Streszczenie:
Enterprises involved in international business face transaction exposure to foreign exchange risk. This type of exposure occurs when an enterprise trades, borrows, or l?nds in foreign currency. Transaction exposure has a direct effect on an enterprise?s financial position and profitability. It is one of the three forms of exposure to exchange rate fluctuations, the other two being translation exposure and operating exposure. The aim of this paper is to assess the transaction exposure of enterprises in Serbia operating internationally. In addition to identifying and measuring transaction exposure, this paper explores the practical importance that enterprises in Serbia attach to management of this type of foreign exchange risk. We do not find significant differences between domestic and foreign enterprises in their choice of the type of foreign exchange risk exposure to manage. Although transaction exposure is the most managed type of foreign exchange risk, research has shown that, compared to foreign businesses, Serbian enterprises do not use sufficient protective measures to minimize the negative impact of this type of exposure on their cash flows and profitability. We expected that there would be a statistically significant dependence between the volume of enterprises? foreign currency transactions and the level of applied transaction exposure management practices. However, the results of our research, based on a sample of enterprises in Serbia operating internationally, show that transaction exposure management practices can be influenced by factors other than the level of an enterprise?s foreign currency transactions, such as the enterprise?s country of origin.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to establish the relationship between foreign participation in enterprises in Africa, their internationalization intensity and the associated moderating conditions. Design/methodology/approach The study utilized data from the World Bank enterprise surveys in 46 African countries across seven years. The hypothesized relationships are estimated using the Heckman two-stage pooled cross-sectional model to correct for selection bias. Findings The findings show that foreign participation in enterprises has a positive effect on internationalization intensity in Africa. While we observe this positive effect, we also found that there is a lot of heterogeneity that accompanies this effect based on enterprise size, financial performance and local market competition. Research limitations/implications The study contributes to the internationalization literature by showing that foreign participation in local enterprises can have a positive effect on the internationalization propensities of these enterprises. It also shows that the main effect is heterogeneous as it is moderated by other enterprise and environmental factors. Practical implications Enterprises should recognize the positive effect that foreign participation in them can have on internationalization intensity. Managers of African enterprises need to look beyond the investments into enterprises that foreign owners offer and take advantage of their foreign market knowledge and legitimacy. Discrimination in local markets could be considered as a push factor to internationalize. Originality/value While the study is not the first to explore the relationship between foreign ownership and internationalizing behavior, it is one of the earliest to show that the relationship is heterogeneous, and it provides some key moderators.

Conclusions according to the article. When forming the mechanism of financial regulation of business entities foreign economic activity, the peculiarities of such a regulation at the business entities level should be taken into account. The structure of the mechanism of financial regulation of business entities foreign economic activity is built based on its belonging to the general mechanism of enterprise management, the mechanism of foreign economic activity management, the financial mechanism of enterprises, and the monetary-financial mechanism of foreign economic activity. The structure includes financial management of business entity foreign economic activity as a set of target, functional, providing, and management subsystems, as well as a subsystem of financial levers through which the influences on foreign economic activity are made, and a direct regulation subsystem. Along with the key role of state regulation, the enterprises’ managers must make and implement independent decisions, develop their own systems of financial regulation of foreign economic activity at the corporate level.

The aim of the article is to study the peculiarities of the financial and credit mechanism of supporting small and medium enterprises in foreign countries with the purpose of identification of key areas for the development of financial and credit support for small and medium enterprises in Ukraine. The subject of the study is the foreign experience of financing small and medium-sized businesses. Methodology. The research is based on a comparison of financial and credit support of small and medium business in Ukraine and in foreign countries. The advantages and disadvantages of different support systems for small and medium-sized enterprises are determined on the basis of an analysis of the specifics of financing small and medium-sized businesses in Germany, the USA, the UK, Italy, Japan, and some other countries. The possibilities and limits of the application of positive foreign experience in this area are determined on the basis of a comparative legal study of certain provisions of Ukrainian legislation. The results of the study showed that the peculiarities of the financial and credit mechanism for supporting small and mediumsized businesses in foreign countries, which were studied, are as follows: the predominance of indirect support methods, provision of state financial help only on a competitive, turnaround, and paid basis; effectively functioning system of state guarantee of loans, which were provided to small businesses by commercial banks (guarantee from 60 to 90% of the loan); creation of a network of special banks, which serve small businesses at different levels; strong financial stimulation for small businesses in their innovation activity; stimulating taxation system and special depreciation procedure; creation of conditions for equal access for all entrepreneurs to information and consulting services (especially on taxation, lending, and insurance issues). Practical implications. The positive experience of financing small and medium business shows that the foreign practice of functioning of the financial and credit mechanism for supporting small business is not based on the fact that, on preferential terms, small enterprises can receive all the necessary financial and credit resources for their development and support small business at all costs. But this practice is aimed to create a favourable economic and legal climate that allows small businesses not only to survive but also to successfully develop. Correlation/originality. A comparative analysis of small and medium business financing systems is the basis for developing the most promising directions for the development of domestic legislation in this field.

An intensive competition in the sector of food processing industry sets forth the requirement of improving the processes of operating in the market. One of them is cooperation with the entities rendering business services. The aim of the paper is to analyse the level of making use of business services by the enterprises operating in the food processing industry as well as to assess the cooperation between the companies rendering such services. The authors used for this purpose the results of quantitative research carried out among the enterprises operating in the polish market. In result of thereof they have ascertained that, in general, along with the growth of the size of an enterprise there grows the scale of the use of business services, and it must be said that greater propensity to use business services is displayed by the enterprises with the share of foreign capital. At the same time, the assessment of cooperation with the companies rendering business services is not determined either by the size of an enterprise or by the share of foreign capital.

Streszczenie:
The research focuses on internationalizing social value creation of social enterprises taking the point of view of social enterprises’ adaptation to foreign environments. The paper aims to clarify what kinds of methods social enterprises use in order to adapt to the foreign environments in which they are creating social value. The research has been conducted as a qualitative study combining information from previous researches with new empirical data collected by interviewing four international social enterprises. The interviewed enterprises operate and are originally from different countries. The results of this study show that internationalization of social enterprises is partly different from the internationalization of commercial ones. Due to the differences in mission and operating context, social enterprises often face bigger challenges when internationalizing their mission than commercial enterprises do. Based on this research, it is obvious that social networks and partnerships are crucial for social enterprises when adapting to foreign markets. The partners can help, among other things, in learning the culture, applying for funding and in general recognizing the social value creation possibilities abroad. In addition, changing the legislation and rules in the host country, organizational flexibility and product adaptation play an important role when adapting to creating social value abroad. The earlier researches have quite rarely focused on the internationalization aspects or taken the international perspective on social entrepreneurship. Therefore, adaptation to foreign environments is a new topic in social entrepreneurship research. Hence, the results of this study help to understand the field of international social entrepreneurship better and contribute to theory building on the field. Furthermore, the results can be used as a tool to facilitate internationalization of social impact
Tutkimus paneutuu yhteiskunnallisten yritysten yhteiskunnallisen vaikutuksen kansainvälistämiseen ja erityisesti ulkomaiseen toimintaympäristöön sopeutumiseen yhteiskunnallisen vaikutuksen näkökulmasta. Työn tavoitteena on selvittää, millä tavoin yhteiskunnalliset yritykset pyrkivät sopeutumaan ulkomaisille markkinoille laajentaessaan luomansa yhteiskunnallisen vaikutuksen ulottuvaksi kotimaansa ulkopuolelle. Tästä syystä ulkomaisille markkinoille sopeutuminen on yhteiskunnallisen yrittäjyyden tutkimuksessa uusi aihe, minkä vuoksi tämän tutkimuksen tulokset auttavat ymmärtämään kansainvälisen yhteiskunnallisen yrittäjyyden ilmiötä paremmin sekä tarjoavat työkalun yhteiskunnallisen vaikutuksen kansainvälistämisen avuksi

AbstractIn Chap. 10.1007/978-981-16-5210-3_5, we examine the relationship between bilateral trade patterns and international technology spillovers. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-16-5210-3_6, we analyze how horizontal and vertical foreign direct investment (FDI) of multinational enterprises (MNEs) affects technology spillovers between themselves and firms in host countries. Both chapters analyze the issues from theoretical and empirical points of view. Each chapter shows that international trade or FDI is an important channel of international technology spillovers, but the effect on them is heterogeneous, depending on the type of trade patterns or the structure of FDI. In both chapters we measure technology spillovers using patent citation data.

Streszczenie:
AbstractThis chapter deals with gender equality in business law. For some time now, gender diversity has played an important role in the composition of dispute resolution bodies, boards of directors and supervisory boards, forcing the companies concerned to take action. The underlying initiatives of the EU regarding gender quotas in companies, as described in the chapter, are beginning to have an effect, as developments in the banking and financial sector also show. Although the European internal market and its fundamental freedoms do not have a direct impact, the European Union is strongly committed to the protection of gender equality, the economic empowerment of women as well as female entrepreneurship. This chapter explains in detail how forms of enterprises, financing options, education and networking can support women to become entrepreneurs and play a crucial role in business decision-making. Finally, the chapter describes the impact of international trade and investment agreements in this field. Gender mainstreaming now takes place in all recent trade agreements and opens up new opportunities for women. Although investment agreements secure and support foreign investments, which are needed to improve the welfare of states and their citizens, they also could undermine the promotion of gender equality in the investor state. These new changes could jeopardise the investment as national rules will be legally obliged to be changed.

Streszczenie:
The research problem was to determine the relationship between having an action plan related to innovations by innovative enterprises and the type and degree of these enterprises’ use of competitiveness factors. The objective of the research was to identify and assess competitiveness factors in innovative enterprises taking into consideration their strategic plans related to innovation management. For achieving this objective, the following research methods were used: analysis of national and foreign literature resources, survey measurement (observation technique), direct and indirect interview, research tool: questionnaire. The results were analyzed with statistical methods such as arithmetic mean, Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-square test (χ2), and measures of the association including Pearson's contingency coefficient and Cramér’s V coefficient were applied. The analysis of the results showed that the assessment of competitiveness factors such as innovativeness, quality, marketing and logistics activities differed with statistical significance depending on whether the firm had a long-term action plan related to innovations. The research also showed a relationship between competing using innovativeness and having an action plan related to innovations. However, this relationship was not statistically significant. As a result, the research hypothesis can be neither rejected nor confirmed. The conducted research proves that it is worth for innovative enterprises to develop long-term action plans related to innovations. Such enterprises boast a higher degree of utilization of competitiveness factors, which in effect may determine their strength and competitive position. It is also needed to mention that presented in the study results are only a part of the bigger one, concerning the level of innovative activity of innovative enterprises. At the same time, the research material presented in this article does not have a statistical character and cannot be the basis for the formulation of general conclusions. However, it may be the point of reference in in-depth research on these issues

Most Japanese enterprises are confronted with a rapid decline of business performance due to the long time recession of the Japanese economy. They gradually lost their competitive advantages in global marketplaces especially in the business domains of matured products including PCs. Most of them are forced to take prompt measures to respond to their business environment. For the past few years, we have been conducting questionnaire surveys repeatedly about B2B information systems in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The results of these surveys show clearly that their business performances have no clear relevance to the utilization B2B informatior systems. In conclusion, from a management strategy point of view, Japanese SMEs are classified into the following four types: (a) a group of high technical skills in special fields irrelevant to the utilization of information systems, (b) a new business model oriented group, (c) a manpower cost reduction oriented group, and (d) a foreign manufacturing subsidiary group. In the near future, these groups seem to polarize into group (a) and group (d).

This paper aims to study the determinants of innovation propensity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in five small non-oil exporting Former Soviet Union countries. Empirical analysis is based on the data from the fifth wave of the Business Environment and Enterprise Performance Survey (BEEPS). Innovation of SMEs is measured by five innovation practices: innovation in goods services, process, organization, marketing and R&D spending. For each aspect of innovation bivariate regression analysis is applied. Estimation results shows that experience of managers has curvilinear effect on the innovation in SMEs. Foreign participation, export orientation and competitiveness in sectors are important for innovation.

Streszczenie:
The article defines the prerequisites and main aspects of implementation of the compliance system in activities of agricultural enterprises in Ukraine. It has been established that the compliance system for Ukrainian agricultural enterprises is completely new, and there are practically no procedures for its formation and functioning. Using SWOT analysis matrix, strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the compliance system for Ukrainian agricultural enterprises have been identified. It has been established that the agricultural business is able to ensure the implementation and operation of the compliance system, which is focused on international compliance values. An algorithm for introducing a compliance system into the activities of agricultural enterprises has been proposed. Its implementation and observance will allow agricultural enterprises to minimize compliance risks, ensure their financial stability and innovative development, increase trust of customers, partners and investors to be competitive both in the domestic market and external one. It has been determined that compliance risk management is a cyclical process, whose main goal should be to minimize the identified risks using the development and implementation of appropriate control procedures and measures. In order to minimize compliance risks arising in the process of relations between agricultural enterprises and counterparties, an organizational model of their management has been proposed. The application of the methodological approaches presented in the model will allow agricultural enterprises to establish working relationships with counterparties, including foreign ones, and in the future to attract foreign capital and investment in their activities.

We employ the “social conditions of innovative enterprise” framework to analyze the key determinants of China’s development path from the economic reforms of 1978 to the present. First, we focus on how government investments in human capabilities and physical infrastructure provided foundational support for the emergence of Chinese enterprises capable of technological learning. Second, we delve into the main modes by which Chinese firms engaged in technological learning from abroad—joint ventures with foreign multinationals, global value chains, and experienced high-tech returnees—that have contributed to industrial development in China. Third, we provide evidence on achievements in indigenous innovation—by which we mean improvements in national productive capabilities that build on learning from abroad and enable the innovating firms to engage in global competition—in the computer, automobile, communication-technology, and semiconductor-fabrication industries. Finally, we sketch out the implications of our approach for current debates on the role of innovation in China’s development path as it continues to unfold.

Streszczenie:
Between the first and second quarters of 2020, e-commerce website traffic from five of the regions major markets increased by over 150%. The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed and pulled tens of thousands of businesses in the region to go digital. The impact and advantages of such digitalization are quite telling for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular. SMEs in LAC can diversify their customer base and reach 20 foreign markets when operating online, while those that operate offline can only reach from two to five. As todays digital economy becomes the norm, universal basic services such as education and medical care are also taking place online. Digital payments are critical to enabling this transformation at both domestic and cross-border levels. But many challenges still exist that preclude the broadening of digital payment use throughout the region from a lack of access, regulatory harmonization and affordable payment solutions, to a need for further public and private sector cooperation, consumer protections and an open, inclusive and interoperable payment ecosystem. In 2021, the World Economic Forum and the innovation laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank, IDB Lab, jointly launched the Payments to Advance Growth for All (PAGA) initiative to address these challenges. This initiative has convened a diverse community of over 100 public and private sector representatives to explore, through dialogue, how to best unlock the true benefits of digital payments in LAC. As digital payments continue to thrive and drive financial inclusion and economic growth, we hope this paper will provide a timely snapshot of the most pressing issues and highlight the importance of public-private and private-private cooperation to advance digital payments for all in an open, inclusive and safe manner. * The opinions expressed in this work are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the IDB, its Board of Directors or the countries they represent, nor of the MIF (IDB Lab) Donors Committee or the countries it represents.
