Streszczenie:
The mini-scale pneumatic conveying ring dryer (PCRD) type sago starch dryer with a capacity of 80 kg / day has been applied to the processing of sago starch to produce dry sago starch. To increase the production capacity of the PCRD dryer, a recirculation pipe was modified. The modified pipe section is the venturi pipe diameter and the upriser vertical pipe increased. The diameter of the vertical upriser pipe is 2.5 times larger than that of the ubend pipe and the downcomer vertical pipe so that a buffer is formed. In addition, the difference in the diameter of the recirculation pipe can increase the residence time of the material. The purpose of this study was to simulate using ansys fluent to determine the temperature profile, air flow velocity, and pressure in the pneumatic conveying ring dryer (PCRD) type sago starch dryer pipe with a capacity of 1 ton per day. Simulations were carried out using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique using ansys fluent software package. The simulation results show that the temperature along the pipe has decreased by about 2oC at various variations of the input air velocity and variations in the outlet at the boundary conditions. Likewise, the air velocity at the end of the outlet pipe (vertical downcomer pipe) increases due to the difference in diameter with the inlet pipe. The pressure on the vertical upriser pipe is higher than the pressure on the ubend pipe and downcomer vertical pipe. The simulation results show that the recirculation pipe design is very well used so that it can be continued for the manufacture of PCRD-type sago starch dryer on a scale of 1 ton per day.

This paper aims to demonstrate how to model, mesh and simulate a hydraulic propeller turbine runner based on the geometrical specification of the runner blade. Modeling process is divided into preparation and implementation phase. Preparation phase illustrates how to develop stream surfaces and passages, how to create and transform meanline and how to create an rtzt file. The profile in rtzt file has a certain fix thickness which has to be altered later. Implementation phase describes operations necessary in creating a propeller runner model in ANSYS BladeGen which consist of importing rtzt file, modifying the trailing edge properties and altering profile thickness distribution to that of 4 digits NACA airfoil standard. Grid is generated in ANSYS TurboGrid utilizing ATM Optimized topology. CFD simulation is done using the ANSYS Fluent with pressure inlet and pressure outlet boundary conditions and k-ε turbulence model. Hydraulic efficiency of the runner is calculated utilizing Turbo Topology module in ANSYS Fluent. The authors will share the advantages that may be obtained by using ANSYS BladeGen compared with the use of general CAD Systems.

Single-blade centrifugal pumps are hydraulic machines used in many industrial areas. A unique screw shaped blade enables liquids containing solids and fibrous matters to be pumped. Owing to good pump hydraulic properties on the one hand and unfavourable impeller mechanical properties on the other have single-blade pumps become recently more interesting for researchers regarding the CFD simulations. In this case a conventional CFD approach for multi-blade pumps cannot be applied due to the lack of symmetry of the single-blade impeller. Possible approaches to the CFD simulation of a single-blade impeller in the Ansys Fluent and the Ansys CFX are compared in this paper. A comparison of two CFD meshing tools showed substantial element number decrease of the whole CFD model. This paper presents also the laboratory experiment results of the investigated single-blade pump. The paper describes a new approach to the single-blade CFD simulation through Ansys Fluent which is faster and more user-friendly then the conventional approach.

Currently, among the most popular computational fluid dynamics software packages are commercial CFD packages – ANSYS CFX, ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+ and several others. In contrast to the above-mentioned commercial CFD packages, there is an OpenFOAM, a non-commercial, freely distributed, integrated platform for numerical modeling of solid-state mechanics tasks (including CFD tasks), and it is becoming more and more popular. In addition to being a non-commercial package, OpenFOAM also has open-source code, which allows users to write their own algorithms for solving highly specialized tasks. A comparison of ANSYS and OpenFOAM in the application to CFD problems of incompressible turbulent flow in this article is given by the example of jet pump calculation, which was tested in the Laboratory of Hydraulic Machinery of Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University.

Abstract A Tesla turbine is a bladeless turbine in which fluid flows in the direction of the centripetal path. It uses fluid properties such as Boundary layer & adhesion of fluid on a series of discs keyed to a shaft. The initial cost and maintenance cost of the Tesla turbine is very low. Our project’s main motive is to improve the performance of a Tesla turbine by changing various parameters such as disc diameter and disc rotating speed through the CFD simulation software using water as a working fluid. The CAD model is designed using Ansys design modeler, meshing is performed using Ansys meshing and post processing is carried out in Ansys fluent. The numerical simulations were carried out using Ansys Fluent which is based on the finite volume method and the changes that occurred in the pressure and velocities are investigated. The parametric study is performed by varying the turbine disc speed. By performing CFD simulations, total pressure contour and velocity magnitude contours are plotted and it is found that pressure and velocity are maximum when the clearance between disc and turbine casing is lesser and at higher turbine disc speeds. The power output of the Tesla turbine is also plotted for various rpm where higher rpm gives maximum power output. The results from the present study would be useful in designing an efficient Tesla turbine with improved performance.

This work reports preliminary results on the fluid dynamic simulation using ANSYS CFD software of a pilot scale reactor experimentally tested for the removal of VOCs (toluene, ethylbenzene, methyl ethyl ketone and xylenes). The reactor is constructed from the modification of a commercial air stripper and has been successfully evaluated for the removal of VOCs using Mn, Ce and Pt based catalysts on ceramic monoliths (bentonite). By means of ANSYS CFD simulation it was possible to represent the flow in the reactor (validating with experimental data) and to simulate the flow in the monolith channels. This information will allow us to have a better understanding of the fluid dynamics in the catalysts and to simulate the reactions with different VOCs by combining ANSYS CFD with ChemKin-PRO.

This paper is concerned the flow simulation and performance analysis of the Centrifugal Compressor Using CFD – Tool. The complex internal flow of centrifugal compressor can be well analyzed, and the unique design system needs to be developed. It should be early to use the interface and also flexible for input and output. A 3-D flow simulation of turbulent – fluid flow is presented to visualize the flow pattern in-terms of velocity, streamline and pressure distribution on the blade surface are graphically interpreted. The standard K- e turbulence model and the simple model algorithm were chosen for turbulence model and pressure distribution well determined. The simulation was steady Heat transfer and moving reference frame was used to consider the impeller interaction under high resolution. Furthermore, A computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) 3-D simulation is done to analyze the impeller head and efficiency required of centrifugal compressor. The impeller is rotated for a constant revolution and mass flow rate, in this study initially the geometry of centrifugal compressor impeller is created by an ANSYS Vista CCD, and the Blade modeller done by Bladegen, Finally, CFD analysis was performed in ANSYS CFX using the ANSYS Turbo grid meshing tool. According to the analysis, as the number of impeller blades increases, so does the value of the head and power imparted, as well as the impeller’s efficiency.

Condenser is a high pressure side heat exchanger in which heated vapor enters and gets converted into liquid form by condensation process. In the condenser coil, gaseous substance is condensed into liquid by transferring latent heat content present in it to the surrounding. In the whole process, mode of heat transfer is conduction in condenser coil and forced convection between refrigerant and condenser. Any refrigeration system's backbone is comprised of condensers. It aids in the transfer of heat from the refrigerant to the universal sink, which is the atmosphere. The latent heat of the refrigerant is lost in the condenser. At the entry of the condenser, vapours from the compressor enter, and during the length of the condenser, the vapours are converted to liquid form, resulting in refrigerant in the form of saturated or even sub-cooled liquid form at the condenser's exit. In several sectors of chemical and petroleum engineering, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a common tool for simulating flow systems. As a branch of fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is an appropriate tool for investigating and modelling the ANSYS Program. The applicability of CFD studies for simulating the ANSYS Program was reviewed in this work. Ansys CFD is one of the industry's most powerful simulation packages

Plant measured data from VVER-1000 coolant mixing experiments were used within the OECD/NEA and AER coupled code benchmarks for light water reactors to test and validate computational fluid dynamic (CFD) codes. The task is to compare the various calculations with measured data, using specified boundary conditions and core power distributions. The experiments, which are provided for CFD validation, include single loop cooling down or heating-up by disturbing the heat transfer in the steam generator through the steam valves at low reactor power and with all main coolant pumps in operation. CFD calculations have been performed using a numerical grid model of 4.7 million tetrahedral elements. The Best Practice Guidelines in using CFD in nuclear reactor safety applications has been used. Different advanced turbulence models were utilized in the numerical simulation. The results show a clear sector formation of the affected loop at the downcomer, lower plenum and core inlet, which corresponds to the measured values. The maximum local values of the relative temperature rise in the calculation are in the same range of the experiment. Due to this result, it is now possible to improve the mixing models which are usually used in system codes.

To perform the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) investigation, the mesh was created with the ANSYS Meshing tool, and the ANSYS CFX was employed as a solver. The computational domain was split into 5 subdomains, 3 were fluid and 2 were defined as porous media. The volume porosity, loss model, and permeability were set up. In terms of turbulence flow, the standard k–ε model was adopted. The results of the numerical calculations in terms of oil volume fraction and streamline profiles were used to analyze the separator configuration. The results show that the numerical investigation with the VOF (Volume of Fluid Method) - CFD model is capable of analyzing the performance of a two-phase separator equipped with two demisters-porous media.

Abstract The aim of this work is to analyze, by means of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), the gas flow in a packaging machine used to fill polymeric capsules with coffee. The final goal is to optimize the geometric shape of some mechanical components in the machine’s sealing station in order to reduce the inert gas consumption achieving an O2 residual which is constantly equal or below 1 % by mass in the center of the capsule. The fluid domain has been obtained starting from the 3D CAD model of the sealing station of the packaging machine. The CAD software SolidWorks has been used to design the system, while Ansys CFX 14.5 software has been used for the CFD analysis. The CFD model has been validated by comparing its results with those obtained by experimental tests. The modified solution allows reducing the average O2 residual from about 3 % to less than 1 %.

Streszczenie:
Numerical analysis of a multibody mechanism moving in the air is a complicated problem in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Analyzing the motion of a multibody mechanism in a commercial CFD software, i.e., ANSYS Fluent®, is a challenging issue. This is because the components of a mechanism have to be constrained next to each other during the movement in the air to have a reliable numerical aerodynamics simulation. However, such constraints cannot be numerically modeled in a commercial CFD software, and needs to be separately incorporated into models through the programming environment, such as user-defined functions (UDF). This study proposes a nonlinear-incremental dynamic CFD/multibody method to simulate constrained multibody mechanisms in the air using UDF of ANSYS Fluent®. To testify the accuracy of the proposed method, Newton–Euler dynamic equations for a two-link mechanism are solved using Matlab® ordinary differential equations (ODEs), and the numerical results for the constrained mechanisms are compared. The UDF results of ANSYS Fluent® shows good agreement with Matlab®, and can be applied to constrained multibody mechanisms moving in the air. The proposed UDF of ANSYS Fluent® calculates the aerodynamic forces of a flying multibody mechanism in the air for a low simulation cost than the constraint force equation (CFE) method. The results could have implications in designing and analyzing flying robots to help human rescue teams, and nonlinear dynamic analyses of the aerodynamic forces applying on a moving object in the air, such as airplanes, birds, flies, etc.

The paper highlights the features of constructing a model of a wet semi-autogenous grinding mill based on the discrete element method and computational fluid dynamics. The model was built using Rocky DEM (v. 4.4.2, ESSS, Brazil) and Ansys Fluent (v. 2020 R2, Ansys, Inc., United States) software. A list of assumptions and boundary conditions necessary for modeling the process of wet semi-autogenous grinding by the finite element method is presented. The created model makes it possible to determine the energy-coarseness ratios of the semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) process under given conditions. To create the model in Rocky DEM the following models were used: The Linear Spring Rolling Limit rolling model, the Hysteretic Linear Spring model of the normal interaction forces and the Linear Spring Coulomb Limit for tangential forces. When constructing multiphase in Ansys Fluent, the Euler model was used with the primary phase in the form of a pulp with a given viscosity and density, and secondary phases in the form of air, crushing bodies and ore particles. The resistance of the solid phase to air and water was described by the Schiller–Naumann model, and viscosity by the realizable k-epsilon model with a dispersed multiphase turbulence model. The results of the work methods for material interaction coefficients determination were developed. A method for calculating the efficiency of the semi-autogenous grinding process based on the results of numerical simulation by the discrete element method is proposed.

When using tubular MBR to treat sewage, the water production is an important parameter to measure the efficiency of the tubular MBR system. The problem to be solved in this paper is to calculate the water yield of the tubular MBR system, so as to evaluate the sewage treatment efficiency of the MBR system. This research uses the CFD simulation software ANSYS 16.0 to study the water yield of the tubular MBR system. The MBR model of a single membrane filament tube was established using the ICEM CFD preprocessor in ANSYS 16.0, and the structured grid was divided to obtain a grid file. Then, the fluid solver was used to solve the mesh file and through the flow monitoring window to obtain the water output of the tubular MBR system. Finally, the CFD postprocessor in ANSYS 16.0 was used to visualize the calculation results and compare them with the waste-water treatment results of some actual MBR systems. The results show that the water yield calculated by the fluent solver is basically the same as that of the actual MBR system. This research realizes the purpose of calculating the water yield of the tubular MBR system with CFD technology, solves the problem of evaluating the working efficiency of the tubular MBR system with water consumption, and realizes the MBR before deployment The evaluation of the working efficiency of the system has certain reference value for the planning, design, and deployment of MBR.

The coupling of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to the Discrete Element Method (DEM) to simulate fluidization is computationally demanding. Although the Linear Spring-Dahspot (LSD) model can help to reduce the CFD-DEM simulation runtime due to its simplicity, its applicability is not reasonable for all sorts of problems. The objective of the present work is to show the application of the LSD model to the CFD-DEM simulation of alumina fluidization. The simulations were carried out with the software ANSYS FLUENT 14.5 and divided into two parts: (1) the reproduction with ANSYS FLUENT of simulations from the literature in which the LSD model and a representative particle approach were used. (2) the simulation of alumina fluidization and validation with experimental data. The results of three main sets of parameters were analysed to include different DEM and CFD time steps, drag models, the representation of particles with both uniform size and particle size distribution, etc. The main conclusion of this work is that the LSD model and the CFD-DEM approach can be used to model the actual behaviour of alumina fluidized beds, but the high simulation runtime and the correct setting of the strategies used to control it are still limiting factors which deserve special attention.

ANSYS computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is used to investigate triangle strut in VAWT. This study aims to show a CFD simulation of struts, which affects the aerodynamic of VAWT. In CFD software, the aerodynamic of VAWT can be analyzed in terms of pressure losses in the struts. The simulation method starts by making a struts model, then meshing and setting up ANSYS's boundary conditions. The last iteration runs in ANSYS until convergence. Our results show the percentage of pressure losses with the variation of the angle of wind 0°, 20°, 40°, and 60° are 0.67 %, 0.52 %, 0.48 %, and 0.52 %. The effect of triangle strut in VAWT did not affect the wind flow to the VAWT blade. The results also indicated that the triangle strut could be applied in the multi-stage of VAWT system.

Abstract The following paper presents detailed aerodynamic data of a Scottish Aviation Bulldog light aircraft. The data is taken from the pre-stall region of the aircraft flight envelope through two flight test methods and from a geometrically accurate computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the full scale aircraft, which was meshed in Ansys ICEM CFD and solved in Ansys Fluent. The fidelity of the CFD model was achieved by development of a CATIA solid model with surfaces matching a spatial point cloud of the aircraft taken using a 3D laser scanner. Following a CFD verification process, a 3·4m hybrid mesh with a Spalart-Allmaras (SA) turbulence model was found to give the best overall lift and drag characteristics. Further detailed comparisons with the glide flight test data showed the CFD drag polar to have 63% lower zero lift drag, although this discrepancy was related to the simplification of the original CATIA surface model, which excluded the undercarriage, aerials and other protuberance drags. Inclusion of estimates of these sources of drag resulted in a match in zero lift drag to within 15% and a maximum lift to drag of 10:1 which was within 11% of the glide flight test result. The remaining drag discrepancy is attributed to other effects including trim drag and the surface finish of the actual aircraft.

Abstract: Pulsating heat pipe is a heat transfer device which works on two principles that is phase transition and thermal conductivity which transfer heat effectively at different temperatures. Different factors affect the thermal performance of pulsating heat pipe. So, various researchers tried to enhance thermal conductivity by changing parameters such as working fluids, filling ratio, etc. Analysis of heat transfer characteristics of closed loop pulsating heat pipe (CLPHP) is to be carried out by using Computational Fluid Dynamics. The CLPHP is to be modelled on ANSYS Workbench, the flow of CLPHP is to be observed under specific boundary conditions by using ANSYS Fluent software. Acetone and Water are taken as the working fluid with 70% filling ratio at ambient temperature 30° C and the heat flux of 200 W is supplied at evaporator. Also, the analysis has been done to know the behaviour of PHPs under varying supply of heat flux at evaporator (inlet), the output heat flux is obtained at condenser (outlet) and find out how the heat flux is varying at different temperatures. CFD results shows the heat transfer characteristics observing the performance of CLPHP is a numerical manner. The obtained CFD results are compared with the experimental. The outputs of the simulations are plotted in graphs and outlines. Keywords: Closed Loop Pulsating Heat Pipe, CFD, Heat Transfer, ANSYS.

Regression model of melting front Results from CFD model by ANSYS is utilized and integrated inside numerical approach by MATLto generate constants for Nusselt correlations and effective conductivity during different melting stages that can be used to define melting front locations and temperature at grid different locations. In addition, effect of the wall temperature and model aspect ratio variation on melting process have been simulated by ANSYS and analyzed in details. Enthalpy method and conduction equations for 2D model were used to describe the predicted share of convection in melting process, with trial and error by assuming the constants automatically. Accordingly, melting process can be predicted in a simple and a conservative time way at the same time, the results are mainly indicating that convection heat transfer affects the melting process and melting behavior which is in coherence with previous experimental and analytical literature. Also, the effect of aspect ratio were investigated to assure that the more the aspect ratio, the better is the temperature homogeneity.

Abstract This paper presents a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of a wave energy device called the Hull Reservoir Wave Energy Converter (HRWEC). The device consists of a floating hull and a flap connected to the shaft of power take-off system (PTO), which is integral to the hull structure. It is unique due to its ability to convert wave energy by utilizing the pitch motion of the hull and rotating flap due to the internal water movement in the hull. Due to the complexity of the internal fluid dynamics, a CFD-based analysis was considered most appropriate. The CFD investigation of the dynamics of the device was done under regular wave conditions by using the ANSYS-AQWA and ANSYS FLUENT. Relative pitch angle variation, the hydrodynamic coefficients, which determine the degree of power extraction, were obtained from simulated results. A simulation was designed exhibiting complete system dynamics for different configurations varying on internal water height. Excellent convergence was observed, and an optimum configuration was identified. It is expected to validate the simulation results through experiments in the foreseeable future.

Abstract The Angle of Attack (AOA) in a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) plays an important role in determining the forces and the power generated by the wind turbine. It is difficult to find the suitable AOA due to the complex and constantly changing wind flow patterns. In this paper, we have performed CFD simulations using Ansys Fluent software, based on the constantly changing AOA. The CFD simulations were conducted by selecting a suitable range of AOA and the velocity of the wind. The selected range of AOA varied from 5 degrees to 25 degrees with increments of 5 degrees and the range of the air velocities varied from 7m/s to 21m/s with increments of 7m/s. The tests were also performed using the X-Foil software. The results obtained from the CFD simulations, done by using the Ansys Fluent Software and from the X-Foil software, were then compared to give a more accurate and optimized AOA and velocity value. This optimization of the AOA could enhance the overall performance of the Vertical Axis Wind turbine.
