At present, in China’s automobile manufacturing industry, the main problem is the manufacturing of parts and on-board equipment. Most domestic industries still adopt the step-by-step production of parts, and each manufacturer customizes the required parts according to the scale and production needs of its own enterprise. This situation is easy to cause unstable quality of parts and serious unqualified quality inspection problems. Based on the above situation, we study the high-quality development, parts quality optimization, and remanufacturing of auto parts manufacturing industry with the support of machine learning model. Firstly, based on the analysis of auto parts procurement and production mode, this paper briefly describes the basic problems in the manufacturing process of auto parts in China. Machine learning technology is used to count the changes of quality data in manufacturing, and the quality standard is reflected in the learning model. The machine learning algorithm is used to diagnose and analyze the faults of auto parts and equipment, so as to turn high-quality production to high-quality production. The projection feature extraction algorithm is used to quantitatively analyze the low quality state of automobile parts. Finally, 3D printing technology is used to solve the quality manufacturing problem of parts with high-precision requirements, and the later materials are processed again to achieve the purpose of remanufacturing planning. The results show that the transformation of auto parts manufacturing to high quality can improve the economic development of the auto industry and meet the needs of modern society. The data analysis of parts controlled by machine learning model can help the precision manufacturing of automobile parts.

The automobile industry is an obvious indication of a country's economic development. Because it requires high performance and quality parts, it is also an innovation and comprehension intensive sector. Because of its deep forward and backward links with many key segments of the economy, the automobile sector is also prominent in India. Because of the strong supply support provided by various auto ancillary manufacturing companies, this sector has a strong multiplier effect and has the potential to be a driver of economic growth. The auto ancillary market is focused on the production and sale of transitional equipment and automotive parts used in the manufacture of automobiles. It is an important part of India's automotive industry. Such industries allow vehicle manufacturers to concentrate on their core competencies. The auto ancillary manufacturing Industry, with its high growth prospects, is one of the emerging industries in Indian markets. The Altman Z rating is a beneficial expedient for identifying a company's economic resilience and the probability of insolvency. The Z rating method was once used in this to find out to check the economic fitness of Indian auto ancillary manufacturing companies. The economic facts of 10 auto ancillary manufacturing companies listed groups on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have been used to study each unique and rising market Altman Z rating formulae. The findings point out that not all the enterprises listed on the NSE are financially healthy. According to the study, some of the Indian auto ancillary manufacturing companies are sound and dependable without few companies, and some of the auto ancillary manufacturing companies are not likely to face monetary misery or insolvency soon.

Purpose With the improvement of economic level, car ownership is growing, and the number of scrapped automobiles is increasing. Therefore, evaluation research for auto parts remanufacturing is particularly important. The purpose of this paper is to construct the evaluation index system of auto parts remanufacturing and research the grey clustering theory. The grey fixed weight clustering evaluation is used to evaluate automobile engine remanufacturability. Design/methodology/approach According to the policies and regulations of China about remanufacturing, economic, technical, resources, energy and the environment, four indexes are selected to set up the evaluation standard of auto parts remanufacturing scheme. Grey fixed weight clustering method is used to evaluate remanufacturability of the auto parts. Firstly, number index and grey determine the whitenization weight function, then based on the clustering weight of each index, the clustering coefficient matrix is calculated. Finally, the class that certain object belongs to, according to the clustering coefficient matrix is determined. Findings Results show that constructed indexes of auto parts remanufacturing scheme can be used for effective evaluation. And the proposed fixed weight grey cluster model can aggregate all indexes information well. Therefore, the proposed indexes and model in this paper are effective and can be used for auto parts remanufacturing. Practical implications According to the requirements of the current situation in China, this paper puts forward a method based on grey clustering decision, to evaluate different auto parts remanufacturing schemes, for manufacturing enterprises to provide theoretical basis for remanufacturing production, in order to realize the reasonable configuration of resources. Originality/value This paper firstly establishes the evaluation index system of auto parts remanufacturing, the grey clustering theory is introduced into the evaluation of remanufacturing. The fixed-weight grey cluster model is proposed to aggregate indexes’ information.

Due to the slowdown of the world economy, the growth of the world's automobile manufacturing industry has declined. As a result, the production rate of automotive parts tends to decrease as well. The objective of this study was to investigate the guidelines for managing the automotive parts manufacturing for sustainable success. The study was conducted qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the study revealed four components of the management of the automotive parts manufacturing industry; namely, 1) development of servitization, 2) development of organization, 3) development of labor skill, and 4) development of technology. As for the analysis of the second-order confirmatory factor model developed, it was found that the model passed the assessment criteria and was consistent with the empirical data.

This paper aims to demonstrate how the adoption of a continuous improvement program, based on lean manufacturing tools, can benefit the production of automotive filters for heavy vehicles, considering improved productivity and reduced operational waste, with a consequent increase in effectiveness and cost reduction. In this study we used the lean manufacturing tools, mainly kaizen and value stream mapping. During its development, the application of a kaizen project in a production line of automotive filters for heavy vehicles, aimed obtaining increased productivity and better distribution of physical space, through the reduction of rework time, reduction of downtime due to maintenance and reduction of setup time. The use of lean manufacturing tools, through the instruments presented in this study, guaranteed the viability of improvements in the productive sector. This work allowed the observation of a consistent improvement in production capacity, with productivity increase, through the improvement of the operational time and reduction of time of waste. The best distribution of physical space and the best arrangement of items used by the production process were also achieved through the consolidation of two production lines.

All powered vehicles have a braking system adopted according to the type of vehicle and work for which they are designed. In Ecuador, there is a great variety of auto parts that are proposed as alternative replacement, varying in cost and quality. This research aims to quantitatively analyze the characteristics of the brake disc material between original and alternate auto parts. This research analyzes three brake disc samples (A, B, C) from different manufacturing sources, using the ASTM E415-08 spectrometry test and the metallography test under the ASTM A247-16A standard. The spectrometry detects 15 elements in each sample, the carbon equivalent of sample A is 18% and 20% higher in relation to sample B and C, which significantly influences the microstructure. The metallographic tests indicate a pearlitic matrix in each sample, however, there is a different distribution and size of the graphite flakes. According to the SAE J431 standard, each auto part meets the material conditions for the brake disc function.

The manufacturing industry is developing rapidly due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. If a piece of bearing equipment, which is one of the essential parts of the manufacturing industry, fails, it will hinder the production of the manufacturing industry, which will lead to huge losses for the company. To prevent this, this paper implements a 1 Dimension-Convolution Neural Networks-Long Short-Term Memory (1D-CNN-LSTM) Auto-Encoder model for fault diagnosis of bearing data. The 1D-CNN-LSTM Auto-Encoder model showed high accuracy of 58 to 100 percent for eccentric bearing data that are difficult to visually diagnose as faults. In the future, we would like to extend this to a real-time failure diagnosis system that can remotely monitor the condition of the bearing equipment through real-time communication with the cloud server and test bed.

Aiming at the selection of modern auto parts design schemes, an evaluation method of automobile parts design scheme for intelligent manufacturing is proposed. Considered the environment-friendly factors and traditional manufacturing factors, the evaluation index system of automobile parts design scheme was established, which taken technology, environment, economy and quality reliability as the first level evaluation index, and 12 second level indexes under the first level index. The game theory method was used to comprehensively consider the proportion of subjective and objective weights to determine the composite weight of each index. Aimed at the certainty and uncertainty of the evaluation index, the set pair analysis relative closeness method was used to calculate the composite weight and established the model. Three sets of automobile panel design schemes of a company were selected, and the mathematical model was used to calculate them. With the help of C language program, the advantages and disadvantages of the three design schemes were evaluated, and the optimal scheme was obtained. The calculation example proves that the method is true and effective, conforms to the background of modern intelligent manufacturing, and the calculation is simple, and has good feasibility and practicability.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify the causal relationship between the independent variables such as process quality and product innovation in regard to the dependent variable of competitiveness, in the manufacturing sector of the automotive industry, specifically for Tier 1 auto parts manufacturing companies in the state of Nuevo León, México.Design/methodology/approachBased on a thorough review of the literature, an instrument was designed to measure the competitiveness of automotive industry manufacturing; it was applied to Tier 1 suppliers of automotive parts in the state of Nuevo León, México. Various statistical analysis tests were applied to the results; first, Cronbach's alpha to determine the reliability of the instrument, and next, a factor analysis to measure construct validity. In addition, a multiple linear regression analysis was carried out to identify the causal relationships between the variables analysed.FindingsThis study found that process quality as well as product innovation have independent and positive causal relationships with respect to competitiveness in automotive manufacturing.Research limitations/implicationsThe limitations of this paper are its focus on a single manufacturing sector, application in a single country and small sample size.Practical implicationsCompanies that supply automotive parts will be able to invest in the key elements of quality and innovation while focusing their efforts on reinforcing their competitiveness.Originality/valueAuto parts suppliers will be able to perform specific actions to improve their quality processes through lean manufacturing and quality assurance practices and by designing new and innovative products that will enhance their competitiveness.

The main purpose of this study is to analyse and to compare how the lean manufacturing changes, applied in the production system, are reflected in company´s financial reports. This case study practically compares the traditional accounting reports with the ones purposed by the Lean Accounting (LA) methodology version. The motivation of this case study started with the statement of unit managers of a Lean Manufacturing (LM) company, here called “lean enterprise”. They said that one of the greatest challenges, after the modifications in the production system, is the financial demonstration in costs reports. After change the production system from “push” to “pull”, the main structure for a cost per unit calculation and fix cost “dilution” are ruined. There is no mass production anymore, “the more, the better” philosophy does not lasts and the encountered results corroborate with the literature in regarding of the need of adapting the cost controlling system in Lean Enterprises.

Purpose: The lean manufacturing can be an important ally of companies to enhance their competitiveness, since it can support companies to eliminate wastes and continuously improve their processes. In this context, the main purpose of this study was to analyze difficulties observed by operational level employees of auto parts companies during lean tools training.Design/methodology/approach: A panel of specialists indicated 18 tools required for lean journey training. These tools were used to structure a questionnaire to perform a survey. The survey was conducted with 77 lean training experienced professionals from two auto parts companies. Data collected was analyzed through descriptive statistics and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), to rank the tools according to the difficulty levels observed by the respondents.Findings: In general, operational level employees presented difficulties to understand the concepts of all analyzed tools. Comparatively, Lean Leadership and Constraints Management were those most difficult for them.Originality/value: The results present here can be used by leaders for providing lean training and for academics in futures studies.

Reordering motor vehicle spare parts for the purposes of stock replenishment is an important function of the parts manager in the typical motor dealership. Meaningful reordering requires a reliable forecast of the future demand for items. Production planning and control in remanufacturing are more complex than those in traditional manufacturing. Developing a reliable forecasting process is the first step for optimization of the overall planning process. In remanufacturing, forecasting the timing of demands is one of the critical issues. The current article presents the result of examining the effectiveness of demand forecasting by time series analysis in auto parts remanufacturing. A variety of alternative forecasting techniques were evaluated for this purpose with the aim of selecting one optimal technique to be implemented in an automatic reordering module of a real time computerized inventory management system.

Traditionally hand stitches seams also indicate high quality of the suit. Real hand stitch machines imitate had stitch 209. Depending on the length of the top and bottom stitch parts the machines can create pick stitches, saddle stitches and other stitch patterns. One group of the machines create stitches by help of a hooked needle, other machines use a double pointed needle. The machines work with limited length threads, most often with 90 cm and 120 cm long ones. The hand stitch seams can to be sewn with special waxed silk threads or regular threads. In a vehicle, rattle noise may occur when driving on bumpy roads due to clearance between parts of steering gear systems. The rattle noise is perceived by the drivers' ears and it can be the cause of a repair campaign. In order to reduce rattle noise, the dimensions of clearance between parts are optimally designed. Also, in the development stage, general auto parts companies manage rattle noise below a certain level. However, it is impossible to measure noise for all products at the production stage due to cost and time issues. In this paper, the noise prediction model using the neural network model for all products based on design factors and the data of manufacturing execution system was introduced. In addition, the main factors contributing to rattle noise were analyzed in the process of creating the model. By referring to the main factors contributing to noise, it helps in the design of the steering gear to reduce the rattle noise value.

However, the transition to linear economy at circular economy has been slow in literature, particularly there are relatively few studies that have focused on the relationship of circular economy practices and growth of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, for this reason this study's main objective is to fill this existing gap in the literature. In addition, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 400 companies in the automotive and auto parts industry in Mexico, analyzing the data set using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation models. The results obtained follow that the circular economy has a significant positive impact on the growth level of small manufacturing firms in the automotive and autoparts industries.

The article describes the advantages of using modern polymer materials for the manufacture of auto parts in the automotive industry. The authors have developed and presented a systematization of modern polymer materials, which are most often used in the automotive industry for the manufacture of both body and engine compartment (under hood) parts, and parts for internal equipment of a car. The studies made it possible for the authors to introduce a characteristic of the modern polymer materials properties that could to be used for the manufacture of a particular car part, as well as indicate brief chemical names (abbreviations) of polymer materials and their compositions (taking into account the requirements of world practice), indicating some properties, namely: heating resistance, solubility in organic solvents, etc. It is indicated that the use of polymer materials in the automotive industry is based directly on the properties of the polymer material and the requirements for a particular auto part. In one of the tables, a list of polymer materials and parts that are made of a certain type of polymer material is outlined, in another table the information on feedback regarding the variation of polymer materials in the process of manufacturing a specific car part is gathered. Special attention is paid to the example of deciphering the stamp meaning, which is stamped on the inner surface of some polymer parts. The stamp reflects information on the type of polymer material from which the auto part is made, the presence of fillers and amplifiers in its composition, as well as their percentage. In addition, a list of the main types of modified polypropylene, a brief designations of polypropylene various modifications and their application in the automotive industry are presented. For the ease of use while forensic practice, the information on the properties and possibilities of using the most commonly used polymer materials in the automotive industry is summarized in table.

Eliminating warpage in injection molded polymeric parts is one of the most important problems in the injection molding industry today. This situation is critical in geometries that are particularly susceptible to warping due to their geometric features, and this occurs with topologies of great length and slenderness with high changes in thickness. These features are, in these special geometries, impossible to manufacture with traditional technologies to meet the dimensional and sustainable requirements of the industry. This paper presents an innovative green conformal cooling system that is specifically designed for parts with slender geometric shapes that are highly susceptible to warping. Additionally, the work presented by the authors investigates the importance of using highly conductive inserts made of steel alloys in combination with the use of additively manufactured conformal channels for reducing influential parameters, such as warpage, cooling time, and residual stresses in the complex manufacturing of long and slender parts. The results of this real industrial case study indicated that the use of conformal cooling layouts decreased the cycle time by 175.1 s—66% below the current cooling time; the temperature gradient by 78.5%—specifically, 18.16 ºC; the residual stress by 39.78 MPa—or 81.88 %; and the warpage by 6.9 mm—or 90.5%. In this way, it was possible to achieve a final warping in the complex geometry studied of 0.72 mm, which was under the maximum value required at the industrial level of 1 mm. The resulting values obtained by the researchers present a turning point from which the manufacturing and sustainability in the injection molding of said plastic geometries is possible, and they take into account that the geometric manufacturing features analyzed will present a great demand in the coming years in the auto parts manufacturing industry.

An original equipment market (OEM) in Thailand mainly imports thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV) from abroad that leads to a high manufacturing cost. To reduce the cost and to create value-added products from a plastic scrap, therefore, this research aim is to observe a possibility of using TPV and recycled polypropylene (rPP) blends as a raw material for OEM. The blends with various rPP loadings were successfully prepared through a traditional twin-screw extruder. Proportions between TPV and rPP were adjusted to determine the optimal flow and mechanical properties for productions of different auto parts. The blends were tested for studying rheology and mechanical properties: tensile; hardness; flexural; and creep behavior. All tests resulted in discussions about the feasibility of using TPV/rPP blends with respect to auto part specifications in real applications. Test results suggested that the TPV/rPP blends meet the requirements of specific automotive applications. Thermal property and morphological analysis were also carried out to have more understanding about changes in mechanical properties.

Flexibility in the design process becomes an absolute necessity in a smart factory in the era of industrial manufacturing 4.0. CAD technology with a 3D modeling capability serves as a backbone in the design process in a manufacturing industry. Here, iLogic serving as an add-on of Inventor software will be combined with a Decision Support System (DSS) to build a DSS application system, namely "Panel Auto System". This system will help an engineer modify a 3D model wall-mounting panel to fulfill a non-standard order from his or her customers. This 3D-model database from various parts of the wall-mounting panel is generated from the 3D modeling. Then, by employing the if/then/else rules in the iLogic, the system can modify a 3D model wall-mounting panel data standard and serves as a geometric 3D model based on the customer’s order. The system works well and has been validated. The efficiency of the modeling process using the "Panel Auto System" increases its time efficiency up to 97,6 % compared to a manual process. Therefore, this system can increase the engineer’s productivity in the design of an in-wall mounting panel, and the customers can get the order of their 3D model faster.

Auto-body lightweight is becoming an important trend of energy saving and emission reduction. Various materials assembled together would be used to fabricate the auto-body to satisfy this demand. However, the assembly dimensional quality is difficult to be controlled in the real processing due to the huge differences in material properties. Therefore, it is necessary to control and analyze the welding deformation of aluminum alloy and steel. In this work, the orthogonal design experiment has been adopted to analyze the welding deformation of steel–aluminum sheet parts. Subsequently, the response surface model is proposed to establish the relationship between welding deformation and welding parameters by finite element analysis, which is verified by physical experiments again. Meanwhile, the anti-deformation method is also used to decrease the assembly deformation successfully. And the case of Z-shaped planes is applied to further illustrate the proposed method of this work. Finally, the results show that both the methods have a good simulation effect and a high prediction accuracy for the assembly dimensional quality.
