Streszczenie:
During a science class in a Midwestern middle-school, a group of students gathered around a computer monitor and listened to a story from one of the students’ parents describing the use of plants in their culture. Once the video ended, the teacher asked the student to translate the story from Somali and explain what their parent said. Excitedly, they explained the various ways that herbs and spices are ground into medicinal teas. In situations like this, students find themselves in unique but infrequent engagements to science curriculum which allow the free expression of cultural and personal values. A pedagogy of reciprocity is often composed of these fleeting moments - brief, subtle transfers of knowledge from parents, to students, to teachers, and so on. Such a strategy would aim to help students rewrite their schema of what ‘knowledge’ really is, a fluid, dynamic product of people’s interactions, rather than a static unit of a formal structure gatekept by the academically credentialed.

Coming in as a freshman student to a university in a new city can be an intimidating situation. I was in this situation two years ago and felt I had no connections to the surrounding community outside of campus. This city was my new home away from home and I did not feel like a part of it. Therefore, I got involved in the local neighborhood association as the only student participant. My first night at a meeting included a question and answer session with a representative from the hospital located in the neighborhood, adjacent to the university. There was talk of a neighborhood garden partnership and I was getting the impression that the neighborhood felt betrayed regarding the construction of a sign at this garden. This moment was the beginning of an interesting journey.

"The last mile" is a key problem that needs to be solved urgently by major e-commerce companies, and also an important means to improve their competitiveness in e-commerce activities. In this paper, aiming at the problems existing in the current community intelligent logistics, from the perspective of the entire logistics system, combined with the actual distribution of logistics sites and distribution methods, we studied the scheduling problem of UAVs using different strategies when returning to the site after distribution. First, the UAV distribution time model is established, and then the model is solved with the minimum completion time of goods distribution as the goal. Finally, the feasibility of the algorithm is verified through simulation experiments, and the optimal scheduling strategy of UAV is given in combination with the actual operation, thus guiding e-commerce to build a reasonable intelligent logistics system.

Streszczenie:
Implementation research (IR) is a non-traditional methodology of research that enables the examination of application of multiple interventions within the complexities of the real-world, and the generation of solutions for emergent needs, especially in countries of low-moderate income. Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) is an evolving field of practice that lacks research traditions. Evidence guiding the practice of healthcare professionals in CBR and supporting its implementation is fragmented. A review of the literature was conducted to identify research studies pertinent to the employment of IR in CBR. This paper demonstrates that the principles of IR resonate with the principles of inclusion, equality, empowerment and partnership of CBR. It also posits that IR can serve as a research tradition to underpin and guide the conduction of research studies in CBR, and to provide the necessary evidence to support its accountability.

Academic health centers and their universities are increasingly encouraged to engage in more community-based and participatory approaches to research. Yet, traditional ethics guidelines and regulations are inadequate for addressing the dynamics of community-campus research partnerships. In this article, the authors share stories from the Community Research Collaborative (CRC), a collective of community leaders and faculty that published guidelines for community-based research (CBR). The CRC offers a case study in how a collaborative process of developing CBR guidelines can create space for partners to wrestle with the historical and present-day harms carried out in indigenous and minoritized communities in the name of science and to imagine alternative ways of working together collectively. This case study highlights the complex power dynamics inherent in community-campus partnerships and how storytelling can play a role in unearthing and addressing them. It positions the work of the CRC as incomplete and evolving while offering a foundation on which other institutions could carry out similar processes in their localities.

Streszczenie:
Developing meaningful community-based participatory relationships between researchers and the community can be challenging. The overall success of a community-based participatory relationship should be predicated on commitment and respect from empowered stakeholders. Prior to developing the technique discussed in this article, we hypothesized that the process of fostering relationships between researchers and the community was much like a social relationship: It has to develop organically and cannot be forced. To address this challenge, we developed a community-based participatory research–speed dating technique to foster relationships based on common interests, which we call CBPR-SD. This article describes the logistics of implementing CBPR-SD to foster scholarly collaborations. As part of a federally funded community-based research project, the speed dating technique was implemented for 10 researchers and 11 community leaders with a goal of developing scholarly collaborative groups who will submit applications for community-based research grants. In the end, four collaborative groups developed through CBPR-SD, three (75%) successfully submitted grant applications to fund pilot studies addressing obesity-related disparities in rural communities. Our preliminary findings suggest that CBPR-SD is a successful tool for promoting productive scholarly relationships between researchers and community leaders.

Streszczenie:
The new edition of Community-Based Participatory Research for Health by Nina Wallerstein and colleagues is an extremely valuable resource for a wide variety of stakeholders interested in collaborative work to promote health equity. This updated collection succinctly delineates the theory, history, principles, and practices of community-based participatory research (CBPR) to help the reader understand CBPR as an approach, a philosophy, and an ethic. This updated edition will serve as a helpful resource for those interested in incorporating CBPR principles and approaches into their work. The chapters are authored by leaders and innovators in CBPR who provide insights, share experiences, and describe case studies that expand our ability to understand and envision the transformative power of CBPR in practice. The book is divided thematically into seven parts plus 13 appendices. Updates to this edition align with critical dialogues about positionality, privilege, and power in a way that encourages healthy self-reflection.

Streszczenie:
Community-based research (CBR) combines service-learning with participatory or applied research and can be a powerful teaching tool in social science methods classes. Incorporating applied research projects into classroom teaching, however, places special demands on instructors. This paper presents one approach to CBR as a pedagogical technique and offers practical suggestions to those who consider adopting it. As research, pedagogy-based CBR demands all the creativity and skill of normal academic research, though the process may be faster-paced. The special skills considered here involve brokering resources among a complex network of partners that includes both students and community organizations.
