The need for automated identification of a disease makes the issue of medical biometrics very current in our society. Not all biometric tools available provide real-time feedback. We introduce gas discharge visualization (GDV) technique as one of the biometric tools that have the potential to identify deviations from the normal functional state at early stages and in real time. GDV is a nonintrusive technique to capture the physiological and psychoemotional status of a person and the functional status of different organs and organ systems through the electrophotonic emissions of fingertips placed on the surface of an impulse analyzer. This paper first introduces biometrics and its different types and then specifically focuses on medical biometrics and the potential applications of GDV in medical biometrics. We also present our previous experience with GDV in the research regarding autism and the potential use of GDV in combination with computer science for the potential development of biological pattern/biomarker for different kinds of health abnormalities including cancer and mental diseases.

Streszczenie:
Background: The use of face biometrics is very prevalent in forensic investigations for the identification of the perpetrators of crime due to the excessive use of CCTV footage that is usually available at the scene of a crime in urban settings. Ear biometric analysis of ear prints is also in vogue as a result of research advancements in the fields of biometrics. Keeping in view this scenario, it is the need of the hour to analyze the forensic value of this type of forensic evidence and compare these two tools of forensic biometrics. Purpose: To analyze and compare the forensic value of biometric analysis of face and ear print recognitions in the Punjabi population, in Punjab, Pakistan. Study design: This study is conducted by collecting the data from 100 samples of different people belonging to different backgrounds from different cities in Punjab, Pakistan after their informed consent and ethical approval. Their facial photographs and ear prints were collected for proceeding biometric analysis to form a database for comparison and recognition. Method and materials: After collecting data, the comparison is done to see whether we can recognize a person by only using ear print analysis or face biometrics after running a search in our own created database. Moreover, we also calculated the forensic values of this biometric analysis separately on its own and combined these two i.e., face and ear biometrics. . Furthermore, standard deviation, F-statistics, and Chitest p-value were also applied to see the power of discrimination of these two biometric methods of identification Results: In 100 samples, face recognition was proved to be 80 % recognition of identity as compared with only ear prints which showed 56 % accuracy in identifying the individuals who participated in this research. Furthermore, the combined result of both face recognition and ear biometrics showed 90 % recognition of the identity of the individuals. Statistical analysis proved that biometric analysis of the face for recognition of the identity of individuals was more valued as compared with ear print recognition. Also, it was found that if we combine these two methods of biometrics, the forensic value of recognition of individuals has increased and showed good results. Conclusion: The forensic value of biometric evidence of face and ear recognition is a very important tool for the forensic identification of individuals in crime scene investigations. Biometric facial recognition is better as compared to only ear print biometric analysis. Furthermore, using face and ear biometrics enhances the forensic value of biometric analysis. Streszczenie:
With high-paced growth in biometrics, and its easy availability to capture various biometric features, it is emerging as one of the most valuable technologies for multifactor authentication to verify a user’s identity, for data security. Organizations encourage their members to use biometrics, but they are hesitant to use them due to perceived security risks. Because of its low usage rate, many medium and small segment organizations find it unfeasible to deploy robust biometric systems. We propose a server-specific add-on biometric security layer model (MoLaBSS) to enhance confidence in the usage of biometrics. We tested this model via a biometric mobile app, and the survey showed a favorable response of 80%. The innovative mobile app was tested for its usability and got a score of more than 71%. For test tool reliability, we examined the equal error rate (EER) of the app and got a reasonably low score of 6%. The results show good potential of this framework to enhance users’ confidence level in the usage of biometrics. Higher usage rates may make deployment of biometrics more cost-effective for many organizations to decrease their information security risk.

Background: The Scanning Ears for Child Health (SEARCH) system is a biometric patient identification tool which uses a pattern recognition algorithm to translate an image of the ear into a unique identifier. If integrated into an electronic medical records (EMR) system, it would provide a patient identification solution that replaces unreliable paper, under-five card (UFC), or number-based identifiers. This study aims to understand the relative advantage of the biometric system, the sociocultural and pragmatic compatibility, and the extent of UFC deterioration over time. Methods: Interviews on impressions of the novel biometric patient identification tool were conducted in urban and rural settings in Zambia. Focus group discussions included 59 participants and key informant interviews included 5 healthcare workers and 2 government officials. Transcripts were coded into thematic categories for analysis. We sought to understand 1) the perceived relative advantage of a biometric system over the traditional UFCs among Zambian mothers, 2) the perceived sociocultural compatibility of a biometric system in the healthcare setting, and 3) pragmatic compatibility of the proposed system. Results: We found that the current UFC system presents issues for continuity of care and quality of data management, therefore posing disadvantages relative to the proposed system. Sociocultural and pragmatic barriers to acceptance included the existing fear of Satanism and electrical power issues throughout Zambia. Mothers and healthcare workers expressed that adoption of the biometric system could be successful given efforts to sensitize the community. Conclusions: Switching to an EMR backed by biometric identification would fill a critical gap in Zambian healthcare information systems and has numerous perceived advantages in both urban and rural settings. We determine that strategies for implementation should be localized, context informed, and conducted by trusted community members with knowledge of best approaches to diffusing information and a deep understanding of the novel biometric system.

The term biometrics is derived from the Greek words: bio (life) and metrics (to measure). “Biometric technologies” are defined as automated methods of verifying or recognizing the identity of a living person based on a physiological or behavioral characteristic. Several techniques and features were used over time to recognize human beings several years before the birth of Christ. Today, this research field has become very employed in many applications such as security applications, multimedia applications and banking applications. Also, many methods have been developed to strengthen the biometric accuracy and reduce the imposture errors by using several features such as face, speech, iris, finger vein, etc. From a security purpose and economic point of view, biometrics has brought a great benefit and has become an important tool for governments and institutions. However, citizens are expressing their thorough worry, which is due to the freedom limitations and loss of privacy. This paper briefly presents some new technologies that have recently been proposed in biometrics with their levels of reliability, and discusses the different social and ethic problems that may result from the abusive use of these technologies.

Streszczenie:
The hypothesis of this work is that through establishing the background variation of ultrasonographic fetal biometry measurements and elucidating the parameters that influence these measurements, a new Fetal Ultrasound Biometry Quality (FUB-Q) image-scoring tool can be created which will be reproducible and able to quantify the accuracy of fetal measurements. Six studies are included, each answering a specific research question. The aim of the first study was to ascertain whether pre-existing image quality scoring methods reflect measurement accuracy and reproducibility. It demonstrated that during the course of an exercise where there was demonstrable improvement in the consistency of measurements performed - by a group of sonographers, this was not mirrored by the pre-existing image scoring system. The aim of the second study was to establish the intra- and inter- observer variability of fetal biometry measurements throughout pregnancy by expert sonographers. This study demonstrated that ultrasound variability of fetal biometry increases with advancing gestation when expressed in measurement values, but is constant as a percentage of the fetal dimensions or when reported as a z score. Calliper placement was the major component of the overall variability. The values from this study served as the background variability, "reference standard", for the FUB-Q tool. The third study had two aims. The first was to establish how 3D scanning performs compared to conventional, real-time, 20. The second aim was to assess whether off-line 3D volume manipulation can be used as a tool to substitute real-time 20 ultrasound for the subsequent studies. It demonstrated that measurements using 3D volume acquisitions exhibit good agreement with real-time 20 scanning, with no systematic error but with a higher random error. However, it also demonstrated that 3D scanning is slower to perform and, similar to real-time 2D, it is not always possible to acquire a 3D volume from a desired orientation. Furthermore, not all 3D volume acquisitions were amenable to reconstruction. However, this study showed that saved 3D volumes can be used as a mean to store large volumes of data for later detailed analysis. The aim of the fourth study was to create the FUB-Q scoring tool. This was done by establishing the difference in measurement resulting from optimal and different forms of suboptimal images in a systematic fashion. For any . t " given image, and its derived measurement, the observer inserts in the model the various image scoring point parameters. The model then gives a prediction about the confidence interval within which the optimal, "gold standard", measurement should be. The aim of the fifth study was to validate on an independent test set the predictive ability of the newly developed FUB-Q scoring tool. It demonstrated that the FUB-Q tool can correctly predict the confidence interval within which measurements recorded from correctly acquired images should be in relation to measurements acquired from incorrectly acquired ones. The aim of the sixth, and final , study was to evaluate the reproducibility of obtaining the relevant scores for the FUB-Q tool. It demonstrated that the FUB-Q tool has good intra- and inter- observer reproducibility and is a reliable system for assessing the quality of fetal biometry based on ultrasound images. In conclusion, the FUB-Q tool could be a useful system used for audit of clinical practice and quality control as well as for training purposes .

Streszczenie:
The gait of a person is often used as a biometric tool to identify or classify a person based on gender and age. Because of its ability to track a person from afar, gait recognition has found use in a variety of fields, including forensics, surveillance, and health monitoring departments. Biometric systems is a rapidly emerging area that necessitates the development of new methods to address problems that have plagued previous approaches. Human gait is a less-explored region in the field of biometrics. In this Project, two different types of gait datasets have been reported and presented. The FP (First Person) data carrying the camera motion collected from the movement of the volunteer's body and the TP (Third Person) data captured from a distant view were recorded at the same time. A total of 24 subjects (15 males and 9 females) are included in the dataset. The discussion is extended to include a comparison of the results obtained using TP and FP data. This report also provides an extensive survey of the stages involved in the framework of gait recognition by analysing the different methods used in each stage along with the description of the feature extraction process and the state-of-the-art techniques used in appearance-based and human-pose-based methods. Moreover, a brief comparative description on the recent data reduction or feature selection methods has been provided. Furthermore, it will provide a first-hand knowledge about the public datasets that is motion capture databases and the datasets simply used for human gait recognition. In comparison to other biometric methods, gait recognition has a lot of potential for future work, Researchers working in the fields of biometrics, human pose estimation, monitoring, human gait recognition and analysis will benefit from the review given in the survey.

Some sexually motivated serial killers target victims on the basis of appearance. Therefore, multiple victims of a single serial killer are likely to have some facial features and geometries that are similar. The current research was undertaken to propose a technique, termed Face Similarity Linkage (FSL), to evaluate whether victims of a serial killer have statistically more similar facial measurements than a randomly chosen person of the same gender. To test this, three of Ted Bundy’s victims were randomly selected and anatomical landmarks were located and measured to produce proportionality indices of their faces. A random subject from an online database was used as a comparison. The results showed there were no statistically significant differences between the three of Bundy’s victims; however, there was significant difference between eleven of the seventeen facial measurements of Bundy’s victims when compared to a random person. This research serves as a proof of concept that, with more advanced means of data collection, FSL may be a useful tool for law enforcement for linking serial homicides. The current method is relatively novel, and in need of expert systems interfaces to improve speed and application, which is outlined in the current study. Streszczenie:
Facial Ageing (FA) is a very fundamental issue, as ageing in general, is part of our daily life process. FA is used in security, finding missing children and other applications. It is also a form of Facial Recognition (FR) that helps identifying suspects. FA affects several parts of the human face under the influence of different biological and environmental factors. One of the major facial feature changes that occur as a result of ageing is the appearance and development of wrinkles. Facial wrinkles are skin folds; their shapes and numbers differ from one person to another, therefore, an advantage can be taken over these characteristics if a system is implemented to extract the facial wrinkles in a form of maps. This thesis is presenting a new technique for three-dimensional facial wrinkle pattern information that can also be utilised for biometric applications, which will back up the system for further increase of security. The procedural approaches adopted for investigating this new technique are the extraction of two-dimensional wrinkle maps of frontal human faces for digital images and the design of three-dimensional wrinkle pattern formation system that utilises the generated wrinkle maps. The first approach is carried out using image processing tools so that for any given individual, two wrinkle maps are produced; the first map is in a binary form that shows the positions of the wrinkles on the face while the other map is a coloured version that indicates the different intensities of the wrinkles. The second approach of the 3D system development involves the alignment of the binary wrinkle maps on the corresponding 3D face models, followed by the projection of 3D curves in order to acquire 3D representations of the wrinkles. With the aid of the coloured wrinkle maps as well as some ageing parameters, simulations and predictions for the 3D wrinkles are performed.

In the European context of reducing pesticide use, knowledge of the effects of insecticides on natural enemies is an innovative and promising approach for the development of new Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. European earwigs Forficula auricularia (Linnaeus) are considered as efficient predators in apple orchards and contribute to the biological control of aphids, leaf rollers and psyllids.Earwigs were sampled in apple orchards in Provence, (South-Eastern France), managed under contrasting strategies: organic, integrated pest management (IPM), conventional, or untreated orchards. Our study underlines the differences in metabolic pathway responses in F. auricularia populations influenced by their historic management strategies. In particular, we have shown that earwigs collected in conventional orchard exhibited lower mortality and higher enzyme activities (glutathion-S-transferases and carboxylesterases) involved in detoxification, compare to organic orchard. A decrease in sensitivity of the acetylcholinesterase (the molecular target of OP insecticides, involved in the nervous system functioning) was also observed in earwigs pre-exposed in the conventional orchard with higher sensitivity of AChE in male compared to female earwigs. We have investigated the induction of Hsp70s as an efficient defense mechanism, which could play an important role in tolerance to insecticide. Our results underlined the differences previously observed depending on management strategy and for a considered orchard, depending on earwig sex.It is well known that insecticide tolerance can be associated with fitness costs. That is why energetic reserves (glycogen, lipids and proteins) and morphological traits have been quantified on earwigs from orchards with different management practices. F. auricularia from conventional orchards were smaller than the other earwigs. Moreover, we have shown that the amount of energetic reserves depended on insecticide use and on the period of sampling. The high glycogen content observed in females collected in conventional orchards, 2 months after the end of treatments, supports a reallocation of reserves to the reproduction. This work brought to light the emergence of resistance to insecticides of the natural enemy F. auricularia, exposed to pesticides in conventional apple orchard

Considerable attention is paid to the characteristics of the sources of law on ensuring information security on the Internet. Substantial proposals have been made to improve legal regulation in this area both at the national (primarily Russian) and international levels. A technological approach has been applied to the consideration of security issues in the global information space, within the framework of which the organizational, technical and legal principles of ensuring information security in cyberspace, as well as ways and means of ensuring security in the global information space have been studied. It is given not only an assessment of the level of use of funds, their interrelation and mutual complement, but also the legal characteristics of security tools in the global information space, for example cryptographic. The resources allocated for the implementation of the type of legal technology under study that were not previously allocated in the legal literature, for example, scientific and economic. The features of the protection of personal information on the Internet are considered, as well as modern problems of legal security in the global information environment, including cybersecurity in banking, healthcare, and biometric data security. The problems of international cooperation in the field of information security are highlighted. For a wide range of readers interested in information security issues. It can be useful for students, postgraduates and teachers of law schools and faculties.

Streszczenie:
This e-book aims to present the most critical aspects of knowledge about using experiments in economics and practical tools for using them. The topic is extended to the more advanced and increasing in popularity area of biometric research. The book is divided into three parts mirroring experimentation. The first part provides theoretical background and tips about organising own research. The chapter is concluded with a guide focused on writing a research report in APA style. This part includes an example of the actual research report. The next part has two chapters, and both are guided tours allowing to plan and conduct eye-tracking research and electrodermal activity research (EDA). The chapters contain details about preparing experiments, conducting them, using the dedicated software to analyse collected data and interpreting the default charts. The last part is devoted to the data analysis and is universal, goes beyond the biometric experiments. There are three chapters in this part covering the standard procedures used in the analysis of experiments. The first part includes tests for one hypothesis: parametric t-test and One-Way ANOVA and non-parametric siblings: Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test. The next part describes tests allowing testing more hypotheses: ANOVA without repetition and ANOVA with repetitions. Furthermore, the last chapter deals with dependent samples, which are a popular approach in experiments. This part describes the dependent sample t-test and Wilcoxon test. The effect sizes calculations are included; each test is shown with screenshots from SPSS and some additional screenshots from Excel. This approach allows following the procedure step by step. The examples help easily understand procedures and interpretations; they were chosen from areas of sustainability and innovations to match the general idea of the e-books series prepared within the CENETSIE program. The book contains texts that can be useful in the teaching process. It can be helpful in graduate programs in economics and business schools. Programs of doctoral schools cab benefit from this book as well.

Streszczenie:
Aid agencies, governments, and donors are expanding investment in the digitisation of their beneficiary identification and registration systems, in digitised systems for cash payments, and in the remote and algorithmic control of humanitarian and social protection programmes. This is happening in ways that may facilitate the move from humanitarian assistance to government provision and may enable the delivery of shock-responsive social protection. Yet humanitarian and social protection actors are increasingly concerned about a range of risks and accountability vacuums associated with the adoption of these technologies. While claims for the benefits of digitisation often rest on cost savings, data relating to these costs and benefits are not easily accessible. There is also an urgent need to adopt approaches to value for money in this sector that recognise the digital dignity of beneficiaries. A knowledge gap exists around how the movement towards biometric identification and algorithmic management using humanitarian and social protection data will affect the interests of vulnerable populations – so too does a gap in research that is focused on the standpoints, interests, and priorities of these populations.

Streszczenie:
In this research work, we develop a drowsy driver detection system through the application of visual and radar sensors combined with machine learning. The system concept was derived from the desire to achieve a high level of driver safety through the prevention of potentially fatal accidents involving drowsy drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drowsy driving resulted in 50,000 injuries across 91,000 police-reported accidents, and a death toll of nearly 800 in 2017. The objective of this research work is to provide a working prototype of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems that can be installed in present-day vehicles. By integrating two modes of visual surveillance to examine a biometric expression of drowsiness, a camera and a micro-Doppler radar sensor, our system offers high reliability over 95% in the accuracy of its drowsy driver detection capabilities. The camera is used to monitor the driver’s eyes, mouth and head movement and recognize when a discrepancy occurs in the driver's blinking pattern, yawning incidence, and/or head drop, thereby signaling that the driver may be experiencing fatigue or drowsiness. The micro-Doppler sensor allows the driver's head movement to be captured both during the day and at night. Through data fusion and deep learning, the ability to quickly analyze and classify a driver's behavior under various conditions such as lighting, pose-variation, and facial expression in a real-time monitoring system is achieved.
