrainian seasonal migrant workers from different sectors who worked in Poland during the pandemic period. Through the Sustainable Livelihood Framework, the cases were individually considered whilst also comparing within the sample groups from the sectors agriculture, construction, domestic services, culinary, and warehouse work. The findings of the study show that the seasonal migration livelihood strategy was resilient, lowered vulnerability, and allowed for sustainable livelihood outcomes despite the Corona pandemic. Travel restrictions and other institutional processes enabled or disabled the seasonal workers. Despite the Corona pandemic, the seasonal migration livelihood strategy was used as a short-, medium- and long-term strategy to alleviate poverty. The study increases the multidimensional understanding of the pandemic effects on Ukrainian seasonal workers in Poland. Therefore, this research provides an understanding of poverty alleviation, seasonal migration livelihood strategies, and resilience in a pandemic context.

The global upheaval caused by COVID-19 in 2020 has by many been considered as the biggest accelerator for digitalization in various areas, and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are no exception to this. Universities had to abruptly shift to digital formats also termed e-learning. Some universities have been better prepared for online teaching than others, but for most within the educational community it has been a new experience to study or teach most if not all courses online without any further physical touch points. Due to the semester schedule, lecturers and students at Munich Business School had to adapt during an on-going semester and switch their way of teaching and learning more or less overnight, from offline teaching only to online teaching only. This situation has offered a unique opportunity to add to the literature on effective learning as well as e-learning by comparing exclusively offline and online learning environments across the same student population and measuring their impact on perceived learning success. This unique situation has further allowed for the development of a new model to explain possible drivers of perceived learning success under such circumstances. While an unexpected upheaval like COVID-19 may not happen in this exact same scenario again, new pandemics and global crises can easily impact future teaching environments in a similar manner, at least with regards to the limited time available to make such a switch. Consequently, the model presented here encourages further research and, if sufficiently validated in future research, has the power to provide insights into how to design an effective learning environment in HEI.

Streszczenie:
2020 has been a year thoroughly marked by the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the ways in which different governments have sought to manage the crisis have sparked controversy. This paper aims to challenge and ultimately falsify the theory of “authoritarian advantage” in crisis management using a single-case study design of most-likely logic. This is done by performing a case study of the initial outbreak of COVID-19 in China based on the argument that contrary to suggestions made by previous research, the measures undertaken by the Chinese regime in the initial phase of the crisis do not exhibit the advantages expected of an authoritarian political system. The study goes on to reconstruct the chain of events during the initial response and analyzes whether the response unfolds as expected by set theoretical criteria of benefiting from China’s institutional preconditions. The analysis finds that the theory of “authoritarian advantage” loses credibility in this case, and further allows for the conclusion that any “advantages” of the regime are largely offset by critical “disadvantages”. This leads to a discussion opening up for the possibility that there is no single political system that is best suited for crisis management, as different systems enjoy different strengths as well as weaknesses. Understanding the circumstances of this is also recommended as a field of future research.

Mushers, sledges, and husky teams run through Lapland for approximately 5000 years already to move goods, travel, and even military purposes. Nowadays, the mushing tradition has entered the local culture and evolved into a professional vocation for numerous entrepreneurs. Husky sledging companies of different sizes and business cultures meet the increasing touristic demand for sledging rides and safaris in the Finnish wilderness. Husky tours constitute a unique selling point for lots of Arctic destinations because part of the “to-do list” of every tourist exploring the extreme North. Despite the growing interests shown by visitors, the academic world has almost never focused any attention or resources to research the husky sledging industry. Since the covid-19 spread also in Lapland, the entire husky sledging business is condemned to face severe consequences and deal with wicked problems. This thesis aims to fill the research gap on the husky safari business and to offer husky tour companies support in mitigating the economic impacts caused by the pandemic outbreak. The investigation is based on the participatory action research realised in collaboration with Bearhill Husky, a dog sledging company operating in Rovaniemi. Design Thinking has been applied as a research methodology to develop sustainable solutions that could help the company survive the crisis. The aim is to prove that, under certain conditions, Design Thinking can succeed in this intent and to inspire other kennels to apply this methodology for developing resilience and sustainable innovation. This research looks at what has been destroyed and sees room for growth and progress and teaches that sometimes the problem is our approach towards it.

This study explores how managers perceive the change in their teams’ productivity, as a result of moving from an office-based workspace to a virtual workspace. In the circumstances of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and its resulting restrictions and recommendations, there has been a mass relocation to working virtually from home. To establish if there has been any perceived change in employee productivity, several different factors such as communication, team unity, and trust were compared during two different time-points, before the start of the pandemic and 16 months into the pandemic. This is a hybrid study that makes use of both quantitative and qualitative properties, by first establishing a base of data through a survey, the initial observations were then explored further and to greater insight by interviewing a sample of the managers who took part in the survey.  The findings of the study suggest that the pandemic reflects an overall negative outcome on team productivity as a result of working virtually. The most affected team factors include communication, conflict resolution, and planning. There are however other effects to factors such as team unity and trust that may bear relational consequences. Ultimately, the findings of the current study indicate a generally negative effect on team productivity.

Over the past decade, digitalization has played an increasingly important and prominent role in the competitiveness of businesses. The pace of digitalization is not slowing down and has only intensified rapidly over recent years. Because of this, businesses that invest a significant amount of resources toward digitalization could increase and strengthen their competitive advantage and develop their digital maturity, which can be described as the technological functions and visions available for a firm. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the pace of digitalization was intensified further, and many businesses were forced to adapt their business activities through digital channels to stay operational. Furthermore, a specific field affected by the governmental restrictions was B2B sales interactions, which has caused several problems for firms that do not have sufficient technological functions to adapt to digital channels, the digital capabilities can be described as sufficient. To counteract the pandemic effects, organizational resilience is an aspect that is activated to aid companies in parrying the effects of the sudden shock, in this case, caused by COVID-19 and can be described as the resources made available by management to respond and adapt to unexpected events. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate how sales interactions were impacted, by investigating the level of digital maturity and organizational resilience of one specific company, during the COVID19 pandemic. This was conducted through an exploratory single case study of a global biomaterials company where digital maturity was measured through a survey followed by an in-depth interview to assess the company’s organizational resilience. The findings suggest a clear link between the digital maturity level of a firm and how well it can be utilized in organizational resilience efforts when re-shaping the business landscape. Furthermore, the study highlights that digitalization is becoming a prominent factor in the way businesses and sales are conducted and even more in the times of crisis, thus, highlighting the importance of digital maturity. Based on the insights gained from the in-depth interview, a conceptual framework called digital activation of resilience within sales interactions was constructed. This framework highlights what was discovered in this single case to be the main influences on sales interactions and how digital maturity aids the activation of resilience.

Background: The economic crisis derived from the COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on the global economy and Swedish small and medium-sized enterprises are challenged to adapt their practices to the new consumer buying behaviour. As a response to economic crises, where consumer buying behaviour changes, companies are forced to innovate their marketing methods.  Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how Swedish SMEs manage the economic crisis derived from the COVID-19 pandemic through the relatively unexplored relationship between crisis management and marketing innovation.  Method: This research is an exploratory qualitative study focusing on Swedish small and medium-sized enterprises where semi-structured interviews were held with seven participants who were marketing responsible. A thematic analysis was applied to analyse the empirical data.  Conclusion: The empirical findings and the analysis suggest three main areas when answering the research question. 1) Marketing innovation improved the crisis management practice among the interviewed enterprises. 2) Marketing innovation is a common crisis management tool among the respondents of this study, and one reason why is because of the high capacity to innovate of the interviewees. 3) A new type of crisis management is arising because of the technological advancements and business climate.

Streszczenie:
The aim of this thesis paper is to analyse the support of incubator and accelerator programs inthe German entrepreneurial ecosystem with the impact of COVID-19. Incubator and accelerator programs have been established across multiple innovation hubs worldwide over the last decade. They have become a substantial support system for entrepreneurship providing help for young companies to innovate. The benefits offered usually include access to capital, network, mentorship and office space in exchange for equity or to simply foster innovation. With a lot of uncertainties deriving from the current pandemic, entrepreneurship has an increasingly relevant role to ensure a flourishing economy in the future. As the world is adapting to new circumstances, incubators and accelerators need to reevaluate their support to startups as well. The literature review consists of relevant literature by elaborating on the existing entrepreneurial ecosystem theories. It further discusses incubators and accelerators and the German entrepreneurial market before introducing the theoretical framework for the paper. As part of the research, this thesis uses a collective case study method by conducting interviews with startup founders and employees of incubator and accelerator programs in Germany. The qualitative data collection will undergo a deductive reasoning approach to analyse the research phenomenon and to contribute to the field of entrepreneurship. After introducing each company from the collective case study, the empirical findings systematically lay out the data from the interviews by separating the data into a section for incubators and accelerators and a section for startups. The data highlights relevant changes regarding the support of the programs with and without the impact of COVID-19. The discussion chapter points out the findings by comparing the data with the literature and the theoretical framework. The findings are broken down into subsections that point out the importance of the support programs as well as the proposed changes in the offerings. Concluded, changes can be made in the area of mentorships and coachings as there is a need for more individuality. Also regular feedback cycles, a higher capital support and the change to a hybrid model with a remote and on-site structure as well as the use of software to stay connected are possibilities for accelerators and incubators to help the startups.

The spread of the Covid-19 pandemic has been since its early beginnings accompanied by the spread of the so called 'infodemic' of misinformation and conspiracy theories about the virus in the media. This infodemic swiftly started to present a matter of significant concern especially in the dynamic landscape of digital media which due to an ease of sharing and content contribution allowed for Covid-19 conspiracy theories to continue to gain momentum. Because of the severe implications that the potential ill-informed actions of conspiracy theory believers could have on the public health, it is necessary to gain a better understanding of the conspiracy theory believers and the way that they spread Covid-19 conspiracy theories. With this in mind, this thesis through the use of qualitative interviews probed into the worldviews of Covid-19 conspiracy theory believers in the Czech Republic. The analytical scrutiny of the interviews through the lens of the theories of network society, context collapse and echo chambers provided important insights into how Czech Covid-19 conspiracy theory believers use digital media in order to learn about and disseminate Covid-19 conspiracy theories. Additionally, this thesis provides an understanding of how the way the conspiracy theory believers navigate context collapse on Facebook drives them to seek echo chambers on e-mail which strengthen their beliefs in Covid-19 conspiracy theories. Moreover, my thesis also sheds light onto how the echo chambers are instrumental in the individuals' distrust in traditional media.

Streszczenie:
During the Covid-19 pandemic, employees all over the world were forced to work from home, meaning that consultants no longer could work physically present with their clients. As the consultant-client relationship is incredibly important for management consulting firms, it is interesting to investigate how these relationships have been impacted by the change and what the implications are for collaboration and performance. A qualitative method was used, where the authors conducted interviews with management consultants at an international management consulting firm in Stockholm, Sweden. The study found that remote working with already existing clients was functioning well. However, collaboration with new relations proved to be more challenging, which was mainly perceived to depend on the difficulty to create a personal trust and connection remotely, since digital communication made it difficult to understand the client’s needs. The digital way of working also revealed challenges with creativity, invisibility, onboarding, knowledge development and sales. Thus, the study concluded that collaborations and relationships will benefit greatly from a physical meeting early on. Nevertheless, the most beneficial working method would be to continuously balance the advantages of both remote and office working.

The aim of this research project was to contribute to the knowledge about the teaching practices taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic, by investigating the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in online teaching by five EFL (English as a foreign language) teachers and their experiences of transforming from classroom teaching to online teaching during the pandemic. Furthermore, this study has also investigated how these teachers believe online teaching has affected their students’ English learning. The data was collected by using semi-structured interviews. The data were later analyzed by thematic analyses, and divided into themes, sub-themes and codes. It was concluded that teachers had both positive and negative experiences from teaching online. The fact that the education could be continued from home and that the teachers had improved their teaching practices was frequently expressed in positive opinions. However, the results from the study also revealed that the teachers had mostly negative experiences in terms of the actual process of teaching online, personal feelings, and the effects on students’ English learning. Issues such as technical difficulties, teaching online being time consuming and inhibited interactions are among the negative experiences regarding online teaching. In addition, suggestions have been made on how to improve distance education and how teaching online in the future requires teachers to be educated in how to implement effective ICT tools in their online teaching.

During a time of physical restrictions, a lot of people have been forced to work from home, also known as teleworking. A Sifo survey conducted in 2020 shows that 96% of Sweden’s teleworkers want to continue working from home, even after the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, understanding how their motivation has been affected by teleworking is important to employers and managers that will have to organize a working environment to foster motivation among their employees. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate how individuals from the same work group, after the first year of the pandemic, perceive that their motivation has been affected by teleworking. The research questions are: “In what way has teleworking affected individuals’ motivation?” and “Which factors should be taken into consideration when continuing teleworking after the pandemic?”. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the results show that the majority of the informants’ motivation had not been affected by teleworking, although there were more advantages than disadvantages to teleworking; This was due to the great significance of the disadvantage of not being able to meet your colleagues in real life. For the future after the pandemic, a combination of working partly from home and partly from the office was preferred, as a way to receive all the advantages of teleworking, while also satisfying their social needs.

Streszczenie:
The increase of globalization of business led to the creation of global virtual software development teams in which communication plays an important role. The lack of recent studies raises the need to investigate communication in the context of agile and the current Covid-19 pandemic. This study identifies in literature three factors present in global virtual software development teams: technology, culture, and trust. It aims to explore how they influence internal communication. A qualitative method is conducted on a case study by combining data collected from semi-structured interviews and observations. The case study is a global virtual software development team which implemented the agile Scrum methodology. The findings provide a deep understanding of the positive and negative influences of the factors on communication, including their interrelations and context. Some of the main findings are: (I) the best set up for collaboration among global team members is the combination of synchronous and asynchronous communication through technological tools, (II) cultural diversity leads to differences in the ways members communicate, (III) trust is the precondition of working collaboratively and communicating effectively, (IV) global team members need to occasionally have in-person interactions to nurture their interpersonal relations, (V) the agile Scrum methodology influences internal communication positively, (VI) each communication factor is influenced by time; thus, the theoretical framework developed for this study is updated with this addition, (VII) the Covid- 19 pandemic affects communication to a certain extent.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the vulnerability of cities and set a new focus on planning sustainable and resilient cities. This thesis aims to assess the edible city, where edible plants are grown in public spaces, in terms of sustainability and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluate its contribution to urban sustainability and resilience. Further, it explores the implications for planning an edible city. As part of this case study, 10 semi-structured interviews were conducted in two edible cities: Edible City Andernach, Germany and Incredible Edible Todmorden, England. The results of this study demonstrate that both edible cities contribute to sustainability, but each is skewed towards one sustainability dimension. Concerning resilience, the study illustrates that both cases are able to withstand the pandemic impacts and adapt particularly in their focus sustainability dimension. However, general resilience is negatively impacted by a stance of waiting-it-out. For planning an edible city, a combination of a top-down and bottom-up approach is recommended. In conclusion, this thesis shows that the edible city contributes to urban sustainability and resilience through the continuing provision of ecosystem services and co-benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This research study is based on the way COVID-19 has affected the tourism businessesof the northern Dalarna region, Sweden. Moreover, how they responded to the crisis andif this response involved reconsidering their way of selling their touristic products. WithCOVID-19 effectively suspending the operations of the tourism sector such as air travel, the positive implications for climate change mitigation have been noted. This led toseveral speculations by researchers about the tourism industry taking this moment toreconsider their way of operating. However, these speculated decisions the tourismindustry will take amidst COVID-19 remain unproven. Therefore, this study aims todetermine how COVID-19 has affected the tourism companies of Northern Dalarna. Moreover, how these effects relate to conscious responses regarding climate changemitigation. Ultimately, this study intends to identify the relationship between the impactsof the present crisis COVID-19 and the future crisis that is climate change through thelens of the interviewed businesses in Northern Dalarna that effectively represent thetourism industry.Semi-structured interviews were employed as the main method for data collection. Seveninterviews of a diverse range of tourism businesses were conducted. The findingsacquired from the interviews show how these businesses have successfully overcome theeffects of COVID-19 while remaining open. The study concludes with very diverseperceptions of climate change from the companies. Moreover, how these perceptionshave evolved since the onset of COVID-19. Nevertheless, these companies had acommon point where independently of their opinion about climate change, all of themtook some actions to mitigate it. It was found that, for the case of Dalarna, Sweden,COVID-19 did not result in a moment for tourism companies to transform theirbusinesses to focus more on climate change mitigation. Business proceeded as usual interms of climate change mitigation and in the presence of COVID-19.There are several hypothetical studies on this topic, however, very few empirical studieswere found. This research contributes by showing how COVID-19 was not a time toconsider climate change mitigation according to the interviewed companies of NorthernDalarna, Sweden but merely a moment for minor adaptions.
