Streszczenie:
Carson Strong has argued that if human cloning were safe it should be available to some infertile couples as a matter of ethics and law. He holds that cloning by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) should be available as a reproductive option for infertile couples who could not otherwise have a child genetically related to one member of the couple. In this analysis, Strong overlooks an important category of people to whom his argument might apply, couples he has not failed to consider elsewhere. In this discussion, however, Strong refers exclusively to opposite sex couples facing obstacles such as surgically removed ovaries and the inability to produce sperm. In fact, however, there are many adult couples who, while fertile in and of themselves, are not fertile as couples. This group includes not only opposite sex couples but coupled same sex partners as well. I believe the defenses Strong offers regarding the use of SCNT by opposite sex infertile couples would extend to same sex couples for two reasons. First, some same sex couples might face the inability to have a genetically related child, and second, Strong's arguments ultimately ground a general defense of SCNT independent of the question of a couple's fertility.

Streszczenie:
Marriage is one of young adulthood’s developmental task. The beginning phase of marriage is often beyond expectation of the newlyweds, it is a hard adjustment time for the couples. Therefore, adjustment in this phase is crucial for future marriage quality. The aim of this research is to describe the dyadic adjustment of young adult couples in the beginning phase of their marriage, using Spanier’s dimension of dyadic adjustment. This reasearch use qualitative approach with interview and observation as data collection method. This research found that in dyadic consensus, one couple see a disagreement because of different way of thinking. In dyadic cohesion, one couple feel that they are lack of intimacy. In dyadic satisfaction, the couples tend to feel satisfied. While in affectional expression, the couples tend to express affection thruouh physical contact and behaviour that accord with their couple’s preference. Areas that could be improved are couple’s communication to reach dyadic concensus and couple’s intimacy to increase dyadic cohession.

Objective: To highlight difficulties that are unique to lesbian couples by reviewing the data that contrast lesbian and heterosexual couples and exploring the theories that explain the observed differences in couple dynamics. Method: A review of the literature contrasting demographics and relationship characteristics in lesbians and heterosexual couples was conducted, and a review of lesbian psychotherapy literature was performed. Results: The differences in couple dynamics may be attributed to female relational styles and the stresses of being in a relationship that is not socially sanctioned (homophobia). Conclusions: Therapists should not use heterosexual standards when evaluating lesbian relationships because this may lead to misconstruance of a couple's emotional intensity as pathological. They should, however, recognize the problems that stem from pathological levels of fusion. When evaluating a couple, clinicians must assess the level of internalized homophobia so as to understand when the couple's difficulties originate from unresolved conflicts over sexual orientation.

Abstract Purpose Infertility represents a peculiar social burden affecting more than 15% of couples, provoking it a real threat to the general quality of life and to the sexual health. The medicalization (diagnosis, therapy and follow up) of the lack of fertility is frequently a challenge in term of personal and couple’s involvement. In particular, while the Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) has allowed many infertile couples to achieve pregnancy, the therapeutic process faced by the couple bears a strong psychological stress that can affect the couple's quality of life, relationship and sexuality. Despite infertility affects both female and male sexual health, only recently the interest in the effects of ART on the couple's sexuality has grown, especially for women. Methods A literature research on the sexual dysfunction in fertility care and particularly in ART setting was performed. Results Literature largely found that intimacy and sexuality appear specifically impaired by intrusiveness of treatments and medical prescriptions. Moreover, there is a close relationship between emotional, psychological and sexual aspects, which can be integrated in the new concept of Inferto-Sex Syndrome (ISS) that can impair the ART treatment outcomes. Evidence demonstrates that the assessment of sexual function is necessary in couples undergoing diagnosis of infertility and ART. Conclusion A close relationship between infertility and sexuality, both in the female and male partners, was detected. ART treatments may heavily impact on the couple's psychosexual health. A couple-centred program for the integrated management of psychological and sexual dysfunction should be considered in the context of ART programs.

Health service visits are decreasing at the Primary Health Care level, including a decrease in premarital couple visits. This innovation aims to provide support and cross-sector cooperation in increasing health visits for couples before marriage. The implementation method in developing this innovation is to use the Research and Development design, which has 2 stages of activity. The first stage is to evaluate a couple's premarital visit through field studies using documents, interviews, and observations and determine strategic issues. The results show that the number of premarital couple visits has not reached 100% and is not optimal. This Sapu Cantik Innovation provides solutions for premarital couples as a form of cross-sectoral concern for the health of premarital couples. This innovation hopes to help and identify premarital couples who face health problems before, during, and after marriage to improve family health.

Some couples find in infertility the bonding opportunities that reinforce their relationship. Using an interpretative phenomenological analysis, this study examined marital benefits in three couples seeking fertility treatment. Interviews revealed five types of benefits: being engaged in a shared hardship, feeling closer to one another, feeling reassured in the relationship, developing a satisfying communication and support behaviors, and having faith in the couple’s capacity to face adversity. A dyadic analysis also illustrated how marital benefits developed in each couple. Marital benefits nourished marital satisfaction, thus underscoring their importance to help couples cope through fertility treatment.

Galvanic corrosion behavior of Ti-1023 titanium alloy coupled to LY12 aluminum alloy was investigated in 3.5% NaCl solution. Particular attention was given to the effect of anodized coatings on corrosion behaviors of Ti-1023/LY12 galvanic couple. Galvanic test was conducted on the following couples: Ti-1023/LY12, Ti-1023/anodized LY12 and anodized Ti-1023/anodized LY12, respectively. Corrosion properties including open circuit potential (Eoc) of each material, galvanic corrosion potential (Eg) and galvanic corrosion current (Ig) of the couples were monitored. Corrosion morphology was observed by optical microscope (OM) and corrosion mechanisms were analyzed and discussed. It was showed that anodized coatings significantly decreased Eg and Īg of the couples and provide effective protection of the anode from suffering corrosion attack. Only slight localized corrosion was detected on anodized LY12 alloy in the two anodized couples and the LY12 in anodized Ti-1023/anodized LY12 couple was found to be least susceptible to galvanic corrosion. The LY12 alloy in the bare couple: Ti-1023/LY12, was found to be highly susceptible to galvanic corrosion and suffered severe uniform and localized corrosion attack

Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), an empirically supported and evidence-based third-wave behavioral approach for treatment of couples, is examined in this multiple case study. Specifically, the qualitative experiences of therapists using IBCT in their work with intercultural couples are examined through each therapist’s typed responses to open-ended questions. Each participating therapist in this study contributes by describing one case in which IBCT was used to help the couple navigate cultural differences as part of treatment. This study describes the various stressors faced by intercultural couples, therapists’ formulations of cultural differences, change processes and change mechanisms during treatment, and similarities and differences across therapists’ reports. The study concludes with participating therapists’ recommendations for treatment of intercultural couples in general, and recommendations for utilizing IBCT with intercultural couples. Lastly, implications for future research are provided.

This thesis describes a program of research which aimed to identify the extent to which couple and stepfamily variables were associated with couple relationship adjustment and stability in stepfamily couples. Two studies were conducted. Study 1 consisted of 63 stepfamily couples who were in a committed relationship (married or cohabiting) and who had earlier taken part in an intervention program. It was hypothesised that positive couple relationship outcomes could be predicted by low couple aggression, high couple negativity, low couple withdrawal, high parenting disagreement, and high dysfunctional parenting over a 5-year period. The results did not support the hypotheses possibly due to low power in the design. In Study 2, 122 stepfamily couples who been living together (married or cohabiting) as a stepfamily were assessed on couple and stepfamily factors, and these were tested for their association with couple relationship adjustment and stability, using both self-report questionnaires and interview data. As predicted, stepfamily factors accounted for variance in couple stability above that accounted for by couple factors. Furthermore, stepfamily factors were associated with couple stability independent of couple adjustment. The influence of stepfamily couple relationship adjustment and stability seem distinctive from first-marriage couples. It was concluded that stepfamily relationship education programs for stepfamilies should address the unique needs of stepfamilies such as parenting education for inexperienced stepparents, the development of positive stepparent-stepchild relationships, and the building of stepfamily cohesion.

Streszczenie:
Discussion of money has become stigmatized in American culture. Money affects lifestyle, sense of security or one’s own sense of self worth, making conversations about so much more than just finances. Left alone, this can lead partners to develop a sense of resentment, mistrust or confusion about their joint financial situation. Combining information from user research, casual conversations, observations of those around me, and the current literature on marital conflict and money management, this project aims to provide a way for younger couples to approach financial conversations in a way that reduces the anxiety that often comes with the territory. I approached this by designing a game for the couple to play as a means of prompting discussion. By creating a game that fosters a comfortable, casual environment, they can learn and plan alongside each other while feeling cooperative rather than competitive or defensive. In this way, I am able to raise serious financial questions for the couple to consider moments after they are laughing about what cartoon character they most resemble. This shifts the focus from dread and tension to learning and strengthening their bond.

For love as a feeling to become a form of commitment, for passion to turn into a psychic couple, members will byuild a specific link, the conjugal bond. This link creates a gap between the partners, such a gap being necessary for each of them to be connected, and to live as an individual. The greater the desire for fusion, the more concrete the gapbecomes, leading to no sexual intercourse, somatizations, violent behaviour, appearence of an outsider. The couple symptom, created by the couple, itself, replaces the internalisation of the third agency. The link puts into place defensive collusions, wich are signs of fixation echoing the partners' pregenital histories. The return of the repressed leads real symptoms to appear and to a crisis. The psychical work supplied to overcome crises works out of collusion. With each other and through each other, the partners gradually untangle what had beeen previously condensed in thise collusions. The working over then leads onto the link either becoming stronger or disappearing totally, allowing each one to progressively integrate elements awaiting symbolisation that were until then collusive. Under such circumstances, the psychical work provided by the couple may be seen as organising or reorganising its psyche, and enabling the partners to work over again the original mourning and that of the oedipien parents. In order to achieve this work, the setting and the couple as supporting group agencies must be reliable and the link must be objectal and libidinal enough. Dual therapy offers consulting ailing partners to form such a supporting group agency. It enables the link to be created afresh, the workin out of the differentiation inside the dyad and the projections of the internal object upon the real objects

Streszczenie:
Interethnic relationships are increasingly common in society, yet interethnic couples also have a higher divorce rate compared to intraethnic couples. Given these facts, it is important that researchers identify factors that contribute to couples commitment in interethnic relationships, but to date, such research is rare. This thesis investigated the factors that contribute to the commitment of Chinese interethnic relationships. In order to do that, a qualitative study and a quantitative study were conducted. Johnson s commitment framework was found suitable in the qualitative study. Thus a cultural model that incorporated Johnson s personal commitment and a new construct couple cultural identity was established for the quantitative study to find whether love, satisfaction (i.e. dyadic adjustment) and couple cultural identity (i.e. acculturation to the partner and similarity of couple s individualism/collectivism) would predict personal commitment and whether each variable would account for unique variance in personal commitment of the participants. The quantitative study found significant relationships between love and personal commitment, satisfaction and personal commitment of Chinese interethnic couples. Also, couple cultural identity was important for women s personal commitment. These findings suggest that partners in interethnic relationships may define personal commitment in different ways with men emphasising love and satisfaction, and women emphasising love and acculturation to their partner.

The advanced alternative powertrains regarding their electrification bring as a consequence a large levels of recuperation implying a small intervention of the hydraulic system during the brake lifetime.

This new scenario for the brake system could have and important impact in the brake design regarding properties such as mu stability, corrosion/stiction, NVH… and the test design for their development. Moreover, the aftermarket for friction material and brake rotors is an important industry with significant commercial impact for all levels of the supply chain. How far is this trend also justified in technical terms? How should be designed the new brake systems and tested the new brake systems? Which is their environmental impact? Which are the main technical challenges regarding the longlife brake pad material, rotors, shims, backplates and calipers?New test need to be developed and harmonized?

Streszczenie:
In this paper we study the Hospitals/Residents problem with Couples (HRC), where a solution is a stable matching or a report that none exists. We present a novel polynomial-time algorithm that can find a near-feasible stable matching (adjusting the hospitals' capacities by at most 1) in an HRC instance where the couples' preferences are sub-responsive (i.e., if one member switches to a better hospital, than the couple also improves if the new pair is also acceptable) and sub-complete (i.e., each pair of hospitals that are individually acceptable to both members are jointly acceptable for the couple) by reducing it to an instance of the Stable Fixtures problem. We also present a polynomial-time algorithm for HRC in a sub-responsive, sub-complete instance that is a Dual Market, or where all couples are one of several possible types. Our polynomial-time solvability results greatly expand the class of known tractable instances of HRC. We complement our algorithms with several hardness results. We show that HRC with sub-responsive and sub-complete couples is NP-hard, even with other strong restrictions. We also show that HRC with a Dual Market is NP-hard under several simultaneous restrictions.

Streszczenie:
Gender differences in jealously have been traced back to both socio-cultural, as well as to evolutionary sources. The evolutionary approach predicts similar gender differences to be found in all cultures. Socio-cultural explanations, however, suggest that the patterns of gender differences may be culture-specific. The current study investigated gender differences in the relations between jealousy and infidelity in Mexico. 537 participants (248 men; 289 women) filled out an inventory of jealousy and infidelity, respectively. The results show first a positive relationship among infidelity, anger, fear, suspicion, frustration and distrust. Second, the data reveal a clear gender difference in that men desired sexual and emotional infidelity relationships more often than women. These findings are discussed regarding the importance of culture.

Streszczenie:
We measure the extent of discrimination against same-sex couples by schools in Colombia using a matched-pair correspondence study. We send requests to visit private schools from several couples of different sexual orientation as conveyed by the names of the parents. We track the response rate from schools, the time to reply and the quality of the reply. We find that schools are 12 percentage points (22.3%) less likely to respond to a request sent by a homosexual couple with respect to one sent by a heterosexual one. When no information about sexual orientation is provided, the response rate decreases by 20pp. (37%) versus an explicitly heterosexual couple. Conditional on replying, we find no difference in the time schools take to respond or the quality of the reply across couples, a result plausibly driven by selection into responding. Our findings suggest that, despite a strong legal framework that protects LGBTQ rights, discrimination against same-sex couples is pervasive and can have intergenerational consequences.

Streszczenie:
Economic research on sexual minority individuals in developing countries has been constrained by the scarcity of nationally representative surveys asking about sexual orientation. This paper merges and harmonizes census data from eight Latin American countries to document socio-economic disparities between different-sex and same-sex couples. Overall, although there are some exceptions, individuals in same-sex couples are on average younger than women and men in different-sex couples, are less likely to identify as Indigenous (while differentials for African descendants vary by country), have higher education levels, and are less likely to live with children. Gaps in unemployment rates by couple type and sex differ by country. Both women and men in same-sex couples have higher average incomes in Brazil. The same holds for women in Mexico, while men in same-sex couples have lower average incomes. Finally, homeownership rates are lower among same-sex couples, while welfare differentials as proxied by ownership of assets and dwelling characteristics vary by country.

Streszczenie:
We assess the extent of discrimination against gay and transgender individuals in the rental housing markets of four Latin American countries. We conducted a large-scale field experiment based on the correspondence study methodology to examine interactions between property managers and fictitious couples engaged in searches on a major online rental housing platform. We find no evidence of discrimination against gay male couples but we do find evidence of discrimination against heterosexual couples with a transgender woman partner (trans couples). The latter receive 19% fewer responses, 27% fewer positive responses, and 23% fewer invitations to showings than heterosexual couples. We also assess whether the evidence is consistent with taste-based discrimination or statistical discrimination models by comparing response rates when couples signal being professionals with stable jobs (high SES). While we find no significant effect of the signal for high-SES heterosexual or gay male couples, trans couples benefit from this. Their call-back, positive-response, and invitation rates increase by 25%, 36% and 29%, respectively. These results suggest that discrimination against trans couples is consistent with statistical discrimination. Moreover, we find no evidence of heterosexual couples being favored over gay male couples, nor evidence of statistical discrimination for gay male or heterosexual couples.

We conducted a large-scale field experiment building on the correspondence study methodology to examine interactions between property managers and fictitious couples engaged in searches on a major online rental housing platform. We find evidence of discriminatory behavior against heterosexual couples where the female partner is a transgender woman (trans couples): they receive 19% fewer responses, 27% fewer positive responses, and 23% fewer invitations to showings than heterosexual couples. However, we find no evidence of discrimination against gay male couples. We also assess whether the evidence is consistent with taste-based discrimination or statistical discrimination models by comparing response rates when couples signal high socioeconomic status (high SES). While we find no significant effect of the signal on call-back rates or the type of response for high-SES heterosexual or gay male couples, trans couples benefit when they signal high SES. Their call-back, positive-response, and invitation rates increase by 25%, 36% and 29%, respectively. These results suggest the presence of discrimination against trans couples in the Latin American online rental housing market, which seems consistent with statistical discrimination.
