Pełny tekst źródłaAt the end of the Ancien Régime, the center of Paris presents many different sorts of buildings, most of which are dwelling houses. The first part deals with technical aspects of building: materials and techniques used for building shell and for the finishing off, as well as water conveyance and refuse collection. New buildings are particularly seen from the economic point of view. The second part deals with links between the housing and the city: connections between the width of the streets and the height of the houses, the decoration of the façades, urban morphology and its influence on house planning. The analysis of the housing distribution allows examining the use of the housing. Several examples show the interactions between professional activity, location and architecture. At last, I emphasize dwelling in some surprising buildings, as churches, schools or public buildings. This thesis offers a global view of building and housing in the center of Paris

Pełny tekst źródłaPorous and polymorphic urban entity, the Latin Quarter is evanescent. Its borders remain uncertain and vary according to the individuals. This place idealized for centuries is more significantly similar to a mythical figure than to a real such as the sociological terminology understands it. It is between a lived space and between a dreamed space, crystallizing the social aspiration of a metropolitan life embodied in its territory through its streets, its monuments and its places of sociability. In view of this report, it was important us to confront these representations anchored in the international collective imagination with the perceptions of the Parisian and particularly those of the students, whose history of the group joins in the urban fabric of the Latin Quarter. The revealing of this identity tourmented between tradition and modernity aroused from then on a questioning about the adequacy of its heritages -material and immaterial with the configuration of a globalized capital

Pełny tekst źródłaIn order to better understand the mechanisms of deterioration of modem glass subjected to a polluted urban environment, a fie exposure experiment was conducted. Samples of Na-Ca float glass were exposed in the centre of Paris sheltered and unsheltered from the ram. Samples were withdrawn after 1, 2, 6 and 12 months. In parallel, a study of the Parisian atmosphere was undertaken: the particulate contents, the total atmospheric fallout, the temperature and relative humidity were recorded, the gaseous pollutant concentrations (SO2, NOx. . . ) were gathered. This study shows that the chemical composition of the uppermost part of the glass samples (a few tens of nm) was found to undergo a slight modification consisting in a depletion in sodium (leaching). The precipitations (amount and acid pH) are the main factor as suggested from the fact that the thickness of the leached layer is greater for samples exposed to the rain. Nevertheless the pollutant gas concentrations (SO2, and NOx), the temperature, the relative humidity and the particulate matter (soots) also appear to have a considerable role. This work also shows that float glass readily accumulates fine particles (diameter < 1um) (soiling). These particles diffuse (organic carbon and salts) and absorb (elemental carbon) the light and thus cause a loss of transparency of the substrate. According to the exposure mode two distinct facies can be described. On sheltered samples a thin film composed of a mixture of carbon (organic and mineral) and su and nitrates is present. On the unsheltered samples a carpet of coalescent soots, over which a smail amount of su and nitrates are observed; carbon is the largest portion of the deposit; its accumulation is not proportional to the atmospheric elemental carbon concentration. The accumulation of sa is related to the gaseous pollutants concentrations (SO2, Nox), to the particulate nitrates content, to the relative humidity and to temperature

Pełny tekst źródłaIn this work, we analyzed the role, type and character of the large commercial establishment in the formation of the centrality in urban fringe through a relationship with the evolution of the city. We conducted the same analysis on the new town in the outskirts of Seoul. Also, we looked for a comparison between two cities, Paris and Seoul. This work is carried out around three points of view presented below : the evolution of commercial space in the urban mutation of Paris and Seoul; the role of commercial space and peripheral centrality : the case of the new town; the characteristic and evolution of shopping center : the case of Korea. Here are the contents of each part : the first part deals with contents related to the evolution of the commercial space in the urban mutation. Chapter I presents the evolution of commercial space in Paris and Seoul by distinguishing the historical evolution, the evolution of commercial space in the process of modernization, changes in lifestyle and adaptation of urban space in these developments. Chapter II provides the theoretical analysis and the definition relating to the urban center in the process of modernization that leads the development of the center and its periphery and considers the dispersion of the center, the regional distribution of large commercial establishment on the outskirts of the city and the spatial evolution of the peripheral area of Seoul. Then, Chapter III examines the type of shopping center and the nature of urban space, the composition of the commercial space, the changing patterns of consumption and the expansion of commercial equipment. In the second part, we consider the role of commercial space and the peripheral centrality about the new town. Chapter IV discusses the role of commercial space as a key element in the composition of central place in which it distinguished the policy, the spatial character of the central place and the role of the commercial establishment in the composition of the new town. Chapter V deals with content related to the current state of the large commercial establishment, the form of the central place, the state of consumer space, the principles of the urban design and the identity of Ilsan and Bundang new town, located on the outskirts of Seoul. Chapter VI analyzes the architectural characteristics, type, role of large commercial establishment located in the new town and the image of the commercial space as a place of urban activity. In the third part, we consider the characteristics and evolution of the shopping center in Korea. Chapter VII analyzes the evolution of regulations related to commercial urban planning, the evolution and the development of commercial space by giving the definition of various types of sales. Finally, Chapter VIII analyzes the shopping center as a new urban fabric considering their type and character, the nature of the spatial composition and the tendency of the complexity of these Korean institutions

Pełny tekst źródłaThe European Renaissance glass art was deeply influenced by the style and the techniques invented by Venetian glassmakers. Those fashionable glass products were in demand in every European country. In France, king Henri II and queen Catherine de Medici established a glasshouse near the royal palace of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and employed Venetian glassmakers. After the death of the glassworkers, a new glasshouse, ruled by Italian glassmakers from Altare was established at the end of the 16th century, in the faubourg Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The development of the glass industry in Île-de-France from 1547 to 1610 is linked to the style and techniques brought by Italian glassmakers. In addition to the Italian influence, two glass-related professions were created at that time in Paris: the glass bead makers and the glass sellers. The study of men and their skills constitutes one approach of the subject. The second one explores the trade, circulation and uses of glass products. They became, in the 16th century, more and more common in both modest and wealthy Parisian interiors and were used for their particular properties (especially suitable for medical use for example). On the other hand, some glass products, more prestigious and fashionable, were collected for their decorative and aesthetic value

Pełny tekst źródłaAt the begining of the nineteenth century, the Paris churches stained glasses were in a sorry condition. This sad condition is the result of the maintenance made by glaziers, the lighting campaigns during the eighteenth century and the vandalism during the French Revolution. The first restorations can only be part of a greater movement of the ancient technics rediscovery. So Georges Bontemps, the director of the Choisy le Roy glassworks, created a process to make red glass. From 1843- to 18454, the authotities of Paris started an ambitious restoration program with the sixteenth century stained glasses of the Virgin chapel in the parish church of Saint- Gervais. From 1845 to the end of the nineteenth century, one artist, trained as a painter, Prosper Lafaye, got almost all the restoration works of the city. He collaborated with Charles Denis, the official glazier of the capital under the architect Victor Baltard's authority. He only had a few competitors: the workshops Gsell-Laurent, Joseph Félon and Edouard Didron. At the third republic, the restoration orders began to lessen and the last work of Lafaye, made between 1876 and 1879, marqued the end of an area. The works that occurred afterwards were created in a completely different spirit and with different people

Pełny tekst źródłaThis work studies how the strategies and behaviours of economic actors contribute to the political regulation of a sector, in particular the political negotiations and the decisional and implementation processes. A framework analysis is developed which looks at the phases of elaboration and implementation of housing policies, and it includes three territorial levels : local, regional and national. In addition, the research considers the different types of actions taken by the economic actors and makes a clear distinction between collective and individual actions. Finally, the analysis also considers how economic actors can play a role in the regulation of a policy sector, even when they are not considered as having a dominant position. The empirical data of the thesis comes from a comparative study of real estate developers in the housing sectors in the capitals of France and Spain. In the last ten years, both countries have seen the development of private real estate developers in the housing sector. The study demonstrates that in Spain the real estate developers are collectively organized and position themselves at the heart of the decisional process. In contrast, French real estate developers have a weaker organizational structure, destabilized by internal problems. As a result, French real estate developers do not occupy a central role in the elaboration of housing policies. Nevertheless, they do play a major role in the implementation process
Coblence, Emmanuel. "La managérialisation des musées : une analyse par les régimes de signification". Paris, ENMP, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011ENMP0011.
Pełny tekst źródłaKey cultural institutions, museums currently face important transformations of their activity: an unprecedented growth, a renewal of missions and the permanent quest for new fields. Existing research suggests that, to cope with these changes, museums are going through an unforeseen managerialisation wave, i. E. The rise of performance discourses and diffusion of managerial instruments and knowledge, prompted by new actors within the organization. Scholars characterize a form of cultural administration focusing on the efficient management of functions such as public policy implementation, democratization and economic value creation. Based on empirical research at the Centre Pompidou and the Musée du Louvre, the thesis highlights how this managerialisation is also linked to the symbolic activation of art (what art works mean) and the design of exhibitions and displays. The managerialisation wave is analyzed as an evolution in “regimes of meaning”. Through the case studies, we show that the organization of activities within museums structure competences to allow the design of exhibitions in a given regime of meaning. However, in specific projects (such as the Louvre-Lens project), the museum regenerates the way its collection is ordered, and break in this process existing boundaries in art history as well as usual organization principles. These projects are defined as explorations of a new regime of meaning. We model their management as a process of management of innovation of meaning

Pełny tekst źródłaThis dissertation in Urban Studies is concerned with working-class young people living in two central neighborhoods of Paris (France) and Barcelona (Spain), focusing on the way they socialize. Relying on ethnographic fieldwork undertaken between 2018 and 2020, this study gathers a large range of tools and data. Interrogating prejudices on youth socialization, usually understood as peer-(group) sociability embedded in the neighborhood, this study sheds light on the way in which Inner Cities working-class respond to gentrification and social mix. Focusing on young people’s strategies developed to answer gentrification, this research is in line with existing literature defining gentrification as a complex dynamic, rather than linear, one-way processes of displacement and substitution. The analysis of individual urban trajectories, and residential trajectories within the workingclass youth population, reveals a multi-sited urban belongings, that rely on local relationships and take root in the neighborhoods. While they may be imposed, these relations also arise from individual and family strategies to ensure a continuing presence in the city, influenced by local urban policies. This analysis of relationships to the neighborhood, based on four typical patterns, allows to understand how urban centrality plays a differentiated role for those who are "settled in", "arriving", "passing through" and "returning". Finally, situations of cohabitation in old city centers involve negotiations between different social groups. Examining these negotiations in Parisian urban public space allows us to question ways of managing cohabitation by articulating institutional policies and the infrapolitical practices developed by working-class youth. In sum, this study highlights how young working-classcity-dwellers are constantly negotiating and transforming the city, while at the same time the city itself is being transformed

Pełny tekst źródłaThe thesis analyses the formulation of French cultural policy since 1945 from the institutional viewpoint. The empirical work focuses on two cultural institutions : the Théâtre National Populaire (TNP) and the Centre Pompidou. The introduction formulates theoretical and methodological foudations and demonstrates the centrality of these two institutions in cultural policy. The first book is comprised of two parts. The first part focuses on the history of two decisions - Jean Vilar's nomination at the head of the TNP by Jeanne Laurent, and the decision to build the Center for Art and Culture (future Centre Pompidou) by Georges Pompidou. The second part studies in detail the political and artistic origins of these institutions. The second book places the emphasis on the different types of relations between the institutions and their publics. The third part focuses on the emergence of policies centered on the public, most notably the model of "public service", the invention of the audience as a category, and the creation of technologies defining the relationship between the institution and the public. In part four, a sociological analysis of cultural practices is used to evaluate the social and political impact of policies implemented by the TNP and the Centre Pompidou destined to promote a democratic access to culture. The Conclusion opens perspectives to study linkages between the public and the State trough an institutional prism. Created by a political initiative, these institutions represent privileged places to observe not only policy implementation but also policy formulation. The institutional dynamics of State intervention contribue powerfully to the definition of cultural policies, are at the forefront of the renewal of cultural practices and structure spaces of collective identity

Pełny tekst źródłaThe dissertation deals with the emergence in France of a new professional activity, soon named "design industriel", defined as the shaping of industrial products. It aims at explaining the transition from the tradition of "arts décoratifs", associated with craft and luxury, to a new model of design suitable for industrial production and mass consumption. The first part deals with two associations committed in the promotion of industrial shapes in the 1950s. Formes Utiles defended the idea of a continuity between natural, craft and industrial shapes. It focused on the education of consumers through selections of products in the Salon des arts ménagers, a commercial exhibition of household appliances. The Institut d'esthétique industrielle drew on the ideas of the American engineer Frederick Taylor and steered its action towards producers and managers. The second partanalyses the fragile establishment of design in France in the 1960s and 1970s. The new institutions of design (Centre de création industrielle, Conseil supérieur de la création industrielle) did not manage to consolidate the profession. Functionalism is questioned by critical theory (Roland Barthes, Jean Baudrillard). French industrial designers followed the Hochschule fur Gestaltung Ulm model passed by Abraham Moles. They described themselves as environment designers and as representatives of consumers. The information system on products developed at the CCI showed this ambition. Case studies explain the cooperation between industrial design studios and firms in the sector of household electrical appliances (Moulinex, Calor, Seb)

Pełny tekst źródłaIn the last decades of the twentieth century, contemporary museums and art centers have been very dynamic : redefinition, expansion and modernization. They transform to meet the needs of contemporary societies. In this evolution multidisciplinarity is considered as one of the most significant innovation. It contributes to the renewal of the museum concept and participates in the invention of cultural complexes. Our thesis aims to elucidate the emergence and dissemination of multidisciplinarity in society, art and culture. More specifically, the study focuses on the organizational, professional and cultural implications of multidisciplinarity in contemporary art institutions. ln the light of the experience of the Pompidou Center, it takes into consideration structures and operations, changes and evolution and the management of cultural programs. The study of internal features and their impact on multidisciplinary exhibition shows how the Center has brought together all of its departrnents, naturally centered on themselves, giving them coherence and visibilitv Furthermore, the analysis of export, transposition or rejection of the Pompidou Center model is undertaken by examining the Tate Modem and the Pompidou Center-Metz, which raises the question of the sustainability of the idea of multidisciplinarity as a social value. Finally, the thesis shows that cultural institutions dedicated to a comprehensive approach of artistics disciplines tend to promo te a multidisciplinary approach to art and culture in society

Pełny tekst źródłaEyen if Jean Coutrot insn't a key figure of the thirties, he is often quoted in the works on this period. This thesis, based on the study of his personal records, corrobarates the fact that he was a progressive manager and an engineer specialized in rationalization, though these usual descriptions had to be supplemented and qualified. On the contrary, the belief that he was a man of influence or a plotter has been refulted as hls involvement in the synarchic affair and the socalled mystery of his death. Above all, this search shows the contribution that Jean Coutrot has made to the intellectual innovations of that time. Thus, he has taken part in many activites (plan du neuf juillet) and has been member of different groups, as X-Crise, behind which he was the most important driving force, he was as well the author of a new theory, the transhumanism which has been spread through events, like the "entretiens de Pontigny" or groups like the "Centre d'études des problèmes humains »)

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis focus on the relation between the notion of centrality and urban form, both from a general point of view and for alternatives to automotive mobility in urban areas.Following a chronological order, a first part questions this relation from a theoretical angle by comparing selected works on the notions of center and centrality on the one hand, and on urban forms on the other. Leading to criteria for identifying centers, it also leads to consider centrality as referring to a gradual reality relating to urban space as a whole.Using these criteria and this definition, a second part provides morphological analysis of different spaces within the metropolitan areas of Washington, Paris and Shanghai. Highlighting a determining role of walking, these analysis allow a classification of identified centers according to how their morphological characteristics contribute to condition relations between urban amenities, both inside these places and in relation to their environment. But they also lead to the identification of a reticular expression of centrality, which is not inclined to be characterized by the only notion of center, and appears to be a potentially effective for alternatives to automotive mobility

Pełny tekst źródłaToday, medical imaging is a major component of the medicine development: image analysis and its deployment are a central research area at INRIA (French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation), pioneer in this field, in France and abroad. However, it is difficult to evaluate this kind of fundamental research because of its long-term realization. Moreover, given that the research at INRIA is based on cooperation, its role may be underestimated for the benefit of its partners. The historical objective of this thesis is to show the importance of INRIA’s role in medical imaging analysis through the example of EPIDAURE / ASCLEPIOS, leading team in this field. This investigation is based on three methodological paradigms: a bibliographic search, a synthesis from the archives of INRIA-Rocquencourt (Ile-de-France) and ten semi-directed interviews, conducted by us, with INRIA researchers directly involved in Medical imaging the analysis. The results show that since the 90s of the 20th century, the EPIDAURE / ASCLEPIOS project-team has been the founder of this field in the world. Moreover, this team is the origin of a new digital revolution, through the design of the "Personalized Digital Patient", proposed by its director Nicholas AYACHE, whose central role in this line of research is reflected in the excellence of published results, the wealth and dynamism of established collaborations in the academic, medical and industrial fields. The support of INRIA’s management to the EPIDAURE / ASCLEPIOS project-team is an asset of its success on the international scene

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis analyses the milestones of the development of a public and national policy for the conservation of the archives of architects in France in the last quarter of the 20th century and its effects on the history of contemporary French architecture. Covering a period from the late 1960s to the early 2000s, this work highlights the role of an institution: the Institut français d'architecture. On the one hand, the thesis analyses the modalities of emergence and institutionalization of structures in charge of collecting architectural archives in France by looking into the challenges of institutional competition, the stakes of the programmatic debate and the individual trajectories. On the other hand, through the question of architects' archives, this work questions the construction of the historical discipline in architecture. By drawing the portrait of a milieu, the study questions the autonomy of a disciplinary field divided between different educational institutions and between divergent ambitions. By examining the evolution of its collection and the way history was written through publications and exhibitions, the study establishes the place of the IFA and its Centre d'archives d'architecture du XXe siècle in the production of the history of recent architecture in France. Through the cross-referenced analysis of written and oral sources, this work proposes to consider three periods (1968-1980; 1980-1988; 1988-1998) during which the development of a policy for the conservation of the archives of architects defined an institutional, methodological and epistemological framework which renovated the way architectural history was made, taught and written. In addition to the institutional, administrative and political dynamics, the thesis highlights the role of pioneering personalities (André Chastel, Maurice Culot, Bruno Foucart, etc.) who have shaped contemporary architectural French history as we know it today

Pełny tekst źródłaThe research presented here focuses on a specific form of media, the cultural exhibition, considered in the specific context of the hybridisation of commercial venues (showing a growing cultural aspiration) and cultural venues (showing a growing number of commercial activities and commercial strategies). Commercial players are more frequently demonstrating cultural ambitions with the results that the line between business and culture needs to be redefined both in terms of procedures and socio-symbolic implications. Examples of the mixture of genres between the commercial and cultural are numerous and are to be found in places often encountered in our daily lives, places with an actual physical existence and established with the intention of blurring the lines. Two types of place will be under scrutiny: the shopping center and the museum. In order to articulate the different levels of this analysis, these hybrid venues will be considered on three distinct levels, starting with pure observation and moving to the social impact of these transformations: the study of the layout of the exhibition is at the heart of the first part of this study; the place which happens to be a museum (La Cité des Sciences) provides the subject and the basis of the second part of the study; the area made up of the north-eastern part of Paris, in which two of these hybrid venues of culture and commerce are located (la Cité des Sciences and the Millénaire shopping center) will finally open up the study to show the phenomena of transformation and circulation

Pełny tekst źródłaProjected for national and municipal museums of modern art on the occasion of the 1937 world fair, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris today is an international centre of contemporary art, known, too, by virtue of relational aesthetics brought forward by its co-founder (with Jérôme Sans) Nicolas Bourriaud. A monographic study of its genesis up to the contemporary site was yet mis-sing. This study examines the thought and projects that occupied it, based on central exhibitions and vast materials from the archives of cultural politics and arts administration: National Muse-um of Modern Art (1937-1977), the conception of the Centre Pompidou, Musée d’Art et d’Essai (1977-1986), Institut des Hautes Études en Arts Plastiques (IHEAP, 1988-1990), préfiguration d’Orsay, Maison de la Photographie (1984-1993), a project for Palais des Images/Palais du Ci-néma (1984-1998, with Cinémathèque, FÉMIS, BIFI), Site de création contemporaine (2002-). The study also focuses on its role as monument of the thinking of art’s function in society, from the context of an international exchange on modern museums in the thirties, up to contemporary debates of political aesthetics, particularly of relational art, the discourse of participatory art, ‘New Institutionalism’ and philosophical aesthetics. The study also provides a global view on the genesis of relational aesthetics and its principal critiques. Thus, the Palais de Tokyo is consi-dered as monument, a space of social memory of art following Aby Warburg and a theoretical frame based on Walter Benjamin, informing on its crucial role in the development of formal criteria of theories of art’s social role in the 20th and 21st centuries

Pełny tekst źródłaThe topic of the "ethnic commercial presences", resulting from the phenomenon of the globalisationin the historical centers, makes emerge a series of questions related to the current urbantransformation (space and économic/social); the “ethnic trade” are able to generate, at the sametime, attraction and repulsion, compared to the various factors; the research carried out startingfrom the indicated laboratory, the historical center of Palermo (Italy), analyzes these multiplefactors.Work is articulated: on the analysis of the significances and "locatable" perceptions of the ethnictrade, starting from the literatures and Italian and French studies cases, which see implied differentdisciplinary figures, the exploration of the urban transformations caused by the phenomenon at thespacial level on Italian cases (Palermo, Florence) and French (Chateau Rouge, Paris), analysis ofthe framework of reference of the policies related to the administration of the trade in the historicalcenters and individuation of preeminent sets of themes of the current debate in Italy and France. At the end of this course, where the topic of the ethnic trade is approached under various “points ofview” which have repercussions on urban space, the thesis proposes one construction of a "dynamicsystem of analysis", at the service of the townplanner able to make "appreciable" the differentialcharacteristics of these paricularies “kinds” of trade compared to the trade autochtones; at the sametime, the analysis wants to be a means to make emerge the gravitational "potentialities" that thesetrade express, in the optics of an employment in the strategies of valorization and reclassification ofhistorical center and the commercial systems which it contain
