Abstract. This research develops a multilevel motivation model to examine the mediating effect of collective identity and change self-efficacy on the relationship between change leadership and employee commitment to change. Our model is empirically tested using data collected from 647 employees within 110 teams. The results show that in addition to the positive relationship between change leadership and employee commitment to change, collective identity at the group level and change self-efficacy at the individual level significantly mediate the positive relationship between change leadership and employee commitment to change. This paper rounds off with a discussion of limitations and contributions from theoretical and practical perspectives.

In order to fulfill the planned change, an organization should seriously take the role of individual perception into consideration, in which the individual plays a pivotal role in the change implementation stage through their act. This study aims to investigate the attitude of readiness to change based on the multidimensional concept, with communication of change and change-efficacy as antecedents. This study involved shariah rural bank, located in East Java, as a research object. Furthermore, a quantitative approach was employed in this study, in which survey as a procedure for collecting data through questionnaires. In addition, PLS-SEM was employed as an analysis of research method. The results exhibit that communication of change contribute to develop of almost all forms attitude of readiness to change and change-efficacy can predict all forms of readiness to change. Finally, this study offers several implications, both theoretically and practically.

Hög arbetsrelaterad self-efficacy har visat sig fördelaktigt inom organisationer, exempelvis bidrar det till mindre motstånd till förändring. Syftet med denna studie var att finna ledarskapsageranden vilka är av betydelse för arbetsrelaterad self-efficacy samt se ifall arbetsrelaterad self-efficacy i sin tur kan förklara variansen för motstånd till förändring. Studien genomfördes med två delstudier på ett större industriföretag. Kvalitativa intervjuer med 8 chefer genomfördes vilka sedan meningskoncentrerades. En kvantitativ enkät genomfördes med 101 respondenter på företaget. Enkäten inspirerades av skalorna för General Self-Efficacy, Occupational Self-Efficacy samt Resistance to Change. Materialet undersöktes med korrelation- och regressionsanalyser. Studiens resultat visade att då en ledare använder de framtagna ledarskapsagerandena riktade mot den anställde, har det betydelse för graden av arbetsrelaterad self-efficacy. Arbetsrelaterad self-efficacy i sin tur visade sig samvariera negativt med motstånd till förändring. Slutligen bidrog studien med förståelse över ledarskapets komplexitet att anpassa och agera efter såväl syfte, person och situation.

Prior research involving self-efficacy, hardiness, and the stages of exercise behavior change has been limited. This study attempted to determine if differences existed in self-efficacy for exercise, hardiness, and the components of hardiness (control, commitment, and challenge) in individuals at the preparation, action, and maintenance stages of exercise behavior change. Stages of Exercise Behavior Change, Exercise Self-Efficacy, and the Personal Views Survey were used to assess the individuals' stage of exercise behavior, self-efficacy for exercise, hardiness and the components of hardiness levels. The researcher found significant differences in self-efficacy across the three stages of exercise behavior. Specifically, individuals in the preparation, or third stage of change, had significantly lower levels of self-efficacy than those in the action and maintenance stages. The researcher found no significant differences in hardiness, or the components of hardiness, across the preparation, action, and maintenance stages of exercise behavior change.

Leading successful organizational change is central to an effective leadership approach. Servant leadership with its emphasis on follower growth and development, may be beneficial for organizational change. This study added to the understanding of servant leadership and commitment to organizational change by surveying participants (n = 244) of a large non-profit specialized healthcare organization implementing an electronic medical records system to assess if perceived servant leader behaviors correlate with followers’ attitude toward change. This study utilized Winston and Fields’ (in press) Essential Servant Leadership Behaviors (ESLB) scale to assess servant leadership’s ability to predict follower commitment to change mindset and interaction time with supervisor as a mediating mechanism. The survey results showed ESLB was found to be a statistically significant but weak positive predictor of affective commitment to change and a statistically significant but weak negative predictor of continuance commitment to change. The results showed evidence that servant leadership behaviors are appropriate for not just maintaining status quo but are also influential during disruptive times of organizational change. No significant relationship was found between ESLB and normative commitment to change. Interaction time with supervisor was not a mediating variable between ESLB and follower commitment to change.

This study employed a longitudinal cross-lagged panel design to evaluate the effect of teachers’ self-efficacy on their motivation to participate in professional development. Data were collected from 43 Hong Kong secondary school teachers at 2 measurement points. The cross-lagged panel analyses revealed teachers’ higher self-efficacy predicted lower motivation to join the professional training programme. However, this negative effect brought by self-efficacy was only significant if the programme was appealing to the teachers at Time 1. Correlation statistics also showed that teachers with higher self-efficacy tended to rate their familiarity of the programmes higher at both measurement points. The meaningfulness of the programmes was also positively correlated with the motivation to join the programmes.

Literature focusing on the aftermath of conflict in the Western Balkans, notes that many people remain focused on stereotypes and prejudices between different ethnic groups stoking fear of a return to conflict. This rapid review examines evidence focussing on various interventions that seek to promote inter-group relations that are greatly elusive in the political realm in the Western Balkan. Socio-political change requires a growing critical mass that sees the merit in progressive and conciliatory ethnic politics and is capable of side-lining divisive ethno-nationalist forces. This review provides an evidence synthesis of pathways through which micro-level, civil-society-based interventions can produce ‘ripple effects’ in society and scale up to affect larger geographic areas and macro-level socio-political outcomes. These interventions help in the provision of alternative platforms for dealing with divisive nationalism in post-conflict societies. There is need to ensure that the different players participating in reconciliation activities are able to scale up and attain broader reach to ensure efficacy and hence enabling them to become ‘multiplier of peace.’ One such way is by providing tools for activism. The involvement of key people and institutions, who are respected and play an important role in the everyday life of communities and participants is an important factor in the design and success of reconciliation initiatives. These include the youth, objective media, and journalists. The transformation of conflict identities through reconciliation-related activities is theorised as leading to the creation of peace constituencies that support non-violent approaches to conflict resolution and sustainable peace The success of reconciliation interventions largely depends on whether it contributes to redefining otherwise antagonistic identities and hostile relationships within a community or society.

Despite government efforts to reform teacher professional development (TPD) in the past four decades, Indonesian teacher quality remains low. Why have the improvement efforts failed? In the present study we investigate what caused these reforms to fail from two angles. First, we examine the efficacy of the latest teacher professional development (TPD) initiative in Indonesia, Pengembangan Keprofesian Berkelanjutan or PKB (Continuing Professional Development), and identify the factors affecting its efficacy. We found that some essential features of effective TPD are missing in PKB. The PKB programme has not targeted teachers based on years of experience, has not followed up teachers with post-training activities, has not incorporated teaching practice through lesson enactment, and has not built upon teacher existing practice. Second, our analysis demonstrates that PKB's weaknesses have existed in Indonesia's previous TPD initiatives as far back as four decades ago. This indicates that the long-term problem of TPD’s ineffectiveness is driven by different elements of the education system beyond the TPD’s technical and operational aspects. Our system-level analysis points out that merely improving the technical aspects of TPD would be insufficient given the Indonesian education system’s lack of coherence surrounding teacher quality. The problems surrounding the provision of effective TPD is more complex than simply a matter of replacing the “old” with the “new” initiative. The change requires a reorientation of the education system to produce high-quality teachers.

We explored some of the questions posed by digitalisation in an accompanying working paper focused on constitutional theory: Digitalisation, the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ and the Constitutional Law of Privacy in South Africa. In that paper, we asked what legal resources are available in the South African legal system to respond to the risk and benefits posed by digitalisation. We argued that this question would be best answered by developing what we have termed a 'South African public law perspective'. In our view, while any particular legal system may often lag behind, the law constitutes an adaptive resource that can and should respond to disruptive technological change by re-examining existing concepts and creating new, more adequate conceptions. Our public law perspective reframes privacy law as both a private and a public good essential to the functioning of a constitutional democracy in the era of digitalisation. In this working paper, we take the analysis one practical step further: we use our public law perspective on digitalisation in the South African health sector. We do so because this sector is significant in its own right – public health is necessary for a healthy society – and also to further explore how and to what extent the South African constitutional framework provides resources at least roughly adequate for the challenges posed by the current 'digitalisation plus' era. The theoretical perspective we have developed is certainly relevant to digitalisation’s impact in the health sector. The social, economic and political progress that took place in the 20th century was strongly correlated with technological change of the first three industrial revolutions. The technological innovations associated with what many are terming ‘the fourth industrial revolution’ are also of undoubted utility in the form of new possibilities for enhanced productivity, business formation and wealth creation, as well as the enhanced efficacy of public action to address basic needs such as education and public health.

Les déchets renferment de grandes quantités d’énergie aussi bien directe qu’indirecte. Les déchets ménagers incinérés chaque année en Suisse représentent une valeur énergétique de quelque 60 pétajoules. L’énergie qui en est directement tirée couvre environ 4 % des besoins en énergie finale. Le plus gros potentiel en matière de gestion des déchets réside cependant dans le recyclage des matériaux, afin de leur donner une seconde vie et d’éviter ainsi indirectement la production énergivore de matières premières Pour optimiser la contribution de la gestion des déchets à la transition énergétique, il s’agit dans un premier temps d’améliorer la transparence et la documentation des flux de matières et d’argent et, sur cette base, de hiérarchiser l’impact énergétique des diverses solutions de valorisation et d’élimination. Les catégories de déchets identifiées comme ayant le plus grand potentiel d’amélioration sont le papier, le carton ainsi que le plastique. En ce qui concerne le papier et le carton, les énormes quantités traitées promettent des résultats significatifs. À l’exception des bouteilles en PET, le tri sélectif des plastiques usagés demeure encore peu développé. Un potentiel d’optimisation notable a également été identifié au niveau de l’efficacité énergétique des usines d’incinération. Pour permettre une utilisation plus efficace de la chaleur générée par les usines d’incinération d’ordures ménagère (UIOM), les consommateurs de vapeur et d’énergie thermique doivent toutefois être implantés à proximité. Un facteur décisif pour progresser vers une gestion des déchets plus efficace sur le plan énergétique est la collaboration entre les nombreux acteurs du secteur à l’échelle fédérale. Ceux-ci doivent d’une part mieux s’organiser tout au long de la chaîne de création de valeur et d’autre part tirer profit de la marge de manœuvre que procure la souplesse du fédéralisme pour tester différentes approches.
