This research examines the generation of tsunami-induced magnetic signals, where local magnetic anomaly were measured as variations in the vertical bz and horizontal bH components of the secondary field. The maximum amplitudes of bz and bH were analytically estimated and compared to magnetogram provided by INTERMAGNET and BCMT for the 2010 Chilean, the 2011 Tohoku, the 2010 Mentawai and the 2004 Aceh tsunamis. For the first two cases, frozen-flux theory was used to estimate bz and bH where the phase lag between bz and bH was ?/2, relevant to time interval of T/4 between the two signals. For the Mentawai case, oceanic diffusion was unignored and bz significantly deviated from that calculated using the theory. However, the data from Mentawai where bz ? 2 nT were in good agreement with bz generated by large tsunamis occurring in regions near the equator and with magnetogram from the Aceh event.

Background: The Buffalo Concussion Treadmill Test (BCTT) is a graded exertion test for assessing exercise tolerance after concussion, but its utility is limited for certain populations. Hypothesis: We developed the Buffalo Concussion Bike Test (BCBT) and tested its comparability with the BCTT. We hypothesize that heart rate (HR) at symptom exacerbation on the BCBT will be equivalent to the BCTT. Study Design: Case-control study. Level of Evidence: Level 3. Methods: Adolescents with acute concussion (AC) (n = 20; mean age, 15.9 ± 1.1 years; 60% male) presenting to a concussion clinic within 10 days of injury and age- and sex-matched healthy controls (n = 20; mean age, 15.9 ± 1.1 years; 60% male) performed the BCTT at first visit and returned within 3 days to perform the BCBT. Test duration, HR, symptom severity (measured using a visual analog scale), and exertion (measured using the Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion) were collected during each test. Results: Adolescents with AC who were exercise intolerant on the BCTT were also intolerant on the BCBT, with symptom exacerbation occurring at a mean 8.1 ± 2.8 minutes on the BCTT versus 14.6 ± 6.0 minutes on the BCBT ( P < 0.01). Two 1-sided t tests showed that the HR at symptom exacerbation in AC patients (137 ± 28 bpm on BCTT vs 135 ± 25 bpm on BCBT; 95% CI, <0.01-0.03) and at voluntary exhaustion for controls (175 ± 13 bpm on BCTT vs 175 ± 13 bpm on BCBT; 95% CI, 0.03-0.03) on each test were statistically equivalent. Conclusion: The HR at symptom exacerbation on BCBT is equivalent to the BCTT for the assessment of exercise tolerance after concussion in adolescents. Clinical Relevance: The BCBT can be used in patients with limited mobility or for research interventions that require limited participant motion.

The mouse BCM1 (OX45, Blast-1) antigen has been cDNA cloned and sequenced to provide data supporting the view that BCM1, LFA3, and CD2 constitute a subgroup within the Ig superfamily. Mouse BCM1 is widely expressed on leukocytes and is likely to be anchored to the cell surface by a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol anchor, as is the case for rat and human BCM1 antigen. Genetic linkage studies by recombination and pulse field analysis showed the BCM1 locus (Bcm-1) to be on distal mouse chromosome 1 and to be linked within 1,600 kb to the locus for an ATPase alpha chain gene (Atpa-3). A similar relationship was established between the human BCM1 locus (BCM1) and ATP1A2, and other markers on chromosome 1q. Conservation of genomic organization within a segment of human chromosome 1q and mouse chromosome 1 was demonstrated. A similar situation is seen in the region of the CD2 and LFA3 genes between mouse chromosome 3 and human chromosome 1p. Furthermore, the CD2/LFA3 genes are linked within 580 kb to Atpa-1/ATP1A1 genes to provide a parallel situation to the linkage between Bcm-1/BCM1 and Atpa-3/ATP1A2 on chromosomes 1 (mouse) and 1q (human). Taken together, the data suggest duplication of a chromosome region including the precursors of the genes for BCM1, CD2, and LFA3, and the ATPase genes to give rise to the linkage groups now observed. The duplicated regions may have stayed together on chromosome 1 in the human (with the insertion of a centromere), while in the mouse, the genetic regions are proposed to have become dispersed in the formation of chromosomes 1 and 3. CD2 and LFA3 are more dissimilar in sequence than BCM1 and LFA3, and if the precursors of the CD2 and LFA3 loci formed before the proposed chromosome segment duplication, then a gene encoding a recognizer molecule for BCM1 may exist in linkage with Bcm-1/BCM1 on chromosome 1 (mouse) and 1q (human).

Abstract Establishing business continuity management (BCM) creates the basis of every organization’s strategy. BCM includes complex procedures that help solving unexpected situations of natural and anthropogenic nature (e.g. fire or flood). Planning of the BCM is a process that helps organizations identify critical processes and implement plans for securing and restoring key processes. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the application of a systemic approach to BCM known as Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) into the military field. This article describes the life cycle of the BCMS, which is based on PDCA cycle. Subsequently it is applied to the activities carried out by the University of Defence during activation of forces and means in the frame of the Integrated Rescue System (IRS) in case of emergency - an accident in a nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic. Activities in various stages of deployment of allocated forces and means are managed and evaluated using the Military Continuity Management System (MCMS) application.

The encapsulation of five derivatives of chlorin e6 with different hydrophobicity and aggregation properties into a series of five poloxamer-type triblock copolymer micelles (BCMs) with varying numbers of polyethylene and polypropylene glycol (PEG, PPG) units was monitored using 1H NMR spectroscopy. NMR chemical shift and line shape analysis, as well as dynamic methods including diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) and T1 and T2 relaxation time measurements of the chlorin and the polymer resonances, proved useful to assess the chlorin–BCM compatibility. The poloxamers had high capability to break up aggregates formed by chlorins up to intermediate hydrophobicity. Physically entrapped chlorins were always localized in the BCM core region. The loading capacity correlated with chlorin polarity for all poloxamers among which those with the lowest number of PPG units were most efficient. DOSY data revealed that relatively weakly aggregating chlorins partition between the aqueous bulk and micellar environment whereas more hydrophobic chlorins are well retained in the BCM core region, rendering these systems more stable. T1 and T2 relaxation time measurements indicated that motional freedom in the BCM core region contributes to encapsulation efficiency. The BCM corona dynamics were rather insensitive towards chlorin entrapment except for the poloxamers with short PEG chains. The presented data demonstrate that 1H NMR spectroscopy is a powerful complementary tool for probing the compatibility of porphyrinic compounds with polymeric carriers such as poloxamer BCMs, which is a prerequisite in the development of stable and highly efficient drug delivery systems suitable for medical applications like photodynamic therapy of tumors.

High-resolution functional imaging is providing increasingly rich measurements of brain activity in animals and humans. A major challenge is to leverage such data to gain insight into the brain's computational mechanisms. The first step is to define candidate brain-computational models (BCMs) that can perform the behavioural task in question. We would then like to infer which of the candidate BCMs best accounts for measured brain-activity data. Here we describe a method that complements each BCM by a measurement model (MM), which simulates the way the brain-activity measurements reflect neuronal activity (e.g. local averaging in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) voxels or sparse sampling in array recordings). The resulting generative model (BCM-MM) produces simulated measurements. To avoid having to fit the MM to predict each individual measurement channel of the brain-activity data, we compare the measured and predicted data at the level of summary statistics. We describe a novel particular implementation of this approach, called probabilistic representational similarity analysis (pRSA) with MMs, which uses representational dissimilarity matrices (RDMs) as the summary statistics. We validate this method by simulations of fMRI measurements (locally averaging voxels) based on a deep convolutional neural network for visual object recognition. Results indicate that the way the measurements sample the activity patterns strongly affects the apparent representational dissimilarities. However, modelling of the measurement process can account for these effects, and different BCMs remain distinguishable even under substantial noise. The pRSA method enables us to perform Bayesian inference on the set of BCMs and to recognize the data-generating model in each case. Morphing skin is the surface of the deployable frame which could reconfigure its shape to present optimal performance in all stages of a task for the re-entry aerospace vehicle. After many years of research effort, design concept and manufacturing methodologies of morphing skin have been developed, especially in the adoption of bistable compliant mechanism (BCM). In order to make morphing skins more stable to accommodate to the air flow and change its profile more accurately, one method on the design and optimization of stability characteristics for deployable BCMs of morphing skin is proposed in this paper. The optimization is developed by the aeroelastic formulation of the deployable BCM mounted on the morphing skin. The optimization problem is considered as a multi-objective-constraint issue and the parametric equations to get the optimal parameters are solved by the immune genetic algorithm. Besides, a case study is proposed to provide evidence that the method can come to the optimal stiffness of BCM, with which the effectiveness about the new method of design and optimization can be testified.

The present study investigates the role of attachment in a time-limited marital therapy. The study explores Brief Contextual Modular Psychotherapy (BCMT). This approach to practice provides a model that integrates principles and techniques from the major psychotherapies. BCMT can be distinguished from other brief therapies by its theoretical integration, its six-session time limit, its specific clinical focus, and its techniques for dealing with dissatisfaction and distress. The therapy sets out practice modules—six-session treatment plans—for a diverse range of presenting issues such as the anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, loss and grief, marriage and the phobias. BCMT emphasises the collaboration of the therapist and the client. A community-based psychological counselling centre has practised BCMT for over ten years, applying it in cases of wide diversity and maladjustment. Prior to this research, a comprehensive analysis of the theory underlying the BCMT model or the theory of change it endorses had not been carried out. The study provides a detailed description of the conceptual and treatment elements of the marital module developed in the treatment manual for BCMT. The study explores how the construct of attachment provides an organising framework or metaperspective for theory construction and therapeutic intervention in the clinical application of this time-limited marital therapy. To achieve this objective, one de-facto and four married couples participated in the time-limited therapy. They completed a questionnaire on adult attachment and also a self-report questionnaire to assess the effectiveness of the therapy. Narrative analysis was used to assess the praxis or the experience of participating in the therapy. The results show that the integrated model provided a treatment method for differing expressions of marital disturbance and psychopathology. Three of the five couples and eight of the ten participants reported positive treatment outcomes. The research sample included the paraphilias, a major depressive episode with postpartum psychosis, the narcissistic borderline syndrome and childhood sexual abuse. The study supports the association between the role of adult attachment styles and intrapsychic responses in conflicted intimate relationships. From the point of view of clinical applications of attachment theory, the research highlights how theoretical ideas can be integrated, specific clinical methods can be incorporated and certain treatment perspectives can be derived from one another. Several implications for the treatment process flow from this integration. The integration of attachment theory in BCMT demonstrates how the therapeutic process progressed through three separate yet interrelated stages: past, present and future. In addition, it led to the identification of three stage-related mourning processes associated with the time-limited therapeutic process: protest, despair and detachment. From a clinical perspective, the research finds that the theoretical and treatment model does not need to be restricted to marital therapy. The findings suggest that the integrated model could be applied across a wide range of presenting issues. By defining the theory of personality and psychopathology and the therapeutic change processes associated with it, the integration of attachment theory results in BCMT taking its place in the literature as a theory of psychotherapy.

This thesis deals with possible interconnections between two concepts playing a big role in contemporary business and IT world. These concepts are Business Continuity Management and Cloud Computing. In the scope of this thesis there are certain areas identified where both concepts are complement, where Cloud Computing brings new opportunities for Business Continuity Management and where could possible problems arise during particular implementation. From the BCM perspective the impact lies on IT services, from the Cloud Computing perspective the thesis deals especially with security aspects. The thesis is also aimed at the characteristics of higher education and basic differences from commercial sphere. Based on defined differences and identified interconnections between BCM and Cloud Computing, the thesis argues for usage of suitable Cloud Computing solution for higher education regarding Business Continuity improvement. The multi-criterion comparison of several Infrastructure-as-a-Service solutions stems from this analysis focusing on technical, financial, and Business Continuity aspects. The result from this comparison together with conclusions from previous chapters serve as an input for subsequent practical proposal of Cloud Computing solution and its verification against Business Continuity improvement in specific conditions on University of Economics in Prague. The proposal is also represented by strategic map.

Thin film BCZT was processed, optimized, and analyzed from powder to ceramic to film for use in a capacitive thermos-electric converter. The idea of using a temperature dependent dielectric to turn heat into electricity has been around for several decades but has never been feasible due to low efficiency and the practical difficulty of being able to thermally cycle the dielectric material quickly enough. However, thin film materials are able to be thermally cycled at high enough frequencies. One material that has potential to be used as the dielectric in a capacitive thermo-electric converter is Ba(TixZr1-x)O3-(BayCa1-y)TiO3. Known as BCZT, this perovskite has previously been studied as an alternative to piezo electrics which are traditionally made with lead. BCZT has a very high dielectric constant of several thousand and, because of its triple point just above room temperature, the dielectric constant is temperature dependent around room temperature. In this paper, BCZT is studied for its potential as a thin film dielectric material in a capacitive thermo-electric converter. Several different compositions around the triple point are created from powder sources, sintered into targets for PLD, analyzed, and the most promising composition was deposited into a thin film and patterned with in-plane capacitor contacts. Analysis using XRD and dielectric measurements was done at several stages.

Einstein?s equations with negative cosmological constant possess the so-called anti de Sitter space, AdSd+1, as one of its solutions. We will later refer to this space as to the "bulk". The holographic principle states that quantum gravity in the AdSd+1 space can be encoded by a d?dimensional quantum field theory on the boundary of AdSd+1 space, invariant under conformal transformations, a CFTd. In the most famous example, the precise statement is the duality of the type IIB string theory in the space AdS5 ? S 5 and the 4?dimensional N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. Another example is provided by a relation between Einstein?s equations in the bulk and hydrodynamic equations describing the effective theory on the boundary, the so-called fluid/gravity correspondence. An extension of the "AdS/CFT duality"for the CFT?s with boundary was proposed by Takayanagi, which was dubbed the AdS/BCFT correspondence. The boundary of a CFT extends to the bulk and restricts a region of the AdSd+1. Neumann conditions imposed on the extension of the boundary yield a dynamic equation that determines the shape of the extension. From the perspective of fluid/gravity correspondence, the shape of the Neumann boundary, and the geometry of the bulk is sourced by the energy-momentum tensor T?? of a fluid residing on this boundary. Cette thèse procède à une comparaison des expressions figées entre les langues BCMS (bosniaque/bosnien, croate, monténégrin, serbe) et le français en vue de la traduction. Dans la première partie, l'étude commence par la définition des expressions figées et des critères de figement. Après avoir fait le point sur la question des langues BCMS, on présente le corpus des expressions figées en BCMS et en français, avec leur répartition dans différents domaines culturels et la distinction de trois types d'expressions : calques, expressions transparentes, expressions opaques. La seconde partie est consacrée à l'analyse comparative des expressions figées en BCMS et en français. Elle commence par un parcours de leurs différentes origines, puis on examine les fondements culturels des expressions figées, en fonction de différents domaines fournisseurs. On développe ensuite une analyse linguistique comparée des expressions figées, en détaillant les noms composés et les différentes locutions (verbales, adjectivales etc.) et en intégrant la dimension rhétorique, notamment les métaphores. Pour finir, après une mise au point générale sur la traduction, on examine les problèmes d'interprétation et les différentes solutions de traduction des expressions figées dans les deux sens, entre français et BCMS
This thesis makes a comparison between the idioms of the BCMS languages (Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian) on the one side, and the French language on the other, in the domain of translation.In the first segment, the study begins with the definition of idioms and the criteria for fixation. After the explanation of differences among BCMS languages, we present the corpus of idioms in BCMS and in French, with their distribution within different cultural domains, while distinguishing among three types of idiomatic expressions: literal, transparent, and opaque.The second part is devoted to the comparative analysis of idioms in BCMS and French. It begins with a record of their different origins, after which we examine the cultural foundations of expressions, depending on different domains. We develop a comparative linguistic analysis of idioms, giving details on various compound names and phrases (verbal, adjectival, etc.), and integrating the rhetorical dimension, including metaphors. Finally, after an overall focus on translating, we examine issues found in interpretation and translation solutions for different idioms between French and BCMS

The desire to control an LRU and/or MIL-STD 1760 store via an independent 1553 stream on current weapon platforms created the need for the development of the BCT-302 1553 Test Bus Card. This solution solves the issues of integration without the need to perform an aircraft OFP change. The BCT- 302 is a customized MIL-STD-1553 card for use in Teletronics Technology Corporation, (TTC), Airborne Instrumentation Multiplexer (AIM) and High-Speed Avionics Data Acquisition Unit (HSAVDAU) products. The BCT-302 card consists of two redundant MIL-STD-1553 ports. Each port is independently configurable by the AIM/HSAVDAU host processor to function as a Bus Controller (BC), Remote Terminal (RT) or Bus Monitor (BM). The system is capable of cherry picking parameters from any 1553 bus and retransmitting assembled messages to a weapon and/or an LRU in a 1553 format. This paper describes the design requirements of the BCT card and how those requirements were met during an AIM-9X launch on an F-22.

This thesis deals with fabrication and optimization of lead-free piezoceramics based on (Ba0,85Ca0,15Zr0,1Ti0,9)O3 (BCZT). The BCZT precursor powder was synthesized by sol-gel method. Dependence of relative density, microstructure, phase structure and piezoelectric properties on the sintering temperature in a range from 1300–1500 °C was studied on disc shaped samples, which were prepared by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) using pressure of 700 MPa. It was found, that sintering at 1300 and 1350 °C leads to ceramics with fine-grain microstructure, which exhibits poor piezoelectric properties (d*33 = 50 pC·N1 and 65 pC·N1, respectively). The highest value of piezoelectric charge coefficient was obtained by sintering at 1500 °C (d*33 = 390 pC·N1). Furthermore, BCZT thick films were prepared by tape casting. The composition of the ceramic slurry was optimized and various sintering techniques were tested to obtain completely flat films of BCZT ceramics. The correct sintering configuration has not been found. The least deformation of the films was achieved when the samples were sintered hung on the ZrO2 rod. The highest value of d*33 for BCZT films was measured when the sample was sintered at 1400 °C with the dwell time for 4 h (d*33 = 340 pC·N1).

Myeloma remains largely incurable and there is an unmet need for new therapies. B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) is an attractive therapeutic target due to its restricted expression on normal and malignant plasma cells(PC). A natural ligand for BCMA is a proliferating ligand (APRIL) which also naturally binds another antigen expressed on myeloma cells: Transmembrane activator and CAML interactor (TACI). APRIL is an attractive binder as it is a compact, self-protein which binds both BCMA and TACI with high affinity. BCMA and TACI expression was quantified on tumour cells from a large number of patients to explore the clinical utility of targeting these antigens. Tumour BCMA expression was found in all patients, persisted with relapse and extramedullary spread and low levels was associated with improved patient outcome. However BCMA expression was variable, often low and TACI was co-expressed on tumour from 78% of patients. Recognising that dual antigen targeting of BCMA and TACI may increase target antigens on tumour and reduce the risk of antigen negative disease escape, an APRIL based chimeric antigen receptor(ACAR) was optimised and in vitro activity against BCMA and TACI targets demonstrated. Target kill was seen at low levels of antigen and low effector to target ratios and further, potent ACAR efficacy was demonstrated in vivo in an intramedullary murine myeloma model. A targeted mutagenesis strategy was also used to generate a BCMA specific APRIL mutant. When APRIL mutant was used in a CAR(ACAR-mut), specificity was confirmed for BCMA targets, however there was no significant T cell expansion against primary tumour. In a second strategy, APRIL based bispecific molecules were engineered consisting of a CD3 specific single chain variable fragment linked to an APRILWT(APRILiTE). Preliminary studies using unpurified and unquantified protein in co-cultures of target and activated T cells, demonstrated cytolysis of BCMA expressing cells and primary myeloma cells using APRILiTE. Therefore, APRIL based therapeutic strategies provide a novel and promising approach to immunotherapy in myeloma.

Platform drilling has been effectively employed for several Spar applications in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). As the drilling day rates surge in the recent market, this option becomes more attractive and has been increasingly considered by operators. The Spar drilling riser has been traditionally supported by a hydraulic tensioner. On the other hand, buoyancy can riser tensioner (BCRT) systems have been successfully used for top tensioned production risers on Spars in deepwater oil and gas developments in the GOM. The authors herein propose a conceptual design for using a BCRT system to support the Spar drilling riser in possible practical applications. The paper presents system configuration and general arrangement of the BCRT system supported drilling riser for application in 5,000 ft of water in the GOM. The maximum pressure rating of the drilling riser is assumed 10,000 psi. The BCRT system will provide required top tension, as well as redundancy capacity, required for various drilling operations. Design requirements are carefully considered for this previously-unused concept. Furthermore, as needed, the drilling riser BCRT system can be converted for supporting a production riser after all drilling operations are completed.

The Buoyancy Can Riser Tensioner (BCRT) systems are designed to provide tension to Top-Tensioned Risers (TTRs). BCRT systems do not transfer the riser weight to the floater and they minimize the interaction between the floating platform and the riser system. For deepwater field developments, this attractive feature allows efficient design of the floaters as well as the riser systems. Although, the vertical riser load is not transferred to the hull, the BCRT system makes lateral contact with the hull at several locations. During the past 3 years, analytical models have been developed to characterize mechanics of the contact between two large floating bodies (buoyancy can and hull) and compliant guide hardware has been developed. Placement of a compliant guide between the hull and the BCRT has become the current practice for design of Spar floaters. The initial development of the analytical models and the compliant guide hardware coincided with the Horn Mountain project. The project team placed extensive instrumentation on the hull and compliant guides with a vision to confirm robustness of the guides and to calibrate analytical models used during the design phase. This paper presents a summary of the data collected on the performance of the Spar hull, compliant guides, and the riser systems for storms up to 25 ft of significant wave height. Analytical methods and predictions are presented to characterize the dynamic interaction between the BCRT system and Spar hull.

A fixed-guided beam is one of most commonly used flexible segments in compliant mechanisms such as bistable mechanisms, compliant parallelogram mechanisms, compound compliant parallelogram mechanisms and thermomechanical in-plane microactuators. In this paper, we split a fixed-guided beam into two elements, formulate each element using the Beam Constraint Model (BCM) equations, and then assemble the two elements’ equations to obtain the final solution for the load-deflection relations. Interestingly, the resulting load-deflection solution (referred to as Bi-BCM) is closed-form, in which the tip loads are expressed as functions of the tip deflections. The maximum allowable axial force of Bi-BCM is the quadruple of that of the BCM. Bi-BCM also extends the capability of the BCM for predicting the second buckling mode of fixed-guided beams. Besides, the boundary line between the first and the second buckling modes of fixed-guided beams can be easily obtained using a closed-form equation. Bi-BCM can be immediately used for quick design calculations of compliant mechanisms utilizing fixed-guided beams as their flexible segments (generally no iteration is required). Different examples are analyzed to illustrate the usage of Bi-BCM, and the results show the effectiveness of the closed-form solution.
