This paper presents a new physical [Formula: see text] (SBT) memristor-based chaotic circuit. The equilibrium point and the stability of the chaotic circuit are analyzed theoretically. This circuit system exhibits multiple dynamics such as stable point, periodic cycle and chaos by means of Lyapunov exponents spectra, bifurcation diagrams, Poincaré maps and phase portraits, when the initial state or the circuit parameter changes. Specially, the circuit system exhibits coexisting multi-dynamics. This study provides insightful guidance for the design and analysis of physical memristor-based circuits.

Streszczenie:
DC–DC converters are widely used. They are a typical class of strongly nonlinear time-varying systems that show rich nonlinear phenomena under certain working conditions. Therefore, an in-depth study of their nonlinear phenomena, characteristics, and generation mechanism is of great practical significance for gaining a deep understanding of this kind of switching converter, revealing the essence of these nonlinear phenomena and then optimizing the design of this kind of converter. Based on the fact that most of the inductance and capacitance are fractional-order, the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the fractional-order (FO) DCM buck–boost converter are researched in this paper. The main research work and achievements of this paper include: (1) using the predictor–corrector method of fractional calculus, which is not limited by fractional order and can directly calculate the accurate values of the inductance current and capacitor voltage of the fractional converter; the predictor–corrector model of the FO converter is established. (2) The bifurcation diagrams are obtained based on this model, and the period-doubling bifurcation and chaotic behavior of the FO buck–boost converter are analyzed. (3) The phase diagrams are obtained and verified to the point that period-doubling bifurcation occurs; then, some conclusions are drawn. The results show that under certain operating and parameters conditions, the FO buck–boost converter will appear as a bifurcation and chaotic nonlinear phenomenon. Under the condition of the same circuit parameters, the stability parameter domains of the integer-order buck–boost converter and the FO buck–boost converter are different. Compared with the integer-order converter, the parameter stability region of the FO buck–boost converter is bigger. The FO buck–boost converter is more accurate at describing the nonlinear dynamic characteristics. Furthermore, the predictor–corrector method can also be applied to other FO power converters and provides theoretical guidance for converter parameter optimization and controller design.

In the paper, a fourth-order SBT-memristor-based chaotic system described by the flux-controlled model is investigated. The stability of the chaotic system is analyzed, and the effects of initial conditions and circuit parameters on the SBT-memristor-based chaotic circuit are discussed by mathematical methods of Lyapunov exponents spectra, bifurcation diagrams, phase orbits and Poincaré maps. Through simulations, it is observed that the dynamical characteristics vary with initial states and circuit parameters. Complex dynamical behaviors such as stable points, period cycles and chaos can be found in the SBT-memristor-based system. It is also found that the system exhibits multistability, which is closely dependent on the initial state of the SBT memristor. This study provides insightful guidance for the design and analysis of memristor-based circuits towards potential real applications.

Top-tensioned riser (TTR) is one of the most frequently used pieces of equipment in offshore petroleum engineering. At present, the research of its vortex-induced vibration (VIV) is mainly focused on numerical simulation with few analytical approaches. In this paper, the nonlinear dynamic equation of VIV about TTR is developed by introducing the third-order variable lift coefficient hydrodynamic model. The amplitude-frequency response equation under 1:1 primary resonance excitation is deduced based on the single mode discrete results. The nonlinear dynamic responses characteristics of the TTR vibration under the excitation of vortex-induced resonance are discussed. Bifurcation theory is used to study the singularity of the analytical solution of the riser system. The hysteresis and solitary solutions from the results of singularity analysis are found. Such results can provide guidance for the design and optimization of riser structural parameters.

Streszczenie:
The stochastic P-bifurcation behavior of tri-stability in a fractional-order van der Pol system with time-delay feedback under additive Gaussian white noise excitation is investigated. Firstly, according to the equivalent principle, the fractional derivative and the time-delay term can be equivalent to a linear combination of damping and restoring forces, so the original system can be simplified into an equivalent integer-order system. Secondly, the stationary probability density function of the system amplitude is obtained by the stochastic averaging, and based on the singularity theory, the critical parameters for stochastic P-bifurcation of the system are found. Finally, the properties of stationary probability density function curves of the system amplitude are qualitatively analyzed by choosing corresponding parameters in each sub-region divided by the transition set curves. The consistence between numerical results obtained by Monte-Carlo simulation and analytical solutions has verified the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. The method used in this paper has a direct guidance in the design of fractional-order controller to adjust the dynamic behavior of the system.

Streszczenie:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the initial mixing of wastewater discharged from submerged outfall diffusers and the influence of port configurations on wastewater distribution based on computational results. Design/methodology/approach – Marine wastewater discharges from multiport diffusers are investigated by numerically solving three-dimensional and uncompressible two-phase flow fields. A mixture model simulates this flow and the standard k-e model to resolve flow turbulence; inter-phase interactions were described in terms of relative slip velocity between phases. Computations were performed for two values of the port spacings s/H with different current Froude numbers F. Findings – Computational results compared well with previous laboratory measurements. Numerical results reveal that for both the closely spaced (s/H=0.21) and widely spaced (s/H=3.0) ports, the normalized dilution Sn becomes independent of F; further, the length of the near field xn and the spreading layer thickness hn are functions of F. For the closely spaced ports, the wastewater discharge behaves like a line plume, the Coanda effect is obvious, quasi-bifurcation is present, horseshoe structures of the jets in the planes are rapidly produced and then squashed and elongated, and the jet trajectories based on maximum velocity precede those based on maximum concentration. For the widely spaced ports, the wastewater discharge behaves like a point plume, the Coanda effect is not obvious, bifurcation is present, horseshoe structures of the jets in the planes are gradually produced and become ellipses, and the jet trajectories based on maximum velocity are similar to those based on maximum concentration. Originality/value – Semi-empirical equations are presented to predict major near field characteristics. These provide guidance for designing multiport diffusers and assessing environmental impact.

Piecewise non-smooth model of three-degree-of-freedom rolling bearing system with fault in outer Ring is established by the method of the nonlinear theory. The Neimark-Sacker bifurcation of bearing system is first studied in this paper. The switching matrixes of system are obtained at the switching boundaries, and theNeimark-Sacker bifurcation of non-smooth bearing system is analyzed by combining the switching matrixes with the Floquet theory for smooth systems. The numerical method is used to further reveal the Neimark-Sacker bifurcation of bearing system through establishing the Poincare mapping on the collision plane. When the rotating frequency is increased to reach the critical bifurcation point, a pair of complex conjugate Floquet multipliers is on the unit circle and others into a unit circle , and the Neimark-Sacker bifurcation appears. The study of bifurcation of the fault bearing system provides reliable basis for the design and fault diagnosis and provides theoretical guidance and technical support for the actual design in the safe and stable operation of large high-speed rotating machinery.

Streszczenie:
A modified high-temperature superconducting maglev model is studied in this paper, mainly considering the influence of time delay on the dynamic properties of the system. For the original model without time delay, there are periodic equilibrium points. We investigate its stability and Hopf bifurcation and study the bifurcation properties by using the center manifold theorem and the normal form theory. For the delayed model, we mainly study the co-dimension two bifurcations (Bautin and Hopf–Hopf bifurcations) of the system. Specifically, we prove the existence of Bautin bifurcation and calculate the normal form of Hopf–Hopf bifurcation through the bifurcation theory of functional differential equations. Finally, we numerically simulate the abundant dynamic phenomena of the system. The two-parameter bifurcation diagram in the delayed model is given directly. Based on this, some nontrivial phenomena of the system, such as periodic coexistence and multistability, are well presented. Compared with the original ordinary differential equation system, the introduction of time delay makes the system appear chaotic behavior, and with the increase in delay, the variation law between displacement and velocity becomes more complex, which provides further insights into the dynamics of the high-temperature superconducting maglev model.

After the pilot phase of a simulation study, if the model contains many factors, then direct experimentation may need too much computer processing time, therefore the purpose of screening simulation experiments is to eliminate negligible or unimportant factors of a simulation model in order to concentrate the efforts upon a short list of important factors. For this matter the Sequential bifurcation procedure developed by Bettonvil and Kleijnen [3] is an efficient and effective screening method which can be used. In this study, the Sequential bifurcation screening method is used to determine the important factors of a simulation based decision support model designed by The Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI) meant for testing operational plans. By using this simulation model, a decision maker is able to test a number of feasible plans against possible courses of events. The sequential bifurcation procedure was applied and sorted the most important factors involved in this simulation model based on their relative importance.

Streszczenie:
This study is concerned with the provision of guidance for designers of computer-based training (CBT) materials. Four interrelated principles - immersion, interaction, locative fit, and multiple representations - are discussed. These principles draw upon research into instruction and technology and re-frame and re-interpret established instructional factors in terms of the capabilities of the interactive computer as a training delivery medium. It will be argued that the conjoining of pedagogy and technology in the principles is crucial to the effectiveness of CBT. Furthermore, this study will also argue that the form of the guidance has a direct bearing on its usefulness. The four principles are argued to represent a coherent framework which can raise the awareness of CBT designers on key instructional issues and the ways in which the delivery medium may be used to support them, and provide a resource on which designers may draw. The relevance and effectiveness of the principles (and the issues that they address) are explored through a body of empirical work. This takes the form of two studies: a survey of designers providing comments on the content and expression of the principles and their importance to CBT design; and a series of user trials. The contrasting nature of the studies allows the comments of designers and users to be assessed and compared.

Streszczenie:
A substantial amount of credible evidence shows that properly designed healthcare built environments can positively impact upon the health outcomes of the building users. This offers an opportunity to improve the quality of healthcare through appropriately designed healthcare built environments. Evidence-based design (EBD) emerged within healthcare building design practice to enhance the process of designing with credible evidence. This research explored improvement opportunities for EBD in the UK which would subsequently improve the quality of healthcare through built environment interventions. Specifically, three key research gaps were addressed during this research. Firstly, this research explored current practices of evidence use during healthcare designing and opportunities to increase the direct use of research-based evidence and alternative ways of conveying research-based evidence into the design process through other source of generic evidence for design. Secondly, this research explored how evidence could be effectively expressed within healthcare design standards, guidance and tools (SGaTs) in the forms of performance and prescriptive specifications. Finally, considering the unique nature of built environment design, this research explored how project unique contextual circumstances impact EBD processes and how practitioners reflect on these circumstances. These challenges were then transformed into six objectives. Following a comprehensive literature review, this research was divided into four phases. First, a model of the sources and flows of evidence (SaFE) was developed to represent evidence for EBD within generic evidence for design. The initial conceptual model was developed through desk study, based on the literature review, self-experience and the experience. This model was then verified with the comments from five un-structured interviews conducted with lecturers and senior lecturers of the School of Civil and Building Engineering. Finally, the model was validated using 12 semi-structured interviews conducted with design practitioners from the industry. In addition to the validating the sources and flows of evidence these interviews revealed rationales behind design practitioners use of evidence from four types of evidence sources. These results revealed improvement opportunities to increase the intake of research-based evidence use during healthcare built environments designing. The main data collection method for this research was case studies. Eight exemplar design elements within three case studies were investigated to explore details of evidence use practices; practices of using performance and prescriptive specifications; and impact of project unique contextual circumstances for EBD process and how design practitioners reflect on these circumstances. Results of this research revealed that EBD needs to be supported by both externally published research evidence and through internally generated evidence. It was also identified that EBD could be significantly facilitated through research- evidence informed other generic design evidence sources. Healthcare design SGaTs provides a promising prospect to facilitate EBD. Performance specification driven healthcare design SGaTs supplemented by prescriptive specifications to define design outputs and design inputs could improve effective use of evidence-informed SGaTs. These results were incorporated into a framework to guide development of healthcare design SGaTs. Finally, by exploring how projects unique contextual circumstances impact EBD processes and how practitioners reflect on these circumstances, this research identified the need for procedural guidance for designers to guide evidence acquisition, evidence application and new evidence generation.

Streszczenie:
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV's) have recently gained popularity in military, civil service, agriculture, commercial, and hobby use. This is due in part to their affordability, which comes from advances in component technology. That technology includes microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) for inertial sensing, microprocessor technology for sequential algorithm processing, field programmable gate arrays (FPGA's) for parallel data processing, camera technology, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS's) for navigation, and battery technology such as the high energy density of lithium polymer batteries. Despite the success of the technology to date, there remains development before UAV's should be flying alongside manned aircraft or over populated areas. One concern is that UAV electronics are not as safe, reliable or robust as manned-aircraft electronics because UAV's are not certified by the FAA. Another concern for UAV operation is with control algorithms and sensors, particularly in the estimation of the aircraft state, which is the position, velocity, and orientation of the aircraft. Some problems, such as numerical stability of a control algorithm or flight in windy and turbulent conditions have only been solved for certain conditions of wind, weather, or maneuvers. Outside those conditions, the actual orientation of a flying craft can mislead to the control system, and the control system may not be able to recover without a crash. When pilots fly manned aircraft in instrument meteorological conditions, or conditions of limited visibility of the ground, terrain, and obstacles, the pilot must fly in a manner which avoids abrupt maneuvers which could disturb accuracy of the aircraft's instruments. In a UAV without a pilot, there is a need to estimate the position and orientation of a UAV in an absolute manner unambiguous relative to the Earth. The position and orientation estimate must not depend on carefully controlled flight paths, but instead the estimate must be robust in the presence of UAV flight dynamics. This thesis describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of a hardware platform for GPS based orientation sensing research. In this work, we considered a receiver with three or four RF sections, each connected to an antenna in a triangular or tetrahedral pyramid constellation. Specific requirements for the receiver hardware and functionality were created. Circuitry was designed to meet the requirements using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) radio frequency (RF) modules, a mid-sized microcontroller, an FPGA, and other supporting components. A printed circuit board (PCB) was designed, fabricated, assembled, and tested. A GPS baseband processor was designed and coded in Verilog hardware description language. The design was synthesized and loaded to the FPGA, and the microcontroller was programmed to track satellites. With the hardware platform implemented, live satellite signals were found and tracked, and experiments were performed to explore the validity of GPS based orientation sensing using short antenna baselines. The platform successfully allows the user to develop correlator designs and explore carrier phase based orientation measurement using only software/Verilog modifications. Initial results of carrier phase based orientation sensing are promising, but the presence of multipath signal interference shows room for improvement to the baseband processing code.

Streszczenie:
Grouting is performed in order to decrease the permeability and increase the stiffness of the material, especially soil and rock. For tunnelling and underground constructions, permeation grouting is done where cement based materials are pumped inside drilled boreholes under a constant pressure, higher than the ground water pressure. The aim of permeation grouting is to reduce the water flow into tunnels and caverns and to limit the lowering of the surrounding groundwater table. Cement based materials are commonly used as grout due to their availability and lower costs. To obtain a proper water sealing and reduce the lowering of the ground water table, a desired spread of grout must be achieved and the rheology of the cement grout is the governing factor for estimating the required spread. Rheological properties of cement grout such as viscosity and yield stress are commonly measured off-line using laboratory instruments, and some simple tools are available to make field measurements. Although the rheological properties of the grout that is used play a fundamental role in design and execution, no method has yet been developed to measure these properties in-line in field work. In addition to the real time measurement, there is no standard method for determining the yield stress for grouting applications. Despite the common usage of Bingham model fitting to determine the yield stress, the range of shear rate is often not specified or is neglected.   In this work, an in-line rheometry method combining the Ultrasound Velocity Profiling (UVP) technique with Pressure Difference (PD) measurements, known as “UVP+PD”, was successfully tested for continuous in-line measurements of concentrated micro cement based grouts. A major obstacle of using the ultrasound based methodology was the transducers, which would be capable of emitting sufficient acoustic energy and can be used in field conditions. The transducer technology was developed in a parallel project and the Flow-Viz industrial rheometer was found to be capable of detail measurement of the velocity profiles of cement grout. The shape of the velocity profiles was visualized, and the change in the shape of the profiles with concentration and time was observed. The viscosity and yield stress of the grout were determined using rheological models, e.g. Bingham and Herschel-Bulkley. In addition, rheological properties were determined using the non-model approach (gradient method) and the tube viscometry concept and were compared with results obtained using the rheological models. The UVP+PD method was found to be capable of determining the rheological behavior of cement grout regardless of the rheological model. The yield stress of cement grout was investigated using off-line rheometry techniques and UVP+PD in-line measurements. Tests were performed applying different shear histories and it was found that two ranges of yield stress indeed exist. Therefore, the design value of yield stress should be chosen with respect to the prevailing shear rate at the grout front for the required spread of grout. In addition, an appropriate shear rate range should be used when a Bingham fitting is done to determine the yield stress. In order to estimate the shear rate, plug thickness and velocity for one dimensional and two dimensional geometry, a non- dimensional nomogram was developed. The advantage of using the nomogram is that it does not depend on the applied pressure and the rheological properties of the grout and can therefore, be used as a simple design tool. Analytical approaches were used for the estimation and good agreements were found with numerical calculations and experimental results. In conclusion, in this work, it was found that it is possible to continuously measure the velocity profiles and determine the change of the rheological properties of cement grout using the ultrasound based UVP+PD method under field conditions. The yield stress was also investigated and it was found that two range of yield stress exist depending on the prevailing shear rate of the grout, which should be used for designing the grouting time at different conditions. In order to decide the design value of yield stress for grouting applications, a non-dimensional nomogram was developed that can be used to estimate the plug thickness, shear rate and velocity of the grout.

Streszczenie:
The task of &lsquo
earthquake resistant design&rsquo
of buildings is generally considered as the province of engineering profession. Although there exists considerable number of publications related to seismic design (documentations, articles, theses, books, and earthquake codes), most of them are addressed to structural engineers rather than architects. However, earthquake affects whole building and all professionals involved in construction process should have their own roles and responsibilities for earthquake resistance. This thesis is about the roles and responsibilities of architects for being one of the professionals related to building construction and, particularly, the designers of them. Exposure of the level of awareness of architects related to the importance of their architectural designs having significant effects on seismic performance of buildings, and the level of general knowledge of them related to architecture-based seismic design issues is aimed. In this thesis, firstly, terminology related to &lsquo
earthquake&rsquo
phenomena is concisely introduced. Then, the present state of attitudes (interest, awareness and consciousness) of architectural community, architects working in the architectural offices of Ankara, towards earthquake and architecture-based seismic design issues is questioned and evaluated with a survey in the form of questionnaires. The evaluation of the results is presented with the help of statistical software called SPSS. Finally, the architecture-based issues in seismic design are re-explored and introduced for the use of architects. Thus, general idea or basic knowledge is formed, which is inferred from the survey as being one of the ways to enhance the incorporation of architecture-based seismic design issues into architectural design process.

Streszczenie:
In the aviation industry, digitally produced and presented flight, navigation, and aircraft information is commonly referred to as glass flight decks. Glass flight decks are driven by computer-based subsystems and have long been a part of military and commercial aviation sectors. Over the past 15 years, the General Aviation (GA) sector of the aviation industry has become a recent beneficiary of the rapid advancement of computer-based glass flight deck (GFD) systems. While providing the GA pilot considerable enhancements in the quality of information about the status and operations of the aircraft, training pilots on the use of glass flight decks is often delivered with traditional methods (e.g. textbooks, PowerPoint presentations, user manuals, and limited computer-based training modules). These training methods have been reported as less than desirable in learning to use the glass flight deck interface. Difficulties in achieving a complete understanding of functional and operational characteristics of the GFD systems, acquiring a full understanding of the interrelationships of the varied subsystems, and handling the wealth of flight information provided have been reported. Documented pilot concerns of poor user experience and satisfaction, and problems with the learning the complex and sophisticated interface of the GFD are additional issues with current pilot training approaches. A case study was executed to explore ways to improve training using GFD systems at a Midwestern aviation university. The researcher investigated if variations in instructional systems design and training methods for learning glass flight deck technology would affect the perceptions and attitudes of pilots of the learnability (an attribute of usability) of the glass flight deck interface. Specifically, this study investigated the effectiveness of scenario-based training (SBT) methods to potentially improve pilot knowledge and understanding of a GFD system, and overall pilot user experience and satisfaction. Participants overwhelmingly reported positive learning experiences from scenario-based GFD systems flight training, noting that learning and knowledge construction were improved over other training received in the past. In contrast, participants rated the usability and learnability of the GFD training systems low, reporting various problems with the systems’ interface, and the learnability (first-time use) of the complex GFD system. However, issues with usability of the GFD training systems did not reduce or change participant attitudes towards learning and mastering GFD systems; to the contrary, all participants requested additional coursework opportunities to train on GFD systems with the scenario-based flight training format.

Streszczenie:
There are 2.4 billion people without improved sanitation and another 2.1 billion with inadequate sanitation (i.e. wastewater drains directly into surface waters), and despite improvements over the past decades, the unsafe management of fecal waste and wastewater continues to present a major risk to public health and the environment (UN, 2016). There is growing interest in low cost sanitation solutions which harness natural systems. However, it can be difficult for wastewater utility managers to understand under what conditions such nature-based solutions (NBS) might be applicable and how best to combine traditional infrastructure, for example an activated sludge treatment plant, with an NBS such as treatment wetlands. There is increasing scientific evidence that treatment systems with designs inspired by nature are highly efficient treatment technologies. The cost-effective design and implementation of ecosystems in wastewater treatment is something that exists and has the potential to be further promoted globally as both a sustainable and practical solution. This book serves as a compilation of technical references, case examples and guidance for applying nature-based solutions for treatment of domestic wastewater, and enables a wide variety of stakeholders to understand the design parameters, removal efficiencies, costs, co-benefits for both people and nature and trade-offs for consideration in their local context. Examples through case studies are from across the globe and provide practical insights into the variety of potentially applicable solutions. Streszczenie:
Given the diversity of available methods and the geographical diversity of Europe, methodological harmonization is duly needed. The general aim of this guidance is to review the methods for estimating density in European wild ungula¬tes. This guidance is based in previous comprehensive reviews carried out by the ENETWILD Consortium, which propo¬sed general recommendations for practical implementation of methods to estimate wild ungulate density. We present 9 methods used in nineteen wild ruminant species and wild boar distributed across Europe, paying special attention to most practical methods for further implementation in the field to calculate reliable and accurate density estimates, allowing further comparable results over their distribution ranges. This guidance provides recommendations to select the methods to estimate the density and its implementations for ungulate populations with the aim of increasing the output quality (good accuracy and precision). The method should be used in a harmonized way: we provide detailed instructions for the design of most recommended methods, but specific protocols must be specifically adapted to local conditions. Every method on estimating reliable and comparable wild ungulate population density has some advanta¬ges and disadvantages depending on the habitat, the weather conditions and the benefit and do not discard their use if applied in a harmonized way. It arises from this guidance the need of developing a permanent network and a data platform to collect and share local density estimates, so as abundance in the EU.

Streszczenie:
Abstract By the method (Wu, 2001) developed by authors for singularity analyzing of the bifurcation of the periodic solutions in nonlinear dynamical systems with clearance, the bifurcation patterns of non-impact-rub response and a method for predicting rub-impact are given. It is shown that there are much more types of bifurcation patterns when the clearance constraint is take into account. Given their physical meanings of the parameters in practical rotor systems, the resonant periodic solutions of rotor systems consist of 11 different types of bifurcation patterns among of which the following four types are more likely to appear, (1) patterns without impact and jump, (2) jump patterns without impact, (3) impact pattern without jump and (4) patterns with impact and jump. Based on these results, parameter conditions for rub-impact phenomena are derived. These conditions can give more direct guidance to the design of rotor systems. The method proposed here can be used to predict rub-impact phenomena in more complicated rotor systems.

Streszczenie:
The AP1000® Containment Vessel (CV) is a freestanding steel containment designed to protect the public from radiation release. The CV consists of 2 ellipsoidal heads connected by a cylindrical shell and is constructed of carbon steel. The AP1000 plant design has four large penetrations (two airlocks and two equipment hatches) located in approximately the same quadrant of the circumference of the shell which imposes asymmetric effects in the shell structure. The CV is designed and constructed in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Subsection NE. Traditionally, the local and global stability of freestanding steel containments have been designed by use of formulae using conservative assumptions based on an axisymmetric structure. ASME Code Case N-284 “Metal Containment Shell Buckling Design Methods, Class MC Section III, Division 1” outlines methodology for satisfying the stability of the CV using two approaches. Section 1710 provides a stress based buckling approach using detailed formulae that assumes an axisymmetric structure. The second approach provides guidance and acceptability based on a linear bifurcation analysis (2D (1720) or 3D (1730)). Due to the asymmetric structure of the CV, the 3D linear bifurcation method delivers the most accurate results. The methodology and assumptions implemented by Westinghouse to qualify stability of the CV via Code Case N-284 are outlined. Also, the procedure to properly amplify the stresses as required by N-284 is included as justification of the methods used. This justification was thoroughly investigated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and deemed acceptable.

Streszczenie:
Within the collaborative research centre 666 “Integral Sheet Metal Design with Higher Order Bifurcations” the innovative manufacturing technologies linear flow-splitting and linear bend-splitting are researched that allow the continuous production of multi-chambered steel profiles in integral style. The massive forming processes create an ultra-fine grained microstructure in the forming area that is characterized by an increased hardness and lower surface roughness compared to as received material. These properties predestine the technology to be used in the production of linear guides. Additionally, the multi-chambered structure of the linear flow-split and -bend components can be used for function integration. To design and evaluate linear guides that use the whole technological potential, the research is focused on a macroscopic and a microscopic point of view. The macroscopic approach is targeting the development of linear flow-split linear guides with integrated functions to provide additional performance values to the established machine parts. Continuously produced guidance systems with innovative functionality can be introduced to a new market with the technology push approach. Preliminary designs of linear flow-split guidance systems and integrated functions are promising. Therefore, an approach to develop new functions for linear flow-split linear guides basing on calculation models and property networks is shown [1]. With this approach, optimized solutions can be created and possible design modifications can be derived. In this contribution, the development and integration of a clamping function for decelerating the slide is presented. Calculation models for analyzing the functionality are presented and validated by finite element models and experiments. The microscopic examination of the profiles aims to investigate the material behavior, particularly of the formed areas. Beside the conventional mechanical and fatigue properties of linear flow-split material ZStE500 [2], the present work focuses on the rolling contact fatigue. This is necessary to evaluate linear flow-split components regarding their eligibility with regard to the rolling contact fatigue behaviour. The Hertz theory for rolling contact fatigue is only valid for homogeneous materials [3]. The flow-split material ZStE500 shows a non-homogeneous behaviour and has to be analyzed with the Finite Element Method in order to determine stresses and strains. In comparison to simulation results with unformed and therefore homogeneous material, the effect of linear flow-split surfaces on the rolling contact behavior is demonstrated. Based on these results, it is possible to start experimental investigations on rolling contact fatigue of linear flow-split components to validate the FE model and determine the performance of linear flow-split flanges for rolling contact fatigue.

Streszczenie:
In recognition of the increasing trend toward the strain-based design of pipelines and the need for basic guidance on strain-based design, the Minerals Management Service (MMS) and the Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS) co-funded EWI to provide general guidance on strain-based design for pipelines both for the on-shore and off-shore environment. The resulting guidance can be found in this report. Special consideration has been given to the choice and qualification of pipe material, the choice and qualification of girth welding procedures and the demonstration that both pipe and weld areas have sufficient strain capacity to meet the requirements of the design. The current use of strain-based design has many project-specific components. This limits the ability of a "cookbook" approach where each step can be laid out as part of a common design sequence to apply to all areas of pipe strain-based design. This situation would indicate that taking the current state-of-the-art methods and creating a code or standard would be ineffective at covering the range of needs for future pipeline designs. Yet, because there are many choices that are part of a particular pipeline strain-based design, the availability of guidance and recommended practices can help simplify the design and qualification process for many pipelines. Going forward with this approach, the guidance provided in this report could profitably be taken forward by the industry into, for instance, an API-recommended practice. The primary areas where the strain-based design will be used are in the design of reeled laying of offshore pipelines, in thermal design of arctic pipelines, in the design of types of offshore pipelay systems, in design and assessment of pipelines in areas with significant expected ground movement, and in high-temperature and high-pressure HT/HP pipeline designs.

The objective is to develop an integrity management approach that would meet industry needs and could be the basis for codes and standards development by relevant pipeline code commit-tees. The approach is to collaborate with the PRCI SBDA committee to come up with a frame-work that could meet industrys needs to ensure the safe and reliable operation of pipelines that may be subjected to significant ground deformations. This report contains a detailed review of existing integrity management codes and pipeline design codes to establish the guidance that is available for the integrity management of pipelines that have been designed using strain-based design methods. It covers integrity management of high strains in new and existing onshore and offshore pipelines. This report presents a review of the main causes of high strains and describes the critical limit states considered in strain-based design, which may also be used to evaluate a pipelines continu-ing fitness for service after a high strain event. It describes the tasks that can be performed dur-ing each phase of a project to ensure the integrity of a new Strain Based design (SBD) pipeline. The additional integrity challenges associated with a high strain event in an existing non-SBD pipeline are presented. A detailed review of the capability of existing in-line tools to measure axial and bending strain is presented. Preliminary reviews of available external tools and technology that can be used to es-tablish the material properties of the line pipe and weld material, which are needed to establish the fitness for service of an existing non-strain-based design pipeline, is presented. A preliminary review of the methods used to detect and measure defects in girth welds and confirm that the allowable defect size has not been exceeded, is also presented. A flowchart covering the key actions and decisions to be made by a pipeline operator in the event of a high strain event is also included. This report presents recommendations for future study and development work based on the guidance and technology gaps identified during the study.

Streszczenie:
Inadequate drainage conditions may lead to airfield pavement deterioration. A thorough review of existing pavement drainage guidance and literature was necessary to identify key drainage considerations such as surface drainage infrastructure, pavement drainage layer thickness, use of geotextiles, and performance in freeze–thaw climates. Existing airport drainage guidance is provided by the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Tri-Service Pavements Working Group (TSPWG). Pavement drainage guidance is buried within regulations for pavement de-sign and can, at times, be split awkwardly to accommodate pavement guidance that is split between rigid and flexible designs. Most airfield pavement guidance has been adapted from guidance for highway design. Most guidance is also strength based, with little to no attention paid to material erodibility (a potential cause of pavement deterioration). This review also found very little reference to repairing, rather than completely replacing, damaged subsurface drainage layers. Further research is needed to assess the use of geofabrics and moisture in freeze–thaw conditions on drainage layers and surface structures. With further research, the retrofit and repair of existing subpavement systems might become a more economical solution to drainage-caused pavement deterioration issues than complete reconstruction.

The design of laterally loaded piles is often done in practice using the p-y method with API p-y curves representing the behavior of soil at discretized points along the pile length. To account for pile-soil-pile interaction in pile groups, AASHTO (2020) proposes the use of p-multipliers to modify the p-y curves. In this research, we explored, in depth, the design of lateral loaded piles and pile groups using both the Finite Element (FE) method and the p-y method to determine under what conditions pile stability problems were likely to occur. The analyses considered a wide range of design scenarios, including pile diameters ranging from 0.36 m (14.17 inches) to 1.0 m (39.37 inches), pile lengths ranging from 10 m (32.81 ft) to 20 m (65.62 ft), uniform and multilayered soil profiles containing weak soil layers of loose sand or normally consolidated (NC) clay, lateral load eccentricity ranging from 0 m to 10 m (32.81 ft), combined axial and lateral loads, three different pile group configurations (1×5, 2×5, and 3×5), pile spacings ranging from 3 to 5 times the pile diameter, two different load directions (“strong” direction and “weak” direction), and two different pile cap types (free-standing and soil-supported pile caps). Based on the FEA results, we proposed new p-y curve equations for clay and sand. We also examined the behavior of the individual piles in the pile groups and found that the moment applied to the pile cap is partly transferred to the individual piles as moments, which is contrary to the assumption often made that moments are fully absorbed by axial loads on the group piles. This weakens the response of the piles to lateral loading because a smaller lateral pressure is required to produce a given deflection when moments are transferred to the head of the piles as moments. When the p-y method is used without consideration of the transferred moments, unconservative designs result. Based on the FEA results, we proposed both a new set of p-multipliers and a new method to use when moment distribution between piles is not known, using pile efficiency instead to calculate the total capacity of pile groups.
