Este estudo analisa o documentário Na Misak (2018), do diretor indígena Luis Tróchez Tunubalá, do Cauca colombiano. Situando-o como filme-prismático, no marco do cinema indígena e do colonialismo reiterativo em Abya Yala, seu objetivo é investigar a tessitura fílmica a partir da perspectiva indígena sobre a construção da indianidade no contexto urbano contemporâneo. Utilizou-se o método comparado a partir de cotejos baseados na série histórica, ponto-contraponto, constelações e abordagem prismática. Entre os estudos antropológicos, históricos e de cinema, observou-se o cruzamento da escritura cinematográfica contracolonial, ensaística e autorreflexiva com dimensões da cosmologia Misak, a partir do qual o pensamento crítico se condensa no sistema fílmico, na experiência histórica e na performance corporal, artefatos que confrontam o(s) colonialismo(s) com outra história do contato.

La presente investigación se desarrolla en el marco del proyecto CAI+D (en curso) «Tradiciones selectivas: trazo(a)s presentes y emergentes de la migración italiana y francófona de la ciudad de Santa Fe» (FHUC-UNL) y tiene por objeto un primer acercamiento a la figura del escritor santafesino Edgardo Pesante como «intelectual», atendiendo a la complejidad que dicho concepto condensa. Para ello se trabajará sobre tres aristas: sus facetas como escritor, gestor de políticas de promoción cultural (específicamente literarias) y crítico. Esta aproximación, si bien se aclara primitiva, resulta de interés para pensar no sólo los lindes o puntos de contacto con otros agentes culturales de la provincia de Santa Fe, sino también la importancia que su figura de intelectual constituye para la región (cuestión que ya vislumbramos en estudios previos con el análisis de caso de Domingo Buonocore).

Introdução: A Cardiopatia Congênita (CC) é uma doença crônica, caracterizada por anormalidades estruturais e funcionais no sistema cardiocirculatório, podendo ocorrer por fatores genéticos, mutações, alterações cromossômicas ou mesmo ter uma origem multifatorial. Estudos discutem sobre a possibilidade da CC criar um ambiente estressor para a criança e sua família, sobretudo para sua mãe, por ser o elemento da família que, geralmente, assume o acompanhamento e a execução dos cuidados com a criança. Objetivo: Identificar e descrever a percepção e sentimentos maternos acerca da doença do filho, suas dificuldades, o impacto da doença na qualidade de vida da família e suas angústias diante do futuro. Método: Pesquisa qualitativa, transversal, descritiva, com coleta de dados feita entre os meses de Dezembro de 2022 e Fevereiro de 2023, por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas por ligação telefônica, gravada, com 13 mães de crianças com CC. O processo de análise foi orientado pela análise de conteúdo do tipo temática. Resultado: O estresse está presente na fala da maior parte das mães. Essas falas trazem à cena o fato de que este se condensa especialmente nos períodos iniciais do processo: descoberta da doença do filho, notícia da(s) cirurgia(s), responsabilidade pelos cuidados que se prolongam, isolamento materno. Conclusão: O medo da morte, do futuro e do desenvolvimento da criança são fantasmas que também circulam nas manifestações maternas e expressam a dificuldade em antecipar aos seus filhos uma subjetividade, condição de base para o desenvolvimento geral adequado.

This essay sheds light on Brazilian artist Hudinilson Jr.’s Cadernos de referências (c. 1981-2013), a series of dense and layered scrapbooks. Through an analysis of layouts and media, the investigation highlights the extensive design and cultural implications that the practice triggers. The focus lies primarily on formal recurrences and narrative strategies identified on double page spreads, revealing how they condense the artist’s queer poetics. The Cadernos emerge as an everyday practice of exploration of the human body, a space for self-design and cultural resistance, and a tool for questioning the relationship between the exposed body, self-image, and mass media.

O presente artigo investiga as vozes feministas em Possessão, de A. S. Byatt. A partir do debate proposto por Virginia Woolf sobre “O Anjo do Lar” e “Judith Shakespeare”, e das contribuições de Hutcheon (1991) e Cixous (2022), nosso objetivo é evidenciar, na obra, os contrastes entre a condição angelical da mulher vitoriana, representada por algumas personagens, em contraposição ao caráter subversivo de outras figuras femininas, bem como as relações entre gênero e poder falogocêntrico que se observa na escrita e recepção dos poetas Ash e LaMotte. Byatt, ao expor essas diferenças em sua metaficção, parece questionar as estruturas de poder patriarcal que valoriza a mulher submissa e condena a mulher emancipada.

Chemical composition and physical properties are measured and inspected for China railway grade B cast steel wheel. The wheel shows slight higher for chemical elements C and Cr, much higher for Al and Mo, and significant lower for P and S comparing to the AAR code. Gross pearlites plus net-like continuum ferrites appear in wheel hub; ferrites exhibit also net-likely but dis-continuously in web with a shot peening effect; and in rim, dis-continuous ferrites with few of net-like signs distribute randomly due to a quenching and tempering effect. Bigger hardness values appear in rim; and the values in web and hub appear a decrease in sequence. Major flaw affecting material condense is shrinkage porosities. Flawed content is closely between hub and web. More condense appears in rim. Material inclusions are non-metallic compounds of MnS and Al2O3. They appear sphere-like shapes having around 8 μm diameters.

O SiO2-SO3H ? um catalisador heterog?neo, sintetizado a partir de areia de constru??o e carbonato de s?dio, o qual, vem se mostrando eficaz nas s?nteses org?nicas. No presente trabalho, esse catalisador foi usado na s?ntese de ?steres benz?licos e fen?licos, realizada em apenas uma ?nica etapa, com rendimentos entre 80 e 95%. E devido a esse alto rendimento, foi tamb?m realizado rea??es de cetaliza??es, utilizando glicerol, 2,2-dimetil-1,3-propandiol e 1,1,1-hidroximetil-propanol e diversas cetonas. As rea??es com o glicerol apresentaram rendimentos baixos, por ser uma esp?cie muito polar e interagir com os poros da s?lica, evitando a colis?o com as mol?culas de cetonas. Diante desses resultados, foi poss?vel produzir um catalisador heterog?neo que al?m de diminuir o impacto ambiental, carrega caracter?sticas ben?ficas e eficientes para s?ntese org?nica, poss?vel se tonar eficaz para futuras rotas sint?ticas.

The SiO2 - SO3H is a heterogeneous catalyst synthesized from building sand and sodium carbonate. It has proven to be effective for organic syntheses. In study the catalyst was used in the synthesis of benzyl esters and phenolics and the yields between 80 and 95%. And the high yield was also performed cetaliza??es reactions using glycerol, 2,2- dimethyl- 1,3- propandiol and 1,1,1 -hydroxymethyl- propanol and various ketones. The reactions with glycerol had low yield justified very polar species and interact with the pores of silica, avoiding collision with ketone molecules. These results it was possible to produce a heterogeneous catalyst in addition to reducing environmental impact, carries beneficial and efficient features for organic synthesis. It can be effective tonar for future synthetic routes.

Des méthodes de modulation et de détection de la lumière originales ont été étudiées afin d'améliorer la performance des systèmes de transmission optique longue distance. Des formats de modulation multiplexés en polarisation, utilisant plusieurs niveaux de phase ont été étudiés en particulier. La détection cohérente associée à un traitement numérique du signal a également été choisie au niveau de la réception afin d'optimiser la performance du système. Cela permet notamment de compenser de façon très efficace les distorsions linéaires introduites par la propagation dans le fibre optique, telles que la dispersion chromatique et la dispersion modales de polarisation. Après propagation sur grande distance, le rapport signal à bruit devient une limitation importante. L'autre limitation provient des interactions non linéaire entre la lumière et la fibre optique qui limitent la puissance maximale que l'on peut injecter dans la fibre optique.La première transmission multiplexée en longueur d'onde sur grandes distances (>1000km) utilisant la détection cohérente a notamment été démontrée.Afin de minimiser l'impact de ces effets non linéaires, différentes stratégies ont été proposées et investiguées. L'impact du multiplexage de polarisation a notamment été quantifié dans des configuration où la dispersion chromatique de la fibre est compensée régulièrement dans la liaison et dans le cas où elle n'est compensée qu'en fin de liaison de façon numérique.La proposition d'utiliser un format de modulation à 2 niveaux de phase ainsi que les algorithmes permettant de le détecter ont été fait. Le gain de performance obtenu par rapport à la solution conventionnelle à 4 niveaux de phase a été montré.Au débit de 100Gb/s, la démonstration de la première transmission sur des distances transocéanique a également été faite.Ces travaux de recherche ont été notamment utilisés pour définir puis développer des produits Alcatel-Lucent qui sont maintenant commercialisés, à 40Gb/s en utilisant un format de modulation multiplexé en polarisation à deux niveaux de phase, et à 100Gb/s en utilisant un format multiplexé en polarisation à quatre niveaux de phase.

L'étude de la structure en domaines en fonction du temps et de la température sur les cristaux de t. G. S. Pur ou dope nous a permis de montrer que la structure est plus stable dans le cas des cristaux dopes. Sous l'action d'un champ électrique e continu applique aux cristaux de l-a. T. G. S. Nous avons montre la relation existant entre le temps d'inversion t et le champ d'activation : 1/t=1/t# e#-##/#e 1 ce temps t est plus grand dans le cas d'un mono domaine positif. A partir de ces résultats, nous avons trouvé que le champ d'activation diminue quand l'épaisseur du cristal augmente et il est plus élevé pour des cristaux irradies aux rayons x. Cette étude nous a conduit à élaborer des procédés de création de structure en domaines désirées en particulier des structures bi domaines qui sont restées stables plusieurs jours et qui peuvent être utiles à d'autres fins. L'étude au m. E. B. Des cristaux de t. G. S. Irradies aux rayons x nous a montré que la nucléation s'effectue parallèlement à la direction 001; l'étude en température de ces cristaux (en utilisant les c. L. N. ) nous a montré que la structure en domaines est affectée, par un traitement thermique mais que ces cristaux retrouvent après un certain temps leur structure initiale. Nous avons également étudié les domaines de nano#2 en fonction du temps et du champ électrique applique. L'étude en fonction du temps a permis de vérifier que les domaines de nano#2 sont des bandes orientées parallèlement à l'axe c. Lors de l'application d'un champ électrique continu il y a apparition de parois de domaines parallèles aux plans (101) et (101). Le temps d'inversion t de la polarisation spontanée et le camp électrique appliqué e vérifient l'équation 1. Cette étude nous a permis de démontrer que le champ d'activation de ce cristal est relativement grand comparativement a ceux tu t. G. S pur ou dope et que leurs valeurs augmentent dans la partie i de la courbe et décroissent dans la partie ii lorsque l'épaisseur de l'échantillon diminue. En utilisant la méthode de Kelvin-Zisman, la différence des travaux de sortie entre les extrémités des domaines antiparallèles a été mesurée. On a mesure pour les cristaux de t. G. S. , une différence allant jusqu'a 5 ev, et 1,1 ev pour les cristaux de g. A. S. H. Ces mesures ont été effectuées sur des cristaux fraichement clives à l'air de gaz inerte; le travail de sortie de l'extrémité positive du domaine est supérieur a celui de domaine négatif et leur différence va en diminuant en fonction du temps.

This dissertation investigates the interplay between, and the possible coexistence of, magnetic and superconducting order in metals. We start with studying the electromagnetic properties of s-wave superconductors near a ferromagnetic instability. By using a generalized Ginzburg-Landau theory and scaling arguments, we show that competition between magnetic order and superconducting order can change the scaling of observables. For instance, the exponent for the temperature dependence of the critical current can deviate from the Ginzburg-Landau value of 3/2. These results may be relevant to understanding the observed behavior of MgCNi 3 . We then study the nature of the superconductor-to-normal-metal transition in p-wave superconductors. Although the phase transition is continuous at a mean- field level, a more careful renormalization-group analysis in conjunction with large-n expansion techniques strongly suggest that the transition is first order. This conclusion is the same as for s-wave superconductors, where these techniques also predict a first-order transition. In p-wave superconductors, topological excitations known as skyrmions are known to exist in addition to the more common vortices. In the third part of this dissertation, we study the properties of skyrmion lattices in an external magnetic field. We propose iv experiments to distinguish vortex lattices from skyrmion lattices by means of their melting curves and their μSR signatures.

A systematic study was performed on the structural, magnetic and optical properties of polycrystalline I$\sb2$.Mn.IV.VI$\sb4$ compounds with I = Ag or Cu, IV = Si, Ge, Sn, VI = S, Se and Te. In X-ray diffractometry, three different crystal structures were observed, two corresponding to the tetragonal stannite and orthorhombic wurtz-stannite structures reported previously, and thirdly a cubic rock salt-like structure. Magnetic susceptibility ($\chi$) measurements showed that most of the selenide phases were ferrimagnetic. Optical absorption measurements were made to determine values of optical energy gap E$\sb{\rm o}$ for a number of the single phase samples. When the values of these various parameters ($\rm a\sb{e}, T\sb{N}, \theta\sb{a}$ and E$\sb{\rm o}$) were compared for the various phases, it was found that the phases could be classified into five different sets. In each case investigated, the variation of E$\sb{\rm o}$ with temperature was found to agree well with the theoretical predictions of Alexander et al. (76A1). (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning with Refrigeration industry (HVAC-R) uses more and more extrude aluminium profiles as the main structure for all size heat exchangers. Similarly to Automotive industry HVAC-R uses minichannels as the basis of their products. It is not a new technology, it is technology proved through many years use in car industry. It is also true that current well known minichannel technology is not the last step. New designs and production lines are currently developed as well. All these new technologies have one unsolved thing together – how will be the new technologies easily computed through models. Current correlations which were used till now are obsolete, because of system miniaturization mainly. It is not easy to adapt old macro channel correlations on minichannel or microchannels where is not possible to diminish capillarity effects, different flow structures, etc. All these difficulties causes in model changes, software changes or iterative procedures upgrades. It is also evident that a lot of experimental exercises have to be done to examine heat exchanger behaviour ad characteristics. Because of precise computation of minichannel heat exchangers need or its geometry optimization is dissertation theme aimed to compare computation methodologies. PhD thesis is also aimed to check functionality of proposed computation system used simple similarity model. All proposed methods are compared to experimentally measured data and as the outcome of thesis are these data used to develop new computation basis.

We address the generalization of thermodynamic quantity q-deformed by q-algebra that describes a general algebra for bosons and fermions . The motivation for our study stems from an interest to strengthen our initial ideas, and a possible experimental application. On our journey, we met a generalization of the recently proposed formalism of the q-calculus, which is the application of a generalized sequence described by two parameters deformation positive real independent and q1 and q2, known for Fibonacci oscillators . We apply the wellknown problem of Landau diamagnetism immersed in a space D-dimensional, which still generates good discussions by its nature, and dependence with the number of dimensions D, enables us future extend its application to systems extra-dimensional, such as Modern Cosmology, Particle Physics and String Theory. We compare our results with some experimentally obtained performing major equity. We also use the formalism of the oscillators to Einstein and Debye solid, strengthening the interpretation of the q-deformation acting as a factor of disturbance or impurity in a given system, modifying the properties of the same. Our results show that the insertion of two parameters of disorder, allowed a wider range of adjustment , i.e., enabling change only the desired property, e.g., the thermal conductivity of a same element without the waste essence

Em nossa jornada, conhecemos uma generaliza??o recentemente proposta ao formalismo do q-c?lculo, que ? a aplica??o de uma seq??ncia generalizada, descrita por dois par?metros de deforma??o reais positivos e independentes q1 e q2, conhecidos por osciladores de Fibonacci. Abstract In this chapter we discuss neutron scattering from condensed helium at intermediate and high momentum transfer. The aim is to present the basic physics of high Q scattering, introduce experimental data, and relate this to the theory set out in Chapters 18 and 19. The goal of experiment at high Q is to measure single-particle properties: the momentum distribution, particularly the condensate fraction in superfluid 4He, kinetic energies, and the interaction of the struck particle with its neighbours, the final state effects. At intermediate Q these interactions also lead to interesting oscillations of S(<2,uj) with Q.In §2.5 we introduced the impulse approximation (IA) and the final state broadening function. In Chapter 18 we derived the I A, which holds exactly in helium at Q → ∞. In Chapter 19 we derived expressions for S(Q, ω) at high but finite Q and for the final state broadening function, R (Q, ω).

While 1700MW class Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) projects like US-APWR are conducted by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) now, the size of condenser tube bundle becomes the largest ever constructed by MHI to be accordance with the increased heat rejection rate from the turbine system. Where, it becomes difficult to ignore the condensate sub-cooling and heat transfer deterioration by condensate inundation. Therefore, we have been working on research about the practical application of large-sized condenser since 2008, and tube arrangement optimization is one of the important subjects. As suitable tube arrangement for a large-sized condenser, the proven streamlined shape tube bundle was proposed, which had been adopted in the fossil fuel power units. In the streamlined shape tube bundle, most steam condenses on tubes under horizontal or downward steam flow conditions. In large tube bundle, the heat transfer deterioration due to inundation apparently occurs. On the other hand, condensate is blown away by the horizontal steam flow, and the effect of inundation would be reduced. For the tube arrangement optimization, the accurate knowledge on heat transfer including the behavior of such condensate under the horizontal steam flow condition is essential. However, most research on steam condensation on tube bundle has been conducted for the downward steam flow but the research for horizontal steam flow condensation is very limited so far (1–5). In the present research, condensation experiments were conducted by using a horizontal tube bank containing 36 cooling tubes with 12 condensate supply tubes. Steam was horizontally supplied to the tube bank at velocities 15–27m/s at pressures of 8.8kPa. Cooling tubes were made of copper and have an outer diameter of 19.1mm and condensing length of 150mm. In order to clarify the effect of condensate inundation on condensation heat transfer in detail, local heat transfer coefficients and the condensate flow in the tube bank were measured. In this paper, we describe findings on the condensate behavior and heat transfer in horizontal flow obtained by the experiment.

Working from the lessons of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident, we have been developing the following various safe technologies for boiling water reactors (BWRs), a passive water-cooling system, an infinite-time air-cooling system, a hydrogen explosion prevention system, and an operation support system for reactor accidents. The objective of the study reported here was development of the passive water-cooling system. The above technologies are referred to as ‘Inherently Safe Technology’. The passive water-cooling system works without electricity for the first 10 days after an event to remove a relatively large mount of decay heat from the core. The system consists of a condenser and a steam turbine-driven pump for transferring water from a suppression pool to the reactor. Steam from the reactor pressure vessel is condensed in the condensation tubes of the condenser, and the condensate flows out into the suppression pool in the primary containment vessel (PCV). The water temperature at the condensation tube outlet is lowered to less than the saturated temperature at the partial steam pressure of the maximum PCV design pressure to prevent the PCV failure. The condenser is located at a lower level, e.g., underground, for easier access and for supplying cooling water to a condenser pool without electricity during an event. The lower level condenser pool has an advantage that it can be seismically designed. To evaluate our concept of the water-cooling system, heat transfer tests were conducted using full-scale U-shaped single tubes with three diameter sizes under a wide range of pressure and inlet steam velocity conditions. The heat transfer data were obtained at system pressures of 0.2 to 3.0 MPa (absolute) and inlet steam velocities of 5 to 56 m/s. The heat transfer data with this wide range of pressure and inlet velocity conditions include thermal hydraulics conditions for a passive containment cooling system (PCCS) and some of the data can be extrapolated to isolation condenser (IC) conditions. We also confirmed thermal hydraulics conditions to determine the practicality of our new concept.

An experimental model of Joule-Thomson micro-cooler has been fabricated on silicone wafer of 39mm×15.5mm in size. The micro-cooler uses ethylene as the refrigerant and it works in the pressure range between 2.3MPa and 0.1MPa. The micro-cooler consist of condenser, evaporator and capillary tube. Flow passage of the refrigerant was fabricated by etching process. Peltier device was used to pre-cool and condense the refrigerant. Temperature decrease by 3K was obtained at maximum flow rate of 3mg/s.

This paper investigates the performance problem of a large capacity multistage centrifugal air compressor when operated continuously for an extended period of time without overhauling. The compressor flow constitutes fifty percent of the plant production and plays a critical role in meeting the annual contract capacity and can not tolerate performance instability due to high intercooler temperatures, ambient conditions and, fouling of the internal components. During a recent harsh summer operation, the compressor was undergone to surge many times and prompted to initiate a performance evaluation study to identify the cause(s) of surge and the extent of performance deterioration. High cooling water supply temperature and ambient conditions crippled the performance of the compressor. Engineering analysis identified the excessive accumulation of condensed water in the water chamber of the second intercooler as the most logical reason of the compressor surge during the instances of high ambient conditions i.e. relative humidity and temperature greater than 80% and 35°C, respectively. During heavy load of condensed water, the blockage and insufficient size of the condensate drain caused build up of water level in the water collecting chamber which offered instantaneous hindrance to airflow to the next section and, hence, led to the compressor surge. During normal ambient conditions, the overall performance of the compressor was found satisfactory when compared with the commissioning after a long term of continuous operation without maintenance.

An experimental study of convective steam condensation inside a large, inclined, flattened-tube air-cooled condenser for power plants is presented. This is the second of a two-part study. The first part presents pressure drop and visualization results, while this study presents the experimental method along with heat transfer results. The condenser in this study is steel with brazed aluminum fins. The condenser measures 10.72m in length, with a cross section of 214 mm × 18 mm. The condenser tube was cut in half lengthwise and covered with a polycarbonate viewing window in order to provide visualization access simultaneously with the heat transfer measurements. Inlet steam mass flux ranged from 6.2–9.5 kg m−2 s−1, and condenser capacity varied from 25–31 kW. The angle of inclination was varied from horizontal to 75° downward. The experiments were performed with a uniform fin-face velocity of crossflowing air at 2.2 m/s. Condenser capacity was found to increase linearly with increasing downward inclination angle of the condenser, at a rate of 0.048% per degree of inclination below horizontal. This improvement was found to be the result of improved drainage and increased void fraction near the condenser outlet.

This study consists of a non-traditional molecular and stable isotope approach to analyze organic matter (soluble bitumen and produced oil/condensate) from the Montney Formation low-permeability reservoirs, with the purpose of identifying source(s) of hydrocarbons, accumulation history and post accumulation processes. The same approach bases on the distribution of compound classes such as aromatic carotenoids, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), bicyclic alkanes, and oxygen-polar compounds. The geochemical screening has been enhanced with performing compound specific isotope analysis (CSIA) of n-alkanes and selected aromatic hydrocarbons. A 2018 PRCI report evaluated related emissions from compressor seals, isolation valves, and blowdown valves based on direct measurements required by Subpart W of the GHG Reporting Program. This report presents the methane emissions data from 2011 - 2016 for the balance of the Subpart W emission sources, including: facility leaks (other than from compressor isolation valves and blowdown valves), pneumatic controller venting, condensate tank dump valve leakage, and blowdown emissions from stations. Transmission pipeline blowdown emission reporting was added to the EPA regulation in late 2015, and 2016 and 2017 pipeline blowdown data are presented in this report. The objective of the project is to evaluate and analyze the dataset, and compare methane emission estimates from these sources to historical data used by EPA, primarily the emission factors (EFs) from the mid-1990s EPA/Gas Research Institute (GRI) study used by EPA in its annual GHG inventory (GHGi) report. The results and related EFs and analysis of relative contribution from different sources can be used: (1) as an alternative to GHGi EFs for estimating methane emissions for Transmission and Storage (T and S) operations; (2) to document the relative contribution of different T and S methane emission sources; and (3) to identify reductions relative to historical estimates and support more efficient methane mitigation strategies. The Subpart W data for leaks and pneumatic devices are consistently lower than GHGi estimates, and blowdown emissions from compressor stations and transmission pipelines are similar in magnitude to GHGi estimates.

The ability to safely transport wet, untreated natural gases through pipelines offshore or at other inaccessible locations is an important factor in the development of new gas fields. The internal corrosion rate of steel pipelines varies in a complex way with the gas composition, specifically CO2 , O2 , and H2 S, and condensed water chemistry. Estimating the corrosion rate of steel at inaccessible locations from the analysis of the gas and water composition from an accessible location will enable a better determination of the need for corrosion inhibitors. Quantitative understanding of the corrosion rate of steel under these conditions will be key to an accurate risk assessment of pipelines from internal corrosion. Previous work examined the effects of gas composition and slow liquid flow conditions on corrosion of steel. A parametric equation was developed that essentially reflected the deleterious effects of CO2 and O2 , and the beneficial effect of H2S on corrosion (Lyle, 1997). While this study provided important information regarding the deleterious effect of oxygen in the gas phase, the effects of condensed water composition, especially scale-forming species such as calcium and magnesium, were not examined. Furthermore, a better thermodynamic and kinetic understanding of the effects of the gas and liquid phase composition was needed. The present project, while an extension of the previous project, breaks important new ground: (i) the water chemistry typically found in pipelines is included in the tests; (ii) the scale and corrosion product formation is examined using a thermodynamic speciation software; (iii) surface analysis of the corroded samples is performed using laser Raman spectroscopy in order to confirm the thermodynamic model prediction; and (iv) electrochemical tests are conducted to understand the corrosion kinetics. A discussion of the general literature on internal corrosion is presented in the next section, followed by a summary of results from previous SwRI projects in this area. The thermodynamic approach and results are presented in Chapter 2. The experimental results are presented in Chapters 3 and 4, respectively, along with a discussion of the results in terms of thermodynamic and kinetic framework. Chapter 5 summarizes the results of this project and provides recommendations for further investigations. Details of the thermodynamic calculations, electrochemical experimental results, and analyses of the corrosion products are presented in the appendices.
