Countoura-Galaki</p><p> Sainte Euphémie dans le contexte des relations entre papes et empereurs byzantins </p><p>Dans le cadre de ses persécutions, Constantin V a essayé de faire disparaître le culte de sainte Euphémie, en jetant ses reliques à la mer; ce geste du second empereur iconoclaste n'avait pas tant à faire avec la fureur iconoclaste que lui attribuent les sources; il était au contraire un geste purement politique.</p><p>Sainte Euphémie qui avait abrité dans sa basilique à Chalcédoine le IVe Concile Oecuménique, en 451, symbolisait les canons de ce concile, qui stipulaient l'Orthodoxie oecuménique et la concorde entre les papes et les empereurs byzantins. Antérieurement au VIIIème siècle, trois papes (Gélase, Donus, Serge 1er) qui étaient entrés en conflit avec les empereurs Anastase 1er, Constant II et Justinien II respectivement, avaient dédié dés basiliques en l'honneur de Sainte Euphémie en insinuant de cette façon que les empereurs contre lesquels ils s'étaient heurtés, n'avaient pas respecté les canons de Chalcédoine.</p><p>Au VIIIème siècle, lorsque la Papauté rejete la souveraineté byzantine et sont posées les bases de l'état pontifical. Sainte Euphémie perd de son importance antérieure et est remplacée, pour ainsi dire, du côté des papes, par Saint Silvestre, qui représente la nouvelle réalité: l'indépendance de l'Occident de la souveraineté byzantine. En brisant, de son côté, le symbolisme pontifical de Sainte Euphémie, Constantin V manifestait son intention de soumettre le clergé supérieur universel à l'institution impériale byzantine.</p>

(francuski) La question de l'origine du tsar bulgare Constantin Asen (1257-1277), plus souvent appel? dans l'historiographie moderne Constantin Tich (Tih), a ?t? depuis longtemps pos?e. Les sources susceptibles d'y r?pondre sont peu nombreuses et parfaitement r?pertori?es. A commencer par Constantin Asen lui-m?me qui, dans sa charte d?livr?e au monast?re Saint-Georges pr?s de Skopje, range 'saint Simeon Nemanja, a?eul de mon empire' au nombre des anciens kt?tors de cet ?tablissement. Pour ce qui est des auteurs byzantins, chez Georges Akropolyt?s, son contemporain, ce tsar est ? plusieurs reprises appel? Constantin fils de Tich ou simplement Constantin; un peu plus tard Georges Pachym?re le d?signe une premi?re fois comme Constantin Tich, puis, par la suite, r?guli?rement comme Constantin avec l'int?ressante pr?cision que celui-ci ?tait par sa naissance pour moitie (ex ?miseias) serbe; plus tard encore, Nic?phore Gr?goras, parle d'un puissant seigneur portant le pr?nom de Constantin et le 'nom' (ep?nymon) de Tich. En 1258/59, dans son inscription de kt?tor appos?e dans une ?glise ? Bojana, un certain s?bastocrator Kalojan fait ?tat, en sa qualit? de 'fils du fr?re du tsar' et de 'petit-fils du saint roi Stefan', de liens de parente avec le tsar r?gnant en Bulgarie, Constantin Asen, et le d?funt roi de Serbie, Stefan le Premier Couronne (Prvovencani). Enfin, dans l'historiographie byzantine, il ressort clairement du r?cit relatif a la crise de succession en Bulgarie en 1257 que Constantin n'?tait pas membre de la dynastie des Asen. Jusqu'a pr?sent, le lien de parente de Constantin Tich (Tih) avec le grand joupan de Serbie Stefan Nemanja (1166-1196), plus tard devenu moine et saint sous le nom de Simeon, a ?t? le plus souvent recherch?e ? travers une lign?e f?minine, soit une hypoth?tique fille de Nemanja inconnue des sources, qui aurait ?t? la m?re ce tsar. Cette solution pourrait cependant ne pas ?tre la seule piste envisageable. Pour cela il faut revenir ? la charte de Saint-Georges et au terme d''a?eul (de mon empire)' qui marquant la parente, peut s'appliquer dans des cas d'ascendance directe mais aussi indirecte. Constantin aurait donc pu tout aussi bien afficher a travers celui-ci une parente quelque peu plus ?loigne avec Nemanja, passant par un des fr?res, voire une tr?s hypoth?tique s?ur, de ce dernier. Ainsi, celui que nous appellerions aujourd'hui un 'grand-oncle', a pu ?tre d?sign? dans cette charte comme un 'a?eul (de mon empire)'. Qu'un tel lien de parente, m?me indirect, surtout avec saint Simeon (notamment au vu de l'essor de son culte), c'est-?-dire non seulement l'existence d'une ascendance et d'un droit de succession directs, ait pu ?tre un raison suffisante pour en appeler ? celle-ci est attest?e par l'exemple chronologiquement proche de l'inscription fun?raire du joupan Stefan Prvoslav, appos?e vers 1220, dans laquelle ce dernier est, entre autre, qualifie de 'neveu de saint Simeon Nemanja'. En ce sens, la pr?cision relev?e chez Pachym?re pourrait, elle aussi, sugg?rer, par sa formulation, que Constantin ?tait d'origine serbe par son p?re et non par sa m?re. Cet auteur s'en tenait assur?ment au principe selon lequel l'origine par le p?re ?tait sous-en-tendue, alors que l'origine par la m?re devait ?tre signal?e si n?cessaire. Les meilleurs exemples en sont les passages o? il rapporte, s'agissant du fils du roi de Hongrie Stefan IV, qu'il ?tait d''origine rom?e (r?mogen?s), par sa m?re' la fille de l'empereur Th?odore Ier, et, s'agissant du tsar de Bulgarie Th?odore Svetoslav, qu'il ?tait 'Bulgare par sa m?re, car son p?re Terter ?tait Coman'. Hormis ces remarques de nature g?n?rale, une m?me conclusion concernant l'origine du tsar de Bulgarie Constantin s'impose ?galement ? la lecture du r?cit de Pachym?re. Sa relation des troubles survenus en 1257 lors de la succession au tr?ne de Bulgarie montre qu'en l'absence de descendant male de la lign?e des Asen, les liens de parente et l'origine nationale des pr?tendants ont jou? un r?le cl? dans la r?solution de la question de la l?galit? du pouvoir et, plus g?n?rale, de la crise de succession. On y apprend que le premier candidat Myts?s (Mico), ?tait ? la fois gendre d'Ivan II Asen (1218-1241), ainsi que beau-fr?re de Th?odore II Lascaris (1254-1258) et Bulgare (Boylgaros ?n), et pouvait pr?tendre - ? ce double titre - ? exercer le pouvoir sur les Bulgares, mais que les puissants se sont ranges aux cotes de Constantin, qui ?tait pour moitie serbe (ek Serb?n ex ?miseias to genos echonta). De fait, ne pouvant se pr?valoir de quelque lien de parente avec les Asen et d'un droit quel qu'il soit ? la succession au tr?ne, Constantin a par la suite pris pour ?pouse Ir?ne, fille de Th?odore II Lascaris et ni?ce de Ivan II Asen, ce qui lui a conf?re le m?me droit au tr?ne des Asen qu'a son concurrent Myts?s (ep' is?n eiche to pros t?n toy Asan basileian dikaion t? Mytz?). Et c'est pr?cis?ment le fait que tout en ayant un p?re serbe, et une m?re, par cons?quent bulgare, c'est lui qui a ?t? d?sign? tsar gr?ce ? son prestige de puissant seigneur de Bulgarie, qui a amen? la remarque de Pachym?re. On peut difficilement imaginer que la situation inverse, ? savoir si Constantin avait eu un p?re bulgare et une m?re serbe, aurait pu avoir quelque incidence de nature politique sur le r?sultat de la crise de succession au tr?ne, au point de trouver ensuite un ?cho dans l'historiographie. Dans l'historiographie moderne il a depuis longtemps ?tait avanc? que Tich (Tih) devait ?tre une abr?viation de Tihomir, Tihoslav, Tihota ou Tihotica. Ceci nous am?ne ici ? supposer que le p?re de Constantin s'appelait en fait Tihomir. Il nous appara?t, en effet, en raison d'une similitude, voire identit?, de pr?nom que le fr?re a?n? de Nemanja, dont on pense que le pr?nom ?tait Tihomir et qui a ?t?, en son temps, grand joupan (1163/65-1166), pourrait ?tre un ?l?ment tout particuli?rement int?ressant s'agissant de la question de l'origine du tsar Constantin. Son activit? entre 1166 et 1168, apr?s que son fr?re Stefan Nemanja l'a destitu? du pouvoir, pourrait m?me ?tre rattach?e ? la Skopje byzantine. Par ailleurs, un document de l'archev?que de Ochrid Dimitrius Chomatianos, en date de 1220, fait mention d'un certain archonte de Skopje du nom de Jovan Tihomirov ou Jovan Tihomir (?toy ?I?annoy toy Teichomoiroy) - Tihomir est ici tr?s vraisemblablement un patronyme, puisqu'il est peut probable qu'il s'agisse de deux nom propres - qui, vers la fin du XIIe si?cle, r?gnait quasiment en ma?tre sur la ville. Il est donc permis de supposer l'existence d'un lien de parente entre ce Jovan et, d'une part l'ancien grand joupan Tihomir (fils) et, d'autre part, le tsar de Bulgarie Constantin (oncle ou p?re). Cette construction ne repose toutefois, pour l'essentiel, que sur une similitude de pr?noms. Partant de cette suppos?e parente entre le tsar Constantin et l'archonte de Skopje Jovan Tihomir certains chercheurs ont d?j? avance l'hypoth?se que Constantin est mont? sur le tr?ne bulgare en 1257 en tant que puissant seigneur de Skopje ou gouverneur de la r?gion de Skopje. On note cependant que d'autres chercheurs consid?rent que cette m?me ann?e 1257 a vu une br?ve domination du roi de Serbie Uros sur Skopje. Cette information, qui n'est en fait connue que d'apr?s une seule source tardive, ? savoir la charte du fils d'Uros, Milutin d?livr?e au monast?re de Chilandar en 1299/1300, a ainsi ?t? rapproch?e des ?v?nements mentionn?s dans l'Histoire de Georges Acropolit?s pour l'ann?e 1257, lorsque le roi de Serbie, en tant qu'allie du despote Michel II Ange, a pris Kicevo et d?vast? les environs de Prilep. Or, dans une charte de Milutin d?livr?e au monast?re skopiote - d?j? nomme - de Saint-Georges (Gorg) datant de cette m?me ann?e 1299/1300, le tsar bulgare Constantin figure avant le roi Uros au nombre des anciens kt?tors et donateurs du monast?re. Et il s'entend que les kt?tors sont ici tr?s certainement mentionnes selon l'ordre chronologique de la domination exerc?e sur Skopje. La charte de Constantin d?livr?e au m?me monast?re, dont la date n'est pas conserv?e, ne fait, elle non plus, nullement ?tat d'une charte ant?rieure de Uros. Et Il convient ici de prendre avec r?serve le suppose itin?raire - passant par Skopje et Polog pour atteindre Kicevo et Prilep - de l'exp?dition du roi de Serbie Uros en 1257, car des t?moignages attestent parfaitement l'existence d'un itin?raire alternatif, mais tout aussi important et utilise, allant de Prizren ? Tetovo en logeant les contreforts du massif de la Sara, de sorte qu'il ?tait possible d'atteindre Kicevo depuis les territoires du roi de Serbie sans passer par Skopje. Compte tenu de tout cela, il para?t permis d'accepter la supposition voulant que l'origine du tsar Constantin soit li?e ? Skopje et ? la r?gion de Skopje. Dans les travaux s'?tant int?ress?s ? l'origine du tsar Constantin Tich, la r?ponse ? cette question a ?galement ?t? rattach?e, sur la base de l'inscription de l'?glise de Bojana, ? celle concernant l'origine du s?bastocrator Kalojan. Il ne fait aucun doute que lui non plus n'?tait pas un Asen, car, si cela avait ?t? le cas, il aurait eu le droit de pr?tendre au tr?ne laiss? vacant ? la suite des meurtres de Michel Asen et de Kaliman, or les auteurs byzantins nous apprennent pr?cis?ment que le pouvoir n'avait pas d''h?ritier l?gal' en Bulgarie. Le t?moignage apport? par l'inscription de Bojana, selon laquelle Kalojan est un 'fils du fr?re du tsar' (? savoir le tsar Constantin) et 'petit-fils du saint roi de Serbie Stefan' (? savoir Stefan le Premier Couronn?), semblerait ?tre contradictoire. Cela n'est toutefois le cas que si nous perdons de vue le fait que la notion de parent? induite par 'fils du fr?re' (bratoucad), pouvait ?galement se rapporter ? des personnes appartenant ? diff?rentes g?n?rations. Nonobstant notre connaissance encore insuffisante des d?tails prosopographiques concernant le tsar Constantin Tich et le s?bastocrator Kalojan, ces deux Nemanjic, porteurs de titres particuli?rement ?lev?s, sont deus personnages int?ressants qui attestent parfaitement de la mobilit? horizontale et verticale au sein du monde byzantin, autrement du 'commenwealth byzantin', compris au sens le plus large.

Articolul prezintă o serie de personalități ale cercetării științifice ce au contribuit semnificativ la edificarea Facultății de Silvicultură din Suceava. Pe lângă cele trei cadrele didactice în prezent titulare (autorul articolului, prof Radu cenușă și conf. Mihai-Leonard Duduman) aducem un cald omagiu celorlalți cercetători ce au predat diverse discipline că titulari sau in regim de plata cu ora (acad. dr.ing. Victor Giurgiu, dr.ing. Constantin Roșu dr.ing. Ion Barbu, dr.ing. Nicolai Olenici), dar, mai ales, celor patru mari anonimi care, indirect, prin sugestiile făcute și donațiile de carte, au ajutat la crearea unui plan de învățământ modern, chiar dacă nu toate disciplinele pe care le-au propus inițial s-au regăsit în acesta. Respectivele personalități au fost dr.ing. Radu Ichim, dr.ing. Constantin Bândiu, dr.ing. Nicolae Geamabașu și dr.ing. Radu Dissescu.

El propósito de este trabajo es saber, a través de un análisis de contenido cuantitativo, cómo fue el cubrimiento de las dos primeras temporadas de la serie Narcos en la prensa española y estadounidense. Serie web de drama criminal, cuyo protagonista es el extinto capo del Cartel de Medellín: Pablo Escobar Gaviria. Aplicado a un total de 85 unidades de análisis, se extraen los principales actantes, temáticas y géneros periodísticos utilizados durante las dinámicas de producción de los medios; además de un estudio de la imagen de Pablo Escobar, Medellín y Colombia mediante la identificación de conceptos constantes durante el cubrimiento de la prensa. Los resultados señalan que, aunque se mantuvo un equilibrio periodístico durante el cubrimiento, hay diferencia en el abordaje de las temáticas de la serie por geolocalización. Mientras los periódicos españoles recurren a las noticias y las entrevistas a los actores que participan en la serie; los periódicos estadounidenses se apoyan en la investigación documental y presencial.

A partir del siglo III los emperadores romanos hubieron de hacer frente a la crisis por la que atravesaba el Estado. Uno de los aspectos más endebles del sistema era el económico y, para solucionarlo, los emperadores llevaron a cabo una serie de reformas monetarias; la que perduraría en el tiempo –más allá de la desintegración del Estado Romano a mediados del siglo V- sería la efectuada por Constantino I, continuadora de otra reforma anterior liderada por Diocleciano. Este cambio en el sistema monetario estuvo vigente en nuestra Península, ya bajo el dominio visigodo, hasta bien entrado el siglo VII. Asimismo, se mantuvo también en el Imperio Bizantino, heredero del Imperio Romano y posicionado con fuerza en el otro extremo del Mediterráneo. En el estudio se analizan las semejanzas y diferencias de ambos sistemas monetarios –el visigodo y el bizantino-, haciendo particular referencia a la acuñación de sólidos. Su acuñación tomó como modelo el sistema monetario romano creado a partir de la reforma de Constantino I.

A lo largo de la literatura la pregunta por qué es una constante lógica ha recibido distintas respuestas desde los acercamientos de la teoría de modelos (Tarski; 1966), (Sher; 1991), (Gómez Torrente; 2003), (Bonnay; 2007) hasta las respuestas que centran el significado en las reglas de uso (Dummett; 1991), (Prawitz; 1965). Frente a la segunda corriente filosófica se han presentado algunos inconvenientes ineludibles, en particular la constante ‘tonk’ (Prior; 1960 ) frente a la que los defensores del inferencialismo en lógica han presentado varias soluciones, en particular la armonía. El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar que los distintos criterios de ‘armonía’ que se utilizan en semántica de la prueba para establecer qué es una constante lógica no cumplen con su objetivo ya que no son necesario o suficientes. Presentaré las razones filosóficas por las que surge el concepto de ‘armonía’ y luego describiré las distintas formas en las que la literatura suele entender el concepto de ‘armonía’. Luego mostraré que o bien sobregeneran o bien subgeneran conectivas en base a una serie de contraejemplos. Finalmente, desarrollaré algunas razones filosóficas que deberían delimitar por dónde continuar la búsqueda de una definición satisfactoria del concepto de ‘armonía’.

Contemporary architecture increasingly stands out as a new area of cultural heritage. The "religious patrimony of the future" is one of the principal components which fits naturally into the logical process of preservation and transfer, of the architectural heritage from one generation to the other. The patrimonial process represents the only way to identify and evaluate these "prominent qualities", through different methods of evaluation. this study aims to assess the aesthetic value, considered as one of the essential characteristics of the university mosque in Constantine. It also aims to trigger its heritage process. The methodology was for quantitative and qualitative analysis (quaternaries and formal investigation). The analysis of its outward composition and overall form fits not only into a specific theoretical framework related to the philosophy of art and the subjectivity of beauty perception but depends more on an "in situ" investigation. The evaluation criteria adopted for this study focuses on the values of balance, dominance, unity and variety as well as the parameters of rhythm, proportion and perfect angles. The finding of this study reveals that these criteria made evident different constructive logics used at this university mosque such as the use of Doric proportions and privileged angles, which could serve as an objective argument in according aesthetic value to this mosque in Constantine and prepare its patrimonial future as a religious heritage for future generations.

Together, like a latter-day Adam and Eve, they roam through an Eden-like garden called the ‘Paradou’, seeking a forbidden tree in whose shade they will make love. Zola memorably shows their gradual awakening to sexuality, and his poetic descriptions of the luxuriant and beautiful Paradou create a lyrical celebration of Nature. When Serge regains his memory and recalls his priestly vows, anguish inevitably follows. AbstractThe Haigis formula, like other optical formulas, is based on thin lens optics. However, while all other formulas use only one constant (like the ACD constant, the A-constant, or the surgeon factor) for a given IOL, the Haigis formula uses three (a0, a1, and a2). In addition, apart from the axial length, the anterior chamber depth is taken to serve as a predictor for the postoperative IOL position. By this approach, it is possible to represent an IOL by a curve (optical ACD vs axial length) rather than a number. The power of the formula evolves after optimization with individualization of constants insofar as it allows a mean zero prediction error for the postoperative refraction irrespective of axial length. Although a classical optimization on the basis of one constant is possible, Haigis recommends optimization of the three constants, a0, a1, and a2, derived from a statistical analysis of postoperative results. Thus, for every intraocular lens, an individual curve is defined for optimum prediction of the postoperative IOL position allowing a mean zero prediction error for all axial lengths.

The tradition of medieval maps is studied, mainly that of the mappae mundi, representations of the oecumene or the terrestrial sphere. These images, diagrammatic or offering topographical details, originate from the educational tradition of Antiquity. They are found in great numbers in manuscripts, but also in monumental ensembles (religious buildings or palaces). They were constantly reworked according to the interests of their authors and the functions they attributed to them. Their functions are varied: knowledge of the places they depict is a prerequisite for allegorical exegesis; in monasteries, they serve as a support for spiritual practices; sovereignty is justified by domination over a world they represent; military expeditions are planned thanks to the geopolitical vision they provide.

AbstractMeasuring the rate at which the universe expands at a given time–the ‘Hubble constant’– has been a topic of controversy since the first measure of its expansion by Edwin Hubble in the 1920s. As early as the 1970s, Sandage and de Vaucouleurs have been arguing about the adequate methodology for such a measurement. Should astronomers focus only on their best indicators, e.g., the Cepheids, and improve the precision of this measurement based on a unique object to the best possible? Or should they “spread the risks”, i.e., multiply the indicators and methodologies before averaging over their results? Is a robust agreement across several uncertain measures, as is currently argued to defend the existence of a ‘Hubble crisis’ more telling than a single 1% precision measurement? This controversy, I argue, stems from a misconception of what managing the uncertainties associated with such experimental measurements require. Astrophysical measurements, such as the measure of the Hubble constant, require a methodology that permits both to reduce the known uncertainties and to track the unknown unknowns. Based on the lessons drawn from the so-called Hubble crisis, I sketch a methodological guide for identifying, quantifying and reducing uncertainties in astrophysical measurements, hoping that such a guide can not only help to re-frame the current Hubble tension, but serve as a starting point for future fruitful discussions between astrophysicists, astronomers and philosophers.

AbstractThis chapter sketches the activities of Danish journalists in British exile, 1940–1945 with a particular emphasis on their engagement with “propaganda”. Drawing on Danish private archives, and British official records, it analyses how these journalists were constantly obliged to negotiate contradictory legitimacies. Their professional identity as journalists became challenged by their obligation to serve British war propaganda and, conversely, to assist in the Danish exile community’s efforts to salvage Denmark’s international standing following the Danish “policy of negotiation” with Germany. It argues that due to a combination of the creativity of the journalists and the development of the war, they were able, during its last phase (1944–1945), to take on new roles as facilitators of a news and intelligence flow between London, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

AbstractBiocultural diversity refers to the dynamic interrelationship between the Earth’s biological, cultural, and linguistic diversity. The concept draws strength from the fact that biodiversity-rich regions of the world are also rich in cultural and linguistic diversities. This volume adds to scholarship in biocultural diversity with case studies from geographical Southeast Asia. The chapters presented in the volume, based on research in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Northeast India demonstrate i) how traditional ecological calendars and calendar keepers serve as repositories of knowledge on landscapes and their resources, ii) the importance of folk medicine for healthcare in contemporary Southeast Asia, and iii) how folk names of flora and fauna serve as condensed forms of traditional knowledge on biodiversity. While highlighting the importance of customary ways of knowing and categorizing the environment in areas such as resource management, conservation, and healthcare, the chapters also demonstrate that traditional environmental knowledge and the practical skills which accompany it are not necessarily widely shared and are under constant threat. As Southeast Asia marches forward in pursuit of economic growth, it would also have to ensure that its biocultural diversity stays alive, nurturing local communities for generations to come.

In this light, the mobility sector has undergone a great change over the past few years, which is formed by digital technologies on a large scale. Against this background, this article will demonstrate, based on the example of the iCity research project, to what extent the research design of transdisciplinary living labs can serve as a basis for the development of innovative and sustainable mobility solutions. At the same time, the influence of digitalization which plays a major role in developing real implementable solutions for such challenges will be examined.

Abstract This chapter presents a proof-theoretical approach to the question ‘What is a logical constant?’ The approach starts with the assumption that logic is the science of formal deductions, and that basic formal deductions are structural deductions, i.e. deductions independent of any constant of the language to which the premises and conclusions belong. Logical constants, on which the remaining formal deductions are dependent, may be said to serve as ‘punctuation marks’ for some structural features of deductions. This punctuation function, exhibited in equivalences which amount to analyses of logical constants, is taken as a criterion for being a logical constant. The chapter presents an account of philosophical analysis which covers the proposed analyses of logical constants. Some related assumptions concerning logic are also considered. In particular, since a logical system is completely determined by its structural deductions, alternative logical systems arise by changing structural deductions while having constants with the same punctuation function. Some other approaches to the question ‘What is a logical constant?’, grammatical, model-theoretical, and proof- theoretical, are briefly considered.

Through a systematic literature review, this chapter aims at mapping the servant leader's psychosomatic traits in organizational contexts, and how these induce beneficial effects in organizational performance. It predicts that such leaders would need to display those traits, crystallized into a set of attitudes and behaviors, to address, manage, and overcome the challenges brought by globalization. Leaders would need to be keen on displaying broad knowledge and experience, as well as boundless curiosity and enthusiasm, which also connects to the need of entailing a contagious optimism towards every aspect of life, openly believing in people and teamwork. They need to be assertive and assume high standards in ethical and moral terms, taking risks, and focusing on the long-term growth. Such leaders will commit to excellence, making use of a constant adaptive capacity, because authenticity, integrity, cooperation, and confidence are their distinctive trademarks. Those personality traits, exerted under the servant leadership style, increase overall organizational performance.

In the Cable-Trench Problem (CTP), the objective is to find a rooted spanning tree of a weighted graph that minimizes the length of the tree, scaled by a non-negative factor , plus the sum of all shortest-path lengths from the root, scaled by another non-negative factor. This is an intermediate optimization problem between the Single-Destination Shortest Path Problem and the Minimum Spanning Tree Problem. In this extended abstract, we consider the Generalized CTP (GCTP), in which some vertices need not be connected to the root, but may serve as cost-saving merging points; this variant also generalizes the Steiner Tree Problem. We present an 8.599-approximation algorithm for GCTP. Before this paper, no constant approximation for the standard CTP was known.

In Croatian Glagolitic breviaries written from the 14th to the 16th century we find numerous patristic texts inserted from homilies, sermons, treatises and commentaries written by Saint Augustine, Ambrose, Gregory the Great, Origen, Jerome, John Chrysostom etc. At the Old Church Slavonic Institute, two integrated digital databases serve as platforms for their detailed and comparative research. The tabular review of the results in the bib.stin. hr database enables a quick comparison of the transmission of homilies in the Glagolitic liturgical books. Their linguistic similarities and differences, as well as basic palaeographical description, are provided in the database beram. stin.hr that has been developed under the Research Centre of Excellence for Croatian Glagolitism. The goal of the paper is to present the contribution of these two databases in further researching the patristic corpus transmitted in Croatian Glagolitic liturgical books.

Abstract Microelectromechanical devices that contain piezoelectric thin films that serve as electrical-to-mechanical transducers (actuators) or mechanical-to-electrical transducers (sensors) are receiving increasing attention. The efficiency of transduction usually depends largely on the composite elastic-piezoelectric constant d31/(s11+s12)E of the piezoelectric film. Two new methods for measuring this constant, based on the same piezoelectric device, have been developed. The analytical theory behind these methods has been worked out in detail. One method involves the measurement of small mechanical displacements. Its application to a device containing polycrystalline ZnO yielded a value of 0.13 C/m2 for the constant. The other method requires only electrical and simple geometric measurements. Its experimental implementation has not yet been completed.

The paper introduces tape springs as elements of fully compliant mechanisms. The localized folds of tape springs serve as compact revolute joints, with a very small radius and large range of motion, and the unfolded straight segments serve as links. By exploiting a tape spring’s ability to function as both links and joints, we present a new method of realizing fully compliant mechanisms with further simplification in their construction. Tape springs, typically found in carpenter tape rules, are thin-walled strips having constant thickness, zero longitudinal curvature, and a constant transverse curvature. The paper presents a closed-loop tape spring mechanism. By representing its folds as idealized revolute joints and its variable length links as sliding joints connecting rigid links, we present a modified Gruebler’s equation to determine its kinematic and idle degrees of freedom. To realize practical utility of tape spring mechanisms, we propose a simple actuation scheme incorporating shape memory alloy (SMA) wire actuators and successfully demonstrate its performance with a proof-of-concept prototype. The paper also presents potential applications for actuated tape spring mechanisms including a large displacement translational mechanism, planar positioning mechanisms, bi-stable, multi-stable, and variable stiffness mechanisms.

Este artigo apresenta o projeto e desenvolvimento de um carregador isolado de baterias chumbo-ácido. O carregador é composto por dois estágios: um abaixador, que reduz a tensão de entrada para um barramento intermediário e um segundo estágio isolado, com múltiplos conversores forward que se conectam a células individuais. Um filtro de saída do tipo LCL é projetado e, junto do modelo elétrico da bateria, serve de base para o projeto do controle, permitindo ao conversor operar tanto em modo de tensão constante (entre 1,5 e 3V) como de corrente constante (entre 2,5 e 25 A), de acordo com medições de tensão, corrente e temperatura em cada elemento. Resultados de simulação validam o projeto dos conversores e dos controladores utilizados.

It is suggested that cartographic sources serve as invaluable "keepers" of information about the enclosing landscapes.

Abstract A model correlating the group velocity of guided plate waves to temperature in anisotropic silicon substrate is presented. The model is developed through numerical solution and manipulation of the dispersion relations while elastic constants are treated as functions of temperature. Results demonstrate that adequate thermal resolution is provided by both the lowest order antisymmetric and symmetric dispersive Lamb wave modes to serve as an effective diagnostic in a non contact thermometry scheme in rapid thermal processing (RTP) of silicon wafers.

Detailed knowledge of a coolant flow in a fuel assembly of a reactor core has always been a major factor in the design of new nuclear systems. In this regard, traditionally adopted subchannel analysis codes cannot take into account local phenomena, which are quite essential. On the other hand, Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) is being recognized as a valuable research tool for thermal-hydraulics phenomenon in the fuel assembly geometries. Because of the high Reynolds number and geometric complexities, the practical CFD calculations are mostly limited to pragmatic Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) type modelling approaches. A good prediction of the flow and heat transport inside the fuel rod bundle is a challenge for such RANS turbulence models and these models need to be validated. Although the measurement techniques are constantly getting improved, however, the CFD-grade experiments of flow mixing and heat transfer in the subchannel scale are often impossible or quite costly to be performed. In addition, lack of experimental databases makes it impossible to validate and/or calibrate the available RANS turbulence models for certain flow situations. In that context, Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) can serve as a reference for model development and validation. The aim of this work is to design a numerical experiment in order to generate a high quality DNS database for a tight lattice bare rod bundle, which will serve as a reference for the validation purpose. The considered geometric design is based on the well-known Hooper experiment, which contains a bare rod bundle with pitch-to-diameter ratio of P/D = 1.107. Performing a DNS computation corresponding to the Hooper experiment requires a huge computational power. Hence, a wide range of unsteady RANS (URANS) study has been performed to scale-down the Reynolds number such that it is feasible for a DNS computation and at the same time it still preserves the main flow characteristics. In addition to the flow field, a parametric study for three different passive scalars is performed to take into account the heat transfer analysis. These passive scalars correspond to the Prandtl numbers of air, water and liquid metal fluids. The heat transfer of these three fluids has been studied in combination with two different boundary conditions at the walls, i.e. a constant temperature and a constant heat flux. Finally, the obtained URANS results are used to compute the Kolmogorov and Batchelor length scales in order to estimate the overall meshing requirements for the targeted DNS.

La hospitalización evitable (HE) por condiciones sensibles la atención primaria (ASCS) es un indicador directo del volumen de actividad hospitalaria potencialmente prevenible mediante cuidados oportunos y efectivos en el primer nivel asistencial, y un indicador indirecto de la capacidad resolutiva del sistema de Atención Primaria a la Salud (APS), de la efectividad y calidad de los servicios, de la reducción de costos hospitalarios y mejora de la eficiencia. Se realizó medición del indicador HE en el Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), la tasa de hospitalización evitable mostró una tendencia descendente, pasó de una tasa ajustada por edad de 87.5 por cada 10,000 personas en 2001 a 72.6 por cada 10,000 personas en 2009, se calculó el coeficiente de regresión lineal (r = 0.813; r2 = 0.662; B= -0.8; p = 0.026). De acuerdo con los resultados del estudio, se encontró que la proporción de ACSC se mantuvo relativamente constante a través del tiempo con un valor promedio de 10%. Más de la mitad (56%) de las hospitalizaciones por ACSC se concentran en 5 categorías, diabetes mellitus 18%, gastroenteritis 12%, enfermedades respiratorias (bronquitis crónica, enfisema y EPOC) con el 11%, enfermedades de la atención prenatal y parto 8%, las infecciones de vías urinarias 6%, mientras que las hospitalizaciones por padecimientos prevenibles por vacunación, anemia y desnutrición, presentaron las proporción de HE más bajas. Considerando la importancia de la reducción de costos, el uso de la HE como indicador de monitoria de desempeño del sistema de APS, permite ahorros sustanciales al concentrar esfuerzos para reducir la variación del indicador en las delegaciones con tasas por arriba de la media nacional, además de considerar intervenciones especificas por grupo de edad para aquellas condiciones de salud prioritarias. En ese contexto en el IMSS tan sólo en un año se podrían ahorrar $4,741 millones de pesos ($US 349 millones de dólares), si cada una de las delegaciones logrará reducir las hospitalizaciones evitables a la tasa promedio nacional, 198 mil egresos y ahorro de más de 919 mil días de estancia hospitalaria.

Costa Rica, tiene una población de 4.7 millones de habitantes distribuido en 51,100 Km2. Un sistema de salud público que cubre a 86% de la población y brinda servicios de salud mediante 103 áreas de salud de atención primaria y 29 hospitales. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo calcular el número de hospitalizaciones por condiciones sensibles a atención primaria asociadas a cada uno de los grupos diagnósticos establecidos en la lista de Alfradique et al (2009) y la proporción de estas en relación al total de hospitalizaciones en el año. Los datos se obtienen del Seguro Público de Salud costarricense (SPS). Se estudian 13 categorías diagnósticas agrupadas en enfermedades prevenibles por inmunización, agudas y crónicas. La unidad geográfica de análisis son las 103 áreas de salud y el periodo de estudio es 1997-2008. Una de cada diez hospitalizaciones es evitable. El 68.7% de estas hospitalizaciones se concentran en seis categorías diagnósticas: enfermedad de vías aéreas inferiores, infección de la piel y tejido subcutáneo, infección en el riñón y vías urinarias, asma, diabetes mellitus e infecciones gastrointestinales y complicaciones. Las tasas de hospitalización por ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSC) presentan un nivel de variabilidad geográfica sistemática relativamente alta y creciente en el período 2000-2010. La magnitud de las diferencia entre áreas, medida por el coeficiente de variación de las razones de hospitalización suavizadas, se incrementan en un 24% en hombres y 14% en mujeres. Los resultados del modelo bayesiano espacio-temporal permiten determinar la presencia de patrones persistentes de sobrehospitalización en la zona Sur, parte del Pacífico Central y parte de la provincia de Alajuela, tanto en hombres como en mujeres. Además, se registran patrones persistentes de infrahospitalización en la zona central del país y parte de la provincia de Guanacaste. En la Zona Sur del país se presentan una concentración de las áreas de salud con tendencia creciente y que están ubicadas dentro de zonas de alto riesgo, las cuales podrían estar asociadas a factores de riesgo constantes en dichas zonas. Estas zonas deberían tener un interés desde el punto de vista de la vigilancia epidemiológica y de planificación de servicios de salud.

Integration of ICT significantly increases the possibilities of the educational process and extends the boundaries of the educational sphere as a whole. Publicly available resources, such as e-mail, blogs, forums, online applications, video hosting sites, can serve as the basis for building open learning and education. Informational educational technologies of learning foreign languages are in the focus of this study. The article represents the results of theoretical analysis of content on the subject of its personal- and didactic-definite orientation, as well as some aspects of the practical use of commonly used YouTube video materials in the process of teaching German as the first or second foreign language in higher education, namely at the pedagogical university. Taking into account the practical experience of using the materials of several relevant thematic YouTube channels with a fairly wide constant audience, a concise didactic analysis of their product is presented and recommendations on converting video content into methodological material in the framework of practical course of German language by future teachers are offered. Due to the suggested recommendations, the following tasks can be solved: enrichment of the vocabulary; semantization of phraseological units, constant figures of speech, cliché; development of pronunciation skills; expansion of linguistic competence; improving listening and speaking skills; increasing motivation to learn, etc.

From positions, attained by modern theoretical physics in understanding of the universe bases, the methodological and philosophical analysis of fundamental physical concepts and their formal and informal connections with the real economic measuring is carried out. Procedures for heterogeneous economic time determination, normalized economic coordinates and economic mass are offered, based on the analysis of time series, the concept of economic Plank's constant has been proposed. The theory has been approved on the real economic dynamic's time series, related to the cryptocurrencies market, the achieved results are open for discussion. Then, combined the empirical cross-correlation matrix with the random matrix theory, we mainly examine the statistical properties of cross-correlation coefficient, the evolution of average correlation coefficient, the distribution of eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors of the global cryptocurrency market using the daily returns of 15 cryptocurrencies price time series across the world from 2016 to 2018. The result indicated that the largest eigenvalue reflects a collective effect of the whole market, practically coincides with the dynamics of the mean value of the correlation coefficient and very sensitive to the crisis phenomena. It is shown that both the introduced economic mass and the largest eigenvalue of the matrix of correlations can serve as quantum indicator-predictors of crises in the market of cryptocurrencies.

Wheat is the most widely grown crop on earth, together with rice it is second to maize in total global tonnage. One of the emerging threats to wheat is stripe (yellow) rust, especially in North Africa, West and Central Asia and North America. The most efficient way to control plant diseases is to introduce disease resistant genes. However, the pathogens can overcome rapidly the effectiveness of these genes when they are wildly used. Therefore, there is a constant need to find new resistance genes to replace the non-effective genes. The resistance gene pool in the cultivated wheat is depleted and there is a need to find new genes in the wild relative of wheat. Wild emmer (Triticum dicoccoides) the progenitor of the cultivated wheat can serve as valuable gene pool for breeding for disease resistance. Transferring of novel genes into elite cultivars is highly facilitated by the availability of information of their chromosomal location. Therefore, our goals in this study was to find stripe rust resistant and susceptible genotypes in Israeli T. dicoccoides population, genotype them using state of the art genotyping methods and to find association between genetic markers and stripe rust resistance. We have screened 129 accessions from our collection of wild emmer wheat for resistance to three isolates of stripe rust. About 30% of the accessions were resistant to one or more isolates, 50% susceptible, and the rest displayed intermediate response. The accessions were genotyped with Illumina'sInfinium assay which consists of 9K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. About 13% (1179) of the SNPs were polymorphic in the wild emmer population. Cluster analysis based on SNP diversity has shown that there are two main groups in the wild population. A big cluster probably belongs to the Horanum ssp. and a small cluster of the Judaicum ssp. In order to avoid population structure bias, the Judaicum spp. was removed from the association analysis. In the remaining group of genotypes, linkage disequilibrium (LD) measured along the chromosomes decayed rapidly within one centimorgan. This is the first time when such analysis is conducted on a genome wide level in wild emmer. Such a rapid decay in LD level, quite unexpected for a selfer, was not observed in cultivated wheat collection. It indicates that wild emmer populations are highly suitable for association studies yielding a better resolution than association studies in cultivated wheat or genetic mapping in bi-parental populations. Significant association was found between an SNP marker located in the distal region of chromosome arm 1BL and resistance to one of the isolates. This region is not known in the literature to bear a stripe rust resistance gene. Therefore, there may be a new stripe rust resistance gene in this locus. With the current fast increase of wheat genome sequence data, genome wide association analysis becomes a feasible task and efficient strategy for searching novel genes in wild emmer wheat. In this study, we have shown that the wild emmer gene pool is a valuable source for new stripe rust resistance genes that can protect the cultivated wheat.

Introduction. Ozone and related oxidants are regarded as the most important phytotoxic air pollutant in many parts of the western world. A previously unrecognized component of smog, nitric acid, may have even greater deleterious effects on plants either by itself or by augmenting ozone injury. The effects of ozone on plants are well characterized with respect to structural and physiological changes, but very little is known about the biochemical changes in plants and lichens exposed to ozone and/or HNO3. Objectives.To compare and contrast the responses of crop plants and lichens to dry deposition of HNO3 and O3., separately, and combined in order to assess our working hypothesis that lichens respond to air pollution faster than plants. Lichens are most suitable for use as biomonitors because they offer a live-organism-based system that does not require maintenance and can be attached to any site, without the need for man-made technical support systems. Original Immediate aims To expose the tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) cultivar Bel-W3 that is ozone supersensitive and the ozone sensitive red kidney bean (Phaseolusvulgaris) and the lichen Ramalinamenziesii to controlled HNO3 and O3 fumigations and combined and to follow the resulting structural, physiological and biochemical changes, with special reference to reactive oxygen species related parameters. Revised. Due to technical problems and time limitations we studied the lichen Ramalinamenziesii and two cultivar of tobacco: Bel-W3 that is ozone supersensitive and a resistant cultivar, which were exposed to HNO3 and O3 alone (not combined). Methodology. Plants and lichens were exposed in fumigation experiments to HNO3 and O3, in constantly stirred tank reactors and the resulting structural, physiological and biochemical changes were analyzed. Results. Lichens. Exposure of Ramalinamenziesiito HNO3 resulted in cell membrane damage that was evident by 14 days and continues to worsen by 28 days. Chlorophyll, photosynthesis and respiration all declined significantly in HNO3 treatments, with the toxic effects increasing with dosage. In contrast, O3 fumigations of R. menziesii showed no significant negative effects with no differences in the above response variables between high, moderate and low levels of fumigations. There was a gradual decrease in catalase activity with increased levels of HNO3. The activity of glutathione reductase dropped to 20% in thalli exposed to low HNO3 but increased with its increase. Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity increase by 20% with low levels of the pollutants but decreased with its increase. Tobacco. After 3 weeks of exposure of the sensitive tobacco cultivar to ozone there were visible symptoms of toxicity, but no danmage was evident in the tolerant cultivar. Neither cultivar showed any visible symptoms after exposure to HNO3.In tobacco fumigated with O3, there was a significant decrease in maximum photosynthetic CO2 assimilation and stomatal conductance at high levels of the pollutant, while changes in mesophyll conductance were not significant. However, under HNO3 fumigation there was a significant increase in mesophyll conductance at low and high HNO3 levels while changes in maximum photosynthetic CO2 assimilation and stomatal conductance were not significant. We could not detect any activity of the antioxidant enzymes in the fumigated tobacco leaves. This is in spite of the fact that we were able to assay the enzymes in tobacco leaves grown in Israel. Conclusions. This project generated novel data, and potentially applicable to agriculture, on the differential response of lichens and tobacco to HNO3 and O3 pollutants. However, due to experimental problems and time limitation discussed in the body of the report, our data do not justify yet application for a full, 4-year grant. We hope that in the future we shall conduct more experiments related to our objectives, which will serve as a basis for a larger scale project to explore the possibility of using lichens and/or plants for biomonitoring of ozone and nitric acid air pollution.
