Chester Step Test to predict Maximal Oxygen Uptake of Elementary School 6th Grade Students Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to discuss the relationship between actual and predicting maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) during Chester step test. Method: Subjects are 24 boys (age: 12.12±.34) and 24 girls (age: 12.27±.30) who are in 6th grade of the elementary school. In the first phase, the subjects performed Chester step test using stepping height of 30cm. The oxygen uptake and heart rate used simple linear regression to predict maximal oxygen uptake. In the second phase, the subjects had maximal oxygen uptake measured by Marhon and Marsh (1993) treadmill test. After experiment, we use Pearson product-moment correlation analysis to analyze data. All statistical significance in all tests was set at p<.05. In the third phase, all subjects performed the 2nd Chester step test to validate the test-retest reliability. Results: The maximal oxygen uptake of boys were 51.25±7.81 ml • kg-1 • min-1 and girls were 46.81±6.88 ml • kg-1 • min-1. The correlation between actual VO2max and Chester step test to predict VO2max during personal oxygen uptake was statistically significant(r=.88). The correlation between actual VO2max and Chester step test to predict VO2max during the average oxygen uptake was statistically significant(r=.79).Test-retest analysis of twice Chester step tests was found to be good(r=.89,p<.05). Conclusion: The Chester step test was shown to be a valid test for elementary school 6th grade students. Keywords: Chester step test, VO2max, heart rate
