kspite 14 joint years of working for two large Parastatal corporations and the largestFinancial Services institution on the African continent, and of late three years as anindependent communication consultant, I still have no clear-cut answer to the questionof what the future holds for conventional communication. Note that I am steeringclear of the word communications.Communications would in my view be referring to those information-technology-trainedexperts driving luxury cars at an age when they had barely qualified for a legal driver'slicence, or to the richest person in the world who has, by starting a dot.com business, surpassed in stock wealth the software wunderkid of the eighties. They are indeed alsopart and parcel of communication. The only thing is that they seem to be successfulon a large scale where people electing to qualify and practise in the field of conventionalcommunication appear to have much less to be happy about. This statement would probably further demoralise current students of communication, academia, starter-up practitioners, those who are in fact making it and let us notforget communication advisers. The question is are we making it professionally or arewe practising an unnecessary art and science? Let us, explore this issue by lookingobjectively at some pertinent communication industry (not IT) mind teasers, turningthem into statements and then arguing the realities surrounding them.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of supplier competence on the performance of state corporations in KenyaMethodology: The study adopted cross-sectional survey design using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The target population was all the 187 state corporations in Kenya. The study employed a census approach. Primary data was collected using questionnaires. A pilot study was conducted to measure the research instruments reliability and validity. Descriptive statistics were used aided by Statistical Packages for Social Sciences version 24 to compute percentages of respondents’ answers. Inferential statistics using linear regression and correlation analysis were applied to assist examining relationship between the research variables. The results were presented using tables and graphs. Results: The findings revealed that supplier competence explained 44.1 % of the total variations in performance of state corporations in Kenya. Further, the results indicated that the overall model was statistically significant as supported by a p value of 0.000. This was supported by an F statistic of 111.904 and the reported p value (0.000) which was less than the conventional probability of 0.05 significance level. In addition, the findings show that there is a positive and significant relationship between supplier competence and performance of state corporations in Kenya as supported by a p value of 0.000 and a beta coefficient of (0.903). This implies that an increase in supplier competence by 1 unit would increase the performance of state corporations by 0.903units.Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: Based on the findings, the study recommended that suppliers should develop competent technical abilities so as to provide high quality products or services. Some of the technical dimensions that suppliers should develop competence in include; compliance with quantity, compliance with due date, compliance with packaging standard, production planning systems of suppliers, and maintenance activities of suppliers, plant layout and material. It’s also recommended that state corporations in Kenya should check frequently if supplier organisation is abreast with the newer information technology developments as technology is very dynamic and changes regularly as the technology that was used in the past is not the one we using now and it will not be the one we will use tomorrow.

During the last years, the German banking sector has faced major changes due to significant progress in the technological sector and hence an increased digitalization in many areas. Changing consumer behavior and customer needs force credit institutions to adjust to these developments in order to maintain their competitiveness. An enlarged number of new financial technology (FinTech) corporations started providing financial services comparable to the ones conventional banks offer. In this context, especially the topic of robo-advice is becoming more and more relevant. Robo-advisors can be defined as digital platforms that provide automated, algorithm-driven financial planning services with little to no human supervision. In our article, we investigate robo-advisors as part of the FinTech movement and in particular analyze the eligibility of digital investment advisory service as potential alternative to conventional asset management. We specifically emphasize the influence that FinTech companies and innovations have on the German banking sector.

Climate change is a major global challenge, which is complex, unpredictable and will continue at an increasingly fast rate, causing risks and great impacts on companies and the global economy. Adapting to climate change and ensuring energy security is a challenge that any country or business in the world has to face. Although approaches may vary, all oil and gas companies need to be more proactive in responding and adapting to climate change with solutions to: (i) manage climate risks as part of their corporate risk management and (ii) develop a climate change adaptation strategy. The strategies of major IOCs and NOCs in the coming period are directed towards two major strategic trends, namely: energy transition and GHG emission reduction. Most of the Asian NOCs have either implemented low-carbon energy development solutions to gradually replace conventional energy or actively participated in GHG reduction initiatives.

This paper delineates changes in the organization of the production of horticultural plants as a result of the introduction of plant tissue culture techniques in India. Conventionally, horticultural plantlets have been produced in farmer-managed nurseries by using traditional plant breeding techniques such as grafting, budding, layering, seed propagation, etc. Over several centuries, the production process was organized as a craft, based on empirical experience. During the last decade, many multinational corporations and large Indian industrial companies have made substantial investments in horticulture by deploying tissue culture. In a comparative study of nurseries using conventional plant breeding techniques and plant tissue culture, it was observed that production processes had undergone several changes as a result of the introduction of tissue culture. In traditional nurseries the production process was organized according to the simple division of labour. In contrast, plant tissue culture technology was introduced within a complex organizational structure with a formal hierarchy similar to that of the manufacturing industry. Plant tissue culture has ushered in the industrialization of horticulture.

Abstract This study investigates corporate dominance of the world’s food supply. Multinational corporations have a monopoly control over seeds and the accompanying pesticides, which is leading to the disappearance of small farms and traditional methods of farming. Due to strict patent rights, local producers are forced to buy seeds that can only be used once, thereby fostering a feudalistic relationship of perpetual dependence. Advancements in DNA technology have enabled corporate scientists to splice one trait from one species and inject it in an altogether different organism. This process is referred to as genetic modification or transgenic engineering. The difference between enhanced traits from genetic modification (GM) as compared to conventional methods is that in the case of GM the genes are transferred without sexual crossing. They are injected in a targeted manner in a laboratory using sophisticated molecular technology. Transgenic seeds promise to increase output and are drought and pest resistant. But these seeds create monocultures in the food system as varieties of different types of crops are lost and age-old customs destroyed.

Composting is the most adaptable and fruitful method for managing biodegradable solid wastes; it is a crucial agricultural practice that contributes to recycling farm and agricultural wastes. Composting is profitable for various plant, animal, and synthetic wastes, from residential bins to large corporations. Composting and agricultural waste management (AWM) practices flourish in developing countries, especially Pakistan. Composting has advantages over other AWM practices, such as landfilling agricultural waste, which increases the potential for pollution of groundwater by leachate, while composting reduces water contamination. Furthermore, waste is burned, open-dumped on land surfaces, and disposed of into bodies of water, leading to environmental and global warming concerns. Among AWM practices, composting is an environment-friendly and cost-effective practice for agricultural waste disposal. This review investigates improved AWM via various conventional and emerging composting processes and stages: composting, underlying mechanisms, and factors that influence composting of discrete crop residue, municipal solid waste (MSW), and biomedical waste (BMW). Additionally, this review describes and compares conventional and emerging composting. In the conclusion, current trends and future composting possibilities are summarized and reviewed. Recent developments in composting for AWM are highlighted in this critical review; various recommendations are developed to aid its technological growth, recognize its advantages, and increase research interest in composting processes.

Data pervasiveness was made possible by the advent of new technologies such as the Internet and the World Wide Web in every human and non-human activity. This created an exponential increase or data explosion in data generation, coined under the term Big data. Alternatively, Big Data sources can contribute to the reduction of the response burden or they can be used only to study some economic or social phenomena before designing a statistical survey which is inherently expensive to pilot. Also, incorporating Big Data sources into official statistics means maintaining a net competitive advantage and relevance of the official statistics products compared to those provided by a plethora of commercial players, with reference to large corporations that are active in the field of information technology. In this paper, the web scraping technique was used to extract the daily prices of the food and drinks products in order to replace them with conventional prices which had been used for price indices. Moreover, these sorts of new datasets enable us to calculate the indices in smaller time scales like weekly or daily basis in comparison to the conventional approach which is possible only on monthly basis. Although web scraping has its own problems, it is more economically friendly, accurate, and time-saving, especially in urban areas. Findings revealed that the web scraping technique can be applied as an effective alternative to conventional methods for CPI. Also, this technique can be used for other price statistics.

Blockchain technology is slowly making its way from buzz to adoption. Organizations are moving from the experimental/proof-of-concept stage to using the technology for certain business operations, which will likely be followed by more large-scale commercial adaptations as the technology matures and knowledge grows. Business process innovation will be a crucial driver of this transformation, and it is likely to disrupt the way services are delivered in a good way. This process of adopting blockchain is marked by significant collaboration across all value chain actors, in contrast to the conventional approach, in which firms were known to compete with one another - where secrecy was the rule when it came to technology selection, launch plans, and even business strategies. Financial institutions, conventional technology corporations, fintech businesses, as well as regulators and governmental agencies, are all working together. To drive digital transformation of their organizations, companies will need to leverage the correct IT, infrastructure, and tools, as well as subject expertise and cooperation. This research throws light on the use of blockchain technology in different areas. Here I have tried to examine different cases in various domains where the implementation of Blockchain technology can help in reducing costs and increase ROI. These cases come from clients who are facing challenges in their regular work and want convert the challenges into opportunities and be market leaders. This research is to study and analyze various case studies and suggest possible use of Blockchain to bring change and increase customer satisfaction. The research will also help TCS to harness the Blockchain technology and enhance skills of their workforce. Since Blockchain will keep influencing different sectors, it has become very prominent that companies need to bring about changes in their current functioning and channelize their resources to find out ways of using Blockchain technology.

Streszczenie:
For most of two centuries, the United States was a nation of small farms and many farmers, raising much of their own food along with one or more cash crops and livestock for local markets. Today, farms run by families of weatherbeaten farmers, pie-baking farm wives, and earnest 4-H offspring are disappearing. Americans live on supermarket or take-out food, mostly produced on extensive, highly mechanized and chemical-dependent industrial-scale “conventional” farms, raising single-crop monocultures or single-breed livestock. The larger farms cover tens of thousands of acres, too much for single families to manage. It is not agriculture, but agribusiness— an industry run by corporations. Conventional industrial agriculture is highly productive, and supermarket food is cheap. So why should anyone worry about growing food with chemical fertilizers, expensive equipment, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals? The reasons, acknowledged even by the industry, are that agribusiness “saddles the farmer with debt, threatens his health, erodes his soil and destroys its fertility, pollutes the ground water and compromises the safety of the food we eat.” Croplands presently encompass some 57 million acres in the 11 western states (table 2.1). Giant plantations consume huge amounts of natural resources—soil, fertilizers, fuels, and water. Synthetic fertilizers keep overused soils in production, until they become too salty (salinated) and must be abandoned. Industrial farming has taken over large areas of wildlife habitat, including forest, scrub, desert, or prairie, to replace degraded croplands. The clearings and massive pesticide applications threaten or endanger large and increasing numbers of plant and animal species in the western United States. Pesticide exposures sicken family farmers and agribusiness workers in the fields, and add environmental poisons to our diet. Pesticides and other problematic agricultural chemicals accumulate in our bodies. Agribusiness consumes especially huge amounts of increasingly costly, nonrenewable petroleum. “Every single calorie we eat is backed by at least a calorie of oil, more like ten” to run fleets of immense plowing, planting, cultivating, harvesting, and processing machines, plus countless irrigation pumps. Growing a pound of American beef consumes half a gallon of petroleum. A top executive of the giant agriculture-chemical corporation Monsanto has admitted that “current agricultural technology is not sustainable.” High-tech agriculture, such as cloning and genetically modifying crops, does not help conventional agriculture become more sustainable.

While the concept of geo-marketing is the conventional association of data and maps, the addition of local business listings, mobile marketing, and social media has made this kind of marketing more potent than ever. This marketing tool is now accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises as well as major corporations. From a technical perspective, a user's IP address on the internet is connected to GPS data, such as longitudes and latitudes, which are technologically mapped to geographic locations all over the world down to the city and street level. Over the past few years, there have been many indications of the development of geographic marketing. Whether a company wants it or not, a technology will become a part of our daily lives when organisations like Google, Apple, and the Wall Street investing community start to support it with investments of $100 million and more. These geo-marketing technologies are already being used by consumers to identify local businesses, services, and products, and their use will only increase.

At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the 1950s, some of the brightest students seldom attended classes. Instead they loitered around the Tech Model Railroad Club. The most brilliant were tapped to join the Signals and Power Committee, which rigged ever more elaborate systems of programmable track switches using nothing more sophisticated than telephone relays. Taking pride in their ad hoc wiring, which ignored all conventions of electrical engineering, they referred to themselves as hackers. Nothing was impossible for them; nothing was off limits. When MIT acquired its first computer in 1956, they infiltrated the control room, where they coerced the electronics to do tricks unintended by the manufacturer, using sine and cosine routines to code the first digital computer game. As computers became more common, so did hacking. To program home computers in the 1970s no longer required the imaginative genius of the MIT Signals and Power Committee, and by the 1980s self-professed hackers ranged from professional software developers to adolescent cyberpunks. The latter proved considerably more interesting to the public, riveted by their ability to torment corporations and governments from their bedrooms. “A hacker—computer jargon for an electronic eavesdropper who by-passes computer security systems—yesterday penetrated a confidential British Telecom message system being demonstrated live on BBC-TV,” reported the Daily Telegraph in a typical news story of 1983, the year that War Games hit the big screen. Old-school Signals and Power hackers fought valiantly against this linguistic turn, insisting that the young punks were crackers rather than hackers, but the media ignored the distinction, leading most new-school professionals to head off confusion by blandly presenting themselves as computer scientists or software engineers or information technology specialists. Aside from the occasional insider reference—ITs who troubleshoot security systems were sometimes known as “white-hat” hackers— the criminal connotation seemed permanent. Then in 2004 a Silicon Valley technology writer named Danny O’Brien gave a forty-five-minute lecture at the O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference titled “Life Hacks: Tech Secrets of Overprolific Alpha Geeks.” Within a year technophiles worldwide, from computer scientists to iPhone addicts, were striving to become hackers again.

Abstract Article VIII on public debt and public works is the longest and most frequently amended article in the Ohio Constitution. The delegates to the 1850–51 Convention proposed this article to ensure that the state would never again face a debt crisis like the one that resulted from the construction of the state’s transportation system beginning in 1825. The delegates did this by imposing a $750,000 limitation on the amount of state debt, by restricting the entanglement of public and private money, and by prohibiting expenditures for internal improvements. The article also prohibits the state from giving or loaning its credit to any association or corporation or becoming a joint owner of any company. There are exceptions to the debt limitation in cases involving military invasions and other emergencies. And over the years, the voters have overridden the debt limitation by adopting amendments to permit the issuance of bonds above the limitation for veteran benefits and for a broad array of capital improvement and economic development projects. Ohio, like nearly every other state, has a balanced budget requirement, but this requirement applies to operating budgets and not to expenditures for capital expenditures such as highway and housing construction, conservation, revitalization of natural resources, economic development, and technology support. To raise funds for these nonoperating items (including bonds for veteran bonuses), Ohio typically issues general obligation bonds that are backed by the full faith and credit of the state, but Ohio also issues revenue bonds that the state does not guarantee.

Abstract Renewable energy in our world today has greatly helped the ecosystem by reducing the amount of carbon content in the atmosphere. Recent studies have shown that the dependence on the National grid and fossil fuels for generating power for pumps is becoming alarming and as such, an alternative source for energy generation to power the pump system necessitated this research. The research relies on solar-generated power for driving pumps as opposed to fossil fuels. A submersible centrifugal pump was used because of its wide usage in various industries such as Oil and Energy, Pharmaceutical, Breweries, Production industries, Water corporations, Domestic and Commercial buildings, etc. We designed and constructed an automatic solar-powered pump system, integrated, and programmed the sensors using Arduino microcontroller and C++ programming language, respectively. We analyzed the telemetry data from the sensors and predicted the illuminance of light on the solar panel and sent the information via a web server using a GSM module. The solar-based pumping system consists of a submersible centrifugal pump, solar panel, solar charge controller, battery, remote controller, GSM module, photo sensor and a liquid level sensor. The photo sensor returns values ranging from 0 to 1023. The higher values: 700 – 1023 indicate that the sensor is in darker surroundings. The lower values: 0 - 650 indicate lighter surroundings when there is sufficient light on the sensor or its surroundings on the web server which display the plotted values in real-time. The system has been found to be viable and economical in the long run compared to the conventional system which uses fossil fuels. The solar energy received from the sun is converted to electrical energy by the solar panel. A proportion of the energy is used during the day while some is stored in the battery to be used at night or when the weather is cloudy. The controller regulates the liquid level in storage with the aid of liquid level sensor and affords the user the opportunity to control the system remotely. This system can be used for small and remote applications.

ABSTRACT Rotary steerable systems (RSS) have transformed directional drilling over the years and are becoming widely accepted throughout the world. RSS technology has been proven to provide the required strength and agility in challenging and abrasive environments as well as provide a higher rate of penetration (ROP) by allowing more weight transfer to the bit. Due to the higher price of RSS, some companies have stayed loyal to the conventional bent housing (CBH) with a performance drilling motor, regardless of the RSS benefits. This paper examines the performance and cost benefits of standalone RSS (SA-RSS), motor driven RSS (MD-RSS), and CBH systems. Three wells drilled in the Caney formation in Southwestern Oklahoma were selected for the analysis. Results showed that using RSS in the 12.25" intermediate vertical section and the 8.75"/8.5" lateral section was more cost-effective than a CBH system. The cost per foot for the CBH was 1.6 to 2.3 times higher than RSS in the vertical section and 1.7 times higher in the lateral section. The RSS ROP was 2.3 to 4.8 times faster than CBH in the vertical section and 1.6 times faster in the lateral section. INTRODUCTION In the USA and worldwide unconventional oil and gas wells are pushing the technical limits of existing drilling tools and technology to drill longer horizontal and extended reach wells (ERW), with ERW becoming the mainstream technology. For example, horizontal wells in the United States averaged about 10,000 feet of lateral length in the early 2000s but averaged 18,000 feet in 2019 (USA Energy Administration, 2020). One of the longest ERW wells drilled in the world (offshore Orlan, Russia) was in 2017 and reached a total depth (TD) of 49,000 feet (Slav, 2019). In Oklahoma, the test area for this paper, 1,379 horizontal wells were completed between 2020 and 2022, with an average well length of 18,624 feet and an average perforated length of 8,000 feet (Oklahoma Corporation Commission, 2023).

A new process for converting natural gas into liquid fuels and other petroleum products is described, as is the increased market opportunity this technology portends for gas turbine manufacturers. The GTL technology, developed by Syntroleum Corporation, utilizes Autothermal Reforming with air to produce a nitrogen-diluted synthesis gas having a near ideal ratio for converting into synthetic hydrocarbons via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. A proprietary catalyst system achieves conversion rates comparable to conventional F-T processes without the need for recycling. This results in plant capital costs low enough to make conversion of remote and/or sub-quality gas into synthetic fuels economical at current oil prices. The process is energy self-sufficient and compact enough to be constructed in small sizes for plants in remote areas, including floating or platform facilities to utilize offshore gas reserves. It can also be scaled up for 50,000 BPD or larger applications.

Abstract With the in-depth development of Bohai Oilfield, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the water cut of some old wells become too high to produce while nearby remaining recoverable reserves are still considerable. In order to maximize recovery and reduce well construction cost, herringbone multilateral horizontal well drilling and completion technology is employed to increase drainage area of single well and make full use of well slot and old wellbore. Considering the current development of oilfield and the geological characteristics of reservoir, the technical difficulties of herringbone multilateral horizontal well drilling and completion technology including high build-up rate, easy blockage of drilling tools in the sidetracking in open hole, easy collapse and instability of sandwich wall and high requirements for drilling fluid performance are analyzed and solved. This technology has been successfully applied in three wells with total 6 branches and the production of three wells is twice higher than that of conventional horizontal wells with no water cut, which fully verified the reliability of the branch well tools and the feasibility of the technology. Herringbone multilateral horizontal well drilling and completion technology provides a new idea for the treatment of low production and low efficiency wells in a sustainable way and will be widely promoted and applied in Bohai oilfield, which can also provide reference for other high water cut oilfields.

Piasecki Aircraft Corporation (PiAC) and Continuum Dynamics, Inc. (CDI) are investigating noise levels of the PA890,an emergent eVTOL slowed rotor winged compound (SRWC) configuration using the CHARM/PSU-WOPWOP aeroacoustic analysis. While the adoption of electric drive eliminates engine noise, this design allows several operational degrees of freedom that permit it to further mitigate noise mechanisms associated with conventional single rotor helicopters, including: lift compounding to offload the main rotor; reduction of main rotor RPM in cruise; and a dual mode (antitorque/pusher) tail rotor that allows alternate modes of operation for targeted forward flight conditions, with significant potential for noise reduction. This paper provides an overview of an acoustics analysis of the PA890 eVTOL SRWC configuration, including a comparison to an existing single rotor civil helicopter; and the principal noise mechanisms affecting each type of aircraft and the opportunities offered by the SRWC configuration to mitigate them. Ongoing work to further clarify important noise mechanisms is also outlined.

Abstract Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology is used by transit agencies in large cities to maximize the use of their infrastructure. In comparison with conventional block signal system and cab signaling system, CBTC provides the most efficient capabilities with respect to headway and throughput while being the most economical in terms of maintenance cost [1]. CBTC also provides better diagnostic capabilities compared to traditional signaling systems. It uses limited number of equipment on the trackside compared to traditional signaling systems and allows either a centralized architecture or distributed architecture. For these reasons, CBTC is now the favored system for new lines as well as most signaling system renewals.[1] Despite widely used CBTC standards, the signaling industry is not in agreement regarding what qualifies as a CBTC system and which projects are the first “real” CBTC projects. This work describes the different CBTC vendors, their genesis, when access point based radio was first introduced (access point based radio is also referred by signaling engineers as free space propagation radio), the different consolidations with other CBTC companies, and their major projects. From the authors’ viewpoint, it is appropriate to present the CBTC vendors by geographical areas, for instance in North America: Bombardier Transportation, Thales Rail Signaling Solutions, in Europe: Alstom Transport, Hitachi Rail, Siemens Mobility, in Asia: Beijing Traffic Control Technology, China Railway Signal and Communications, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, and Nippon Signals.

In order to improve solid particle erosion (SPE) resistance for steam turbine blades and nozzles, in corporation with Kobe Steel, Ltd., evaluation of hard coatings of TiN and TiAlN deposited by the Arc Ion Plating (AIP®) process was performed to verify applicability to an actual steam turbine. The results of high-temperature steam oxidation tests and room-temperature sand erosion tests showed that the TiAlN coating had high-temperature stability superior to that of the TiN coating, and erosion resistance far superior to that in the case of the conventional CrC thermal spray coating and boronizing treatment. High-temperature fatigue and creep tests showed that the characteristic strength of the blade material with the TiAlN coating was equal or superior to that of the base blade material. On the basis of the results of comprehensive evaluation, it was confirmed that the TiAlN hard coating has excellent applicability to an actual steam turbine and it was successfully applied to steam turbine blades of power plants in Japan.

Abstract This paper describes the use of managed pressure drilling (MPD) and managed pressure cementing (MPC) technology on a high-pressure high-temperature (HP/HT) well in North-Eastern onshore, India by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC), a leading exploration and production company in India in collaboration with Halliburton, one of the major oilfield service providers globally. The bottom-hole temperature recorded in this well is 151°C and bottom-hole pressure of over 15,000psi at target depth. The MPD technology was utilized for drilling the well for the first time in ONGC. The near wild cat well was successfully drilled and cemented to a depth of 4,840 mMD and made history by tapping into Lower Bhuban and Barail sands for the first time, while successfully drilling in uncertain pore pressure environments, managing gas and water kicks, coping with loss zones, and identifying production zones together with pore pressure estimation. The well posed many challenges including uncertain pore pressures, highly unstable formations, likelihood of differential sticking and high-pressures/high-temperatures. The operator had attempted to drill the well conventionally in the past which had to be abandoned due to technical complications owing to high pore pressure gas and water sands as well as high differential pressure. MPD uses a closed-loop system that adds an increased level of environmental protection and allows for the use of an automated early kick detection system for increased safety. The automated MPD system was incorporated for the two well sections (12-1/4" and 8-1/2" hole sections) to provide control, flexibility, and safety required to drill and mitigate these risks. This implementation allowed to drill 2,013 meters (6,604 feet) in an extremely challenging zone in stable and safe conditions. The well was drilled to a target depth of 4,840 meters (15,880 feet). Deployment of an extensive MPD surface control system (along with rotating control device, fully automated choke manifold and back-pressure pump) allowed drilling and cementing of the well in a safe and efficient manner without any breach to safety and service quality. The MPD technology enabled ONGC to reduce the mud weight while drilling the well by balancing the formation pressure with application of additional SBP from surface using MPD choke manifold. This helped ONGC tackle the narrow drilling window along with early-kick management in HP/HT environment. The well was drilled to target depth of 4,840 mMD, making it the deepest drilled and cased hole in Tripura, Asset India. Major formation information on Lower Bhuban and Barail sands was obtained along with ascertaining zones of interest by allowing early detection of formation changes and hydrocarbon zones. The formation was non-drillable through conventional approach and implementation of MPD technology made it possible. The operation was carried out with extensive remote support from team in global and region considering pandemic situation.

Streszczenie:
Metrolinx, Toronto’s rail authority currently has 200 engineering projects underway with a value of $16 billion. One of the largest projects is a $4 billion Electrification Project for the Toronto commuter rail lines. In support of the engineering design of the project, in November of 2015 Tulloch Engineering was contracted to provide a complete engineering survey of six Metrolinx railway commuter corridors originating from Union Station in Toronto, Canada. Tulloch used a unique combination of mobile LiDAR, static LiDAR, and conventional infill ground survey to complete the project. LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a surveying method that measures distance to a target by illuminating that target with a laser light. Using LiDAR technology provided significant advantages to the Electrification Project over using convention ground survey techniques. Metrolinx is a Canadian crown corporation responsible for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area’s GO Transit rail and bus commuter system. GO Transit trains currently carry 190,000 commuters per day. Electrification of Metrolinx GO Transit rail commuter rail corridors requires the upgrading of infrastructure and providing a means of getting the electricity to the trains which includes new electrical substations, overhead power lines and new equipment. The electrification is part of the GO Regional Express Rail program, which will expand the capacity of the GO rail network to provide customers with faster, more frequent and more convenient service to and from dozens of stations in core sections of the GO rail network throughout the day, evenings and weekends. Electrification is planned for most of Metrolinx commuter rail corridors by 2022–2024. The engineering technical and program management consultant for the Electrification Project is Gannett Fleming. An initial requirement for Metrolinx Electrification project is an up to date engineering survey to enable the preliminary engineering design. Our survey project involves surveying approximately 170 miles of railway corridor for 6 GO Transit tracks originating from Union Station in downtown Toronto. Our mobile LiDAR survey system was mounted on a GO Transit hi-rail truck; with most of the surveying occurring at night due to the heavy train traffic and since LiDAR is an active sensor. Tulloch provided a unique hybrid surveying approach, using mobile LiDAR surveying to collect all the visible features in the corridor, followed by conventional ground surveys to fill in missing features obscured from the LiDAR system’s field of view and static LiDAR surveys for some of the bridges inaccessible with mobile LiDAR. This is the first time Metrolinx has contracted an engineering survey using these multiple survey technologies. This survey approach reduces delivery timelines, limits track disruptions, and greatly improves safety. A major advantage of mobile LiDAR surveying for the GO-Transit rail corridors is that collection can occur at night when train activity is low and in a fraction of the time it takes to survey using conventional ground crews. This enabled project schedules to be advanced, as base mapping was completed in about 60% of the normal time required for the engineering survey. Using mobile scanning on the tracks reduced safety risks associated with on track field surveys. In addition, the resultant LiDAR point cloud can be revisited in the office, and additional features and critical information picked up without having to send field crews back to do so. The homogeneous nature of the point cloud, combined with the conventional in-fill survey provides a rich, full feature data set that can be used at various stages in the engineering design process.

The Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. found that Scandpower has software that is capable of predicting the transient response of a pipeline segment transporting either conventional or enriched dense phase natural gas mixtures when subjected to a controlled blow down or an uncontrolled rupture event. Consequently PRCI expressed a desire to pursue an experimental work to provide the basis for evaluating the adequacy of the existing software and/or define further development if any. NOVA Research and Technology Corporation (NRTC) was awarded a contract to perform the experimental work and compare results with prediction by the OLGA 2000 software. The existing NPS 2 stainless steel decompression tube test rig at TCPL Gas Dynamic Test Facility (GDTF) in Didsbury, Alberta, Canada, has been expanded specifically for this project. The initial length of 30 meters was extended to 172 meters in order to simulate a longer length to diameter (L/D) ratio. Two sets of tests were conducted: one to simulate pipeline rupture and another to simulate controlled blowdown. Rupture was simulated by a rupture disc located at one end of the tube, while blowdown was affected by a typical blowdown stack and a reduce-bore ball valve. The test scope included three gas mixtures (conventional, medium rich and rich) and three initial pressures: 10, 14 and 20 MPa.
