Streszczenie:
Purpose. COVID-19 is an extremely infectious, life-threatening viral illness that has constituted a global public health emergency. Rehabilitation programs of children with cerebral palsy were interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the study was to assess the effects of COVID-19 restrictions on gross motor function of children with cerebral palsy. Material and Methods. In this study, a survey of fifty eight cerebral palsied children of both genders who received physical therapy recruited from three hospitals in Cairo, Egypt (October 6 university hospital -6th of October general hospital- El Hosary hospital- Zaid general hospital- Zaid specialled hospital- Private physical therapy centers). It was done through paediatrics Quality of life inventory (cerebral therapy module) to compare between the level of the children’s quality of life before and after frequent stopping of physical therapy sessions due to covid-19 pandemic. Results. The result of this study shows that there was a significant difference in movement and balance before and after the lockdown (p <0.001). The mean value was decreased from 54.1% to 33.3%. Also, there was a significant decrease in Pain and hurt (p<0.001) from 68.2% to 37.1% and in fatigue (p<0.001) from 58.8% to 37.8%. Regarding age there was a significant difference between different age groups regarding daily activities (p<0.001), pain (p<0.010) and fatigue (p<0.030), while after lockdown, there was a significant difference between different age groups regarding daily activities (p<0.001) and fatigue (p<0.001). Conclusion. Children with cerebral palsy were protected from COVID-19 exposure by staying at home, but their rehabilitation activities were disrupted. Therefore, during pandemics, caregivers must develop effective homecare therapy procedures, and healthcare professionals must routinely reassess the state of the child and caregiver. Additionally, caregivers of children with CP should experience less stress and anxiety. Children with CP can get multidisciplinary support, effective communication, and contact between medical professionals and families.

Streszczenie:
"Introduction: Cerebral palsy in children (CP) is a group of non-progressive neurological disorders characterized by inadequate control of movement and posture, caused by factors affecting the central nervous system pre-, intra-, or postnatally, within the first 3-5 years of life (the initial period of brain development). Cerebral palsies are considered non-progressive conditions, but they are continuously dynamic, influenced by the processes of growth and development, so the clinical manifestations can change over time. Aim: The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the role of physical therapy in improving Gross Motor Function and integrating Primitive Reflexes in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Material and methods: The study was conducted at the Mihai Nesu Foundation (Oradea) over a period of 6 months (from November 7, 2022, to May 5, 2023) on a female subject with a chronological age of 6 years and 5 months. It involved implementing a physical therapy program twice a week, consisting of exercises to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic girdle, trunk, and lower limbs, as well as exercises to improve anterior knee balance, coordination, and integration of primitive reflexes. Results: Following the rehabilitation program, regarding the progression of walking, a reduction in the time needed by the patient to complete it was observed, from 21 seconds initially to 18 seconds at the end. Additionally, the integration of the Asymmetric Tonic Neck Reflex on both the left and right sides, as well as the Moro reflex for the vestibular and visual systems, was evident. The Stepping-Over-Obstacle reflex was integrated within physiological parameters, while no changes were observed in the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex of Flexion/Extension from the beginning to the end. Conclusion: In conclusion, we can affirm that implementing a comprehensive rehabilitation program over a period of 6 months, consisting of thermotherapy, massage, and sensory stimulation, followed by Thera-Suit sessions and physical therapy, will allow for the integration of primitive reflexes, improvement of walking and balance, as well as the enhancement of gross motor function in a child with spastic tetraparesis, as confirmed by partial results."

Streszczenie:
Oxidative stress plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of neurological disorders. Saliva may constitute a first line of defence, against free radical-modified oxidative stress. The objective of the present study was to evaluate Total Antioxidant Capacity(TAC), levels of Nitric Oxide(NO), and Sialic Acid (SA) in saliva of cerebral palsied children. Study design: Thirty four non-institutionalized children in the age group of 7-12 years having cerebral palsy formed the study group. The control group consisted of thirty three normal, healthy children. The W.H.O. criteria was used for diagnosis and recording of dental caries. Oral hygiene status was assessed using the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index OHI-S. Estimation of Total Antioxidant Capacity, levels of Nitric Oxide and Sialic Acid in saliva was done. Data obtained was subjected to statistical analysis. Results: Children with CP had higher deft scores than that of normal children. Oral hygiene of children with CP was significantly poorer than that of normal children. Total Antioxidant Capacity of saliva was significantly higher in normal children than cerebral palsied children. Levels of Sialic Acid in saliva were significantly higher in cerebral palsy children. Conclusions: In children with CP, TAC of saliva showed an inverse relation with dental caries.
