Many experiments and analysis of folded honeycomb consisting of corrugated paperboards show that the use of linerboard can increase the energy absorption and weight of folded honeycombs. However, it reduces the energy absorption per unit volume and unit mass and increases the cushioning cost either. For the same corrugate shape, reducing corrugated size will increase the weight of folded honeycombs, and changing corrugated size will change the energy absorption per unit volume, but it can not change the cushioning cost. At a low relative density of corrugated sandwiches, the energy absorption per unit volume and unit mass rapidly increases, and the cushioning cost decreases when the relative density of corrugated sandwiches rises. While at a higher relative density, the energy absorption per unit volume and unit mass does not effectively increase with relative density of corrugated sandwiches. However, the cushioning cost may increases. Therefore, when designing the corrugated sandwich size, we can change the thickness of corrugate basis-paper or the corrugated size to change the relative density of corrugated sandwiches and the cushioning cost.

To discuss the dynamic characteristics of the height of high-speed corrugated roller mechanism, the mathematical model of the corresponding upper and lower corrugator roll is established , introduce the corresponding convex curve equation. By theoretical calculation,we got 6 groups of upper and lower height of the corrugated roller. Use ANSYS to simulate the working state of the corrugated rolle and establish finite element model to analyze force on the corrugated roller load, geometric constraints, thereby gaining the simulation status under 6 groups of height in the upper and lower corrugated roller. Compensate the results of theoretical calculation of the simulation conditions of convex curve and improve the contact performance of the corrugated roller .

The shear panels of plate girder made from corrugated in the web is investigated in this research. A corrugated web beam of plate is attached in the shear zone of the web as part of an experimental and theoretical investigation into plate girders. In experiments, seven plate girder specimens were tested under two points of load. Six of them were made of different shape of corrugated plate in the web, the last specimen was tested without corrugation as a reference specimen called control. In this study investigated the effected of (corrugation plate, thickness of corrugation with number layers of corrugated and the shape of corrugated plate) on (buckling and ultimate loads also on lateral and vertical deflection) and compared with reference specimen, these specimens have the same dimensions, the main variable was the thickness of the corrugated plate in the web (0.5, 1, and 2) mm, the depth was constant (300 mm). According to results of the experiment, the corrugated plates primarily increase the plate girder's stability. A corrugation of plate increases the buckling load and ultimate load significantly through the contribution of the corrugation to delay buckling of the plate girder in the web. In addition, it was found that increasing the plate-girder thickness leads to increased buckling and ultimate loads, because the stiffness will increase and delay the buckling. Also, the trapezoidal corrugation and the diagonal corrugate that placed perpendicular on the tension field action, give higher buckling and ultimate load than control beam. Ansys (version 17.0) computer program was used in this research represent the steel and nonlinear large structural shell was used to represent the corrugated web beam of the plate in the finite element analysis model.

Heat exchangers have an important role in everyday life. A heat exchanger is a device used as a means of energy transformation. The development of heat exchangers undergoes a form transformation that aims to increase efficiency through its work function. Double-pipe heat exchanger with a corrugated tube type is a simple and often applied method used in heat transfer. The use of a concave shape on the corrugated tube aims to increase the convection heat transfer area. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of using concave shapes on corrugated tubes on the effectiveness of double-pipe heat exchangers. The object of this research is a double pipe heat exchanger with a concave corrugated tube and then varied with triangular, trapezoidal, and square concave shapes. Data collection of experimental results on double pipe heat exchanger using pressure gauge, flowmeter, and thermocontrol as research instruments. The research data were analyzed descriptively calculated theoretically and then converted into graphs and tables. The results achieved to date are the addition of concave shape variations on corrugate tubes can increase the value of thermal conductivity and other characteristics, in the form of a concave triangle with the effectiveness value increased by 11,63%.

Based on the characteristics of box girder with corrugated steel webs, the existing prestressing force, the effect of shear deformation of composite girder on the deflection, “folding effect” in longitudinal direction of corrugate steel webs and the arrangement of external tendons were considered comprehensively. With the experiment results of five literatures integrated,N/fcA(the axial compression ratio) was selected as regression parameter to develop a regression equation for the effective cross-section stiffness of the girder. Then a formula for natural frequency of the externally prestressed box girder with corrugated steel webs was proposed. Finally, thein-situmeasurement on an actual bridge and a laboratory dynamic test on the model box girder with seven prestressing levels were conducted. The test results showed that the natural frequency of box girders with corrugated steel webs increased along with the growing external force. In contrast to other related formulas, the calculated results of the formula proposed in this paper showed the same tendency with measured results and the maximum error is 1%.

First, by mathematical methods, the corrugated structure is analyzed, and analysis to facilitate research, to select the 1/4 cycle corrugated. Create multiple vertical auxiliary line level is divided into 10 equal parts, to identify key points in shape between the V-shaped and U-shaped curve, connecting into multiple segments curve. Studied the actual thickness of the corrugated board of 3.8mm, a smaller thickness and therefore a straight line can be connected to each group of the resultant key points simplify the corrugated curve, model 1/4 of a cycle of UV-shaped corrugated first determined, using the symmetry of the model to establish a cycle, 300mm side length of the square created by one cycle of replication, about 38 of the corrugated board corrugated cycle. Use of finite element analysis in ANSYS corrugated structure, including a gradual transition to a simplified model of the 11 U-shaped flute-shaped corrugated cardboard from the V-shaped set of material properties, loads are cloth pressure, research corrugated cardboard stress and strain, i.e., the smaller the radius of curvature of the curve can be obtained along corrugated, the closer the U-shaped, corrugated board having a larger strain, i.e. has good flexibility, consistent with the empirical data to prove the feasibility of this analysis method.

The finite element model of a 0201 V-shaped, U-shaped, and UV-shaped single corrugated board corrugated boxes are established. The stress distribution and strain of the three types of waveform corrugated box to withstand the pressure of the top surface stacking are calculated. Three kinds of corrugated board compression are analyzed. Analysis of the structure shows that the V-shaped corrugated board has good rigidity, U-type corrugated box has good cushioning properties, and the range during which the UV type is a better choice. This is consistent with the experimental results, prove the validity of the finite element analysis, and provide data basis for optimization design of the shape of the corrugated board corrugated waveform.

The flat compression properties of corrugated sandwich structure are an important factor to evaluate their cushioning properties. At present, more research has been made on the mechanical properties in the cross direction (CD) and machine direction (MD), but less has been made in the flat compression direction. Selecting corrugated paperboards as samples, we analyzed the flat compression properties of the corrugated sandwich structure and explored the critical stress which is a key element for evaluating the cushioning properties based on theory and experiment. It is convenient to evaluate the cushioning properties and optimize the corrugated sandwich structure. Simplifying the corrugated structure into the struts, and referring to the bending theory of the standard beam theory, we explored the evaluating equation of the critical stress for corrugated sandwich structure by the bending moment and Euler formulas. The critical stress is in direct proportion to the elastic modulus and the thickness of the basis material. It is also closely related to the length of the corrugated cell-wall and the pasted width between the corrugated cell-wall and the linerboard. Changing the above parameters, we can change the compression resistance of the corrugated sandwich structure. The theoretical value of the critical stress of the corrugated sandwich structure is higher than the experimental value, since the mechanical properties are lost when the basis material is manufactured into corrugated sandwiches and corrugated boards. Therefore, the lost coefficient is introduced into the theoretic equation which can not only help optimize and design the corrugated sandwich structure, but also find application in optimized design of cushioning pads of corrugated sandwich structure.

Corrugated plates are widely used in ships, underwater vehicles and other engineering fields due to their good bending stiffness and strength characteristics. The properties of corrugated plates are determined by their corrugated shape, wavelength, and wave height, which affect each direction differently. In order to model these properties quickly and accurately, this paper employs an improved Fourier series method. The method is based on the Kirchhoff plate theory and equivalent stiffness method, expanding the displacement of the corrugated plate using Fourier series. By applying the energy principle, the free vibration characteristics of the corrugated plate can be determined. This approach allows for efficient and comprehensive multi-parameter control modeling of corrugated plates. The influence of structural form, material parameters and convergence on the vibration characteristics of corrugated plate is analyzed. This paper lays a foundation for the subsequent dynamic study of sandwich corrugated plate structure.

Composite beams with corrugated steel webs represent a new innovative system which has emerged in the past decade for short and medium span bridges. The new system usually combines the usage of corrugated steel plates as webs and reinforced/prestressed concrete slabs as flanges for plate or box girders. Bridges that have been recently built with this hybrid system are outlined in this paper, which focuses on the advantages of using corrugated steel webs as opposed to traditional flat webs. The flexural behaviour and bearing resistance of girders with corrugated steel webs is briefly discussed. The flanges of the new system solely provide the flexural strength of the beam with no contribution from the corrugated web. On the other hand, the corrugated web provides the shear capacity of the system. Thus, the shear behaviour of girders with corrugated webs is explicitly discussed focusing on the different failure and (or) buckling modes that affect the design of the corrugated steel web plates. Design charts for such webs are constructed based on the different interaction equations of failure. The torsion-warping behaviour of composite box girders with corrugated steel webs is also discussed.Key words: bridges, composite beams, corrugated steel webs, global buckling mode, interactive buckling, local buckling.

Mechanical behavior of box girder with corrugated steel webs in completion status of bridge was studied. Based on the cable stayed bridge of box girder with corrugated steel webs on Zhenshui Road in Xinmi City, finite element method (FEM) was applied to calculate and analyze vertical displacement of box girder, shearing stress of corrugated steel webs, normal stress and vertical deflection of concrete plates, longitudinal strain of box girder in completion status of bridge. The results show that vertical shearing stress of corrugated steel webs is approximately uniformly distributed along the height of box girder. Vertical deformations of corrugated steel webs play the dominant role in the whole box girder. Longitudinal strain of corrugated steel webs is smaller than that of concrete plate. Structural design method based on traditional theory that corrugated steel webs bear all the shear force is conservative. As a kind of transport packaging, the corrugated paperboard box is widely used in logistics. During transport, the stacked packaging units are subjected to random vibration induced by vehicles. Thus, the random dynamic force will be exerted to corrugated paperboard box continuously. As the shipping distance increases, there will be cumulative fatigue damage within the corrugated paperboard box, which will weaken the mechanical property (stiffness) and the protective value of the corrugated paperboard box. Therefore, the dynamic damage and fatigue failure of corrugated paperboard box are crucial for the design of corrugated paperboard box. This article aims to develop the acceleration root mean square-life [Formula: see text] curve of corrugated paperboard box. At first, the accelerated random vibration test method was developed by the theory analysis according to the damage equivalent principle of a specified point within the corrugated paperboard box. Then, the random vibration experiments were conducted on the loaded corrugated paperboard box by taking white noise as excitation power spectral density. In the experiments, the acceleration transmissibility curve was recorded periodically. Relative stiffness was taken as the indicator to detect the cumulative damage and assess the structural integrity of the corrugated paperboard box. The stiffness reduction 20%, 30%, and 40% were taken as fatigue failure criteria to develop the [Formula: see text] curves. Results show that both the Basquin type and exponential function type are in good fitting with the [Formula: see text] curve of the corrugated paperboard box. The index b of the Basquin type is between 8.16 and 11.01, and b′ of the exponential function type between 21.19 and 26.84. The study provides reference for the accelerated random vibration test of corrugated paperboard box.

Corrugated web girders represent a new structural system emerged in the past two decades. The girder’s flanges provide the flexural strength of the girder with no contribution from the corrugated web which provides the girder’s shear capacity. Failure of the web occurs by steel yielding, web buckling or interactively between them. Lateral torsion and local flange buckling of corrugated web girders represent another two possible failure criteria. Here, the work previously performed by the author on corrugated web girders was compiled and presented in a comprehensive format. The starting point is the shear behaviour of the corrugated webs which is investigated focusing on the failure modes affecting the web design. An interaction equation that considers web buckling and yielding is proposed. Numerical analyses are performed to investigate the buckling modes of the corrugated web, verify the validity of the proposed equation and explore the post-buckling strength of corrugated web girders. The numerical model is extended to determine the critical moment causing lateral instability for corrugated web girders. The applicability of the critical moment design equations, currently used for plane web girders, to corrugated web girders is examined. The numerical model is then used to scrutinize the local buckling behaviour of the compression flange. The applicability of the currently used limiting values for the flange outstand-to-thickness ratios to corrugated web girders is investigated.

In the construction of prestressed concrete(PC) box-girder bridge with corrugated steel webs used cast-in-place cantilever method, the key component-corrugated steel webs are fabricated in factory first and then transported to the construction site. Because of the low out-of plane stiffness, corrugated steel webs are easy to deform in the construction, which brings many difficulties for construction. The precision of installing the corrugated steel web has a direct effect on the cross-section shape of the box-girder. So it is a key step to monitor the orientation and installation of corrugated steel web during construction. Based on the experience of some PC box-girder bridges with corrugated steel webs having been built, a method to control the installation accuracy of corrugated steel webs is proposed and some quality assurance measures are introduced in order to ensure the accuracy, reliability and security of the installation of corrugated steel web. Corrugated-board explosion-proof wall is the main means to prevent explosion shock wave damage, and it is important to study the effect of different corrugated plates on the shock wave. Using a high-speed schlieren experimental system and an air overpressure test system, the wave-blocking characteristics of different forms of corrugated plates are comprehensively studied. The schlieren images were used to analyze the influence that the corrugation shape of a corrugated plate has on the shock wave propagation characteristics. The results show that the reflection process of the triangular-, trapezoidal-, and half-cylindrical-shaped corrugated plates exhibit differences. The number of reflected waves from the triangular corrugated plate is much greater than that from the other corrugated plates, and it will consume more energy. The diffraction wave-front velocity has a trend of initially decreasing and then increasing and is also reduced by different degrees by the reflection. Comparative analysis of the schlieren images and the air shock wave overpressure test shows that plates corrugated with different corrugation shapes decrease the diffraction overpressure peak and exhibit a hysteresis.

This paper investigates the relationship between mechanical behaviors and the shape of corrugated fiberboard by means of buckling analysis, which is done by FEM (Finite Element Method). Firstly, after analyzing the structure of corrugated fiberboard, a single-wall corrugated fiberboard model was built. The buckling load was measured in the ideal condition by linear buckling analysis (eigenvalue buckling analysis). Subsequently, nonlinear buckling analysis based on single-wall corrugated fiberboard was performed using the results of the eigenvalue buckling analysis. Finally, a finite element 3-D model of four-layer and five-layer corrugated fiberboard was established using ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) to improve mechanical properties of corrugated fiberboard based on comparing different eigenvalue buckling loads.

Applying the research result of the whole corrugated web H-beam to rail structure, a new kind of rail structure, the corrugated web rail was generated. The special structure rail was successfully rolled in the Research Mill Institute of Yanshan University. This experiment proved that rolling force of corrugated web rail was greater. Based on the software ANSYS/LS-DYNY, the rolling process of corrugated web rail is simulated. Comparing with rolling traditional rail, nip condition, deformation zone, elongation modulus, zone of slippage on the delivery side and on the entry side of rolling corrugated web rail are analyzed, Through the analysis of the character of rolling corrugated web rail, the reason of greater rolling force is found out.

In bridge engineering, girders with corrugated steel webs have shown good mechanical properties. With the promotion of composite bridge with corrugated steel webs, in particular steel-concrete composite girder bridge with corrugated steel webs, it is necessary to study the shear performance and buckling of the corrugated webs. In this research, by conducting experiment incorporated with finite element analysis, the stability of H shape beam welded with corrugated webs was tested and three failure modes were observed. Structural data including load-deflection, load-strain, and shear capacity of tested beam specimens were collected and compared with FEM analytical results by ANSYS software. The effects of web thickness, corrugation, and stiffening on shear capacity of corrugated webs were further discussed.

The traditional stability evaluation method of corrugated steel web box girder ignores the calculation of evaluation index weight, which leads to large deviation of evaluation results. Therefore, a new fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method for the overall stability of box girder with corrugated steel webs is proposed. According to the structural characteristics of corrugated steel web box girder, the stability coefficient of corrugated steel web box girder is calculated, and the stability calculation index of corrugated steel web box girder is obtained. In this paper, the constraint equation of bridge instability process is introduced, and Midas civil software is used to simulate the instability of box girder with corrugated steel webs during bridge construction. Based on this, the instability of the bridge is analyzed, the index weight of the anti-instability ability of the box girder with corrugated steel webs under different loads is calculated, and the overall stability of the box girder with corrugated steel webs is evaluated by fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. The test results show that this method can accurately evaluate the overall stability of box girder with corrugated steel webs, and the calculation accuracy is increased by 32.7% and the calculation speed is increased by about 1.62 seconds. It has high credibility and authenticity.

The heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of R290 flow boiling in a corrugated tube were investigated through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in this study. We established a model of flow boiling in a corrugated tube with different corrugated structures (rectangular and circular corrugations) and validated the model using the Liu–Winterton and Xu–Fang empirical equations. The heat transfer coefficient (HTC) and pressure drop were obtained at a mass flow rate of 0.04–0.2 kg/s and a water inlet temperature of 310–330 K. The results show that the HTC and the drop in the pressure of the corrugated tubes both obviously increased compared with a smooth tube as the mass flow rate increased. The HTC decreased for the three tubes as the water inlet temperature increased, while the drop in pressure slightly increased for the three tubes. Moreover, the corrugated structure was found to significantly enhance the heat transfer; the heat transfer enhancement factor (E1) of the corrugated tube with the rectangular corrugations and the corrugated tube with the circular corrugations was 2.01–2.36 and 1.67–1.98, respectively. The efficiency index (I) for both the rectangular corrugated pipe and the circular corrugated pipe was greater than 1 (1.05–1.24 and 1.13–1.29, respectively). The application of corrugated tubes with round and rectangular corrugations can reduce the heat transfer area required for the exchange of heat and, thus, reduce the cost.

A new rolling process of the 304/Q345R composite plate based on a corrugated interface was developed. Through numerical simulation and rolling experiments, the metal deformation law, the stress and strain field distribution, and the bond strength of the corrugated plate were studied. By comparison, the corrugated interface effectively increased the length of the composite interface. Also, the composite interface from the 2D corrugated surface became a 3D corrugated surface, and a combination of the 304/Q345R composite plate metallurgy was achieved with a low reduction rate. Simultaneously, the interface bonding strength was improved.

Bending response of corrugated core metallic sandwich panels was studied experimentally under three-point bending loading. Two different core configurations were used: the corrugated monolithic core and the corrugated sliced core. The trapezoidal corrugated cores were manufactured from aluminum sheets via a sheet metal bending mould. After the sandwich panel samples were prepared, they were subjected to three-point bending tests. The load and displacement responses of the sandwich panels having different core configurations were obtained from the experimental testing. The influence of the core configuration on the three-point bending response and failure modes was then investigated. The experimental results revealed that the corrugated sliced core configuration exhibited an improved bending performance compared to the corrugated monolithic core configuration.

Conically corrugated tube is a new type of high-efficiency heat exchange tube. In this paper, the mechanical and heat transfer properties of conically corrugated tubes formed by the cold rolling of smooth tubes are studied through experimental measurement and numerical simulation to lay the foundations for applying the tubes in heat exchangers. The results show that while conically corrugated tube has a lower axial elastic stiffness compared with smooth tube, conically corrugated tube has a higher yield strength and ultimate strength. Unlike smooth tubes, conically corrugated tubes develop three-dimensional stresses when an axial tensile load is applied to them. In addition, the heat transfer coefficient of conically corrugated tube is 15%, 17%, and 115% higher than that of spiral grooved tube, convergent divergent tube, and smooth tube, respectively. Finally, the correlation equations of the axial stress concentration factor, stiffness equivalent coefficient, Nusselt number, and flow resistance coefficient of conically corrugated tubes are obtained for engineering application.

Corrugated paperboard is a kind of inexpensive and environmental-friendly packaging material and may be made into cushioning package pads to protect products from damaging during transport and distribution. By virtue of the static compression tests and impose four kinds of different compression speed on two kinds corrugated paperboard pads, This paper obtains the failure modes and the stress and strain curve. The results show that the failure of the corrugated board exhibit four stages, the linear elastic stage, the yield stage, plastic deformation and densification stage. The damage of corrugated structure pads occurs on yield and plastic deformation stage and structure damage mostly is shear crimpling on core layer. The damage of double layer corrugated paperboard is separated layer, first the bottom layer be damaged, then the top layer, until the corrugated paperboard is damaged wholly. In addition, we also find that the static compression speed has not significantly influence on the corrugated paperboard.

Combined with the characteristics of prestressed concrete box girder bridge with corrugated steel webs and reactive powder concrete theory, this paper puts forward the concept of new prestressed corrugated steel webs reactive powder concrete box girder bridge. By improving the material properties, structural design and construction methods of prestressed concrete composite structure with corrugated steel webs, its bearing capacity can be improved, so as to improve its construction efficiency and economic benefits. Soil adhesion is a physical phenomenon which results in undesirable effects including increment in drag force and energy consumption of cutting or tillage tools. One method to reduce the soil adhesion is biomimetics, i.e., focusing on the technique soil-burrowing animals’ benefit. In this study, three types of blade were designed and built: flat blade, corrugated blade and a combination of flat and corrugated blades. The corrugated blade was simulated from Armadillidium vulgare body surface geometrical shape. Experimental results showed that in dry soil, flat and corrugated blades required similar drag force while the combined blade showed higher drag force requirements. In wet soil, the corrugated blade resulted in the lowest drag force, which was due to faster movement of soil layer on the blade surface. Drag force of the corrugated blade was lower than the half of the drag force of two other blades at travel speed of 0.04 m/s. Besides, the drag force of corrugated blade decreased by increasing the blade travel speed. Furthermore, in wet soil, the energy consumption of the corrugated blade at the travel speeds of 0.02 and 0.04 m/s was 66% and 83% lower than the flat blade, respectively.

Corrugated cardboard is an ecological material, mainly because, in addition to virgin cellulose fibers also the fibers recovered during recycling process are used in its production. However, the use of recycled fibers causes slight deterioration of the mechanical properties of the corrugated board. In addition, converting processes such as printing, die-cutting, lamination, etc. cause micro-damage in the corrugated cardboard layers. In this work, the focus is precisely on the crushing of corrugated cardboard. A series of laboratory experiments were conducted, in which the different types of single-walled corrugated cardboards were pressed in a fully controlled manner to check the impact of the crush on the basic material parameters. The amount of crushing (with a precision of 10 micrometers) was controlled by a precise FEMat device, for crushing the corrugated board in the range from 10 to 70% of its original thickness. In this study, the influence of crushing on bending, twisting and shear stiffness as well as a residual thickness and edge crush resistance of corrugated board was investigated. Then, a procedure based on a numerical homogenization, taking into account a partial delamination in the corrugated layers to determine the degraded material stiffness was proposed. Finally, using the empirical-numerical method, a simplified calculation model of corrugated cardboard was derived, which satisfactorily reflects the experimental results.

This paper investigates the quality of inkjet printing on corrugated cardboard with various characteristics such as the presence of surface coating, the type of cardboard structure, the corrugated layer profile, and the corrugated cardboard height. The color characteristics of the corrugated board surface of studied samples were analyzed in the CIE Lab system; the value of the discrepancy in the shade of white was established when compared with the reference values of the ISO 12647 standard. During the study, the main criteria for assessing the quality of color reproduction of inkjet imprints were analyzed: an indicator of the general contrast level (K), the value of color differences for the basic tone shades (ΔE), and the volume of the body color coverage (ΔE2). It was found that when printing on various types of corrugated cardboard, there is a general decrease in the overall contrast value. The actual level of color differences is ΔE=10...45 and exceeds the permissible standards for the color reproduction quality. This adversely affects the reproduction of different color tones in the printed image. In general, the quality of color reproduction differs for the test samples of corrugated cardboard in terms of the magnitude of the spread in the values of color distortions on the tone shades. The influence of the main characteristics of the investigated samples of corrugated cardboard on the quality indicators of inkjet printing has been analyzed. In particular, a significant influence of the index of color characteristics of the surface of corrugated cardboard L* and the type of corrugated board structure on the quality of color reproduction has been established. The study results reported here could make it possible to reasonably approach the selection of the corrugated board structure that is optimal in composition, increase the productivity of the technological process for manufacturing containers, and stabilize the quality of printing on corrugated cardboard

As long as non-contact digital printing remains an uncommon standard in the corrugated packaging industry, corrugated board crushing remains a real issue that affects the load capacity of boxes. Crushing mainly occurs during the converting of corrugated board (e.g., analog flexographic printing or laminating) and is a process that cannot be avoided. However, as this study shows, it can be controlled. In this work, extended laboratory tests were carried out on the crushing of double-walled corrugated board. The influence of fully controlled crushing (with a precision of ±10 µm) in the range from 10% to 70% on different laboratory measurements was checked. The typical mechanical tests—i.e., edge crush test, four-point bending test, shear stiffness test, torsional stiffness test, etc.—were performed on reference and crushed specimens. The residual thickness reduction of the crushed samples was also controlled. All empirical observations and performed measurements were the basis for building an analytical model of crushed corrugated board. The proven and verified model was then used to study the crushing effect of the selected corrugated board on the efficiency of simple packages with various dimensions. The proposed measurement technique was successfully used to precisely estimate and thus control the crushing of corrugated board, while the proposed numerical and analytical techniques was used to estimate the load capacity of corrugated board packaging. A good correlation between the measured reduced stiffness of the corrugated cardboard and the proposed analytical predictive models was obtained.

Taking advantage of the concurrent stretching and bending property of corrugated flexure hinges, a sinusoidal corrugated flexure linkage was proposed and applied for the construction of a corrugated dual-axial mechanism with structural symmetry and decoupled planar motion guidance. Castigliano’s second theorem was employed to derive the complete compliance for a basic sinusoidal corrugated flexure unit, and matrix-based compliance modeling was then applied to find the stiffness of the sinusoidal corrugated flexure linkage and the corrugated dual-axial mechanism. Using established analytical models, the influence of structural parameters on the stiffness of both the corrugated flexure linkage and the dual-axial mechanism were investigated, with further verification by finite element analysis, with errors less than 20% compared to the analytical results for all cases. In addition, the stiffness of the corrugated flexure mechanism was practically tested, and its deviation between practical and analytical was around 7.4%. Further, the feasibility of the mechanism was demonstrated by successfully applying it for a magnetic planar nanopositioning stage, for which both open-loop and closed-loop performances were systematically examined. The stage has a stroke around 130 μm for the two axes and a maximum cross-talk less than 2.5%, and the natural frequency is around 590 Hz.

Recently, corrugated steel plate shear walls have been shown to be an efficient lateral force resisting system for building structures. Corrugated plates have higher out-of-plane stiffness and improved buckling stability in comparison with flat plates which result in improved hysteretic behavior. However, the thickness of the corrugated plates may be limited due to the cold-form process restrictions. This paper investigates the cyclic performance of double corrugated steel plate shear walls. One-story single-bay specimen was designed and modelled and parametric studies were performed. The parametric study considered the orientation of corrugated plates (horizontal or vertical), disconnection of infill plates from columns, disconnection of infill plates from each other, infill plate thickness and infill plate aspect ratio on cyclic performance of double corrugated steel plate shear walls. The present study results show that proper selection of the aforementioned parameters can lead to a desirable cyclic performance. In the end, a recommendation for calculating initial stiffness and ultimate strength of double corrugated steel plate shear walls is given.

The analysis of improving ways to test for load-bearing structures - metal beams with corrugated wall was conducted. Weak places, limiting their load-bearing capacity were determined. It was found that the criterion for determining the carrying capacity of thin-walled corrugated beam is its local resistance. The author's solution to increase the local stability of the corrugated wall beams was suggested. Author's solution is to give the corrugated wall of further extruded profile of different geometry. The influence of the shape and size of punching the wall on the carrying capacity of corrugated beams was determined. The studies confirming the effectiveness of the proposed constructive solutions increase the stability of the corrugated wall are conducted. Preliminary assessment of the degree of increase of the bearing capacity of the beam by punching its wall is obtained.

The stability of the casing is a crucial prerequisite for implementing the in situ high-temperature steam injection method in oil shale reservoirs. In order to address the issues of substantial expansion, concentrated thermal stresses, and susceptibility to damage observed in traditional straight casings under high temperatures, this paper proposes the utilization of a corrugated casing structure. In this regard, to investigate the impact of the shape and structure of the wellbore casing on its mechanical properties, identical corrugated and straight casings were selected and studied. Uniaxial compression and tensile tests were conducted on the casings, along with coordination deformation experiments between the casing and cement sheath under varying temperatures. Numerical simulations were employed to obtain the deformation characteristics of the corrugated and straight casings under axial compression and tension loads, as well as the stress distribution on the outer casing wall. The results showed that when subjected to the same amount of deformation under axial loading, the corrugated casing experienced lower compressive and tensile loads compared to the straight casing. Moreover, under the sole constraint of cement sheath, increasing the temperature led to lower vertical strains (perpendicular to the ground) at all measuring points of the corrugated casing as compared to the corresponding strains in the straight casing. Numerical simulations revealed that, under the same temperatures, the deformation at the interface between the corrugated casing and the cement sheath was smaller, while the vertical stress at the interface of the corrugated casing was also lower than the straight casing. Overall, the corrugated casing, with its corrugated structure that enabled micro-deformation, effectively mitigated the axial deformation of the casing caused by thermal expansion. Consequently, the corrugated casing reduced the extrusion of wellbore casing on the cement sheath, thereby preserving the integrity and stability of the wellbore cementing structure.

Applying the research result of the whole corrugated web H-beam to rail structure, a new kind of rail structure, the corrugated web rail was generated. The special structure rail was successfully rolled in the Research Mill Institute of Yanshan University. Based on the finite element analysis software DEFORM-3D, the rolling process of corrugated waist rail is simulated. The miscrostructure evolution of rolling corrugated waist rail is analysed. The relationship between miscrostructure evolution and deformation are also analysed.

Mengacu perilaku balok I secara umum, diprediksi balok web-corrugated hanya berbeda pada perilaku gesernya. Adapun perencanaan geser balok dari AISC (2010) ada dua, yaitu berdasarkan perilaku elastis sebelum tekuk (G2 – AISC); dan perilaku pasca tekuk memanfaatkan “tension field action” (G3 – AISC) dari pelat badannya. Variasi dari perilaku geser balok web-corrugated masuk dalam kategori pasal G2 atau G3, atau sesuatu yang baru. Perilaku Itu yang ingin diketahui dari penelitian ini. Untuk itu diperlukan simulasi numerik analisis struktur non-linier dengan metode elemen hingga. Langkah awal dimulai dengan kalibrasi prosedur, dengan cara simulasi balok I-built-up yang telah diketahui perilakunya. Setelah dipastikan bahwa prosedur simulasi numerik memenuhi syarat, yang ditunjukkan dengan penyelesaian kasus yang ada. Selanjutnya akan dilakukan cara parametrik, bagian yang akan dievaluasi diubah-ubah parameternya. Mulai dari pelat badan datar (umum) dan dijadikan bergelombang (corrugated). Parameter yang ditinjau adalah lebar, sudut dan ketebalan web corrugated. Hasil simulasi parameter menunjukkan bahwa keruntuhan geser web corrugated adalah tekuk inelastic dan dapat direncanakan sesuai ketentuan G2 – AISC. Bentuk gelombang pada pelat badan memperkecil faktor kelangsingannya, sehingga kapasitasnya meningkat. Kesimpulannya balok web corrugated lebih efektif untuk menahan tekuk geser dibandingkan dengan balok I-built up.

More and more pre-stressed concrete box-girder bridges with corrugated steel web are being realized in the world due to their advantages over the traditional concrete box girder bridges. Characteristics of corrugated steel web technology were introduced briefly in this paper, and its application in Juancheng Yellow River Bridge was also presented. Calculations on the shear buckling strength of corrugated steel web for Juancheng Yellow River Bridge were performed by the use of design code of Japan. Based on the analysis results, a reasonable way to determine the sizes of corrugated steel web is proposed, and it will provide help for designers when performing a design of pre-stressed box girder with corrugated steel web in China.

Nanofluid flow through non-corrugated and corrugated channels is studied using a two-dimensional (2D) and three dimensions (3D) numerical simplification. Due to the high computational costs of a full 3D grid model, the 2D approach offer a more practical advantage. However, little information about its validity is available. The aim of this study is to explore to which extent 2D simulations can describe the flow within a 3D geometry, and to investigate how effective the commonly used 2D numerical simplification is in nanofluid flow through non-corrugated and corrugated channels. A case study has implemented with 2D and 3D mesh models to compare their results taking into consideration the analysis of heat transfer and pressure drop. A simulation has been carried out using Ansys fluent software to compare the results for different Reynolds Numbers ranges from 10000 to 30000 and different geometries non-corrugated, semicircle and rectangular channels. The results show that for non-corrugated channel there is a slight difference between 2D and 3D results for all Reynolds number ranges, while for both semicircle and rectangular corrugated channels, the difference becomes larger for high Reynold’s Number.

Buried corrugated steel culverts are universally regarded as a structure with strong deformation adaptability and dispersed the upper load by corrugated steel structures surrounding soil constraints to enhance the carrying capacity and the use of soil-structure interaction. A lot of factors influence the earth pressure of the buried corrugated steel culvert, such as culvert stiffness, physical characteristics of the backfill (bulk density, deformation modulus and internal friction angle), geometry of structure and backfilling height. The finite element program of ANSYS has been used to research the elastic modulus, Poisson’s ratio, internal friction angle of soil, inertia moment of corrugated steel plate and pipe diameter affect the rigidity and flexibility of buried corrugated steel culvert. By defining path lines in the finite element post-processing, extracting and comparing the horizontal and vertical directions soil displacements along the lines, and doing impact pa-rameter analysis. Classification for flexible and rigid pipes of the buried corrugated steel pipe culvert structure has been made according to the analysis results. A theoretical reference has been provided for the design and construction of the buried corrugated steel pipe culverts.

This paper aims to design, modeling and manufacturing a prototype composite winding machine used to produce corrugated composite tubes. Seven different types of tubes can be produced: Radial Corrugated Tube (RCT), Radial Corrugated Surrounded by Cylindrical Tube (RCSCT), Cylindrical Tube (CT), Tangential Corrugated Tube (TCT), Tangential Corrugated Surrounded by Cylindrical Tube (TCSCT), Combined Radial and Tangential Corrugated Tube (CRTCT), and Combined Radial and Tangential Corrugated Surrounded by Cylindrical Tube (CRTCSCT). All types can be produced with different size. Although it is designed mainly for composites, however, paper, and thin sheet of metallic materials can be used as raw material too. Different fiber forms can be used such as knitted, woven roving, continuous filament, or chopped mat of glass or carbon fiber. Corrugation profile can be changed to any required shape such as sinusoidal, triangular, square, rectangular, trapezoidal, or combination of any two or more profiles. The machine uses a special technique utilizing a mandrel that can be driven manually as well as automatically. A prototype of a designed machine have been manufactured, and tested. Two different samples of prospected products have been produced successfully

In this paper, a corrugated Mg/Al clad plate was successfully manufactured by an upper corrugated roller and a lower flat roller at 400 °C rolling temperature and 35% reduction ratio. Interface bonding performance of the corrugated Mg/Al clad plate was studied by tensile-shear test. The finite element method was used to simulate the corrugated rolling process. Experiment results revealed that the Mg/Al clad plate fabricated by corrugated roller had a tight bonding interface, no crack, and no intermetallic compounds. The transverse tensile-shear strength at the trough position reached 31.22 MPa, and the tensile-shear strength at the peak position was 17.61 MPa. It can be found that the stress and strain of interface metal at the trough position were the largest through numerical simulation results. Two cross-shear zones can be formed in the rolling deformation zone of the corrugated Mg/Al clad plate, which can accelerate the metal plastic flow and promote interface close bonding.

Braided corrugated hoses are widely used in displacement compensation and vibration absorption environments due to their excellent flexibility and energy dissipation properties; however, the axial stiffness has rarely been discussed before as an important physical property of braided corrugated hoses. In this paper, the theoretical axial stiffness model for braided corrugated hoses is established based on the energy method and the theory of the curved beam. The influences of the braiding parameters of the metallic braided tube and the structural parameters of the bellows on the axial stiffness are also discussed. Through finite element tensile testing, the axial stiffness curves of the braided corrugated hose under different braiding angles and different wire diameters are obtained. The theoretical axial stiffness model is in good agreement with the simulation experiment, which reflects the nonlinear effects of the braiding angle and wire diameter on the braided corrugated hose. This paper provides an accurate method and basis for the design of braided corrugated hoses in the future.
