Zusammenfassung Dieser Artikel bietet eine Untersuchung des Begriffs „Sein-in-der-Tat“, der in der neueren englischsprachigen Sekundärliteratur Barths „aktualistische Ontologie“ genannt wird. Ziel dieses Aufsatzes ist es, die zugrundeliegenden Grammatiken dieser Ontologie durch eine gründliche Untersuchung von Schlüsselbegriffen wie „Bestimmung“, „Natur“, „Wesen“ und „Sein“ zu rekonstruieren. Barth stimmt teilweise mit Hegel gegen die substantialistische Tradition überein, dass Gott ein lebendiges Subjekt und keine abstrakte Substanz ist. Gottes Subjektivität ist für Barth aber unaufhebbar und also bereits absolut, d. h. bereits an-und-für-sich. Seine Beibehaltung der traditionellen Grammatik des lateinischen Substantialismus zeigt jedoch, dass er den klassischen Theismus und damit einen gewissen Substanzbegriff dialektisch in seine aktualistische Ontologie integriert hat, zusammen mit seiner Annahme von Hegels Einsichten. Diese Ontologie wird durch die Grammatik einer grundsätzlich chalzedonischen Dialektik reguliert: das Werden ist kein Abzug und keine Veränderung, sondern ein Zusatz zum Wesen. Im Fall von Barths theologischer Ontologie steht diese Dialektik in scharfem Gegensatz zu Hegels logischer Dreieinigkeit vom An-sich-Sein, Für-sich-Sein und An-und-für-sich-Sein des Geistes. Barths theologische Ontologie ist doch chalzedonisch: Gott-an-und-für-sich wurde Gott-für-uns, ohne jemals aufzuhören, Gott-an-und-für-sich zu sein.

Abstract Without the contemplation of the Isenheim Altar, Karl Barth would not have achieved a certain theological breakthrough in this radical and precise manner. It can be assumed that his theological linguistic doctrine for the turn from the first to the second version of the Commentary on the Letter to the Romans was promoted by the pictorial contemplation of the Isenheim Altar (caused by the disappointment about his theological teachers). The thesis is that Barth presented his theological metaphor of the ›death line‹ (17 October 1920) in derivation of the ›death wall‹ (17 April 1920) of the closed representation of the altar, which had previously been viewed by Grünewald, so that Barths with his Grünewald reception also and decisively initiated and carried out his theological reorientation.

W teologicznej refleksji o powtórnym przyjściu chrystusa wybitni autorzy protestanccy, jak Rudolf Bultmann, wczesny Karl Barth, Charles H. Dodd, podjęli próby interpretacji, które redukowały paruzję z kategorii wydarzenia do kategorii symbolu. Apologiem oczekiwania paruzji stał się natomiast przedstawiciel kolejnego pokolenia teologów protestanckich, Jürgen Moltmann. Debata o paruzji ogniskowała się również wokół interpretacji „przyszłości Chrystusa”: ma być ona jedynie „odsłonięciem” tego, co już zostało całkowicie spełnione w misterium paschalnym(Barth), czy też musi zostać dopełniona przez ideę ostatecznego i definitywnego „wypełnienia” (Moltmann). Wydaje się, że wobec zbyt jednostronnych ujęć Bartha i Moltmanna relacja między krzyżem, zmartwychwstaniem i przyszłością Chrystusa musi znaleźć swoją zrównoważoną artykulację. Poszerzenie zaś refleksji o paruzji na obszar trynitarny, eklezjologiczny, antropologiczny i kosmiczny pozwala na bardziej integralne ujęcie − odnoszące się zarazem do „przyszłości Chrystusa”, jak i do przyszłości ludzkości, historii i całego stworzenia.

Artikel ini bersifat pengantar ke dalam pemahaman seorang teolog tentang Trinitas yakni Karl Barth. Barth menitikberatkan penjelasannya pada kesatuan Trinitas. Meskipun hal itu terlihat mirip dengan pandangan para teolog sebelumnya, Barth tetap memiliki cara tersendiri dalam mengungkapkan kesatuan Trinitas. Kita akan melihat bahwa Barth seolah-olah menegaskan perbedaan pribadi Trinitas melalui penguatan pada kesatuan Trinitas. Melalui tinjauan kepustakaan, artikel ini mencoba melihat literatur yang berkaitan langsung dengan Barth serta tulisan lain yang dianggap kredibel dan mendukung fokus penelitian. Trinitas dalam pandangan Barth adalah Allah yang mewahyu, satu yakni Allah Bapa, Anak, dan Roh Kudus yang tidak dapat ditukar satu dengan yang lainnya. Dia adalah Allah yang bebas dan berbelas kasih sehingga melalui wahyu dan karya-Nya, Ia berkenan untuk diri-Nya sedikit diketahui oleh ciptaan khususnya manusia. Hal ini dapat menjadi sebuah sumbangsih pemikiran bagi para teolog ketika ingin memperluas pengetahuan mengenai Trinitas, maupun dalam upaya melihat lebih jauh cara Barth berpikir.

Abstract Like that of his father, Markus Barth’s work can be appreciated as a tireless effort to exegetically reorder Jewish-Christian relations. Even so, Barth’s writings on the Jews leave little doubt that he is vexed by a certain strain of Jewish support for Israel. More important, Barth’s writings about post-1967 Israel put his own discourse about the brotherhood of Christians and Jews into crisis. This essay will attempt to offer a working solution to this problem that can help followers of Markus Barth’s ideas continue to engage in productive and meaningful Jewish-Christian conversation.

It is the argument of this thesis that Karl Barth's theology is an attempt to resolve the conflict between two ostensibly opposing historic aspirations. One is represented in the moral autonomy and critical attitude of the Enlightenment epitomised by Kant's declaration Sapere Aude! The other is represented by the Romantic (nostalgic) impulse for unification and integration with the Infinite, with God. Barth, like Hegel before him, attempts to maintain and hold the two forces together, to acknowledge the claims of both in his theology. Decisive to this project is Barth's resolution of the metatheological dilemma Franz Overbeck set for theology. It can be shown that not only is it the case Overbeck's metatheological dilemma informs Romans II, it is the final horizon for Fides Quaerens Intellectum and the Church Dogmatics. Indeed, it is clear that Barth's answer to Overbeck - sui generis theological truth - is already implicit in Barth's theological development as early as his lecture The Strange New World of the Bible. Barth's encounter with Overbeck is responsible for the one thing missing from The Stange New World of the Bible - the dialectical irony ever present in Barth's theology from Romans II onwards. Ludwig Wittgenstein, his philosophy and his intellectual and cultural world, is the unifying metanarrative uncovering the specific means by which Barth attempted to achieve his objectives. Wittgenstein's philosophy too is implicated in the attempt to resolve the two apparently irreconcilable forces of the time; Wittgenstein's philosophy too grapples with a metadilemma, Hume's metaphilosophical dilemma.

Le personnage romanesque ne peut etre considere comme un a priori, il est le produit d'une construction textuelle. Dans les six premieres oeuvres de hohn barth, la construction du personnage s'effectue selon divers parametres: le nom propre, une classe d'objets a la fois propres et exterieurs au personnage: le masque, le role, l'autre qu'il s'agisse d'un autre personnage, contraire et complementaire, ou du personnage lui-meme considere comme un autre a atteindre au bout d'un voyage entrepris sur l'eau. Le nom propre, souvent objet d'une quete, est double ou multiple, dans tous les cas, fuyant. Destabilise, il est cependant le signe qui infere l'identite ontologique du personnage et qui permet aussi sa survie a la surface du texte. Le masque, unique, ou le role, singulier, est la condition d'existence du personnage: il n'y a rien derriere le masque, sans role, le personnage est frappe d'immobilisme. Cependant, le role demeure hors d'atteinte: lorsque confronte a la rupture de la symbiose gemellaire, c'est en vain que le personnage cherche par la fusion avec le role a retrouver l'unite perdue. L'autre, autre personnage, est inaccessible: leur relation se construit sur le modele de l'anneau de moebius, sur le paradoxe: leur point de coincidence est toujours differe. Enfin, le voyage sur l'eau au bout duquel le personnage tente de se recontrer, regenere, est une parodie: il ne debouche que sur l'echec. Le personnage se definit donc plus par le processus qui cherche a le construire que par l'aboutissement, sans cesse ajourne, de celui-ci. Son ultime recours d'existence est le langage, langage qui circonscrit un univers reflexif qui ne cesse de s'auto-parodier. Le personnage producteur de discours comble alors son propre vide par une proliferation verbale
The character of fiction should not be considered as a given, rather it is a construction produced through the text. In john barth's first six works, the character is produced along the lines of several parameters: naming and attribution of features inherent to or exterior to the character: mask and role, the other , another character both contrary and complementary, or the character himself seen as other to be reached at the end of a sea-journey. The name, often sought after in a quest, is double or multiple, in any case unreachable. Though a shifting attribute, it nevertheless remains the sign through which the character's identity can be infered; the character's name insures his survival in the text. A single mask or role warrants the existence of the character: there is nothing behind the mask, without a role the character is struck motionless. However, the role remains out of reach. When suddenly parted from his twin, the character vainly seeks to recover the lost unity through a fusion with his role. The other as another character cannot be reached: they enter a relation modelled after the moebius strip; ironically the moment of their coincidence is forever delayed. Lastly, the sea-journey -the characters's attempt to find a regenerate selfis a parody: it is a failure. The character is defined through the building process more than through its final achievement. The character's last help is language which frames a solipsist universe in never-ending self-parody. The character as a speaker-writer fills up his own void by a proliferation of words

The static and dynamic stall behavior of the supercritical NLR 7301 airfoil is analyzed with a 2D thin-layer Navier-Stokes code. The code solves the compressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with an upwind biased numerical scheme in combination with the Baldwin-Lomax or the Baldwin-Barth turbulence models. The effect of boundary layer transition is incorporated using the transition length model of Gostelow et al. The transition onset location is determined with Michel’s formula or it can be specified as an input parameter. The two turbulence models yield significantly different steady-state lift coefficients at incidences greater than 8 degrees. Also, the lift hysteresis loops are strongly affected by the choice of the turbulence model. The use of the one-equation Baldwin-Barth model together with the Gostelow transition model is found to give substantially better agreement with the experimental data of McCroskey et al. than the Baldwin-Lomax model.

This paper presents a modified version of the Baldwin-Barth (BB) turbulence model. This modification accounts for the asymptotic boundary value of the pseudo eddy viscosity as the wall is approached. The BB Model tends to respond strongly to an adverse pressure gradient, in the sense that it always predicts a large decrease in skin friction relative to the measured values. Hence, in the present work, the importance of the modifications for improving the skin friction prediction of flows with adverse pressure gradient is addressed. All of the implemented modifications are free of wall functions and coordinate independent, which renders the model advantageous relative to other wall dependent models. The results are compared with both the original BB and the Spalart-Allmaras (SA) models. The accuracy of these and the present model is assessed against experimental data for transonic flows over NACA-0012 and RAE 2822 airfoils. In general, good agreement with experiments is indicated.

The performance and cavitation characteristics of marine propellers and hydrofoils are strongly affected by tip vortex behavior. A number of previous computational studies have been done on tip vortices, both in aerodynamic and marine applications. The focus, however, has primarily been on validating methods for prediction and advancing the understanding of tip-vortex formation in general, rather than showing effects of tip modifications on tip vortices. Studies of the most relevance to the current work include computational studies by Dacles-Mariani et al. (1995) and Hsiao and Pauley (1998, 1999). Daeles-Mariani et al. carried out interactively a computational and experimental study of the wingtip vortex in the near field using a full Navier-Stokes simulation, accompanied with the Baldwin-Barth turbulence model. Although they showed improvement over numerical results obtained by previous researchers, the tip vortex strength was underpredicted. Hsiao and Pauley (1998) studied the steady-state tip vortex flow over a finite-span hydrofoil, also using the Baldwin-Barth turbulence model. They were able to achieve good agreement in pressure distribution and oil flow pattern with experimental data and accurately predict vertical and axial velocities of the tip vortex core within the near-field region. Far downstream, however, the computed flow field was overly diffused within the tip vortex core. Hsiao and Pauley (1999) also carried out a computational study of the tip vortex flow generated by a marine propeller. The general characteristics of the flow were well predicted but the vortex core was again overly diffused.

Abstract The capability of the INS3D-UP code in the prediction of turbulent flow in a sharp bend of circular cross-section has been investigated. The code, developed by the NASA Ames Research Center, is being used by the NASA Marshal Space Flight Center to analyze turbulent flow of liquid propellant in vaned pipe bends designed for use in the Space Shuttle Main Engine. The FORTRAN code is based on finite difference method and uses the concept of pseudocompressibility to solve incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. The Baldwin-Barth turbulence model is embedded in the code for turbulence computation. The flow field, at a Reynolds number of 43,000, in a sharp 90° bend has been predicted and compared with measurement. It is found that the agreement between the predicted and measured velocities is very well. The predicted pressures at the bend wall also compares reasonably well with the measurement. It is concluded that the INS3D-UP code is a good computational tool to analyze similar flow problems.
