Streszczenie:
College athletes consume more alcohol and experience more alcohol-related consequences than non-athlete populations. Freshman athletes are at an even higher risk for alcohol-related problems as they learn to deal with the demands of college athletics. Researchers have suggested that the development of appropriate alcohol policy may be a useful strategy to reduce alcohol problems among athletes; however, study results are inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of team, athletic department, and university policy on college athletes’ alcohol consumption. A survey of 263 college freshman athletes from two NCAA universities measured alcohol consumption and perception of alcohol policies at the university, athletic department, and team levels. Results indicated that athletes who abstain from alcohol were more likely to believe in strong enforcement and the desire for greater policy restrictions at the university, athletic department, and team levels. Results also revealed differences in alcohol consumption patterns between team vs. individual sports. These findings suggest a need to develop extensive, strictly enforced alcohol policies to influence alcohol behavior of college freshman athletes.

This paper presents an overview of the Husky Sport Nutrition Program at the University of Washington. This program is a component of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Total Student–Athlete Program, an NCAA-sponsored CHAMPS/Life Skills Program that provides life skills assistance to student–athletes. Successful integration of a sport nutrition program requires an understanding of the athletic culture, physiological milestones, and life stressors faced by college athletes. The sport nutritionist functions as an educator, counselor, and administrator. Team presentations and individual nutrition counseling provide athletes with accurate information on healthy eating behaviors for optimal performance. For women's sports, a multidisciplinary team including the sport nutritionist, team physician, clinical psychologist, and athletic trainer work to prevent and treat eating disorders. Case studies are presented illustrating the breadth of nutrition-related issues faced by a sport nutritionist working with college athletes.

This abstract explores the critical intersection of sport psychology and team management, emphasizing the importance of mental fortitude and psychological resilience in the pursuit of athletic excellence. Beyond physical prowess, this research underscores the role of psychological factors—motivation, confidence, focus, stress management, and mental health—in determining athletic outcomes. It advocates for a holistic approach to athlete development, integrating sport psychology into team management to optimize both performance and wellbeing. Through a comprehensive examination of empirically supported psychological strategies, including mindfulness, visualization, cognitive-behavioral interventions, and motivational interviewing, the study aims to offer practical, evidence-based recommendations for teams and coaches. This includes addressing individual and team performance enhancements, psychological assessments, goal setting, and mental imagery, as well as tackling psychological challenges like injuries, eating disorders, and career transitions. The research also delves into the dynamics between individual athletes and team objectives, the pivotal coach-athlete relationship, team cohesion, and the broader implications of mental training in athletic rehabilitation. By fostering an environment where athletes can excel and maintain their mental health, this theme ventures into redefining team management paradigms through the lens of sport science and psychology.

The study of Coaching behavior and athlete team performance towards an optimal coaching framework for maximizing team excellence determines the level of awareness of team athletes based on the sports they value according to the coaching method of their coaches. The findings presented offer valuable insights into the differences in the assessment of coaching behavior among student-athletes based on various demographic and athletic profiles. Firstly, the significant differences observed based on the sex of the respondents highlight the importance of considering gender dynamics in coaching practices within the athletic program. Coaches may need to adopt tailored approaches to address the distinct needs and preferences of male and female student-athletes, ensuring that coaching strategies are inclusive and effectively meet the diverse needs of all athletes. Secondly, the variations in perceptions of coaching behavior across different types of sports underscore the importance of sport-specific coaching approaches. Coaches may need to adapt their coaching strategies to align with the unique requirements and dynamics of each sport, fostering a tailored and effective coaching environment for athletes. Additionally, the influence of the length of years as athletes on perceptions of coaching behavior suggests the importance of ongoing athlete development and support throughout their athletic journey. It reveals valuable insights into the attitudes and behaviors that contribute to effective teamwork. Team performance, concerning team members' skills and learning, epitomizes the collective proficiency of individuals in leveraging their diverse skill sets, knowledge, and learning experiences to achieve shared objectives.

Streszczenie:
Coach turnover is frequent, especially in collegiate sports in the United States. To date, however, there is limited research on how coach turnover might affect student-athletes. Accordingly, we aimed to qualitatively explore how coach turnover might influence student-athletes’ psychosocial states and team dynamics in collegiate sports. Eleven athletic teams at a Midwestern Division I National Collegiate Athletic Association institution having undergone coach turnover during the past four years participated in the study. Four coaches and 21 student-athletes representing both individual and team sports, as well as two administrative staff members, participated in semi-structured interviews (coaches and administrators) and focus groups (student-athletes). Inductive data analysis revealed four first level themes: coach style and background, athlete affective states, team dynamics, and program culture. Our analysis suggested that, depending on their gender and coaching style, coaches might have a positive or negative impact on athletes’ affective states (e.g. positive and negative affect), team dynamics (e.g. cohesion; athlete leadership), and the program culture. Thus, practitioners might facilitate the positive impact of coaching turnover by assessing whether the new coach is a ‘good fit’ at the individual (micro), team (meso), and environmental (macro) level of analysis.

The type of sport practiced may shape the athletic career, considered as the period in which an athlete is dedicated to obtaining their maximum performance in one or more sports. The aim of this study was to compare athletic careers and retirement in individual and team sports. Four hundred and ten former elite athletes (38.5 ± 7.6 years) answered an ad hoc questionnaire; 61.5% were men and 38.5% women; 45.1% were from individual sports, while 54.9% were from team sports. It emerged that the age of maximum sports performance and the retirement age occurred significantly later in team sports than in individual sports (U = 15,042 and U = 12,624.5, respectively p < 0.001). Team sports athletes combined their athletic career with work to a greater extent than those from individual sports (χ2 (3, N = 408) = 14.2; p = 0.003; Cv = 0.187). Individual sports athletes trained more hours per week (30.0 ± 11.7 h) than those involved in team sports (19.2 ± 10.7 h; U = 9682; p < 0.001). These athletes (team sports) were in a better economic and working situation at retirement transition (χ2 (3, N = 406) = 23.9; p < 0.001; Cv = 0.242). Individual sports athletes perform physical activity more frequently than team sports athletes (U = 16,267.5; p = 0.045), while team sports athletes participate more actively in veteran competitions (χ2 (1, N = 390) = 3.9; p = 0.047; Cv = 0.104) and more frequently attend events as spectators (χ2 (1, N = 390) = 8.4; p = 0.004; Cv = 0.151). dual career support providers should be aware that team sports athletes enjoy a longer athletic career, and they are in a better position to face the retirement transition than individual sports athletes.

College campuses are unique spaces, with college towns having their own distinctive culture. However, attendance at intercollegiate athletic events has declined in recent years. Long-term strategies for building faculty fanbases are uncommon, yet, faculty maintain high organizational identification, positively impacting brand loyalty and purchase intentions. As such, university faculty may be an ideal target market for athletic departments through relationship marketing. Utilizing Allport’s (1954) Intergroup Contact Theory, this study examined faculty motivation to attend university athletic events regarding their university identification, perception of college athletes, and motivation for sport consumption. Two hundred and thirty-eight faculty members at Power Five institutions completed the Motivation Scale for Sport Consumption, the Points of Attachment Index, and the Perceptions of Athletic Departments Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics suggested that faculty are motivated differently than other fans, as the physical skills of athletes served as the strongest motivator for faculty. The multiple regression analysis provided evidence to conclude higher levels of both faculty university athletic team identification and their perceptions of student-athletes contributed to increased athletic event motivation scores. Based on the results, in order to increase faculty motivation to attend athletic events, marketers should consider designing innovative marketing efforts specifically for faculty members and utilizing marketing techniques to increase faculty’s perceptions of college athletes.

AbstractCollege athletes across north America are often known on their respective college campuses for their athleticism, and spend a considerable amount of hours weekly engaging in their respective sport through practices, meetings, travelling and meals, to name a few. It is no wonder it is difficult for these students to feel fully engaged and connected on university campuses as students. Female college athletes in particular, who often are not athletes in revenue-generating sports, often feel left behind as students and isolated as athletes. The purpose of the current study was to examine female collegiate athletes’ experience with belonging in a university setting. This qualitative inquiry utilised consensual qualitative research to explore 14 female student athletes’ experience of belonging on a university campus. The results of the data analysis yielded the following domains or themes: athletic team culture, athletic department culture, campus support and involvement, female athlete identity, and individual athlete experience. The most salient finding was that these female athletes suggested that their sense of belonging on campus was almost exclusively related to their experience as an athlete and their athletic team.

Athlete monitoring enables sports science practitioners to collect information to determine how athletes respond to training loads (TL) and the demands of competition. To date, recommendations for females are often adapted from their male counterparts. There is currently limited information available on TL monitoring in female Gaelic team sports in Ireland. The collection and analysis of female athlete monitoring data can provide valuable information to support the development of female team sports. Athletic monitoring can also support practitioners to help minimize risk of excessive TL and optimize potential athletic performance. The aims of this narrative review are to provide: (i) an overview of TL athlete monitoring in female team sports, (ii) a discussion of the potential metrics and tools used to monitor external TL and internal TL, (iii) the advantages and disadvantages of TL modalities for use in Gaelic team sports, and (iv) practical considerations on how to monitor TL to aid in the determination of meaningful change with female Gaelic team sports athletes.

There is no agreement between interpreters as to whether the verb συναθλέω in Phil. 1.27 and 4.3 presupposes an athletic or a military metaphor. Given that first-century athletes were unlikely to compete as a team, the prefix συν- often puzzles those who interpret συναθλέω as an athletic term, and it is also one of the reasons why others opt for a military background. While the use of the verb alone does not provide any certainty as to the presupposed imagery, in this article I argue that the presence of the prefix συν- does not preclude athletics as a plausible option. Even though team sports were not part of official athletic contests, based on epigraphic evidence I suggest that, in spite of fierce competition, there may have existed a sense of fellowship between ancient athletes in the Roman period. In addition, it is likely that it was enhanced by the existence of a ‘worldwide’ athletic association.

Streszczenie:
This applied dissertation was designed to provide up-to-date information for the athletic trainers and administrative staff in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II athletic programs. The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) has created recommendations and guidelines for appropriate medical coverage of intercollegiate athletics. The challenge for these athletic programs is to create a sports medicine model that will meet these recommendations and guidelines. The researcher developed an interdisciplinary sports medicine team model that would provide the appropriate medical coverage and health care for student athletes at a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II athletic program. Use of an interdisciplinary sports medicine team model provides athletic training departments with information in eight areas: (a) athletes’ readiness to participate; (b) risk management and prevention; (c) recognition, evaluation, and immediate treatment of athletic injuries and illnesses; (d) rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries; (e) psychosocial intervention and referral; (f) nutritional aspects of injuries and illnesses; (g) health care administration; and (h) professional development to maintain knowledge and skills. The researcher sent out an online survey to each of the head athletic trainers of the Division II Sunshine State Conference. The survey was based on the recommendations and guidelines identified in the NATA Appropriate Medical Coverage Official Statement. The online survey was followed by a one-on-one interview of each head athletic trainer. This information was used to determine what health care models are presently in place at the Sunshine State Conference athletic departments. As a result of this research, a model for the planning and development of an interdisciplinary sports medicine team within a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II college or university campus, based on identified best practices was completed.

Human potential is a fascinating concept. The saying, ‘you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it,’ has certainly passed through my ears on many occasion. I look at some of the greatest athletes in recent history: Michael Phelps, Kelly Slater, Roger Federer, Kobe Bryant in awe of what they have achieved and wonder: what makes them so great? How have they managed to achieve what they have? Undoubtedly, incredible natural talent, physical stature, and mental attributes such as determination, perseverance and self-belief contribute to their success. But I’ve always believed there’s more to it; they all possess the ability to achieve a superlative mental focus during competition. But how do they put their entire focus on the task at hand in such highly stressful and physically demanding situations? Could it be that they have the ability to achieve a heightened state of mindfulness? In 2014, the Seattle Seahawks achieved the unthinkable and won the 48th Super Bowl; the 2014 NFL championship. Head coach, Pete Carroll, attributed their success to the help of Michael Gervais, one of the world’s leading performance psychologists. In an interview following the Super Bowl win, Gervais was asked, ‘Obviously your end goal was winning, but what were your strategies with the Seahawks?’ At that point, Gervais’s tone of voice changed, almost concerned, and responded: ‘See, we don’t talk about winning. The goal for us is to be fully engaged at a really rich level to figure out and explore what is possible in your own life. And, if you get enough people resonating in that space, winning just happens as a result of this.’ Michael Gervais brought mindfulness training to the Seattle Seahawks and it has since become an integral part of their training regime.

This study contributes to the sports psychology literature by examining an existing paucity in the application of Emotional Intelligence (EI) theory and models to the athletic domain. Four branches of the ability model of EI (perceiving emotions, using emotions, understanding emotions, and managing emotions) were examined in relation to team cohesiveness (task, social, and overall) and team performance disaggregated by gender. The Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) was used to assess the EI level of participants. Team cohesiveness was measured using the Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ). The findings indicted that EI only had a significant effect on team cohesiveness social when moderated by gender, while the other relationships were not found to be statistically significant when moderated by gender. No significant relationship was discovered between EI and team cohesiveness in female athletes. No significant difference existed between males and females on a model containing four branches of emotional intelligence. A significant difference between gender and team cohesiveness was found. The final analysis of emotional intelligence, team cohesiveness, and team performance indicated that a significant relationship did exist. Team cohesiveness task made the strongest contribution to team performance. Managing emotions made a significant negative contribution to team performance.

The dissertation consists of five separate studies that all have focused on different aspects of the relationship between psychological factors and sport injuries. In the first study the aim was to investigate female elite soccer players’ experiences of the time prior to the occurrence of an ACL injury. In the result three themes of player experiences was identified: fatigue, life stress, and worry. The players interpreted these three themes as risk factors for ACL-injury.   The second study aimed to investigate whether personality, stress, and coping predicted injury occurrence in an elite soccer population. The result showed that an interaction between psychological variables (i.e. trait anxiety, negative life event stress and daily hassles, ineffective coping) could explain 24 % of the variance in injury occurrence. Moreover, the result showed that negative life event stress was found to have an indirect effect on injury occurrence through daily hassles. In the third study the aim was to investigate whether individual level and changes in hassle and uplift levels over a 10-week period could predict injury outcome in an elite junior soccer population. The results showed that both initial level as well as change in hassle influenced injury risk. More specific, both high initial level as well as slow decrease in hassle was associated with an increased risk of injury. The fourth study aimed to investigate the extent to which a mindfulness and acceptance based intervention program could reduce the number of sports injuries in a sample of soccer players. The result showed no statistically significant differences in injury rates between the two groups, but there was a medium effect size (adjusted Cohen´s d = - 0.59). In the fifth study the aim was to investigate an athletic injury as a career transition through the narrative expression of successful and less successful injury experiences of a former elite handball player. The participant’s narratives made possible to identify four phases (i.e., pre-injury, injury and first reactions, diagnosis and treatment, rehabilitation and consequences) in the injury transition with distinct psychological content (e.g., demands, resources, barriers, and coping strategies) relevant to each phase

Previous research has examined factors that predispose collegiate football players to injury (e.g., Petrie, 1993a, 1993b) as well as factors that influence athletes' psychological adjustment to being injured (e.g., Brewer, 1993; Leddy, Lambert, & Ogles, 1994). Despite the reports of the NCAA Injury Surveillance System that the greatest number of football injuries occur during the spring preseason (NCAA, 1997), studies have only examined injury during the regular season. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the antecedents and consequences of injury in collegiate football players during the spring preseason and across the regular competitive season. Specifically, life stress, social support, competitive trait anxiety, athletic identity, coping style, and preinjury mood state was measured to determine their relationship with the occurrence of injury and with postinjury emotional responses in athletes who sustain an injury at some point during either the spring preseason or regular competitive football season. The overall incidence of athletic injuries was low and the athletes suffered more severe injuries than has been typically found in collegiate football samples. Negative life stress was found to be directly related to the occurrence of injury and to postinjury negative emotional response and was moderated by other psychosocial variables in its influence on the occurrence of injury. Positive life stress was unrelated to injury risk or postinjury emotional response. Social support, sport anxiety, coping, and athletic identity were all found to moderate the negative life stress-injury relationship, as did playing status, suggesting that the complex combinations of these variables increase athletes' susceptibility to the impact of negative life stress. The athletes in this study experienced significant negative emotions following injury. After sustaining injuries they experienced levels of anger, depression, and fatigue that were similar to male psychiatric patients. Injury severity and preinjury mood were found to be the best predictors of postinjury emotional response. Of the psychosocial variables, only social support and sport anxiety were found to be predictive of negative emotional responses following injury. Previously identified relationships between postinjury emotional responses and situational and dispositional variables were replicated and extended.

Streszczenie:
AbstractInterprofessional education is required by all athletic training, medical, pharmacy, nursing, and public health students at Texas A&M University. One such opportunity for collaborative training has been Disaster Day, the nation’s largest student-led interprofessional emergency response simulation. This annual training of 500–800 students takes place on a single day, in two 4-h sessions, at a designated site on campus. Due to COVID-19, the simulation could not be offered in-person in 2020, so the organizers looked for alternative solutions. We opted to use digital games, which have been proposed and used for formal and informal education for several years. While there have been games specifically developed for interprofessional training, none of those games were readily available for use by other institutions, nor is their focus on disaster response. In this chapter, we provide a detailed analysis of how an interdisciplinary team of health professions educators and game designers met interprofessional learning requirements while maintaining student engagement. Lessons from an abbreviated schedule and limited budget will be discussed. The approach incorporated different technologies and tools that are readily available. We will discuss pitfalls, assumptions, and full implementation of our approach. This will allow others to replicate our method and create similar highly engaging learning experiences for remote and online learning.

Streszczenie:
Game intelligence, the ability to be in the right place at the right time and make optimal decisions, is crucial for athletic performance. This whitepaper explores how neurocognitive testing and profiling can deepen our understanding of game intelligence, which includes elements such as situational awareness, decision-making, problem-solving, and flexibility. The whitepaper targets sports professionals aiming to enhance their understanding of game intelligence through neurocognitive assessments. The assessments mentioned in the paper provide insights into athletes’ cognitive strengths and weaknesses, aiding in talent identification, personalized coaching, strategic team composition, tactical adaptations, and injury prevention. Executive functions are crucial in both open sports (e.g., soccer, basketball) and closed sports (e.g., archery, golf). For example, in ice hockey, players must continuously adapt to dynamic environments, requiring quick decision-making, strategic thinking, and creativity. Integrating neurocognitive assessments into sports practices has the potential to enhance the understanding of game intelligence, reduce subjectivity and bias, and improve individual and team performance, As well as ensure the wellbeing of athletes through tailored mental health support and coping strategies. Testing and profiling of individuals and teams can practically help enhance understanding of Game Intelligence. The process involves assessment, awareness, individual acceptance, strategic development, integration into coaching, and continuous follow-up to monitor progress and aid adjustments.

Failure to adequately meet energy needs has an impact on the health and performance of divers. A restrictive diet that results in low energy also leads to micronutrient deficiencies, premature fatigue, frequent injury, and poor athletic performance. Athletes should consume nutrient-rich foods and fluids, and certain nutritional supplements may be recommended under medical supervision. Although sweat loss during indoor training is relatively small, divers should adhere to certain fluid intake strategies. A multidisciplinary sports medicine team should be an integral part of daily training, and appropriate foods and fluids should be available during long periods of training and competition.

The inspiration for the creation of this app stemmed from the deeply rooted history of eating disorders in sports, particularly in sports that emphasize appearance and muscularity which often includes gymnastics, figure skating, dance, and diving [1]. All three sports require rapid rotation in the air which automatically results in the necessity of a more stringent weight requirement. Eating disorders can also be aggravated by sports who focus on individual performances rather than team-oriented like basketball or soccer [5]. According to research, up to thirteen percent of all athletes have, or are currently suffering from a form of eating disorder such as anorexia [2] and bulimia [3]. In the National Collegiate Athletic Association, it is estimated that up to sixteen percent of male athletes and forty-five percent of female athletes have been diagnosed with an eating disorder.

The effectiveness of increasing the sportsmanship of junior girls in middle distance running is largely determined by the degree of management of training loads. The system of training loads of juniors and young athlete athletes is covered by the general principles of their construction, adopted in sports training, such as the systemic alternation of loads and rest, increased developmental and training effects and the balance of their dynamics, unity of progression and tendency to maximum loads, wave-like dynamics of loads. The leading position of the system for managing the preparation of runners of the athletics reserve provides that the loads should, on the one hand, be adequate to the age characteristics of girls, juniors, young athletes, and on the other, be oriented to the level characteristic of higher sportsmanship. In this case, the total volumes of training load at certain stages of long-term training should be correlated with the stage of higher sportsmanship, its first phase - the norms of loads of masters of sports.

Professional sports are increasingly dependents of technological resources given the remarkable level of competitiveness faced by high performance athletes. With such resources, it is possible to analyze matches, avoid mistakes that may be committed by the referee or even to analyze the athletes’ performance. One of these sports is beach volleyball, one of most popular sports in Brazil. In the past 12 years, the Brazilian volleyball teams has been always among the best teams in the world. The athletes’ performance during the jump movement is one of the main factors that one team needs to improve to be successful because it is the movement that is most performed during a volleyball match. There are some approaches that study the jump movement in order to calculate its height and give evidences to improve it. Nevertheless, these solutions are expensive and are not viable to athletes with no sponsorship. Having this in mind, this works presents VolleyJump, an application created to analyze beach volleyball athlete jumps using machine learning strategies to calculate the jump height and classify it as an attack or block jump. Results show that VolleyIoT makes possible to analyze athletes’ jumps using mobile devices sensors, helping them to focus on their trainning to improve its technique.

The use of computer systems in sports has increased significantly in the last decade. Consequently, systems have been developed to help each athlete or team quantify their performance, such as distances traveled, speeds attained, and positions where each athlete was on the court or field. In this work, a method based on computer vision is proposed to analyse futsal matches. Videos were acquired using a single camera with a wide-angle lens, which facilitates the installation and calibration process in different matches and arenas. The approach is illustrated through video recordings of Pato Futsal team, from which the athletes were detected, their positions projected from pixels to real world coordinates their trajectories estimated. The generated data visualization aims to help coaches in their physical and tactical analysis.

ABSTRACT Satisfaction is seen as an important determinant of motivation for sports. The motivational climate is related to the subjective assessment of environmental factors. The aim of this study was to reveal the relationships between motivational climate and satisfaction of athletes differentiated by sex, kind of sport, and sports results. The research was done among 101 athletes practicing team sports (70 men, 31 women) with a mean age of 2.3 years (±5.4). We used the following questionnaires: Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire-2 (PMCSQ-2) and Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ). Satisfaction with individual performance is enhanced by a perceived motivational climate oriented towards mastery (β=.440**), cooperative learning (β=.424**), the importance of each athlete for the success of the team (β=.201*), investment of effort and improvement (β=.411**). The structuring of team actions through training and instruction is enhanced by perceiving a motivational climate oriented towards mastery (β=.208*) and cooperative learning (β=.263**). Unequal recognition reduces satisfaction with team performance (β=-.232*), but collaborative learning (β=.298**), effort and improvement (β=.267**), and mastery of motivational climate (β=.283**) increase it. Satisfaction with personal treatment decreases with the dominance of a performance motivational climate (β=-.216**) and application of punishment for mistakes (β=-.208**) and increases with effort and improvement (β=.283**). The results of this study give grounds to assume that the perceived motivational climate plays a significant role in shaping satisfaction with sports activities. They are a guide to creating an appropriate motivational climate related to optimal sports performance and satisfaction.

ABSTRACT Long-term motivation, perceived motivational climate, and leadership style are factors related to the endurance of load, resistance to stress and sports results. The aim of this study was to reveal the relationships between leadership style, motivational climate, and long-term motivation of athletes differentiated by sex, kind of sport, and sports results. The research was done among 101 athletes practicing team sports (70 men, 31 women) with mean age 20.3 years (±5.4). We used the following questionnaires: Leadership Scale for Sport (LSS), Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire-2 (PMCSQ - 2), and the Test for the study of long-term motivation assessing the long-term goals and prospects. The mastery of motivational climate is strengthened by applying democratic behavior (β=.229*) and structuring of team actions through training and instruction (β=.435**). The performance motivational climate is strengthened by using autocratic behavior (β=.426***) and avoiding: democratic behavior (β=-.459**), and giving positive feedback (β=-.236*). Long-term motivation increases with the dominance of the mastery motivational climate (β=.310**) and decreases with the performance motivational climate (β=-.202*). The obtained results give grounds to assume that the coach’s leadership style plays a significant role in shaping the perceived motivational climate, which determines the level of athletes’ long-term motivation.
