Streszczenie:
A new vectorial bondgraph approach for modeling and simulation of human locomotion is introduced. The vectorial bondgraph is applied to an eight-segment gait model to derive the equations of motion for studying ground reaction forces (GRFs) and centers of pressure (COPs) in single and double support phases of ground and treadmill walking. A phase detection technique and accompanying transition equation is proposed with which the GRFs and COPs may be calculated for the transitions from double-to-single and single-to-double support phases. Good agreement is found between model predictions and experimental data obtained from force plate measurements. The bondgraph modeling approach is shown to be both informative and adaptable, in the sense that the model resembles the human body structure, and that modeled body segments can be easily added or removed.

In this article the steady-state performance of a multi-plunger low-flow high-pressure hydraulic pump has been studied. The variation of the chamber volume with shaft rotation, along with the various flow and torque losses, demands a structured approach to arrive at its mathematical model. A bondgraph simulation technique has been used to model the system, where various losses are lumped in suitable resistive elements. Using the standard procedure, experiments have been conducted for a wide range of operating conditions. The trends of the various loss coefficients are identified. The performance of the pump has been experimentally verified.

The priority valve is considered to be one of the critical parts of the hydraulic system used in mining equipment. This article analyzes the dynamic performance of a hydro-motor drive system using priority valve through system modeling and simulation. A typical hydraulic system of a mining equipment is considered for the analysis, where a stable source of flow is supplied to two hydro-motors through priority flow divider valve. Bondgraph simulation technique is used for the modeling of the complete system, which is validated experimentally. The influences of some key parameters on the transient response of the system have been studied through simulation. The work presented in this article forms the basis idea for the design and optimization of the priority flow control valve for a given application.

Streszczenie:
Soft fingers contribute to dexterous grasping on account of the area contact and high friction involved. This paper presents a novel approach in modeling of soft contacts between soft fingertip and object using viscoelastic material and analyses its characteristics employing BondGraph Methods (BGM). The fingers are made viscoelastic by using springs and dampers. Detailed bond graph modeling of the contact phenomenon with two soft-finger contacts considered to be placed against each other on the opposite sides of the grasped object as is generally the case in a manufacturing environment is presented. The stiffness of the springs is exploited in order to achieve the stability in the soft-grasping which includes friction between the soft finger contact surfaces and the object. It is shown in the paper that the system stability depends on the viscoelastic material properties of the soft interface. Method of root locus is used to analyze this phenomenon. The paper shows how the weight of the object moving downward is controlled by the friction between the fingers and the object during the application of contact forces by varying the damping and the stiffness in the soft finger.

Streszczenie:
This article is aimed at analysing the steady-state performance of four hydrostatic drives and compares their overall efficiency. The speed of the hydrostatic drives is controlled by speed controlled vane pump, variable displacement flow compensated pump, variable displacement pressure compensated pump and proportional direction controlled valve. Bondgraph simulation technique is used to model the hydrostatic drive. The relationships of the loss coefficients with the state variables obtained from the model are identified through experimental investigation. Using them, at different torque levels, the performances of the hydrostatic drives are studied on their slips, torque losses and the overall efficiencies and they are validated experimentally. It is found that hydrostatic drive using speed controlled vane pump exhibits the maximum efficiency, whereas the poorest efficiency is shown by the valve controlled system out of the four drives considered in the analysis.

Streszczenie:
The computational analysis of an eccentric rotor is based on the bondgraph approach where the eccentricity of the rotor is analysed using bondgraph. This approach is used in this experiment to justify the displacements in shaft rotation which is occurring due to eccentricity introduced in the shaft. The computational analysis is necessary because by getting these results, a graph can be plotted which will give an accurate result of the bondgraph approach and it can be seen that by how much the displacement is occurring when the eccentricity is increased. The modelling technique used in this approach introduces two shafts connected through a hub and is provided rotor excitation by connecting it through an external source that rotates it at different angular velocities. The shafts are connected in such a manner that it has displacements in radial axis and the displacement is noted. The bond graph modelling of shaft and spinning hub is done using symbol sonata software bond pad. Simulation of this model has been carried out on Symbols sonata software which uses the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. The variation in the position of centre mass of rotor with change in various parameters such as speed, clearance is observed. The data obtained is used to get plots.

Streszczenie:
In the last few years there has been a major shift from petrol, diesel vehicles to electric vehicles and other alternate fuel vehicles, because of the limited availability of fossil fuels. High speed train is one such example of electric vehicles, that have witnessed an increasing demand in present times, specially in urban cities, due to its various advantages, namely, ease of use, economical, time saving, and comfortable. As a result of these factors, analysis and study of such systems, for their optimal performance and more economical operation, is of paramount concern. The present-day study is aimed to elucidate the effect of vehicle speed on the deflection between the concrete slab/subgrade contact, and track components. The interaction between the slab and the subgrade, affects the safety and comfort of the vehicle. The dynamic analysis of a three-dimensional, modal Bond graph model of the high-speed track components is carried out in this article. The concrete slab is modelled as a Euler-Bernaulli beam, and the beam is divided into 5 nodes. Two parallel slabs are joined with cement-asphalt mortar between them. The hence developed model is then simulated for train velocities ranging from 200kmph to 500kmph. The bond graph modelling and its simulation, is performed using SYMBOLS SHAKTI software.

Streszczenie:
Because of the limited availability of fossil fuels, a major shift can be seen from petrol, diesel vehicles to electric and hydrogen based vehicles in the upcoming times. One of the major chunk of electric vehicles currently in use consists of EMU and high speed trains, which has seen an upsurge in demand in urban cities because of easy, economical, time saving and more comfortable commuting. With increased frequency of service and more and more number of passengers adding on daily, these systems are more prone to fault (or failure) which may lead to loss of life as well as money. So to avoid fault or failure either high preventive maintenance strategies shall be adopted or redundancy shall be increased, both of which leads to an increased cost. Fault is an unwanted, measurable, non-measurable, monitarable, non-monitarable, susceptible change in characteristics of system (running or at rest), which may or may not result in the failure of the system. Fault diagnosis approach so used involves an interaction of mathematical as well as physical model. Sensors are placed at optimum locations in the system which then interacts with the mathematical functions defining the system, and any inconsistency in the values obtained from output function so observed will be monitored and controlled. Also if a fault occurs, what would be its optimum path of travel is also figured out i.e which components are most likely to fail because of presence of certain fault in certain component. Using bondgraph, working on the concept of transfer of power (energy is conserved), which is sensitive to any form of spike in energy (either positive or negative), one can fairly predict the possibility of fault and its effect on the consecutive system working online with the help of sensors and ARRs (mathematical function). Thus one can isolate a fault before it becomes critical at subsequent stages. Same can be done in the model of traction system of an EMU which mainly comprises of power supply line, pantograph, transformer, induction motor, gearbox, and wheel. Thus a model is generated on a bondgraph which is simulated and analysed under normal working condition. Also its ARRs are also derived which when compared with the online system (or model) can help in determining the possible faults in the system.

The traditional modeling approach in engineering is mathematical, but thanks to the advances in computer technology it is now possible for the practical engineer to model physical systems in a more “user friendly” way. This paper will demonstrate the power and simplicity of Bond Graphs in modelling technique. Bond Graph modelling was original developed in the late 1950s by the late Professor Henry M. Paynter of MIT. Professor Paynter acted well before his time as the main advantage of his creation, other than the modeling insight that it provides and the ability of effectively dealing with mechatronics, came into fruition only with the recent advent of modern computer technology and the tools derived as a result of it, including symbolic manipulation, MATLAB and SIMULINK and the simulation package 20sim, see: www.20sim.com , which allows direct input of the Bond Graph.

Streszczenie:
Delivery of optimized fuel injection pressure to combustion chamber of an engine assembly leads to optimum torque and horsepower. Contaminant free supply of fuel without compromising on volume flow rate is the most important design requirement. Incorporation of very fine fuel filters having less than 10 micron rating reduces volume flow rate at the injection nozzles whereas fuel filter with larger pore size stabilize the injection pressure but may result into failure of fuel injection pump assembly due to scuffing produced by the fuel contaminant between the plunger and sleeve of hydraulic head of fuel injection pump. The fuel flows from fuel tank through low-pressure injection line, primary and secondary fuel filters, fuel transfer pump, fuel injection pump, and high-pressure injection line and injector nozzles. Modeling and simulation of volume flow rate vis-a`-vis fuel injection pressure together with micro-porous fuel filter poses a formidable challenge. Bondgraph method (BGM) is ideally suited for the modeling and simulation of such a multi-domain dynamic system. The aim of this research is to apply BGM to model and simulate the optimized fuel injection pressure and analysis of filters with different micro-porosity and their effect on volume flow rate. Fuel filter porosity, inlet and outlet pressures of transfer pump, fuel injection pump and low/high pressure injection line pressure have been determined experimentally. These experimentally determined parameters are then used as input in our Bondgraph model for the dynamic analysis of fuel injection pressure incorporating micro-porous filters.

Streszczenie:
Abstract A theoretical framework is proposed by which the effect of tolerances can be analyzed. Especially it focuses on the influence of clearances on the dynamic behavior of mechanisms. As opposed to previous publications, where a bondgraph formulation was used, this paper uses a finite element formulation in order to simulate the dynamic behavior under the influence of tolerances and other physical effects. The finite element formulation that has been selected for this work has two major advantages when compared to a bondgraph formulation. The first important advantage is that the method is analytical to a great extent. As a result, no numerically derived derivatives will exist, hence not leading to numeric inaccuracies. The second advantage is that small numbers can be separated from large numbers allowing to separate tolerances from the nominal path, resulting in faster simulations. The paper describes how a geometric model, including its tolerances, can be transformed into a corresponding finite element model that on its part consists of submodels. Based on this model, simulations can be performed which can provide insight in the dynamic behavior of the mechanism. The paper details on how geometric tolerances (such as form, orientation, position as well as size and clearances), with the focus on clearances, can be accounted for in a finite element model.

Streszczenie:
In this paper, an extended Lagrangian formalism for general class of dynamical systems with dissipative, non-potential fields is formulated with the aim to obtain invariants of motion for such systems. A new concept of umbra-time has been introduced for this extension. D’Alembert basic idea of allowing displacement, when the real time is frozen is conveniently expressed in the terms of umbra-time. This leads to a peculiar form of equations, which is termed as umbra-Lagrange’s equations. A variational or least action doctrine leading to the proposed form of equation is introduced, which is based on recursive minimization of functionals. The concept of umbra-time extends the classical manifold over which the system evolves. The extension of Noether’s theorem in this extended space has been presented. The idea of umbra time is then used to propose the concept of umbra-Hamiltonian, which is used along with the extended Noether’s theorem to get into the dynamics of the dynamical systems with symmetries. In the mathematical models of dynamical system, the equations for the system can be formulated in a systematic way from the bondgraph representation as bondgraph representation of a system may be constructed in a total abstraction from the mathematical models of the dynamical system. In present paper, bond graphs are conveniently used to arrive at umbra-Lagrangian of the system. As a case study, we present a dynamic analysis of an electro-mechanical system through the proposed extended Lagrangian Formulation. The major objective of this paper is an analysis of symmetries of an electro-mechanical system comprising of an externally and internally damped, symmetric, elastic rotor driven by a three-phase induction motor, for which the umbra-Lagrangian remains unchanged under two families of transformations. The behaviour of limiting dynamics is obtained and validated through simulation studies.
