<p>Los trabajos realizados en la catedral de Sigüenza en el siglo XVI eliminaron y ocultaron en parte sus ábsides románicos. La restauración del retablo llevada a cabo en los años 2009-2011 facilitó el acceso al muro de cierre del ábside principal y dejó a la vista parte del diseño original, lo que ha permitido emparentarlo con obras del suroeste francés, de donde procedía el patrocinador y primer obispo de esta sede. </p>

El año pasado el mundo observó incrédulo cómo las llamas devoraban en pocas horas una de las catedrales más relevantes de la Edad Media, Notre Dame de París. Sus bóvedas, una de las tipologías más interesantes y controvertidas del gótico primitivo, fueron el modelo a seguir en monasterios y catedrales de toda Europa. En España, la Catedral de Sigüenza es el único edificio que se construyó siguiendo el modelo exacto de los abovedamientos de la Catedral de París. Mientras que las bóvedas parisinas han sufrido importantes derrumbes en el incendio, las seguntinas fueron destruidas parcialmente en los bombardeos de la Guerra Civil. Este artículo analiza los procesos constructivos y los medios utilizados para llevar a cabo esta difícil reconstrucción en plena postguerra, delatando importantes diferencias respecto de las bóvedas originales, consecuencia de la falta de estudios previos. Además, se han conseguido determinar partes originales que hasta ahora se consideraban reconstruidas.

El Maestro Bartolomé es uno de los más característicos representantes en Castilla de la llamada pintura hispanoflamenca. En este artículo se propone, por motivos estilísticos, la hipótesis de una intervención parcial del Maestro Bartolomé en el retablo de San Marcos y Santa Catalina de la catedral de Sigüenza, en relación también a una cita documental que sitúa a un pintor llamado Bartolomé en la villa soriana de Almazán en 1504. En algunas figuras del citado retablo se aprecia su característico estilo pictórico, bien conocido gracias a las últimas publicaciones referidas a sus colaboraciones con Fernando Gallego.

Abstract Stark differences have been noted in the ways Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora responded in 1680 to the arrival in New Spain of both a new viceroy as well as a great comet. Such comparisons have tended to hinge on the question of which of the two colonial Spanish-American writers was more “modern” versus “traditional.” Such valuative contrasts between Sor Juana and Sigüenza y Góngora implicitly evoke a commonplace but erroneous historical narrative that privileges the advent of modern science at the expense of poetry and myth. It is by acknowledging the shared affective goal of myth and early modern science in regulating human fears of natural forces, as Hans Blumenberg has done, that scholars can better assess the enduring function of Neptune for a poet like Sor Juana in an Age of Enlightenment. This reappraisal of myth’s function permits in turn a more dialogic reading of Sor Juana and Sigüenza y Góngora’s respective arches and their shared Neptunian response to the debates that raged in seventeenth-century Mexico City over flood control efforts and the value of indigenous hydraulic knowledge. In this reading, Neptune represents a European mythographic discourse of power over nature that serves to both assuage criollo fears of flooding while also displacing the challenge posed by indigenous hydraulic knowledge to Spanish intellectual hegemony in New Spain in part by replacing the Mexica god Tlaloc with Neptune.

This article attempts to provide new perspectives for approaching the study of Infortunios de Alonso Ramírez. Several researches about the text have given to Sigüenza y Góngora a character of strangeness to it, which would reduce him to the role of mere amanuensis, indicating that the discursive elaboration belongs to Ramirez. In view of that, I have performed a textual analysis, supported on the book's title and the final passage of the account, that I consider important elements that can offer a new perception on this issue. I base my research, additionally, on the study of its context of publication under the patronage of the New Spain viceroy, as well as the similarities of Infortunios de Alonso Ramírez with other contemporary texts.

Among the considerable manuscript production of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, the Bible moralisee stands out by the number of miniatures and by the conception of the manuscript itself. The composition and many iconographical themes recall stained glass windows of contemporary cathedrals, such as Chartres, Sens, Bourges, or Canterbury in England.<br>The manuscript of the Bible moralisee to which this study is partly dedicated, is located in the Treasury of the Toledo cathedral chapter in Spain. This study deals also with the duplicate copy which was realized soon afterwards. The interpretation and illustrations of the verses vary in number according to the books of the Bible. Though being one of the smallest biblical books, the Song of Solomon is given outstanding consideration, more than any other book in the Bible. The central theme--the espousal of the Bride and the Bridegroom, Christ and Ecclesia being its allegory--enjoyed a considerable success in medieval theology. It corresponded to the courtly love atmosphere of its time. Abundant commentary literature and the development of mariology made this book even more popular. About a quarter of the commentary illustrations are dedicated to the theme Christus-Ecclesia. Ecclesia, always crowned, holds the chalice which confirms her sacramental significance. In no other known iconographical medieval programme has Ecclesia such a position.<br>The question raised by the problematic around this Bible is the eventual intention being at the origin of this order which, without any doubt, emanates from French royalty. Has it been produced to enhance the prestige of royalty? Is it a pedagogical work intended for the education of the royal children? Was it meant to be a royal political gift? The Ecclesia theme in the Bible is the exaltation of, or an hommage to the Church, spiritual or temporal, by the French royalty of the thirteenth century.

En noviembre de 1657 nace Felipe Próspero, el tan deseado heredero de la monarquía española. Numerosas festividades celebran el acontecimiento. Dan cuenta de ello muchas relaciones entre las cuales la redactada por el cronista real, don Rodrigo Méndez Silva, que se propone servir a la corona exaltándola. Durante este periodo de celebraciones, don Jerónimo de Barrionuevo está en la corte y envía cartas con abundantes noticias al deán de la catedral de Sigüenza (donde sigue siendo tesorero). Por su curiosidad y su enfoque peculiar sobre los acontecimientos, transmite a su « amigo del alma » una versión de las celebraciones que dista de la del cronista. A Barrionuevo no se le « queda nada en el tintero, ni bueno ni malo » por lo que pone de realce varias dificultades, y no solo financieras. Así, con las festividades para el nacimiento del Príncipe, ¿ la monarquía justifica su potencia y riqueza o revela que atraviesa una crisis profunda ?
