Streszczenie:
Oceania is characterized by the diversity of countries and by highly variable provision of mental health services and community mental health care. Countries such as Australian and New Zealand have well-developed mental health services with a high level of provision, but many less developed countries lack mental health infrastructure. Some developing countries such as Samoa and Tonga have passed mental health legislation with provision for community treatment orders, but this legal measure is probably not a useful mechanism for advancing mental health care in developing countries. Instead, efforts to improve provision of care seem best directed to the primary care sector, and to the general health workforce, rather than to specialists. The UN CRPD offer extensions of human rights to people with mental illness and most countries in Oceania have signed it. However, the absence of a regional rights tribunal potentially limits the realization of those rights.

Streszczenie:
The promotion of mental well-being is an overarching aim of music therapy as a psychosocial practice. Music therapy is offered from a key principle that central to a person’s well-being is their need for meaningful relating. Music therapy can offer an alternative pathway of expression and connection with others that can help develop one’s capacity to engage with and maintain relationships outside of the therapeutic work. Music therapy can be offered as a stand-alone therapeutic process or as an adjunct to other standard mental health treatment. In the early years of music therapy’s development as a profession in Europe, Australia, and the US, it was introduced in large institutions through programmes that focused on the treatment of mental illness. Music therapy has now become a diverse practice that encompasses preventative care through community based models, wellness programmes, as well as continuing to provide services within mental health care contexts.

Cloyes, Kristin G., i Kathryn A. Burns. Aging prisoners and the provision of correctional mental health. Oxford University Press, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780199360574.003.0057.

Streszczenie:
The incarcerated population is aging. Newly arrested individuals and those aging in prison from mandatory lengthy sentences contribute to this dynamic. Screening for impairment and developing effective interventions and treatment for the incarcerated elderly has become a substantial challenge. The number of U.S. prisoners aged 65 or older grew at 94 times the rate of the overall prison population between 2007-2012. In 2011 7.9% of state and federal inmates were 55 or older; there were 26,700 over age 65. The number of inmates over 60 years of age in U.K. prisons increased by 120% between 2002 and 2013. Similar growth trends are reported in Sweden, Japan, Australia and Canada. This growth is complicated by the fact that chronological age does not necessarily match ‘health age’ or health status in prison. As a result, many prison systems have adjusted their definition of ‘elderly’ down to age 55 (and some as low as 40) to reflect the relatively poor health status of aging men and women in their institutions. Typical correctional health services in prisons across the U.S. are already hard-pressed to keep up with increasing demands for care of aging inmates. The responsibility to provide adequate health services for prisoners remains despite shrinking local, county, state and federal budgets. This chapter reviews the current status and prevalence of the incarcerated elderly, and presents best practice models for their care.

Streszczenie:
This book covers the implementation of telemental health (TMH) in resource-limited global settings. This book focuses on the current state of the technology, the different modalities, and the emergence of mobile-health. The global applicability, especially in resource-limited settings, is a new frontier for implementation sciences, and one that is proposed to reduce the mental health gap. The book reviews the global application of TMH internationally with examples from each continent. Case studies of TMH implementation from India, Taiwan, Africa, the Middle East, and more are layed out in this book. In addition, the book discusses provision of such care to underserved resource-limited populations globally, such as refugees in Denmark, Native Americans in the United States, and Aboriginal populations in Australia. This book promises a collective review of global TMH and hopes to provide anchorage for scholars and researches interested in this developing field.
