Streszczenie:
The Aotearoa New Zealand’s Histories curriculum will be compulsory in 2023; what and how New Zealand history will be taught is currently up for debate. An innovative approach to engaging key curriculum understandings like colonisation, settlement and power would recognise that settler sensibilities frame national histories, to make visible the ongoing structuring force of colonisation. To this end, we present a model for teaching students how to consider a relationship between national identity, collective memory, and colonial history; to read settler cultural bias embedded in national institutions. Channelling a haunting is a process whereby students are encouraged to think and feel as though absent and silenced histories of colonial violence are not resolved, and to critique how settler memory and forgetting about New Zealand history permeates exhibitions at national institutions. Findings from a small group of student teachers who were channelling a haunting at two museums housing documents of national significance show how lovely and difficult knowledge about colonial history can create a sense of embodied racial comfort that legitimises the status quo. Rather than perceive national institutions as culturally neutral, students of all ages may be taught to critically analyse how they are biased to settler perspectives.

Streszczenie:
ALCHEMI (Atom Location by CHannelling-Enhanced Microanalysis) is a TEM technique for determining site occupancies in single crystals. The method uses the channelling of incident electrons along specific crystallographic planes. This channelling results in enhanced x-ray emission from the atoms on those planes, thereby providing the required site-occupancy information. ALCHEMI has been applied with success to spinel, olivine and feldspar. For the garnets, which form a large group of important minerals and synthetic compounds, the channelling effect is weaker, and significant results are more difficult to obtain. It was found, however, that the channelling effect is pronounced for low-index zone-axis orientations, yielding a method for assessing site occupancies that is rapid and easy to perform.

Streszczenie:
Thickening performance is greatly influenced by aggregate densification and channelling development; however, the microstructures of aggregates and channelling are unable to directly observe because of high turbidity mud bed during thickening. Computed tomography scan imaging technique has been introduced to investigate the effects of aggregate densification and channelling in the mud bed samples during unclassified tailings thickening. The samples were prepared through deep-freezing and freeze-drying techniques, immediately after sampling from the operation of a pilot thickener. Based on the information of void ratio, pore-size distribution, and permeability, obtained from 3D reconstruction images of the aggregates structure, aggregate densification and channelling development have been characterized. Channelling patterns have been classified by the size and shape of the connection throat of the pore between aggregates. As the aggregate structure broke and densified, the void ratio and pore size of the mud bed were decreased. Thickening performance enhancement was predicted based on solid flux and permeability of mud bed, and the result indicated raking on aggregate densification and channelling apparently improves the unclassified tailings dewatering extent.

The objectives of the research is to study and to analyze empirically the influence of office channelling on third party deposits and return on assets in Indonesian sharia business unit. Third party deposits and return on assets are used as indicators of sharia business unit performance after opening new branchs through office channelling program. The research uses korelasional method. The number of sharia business units taken as samples in the research cover about 10 sharia business unit in Indonesia which already publicate theirs own financial statements separated from their conventional banks financial statements. The data were analyzed using Ordinary Least Square Method. The result show that, firstly, office channelling statistically significant influence third party deposits, but secondly, office channelling statistically insignificant influence return on assets. This unpredicted result shows that the increase of third party deposits through office channelling program not automatically could increase return on assets. We found that the sharia business unit couldn't yet opfimally response the increase of third party deposits. The increasing of third party deposits were not followed yet by the good atocafions of fund. Keywords : Office channelling, Third party deposits, Return on assets, Sharia business unit, Performance

Channelling, which occurs during the batch thickening of concentrated slurries, allows water to escape the settling slurry at a high rate, thus increasing the interface settling velocity. This research shows that the upper layers of the settling column are progressively diluted and that the channel zone occurs at the interface between the diluted slurry and the slurry in compression. As the solids in the lower sections of the column compress and expel water, this water escapes by means of the channels.

Multienzyme complexes and multifunctional proteins may confer a kinetic advantage by channelling reaction intermediates between consecutive enzymes and reducing the transient time for the establishment of steady states. A general means for quantitatively assessing the contribution of channelling to the reduction of pool size and transient time is presented. Restrictions to the kinetic advantage are identified, and it is shown that no channelling advantage is obtained at high enzyme concentration or for enzymes which exhibit rapid-equilibrium kinetic behaviour.

Streszczenie:
The interaction of wind, terrain and a fire burning in a landscape can produce a variety of unusual yet significant effects on fire propagation. One such example, in which a fire exhibits rapid spread in a direction transverse to the synoptic winds as well as in the usual downwind direction, is considered in this paper. This type of fire spread, which is referred to as ‘fire channelling’, is characterised by intense lateral and downwind spotting and production of extensive flaming zones. The dependence of fire channelling on wind and terrain is analysed using wind, terrain and multispectral fire data collected during the January 2003 Alpine fires over south-eastern Australia. As part of the analysis, a simple terrain-filter model is utilised to confirm a quantitative link between instances of fire channelling and parts of the terrain that are sufficiently steep and lee-facing. By appealing to the theory of wind–terrain interaction and the available evidence, several processes that could produce the atypical fire spread are considered and some discounted. Based on the processes that could not be discounted, and a previous analysis of wind regimes in rugged terrain, a likely explanation for the fire channelling phenomenon is hypothesised. Implications of fire channelling for bushfire risk management are also discussed.

Streszczenie:
AbstractCrack channelling is predicted in a brittle coating-substrate system that is subjected to a moisture or temperature gradient in the thickness direction. Competing failure scenarios are identified, and are distinguished by the degree to which the coating-substrate interface delaminates, and whether this delamination is finite or unlimited in nature. Failure mechanism maps are constructed, and illustrate the sensitivity of the active crack channelling mechanism and associated channelling stress to the ratio of coating toughness to interfacial toughness, to the mismatch in elastic modulus and to the mismatch in coefficient of hygral or thermal expansion. The effect of the ratio of coating to substrate thickness upon the failure mechanism and channelling stress is also explored. Closed-form expressions for the steady-state delamination stress are derived, and are used to determine the transition value of moisture state that leads to unlimited delamination. Although the results are applicable to coating-substrate systems in a wide range of applications, the study focusses on the prediction of cracking in historical paintings due to indoor climate fluctuations, with the objective of helping museums developing strategies for the preservation of art objects. For this specific application, crack channelling with delamination needs to be avoided under all circumstances, as it may induce flaking of paint material. In historical paintings, the substrate thickness is typically more than ten times larger than the thickness of the paint layer; for such a system, the failure maps constructed from the numerical simulations indicate that paint delamination is absent if the delamination toughness is larger than approximately half of the mode I toughness of the paint layer. Further, the transition between crack channelling with and without delamination appears to be relatively insensitive to the mismatch in the elastic modulus of the substrate and paint layer. The failure maps developed in this work may provide a useful tool for museum conservators to identify the allowable indoor humidity and temperature fluctuations for which crack channelling with delamination is prevented in historical paintings.
