The question of therapy for the above suffering of the female genital area has long been occupied by gynecologists, but since the publication of the new operational manual, almost simultaneously proposed by both Dhrssen and Mackenrodt (1892), it received a new impetus and became the subject of widespread discussion and controversy. unfortunately, only not always objective. The debate in the Berlin Gynecological Society and the discussion of the issue of interest to us at the congresses in Geneva and Frankfurt am Main (1896) also had the same imprint in the corresponding publications in the gynecological press. But not only the therapy of the said suffering, and its very essence, was subjected to a lively exchange of views, at which opinions were expressed sharply contradicting each other.

As several generations of politicians successively acted as leaders of the Romanian National Party (PNR) in Transylvania, particularly the tribunists (1884-1892) and the new activists or “steel-hardened young men” (1903-1914), the economic, cultural, and political life of Romanians in Transylvania became more similar to that of Romanians in the Kingdom of Romania. From an economic perspective, both theorists in Transylvania and Romania were fostering the idea of a liberal “Ourselves alone” doctrine after 1900. Economic policies were established based on the resolutions adopted following the proceedings of the Economic Congresses in Iași, between 1882 and 1884. Fundamental assumptions were derived from banking and financial arguments based on the numerous and meaningful business relationships established between the National Bank of Romania and the Solidaritatea Banking Union in Sibiu, comprising almost all the Romanian banks in Transylvania.

Introduction. The relevance of the study is due to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the sanitary and epidemiological service of Russia and the 130th anniversary of the establishment of the hygienic society by F.F. Erisman. The purpose of the study is to give a historical analysis of the activities of the All-Russian Society of Hygienists and Sanitary Doctors. Materials and methods. Based on the principle of historicism, an expert and analytical study of the activities of the professional community of hygienists and sanitary doctors in 1892-2022 was carried out. The analysis used materials on the activities of prof. F.F. Erisman and the Moscow Hygienic Society under him, as well as the All-Union and All-Russian Congresses of Hygienists and Sanitary Doctors. Results. The main stages of the creation and development of the All-Russian Society of Hygienists, Toxicologists and Sanitary Doctors, the training of personnel for the sanitary service of the country, which celebrates 100 years since its foundation, are presented. The role of F.F. Erisman in the activities of the Moscow Hygienic Society and his students and followers in the work of the All-Union and All-Russian Society of Hygienists and Sanitary Doctors is traced. Limitations. The study is limited to studying the role of the All-Russian Society of Hygienists in ensuring sanitary and epidemiological well-being in the historical interval of 1892-2022. Conclusion. The congresses of the society of hygienists and sanitary doctors summarized, analyzed the results achieved, discussed scientific problems and ways to solve them, mobilized their members to solve them. The positive activity of the society of hygienists and sanitary doctors is due to the active work of its members in ensuring the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population of the Russian Federation.

The social problem incites the Belgian catholics to study scientifically the human collectivity. As early as the nineteen-eighties learned societies are ouded, seminars, congresses, lectures are organized, a review is launched. At the Catholic University of Louvain the School of Political and Social Sciences is inaugurated in 1892. The sociological approach of the problems becomes wide-spread.All this movement is prepared by the work of a pioneer : Edouard Ducpétiaux (1804-1868) . He opens the way by his numerous publications and realizations in as various fields as the social inquiries, statistics, sociography, social economics, political science, criminology... The article analyses his methodology and shows place of E. Ducpétiaux among the main intellectual currents of the past century.

Abstract: Beginning in 1891, the Sioux Catholic congresses gathered Indigenous converts from scattered Plains Sioux reservations in the wake of the Wounded Knee Massacre. In Converting the Rosebud (2018), Harvey Markowitz posits that these congresses inadvertently sustained the Lakota tradition of extended kinship, known as the tiospaye , through an "intriguing subversion" of the Catholic missionaries' aggressive program of assimilation and individualization. This article tests Markowitz's claim, and argues that the 1893 congress marked a "subversion of subversion," a critical turning point that shifted Catholic missionary political ambitions toward a Lakota renegotiation of American colonialism. It nuances prior scholarship on this topic through a reexamination of overlooked and untranslated archival sources. A reconsideration of these sources' multilayered context raises further questions for historical assessment of missionary activity in the American West and Catholic theologies of evangelization today.

The last congress of the Holy Alliance was held 200 years ago. The era of congresses has played an important role in the history of Europe. During this period, the foundations of the Vienna system of international relations were laid, formulated at the Congress of 1814—1815. The concert of European powers that developed at that time — Russia, Austria, France, Great Britain, Prussia — determined world politics. The revolutions of 1820—1821 in European countries became a serious challenge to the Vienna system. At the congresses of the Holy Alliance, measures were developed to combat the revolutionary and national liberation movement. Alexander I and Metternich were among the leading actors in international politics of that time. The article pays special attention to their relationship.

In 1893, Chicago hosted the Columbian Exposition. This event showcased America’s social, cultural, and scientific advances and its growing cultural parity with Western Europe. This was the first major exposition in which women played a prominent role. Integral to the fair was a series of Congresses that provided an international platform for discussion of social issues. The Congress on Hospitals, Dispensaries, and Nursing, a section of the International Congress of Charities, Correction, and Philanthropy, particularly focused on health care issues. Nursing leaders from Europe and North America participated. Although Florence Nightingale provided a major paper that was read at the Congress, she was unable to attend the event. The intent of this article is to examine the issues and themes debated at the 1893 Congress and identify how the influence of Nightingale effected these discussions and the development of Western nursing for the next half-century.

Current research is a historic and pedagogical study. It uncovers the problem of aesthetic education in the context of such a meaningful phenomenon of the education of the late 19th century and the early 20th century as pedagogical congresses. The study has proved that the issues of the aesthetic education were considered during almost every pedagogical congress from 1862 till 1919. This type of education was recognized as the necessary part of comprehensive and harmonious development of the child’s personality. Under different political conditions aesthetic education was discussed during the pedagogical congresses either as a separate issue or as an element of other types of education: labor, ethical, national and even physical ones. The main methods and means of the aesthetic education considered by the participants of the pedagogical congresses were the following ones: familiarizing with the works of the prominent foreign and national authors, excursions, getting to know the native land, national traditions, creative labor, different forms of recreation and entertainment, art and musical events, taking care of your appearance. For supporting pedagogical councils, the delegates of the congresses suggested to create aesthetic committees and professional councils. To cut the long story short, the participants of the pedagogical congresses were very attentive to the issues of the aesthetic education and considered it as one of the necessary elements of harmonious development of the personality What remained uncovered was the degree of implementation of the solutions and recommendations of the participants of the pedagogical congresses in the educational process of the schools, namely, what ideas were introduced and what left just on the paper.

Os Congressos Penitenciários do século XIX depararam-se com o problema da proteção à infância e juventude marginalizada. Temos como objetivos conhecer o impacto desses Congressos em Portugal; compreender a circulação e apropriação dessas ideias no contexto português - agentes ações e receção. O estudo situa-se entre 1872, ano da realização do I Congresso Penitenciário Internacional, pioneiro na atenção à problemática social da infância, e 1926, final da I República Portuguesa, momento de mudança de políticas sociais. Como fontes, recorremos a relatórios e obras produzidas por participantes nesses congressos, à Lei de Proteção à Infância, Portugal 1911, e suas alterações. Concluiremos com uma síntese das ideias divulgadas em Portugal e seus ecos nos normativos jurídicos até 1925.

A tese que se propõe é a de que a oratória nesse Congresso ensejou a consolidação de juízos depreciativos da retórica parlamentar oferecidos pela crítica e pela auto-crítica, que destacavam seu caráter espetacular. Busca-se, de início, compreender quais interesses e poderes contribuíram para a formação do Congresso. Investiga-se se os oradores estavam seguindo uma orientação retórica de origem acadêmica. Procura-se responder pelo status social da disciplina e do saber retóricos. Tomam-se as avaliações do jornalismo político sobre as atividades retóricas do Congresso, compreendendo historicamente a função da imprensa. Analisa-se três discursos no Congresso Constituinte tendo por principal foco a percepção dos argumentos e dos estilos retóricos. E, finalmente, recupera-se as autorreflexões sobre o discurso parlamentar ao longo daquele encontro. Dentre os efeitos dos discursos, destacaram-se juízos depreciativos acerca da retórica e de seu aspecto espetacular, que tem suas origens vinculadas à tradição crítica do teatro realista da década de 1860. Surgiu, ainda, um leque variado de avaliações, percepções e sentidos sobre a retórica parlamentar: o conto Evolução de Machado de Assis sugeriu a emergência de um modelo de discurso vinculado à classe de engenheiros; a análise dos três discursos parlamentares confrontou posições acerca de temas diversos, os contextos humanos de elocução desses discursos e os seus efeitos, procurando refletir acerca dos seus estilos; as autorreflexões dos parlamentares sobre a oratória parlamentar destacaram os efeitos de a oratória parlamentar clarificar posições e legitimar as decisões políticas.

John Hancock was a Texas Unionist. After the Civil War, he became an opponent of the Radical Republicans. He was elected to Congress in 1871 and had some success working on issues important to Texas. As the state was redeemed from Radical Republican rule, Hancock was increasingly attacked for his Unionism. This led to a tough fight for renomination in 1874, and losses in races for the U.S. Senate and renomination in 1876. He was an unsuccessful congressional candidate in 1878, but was elected again in 1882. By then his political influence had waned and he did not seek renomination in 1884. Hancock had the potential to be a major political leader, but lingering resentment to his Unionism hampered his political career.

En el marco de la crisis en la que se encuentra España hacia fines del siglo XIX, y de los procesos de conformación y consolidación de los Estados nacionales en América Latina, tiene lugar en Madrid en el año 1892 un acontecimiento político-lingüístico singular: el Congreso Literario Hispanoamericano, convocado para celebrar el IV Centenario del Descubrimiento de América. El presente trabajo se propone analizar las orientaciones político-lingüísticas que recorren el encuentro. Para ello, hemos compuesto un corpus conformado por el programa de temas y una selección de las memorias expuestas. A nuestro entender, los discursos del Congreso se inscriben en una matriz de orientación hispanista que genera un efecto de homogeneidad, de unidad discursiva. Sin embargo, en el interior de esta matriz se delimitan tensiones, posicionamientos, que se orientan a un polo de tendencia marcadamente hispanista o, por el contrario, más americanista. In the context of the crisis in which Spain is involved towards the end of the 19th century and the processes of conformation and consolidation of the national States in Latin America, takes place in Madrid in 1892 a political-linguistic singular event: the Literary Spanish-American Congress, organized in order to celebrate the 4th Centenary of the Discovery of America. The present work proposes to analyze the political and linguistic orientations which go through the meeting. In that sense, we have shaped a corpus composed by the programme of topics and a selection of the exposed memories. To our mind, the discourses of the Congress are part of a matrix with hispanist orientation which generates an effect of homogeneity, of discursive unity. Nevertheless, inside this matrix there are delimited tensions, positionings, which are orientated to a pole of pronounced hispanist tendency or, on the contrary, more americanist.

Esta tese procura compreender o processo que culminou com a conquista do voto feminino no Brasil em 24 de fevereiro de 1932. O objetivo é desvelar, analisar e compreender as articulações e os principais personagens que fizeram parte dessa conquista, tendo como limites temporais os anos de 1850 e 1932. A narrativa se centra em dois grupos principais. O primeiro grupo é representado pelos parlamentares brasileiros e as tentativas de inserção da mulher no pleito eleitoral, via legais, durante todo o período da Primeira República. O segundo grupo é representado pelas figuras de Leolinda de Figueiredo Daltro à frente do Partido Republicano Feminino e de Bertha Lutz, líder da Federação Brasileira pelo Progresso Feminino, ambas responsáveis pela articulação do movimento organizado feminino e sufragista no Brasil. A vertente a que esse trabalho se vincula é a dos estudos de gênero e da história política, no sentido que trata da luta em prol do sufrágio feminino procurando dar ênfase tanto aos atores convencionais do jogo político como para as mulheres que se organizaram para reivindicar seus direitos. Através da análise de um conjunto heterogêneo de fontes, tais como: Anais do Congresso Nacional, correspondências, matérias de jornais e revistas, materiais bibliográficos diversos e pesquisas acadêmicas, procura-se também acentuar que mais do que uma concessão do governo de Getúlio Vargas, o sufrágio feminino foi o resultado de uma longa luta empreendida por homens e mulheres em prol da igualdade eleitoral. This thesis seeks to understand the process leading to the conquest of women’s suffrage in Brazil on February 24th, 1932. The objective is to uncover, analyze and comprehend the articulations and main characters that were part of these achievements, setting the years 1850 to 1932 as the timeframe for this investigation. The narrative is centered on two main groups. The first group is represented by Brazilian congressmen and the successive attempts to legally insert women in the electoral process during the entire period of the First Republic. The second group is represented by the figures of Leolinda de Figueiredo Daltro, heading the Women’s Republican Party and Bertha Luz, leader of the Brazilian Federation for Women’s Progress, both responsible for the articulation of the organized feminist and suffragist movement in Brazil. This work is best understood as a piece on gender studies and political history, as it deals with the struggle for women’s suffrage, aiming to focus on the conventional actors in the political game as well as the women who organized to claim their rights. Through an analysis of a heterogeneous set of sources, such as the Annals of the Parliament, correspondence exchange, newspaper and magazine articles, and academic research this work seeks to stress that women’s suffrage in Brazil was the result of a long struggle by women and men for electoral equality, rather than a concession of Getulio Vargas’ government.

Orientador: Marcos Sorrilha Pinheiro Banca: Márcia Regina Capelari Naxara Banca: Adriano Luiz Duarte Resumo: Este trabalho enseja estudar duas modalidades do "fazer-se", ou, caso se prefira, da "formação" do intelectual brasileiro, a partir de uma análise das autoconcepções dos sujeitos históricos que as aborda como uma hibridização - ou seja, a fusão de elementos alienígenas com outros, internos à realidade dos atores - marcada por expedientes de convencimento (retóricos) engendrados pelos agentes para legitimar as suas próprias noções de intelectual. Na primeira modalidade, a ser estudada a partir dos romances e da trajetória de Rachel de Queiroz, enseja-se acenar ao universo dos "mediadores e produtores" dotados de visibilidade nacional e às formas retóricas propriamente literárias do Romance de 30. Na segunda, se enfoca as vivências literárias de um grupo de escritores cearenses de pouco vulto nacional, o coletivo CLÃ. Estes letrados de pouca sorte realizaram no ano de 1946 um congresso de escritores cuja pauta principal se resume nos problemas do "intelectual/escritor de província". This research examines the central question of representation in the California State Legislature and the United States House of Representatives. This thesis examines the proper size for both legislative bodies in comparison to their current sizes. Considering this analysis, this thesis proposes that the California State Legislature be doubled in size, and that the United States House of Representatives be increased in size in accordance with the Wyoming Rule. This thesis examines the advantages and drawbacks of a larger legislature in both settings. Increasing the size of the California State Legislature would lower campaign costs, improve representation for communities of interest, and reduce the effectiveness of partisan gerrymandering. Increasing the size of the U.S. House of Representatives would reduce malapportionment among states, make the Electoral College more equitable, and increase political diversity among the states.

Despite its growing popularity, it has faced criticism because of ambiguity and contradictions in dynamic capabilities literature. There has been increasing calls to address the fragmentation in the literature and provide empirically collaborated insights if it is to fulfil its potential as a distinct approach to strategic management. The microfoundations research agenda remains an emerging theme in the dynamic capabilities literature and since the overarching emphasis of a microfoundational approach is in the explanatory primacy of the micro-level especially in its relation to macro-level entities, it covers a wide array of subjects at several levels. One of the main criticisms of the microfoundations approach is a lack of multi-level analysis and there has been calls for multi-level theory development to connect levels within particular contexts since dynamic capabilities are path dependent and context-specific. This thesis explores the multi-level nature of dynamic capabilities in the Information Technology Security context and empirically investigates the impact of microfoundations of dynamic capabilities on firm capability renewal and reconfiguration. It overcomes the challenge associated with fragmentation in dynamic capabilities by presenting a conceptual model for the multi-level nature of dynamic capabilities. By explicating where dynamic capabilities reside, we can more purposely impact on them to advance our scholarly understanding and proffer practical managerial interventions to directly enhance specific abilities of sensing, seizing and reconfiguring to achieve superior outcomes. The research employed the Gioia qualitative case study research methodology and research methods used were 35 semi-structured interviews and observations. The research findings suggest that firms renew and reconfigure their capabilities to align with the changing industry and industry standards, and client needs. Firms also renew and reconfigure capabilities and capability framework due to internal strategic organisational learning and to align with firm’s specific business strategies. Capability renewal and reconfiguration is vital to achieve technical and evolutionary fitness. In addition, findings inform that dynamic capabilities in the form of ability to sense, seize and reconfigure exhibit at macro, meso and micro levels. Actor’s external engagement with significant institutions enables superior sensing ability. Accumulated experience is exploited to gain credibility with clients to win business, and demystifying firm processes and clarity of language in firm artefacts achieve superior knowledge articulation and codification processes by actors. Structuring of simple routines and capabilities enable ease of internal knowledge transfer but susceptibility to intellectual property theft by outsiders whereas complex routines and capabilities create challenges for knowledge transfer but are harder for competitors to discern and copy. Drawing on the research findings, the thesis presents a conceptual model for the multi-level microfoundations of dynamic capabilities in knowledge-intensive domains with relevance for theory and practice.

Since Woodrow Wilson's (1885) analysis of Congress, researchers assumed that members of Congress look to one another for information, cues, and advice on unfamiliar policy areas. The amount of time and effort that each legislator and their staffers would have to put in to make all of these voting decisions would be insurmountable. Fellow legislators are a resource to turn to for guidance or assistance. Legislators are able to influence their colleagues above and beyond each of their individual preferences. The members of Congress that are most influential will not necessarily be the same for every bill. The significant legislators may be one's co-partisans and the party leadership or they may be a group of legislators with whom they share a common interest. Spatial analysis allows researchers to look more explicitly at the relationships between legislators and their colleagues. I use spatial probit and a spatial duration model to study these issues by examining the factors that influence voting decisions and the timing of position announcements. I look at a variety of different policy areas, including foreign policy, education, and agriculture, over an extensive time period (1933-2014) to test which relationships are most influential on their decisions. I study the interdependence between three different relationships, same party, state delegation, and ideological similarity, and hypothesize that these ties will lead legislators to behave more similarly. The use of the spatial analysis provides an opportunity to test these relationships and see if even after controlling for other influences there is dependence between legislators. In my research, I find that legislators are interdependent regardless of their individual characteristics. When I analyze voting behavior, legislators' behave similarly from one another across all three relationships above and beyond what we would expect given their personal preferences. These positive findings do not hold when I study the timing of position announcements where legislators behave dissimilarly from one another when interdependence exists. The study, overall, suggests that legislative ties are especially important in explaining voting behavior and that it is critical to account for these relationships.

AbstractThis study investigates how the emergence of a transnational civil society in the decades before the outbreak of the First World War was supported by, and entangled with, practices of travel, translation, and mediation in various forms of (mass) media. It takes one activist from the transnational women’s movements of the West as a case study to explore how political activists employed a variety of transnational strategies to foment activism at home and abroad. The introductory chapter takes the example of one activist’s speech at the feminist congress in Paris in 1896—one of the first larger congresses of its kind—and the media reaction to this appearance to sketch the position of a mediator in a transnational civil space. Following on from this, it lays out the contexts, concepts, and the research questions of this book and presents its main protagonist, Käthe Schirmacher (1865–1930). In particular, the chapter discusses theoretical frameworks of translation, feminism, activism, and trust; contextualises travel in a transnational history of women’s movements of the West; and reflects on the advantages and limitations of a case study approach.

AbstractUsing the example of Käthe Schirmacher’s travel to the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893, this chapter explores the transatlantic networks and the internationalisation strategies of women’s movements in the late nineteenth century. It discusses the role of multilingual mediators in the building of transnational networks of activism and the opportunities this role offered to young, well-educated women like Schirmacher who were looking for both an income and a political mission. The chapter also analyses the concept of the ‘new woman’ Schirmacher propagated in her speech at the congress and argues that in so doing she contributed to shaping a new persona that opened up professional identities for women and thus chances to earn an independent income.

Evolution of seismic design provisions in various Indian Standards over the last 50 years have been reviewed in this paper. Seismic provisions of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) code (IS 1893), Indian Road Congress (IRC) standard (IRC:6 &amp; IRC:SP:114) and Indian Railway standards (IRS code) are compared. Abstract In Part 1 of this paper, models were developed to describe the formation mechanisms and dynamic behavior of cutting fluid mist. This part of the paper focuses on experimentally investigating mist formation during the turning process, and then simulating the dynamic behavior of the mist droplets, including the distribution and the mass concentration. Simulation results are compared to experimental measurements to validate the theoretical models presented in Part 1. It is seen that the model predictions adequately characterize the observed experimental behavior.

Introdução: Hemangioma é um tumor vascular benigno de ocorrência rara em animais domésticos, sendo sua apresentação cutânea mais relatada que a visceral. Embora não apresentem características de malignidade, seu potencial de compressão de vasos e órgãos, assim como de ruptura, representam ameaças à higidez do paciente. A esplenectomia total, procedimento indicado em casos de neoplasias esplênicas, pode deixar o animal suscetível à infecções, porém o prognóstico em neoplasias benignas é bom. Objetivos: Devido às escassas descrições deste tumor em animais e principalmente jovens, objetivou-se relatar um caso de hemangioma esplênico primário em um felino, de 8 meses, diagnosticada na Serra Gaúcha. Material e métodos: Foi encaminhada para ovariohisterectomia eletiva, em uma clínica veterinária particular de Carlos Barbosa/RS, uma gata, sem raça definida e com 8 meses de idade. A paciente era negativa para retrovírus, com protocolo vacinal atualizado, sem alterações clínicas e hemograma pré-cirúrgico dentro dos padrões de referência. Resultados: O procedimento foi realizado de acordo com a literatura, sendo que logo após a incisão da cavidade abdominal, notou-se a presença de um nódulo de aproximadamente 3 cm de diâmetro na porção cranial do baço. Assim, optou-se pela esplenectomia total e logo após, realizada a ovariohisterectomia. O baço foi acondicionado em formol a 10% e encaminhado para análise histopatológica. Não houve intercorrências durante a cirurgia, sendo que paciente recebeu alta hospitalar após 12h da cirurgia, com prescrição domiciliar de amoxicilina com clavulanato de potássio (15 mg/kg/VO/q.12h) durante 5 dias e meloxicam (0,1 mg/kg/VO/q. 24h) por 3 dias e retornou após 7 dias para revisão, sem apresentar alterações clínicas. O laudo histopatológico revelou uma hiperplasia de polpa vermelha e linfóide discreta, sugerindo hemangioma esplênico subcapsular. Foi recomendada revisões periódicas para o monitoramento da paciente. Conclusão: Este relato destaca a importância da realização de exames complementares na medicina veterinária, além de um exame clínico pré-cirúrgico detalhado, mesmo em casos de procedimentos eletivos, visto que, com a realização de um exame de ultrassonografia abdominal, poderia ter sido identificada a presença da tumoração anteriormente ao procedimento cirúrgico, permitindo o preparo adequado da equipe.
