Streszczenie:
Summary: Clinical practices, both private and academic, need to be profitable to sustain themselves and grow. To manage them and drive profits, one needs leadership that has a well-rounded understanding of multiple facets. When business decisions are based on financial data alone, they meet the goal of profit margin but alienate clinicians; when made using clinical data alone, they fulfill the clinical mission but ignore the bottom line. Here, we explain the benefits of a sound business-minded leadership that integrates the nuances of financial data, the cadence of clinical practices, and the value of resources, and makes meaningful business decisions. These decisions create a strong bond between physicians and their administrative leaders, aligning their “mission” (provide better care), and their “margin” (profitability and growth). We explain critical aspects of each source of information and how to use them together to make business decisions. Recognizing that clinicians may not have access to methods of financial analysis, we also supply a prepopulated Excel spreadsheet that has all equations baked in, so that it can be readily used, filling in their own data to generate financial ratios. This work explains how sound decisions can be made using financial metrics, clinical data (here, plastic surgery), and resource utilization, to identify areas that can be improved and take steps to achieve results.

In order to address some deployment problems of IP multicast, the notion of Multicast Service Overlay Network (MSON) is proposed. How to construct MSON satisfying user’s demand efficiently under the situation of limited resources is a hot issue. In this paper we analyze a mathematics model of MSON construction. Under the objective of finding a virtual topology on top of physical network fulfilling all restrictions, and minimizing the cost of construction while keeping residual physical network the most balanced, an Integer Linear Programming model of the construction problem is depicted. In order to solve the problem efficiently, we propose a heuristics algorithm named BLMH. The efficiency of BLMH is evaluated by emulation experiment according to congestion link number under several scenarios.

Nutritional intake in children plays an important role in optimizing growth and development in children. The adequacy of nutritional intake in children can be assessed by the state of nutritional status characterized by thin, normal, and obese children. One of the roles of parents is to be responsible for fulfilling nutrition for their children. The desire of parents to fulfill their children's nutritional needs is often the background of inappropriate feeding practices. Inappropriate feeding practices include always fulfilling a child's desire to consume the food he wants, even many parents allow whatever food their child consumes, many parents serve ready-to-eat food Lack of nutritious food will lead to child growth retardation , the prevalence of malnutrition in 2013 was 19.6%, consisting of 5.7% malnutrition and 13.9% malnutrition. When compared with the national prevalence rate in 2010 (17.9%), it seems that this is increasing. The aim of this study is to know the relationship between the role of parents in preparing a balanced menu with the nutritional status of children. The design used is a literature review, namely by using several journals from several sources such as: Google Scholar, PubMed. The keywords used to perform the search are "Balanced Menu with Child Nutritional Status" for international articles used to search is "Balanced With Children's Menu. Nutritional Status ”, publication year between 2015-2020, the results of the journal discussion show that there is an influence between the role of parents in preparing a balanced menu for children with the nutritional status of the child. And it was concluded that the role of parents is really needed for the growth and development of the child. However, children must receive adequate nutritional intake in order to grow healthy. Children's health can be achieved through efforts to provide a balanced diet according to their nutritional needs.

Market equilibrium is a price agreement that occurs in a market system between sellers and buyers with a mechanism of bargaining. The presence of demand and supply encourages a bargaining process aimed at obtaining a balanced price. The market can be said to get a price balance when the asking price matches the bid price. The process of demand and supply is also in the perspective of Islamic economics. The research method used in this research is library research or literature research. The results of the study show that in Islamic economics there are conditions related to the Al-Qur'an and Hadith, namely the concept of a good economy and in accordance with Islamic teachings. The view of Islamic teachings regarding market balance is relatively the same but has certain limitations with the aim of fulfilling Islamic principles.

Because of the disconnect within the curriculum and the lack of contextual relevance, African theological education is still searching for appropriate approaches to ministerial training. Integrative theological education refers to systematic attempts to connect major learning experiences appropriate to the education and formation of ministers. It is seen as a solution to connect and transform ministry training. The main premise of this book is that the key to enhancing theological education is the intentional integration of knowing with being and doing, of theory with practice, and of theology with life and ministry. In this way, all aspects of student learning are brought together holistically, highlighting an educational strategy that is concerned with connections in human experience, thereby supporting student learning. This book offers the opportunity to consider integration as an appropriate pedagogical approach, to create the correct balance in making education more meaningful and fulfilling for the African, revealing humanising education grounded in African philosophy and worldview.

AbstractClinical education is traditionally face-to-face and includes hands-on experience with patients. Under the pandemic, all clinical practice in various settings were suspended because of the safety concern of students, patients and clinical educators. Under the pandemic, the demand of the healthcare professionals for acute management and post-pandemic rehabilitation was increased. The suspension of clinical training delayed students’ graduation which was especially undesirable because of the insufficient manpower in society and the healthcare system. With limited knowledge on the transmission, management and post-COVID health impact, strict rules of infectious control have been executed. When considering the resumption of clinical education to students, the issue of everyone’s safety, students’ learning experience, fulfilling the intended learning outcomes, and most importantly, meeting the criteria of professional licensure registration must be balanced. Given the urgency, the clinical education team had reviewed the key intended learning outcomes of clinical education in the existing curriculum and revamped the content by including concepts of effective learning and blended strategies. A new model—“Blended Clinical Education”—a combination of face-to-face and online modes was established. To ensure successful launch of the new model, numerous briefings with students, clinical educators, faculty members and licensure registration board were organized for easing their stress. With all colleagues’ efforts, students finally graduated in time and joined the healthcare system providing urgent supply of manpower.

AbstractAlthough municipalities in Germany do not have their own constitutional level of government similar to the federal government or Länder, they make an essential contribution to the provision of goods and services of general interest. Municipalities, granted autonomy in self-government by the constitution, operate in a highly charged and politically contested area of governance. On the one hand, municipalities enjoy the right to self-government, and neither the federal government nor the Länder may interfere with this arbitrarily. On the other, as a constitutional part of the Länder, the municipalities are dependent on them, especially so in financial terms. As a result, municipalities constantly have to balance their derived responsibilities with their voluntary tasks as both formal expectations and specific demands from citizens continue to grow due to a constantly changing global conditions and new types of crises. Municipalities in Germany are torn between fulfilling their administrative implementation mandate, on the one hand, and responding to the more immediate claims of local politics and their constituencies, on the other.

Streszczenie:
Among these five couples, Lucy Sprague Mitchell (1878-1967) and Wesley Clair Mitchell (1874-1948) most successfully combined professional accomplishments with a fulfilling marriage and a rich family life. When they married in 1912, they left their jobs at the University of California at Berkeley, and moved to New York City, which offered more professional opportunities for Lucy. A brilliant teacher and gifted administrator, Lucy became a pioneering force in the progressive education movement. She founded and led the organization that became the celebrated Bank Street College of Education. Wesley, one of the foremost economists of his generation, helped to develop the science of national statistics and launched and directed the National Bureau of Economic Research. They had four children, two of whom were adopted. Finding the right balance of marriage, work, and family involved much trial and error and frequent recalibration on both Lucy’s and Wesley’s part. Lucy did most of the childcare (with the help of many servants), but Wesley did more than most men of his era, and decided not to take one particular job because he felt it would take too great a toll on his family. Eager to show that wives and mothers can have careers when their husbands support their efforts and help to raise their children, Lucy published Two Lives, The Story of Wesley Clair Mitchell and Myself, in 1953, five years after Wesley’s death. Her message – as relevant today as it was in the 1950s – was that both wives and husbands need to adopt new behaviors to make such marriages work. Determined to have careers, both Lucy and Beatrice rejected prevalent stereotypes of masculinity and romantic love and made calculated, “rational” choices about whom to marry. Like Beatrice, Lucy came from a privileged background, married a man outside her social class, and used her inherited wealth to support their lifestyle. Like Beatrice, it took her years to appreciate that the man she initially found too weak and passive was a tower of quiet strength and a model husband for an ambitious woman. Like Sidney, Wesley supported his wife’s career with ongoing, ungrudging, unambiguous enthusiasm. As a result, neither Lucy nor Beatrice suffered the marital pressure – or the guilt – that made it so difficult for Alice and Grace to maintain their independent careers. Nor did they experience the intellectual and emotional isolation that undermined Elsie’s marriage. In the end, both Beatrice and Lucy felt richly rewarded for the unconventional choices they made.

Streszczenie:
AbstractBuilding on the two rounds of exposure studies with human milk coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the mid-1980s and 1990s on polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD), and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDF), five expanded studies on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were performed between 2000 and 2019. After the adoption of the Stockholm Convention on POPs (the Convention) in 2001, WHO and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) collaborated in joint studies starting in 2004. The collaboration aimed at provision of POPs data for human milk as a core matrix under the Global Monitoring Plan (GMP) to assess the effectiveness of the Convention as required under Article 16. Over time, the number of analytes in the studies expanded from the initial 12 POPs targeted by the Convention for elimination or reduction to the 30 POPs covered under the Stockholm Convention and two other POPs proposed for listing as of 2019. Many of these chemicals have numerous congeners, homologous groups, isomeric forms, and transformation products, which significantly extends the number of recommended analytes. In the studies between 2000 and 2019, 82 countries from all five United Nations regions participated, of which 50 countries participated in more than one study. For the human milk samples of the 2016–2019 period, results are available for the full set of 32 POPs of interest for the Convention until 2019: (i) the 26 POPs listed by the start of the study in 2016; (ii) decabromodiphenyl ether [BDE-209] and short-chain chlorinated paraffins [SCCP] as listed in 2017; (3) dicofol and perfluorooctanoic acid [PFOA] as listed in 2019; (4) medium-chain chlorinated paraffins [MCCP] and perfluorohexane sulfonic acid [PFHxS] as proposed for listing. This is a unique characteristic among the core matrices under the GMP.Four key messages can be derived: These studies are an efficient and effective tool with global coverage as key contributor to the GMP. After collection of a large number of individual samples (usually 50) fulfilling protocol criteria, pooled samples are prepared using equal aliquots of individual samples (physical averaging) and are considered to be representative for a country, subregion or subpopulation at the time of the sampling. The analysis of pooled representative human milk samples by dedicated Reference Laboratories meeting rigorous quality criteria contributes to reliability and comparability and reduces uncertainty of the analytical results. Additionally, this concept is very cost-effective. These studies can be used for regional differentiation based on concentrations of individual POPs between and within the five UN Regional Groups (African Group, Asia-Pacific Group, Eastern European Group, Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries; Western European and Others Group). For some POPs, a wide range of concentrations with up to three orders of magnitude between lower and upper concentrations was found, even for countries in the same UN region. Some countries had levels within the usual range for most POPs, but high concentrations for certain POPs. Findings of concentrations in the upper third of the frequency distribution may motivate targeted follow-up studies rather than if the observed level of a POP is found in the lower third of frequency distribution. However, the concentration of a POP has also to be seen in context of the sampling period and the history and pattern of use of the POPs in each country. Therefore, results are not intended for ranking of individual countries but rather to distinguish broader patterns. These studies can provide an assessment of time trends, as possible sources of variation were minimized by the survey concepts building on two factors (sampling design; analysis of the pooled samples by dedicated Reference Laboratories). The estimation of time trends based on comparison of median or mean concentrations in UN Regional Groups over the five surveys in five equal four-year periods between 2000 and 2019 provides a first orientation. However, the variation of the number of countries participating in a UN Regional Group in a certain period can influence the median or mean concentrations. Thus, it is more prudent to only use results of countries with repeated participation in these studies for drawing conclusions on temporal trends. The reduction rates in countries should be seen in context with the concentration range: A differentiation of high levels and those in the range of the background contamination is meaningful. If high levels are found, sources might be detected which could be eliminated. This can lead to significant decrease rates over the following years. However, if low background levels are reported, no specific sources can be detected. Other factors for exposure, e.g. the contamination of feed and food by air via long-range transport and subsequent bioaccumulation, cannot be influenced locally. However, only very few time points from most individual countries for most POPs of interest are available, which prevents the derivation of statistically significant temporal trends in these cases. Yet, the existing data can indicate decreasing or increasing tendencies in POP concentrations in these countries. Furthermore, pooling of data in regions allows to derive statistically significant time trends in the UN Regional Groups and globally. Global overall time trends using the data from countries with repeated participation were calculated by the Theil–Sen method. Regarding the median levels of the five UN Regional Groups, a decrease per 10 years by 58% was found for DDT, by 84% for beta-HCH, by 57% for HCB, by 32% for PBDE, by 48% for PFOS, by 70% for PCB, and by 48% for PCDD and PCDF (expressed as toxic equivalents). In contrast, the concentrations of chlorinated paraffins (CP) as “emerging POPs” showed increasing tendencies in some UN Regional Groups. On a global level, a statistically significant increase of total CP (total CP content including SCCP [listed in the Convention in 2017] and MCCP [proposed to be listed]) concentrations in human milk of 30% over 10 years was found. The studies can provide the basis for discussion of the relative importance (“ranking”) of the quantitative occurrence of POPs. This, however, requires a differentiation between two subgroups of lipophilic substances ([i] dioxin-like compounds, to be determined in the pg/g [=ng/kg] range, and [ii] non-dioxin-like chlorinated and brominated POPs, to be determined in the ng/g [=μg/kg] range; both groups reported on lipid base) and the more polar perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS); reported on product base [as pg/g fresh weight] or on volume base [ng/L]. For this purpose, results for the complete set of the 32 POPs of interest for the 2016–2019 period were considered. By far, the highest concentrations of lipophilic substances were found for DDT (expressed as “DDT complex”: sum of all detected analytes, calculated as DDT; maximum: 7100 ng/g lipid; median: 125 ng/g lipid) and for chlorinated paraffins (total CP content; maximum: 700 total CP/g lipid; median: 116 ng total CP/g lipid). PCB was next in the ranking and had on average an order of magnitude lower concentrations than the average of the total CP concentrations. The high CP concentrations were caused predominantly by MCCP. If the pooled samples from mothers without any known major contamination source nearby showed a high level of CP, some individual samples (e.g. from local population close to emission sources, as a result of exposure to consumer products or from the domestic environment) might even have significantly higher levels. The lactational intake of SCCP and MCCP of the breastfed infant in the microgram scale resulting from the mothers’ dietary and environmental background exposure should therefore motivate targeted follow-up studies and further measures to reduce exposure (including in the case of MCCP, regulatory efforts, e.g. restriction in products). Further, due to observed levels, targeted research should look at the balance among potential adverse effects against positive health aspects for the breastfed infants for three groups of POPs (dioxin-like compounds; non-dioxin-like chlorinated and brominated POPs; PFAS) regarding potentially needed updates of the WHO guidance. As an overall conclusion, the seven rounds of WHO/UNEP human milk exposure studies are the largest global survey on human tissues with a harmonized protocol spanning over the longest time period and carried out in a uniform format. Thus, these rounds are an effective tool to obtain reliable and comparable data sets on this core matrix and a key contributor to the GMP. A comprehensive set of global data covering all POPs targeted by the Stockholm Convention, in all UN Regional Groups, and timelines covering a span of up to three decades allows to evaluate data from various perspectives. A widened three-dimensional view is necessary to discuss results and can be performed using the three pillars for assessments of the comprehensive data set, namely: analytes of interest; regional aspects; time trends. This can identify possible problems for future targeted studies and interventions at the country, regional, or global level. Long-term trends give an indication of the effectiveness of measures to eliminate or reduce specific POPs. The consideration of countries with repeated participation in these studies provides the best possible database for the evaluation of temporal trends. The continuation of these exposure studies is important for securing sufficient data for reliable time trend assessments in the future. Therefore, it is highly recommended to continue this monitoring effort, particularly for POPs that are of public health concern.

This chapter details the first of the three-year term of the Committee on Information from 1950 to 1952. It elaborates how activists were bypassing the Committee on Information and making their case in the Fourth Committee, where their numerical superiority afforded them power that they could not achieve on the balanced Committee on Information. It also describes the recommendatory nature of activists that allowed the administering states to ignore them without penalty, although the General Assembly had approved a number of measures for accountability by the end of 1952. The chapter highlights proponents of a more robust UN role in the Chapter XI territories that advanced a variety of proposals to effect more uniform treatment of the dependent territories, which eroded administering state authority. It mentions the UN role in the nontrust dependent territories that had expanded beyond the confines set in the Charter.

This chapter demonstrates how the issue of the UN authority on determining a particular territory's status dominated the Committee on Information's third term. It talks about the claim of new member-states Portugal and Spain that they were not administering powers under the terms of the Charter. It also analyses repeated efforts through 1958 to empower the United Nations to declare specific territories non-self-governing and fall victim to the Western states' ability to manipulate procedure. The chapter discusses the Committee on Information's limited terms of reference, balanced composition between administering and nonadministering states, and lack of representation that moderated its tone and prevented it from pushing for the sort of international accountability the anticolonial majority desired. It highlights that the wholesale changes in UN membership began during the Tenth General Assembly in 1955 and made clear the impossibility of forever forestalling the drive for international accountability.

The tolerance allocation problem consists of choosing tolerances on dimensions of a complex assembly so that they combine into an ‘optimal state’ while fulfilling certain requirements on an allowed variation. This optimal state often coincides with the minimum manufacturing cost of the product. Sometimes it is balanced with an artificial cost that the deviation from target induces on the quality of the product. This paper suggests a multiobjective formulation of the tolerance allocation problem to automatically decompose requirements for an allowed variation on a set of critical product dimensions. This formulation is demonstrated using a rear lamp on a car with multiple requirements on allowed variation. In this case only the tolerances on locators that locates the lamp on the body are considered. The paper also reviews a selection of work that has been made on solving tolerance allocation problems.

This article proposes a balanced approach to the management of forest resources in Ukraine, based on a mathematical model developed using discrete mathematics. The algorithm of our study involved the following stages: 1) delineation of the spectrum of factors that characterize the ecological, economic, social processes of using forestry lands; 2) development of an economic system for the use of forest resources, with the simultaneous scientifically based establishment of interrelationships between the elements of the system; 3) calculation of the matrix of coefficients of pair correlations, which substantiate the relationships between the elements of the economic mechanism of the rational use of forest resources; 4) optimization of the economic graph of the use of forest resources, by distinguishing the key and secondary elements of the system; 5) economic and mathematical modeling of the rational use of forest resources. In order to apply the obtained calculations at the applied level in rational use of forest resources, we proposed appropriate strategic directions for the use of forest resources depending on the degree of impact on the environment. On the basis of the proposed management approaches of rational use of forest resources, we have developed mathematical models that allow to analyse the effectiveness of applying one or another strategy. The adequacy of the developed regression equations is confirmed by the coefficient of determination, Fisher (F) and Durbin-Watson (DW) tests. The developed mathematical models allow tracking the change of modeling indicators depending on the factor criteria and establishing their regularity. The article analyzes the use of forestry land in Ukraine based on two management approaches: an ecocentric approach and a balanced approach. The results show that the ecocentric approach can minimize the ecological situation in the short term but may negatively affect the development of the economy of nature use in Ukraine. The balanced approach, on the other hand, is the most adaptive for sustainable development. To ensure the balanced use of forest resources, the article outlines several conditions, including the regulation of market mechanisms, reduction of the anthropogenic impact, improvement of the ecological situation, and development of state programs. Fulfilling these conditions is mandatory to ensure the maximization of economic benefits from the use of forestry land with the formation of a favourable environment and the promotion of solutions to social problems of the population. The proposed approach can have positive consequences in regions where the level of forest production is low and the use of forest resources is unprofitable.

Streszczenie:
Transfer tank farms play an important role in an oil products pipeline network, which receive oil products from upstream pipelines and deliver them to downstream pipelines. The scheduling problem for oil products supply chain is very complicated because of numerous constraints to be considered. The published literatures on schedule optimization of oil products pipeline network usually focus on the batch plans of each pipeline, without consideration on the receipt and delivery schedule of transfer tank farm. In this paper, a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed for the schedule optimization of transfer tank farm. The objective of the model is to minimize switching times of the tank operations of a tank farm during a planning horizon, while fulfilling the products transmission requirements of the upstream and downstream pipelines of the tank farm. The constraints of the model include material balance, the operational rules of tanks, the topological structure constraints of the tank farm, the settling period of the oil products stored in dedicated tank and so on. To satisfy the constraint of fulfilling the specific transmission requirements of pipelines, concepts of static and dynamic time slot are proposed. A continuous time representation is used to obtain accurate optimal schedules and decrease scale of the model by reducing the number of variables. The model is solved by CPLEX solver for a transfer tank farm of an oil products pipeline network in China. Some examples are tested under different scenarios and the results show that global optimal solution can be obtain at acceptable computational costs.

Person Re-identification (ReID) is a challenging retrieval task that requires matching a person's image across non-overlapping camera views. The quality of fulfilling this task is largely determined on the robustness of the features that are used to describe the person. In this paper, we show the advantage of jointly utilizing multi-scale abstract information to learn powerful features over full body and parts. A scale normalization module is proposed to balance different scales through residual-based integration. To exploit the information hidden in non-rigid body parts, we propose an anchor-based method to capture the local contents by stacking convolutions of kernels with various aspect ratios, which focus on different spatial distributions. Finally, a well-defined framework is constructed for simultaneously learning the representations of both full body and parts. Extensive experiments conducted on current challenging large-scale person ReID datasets, including Market1501, CUHK03 and DukeMTMC, demonstrate that our proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art results.

Computational intelligence methods may be effectively used to control power system settings automatically to achieve optimal operating power systems objective functions and ensure optimal load flows while fulfilling system constraints. Economic dispatch of power systems involving large interconnected areas or zones require optimum and efficient allocation of the power to ensure efficient transferred output power to the systems in the various zones. One approach in achieving optimum dispatch of the power generated is to model the system as a Multi Area Emission Economic Dispatch (MAEED) optimization problem. One such formulation could be the minimization the running cost and emission objective functions subject to generator power limits, power balance and tie-line capacity constraints. This paper provides a survey of some of the existing research on both single area and multi area economic dispatch problems respectively and discusses the associated methods used in solving these different problems. Based on this study, we propose a candidate approach to address multi area economic dispatch problems using a semidefinite programming (SDP) method and we outline the associated computational and performance advantages.

Streszczenie:
Many energy supply systems around the world are currently undergoing a phase of transition that is mainly characterized by a continuing increase in installed renewable power generation capacities. Aiming at a better integration of these additional capacities, operators of wind farms in Germany are obliged to bindingly forecast their power production. In order to maintain the continuous stability of the electricity grid, deviations from these forecasts have to be compensated by the grid operator, who charges the wind farm operators accordingly. An alternative way to compensate for forecast errors is the utilization of flexible and dispatchable energy conversion and storage units by the wind farm operator. Heat-driven combined heat and power (CHP) units with heat storage systems offer the potential of limited short-term load adjustments to compensate forecast errors while simultaneously fulfilling their main task of providing heat. The main objectives of the present study are the evaluation of the main technical parameters and the economic viability of the described application. The study utilizes a theoretical scenario incorporating a gas turbine as a CHP unit providing heat for an industrial process, a heat storage and an associated wind farm. A generic wind farm power generation forecast error model is developed, providing realistic forecast errors for the study. Detailed models of all system components are developed and integrated into a common simulation environment, allowing for simulations of the overall system operation with varying heat storage capacities. The simulation results show that the combination of a heat-driven CHP gas turbine and a heat storage system makes a significant contribution to the compensation of the wind farm power generation forecast errors. Distinct correlations between the heat storage capacity and the remaining forecast errors are identified. The net balance energy costs resulting from the remaining demand for balance energy after the partial forecast error compensation are investigated as the main parameter for the economic viability. No distinctive correlation between the heat storage capacity and the net balance energy costs can be identified. This is the result of the stochastic character of the net balance energy price.

This paper also evaluates the potential of carbon sequestration of mineral soils through management practices in temperate agricultural systems, under dry climate regime. For fulfilling of the objective of this study, the -stock-difference method- was used for estimating the soil organic carbon stocks between two points in time, t1 (2000) and t2 (2021). The results obtained showed that the evolution of SOC stocks during the 21 years period between 2000 and 2021 recorded significant increases in most of the investigated soils, with one exception where a decrease in SOC stock by aprox. 11 % was recorded. The highest increase in SOC stock was recorded in case of a Cambic Chernozem soil, where the SOC stock value from 2021 is 63% higher as compared with the SOC value from 2000. Also, this soil recorded the highest rate for annual change in carbon stock (1.4762 tC/ha), followed by Eutric Cambisol (1.4286 tC/ha), Chernozem (1.3810 tC/ha) and Fluvisol (1.0476 tC/ha). The presented results showed that the Cambic Chernozem has the highest potential for CO2 removal from the atmosphere with an annual rate of 5.41 tCO2/ha. Also, high potentials for CO2 sequestration with accumulation rates of 5.24 tCO2/ha and respectively 5.06 tCO2/ha have the Eutric Cambisol and Chernozem soils.

Multiphase flow is prevalent in many industrial processes. Therefore, accurate and efficient modeling of multiphase flow is essential to the understanding of these processes as well as the development of technologies to handle and manage them. In the petroleum industry, the occurrence and consequence thereof associated with such hydrodynamic processes are encountered in offshore facilities, surface facilities as well as reservoir applications. In this paper, we consider the modeling of these processes with special consideration to the transport of petroleum products through pipelines. Multiphase hydrodynamic modeling is usually a trade-off between maximizing the accuracy level while minimizing the computational time required. The most fundamental modeling effort developed to achieve this goal is based on applying simplifications to the basic physical laws, as defined by continuum mechanics, governing these processes. However, the modeling of multiphase flow processes requires the coupling of these basic laws with a thermodynamic phase behavior model. This paper highlights the impact of the techniques used to computationally couple the system’s thermodynamics with its fluid mechanics while paying close attention to the trade off mentioned above. It will consider the consequences of the simplifications applied, as well as inherent deficiencies associated with such simplifications. Special consideration is given to the conservation of mass as well as the terms that govern its transfer between the phases. Furthermore, the implications related to the common simplification of isothermal conditions are studied, highlighting the loss of accuracy in the material balance associated with this computational time-saving assumption. This paper concludes by suggesting remedies to these problems, supported by results, showing considerable improvement in fulfilling both the basic constrains which are minimizing time and maximizing accuracy.

Thermo-acoustic instabilities and, more generally, the noise associated with combustion dynamics in high-performance combustion systems are of increasing concern to gas turbine manufacturers. One way to hinder these phenomena is to improve acoustic damping. A perforated plate with a bias flow can be very efficient in fulfilling this function, as long as it is properly designed. This system operates by converting incident acoustic energy into kinetic energy of the flow field, which is then quickly dissipated by turbulence. However this mechanism is not entirely understood, especially at high amplitude pressure fluctuations. The present study deals with the different responses of an orifice traversed by a bias flow, in linear and nonlinear regimes, when subjected to incident soundwaves. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is used to analyze the flow field through the aperture, calculate its reflection and transmission coefficients and analyze sound absorption as a function of the perturbation level. It is shown that the velocity fluctuation level u0′ within the perforation plays a key role in the dissipation process. A transition occurs when u0′ exceeds the mean bias flow velocity within the orifice u0′ > u0 and reverse flow is observed, leading to major changes in the balance between reflection and transmission processes. It is however shown that absorption remains approximately independent of the sound level even at the high amplitudes simulated in the present paper up to u0′/u0 ∼ 10. The evolution with the perturbation level of the unsteady pressure loss through the perforation is then examined using different analytical models. Predictions are compared with simulation results. Differences are observed in the transition between the linear and nonlinear regimes.

Streszczenie:
Small-bore pipes inside manifold structures are designed to be flexible. The piping must absorb thermal and pressure loading, as well as installation tolerances, well growth and in some cases stroking and/or other temporarily imposed displacement controlled conditions. Depending on well conditions and functional requirements the piping is often highly utilised statically. Vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) are on the other hand directly related to the frequency of the piping, and the more flexible a system is, the more prone it is to respond to cyclic loading induced by waves and current. Generally small-bore piping responds easily to VIV since the VIV onset flow velocity is directly proportional to the diameter. Small-bore piping have by default very small diameters, therefore the onset value for VIV is lowered compared to systems with larger diameters. In order to mitigate this environmental loading effect, it is favourable to increase the frequency of the system. Increasing the frequency is however normally done by making the system stiffer, more rigid, which generally is not desirable since this in turn increases the level of static utilisation. The current industry practice for VIV design of small-bore piping systems is to apply onset criteria. Onset criteria are in themselves applicable for small-bore systems, but they are very conservative, and DNV has in projects encountered several systems where a balance between onset of VIV and static utilisation was not obtainable. As temperatures, well growth and operational pressures increase with more complicated well conditions, the challenges with flexibility versus rigidity in small-bore piping will only increase, and previous design methodologies using typical onset criteria will be more difficult to apply successfully. There are many possible solutions to this problem; such as shielding, clever layout design, and/or direct VIV mitigation measures mounted on the pipes. This paper proposes a general methodology for advanced fatigue calculations to decrease the level of conservatism, and introduces some mitigation techniques which have been successfully applied in projects for systems where both onset criteria and fatigue utilisation criteria fail, and where fulfilling them is not possible within the confines of acceptable static utilisation.
