This research attempt to identify the juvenile delinquency among children prisoner in Kutoarjo ChildrenPrison and also determine the factors cause of juvenile delinquency, the reasons why they dodelinquent and the effects of juvenile delinquency. The subjects were three boy and two girl prisoners.Interview, observation and documents analysis were used to collect data in this qualitative research.The data were analyzed by data reduction, coding and verification.Results indicate that the factors cause of juvenile delinquency among children prisoner are external andinternal factors. The external factors is family structure or disharmonic communication between parentsand children. The internal factors are sexuality drive and their hedonistic manner. The effects of juveniledelinquency increase number children or teenagers that being against the law and sexual harassment tothe girls inmate.

A Penitentiary is an implementing institution of the criminal system that functions to foster prisoners, including in this case women who undergo criminal punishment are required to participate in a whole series of formation activities in prisons. In this case, the effectiveness of the formation of prisoners can set a good example and example to others, especially for women, children, and elderly prisoners. Then the supporting factors can be used as examples for better in the future and factors that can hinder the coaching can be found better solutions. The purpose of this study is to determine the pattern of coaching female, child, and elderly prisoners and determine the inhibiting and supporting factors of coaching. To overcome problems in the implementation of the development of women, children, and elderly prisoners, synergy is needed between all parties involved, ranging from prisoners, correctional officers, and related agencies to cooperate in the implementation of training for women, children, and elderly prisoners. For this reason, it is necessary to handle and coach to achieve better goals, and if the prisoner has come out, it will create an independent character and have a better leadership spirit

Adolescent inmates are a population that is vulnerable to depression because being a prisoner is a hard life for adolescents. All the pressure in prison will be a major cause of depression for juvenile prisoners while in detention. In addition, feelings of fear caused by public perceptions of free teenage inmates will make prisoners increasingly feel isolated. Therefore, to reduce these impacts, self-acceptance is needed. The purpose of this study is to describe the aspects of self-acceptance that exist in adolescent prisoners in prison. Samples were collected form 46 prisoners adolescents by applying the purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were self-acceptance questionnaires which has a reliability score of 0.934 (Alpha Cronbach).Data analysis used aquantitative approach with descriptive methods. The results of self-acceptance juvenile inmates obtained an average score of 155.93 (hight self-acceptance category) with an average percentage category of 70.88%.

The article examines the international legal standards of the procedure, particularly the rules and conditions, for the application of disciplinary influence measures to the juveniles sentenced to imprisonment. The author analyzes the relevant provisions of a number of such standards, namely: United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (the Nelson Mandela Rules) of 17.12.2015; European Prison Rules of 11.01.2006; Guidelines for Action on Children in the Criminal Justice System (The Vienna Guidelines) of 21.07.1997; Body of Principles for the Protection of All Persons under Any Form of Detention or Imprisonment of 09.12.1988; United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Administration of Juvenile Justice (The Beijing Rules) of 29.11.1985; United Nations Rules for the Protection of Juveniles Deprived of their Liberty (The Havana Rules) of 14.12.1990; The European Rules for juvenile offenders subject to sanctions or measures of 05.11.2008; Guidelines for child-friendly justice of 17.11.2010; Human rights in the administration of justice, including juvenile justice: Resolution 36/16 of 29.09.2017; Human Rights in the administration of justice: Resolution 75/185 of 16.12.2020; General comment No. 24 (2019) on children`s rights in the child justice system of 18.09.2019; Model Law on Juvenile Justice and Related Commentary: issued under the auspices of United Nations in 2013. The author finds out that the international standards for execution of punishment in the form of imprisonment of the juveniles pay special attention primarily to re-education, correction, social rehabilitation, readaptation as well as social reintegration of juvenile prisoners. The study reveals that the considered international legal acts focus, consequently, primarily on the educational impact of disciplinary measures, provide for an individual approach to juvenile prisoners, require the preservation of dignity and the welfare of juvenile prisoners, as well as enshrine the principle of proportionality of the applied measures in relation to the characteristics of the personality of a juvenile sentenced to imprisonment, and concerning to the circumstances and gravity of the offense committed by him/her. However, the author finds that the international standards, while defining a number of requirements for the application of sanctions, instead do not pay due attention to the incentives, which are mentioned only in the Nelson Mandela Rules and the European Rules for juvenile offenders

The purpose of this work involves a systematic reconstruction of the sociological views of the leader of the movement of Siberian regionalists - N. M. Yadrintsev on the problem of the regime of detention and mechanisms for the correction of juvenile delinquents. The relevance of the study is dictated by scientific, academic and practical tasks. Firstly, this fragment of the enlightenment’s ideological heritage has not yet received adequate coverage in literature. Therefore, the results of our work can contribute to the development of the subject area of the history of sociological thought in Russia. Secondly, the study can be useful in developing the doctrinal foundations of modern state penitentiary policy. The work is based on the methodology of the “new social history” and the provisions of the “new intellectual history”, which allows us to consider social phenomena through the prism of the individual, and not the state. Textual analysis of N. M. Yadrintsev’s works on the stated topic was also widely used. In the course of the study, it was established that the Siberian thinker advocated the separation of juvenile prisoners from adult inmates and the establishment of a special regime of detention for this category of forced prisoners. The article notes that when considering the problem of keeping juvenile criminals in isolation from society, the Siberian regionalist recorded the consistent humanization of the criminal punishment itself for children. The authors also show that in the matter of re-education of juvenile convicts, the publicist proposed the speedy introduction of educational supervision for the purpose of moral influence on child criminals. In general, it is concluded that N. M. Yadrintsev developed a rational method of correction, which should be based on examples from social life that give concepts about the mutual connection of people.

Dalam pasal 67 Undang-Undang No. 35 Tahun 2014 tentang perlindungan anak disebutkan bahwa perlindungan khusus bagi anak korban penyalahgunaan narkoba harus dilakukan pengawasan, pencegahan, perawatan dan Rehabilitasi tetapi Penegakan hukum yang dilakukan oleh penegak hukum terhadap anak penyalahgunaan narkoba lebih pada pemberian sanksi pidana. Hasil penelitian narapi dana anak yang terkena perkara narkoba di Aceh belum dapat dilaksanakan, karena selama ini tidak ada putusan hakim yang memerintahkan untuk melaksanakan rehabilitasi narapidana anak perkara narkoba. Hambatan yang dihadapi dalam pemenuhan hak rehabilitasi anak perkara narkoba yaitu faktor hukum, faktor aparat penegak Hukum, faktor Sarana prasarana dan faktor lingkungan.Upaya yang dilakukan adalah melakukan koordinasi antar instansi aparat penegak hokum dalam penegakan hukum dan pembinaan narapidana anak perkara narkoba. Article 67 of the Act Number 35, 2014 regarding Child Protection stipulates that special protection towards a child abusing drug must be done through Monitoring, Prevention, Care and Rehabilitation; however, The law enforcement conducted by law enforcers towards a child abusing drugs is more focusing on repressive way, which is by convicting the perpetrators. The findings are In regard with the juvenile prisoners having problem with the violation of the Act in Aceh especially in Lhoknga Detention Service has not been able to be conducted, as recently, there are no decisions of courts ordering rehabilitation for the prisoners at the narcotic cases. The obstacles faced in the implementation of rehabilitation right fulfillment of children prisoners’ committing narcotic crime are law, its enforcers, infrastructures and environment. The efforts conducted are coordination amongst institutions of law enforcers and guidance of the prisoners through the rehabilitation.

The article presents issues concerning juvenile prisoners of three special camps in Kozielsk, Starobielsk and Ostashkov. The author draws attention to the lack of definition of the legal status of minors after 1918, and thus — the lack of provisions on ensuring the safety of children in the international standards governing the treatment of prisoners of war in force during World War II and internal legal acts of the Soviet Union. The article emphasizes that the participation of children in armed conflicts was regulated as late as ten years after the outbreak of World War II in international humanitarian law, adopting on 12 August 1949 “The Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War” (Fourth Geneva Convention), under which children are entitled to special treatment or protection measures. The provisions of conventions protecting children during the war included, among others, regulations concerning the creation of special zones and sanitary facilities, evacuation from the besieged zone, provision of necessary food and clothing, provision of medical and hospital care, education or transfer to a neutral country. The author notes that the Fourth Geneva Convention does not contain a provision on special protection and care for juveniles, and that children during warfare are classified exclusively as civilian population. The circumstances of the Soviet captivity of minors after September 17, 1939, their stay in and leaving the camps, the reasons for selection, after which they were left alive and not included in the “death transports”, described in the article, make it possible to determine the number of rescued and murdered.

Imperial and colonial juvenile literature is assumed to be ‘an excellent reflector of the dominant ideas of an age’ (Mackenzie). This article by contrast argues for a less mimetic view through close rereading of Mrs R. Lee's Playing at Settlers, or the Faggot House (1855) , particularly its unfinished critiques of high colonialism from within. The actions of its enlightened British juvenile protagonists to educate their peers, and adult interlocutors, makes this text ‘settler’ and ‘Robinsonade’ fiction with a difference, as much for Britons at home as for those overseas. The tensions, cultural specificities and multi-colonial dimensions of the text explored in this article then suggest avenues for further research on juvenile works of the period, whether British or other European. Recovery of other similar, yet forgotten, works for children not only invites more informed reappraisal of them, but also of over-zealous postcolonial readings of the ‘civilising mission’ that have denied vociferous counter-colonial voices in juvenile, next-generational form.

What rights should prisoners on death row have to their body, or to their organs? In this work of philosophical short fiction, the narrator tells the story of his own family that lead to the law that allowed organs to be harvested from criminals (both living and after being put to death) to save the lives of the most needy. In the story, the narrator and his family have two children, the older Rupert, and the far younger Sadie. Rupert returns to live with the family and continues to show strong violent tendencies. He threatens to hurt the family and there is a plan to ask him to move out. Rupert overhears the plans, goes into a rage, and cuts out Sadie’s eyes with a knife. Later, under the new law, Sadie is provided a new set of eyes from a criminal; likely Rupert.

Whisper was a reject, living in a world so polluted and damaged that many humans and animals alike were born with defects. She'd grown up in an outcast camp far from any village, and those who lived in the camp were like her: disfigured. But on her sixteenth birthday, Whisper's father came to take her back to the village where she was to fill her mother's vacated spot and perform duties for the family. Her job was to cook, clean, wash the clothes, and maintain the family property. At night she was chained to the doghouse. Her uncle decided that Whisper could make far more money for the family by other means. He escorted her to the city where he brought her to the Purgatory Palace which was full of people like her, people with disfigurements who had been abandoned by their families and lived in the city for one reason only -to beg for money. Whisper refused to beg, and instead used the violin she'd received from her mother, and played songs for the money she earned. This became tolerable for a time. But Whisper missed her forest home with an ache as cold as the city and she missed the other rejects from the camp in the woods. When she was accused of attacking a store attendant, she found herself in jail. She was rescued by Solomon, a man who had heard her songs on the street corners and said that she played as only a genius could. He offered her a place at The Conservatory of Music, where she would study the violin with him. Whisper accepted this offer but even though she was warm, safe, and played music every day, she did not fit in at The University and knew that she never would. This is a young adult novel about Whisper, trying to find a place in a world that doesn't accept her. It is a story of rejection, pollution and social status. Whisper discovers that through perseverance, friends and determination, anyone can find a way to fit.

This study compared the experiences of adolescent offenders with and without incarcerated parents. A sample of adolescent offenders (n = 26) completed questionnaires assessing past experiences, including trauma and violence, and current behaviors. Over half of the participants reported having a parent who had served time in jail or prison. Adolescent offenders with incarcerated parents were more likely to feel safe at home and school, and more likely to witness their parents in a physical fight than adolescent offenders without incarcerated parents. In contrast, there were no significant differences between adolescent offenders with and without incarcerated parents in self-reported trauma. Post hoc analyses revealed that female adolescent offenders felt less safe, reported more physical punishment, and had more DHS involvement than male adolescent offenders.

One of the important themes of Children’s literature is to help children grow up. And the realistic fictions can help young people understand the significance of growth as “real” in the real world. The research takes five Newbery Medal winning works, “The Summer of the Swans”, “Sweet Whispers, Brother Rush”, “Joey Pigza Loses Control”, “Al Capone Does My Shirts”, “Rules”, as the keys to enter the world of exceptional children in order to discuss and analyze ADHD, mental retardation, and autistic children. The study is divided into five chapters. The first chapter, Introduction, discusses the readers can enhance their understanding of disability groups by reading those kinds of juvenile fictions. The second chapter discusses the texts in the images of exceptional children. Analyze those kids’ characterization to understand their characteristics. The third chapter discusses the relationship between exceptional children and their parents. Because of the birth of children with special needs, brings the impacts and influences on their parents, and causes psychological stress and parental adjustment problems. The fourth chapter discusses the special relationship between exceptional children and siblings. Both the exceptional children and their non-physically challenged siblings approach the growth progress by getting through the enlightenment trilogy—conflict, escape and identity. The fifth chapter is the conclusion that we can expect the understanding, tolerance and fair treatment of exceptional children. There is only love can overcome obstacles. “Always with you, I’m not alone.” If we can have better understanding of exceptional children, we shall be able to get across the barriers and obstacles between both sides, and get along with each other which are the main purpose of this study.

Children experience life crisis and normal developmental problems. This study is aimed at highlighting the role fiction can play in assisting children in coping with certain normal life crisis and developmental problems. A discussion on the nature of the bibliotherapeutic process indicated that fiction plays a major role in the success thereof.
A model was designed for the selection process of fiction for the bibliotherapeutic process. Selection criteria were established for both the reader and the reading matter. Tables were designed consisting of selection criteria for both the reader and the reading matter. Stories about life crisis relating to death and divorce, as well as normal developmental problems about fear of peer group rejection and fear of the acquirement of skills, were evaluated against these criteria. This indicates that it is possible to select the right book for the bibliotherapeutic process with children.Information Science

It comprises creative work in the form of four fairy tales and a novel for upper primary/early high school readers (70%) and a short exegesis (30%). The creative work uses key fairy tale elements to tell new stories for contemporary children. The four fairy tales are intended to sit within the Western European tradition, drawing on the repetitions, cadence and storytelling voice of the tales collected by the Brothers Grimm.

This thesis examines the role of children's picture books in constructing cultural ideologies. It aims to analyse the dominant cultural ideologies inscribed in Thai and Australian children's picture books, with specific emphasis on how such identities are constructed through verbal and visual language. The analysis focuses on the changes, if any, in the construction of cultural ideologies in Thai and Australian children's picture books that won national awards from 1987 to 2006, and how the changes correspond to the impact of social change. The corpus chosen for analysis consists of 60 children's books, comprising 30 from Thailand and 30 from Australia. The picture books have either won the Thai National Book Development Committee Award or the Picture Book of the Year Award given by Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA). The thesis is structured around three themes based on the ideological construction of power in the books, including the construction of age relations, gender relations and community relations. Despite the fact that Thai society has undergone enormous change over the last two decades, the analysis shows that award-winning Thai children's books have been written mainly from a conservative point of view. They work by providing the foundations for social harmony and respect of order in a patriarchal and hierarchical society where all members are expected to know their proper place and live their lives in ways that contribute to the benefit of the whole community. Some slight changes can be detected in the way perspectives on those cultural ideologies have shifted at certain periods. These include the way of giving more emphasis to a child's self discovery over adult authority, the attempt to create non sexist picture books, and changes in the meaning and implication of unity and cohesion. Yet the analysis reveals that an ethos of conservative discourse still informs the books. It highlights the use of representation to control the overall appearance of idealised discourse in Thai society. In contrast, there is much variety and range in the way cultural ideologies have been constructed in award winning Australian children's books. While an ethos of conservative discourse can still be detected in the corpus, a number of books show that such ways of seeing the world can be challenged, questioned and even proved to be inadequate. Unlike the Thai books, the representation of patriarchal and hierarchical society can be overturned by giving more prominence to children's sense of agency and imagination and by portraying male and female characters in a more symmetrical way. In contrast to the depiction of the smooth and harmonious relationship between people of the same cultural and community groups in the Thai books, some recent Australian picture books emphasise the conflicts and disputes between different social groups. These changes are analysed in the context of the impact of social change. Social and political topics, such as the emancipation of women through the feminist movement and issues relating to contemporary politics including refugees, border control and cultural difference are taken into account.

By the middle of the twentieth century, television had replaced literature as the principal means by which American children were acculturated. Juvenile fiction, meanwhile, became less avowedly imperial. “Empire’s nursery” partially collapsed under the weight of testimonials penned by nonwhite peoples unwilling to remain silent about the crimes committed against them in the name of US imperialism. Children’s literature increasingly avoided the subject of foreign relations as America’s global image became tarnished following the disaster in Vietnam.

Abstract When, In A Climatic Moment in Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights (1847), Lockwood is troubled by an apparition of Catherine Earnshaw and hysterically exclaims “she must have been a changeling-wicked little soul” (p. 13), he is expressing a fantastic anxiety peculiar to the period. Similarly, when Edward Rochester, angered at her rejection of his prenuptial caresses, accuses Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre of being not his Jane but a “changeling,” he is attempting to fathom what to him is a strange transformation in personality and behavior. In actuality even more than in fiction, changelings-that is, children perceived as abnormal surreptitiously sub stituted for normal ones-were very much a part of the Victorian world. An article in the Daily Telegraph of 19 May 1884 informed readers that Ellen Cushion and Anastatia Rourke were arrested at Clonmel on Saturday charged with cruelly illtreating a child three years old, named Philip Dillon. The prisoners were taken before the Mayor, when evidence was given showing that the neighbours fancied that the boy, who had not the use of his limbs, was a changeling left by the fairies in ex change for the original child. While the mother was absent, the prisoners entered her house and placed the lad naked on a hot shovel under the impression that this would break the charm.

There was no singular type of Sunday paper. A multiplicity of Sunday supplements produced new kinds of readers through their very form and design. Each asked readers to do more than read, but to interact with the materiality of the paper as a form of leisure. Sunday supplements established a different temporality from the weekday newspaper and the bustle of the workweek. They entreated readers to spend time with the paper, tying them to the rhythms of the weekend and the home. This temporality linked one Sunday to another, making a subscription all the more logical by providing a cultural aesthetic for the home. Most varieties of supplements appealed to women readers, who were considered especially important for securing home delivery. Lithographed art and photographic supplements, sheet music, novels and fiction magazines, fashion plates, and sewing patterns: all offered a distinctly feminine appeal. Games, puzzles, coloring books and all variety of paper toys appealed to children. Women readers found aesthetic appreciation; juvenile readers delighted in aesthetic play. Even in later days of early radio, Sunday papers were conduits of popular education explicitly including all members of the family as reading subjects, each invested in subscribing to the paper.
