Using the results of a larger study utilizing Cross's (1981) three-part formulation of the 24-item barrier scale devised by Carp, Peterson, and Roelfs (1974), this paper presents demographic differences in the perception of barriers to adult higher education. The scale items were tested with a population of prospective students at public institutions of higher learning, and the resulting six factors were compared against demographic categories of gender, marital status, a number of dependent children, income, and hours of work per week.

This study evaluated the organizational behavior and conflict resolution approaches used by public school heads in Calamba City's Cluster 9 Division. The study was conducted from April to May of 2023. Survey questionnaires were used in the study's descriptive correlational design and stratified random sampling to determine organizational behavior and conflict management approaches. The participants in the study were the school heads and teaching personnel in Cluster 9. There were 140 target respondents in all, and the cluster consisted of 6 public elementary and 2 secondary institutions. The researcher-made questionnaire underwent reliability testing using Cronbach's Alpha and pilot testing before data collection, with five experts validating it. The four-point Likert scale, mean, and Pearson r were used to assess the degree of organizational behavior and conflict management styles' application. An expert statistician who used thew the SPSS software received the collected data. The findings showed that school heads are proactive and skilled communicators with their staff. They use cooperative and accommodating resolution strategies, which is consistent with a supportive and less autocratic workplace. To improve the practices and utilization of conflict management techniques, a proposed enhancement program named Project CARP (Conflict Activity Resolution Program for School Heads in Cluster 9 Division of Calamba) was developed.

Integrated Care connects care providers across sectors and often from different agencies or organizations to deliver more effective, efficient and client centered care. Creating new or redesigned programs to achieve these goals typically requires new care models delivered by a range of providers who have varying experiences and mental models about what is required for effective care. Effective care designs must also consider factors such as variations in populations, available services, and resources. Thus, creating care models for integrated care can be challenging, creating conflicts that can undermine efforts to arrive at effective delivery models. Ontario Health Teams (OHTs), a new model for integrating care, launched in staged cohorts across the province in 2019, are developing new population health-focused care delivery models for specified target populations, and, eventually, for the 15 million people of Ontario, Canada. OHT leaders and staff come from a variety of agencies with varying care models, and, in some cases, limited prior collaborations with a mandate to integrate service delivery. Leaders in each OHT can design services to fit local needs, and their performance will be assessed on specified metrics. To assist in the design of new care models that meet patient needs and support providers from multiple and different agencies, a team from the ADVANCE program at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto have used Integrative Thinking approaches to help leaders to select and combine elements of opposing care designs to create more effective strategies for integrated care. Integrative Thinking is an innovative method developed by Roger Martin and Jennifer Riel that helps decision-makers to reframe decisions by shifting efforts away from seeking compromises among competing approaches, and, instead helps decision-makers to identify the core elements of each potential model and then reassemble these components into a new, even better design. Integrative Thinking thus helps decision makers combine seemingly competitive solutions into a stronger option through a carefully structured, facilitated process. This presentation will describe the methods used for Integrative Thinking within the context of integrated care, and home care programming specifically, to better serve local populations in different care environments.

In one eastern Kentucky county, the COVID-19 pandemic and related economic downturn ushered in increases in federal and corporate aid. In response, families with school-aged children distributed excess food to friends and neighbors and donated food back to pantries they had previously utilized. In-depth, semi-structured interviews illuminate how public-private food aid amidst the COVID-19 pandemic was distributed to and within rural Kentucky communities and who was left out. I introduce the concept of networks of care, which comprise local systems of distribution among family, friends, and neighbors that challenge reliance on market labor for subsistence while demanding constant work to maintain. This paper argues that networks of care demonstrate the need and an extent infrastructure for large-scale distributive politics that compensate for this ongoing care work.

Streszczenie:
Introduction: The study aims to describe the organization of one accredited school of Anesthesia and Intensive Care of University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. The analysis of the post-graduation period aims to measure the time-to-first job, the perceived challenges, what postgraduate residents choose as first employ, and the overall satisfaction rating of a cohort of residents completing their training until 2017 with the usual and standard training program. Methods: We collected organization and administrative records of the five-year program of the A-IC School of 4 cohorts of residents who joined from 2009 to 2012 and we performed a survey. We also analyzed the differences among school cohorts during the medical training. In the end, it was investigated as a reason to choose hub hospitals or not. Results: The focus of the training activities revolved around the operating room with a mean of 30.41 ± 6.6 (sd), months followed by Intensive care with 17.29 ± 4.49 (sd) months. Although 7.5% of the respondents were not fully satisfied of the school’s program, 89.7% of residents rated their training as adequate. In fact, 97.2% respondents reported they could overcome the professional challenges they faced after graduation. The multiple variables logistic regression showed a correlation among working in hub hospitals and training performed in university hospitals with a p value of 0.015. Conclusion: This paper describes the postgraduation period. This point should be examined as an integral part of the accreditation procedure. Knowing the satisfaction rate, perception autonomy, and which type of hospitals are preferred can measure the education training capacity of a postgraduation school.

Serbia, like most other countries in southern Europe, has struggled with high rate of antibiotic consumption. Previous results showed that most of antibiotics were prescribed inappropriately, mainly for influence - like illness1. The first short term media antibiotic awareness campaign (AAC) was held in 2011. and 2014. respectively. Shortly after, Ministry of Health, Republic of Serbia in November 2015 has started with public AAC simultaneously across all regions of Republic of Serbia.Apart from media, the campaign included education, producing national guidelines, as well as regulations. The education goals for public (preschool and school children, parents, pregnant women, students) and healthcare professionals (paediatricians, nurses, pharmacists, etc.) was based on results of analysis of antibiotic consumption in children from 2007.to 2014. which methodology was published previously.1 Media campaign included public relations activities, press conferences, billboards, printed materials, etc.In 2017. prescribing rates of antibiotics per 1000 children in primary care settings were decreased by 18% comparing to 2011., after first and by 12% comparing to 2014. when second short term media campaign was performed. After the third, government organised public AAC, prescribing rates of antibiotics per 1000 children in primary care settings were decreased by 6% for only one year (2017 vs. 2016) in all age groups from 2 months up to 17 years. Significant decrease of prescribed rate of antibiotics per 1000 children during 2017. was recorded for indication with policy of delayed or no antibiotic prescription recommended by guidelines. Seasonal oscillations showed that highest prescribing rate during the winter months (I and the IV quarter) of 2017. is in line with the lowest prescribing rate during the summer months (II and the III quarter) from 2007. up to 2013.We can conclude that continuous antibiotic awareness campaign supported by state government is the best way to achieve successful results.ReferencesBozic B, Bajcetic M. Cyprinus carpio is a freshwater fish that is in great demand by the public because of several advantages, including its high protein content and affordable price. Carp (C. carpio) cultivation requires artificial feed as nutrients to support its growth. One aspect of stunted growth is low feed utilization, this is related to feed protein digestibility that is not optimal. One way to increase the digestibility of feed is by adding probiotics. The purpose of this study was to examine the addition of probiotics to artificial feed on the level of feed consumption, the value of the feed conversion ratio, the retention of protein in meat and retention of fat in the fish of Cyprinus carpio. This research was conducted in May-June 2022 at the Laboratory of the School of Health and Natural Sciences. The results found that the addition of different types of probiotics to the feed can affect the level of consumption, feed conversion ratio, protein retention and fat retention of Cyprinus carpio fish. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Observations on each treatment showed different results. The results showed that probiotics had an effect (p<0.05) on TKP, RKP, RP, and RL. The best use of probiotics is found in P4 with the content of probiotic bacteria, namely Lactobacillus sp. Acetobacter sp. and yeast. The results obtained in the P4 treatment with a total value of 105.93 grams of feed consumption, 1.40 feed conversion ratio value, 65.68% meat protein retention value, and 187.59% meat fat retention value

There is scarce information about the institutional mechanisms creating the demographic portrait of sanctioned doctors published in the U.S. Office of Inspector General's (OIG) List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE). The current study examines the demographic characteristics of 1,289 physicians who appeared in the LEIE during a five-year period from 2008 to 2013. The results of a multivariate logistic regression found that sex, country of medical school training, and medical specialty were associated with being excluded by the OIG for a quality of care matter. Findings suggest the demographic portrait of doctors in the LEIE reflects the interplay between the doctors' behaviors and the actions of various agencies. A demographic portrait of physician violators,if one considers the mechanisms generating the list, can be useful for public policy recommendations and action.

IntroductionFood allergy is a major public health challenge in Australia. Despite widespread uptake of infant feeding and allergy prevention guidelines the incidence of peanut allergy in infants has not fallen, and prevalence of peanut allergy in school-aged children continues to rise. Therefore, effective and accessible treatments for peanut allergy are required. There is high-quality evidence for efficacy of oral immunotherapy in children aged 4–17 years old; however, few randomised trials have investigated peanut oral immunotherapy (OIT) in young children. Furthermore, the use of food products for OIT with doses prepared and administered by parents without requiring pharmacy compounding has the potential to reduce costs associated with the OIT product. Methods and AnalysisEarly Peanut Immunotherapy in Children is an open-label randomised controlled trial of peanut OIT compared with standard care (avoidance) to induce desensitisation in children aged 1–4 years old with peanut allergy. n=50 participants will be randomised 1:1 to intervention (daily peanut OIT for 12 months) or control (peanut avoidance). The primary outcome is the proportion of children in each group with a peanut eliciting dose >600 mg peanut protein as assessed by open peanut challenge after 12 months, analysed by intention to treat. Secondary outcomes include safety as assessed by frequency and severity of treatment-related adverse events, quality of life measured using age-appropriate food allergy-specific questionnaires and immunological changes during OIT.EthicsThe trial is approved by the Child and Adolescent Health Service Human Research Ethics Committee and prospectively registered with the Australia and New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry.DisseminationTrial outcomes will be published in a peer-review journal and presented and local and national scientific meetings.Trial registration numberACTRN12621001001886.

Streszczenie:
AbstractThe paper straddles the boundary between urbanism and sociology, working on the common ground of rights: public services and facilities (‘planning standard,’ according to the Italian spatial planning legislation) on the one hand and the care of the commons on the other, in addition to attempting to grapple with a third dimension of rights that places space and society alongside law. This methodological hypothesis is practiced from the critical analysis of one of the basic public facilities: the school. In the national debate on public services and common goods, school spaces are one of the recurring examples of how they have functionality as public educational services during school time and how they can also have other functional profiles as common goods, i.e., as civic centers open to the urban community during out-of-school hours. The theme of the hybridization of spaces and functions emerges with ever-increasing theoretical and empirical force in the reflections on so-called social innovation. Even if, in several cases, many people ignored one of the most beautiful definitions of planning standards by Giovanni Astengo (1966). He stated that, besides being a minimum, standards represent a minimum of civilization. The paper intends to bring attention to the complex value of spatial and social resources related to schools.

AbstractThe author charts the experience of working on the frontline public health response during the pandemic. The UK’s initial public health response to the pandemic comprised a delayed lockdown, shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE), insufficient testing capacity, and ambivalence about mask wearing. The pandemic’s first wave ravaged the health and care sectors. Subsequently, with experience and tight testing regimes, management of COVID-19 in the care sector was improved enormously. Hospitals reduced their workload to a bare minimum initially, followed by designing separate pathways to facilitate elective work, underpinned by testing and infection control. In addition to the elderly and frail, those on the fringes of society—for example, homeless, refugees, asylum seekers, and prison populations experienced high rates of infection and mortality. Nation-wide restrictions on movement were propped by an economic support program. The new school year in 2020 began amid rising cases, as people struggled to interpret confusing policies. Workplaces did not emerge from remote working till mid-2021 and remain a hub of infection transmission. The tussle between maintaining economic activity and education versus preventing the spread of cases continues, while the focus of the public health response moves to high vaccination coverage, rapid testing, and responding robustly to emerging variants of concern.

Engineering is positioned at the interface of science and society. In health care, it connects the creators, commissioners and users of information systems, shaping and navigating pathways leading to success or failure in supporting the quality and improvement of services. This chapter celebrates engineers, with stories of their focus, skill and dogged persistence. I draw first on Samuel Smiles (1812–1904) and his 1881 book, Men of Invention and Industry, a wonderful account of engineering innovation through the English Industrial Revolution, to draw parallels with innovation in the information revolution of our age. The chapter associates the kinds and groupings of data that are captured, processed, stored and retrieved with the devices and systems employed to do this. It describes how these have evolved, from the remote village life of my childhood, through school and university days, to my desktop today, in my now global village life, and the Cloud of computational resource that it immediately connects me with. It highlights how characteristics and limitations of devices and evolving computer programming paradigms have channelled both theoretical and practical developments, and determined their usefulness. It connects the discussion of models and simulations in the preceding chapter with data models, information models and knowledge models of today. The chapter tracks the parallel evolution of software and algorithm, from early empirical methods closely aligned to the underlying machinery of the computer, to programming languages based on theory of data and algorithm, tuned to different domains of application, seeking tractable solutions for the computational challenges they pose. It concludes with a discussion of the standardization of computer systems and methods and the transformational infrastructure of the Internet and World Wide Web. The closing reflection, which concludes Part One of the book and sets the scene for Part Two and Part Three, looks towards a new interface of science and society, as the anarchic transition through the Information Age leads into a reinvention of health care supported by care information systems construed and sustained as a public utility.

AbstractRoboethics analyzes the ethical, legal and social aspects of robotics, especially with regard to advanced robotics applications. These issues are related to liability, the protection of privacy, the defense of human dignity, distributive justice and the dignity of work. Today, roboethics is becoming an important component in international standards for advanced robotics, and in various aspects of artificial intelligence. An autonomous robot endowed with deep learning capabilities shows specificities in terms of its growing autonomy and decision-making functions and, thus, gives rise to new ethical and legal issues. The learning models for a care robot assisting an elderly person or a child must be free of bias related to the selected attributes and should not be subject to any stereotypes unintentionally included in their design. As roboethics goes hand in hand with developments in robotics applications, it should be the concern of all actors in the field, from designers and manufacturers to users. There is one very important element in this—albeit one that is related indirectly—that should not be overlooked: namely, how robotics and robotic applications are represented to the general public. Of the many representations, the legacy of mythology, science fiction and the legend still play an important role. The world of robotics is often marked by icons and images from literature. Exaggerated expectations of their functions, magical descriptions of their behavior, over-anthropomorphization, insistence on their perfection and their rationality compared to that of humans are only some of the false qualities attributed to robotics.

AbstractSweden, taken alone or in conjunction with the other Nordic countries, is commonly perceived as a nation where the protection of children and children’s rights has significantly contributed to building both the welfare state and a national identity. The adoption of legislation that prohibits the use of corporal punishment within the family in 1979 is often seen as an example of Sweden’s modernization and commitment to the welfare state and has made the country perform as one of the leaders in the struggle for children’s rights. This chapter looks back at the political situation that has allowed the introduction of a legal ban on corporal punishment within the family, which was built on the concomitant establishment of a new type of relationship between children, the family and the state and on the advent of a multicultural society.Children’s rights were redefined step by step as a consequence of fundamental changes in the role of the state in representing, protecting, and controlling children in institutions such as orphanages, reformatories, childcare and penal institutions under state and government responsibility as well as in schools and in the family. The direct disciplining of children’s bodies by corporal punishment and humiliating treatment was curtailed and prohibited in public institutions and in due time also the role of the family. The discourses evolved around different representations of children’s individual rights, that were considered equal to those of parents, and of children’s physical, psychological and emotional integrity. The discussion evolved from a focus on the disciplining of older children to a focus on the maltreatment of infants; as a result of that corporal punishment in public institutions and educational and care facilities was banned. In the early 1960s which signified the advent of the expansion of the welfare state and family support with parental leave and childcare, corporal punishment was only accepted in the family and the integrity of the family from state regulation of the upbringing of children and gender relation was questioned. The immigrant population whose views on child rearing were presented as a problem during the 1970s necessitated more direct state intervention and policy of child protection. This position conflicted with the overriding principle concerning respect for various cultural values which formed part of Swedish immigration policy during the same period. The values concerning raising children, and the rights of children in Sweden, were established as fundamental, as human rights in a democratic society and in parity with universal democratic human rights. The 1979 Swedish law prohibiting corporal punishment of children was partly a reaction to the transformation of a relatively homogeneous society into a multicultural society but also a result of a fundamental change of the scope and organization of welfare institutions for children.

This chapter considers the liability in negligence of public authorities such as government departments and schools. It commences by examining typical features of public authorities, including their statutory and public dimensions. It then considers the tests that courts have used to determine whether they can claim jurisdiction to hear cases involving public authorities—ie, the issue of justiciability. If the court can exercise jurisdiction, then the next issue that arises is the application of the Caparo Industries v Dickman three-stage framework for duty which, in cases of public authorities, requires paying special attention to policy reasons for either recognising or excluding duties of care.

Few studies have established the influence of different aspects of early childhood development and education (ECDE) quality on children’s outcomes in low-resourced settings in sub-Saharan Africa. We examined the impact of different aspects of ECDE quality on school readiness in a low-income context. The current study is a cross-sectional sub-study of the Tayari preschool pilot program evaluation. Baseline data were collected from public ECDE centers. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to establish predictors of school readiness, that is, 4-6-year-old children being mentally, physically, socially and emotionally ready to start and succeed in primary school. Teaching experience, availability of textbooks and school facilities were significant predictors; learners’ school readiness scores decreased with each additional year of teachers’ experience, and were higher where school facilities were better, and in schools where textbooks were available. On the other hand, school enrolment, classroom resources, head teacher support, educational attainment and teacher training did not predict school readiness. Promoting quality preschool programs has important implications for policy as it can lead to improved school readiness and later success for children in disadvantaged settings.

The World Health Organization defines a health care system as: . . . all organizations, people and actions whose primary intent is to promote, restore or maintain health. This includes efforts to influence determinants of health as well as more direct health-improving activities. . . . . . . (WHO 2007) . . . Such a definition covers a myriad of potential elements and factors, of which the dental element is but one. A health care system is not static: it evolves as part of the more general social and welfare arrangements in a society. As a member of a health care profession, all dental care providers need to have an appreciation of the wider aspects of any arrangements of health, its determinants, and care delivery, if only to understand how the pressures on a system may impact on their current and future activities. This chapter provides an overview of health care systems and provides the framework for Chapters 18–23. Health care systems are complex organizations that are in a constant process of change and evolution. Dentistry is one very small component of the wider health care system, which is itself part of the overall social welfare system within society. Dentists, as health professionals, need to understand the basic elements of the health care system within which they are working. The development of health care systems is an ongoing process in which all societies try to meet the health needs of its citizens. There is no society that has yet designed a system that meets the needs of all its citizens. Indeed, historically in many countries it was only the wealthy that were able to access health care in a society. As societies evolved, the pressures to make the health care system accessible to all its members grew. Mays (1991) has highlighted the political importance of health care, showing that many health care systems reforms were designed to prevent political instability and improve the fitness of army recruits. Indeed, the development of the then School Dental Service in the UK was brought about following questions in Parliament about the poor state of soldiers’ teeth in the Boer War.

After mid-century, university hospitals became more involved in research and the care of patients with very serious illnesses. This new orientation has created financial, teaching, and patient-care problems. In order to obtain access to more patients and patients with ordinary illnesses, medical schools affiliated with veterans’ and community hospitals. Many of these hospitals have become similar to university hospitals as a result. Medical schools experienced a serious shortage of facilities in their customary teaching hospitals after 1950. Many university hospitals had few beds or set aside many of their beds for the private patients of the faculty. Patients admitted for research purposes had serious or life-threatening diseases instead of the commonplace disorders needed for training medical students. The public hospitals affiliated with medical schools had heavy patient-care obligations that reduced their teaching and research activities. To obtain the use of more beds, medical schools affiliated with more community and public hospitals. The closeness of the affiliation has varied as a function of the ability of the medical school to appoint the hospital staff, the number of patients who could be used in teaching, and the type of students—residents and/or undergraduate medical students—who could be taught there. In 1962, 85 medical schools had 269 close or major affiliations and 180 limited affiliations with hospitals. Fifty-one of the hospitals with major affiliations were university hospitals and 100 others gave medical schools the exclusive right to appoint the hospital staffs. Dependence on university hospitals has continued to decline so that in 1975, only 60 of 107 medical schools owned 1 or more teaching hospitals, with an average of 600 total beds. All of the medical schools averaged 5.5 major affiliated hospitals, which provided an average of 2,800 beds per school. Public medical schools were more likely to own hospitals than private schools (39 of 62 public schools compared to 21 of 45 private schools), but they averaged fewer affiliated hospitals (5.1 compared to 6.0). In 1982, 419 hospitals were members of the Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH), of which only 64 were university hospitals. Members of COTH included 84 state or municipal hospitals, 71 Veterans Administration and 3 other federal hospitals, and 261 voluntary or other nonpublic hospitals.

The Children’s Aid Society (CAS), founded in 1853, is one of the largest and oldest child and family social-welfare agencies in the country. It serves 150,000 children and families through a continuum of services—adoption and foster care; medical, mental health, and dental services; summer and winter camps; respite care for the disabled; group work and recreation in community centers and schools; homemaker services; counseling; and court mediation and conciliation programs. The agency’s budget in 2003 was approximately $75 million, financed almost equally from public and private funds. In 1992, after several years of planning and negotiation, CAS opened its first community school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. If you visit Intermediate School (IS) 218 or one of the many other community schools in New York City and around the country, it may seem very contemporary, like a “school of the future.” Indeed, we at CAS feel that these schools are one of our most important efforts in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Yet community schools trace their roots back nearly 150 years, as previous generations tried to find ways to respond to children’s and families’ needs. CAS’s own commitment to public education is not new. When the organization was founded in the mid-nineteenth century by Charles Loring Brace, he sought not only to find shelter for homeless street children but to teach practical skills such as cobbling and hand-sewing while also creating free reading rooms for the enlightenment of young minds. Brace was actively involved in the campaign to abolish child labor, and he helped establish the nation’s first compulsory education laws. He and his successors ultimately created New York City’s first vocational schools, the first free kindergartens, and the first medical and dental clinics in public schools (the former to battle the perils of consumption, now known as tuberculosis). Yet this historic commitment to education went only so far. Up until the late 1980s, CAS’s role in the city’s public schools was primarily that of a contracted provider of health, mental health, and dental services.

Knowledge transfer to the society is undoubtedly one of the main objectives of Universities. However, it is important that these advances reach the youngest, many of them, future university students. Having this in mind, a European project around how incorporating ICT in school gardens was proposed (SCHOOL GARDENS FOR FUTURE CITIZENS, 2018-1-ES01-KA201-050599). In this project, both universities and schools, belonging to five European countries, are collaborating with public and private organizations with social concerns, environmental responsibility and sustainability. School gardens is a broad topic that combine technological needs for managing and control with education in values of environmental sustainability, social inclusion and citizenship, transmission of tradition, and the promotion of digital culture in both girls and boys from the early school stages. These last aspects are aligned with some sustainable development targets (SDGs), such as ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, inclusive and equitable quality education, gender equality or responsible consumption. A further challenge of the consortium is to extend the proposed approach to other schools throughout Europe with the same interests and impact, considering cultural diversity and climate differences.

Introduction: Syphilis is an infectious disease that has vertical transmission. If left untreated, it can lead to severe neurological problems, seizures, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and learning problems in the baby. Objective: To carry out epidemiological investigations to monitor cases of syphilis and treat infected pregnant women early. Methods: This study statistically analyzes and describes the cases of congenital syphilis in São Paulo between 2010 and 2020 through data obtained by the Information System of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN). Results: The total number of cases of syphilis during pregnancy was 81,401 and 30,665 (37.67%) evolved to congenital syphilis. From 2010 to 2020, the percentage change in the number of annual cases was 169.94%. Among the metropolitan regions, São Paulo had the highest incidence (55.67%). The mother diagnosis occurred during prenatal care in 59.59% of cases; At the time of delivery or curettage: 33.19%; after delivery: 4.67% Ignored/ blank: 2.26%; Regarding skin color/ethnicity there is 18.36% (ignored in the research); White: 44.13%; Black: 4.26%; Yellow: 0.16%; Brown: 32.87%; Indigenous: 0.19%. Data on the mother’s education show that 22.09% have incomplete elementary school; 10.93% completed elementary school; 13.19% have incomplete secondary education; 19.58% have completed secondary education; 1.06% have incomplete higher education and 1.18% have completed higher education; Ignored/blank: 30.79%. The data found that 17.34% did not realize prenatal care. Besides, 66.88% of partners did not realize treatment. Conclusion: Cases of congenital syphilis are associated with lower maternal education, and white and brown skin color, thus being associated with greater social vulnerability. The growing increase in cases of congenital syphilis shows a public health problem and failures in prenatal care and treatment follow-up.

With the increasing advancement of the Internet and Computing, digital information and communication technologies (DICTs) are increasingly present in everyone's life, whether at work, at home, in cars, or even in clothing, using wearable devices. Then comes the concept Internet of Things (IoT) which aims to interconnect objects with each other and with people through data transmission technologies and various sensors and actuators. With an infrastructure capable of managing them, these objects become "smart". In recent years, there have been increasing efforts to introduce IoT in schools, modifying not only its physical structure but also inserting it as a tool that can enhance interdisciplinary teaching in various activities. Thus, this paper aims to present basic IoT concepts for high school students from a public school in the city of Jandaia do Sul. For this, a didactic sequence was developed, using a smart home model, to demonstrate such concepts. With the sensors of the house, it is possible to demonstrate physics concepts, related to the students' daily life. At the end of the didactic sequence, a questionnaire will be applied to verify the learning process of the students.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Students’ satisfaction is a major issue in a language learning course. The main task of the specialized English course for kinesitherapy students is to provide language knowledge and skills, and stimulate oral production, using interactive learning techniques, reading and listening materials on human anatomy, and health care for students’ future careers. Methods: The aim of the research was to study students’ satisfaction with the specialized English course held during the Covid-19 pandemic (spring semester, academic 2021-2022). The subjects were 51 students from the Faculty of Public Health, Health Care, Kinesitherapy and Tourism at the National Sports Academy “V. Levski”. They completed anonymously a Questionnaire of Student Satisfaction with Speaking Classes (Asakereh, Dehghannezhad, 2015), consisting of 6 scales: Linguistic related items; Psychology related items; Socially related items; Course book related items; Instructor related items and Educational system and facilities-related items. A 5-point Likert-type scale was used for evaluation of students’ satisfaction. Students also completed a survey, including questions about their gender; age; type of high school they finished; preference for the type of education (online, face-to-face or blended). Results and discussion: The results indicate that student’s satisfaction with the English course was high, irrespective of gender or age. Students from language or science schools were less satisfied by language communication with their colleagues, compared to students from other schools (t50=2.39, p=.021). Most students prefer face-to-face education (54.9 %), least prefer online education (13.7%) and about one third prefer blended education (31.4%). Conclusion: The results of the study show that students need to communicate directly in person on professional topics, and that learning specialized terminology is useful and important to them.

The aim of this paper is to propose an interventionist approach for transforming a School Health Center (CSE) in São Paulo, Brazil. The Center is in a situation of crisis, providing precarious health services due to limited human and material resources. In the article we argue that the solution for the crisis depends on how it is interpreted. We present an ethnographic narrative constructed collectively by researcher and practitioners through data from interviews and a mini-intervention. The aim of this narrative was to provide a better understanding about the development of the activity of health care and education/research conducted at the CSE. As it will be argued this hypothesis is the first step towards a broader on-going intervention using a method called Change Laboratory, which is based on an Activity Theoretical approach. The narrative shows that the School Health Center’s object (primary and secondary health care) and the object of the Faculty of Public Health (research and education) have changed towards different developmental directions. The integration between these two objects is narrower than when the Center was first created, and this can be a key source of conflicts between CSE by the Faculty. The results suggest that a more effective solution to the crisis would involve the reconstruction of the object motivation (product service) produced in the activity.

Background: Child foster care is a much-needed service. It solves a number of urgent issues: preventing children from entering boarding schools, supporting biological parents, and preserving families. The development of family-based care in Ukraine has been slow since 2017. This issue is regulated at the legislative level, but there are certain gaps in the issues after the implementation of the decentralization reform, search, selection and training of candidates for foster care, supervision, responsibility for the child's health, labor and financial support of foster care. Objective: Based on the study, to find out the peculiarities of the functioning of foster care in Ukraine at the present stage. Methods: analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization to study the content of theoretical sources and systematic understanding of the problem; analysis of documents to study the scientific, regulatory and practical aspects of the issue; analysis of data on the dynamics of the problem. Results: The analysis of scientific literature and case study data confirmed our hypothesis about the slow dynamics of the development of family patronage services in Ukraine and the existence of a number of problems in this area. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate the existence of a number of legislative problems, as well as problems related to the culture and mentality of society in the field of family patronage. We assume that the challenges of today will change the value perception of this problem in a positive way. Key words: child patronage, foster care, biological family, family forms of upbringing, social policy, public organization.

Oral health affects the health of the whole body, so it is absolutely necessary that the strengthening of oral health takes place in parallel with health education in patronage care, education of pregnant women in women's dispensaries, children and parents in children's and school dispensaries, in reference clinics and dispensaries for diabetes and lung diseases. The task of the nurse at the primary level is to treat patients holistically. However, since formal education only touches on strengthening oral health, it would be necessary to formulate recommendations for strengthening oral health in all areas of nursing care at the primary level. The oral health group at the National Institute of Public Health plays a major role in the development of these guidelines. The article contains a short survey and explanation of the knowledge of the field of oral health and the implementation of strengthening the oral health of nursing providers at the primary level.

Due to an unprecedented rise in demand, in 2020 the Peruvian Ministry of Education implemented a centralized assignment mechanism that allowed thousands of students at various levels of education to move from the private to the public sector. In this paper, we empirically explore the determinants of accepting a public school assignment and, subsequently, remaining in the public system. Specifically, we exploit the randomness in the assignment of students to new public schools to causally estimate the influence of distance on the decision to accept a public school placement, and we explore its role in the decision to remain there. We also provide insights into various determinants of parental preferences. Our findings reveal that families care about distance from home to the assigned public school as well as the relative academic and peer quality with respect to their school of origin. Parents weigh these factors differently based on their familiarity with them. Consequently, experiencing a new school environment can alter the significance of specific attributes when it comes time to decide whether to stay at the assigned school. These findings offer valuable insights into how governments can strengthen the supply of public schooling.

This working paper discusses the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) pilot program carried out by the Haitian Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) conducted in collaboration with the IDB. The OLPC pre-pilot project was implemented at the Ecole Nationale Republique du Chili (ENRC), an all-female public school located in Port-au-Prince. Because the school year had ended before the OLPC pre-pilot began, the project was conducted as a summer camp entitled "XO Camp," held on June 30th-July 18th, 2008. The camp enrolled 116 student participants and the XO laptop, an educational tool designed by One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), a nonprofit organization headquartered at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was selected as the educational device for the initial implementation. Although the original intention was to create a context of one-to-one computing, the XO Camp operated primarily with one-to-two computing owing to an unexpected shortage of XO laptops.

McFadden, Alison, Camila Biazus-Dalcin i Nicole Vidal. Evaluation of a Gypsy/Traveller Community Health Worker service: Final Report. University of Dundee, kwiecień 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.20933/100001300.

Streszczenie:
This report evaluates the two-year Community Health Worker (CHW) service in Scotland delivered by a third sector organisation, Minority Ethnic Carers of People Project (MECOPP), which provided training to Gypsy/Travellers to advocate for their community on health and social care issues. The service, which was created as part of the Scottish Government and COSLA's joint action plan to address inequalities faced by Gypsy/Travellers , was designed with the intention to improve their health and wellbeing. Funding for the service was secured by The Scottish Public Health Network and the Directorate for Chief Medical Officer. The evaluation was conducted by the Mother and Infant Research Unit (MIRU) at the School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee, and covered the initial two-year period from August 2021 to August 2023. There has been extensive evidence showing that Gypsy/Travellers residing in the UK tend to face significant health disparities, resulting in outcomes that are not as favourable as those of the general population and other similarly disadvantaged groups. Gypsy/Travellers face high rates of homelessness, inadequate education, unemployment, poverty, and regular experiences of racism and discrimination . This profoundly affects their mental health and overall well-being. Additionally, the potential for lack of trust between Gypsy/Travellers and healthcare professionals impacts health seeking behaviour and health service provision, as there are also barriers in accessing responsive health services and preventative care interventions. Evidence indicates that community-based lay roles can improve healthcare access, reduce costs, and promote knowledge exchange between communities and health services through trusted individuals . This project aimed to evaluate the implementation of the Gypsy/Traveller CHW service, including barriers and facilitators, and make recommendations for its future scale-up. Objectives included describing the roles and activities of the CHWs, exploring the acceptability and feasibility of the service, identifying implementation barriers and facilitators, describing any modifications made, and examining the perceived benefits and disadvantages of the CHW service.

Streszczenie:
This paper analyzes the short-term effects of the monetary crisis and natural disasters in Indonesia on women's health and nutritional status, and activities to monitor and address these problems. The monetary crisis which was announced in January 1998 hit the highest monthly inflation rate of 13 percent in February. Natural disasters that have plagued Indonesia since early 1997, including droughts and forest fires, have been projected to cause famines and an increased likelihood of infant and adult mortality. The economic crisis also directly impacts millions of workforce members threatened by the downsizing of thousands of businesses and factories, in the form of job termination. About 38 percent of the workforce are women. In general, it can be predicted that the high rate of unemployment means a return to poverty, emergence of pockets of slum settlements in cities, an increase in the crime rate, less affordable food in urban areas, famine and scarcity in rural areas, worsening environmental health, epidemics of infectious and noninfectious diseases, cutbacks in public health-care budget and facilities, more school dropout, teenagers entering prostitution, domestic violence, drug abuse, mental illness, and suicide attempts.
