Streszczenie:
The article examines the peculiarities of reproduction of archetypes in the translation of an artistic work. The interpretation of the concept of ‘archetype’, its classifi cations and levels of its mental representation in the text are studied herein. While examining the issue of universal and ethnocultural archetypes, the author of the article introduces the term ‘culturally determined archetypes’. The article contains the proposals as to the actions that are to be taken by a translator in the process of reproduction of the source language archetype in the target language, outlines what exactly it is necessary to pay attention to in order to properly translate the archetype. It is noted that if the archetypes are translated inadequately or inaccurately, the integrity of the literary work may be violated due to the partial loss of the symbolic meaning, or the emotional impact on the reader. It is proposed to include the archetypal analysis of the source and target texts to the translation studies analysis. Key words: archetype, psychological archetype, cultural archetype,culturally-preconditioned archetype, archetypal image, motive, symbol, translation.

Streszczenie:
Given that myths and tales are living and memory areas of archetypes, in this study the French tale “Bluebeard” and the Turkish fairy tale “İğci Baba” are compared both in terms of the wild woman archetype and the motif correspondence based on this archetype. In this respect, two tales are analysed based on archetypal criticism. Moreover, archetypal criticism paves the way for imagery analysis by making it possible to see the collective, universal, and archetypal image of women to be seen through the motif correspondence associated with the wild woman archetype. The correspondence of motifs based on the wild woman archetype makes it possible to compare “Bluebeard” and “İğci Baba”, which are texts from different geographical regions, cultures, and eras. The wild woman archetype and the motifs in the two tales, such as initiation, the forbidden secret room, the irresistible curiosity and desire to know, and the key, are strikingly similar. The encounter with the wild woman archetype in two texts can be explained by the suprapersonal, supracultural and universal character of the archetypes, and the strong correspondence between the two texts based on similar motifs can be explained by the universality of the fairy tales and supracultural motifs.

One of the common themes in contemporary Persian literature in Iran is the psychological development of women and their challenges to find their path towards individuality. By applying Jungian “process of individuation,” Fariba Vafi’s novel My bird is analyzed to uncover the self- development of the female character. The motion of self-archetype is studied in relation to Jung’s theory of individuality to study how the female protagonist experiences this process of personality development. The motif of re-birth emerges at the end of the novel when the female heroine reaches a level of recognition of the changes occurring within her. Other archetypal motifs that appear in the novel are the house archetype, the shadow archetype, and the individuation archetype which are discussed as they are the main structuring elements in the formation of the theme of the novel. This research aims to study how the psychological development of the female protagonist, based on Jung’s archetypal theories, occurs. Keywords: Jung’s archetypes, shadow archetype, house archetype, individuation archetype.

Streszczenie:
A scientific problem. The article examines the musical and cultural aspects of the «archetype» phenomenon and its transformation from an archetypal prototype through an artistic image to the concept and metaconcept in musical culture. Regardless of the relevance of these phenomena in the modern space of culture, this problem remains little researched, although it is still connected with the urgent issues of finding the primary foundations, the primary sources of being, the identification of universal patterns-models in the composer’s creative work. The aim. To investigate the transformation of the archetype in the semiosis of musical culture and to reveal the genealogical interdependence of the transition of the archetype into the concept and metaconcept. The methodology is based on scientific cultural, psychological, literary and musicological investigations, as well as a systematic approach, comparative and logical-analytical methods. With the help of this methodology, the transformation of the archetype, their interdependence in musical culture was revealed. Results. The definitions of «archetype» and «concept» are considered, their common and distinctive features are clarified, and the transformation of archetypes into concepts is traced. In this context, it was noted that entering the world of everyday ideas, the archetypal prototype is filled with new emotional and informational content; it acquires a personal, socially conditioned specificity and moves into the realm of concepts. The interpretation of the definition «concept» as coexistence by J. Deleuze and F. Guattari is analyzed. The concept is considered in the context of perspectives of frame semantics in music. Conclusions. As a result of the research, a genealogical connection between two definitions «archetype» and «concept» was noted. It was found that a concept is not an image, not every artistic image can become a concept, since the concept potentially carries an invariant content in the form of an archetype, which is individually and creatively realized in each specific case of a composer’s creative work. It was determined that archetypes and concepts perform the function of memory (cultural, social, national), form the continuity, integrity of being, its value-meaning core. It was proven that archetypes of the cultural unconscious are metaconcepts of culture: both archetypes and concepts form a certain «metalanguage of culture» (Y. Lotman), or an «overlanguage». It was found that archetypal prototypes are, in their essence, archetypal semes, which go from the collective unconscious to the subconscious of a modern person, and their reactualization takes place. Archetypal semes (units of the universal subject code — sound, tone, rhythm, intonation, etc.) form the figurative sphere of the concept. It was determined that the concept in musical creativity expands the semantic and emotional-sensual possibilities and meaning of the archetypal prototype; it carries out an intermediary function in the transmission of sociocultural experience; it forms the communicative space of culture. The important essence of concepts is noted the formation of potential meanings, which the concept contains not in the text itself, but in contexts, «on the border of statements».

The article discusses the figurative and semantic paradigms of the sophiological myth in the story by V.P. Astafyev “The Shepherd and the Cowgirl”. The image of the main character of the story Lucy is endowed with a number of symbolic connotations and has a complex archetypal structure. The Sophian archetype is represented here in its two invariants: the Christian and the Gnostic; the keys to understand the heroine are also the Theotokos archetype, the archetypes of the Virgin, the Beloved, the Mistress, Psyche, and the Kabbalistic archetype Shekhinah, which is closely related to the original image of Sophia. The Sophian model of a feminine principle is reflected both in the personality-psychological, spiritual and moral characteristics of the heroine, and in the logic of the image of her fate. The study leads to the conclusion that the mythologeme of Sophia in its different modes (Sophia the Wisdom of God, Sophia the Gnostic, Eternal Femininity) in the paradigm of Lucy's image is one of the semantic dominants; in addition, in the mythopoetic sign system of the work, the Sophian archetype, along with the archetypes of Theotokos and Shekhinah, can be considered the cultural representative of the “feminine” archetype - the archetype of a Woman in its specific gender-existential aspect.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explain how audio‐visual archetypal representations likely to engender emotional identification and consumer‐inquisitiveness by marketing professionals can be constructed.Design/methodology/approachThe paper employs video‐ethnography involving the following steps: development of a typology of consumer archetypes based on a priori theory, screening for and identifying informants to exemplify each archetype, filming interviews in and around their homes, developing realistic audio‐visual representations of each archetype and assessing marketing practitioners reactions to the audio‐visual representations.FindingsIn response to the audio‐visual archetypal representations, marketing practitioners displayed a high degree of interest and emotional relatedness. The interest generated in the screenings motivated animated discussion and often a desire to better understand the consumers represented by each archetype. These heightened reactions contrast strongly with the relatively emotionally flat responses to traditional marketing research reports.Originality/valueThe paper demonstrates that carefully crafted audio‐visual representations of consumer archetypes are likely to engender a consumer orientation in marketing professionals and hence associate with improved marketing decision‐making. It explains that this situation is likely explained by audio‐visual media's superior capacity to foster experiential, emotional knowledge of others, and, the origins of consumer archetypes in the collective un/consciousness and/or widespread strongly embedded cultural beliefs, norms, and values.

The article models the protocultural fields of the archetypal-mythological memory of Ukrainians and Russians as consisting of divergent elements. The core of the fields are archaic cultural archetypes and archetypal motifs “mother”, “field”, “plowman”, “labor”, “individualism”, and “equality” for Ukrainians, and “father”, “distance”, “vastness”, “inertia”, “collectivism”, and “submission” for Russians. The сore archetypes determine the differences in the ethnic mentality of two peoples and can enter the subsequent semiospheres and political mythology without significant adaptation, transforming into symbols of national identity. The periphery is formed by archetypes common, but re-articulated in subsequent semiospheres to be adapted to national narratives of different periods. The general archetype Sacred space was associated in the archaic consciousness of Ukrainians with the “House”, symbolizing the maternal principle and the Motherland, while the Russians embodied this archetype in the symbols of the Holy Mountain, metonymically expanded to the symbols of “Holy Rus”, Heartland, Rimland, defining the motif of messianism in symbolic politics of Russia. The archetype of the Hero is manifested in Ukrainian folklore by the images of the legendary plowmen, who conquer the steppe elements from the nomads, while in the Russian ethnic consciousness it is interpreted as the Messiah-Savior of the world.

The paper reveals the structure, properties and main functions of modern political myth, in addition, it analyzes the relationship between modern and archaic myths. The basis of modern political myths is rationalized and expressed in symbolic form mythological archetype. Despite the fact that archaic mythology as an integral system of worldview is rationalized, desacralized and destroyed, mythological archetypes retain their social significance. That is, political myths are the result of rationalization and symbolic interpretation of mythological archetypes. The article describes the main symbols-archetypes being invariably present in political discourse. For example, the hero archetype symbol is used to create heroic political myths. This group of myths is necessary for the formation of the image of a political leader. The representation of a political leader in accordance with the symbol-archetype of the hero significantly increases his capabilities and powers. The symbol-archetype of the Golden age is used to construct the image of the ideal social and political system. This archetype is especially actively exploited in various utopian and revolutionary projects. The symbol-archetype of the Great Mother, also actively used by modern mythology, forms ideas about their native land and country creating a sense of unity and cohesion. Since archetypal symbols retain their social significance, political myths, by reproducing them, perform important social functions. Shaping a special symbolic and semantic reality modern myths perform the main function – meaning making. Modern political myths carry out their functions by acting on the unconscious level, thereby causing certain emotional experiences and pushing the masses to the required actions. Thus, it can be concluded that political myths are an integral component of modern social and political practice.

"This article discusses the female archetypes presented in the characters of the stepmother and mother in English folk tales as the embodiment of the image of one of the most significant literary archetypal images «Mother». The purpose of this article is to analyze the archetypes of the stepmother and mother, which are a manifestation of the light or dark side of one archetype of the «Mother» on the material of some magical and everyday English folk tales. The work presents excerpts and examples from such folk tales as «The rose tree», «The Well Of The World’s End», «Kate Crackernuts», «The House in The Lake», «Fate of the Children of Lir», «Jack and His Golden Snuff-Box», «The Red Ettin» «Lazy Jack». In addition, an attempt is being made to present variants of the classifications of female archetype images, which today is ambiguous and not always specific. The archetype «Mother» is not necessarily the mother of the hero, it can in fact be any woman of the older generation who has a psychological influence on the hero, on his life and worldview and is not in a relationship with him The authors come to the conclusion that the female archetypal image can become a source of strength for the hero, endowing him with the ability to survive and stand against trials. However, in a negative aspect, it dooms the hero to powerlessness in the face of difficulties, weakens, makes dependent. This research aims to examine Chinese myths, legends and tales from the perspective of analytical psychology. Considering that analytical psychologists have paid little attention to Chinese myths and that previous studies on Chinese myths from the standpoint of analytical psychology are lacking, this thesis investigates the universal archetype and its cultural carrier, or archetypal image, in Chinese mythical texts. First, this study examines both Jung’s engagement with Chinese culture, in order to see the function and significance of Chinese thought in analytical psychology, and the reception of Jungian thought in China, in order to demonstrate the lack of research on Chinese myths from the perspective of the theory of analytical psychology. Second, the study defines the concepts of archetype and archetypal image, and adopts the method of myth analysis from Jung and his followers to interpret Chinese motifs and symbols. Third, interpretations from the perspective of analytical psychology are applied to three motifs in Chinese culture: creation myths, flood myths and erotic anima figures. These provide materials for exploring similarities and differences in the mechanism and development of the human psyche between East and West. Fourth, this research concentrates on discussing two important Chinese symbols – Long (dragon) and Qi lin (unicorn) and their counterparts in western culture – by analysing these symbols at both the archetypal and cultural levels. The final part of this study explores the possible therapeutic value of Chinese myths in helping analysts to comprehend the human psyche and analysands to understand themselves in greater depth. This thesis fills a gap in the understanding of Chinese myth by means of Jungian psychology with the hope also of applying analytical psychology to Chinese culture more thoroughly and insightfully in both theoretical and practical contexts.

The goal of this thesis is to elucidate the nature of character perspective in regard to worldbuilding for a setting. My research involved delving into writing journal articles, examining the formatting of stories in how they introduced their settings, and general reading. My main focus was on fictional tales, especially those that used the traveler archetype. Also, I examined how the reader’s view of the given world changes depending on the character whose eyes they are looking at the environment through. In my critical introduction, I address the issues and structure related to use of the traveler archetype in stories. In my own stories, I exemplify these characteristics by showing worlds from different perspectives. I conclude that the traveler archetype works well toward building a setting for the reader to explore due to the perspective it offers, because both the character’s and the reader’s eyes are fresh when making contact with the foreign.

A major problem to be solved in health informatics is high quality, structured and timely data collection. Standard terminologies and uniform domain conceptual models are important steps to alleviate this problem which are also proposed to enable interoperability among systems. With the aim of contributing to the solution of this problem, this study proposes novel features for the Archetypes and multi-level modeling technique in health information and knowledge modeling. The study consists of the development of a research prototype for endoscopic data management, and based on that experience, the extension of Minimal Standard Terminology in Digestive Endoscopy (MST). A major contribution of the study consists of significant extensions to the modeling formalism. The proposed modeling approach may be used in the design and development of health information systems based on archetypes for structured data collection, validation and dynamic user interface creation. The thesis work is aimed to make considerable contribution to the emerging Electronic Health Records (EHR) standards and specifications.

Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2012.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The stereotypical figure of the femme fatale as irresistible seductress, who inevitably brings about death, is well known. This figure is nevertheless strangely absent from Afrikaans literature. This is what makes the appearance of the character of Nicolette in André Brink’s novel, The Ambassador (1963), so remarkable. Not only is she a complex femme fatale, she also adds a new dimension to the cliché. The striking similarities between Nicolette and Kathe, the female protagonist in Henri-Pierre Roché’s novel Jules et Jim (1953), justify a comparative study between these two novels. Although both of them bring about death, it seems that the presence of these femme fatale characters has positive rather than negative consequences. Contrary to the stereotypical evil temptress, Nicolette and Kathe are more natural, spontaneous and unpredictable – apparently free from the constricting qualities of the bloodthirsty femme fatale. In this comparative study, the image of the femme fatale is investigated through the close examination of its role and function in Jules et Jim and The Ambassador. By examining the philosopher René Girard’s theories on mimetic desire, violence and sacrifice as well as Georges Bataille’s ideas on eroticism and death, the nature of the femme fatale in these two novels is analysed in order to determine to what extent the image of the femme fatale as negative archetype could be reconsidered.

By using archetypes, it is possible to define how data are stored in the EHR,which facilitates querying for data.

The objective of this thesis is to investigate the possibility of connecting a decisionsupport system to archetype-based medical records by using the ArchetypeQuery Language (AQL) and the Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL).

The result shows that, since SWRL is a logic language rather than a programminglanguage, built-ins are necessary to allow SWRL rules to function as programmingrules. Built-ins are SWRL modules that can be written in e.g. Java, which allows complex functions to be created.

The conclusion is that built-ins can be used to connect archetypes and SWRLrules by querying the archetype path with AQL. There are however several ruledesign factors to consider when using SWRL e.g. data location problems.

Streszczenie:
Creative writing courses have flourished in recent years. However, the accuracy of the content of some courses has yet to be examined. Character archetypes are an unavoidable topic in most courses requiring character creation. We found that some online creative courses include characters whose character archetypes are debatable. For example, the Femme Fatale is often considered a character archetype, but some scholars believe it is a stereotype bias. While the use of character archetypes and stereotypes in creative work is a matter of personal freedom, it is inappropriate to educationally disseminate content that is still controversial in the academic community. This study explores the history and reasons for the generalization of the Femme Fatale, the differences between the Femme Fatale and other character archetypes, and derives three reasons why the Femme Fatale is inappropriate as a character archetype in creative work. This study is intended to call attention to the rigor of the content of online creative writing courses.

Streszczenie:
Abstract This study employs an archetype-based modeling approach to estimate and analyze the urban scale cooling load profile of high-rise buildings in the Marina district of Lusail City, Qatar. Since the Marina district is a newly built district, the building typology and geometric characteristics are considered the main criteria for the selection of representative archetypes of the district. Three high-rise building archetypes are developed using EnergyPlus software to represent the available building stocks in the district, which are residential, commercial, and mixed-use. Required data for the input parameters are collected from various sources such as the Lusail City GSAS 2 Star Rating Guidelines, which define the minimum requirements in the region, ASHRAE 90.1, and ASHRAE 62.1 standards, along with user surveys when available. Detailed cooling load profiles of the three building archetypes are obtained in EnergyPlus, which enables aggregating the cooling loads to obtain the cooling load profile of the Marina district at various time resolutions. The cooling load profiles obtained after the simulation of each building archetype model in EnergyPlus are validated with real building cooling loads measured in the case study area. The developed cooling load profiles in this study can inform district cooling facilities for an optimal design and operation of the plant, reveal the energy-saving potential of buildings, and aid in defining cost allocations or billing strategies for end users without the need for the installation of zone-level submeter to each apartment unit. This study further contributes to the establishment of a representative building archetype library for hot and arid climate zones. Thus, the building archetype models produced for the Marina district in this study are also applicable to other regions with similar building types and climatic characteristics.

Streszczenie:
Revolution takes place in psychodiagnostics, psychotherapy and psychological counseling, caused by an anthropological turn nowadays. In a practical way, the anthropological turn is connected with the practice of introducing ethnographic, folklore, historical-archaeological and archival materials into psychology, pedagogy, psychotherapy as a stage of further development of transcultural and multidisciplinary approaches with access to the creation of new practical tools. Techniques that allow to harmonize different modes of human existence are especially valuable in the light of the anthropological turn. Lawrence K. Frank proposed the term «projective techniques» for the designation psychological techniques designed to raise and integrate the material of the unconscious (individual and collective). Metaphorical associative cards (projective cards) are a special genre of psychotherapy and psychological counseling developed in line with anthropological psychotherapy and based on the principles and postulates of projective techniques. The Metaphorical relationship cards «Dolls-archetypes» technique was developed in line with the method of positive dynamic psychotherapy, in the Russian tradition of mantic cards and includes 42 maps depicting specially selected folk rag dolls in the outline of the theory of structural archetypes. The set of Metaphorical relationship cards «Dolls-archetypes» includes: 42 cards and a methodological guide, which includes sections: 1. MACs – metaphorical associative (projective) cards; 2. MACs – deck «Dolls-archetypes»; 3. Structural archetypes; 4. MACs – description of individual cards; 5. MACs – description of 6 card rows – 7 variants of fate, individuation depending on the leading structural archetype: Dolya, Volya, Lada, Ivan, Shaman, 2 variants Counterinitiation; 6. MACs – methods of application.

Streszczenie:
Film studies have recently begun to employ Jung’s concept of archetypes prototypical characters which play the role of blueprint in constructing clear-cut characters. New typologies of archetype characters appear to reflect the changes in the constantly developing world of literature, theater, film, comics and other forms of entertainment. Among those, there is the classification of forty-five master characters by V. Schmidt , which is the basis for defining the character’s archetype in the present article. The aim of the research is to identify the elements of the psycholinguistic image of Justin Hammer in the superhero film Iron Man 2 based on the Marvel Comics and directed by Jon Favreau (2010). The task consists of three stages, namely identification of the psychological characteristics of the character, subsequent determination of Hammer’s archetype and definition of speech elements that reveal the character’s psychological image. This paper explores 92 Hammer’s turns of dialogues in the film. According to V. Schmidt’s classification, Hammer belongs to the Traitor archetype, which is a villainous representation of the Businessman archetype.

The aim of the research is to identify the elements of the psycholinguistic image of the leading character in the dark fantasy adventure film Maleficent directed by Robert Stromberg (2014). The task consists of two stages, at the first of which I identify the psychological characteristics of the character to determine to which of the archetypes Maleficent belongs. As the basis, I take the classification of film archetypes by V. Schmidt. At the second stage, I distinguish the speech peculiarities of the character that reflex her psychological image. This paper explores 98 Maleficent’s turns of dialogues in the film. According to V. Schmidt’s classification, Maleficent belongs first to the Matriarch archetype and later in the plot to the Scorned Woman archetype. These archetypes are representations of the powerful goddess of marriage and fertility Hera, being respectively her heroic and villainous embodiments. There are several crucial characteristics revealed by speech elements.

Streszczenie:
The paper is focused on the correlation between the psychological archetype of a film character and the linguistic elements composing their speech. The Nurturer archetype is represented in the film Inside Out by the personalized emotion Joy. Joy is depicted as an antropomorphous female character, whose purpose is to keep her host, a young girl Riley, happy. As the Nurturer, Joy is completely focused on Riley’s happiness, which is expressed by lexico-semantic group ‘happy’, positive evaluative tokens, exclamatory sentences, promissive speech acts, and repetitions. She needs the feeling of connectedness with other members of her family, which is revealed by lexico-semantic groups ‘support’ and ‘help’. She is ready to sacrifice everything to save the girl in her care, which is demonstrated by modal verbs, frequent word-combination ‘for Riley’, and directives.
