The concept of onboarding is central to this study and the scientist Cardoso's onboarding framework. Onboarding describes a learning process where the user is introduced to the service so that he or she can use it and become an active user. In order to complete the study, an explorative approach has been made. The study has been divided into three parts; a preliminary study, a design phase and a valuation phase. A total of 17 participants have been recruited. The study resulted in three different prototypes that participant tested. The result of the study showed that the participants' knowledge gap about how the doctor visit works on a digital primary care application was filled with an introduction - an onboarding.

Pełny tekst źródła3D printing is a technology that allows the production of an object by additions of materials layers by layers. This technology has many applications in healthcare: bio-printing of tissues and organs, manufacture of medicines or production of customised medical devices. Over the last fifteen years, the production of anatomical models, surgical guides and implants adapted to the patient's anatomy has grown exponentially in all surgical domains. Nevertheless, the question of its clinical and economic evaluation remains unanswered. The objective of this work is to propose several recommendations for designing an economic evaluation model that would take into account the numerous specificities of this technology. We underlined that existing models are not suitable for evaluating a 3D printed device, in particular by highlighting the importance of organisational impact assessment. Thus, we suggested ten key recommendations to be taken into account when designing a study model for 3D printed medical devices

Le sentiment de culpabilité est essentiel dans le cadre d’un jugement parce qu’il induit celui qui la ressent à réparer son tort, que ce soit symboliquement, par des excuses, ou concrètement par des actes, comme le remboursement des dommages occasionnés.
Une première étude a montré qu’un prévenu, pris en flagrant délit, se sentant coupable sera moins sévèrement condamné que s’il ne se sent pas coupable, car il est perçu comme plus sociable, que son délit a tendance à être attribué à des circonstances externes, et qu’il semble moins susceptible de récidiver. Dans une seconde approche nous avons voulu savoir si l’influence des sentiments de culpabilité et de colère était la même en fonction de l’origine ethnique du prévenu, belge ou maghrébine. Lorsque l’on teste la présence ou l’absence de culpabilité et de colère, on obtient quatre comportements possibles du prévenu, qui peut :
se sentir coupable et ne pas être en colère ;
se sentir coupable et être en colère ;
ne pas se sentir coupable ni être en colère ;
ne pas se sentir coupable et être en colère.
Le premier et le dernier comportement sont attendus :la culpabilité va de pair avec une absence de colère et inversement. Par contre, la présence conjointe de culpabilité et de colère, ou l’absence de culpabilité et de colère sont des comportements surprenants. Dans le cas d’un prévenu belge, les comportements attendus conduisent à une sanction sévère, alors que les comportements surprenants conduisent à une peine plus modérée. Paradoxalement, exprimer de la culpabilité et pas de colère n’est donc pas une stratégie payante pour le prévenu car elle revient à reconnaître les faits sans évoquer de circonstances atténuantes. En revanche, un prévenu qui se sent coupable mais qui est en colère contre la société induit l’idée qu’il a compris sa transgression, mais que des circonstances atténuantes l’excusent partiellement.
Dans le cas d’un prévenu maghrébin, la situation diffère légèrement. Les Maghrébins souffrent de deux stéréotypes culturels (c’est-à-dire des croyances répandues dans la société à propos de leur groupe) négatifs à propos de ces émotions :ils sont perçus comme se mettant facilement en colère et comme se sentant rarement coupables. Il semble que les participants soient influencés, consciemment ou non, par ces stéréotypes. La condition cohérente, qui joint l’absence de culpabilité à la présence de colère conduit, comme pour le prévenu belge, à une peine sévère. Rien d’illogique :si un prévenu ne se sent pas coupable et de plus se rebelle, il ne doit pas s’attendre à de la clémence. Par contre, les deux conditions inattendues qui mènent à une peine moins sévère au prévenu belge n’ont pas cet effet chez le prévenu maghrébin. Tout se passe comme si, dès qu’il agit en accord avec ne fût-ce qu’un des stéréotypes négatifs de son groupe, il est puni sévèrement. Dès lors, s’il ressent de la colère ou qu’il ne se sent pas coupable, la peine est sévère. Par contre, lorsqu’il contredit ces stéréotypes, qu’il se sent coupable et n’est pas en colère, il est moins sévèrement puni. De toutes les conditions, Belges et Maghrébins confondus, c’est la situation qui conduit à la peine la plus basse. Il semble que, pour les prévenus maghrébins, les participants ne se soient pas tant centrés sur l’attribution de facteurs externes que sur une autre dimension, non pertinente chez un prévenu belge :le niveau d’intégration à la culture belge. Un maghrébin qui se sent coupable et n’est pas en colère est perçu comme bien intégré à la culture belge et moins condamné.
Peut-on parler de discrimination ?
Dans l’état actuel des recherches, il n’est pas question de discrimination, mais bien de raisonnements différents. Pour pouvoir invoquer la discrimination, il faudrait mettre en évidence plusieurs éléments :d’une part, ces études concernent essentiellement un échantillon de personnes qui ne sont pas magistrats, bien qu’une partie de l’échantillon était formée au droit. Même si aucune différence n’a été observée entre cet échantillon et le reste des participants, formés à d’autres disciplines que le droit, il se peut que les magistrats aient développé, par l’expérience, des stratégies de contrôle de ces effets.
D’autre part, la peine dépend avant tout du comportement émotionnel ;dès lors, si l’on imagine une situation dans laquelle tous les prévenus réagissent sans se sentir coupables et en étant en colère, la peine sera uniformément sévère quelle que soit l’origine. Par contre, si tous les prévenus réagissaient en se sentant coupables et en n’étant pas en colère, nos études sugèrent que ce sont les prévenus belges qui seraient discriminés. Les prévenus maghrébins seraient également discriminés si, par exemple, tous les prévenus réagissaient de manière inattendue. Mais nous n’avons que peu d’informations sur ces comportements lors des procès.
Quelques données supplémentaires
Outre les expériences, quelques observations de terrain ont soulevé des points qui peuvent alimenter le débat. Trois approches ont été réalisées :l’observation de procès, l’entretien avec des ex-détenus et l’entretien avec des magistrats. Les deux premières visaient avant tout à investiguer la gestion des émotions en fonction de l’origine culturelle. Les prévenus d’origine maghrébine ont-ils tendance à se sentir plus ou moins coupables que les prévenus d’origine belge ?Existe-t-il des différences culturelles quant aux normes relatives à la présentation d’excuses lorsque l’on a commis un délit ?Tous les prévenus ont-ils les moyens d’observer des rituels d’excuses complexes ?
L’observation de nombreux procès révèle une corrélation très forte entre les aptitudes linguistiques perçues du prévenu et sa tendance à présenter des excuses. Plus un prévenu éprouve des difficultés à s’exprimer en français, moins les stratégies d’excuses seront utilisées. A l’inverse, les Belges semblent s’excuser plus souvent, presque systématiquement même, dès lors qu’ils ne nient pas les faits.
Les ex-détenus, indépendamment de leur origine, ne se sentent a priori jamais coupables des délits qui leur ont été reprochés. Par contre, certains disent avoir présenté des excuses au tribunal. La culpabilité, lorsqu’elle était ressentie, concernait plutôt les conséquences du délit, comme les difficultés financières auxquelles étaient confrontées les familles des détenus, la violence imprévue durant les faits, ou encore, pour un cas, le délit lui-même (vente de stupéfiant) mais justifié par le fait que l’ex-détenu était toxicomane lors des faits. Il en ressort que, dans la plupart des cas, une justification morale avait déjà été trouvée lorsque les faits ont été commis, ce qui pose la question de l’intérêt d’un éventuel repentir et de l’impact qu’il faudrait lui donner sur la peine.
Les magistrats pensent pour la plupart qu’ils sont influencés par les émotions comme le seraient le commun des mortels. Seul un magistrat estime que l’expérience permet aux magistrats de maîtriser cet effet. Cependant, aucun ne peut quantifier l’importance de l’effet sur la peine. Certains l’estiment fort limité, d’autres plus important.
Conclusions
Ces recherches et observations posent les questions suivantes :doit-on prendre en compte, de manière contrôlée voire légiférée, l’effet des émotions comme la culpabilité sur la peine et, si oui, comment ?Dans certains pays, comme le Japon, les excuses ne peuvent pas être prises en compte. En effet, un prévenu s’excusera dans 99 % des cas, simplement parce que les normes de l’honneur l’imposent. Dès lors, alors que les excuses pourraient être interprétées comme un aveu de la transgression, elles ne sont pas autorisées car même un innocent pourrait s’excuser normativement. A quelles conclusions arriverions-nous si nous devions lever ce débat en Belgique ?

Pełny tekst źródłaThe performances of organic photovoltaic devices (OPV) have been considerably improved over the last decade. These developments allow to scale up the technologies developed at the laboratory scale to the industrial one. For the elaboration of multilayered architectures, inkjet printing method is the ideal way to produce custom-made devices which could be also flexible and potentially low cost. The purpose of this PhD was to understand and to master the influence of ink formulation on the printing process, from the ejection step to the photovoltaic performance characterization of the printed layers. Parameters improving the ejection quality were first determined followed by those making the wettability easier. The inks have been then formulated to ensure that their physicochemical properties meet the aforementioned requirements. These new formulations enabled to optimize the quality of the ejection quality and to ensure uniform printed layers compatible with their integration in OPV devices. After optimization of the printing strategies, the obtained layers proved to be as efficient as those made by spin coating process (reference process at laboratory scale). The advances reached within in this work, in terms of formulations and processes, contributed to the improvement of each inkjet printed layers of the device. Furthermore, the methodology developed here could be applied in the near future either to other photovoltaic technologies and to organic printed electronics

Attitudes were obtained by the Implicit Association Test (IAT) and by explicit evaluations. The results in the current study showed tendency towards a significant persistence effect for explicit attitudes and a positivity bias effect for implicit attitudes.

Användandet av denna teknik är dock inte alltid en garanti för framgång, särskilt inte för småföretag. Detta beror ofta på begränsade resurser och i den utsträckning att det finns kompetens inom webbprogrammering i företaget. Beslutet att bestämma vem som ska design hemsidan för ett litet företag är därför av stor betydelse, eftersom en väl designad hemsida är ett krav för att locka intresse för besökare på hemsidan. En hemsidas design är också en viktig faktor för det första intrycket hos en besökare av en hemsida. Hemsidor som är visuellt tilltalande tenderar att ge större förtroende vid första anblicken. Denna masteruppsats bygger på intresset hos småföretags överväganden om vilka webutvecklingsegenskaper och objektiva estetiska egenskaper i en webbdesign som genererar mer positiva första intryck. För att ta reda på detta, genomfördes intervjuer samt subjektiva och objektiva mätningar av visuell estetik för att fördjupa sig i estetiken hos småföretags hemsidor. De genomförda metoderna gav variabler att testa i en korrelationsanalys. Denna korrelationsanalys visade att två utvecklingsegenskaper hade starka korrelationer med användares perception av visuell estetik. Ingen av de objektiva estetiska egenskaperna baserade på tidigare teorier gav starka korrelationer. Därför kompletterades dessa med andra objektiva egenskaper där två av dem gav starka korrelationer.

Pełny tekst źródłaWhen firms are doing business it is important to meet the customer’s expectations. It is often in the first impression (the first time the parties meet in a sales encounter) that the seller fails to do this, sometimes resulting in the prospective customer dropping the whole thought of a business deal and no further relationship is established. The first impression results from the first image and understanding a seller creates in a potential customer: here the latter gets a brief insight into the former’s organization, credibility and overall quality. Each encounter or meeting is an opportunity to achieve trust and build a relationship, but also contains the risk of reducing credibility and losing all chances of a relationship. The purpose of this thesis is to describe and analyse the importance of the first impression when creating and building a business to business relationship and to describe the factors which influence this process. The theoretical framework is based on theories regarding the concept of first impression and the implications of two-way communication during the first encounter. These include the seller’s preparation and categorisation of the customer before each encounter. Other variations of communication concerns verbal and non-verbal communication, generalizations, cultural differences and circumstances where a failure can turn into an advantage. The present qualitative case study is based on interviews with five highly competent respondents with long experience of business relationships. They were chosen after discussions with Walter Carvajal, owner and MD of City Guest Service. The results showed that the first impression was very important in creating a business relationship. Some variables, e.g. gender, had less significance. Generally, the first impression included the small things a person perceived and interpreted during the first encounter. Combined, they determined whether a person chose to do business with the counterpart in question. All aspects of verbal and non-verbal commu-nication formed a basis for judging the other person. Cultural differences increased the acceptance level, reducing the risk of failure, when the parties were from differ-ent cultures.

Applying Goffman's (1959) impression management theory, the literature review highlighted four leading self-presentation tactics that bolster credibility effectively on the Internet: structure and aesthetics of personal websites, publication of content that is consistent, insightful and authentic, the use of self disclosure, and verification of expertise through testimonials and references. These four self-presentation strategies were applied to analyze eight entrepreneurs who have successfully built a credible presence online. These case studies were further developed through the design of online course that teaches entrepreneurs how to use impression management effectively online.

O presente trabalho discute e apresenta um panorama do design e da cultura contemporânea, por meio das 'inter-relações culturais', estabelecidas entre o design, a cultura, a tecnologia, a sociedade e os recursos naturais. Disserta sobre como as idéias e formas de pensar, do modernismo e da pós-modernidade, somados às tecnologias decorrentes da revolução eletrônica digital, na forma da hiper-rede e do e-paper, prescrevem parte do discurso presente nos 'objetos culturais'. Destaca, como alguns princípios do design contemporâneo, tais como a desmaterialização, a convergência, a hibridização, a complexidade, a flexibilidade e a mobilidade, redefinem as características dos 'objetos culturais', destacando as suas propriedades de mediação. Acredita que a qualidade da mediação do 'objeto cultural' depende das relações estabelecidas do 'indutor de atividade' com a interface de navegação que propicia a interação. Descreve como a sistemática utilização dos algoritmos na automatização da execução dos procedimentos mecânicos e algumas tomadas de decisão, permitem junto com a associação do uso de metadados e o conceito de inteligência distribuída ou partilhada, construir 'objetos culturais' capazes de serem adaptados, atualizados e personalizados.

Another intention is to analyze different company characteristics and their relation to IM. For instance, how the financial performance of companies affects their use of IM, in terms of readability manipulation of CEO-letters, i.e. whether companies report positive or negative news in CEO-letters differently depending on the company’s financial performance. CEO-letters are a popular section in annual reports because the company’s management is able to translate complex conditions, otherwise expressed in numbers and accounting records, into an easy-to-understand, user-friendly and informative text. However, CEO-letters are not audited and may therefore be exposed to IM inorder to influence or obfuscate stakeholders’ perception of the company.Using the Flesch reading ease formula and statistical analysis, this study explores how the readability of CEO-letters in annual reports tends to vary with several company characteristics and business cycles. The analysis controls for variables previously identified as relevant to the use of IM, such as company size, company age, company performance and companyperformance over time.The results show a significant positive relationship between readability and financial performance over time, measured as the percentage change of net profits compared to previous years. Furthermore, company performance measured as return on assets (ROA) and company size has an insignificant positive relationship with readability. Also, company age has a negative relationship with readability, however, not significant. In addition, this study finds that most companies’ CEO-letters are difficult to read and comprehensible to a limited population.

This paper presents some relationships emerged or reinforced through contact between residents of the city of Pacoti, in the state of Ceará, and the environmentalism originated after the law which turns the city into part of the Environment Protection Area of Baturité. The perspective adopted uses, mainly, some terms from the Pierre Bourdieu’s sociology – habitus, field, cultural arbitrary, and pedagogic action – and the notion of “modernity without modern rationality” in which José de Souza Martins writes some elements for Brazilian cultures. The empiric study was done in Pacoti and contains the material recorded through direct observation on field and open interviews with 14 people who live or work in the city. The trips for the research occurred in two moments: from March to October, 2005 – still as part of another research – and from September, 2007 to April, 2008. The discussion of this paper is divided into two steps: first a brief reflection about how the thought and the environmentalism action turned into a modern phenomenon and creator of social conflicts. The second step discusses how this environmentalism is appropriated or rejected by the interviewees, which also works as a preliminary diagnostic instrument of the concrete possibilities of operating a Conservation Unit of Sustainable Use, as is the case of the Baturité’s APA. In the end was possible to notice that beyond the large amount of appropriation and derivations from environmentalism in the city, there is a clear connection between it and the replacement of the social-cultural local system based on the rural production for another system based on the tourist leisure.
Este trabalho apresenta algumas relações surgidas ou reforçadas pelo contato entre moradores do município cearense de Pacoti e o ambientalismo originado após o decreto que torna a cidade parte da Área de Proteção Ambiental (APA) de Baturité. A perspectiva adotada utiliza, principalmente, algumas categorias da sociologia de Pierre Bourdieu – habitus, campo, arbitrário cultural e ação pedagógica - e a noção de “modernidade sem racionalidade moderna” em que José de Souza Martins inscreve alguns elementos das culturas brasileiras. O estudo empírico foi feito em Pacoti e contém o material registrado pela observação direta no campo e entrevistas abertas com 14 pessoas que moram ou trabalham na cidade. As viagens para pesquisa aconteceram em dois momentos: março a outubro de 2005 – ainda como parte de outra pesquisa – e setembro de 2007 a abril de 2008. A discussão deste trabalho divide-se em duas etapas: primeiro uma breve reflexão sobre como o pensamento e a ação ambientalista tornaram-se um fenômeno moderno e gerador de conflitos sociais; no segundo momento discute-se como este ambientalismo é apropriado ou rejeitado pelos entrevistados, o que também serve como um instrumento de diagnóstico preliminar das possibilidades concretas de funcionamento de uma Unidade Conservação (UC) de Uso Sustentável, como é o caso da APA de Baturité. Por fim foi possível perceber que além da riqueza de apropriações e derivações do ambientalismo na cidade, há uma clara ligação entre o mesmo e a substituição do sistema sócio-cultural local baseado na produção rural, por outro sistema que se baseia no lazer do veranista.

Pełny tekst źródłaWith the evolution of microelectronics industry and their direct implementation in the biomedical arena, innovative tools and technologies have come to the fore enabling more reliable and cost-effective treatment. In this thesis I focus on the integration of the conducting polymer PEDOT:PSS with printing technologies toward the realization of performant biomedical devices. In the first part, I focus on the optimization of the conducting ink formulation. Following, I emphasize on the fabrication of inkjet printed PEDOT:PSS based biopotential electrodes on a wide variety of substrates (i.e., paper, textiles, tattoo paper) for use in electrophysiological applications such as electrocardiography (ECG) and electromyography (EMG). Printed electrodes on paper and printed wearable electrodes were fabricated and investigated for long-term ECG recordings. Then, conformable printed tattoo electrodes were fabricated to detect the biceps activity during muscle contraction and the conventional wiring was replaced by a simple contact between the tattoo and a similarly ink-jet printed textile electrode.In the last part, I present the potentiality of inkjet printing method for the realization of organic electrochemical transistor (OECTs) as high performing biomedical devices. A disposable breathalyzer comprised of a printed OECT and modified with alcohol dehydrogenase was used for the direct alcohol detection in breath, enabling future integration with wearable devices for real-time health monitoring. Their compatibility with printing technologies allows the realization of low-cost and large area electronic devices, toward next-generation fully integrated smart biomedical devices

monitoring, Narcissism and Machiavellianism were assessed as personality variables. University students (N = 306) participated in a scenario study, with the valence of the news (good / bad) and outcome dependence on the recipient (high / low) as independent variables. The main dependent variable was transmission likelihood of the news. Results showed that, high dependence participants were more likely to transmit good news than low dependence participants. In contrast, high dependence participants were less likely to transmit bad news than low dependence participants. Moreover, likeability was found to be a partial mediator of the relationship. Participants tend to think that they would be perceived as more likeable if they transmit good news and thus they were more likely to communicate the good news. From the personality variables only Machiavellianism had a significant effect. High Machs were more likely to transmit good news in high dependence condition than did low Machs. The results of the study were discussed in the relevant literature.
