Pełny tekst źródłaNorway and the EU have in recent years established ambitious goals to increase the share of renewable energy in their consumption. On account of these goals, a large-scale wind power development can be expected in northern Norway and Sweden. This development may be financed both by Norway and by countries with less wind resources in order to meet the energy goals imposed upon them. An increased power surplus is dependent on TSOs' abilities to transmit increased amounts of power through the Nordic grid. A scenario of likely power market conditions in year 2025 is used as a basis. The scenario has a high expectancy of new wind power as well as strong grid investments compared to the level in 2009. This thesis assumes an additional increase in annual renewable power production of 22 TWh, divided into 16 TWh in northern Norway and 6 TWh in northern Sweden. Results show that this amount of new power cannot be implemented without large grid investments. The Energy and Power Flow model is utlized to simulate the Nordic power flow for different levels of grid investments. Two grid solutions are proposed that allow the production increase while maintaining an acceptable state of system operation. The first uses DC transmission from Rana to Oslo in order to control power flow through Norway. An additional AC line from Kobbelv to Ritsem allows import from Sweden to the DC line. The second grid solution uses AC line upgrades throughout Norway ensuring two 420 kV lines from Ofoten to Kristiansand. Due to lower impedances in the Swedish grid, a large amount of the Norwegian production flows into and through Sweden. This solution requires a new line from Kobbelv to Ritsem and Rätan to Borgvik in order to solve resulting Swedish transmission congestion. Both grid solutions require a new DC cable from southern Norway to Germany in order to export most of the new power production. These cables require a number of supporting line upgrades in the region. Power producers schedule according to the new market situation, allowing a very high export during daytime and a low export during night. The increased power production in northern Norway and Sweden replaces other production. A high amount of gas and coal power is replaced in continental Europe. No hydropower, wind power or nuclear power is replaced. The DC and AC grid solutions allow European reductions corresponding to 19,3 % and 16,6 %, respectively, of the expected Norwegian CO2 emissions in year 2025. The cost of each grid solution is calculated to 22 760 MNOK and 19 310 MNOK. Annual system increases in valued socio-economic benefit outweigh the grid investment costs of each option by 3 300 MNOK and 3 370 MNOK per year of the period of analysis. The total cost of new power production must not exceed these values for such a decision to be socio-economically beneficial. Due to the high increases in calculated socio-economic benefit, a recommendation for further analysis is made.

Pełny tekst źródłaInfrared thermography is a non-contact method of identifying the thermal behaviour of various plant equipment and machines, including their components, qualitatively via pattern recognition and quantitatively via statistical analysis. This allows for the development of condition monitoring and predictive failure analysis. It is well established that optimized maintenance planning can be more effective when a problem is detected in the early stages of failure. For example, in electrical systems an elevated electrical resistance caused by loose or corroded connections, broken conductor strands and dirty contact surfaces, results in localized heating, and a unique infrared pattern when analysed leads to the location of the problem and an indication of its severity. In recent years industrial thermography has used infrared detectors in the long wave portion of the electromagnetic spectrum normally between 8μm and 15μm, due partly to the fact that these wavelengths are not susceptible to solar radiation and/or solar glint. A number of scientific experiments were carried out on test apparatus to improve the understanding of the impact of convection, ambient air temperature and relative humidity on resultant infrared thermal images. Two similar heat sources, simulating a hotspot, at different temperature settings were used to determine whether the hotspot temperature should also be considered in conjunction with the atmospheric elements. The need for these experiments has also been identified by EPRI (Electrical Power Research Institute) in the USA as necessary to develop international severity criteria, and it is hoped that this study will contribute to this goal.

Power System Frequency Control&rdquo
. Apart from system-wide global control action (secondary control)
load control loops at power plants, reserve power and its provision even at the minimum capacity generation stage, (primary control) are the fundamental concerns of this subject. The adjustment of proper amount of reserve at the power plants, and correct system response to any kind of disturbance, in the overall, are measured by the quality of the frequency behaviour of the system. A simulator that will simulate a dynamic gas turbine and its control system model, together with a combined cycle power plant load controller is the outcome of this thesis.

Abstract: This project intends to gather several interdisciplinary aspects common to a co-generation power plant. Driven by the increasing amount of distributed generation units operating on island or parallel mode with the network, some mechanical (thermo and dynamic) and electrical models were developed in order to represent the equipments usually installed on an industrial size power station. Based on this concept, the more convenient option was to proceed the evaluation through turbo machinery (steam turbine) driven by the energy acquired from the heat power on burning byproducts of industrial processes. The theoretical models were simulated with parameters obtained from a real case study. The results were then finally compared with real process information acquired from field research. In order to consolidate this computational tool, the simulator has shown efficient results on training power station operators on clarifying the impacts of load level on the other relevant variables on their processes

Pełny tekst źródłaindirect and direct field oriented. The field to be oriented may be rotor, stator, or airgap flux-linkage. In the indirect field-oriented control, the slip estimation based on the measured or estimated rotor speed is required in order to compute the synchronous speed. There is no need for the flux estimation in such a system. For the direct field oriented case the synchronous speed is computed with the aid of a flux estimator. In DFO, the synchronous speed is iv computed from the ratio of dq-axes fluxes. With the combination of a flux estimator and an open-loop speed estimator one can observe stator-rotor fluxes, rotor-flux angle and rotor speed. In this study, the direct (rotor) flux oriented control system with flux and-open-loop speed estimators is described and tested in real-time with the Evaluation Module named TMS320LF21407 and the Embedded Target software named Vissim from Visual Solutions Company.

Pełny tekst źródłaBecause power generation relies heavily on electricity demand, consumers are required to wisely manage their loads to consolidate the power utility‟s optimal power generation efforts. Consequently, accurate and reliable electric load forecasting systems are required. Prior to the present situation, there were various forecasting models developed primarily for electric load forecasting. Modelling short term load forecasting using artificial neural networks has recently been proposed by researchers. This project developed a model for short term load forecasting using a neural network. The concept was tested by evaluating the forecasting potential of the basic feedforward and the cascade forward neural network models. The test results showed that the cascade forward model is more efficient for this forecasting investigation. The final model is intended to be a basis for a real forecasting application. The neural model was tested using actual load data of the Bloemfontein reticulation network to predict its load for half an hour in advance. The cascade forward network demonstrates a mean absolute percentage error of less than 5% when tested using four years of utility data. In addition to reporting the summary statistics of the mean absolute percentage error, an alternate method using correlation coefficients for presenting load forecasting performance results are shown. This research proposes that a 6:1:1 cascade forward neural network can be trained with data from a month of a year and forecast the load for the same month of the following year. This research presents a new time series modeling for short term load forecasting, which can model the forecast of the half-hourly loads of weekdays, as well as of weekends and public holidays. Obtained results from extensive testing on the Bloemfontein power system network confirm the validity of the developed forecasting approach. This model can be implemented for on-line testing application to adopt a final view of its usefulness.

Pełny tekst źródłaThe thesis studies the evolution of the power generation system of electricity, during the Franco’s Regime (1940-1975). In this period, it began the construction of a unified system of exploitation, where the power installed was moved from 1.731Mw to 25.467Mw. The system was called "self regulation", allowing the coexistence of private electric companies, grouped around UNESA and the INI in its electrical aspect. However, the decisions and the power policy, and later on the energy, was directly influenced by the government. It discusses the importance of the primary energy sources (hydro, coal, fuel oil, natural gas, nuclear) in electric power generation. However, it is not intended to illustrate a comprenhensive explanation of the environmental impact and its consequences and effects long term. To sum up, all this takes place in the relevant historical context in a technical and economical perspective.

in the electricity sector by looking at the present situation and the principles outlined in Laws No: 4628, 5654 and 5686 and the Strategy Paper. The dissertation then examines the life span of TETAS by looking at the impacts of the strategy paper, liberalization procedure of the overall electricity market and newly enacted laws such as Law No: 5654 and 5686 in the short, mean and the long term. In addition, TETAS is examined whether it is a &ldquo
monopoly&rdquo
or not in Turkish Electricity wholesale market by calculating the supply concentration of TETAS using the Herfindahl Hirschman Index. Despite the studies on the establishment of the liberal market such as the envisagement of Law No: 4628 and the strategy paper, this thesis study envisages that it is still not possible to talk about a liberal electricity market. In addition, it is also concluded that the statements outlined in Laws No: 5654 and 5686 hinder the overall liberalization efforts since these laws are postponing the liberalization of electricity sector and making the life span of TETAS longer. As a result, liberalization efforts on the electricity market are unsuccessful in the mean term and TETAS seems to hold its dominance position in the wholesale market as a state-owned wholesale trading company in the long run.
