Utilizing a clinical illustration, the concept of the surface of the patient's mind, which arose early in analytic history, is reexamined in relation to the analytic space, the unique affective and communicative dyadic context of the analytic process. The shift from analytic surface to analytic space reflects in clinical theory the metapsychological shift from early structural views to current appreciation of compromise formation. Also, this approach permits broadening of consideration of active unconscious forces in both the patient and the analyst.

The mathematical and physical basis of defining the 3-D analytic function and the corresponding analytic signal is critically examined, and it is proved that 3-D analytic signals based on (1) scalar and (2) vector additions of the horizontal derivatives of the total magnetic fields are completely identical. Two sets of simulated gridded data are considered, and 3-D analytic signals are computed using both scalar and vector additions and are found to be identical. The equality of scalar and vector additions of 3-D analytic signals is further demonstrated with the help of gridded‐surface vertical magnetic field data from the Krishna‐Godavari Basin, Andhra Pradesh, India.

In this paper, we investigate analytic automorphisms of complex topological vector spaces and their applications to linear and nonlinear transitive operators. We constructed some examples of polynomial automorphisms that show that a natural analogue of the Jacobian Conjecture for infinite dimensional spaces is not true. Also, we prove that any separable Fréchet space supports a transitive analytic operator that is not a polynomial. We found some connections of analytic automorphisms and algebraic bases of symmetric polynomials and applications to hypercyclicity of composition operators.

The paper provides an overview of the most fundamental ideas representing analytic philosophy throughout its history from the beginning of 20th century up to now. The history of analytic philosophy is divided into two stages – the early and the contemporary ones. The main distinguishing features of early analytic philosophy are using mathematical logic as a tool of stating and solving philosophical problems, and critical attitude toward ‘metaphysics’, i.e., traditional and contemporary non-analytic philosophical theories. The genesis of analytic philosophy was closely related to the revolution in logic that led to the rise of mathematical logic, and it is no coincidence that some founders of analytic tradition (first of all Frege, Russell, and Carnap) were also prominent logicians. (But there were also authors and schools within early analytic philosophy whose researches were based on less formal tools such as classical logic and linguistic methods of analysis of language. Ordinary language philosophy is an example of this type of philosophy.) Using the new logic as a philosophical tool led to a huge number of new ideas and generated a new type of philosophical criticism that was implemented in a number of projects of ‘overcoming metaphysics’. These features constituted the methodological and thematic profile of early analytic philosophy. As opposed to the later, contemporary analytic philosophy cannot be characterized by a prevailing method or a set of main research topic. Its characteristic features are rather of historical, institutional, and stylistic nature. In the paper, early analytic philosophy is represented by Frege, Russell, early Wittgenstein, Vienna Circle (Schlick, Carnap etc.), and ordinary language philosophy (later Wittgenstein, Ryle, Austin, and Searle). Contemporary analytic philosophy is represented by Quine, and direct reference theory in philosophy of language (Kripke, Donnellan, Kaplan, and Putnam).

The theory of inhomogeneous analytic materials is developed. These are materials where the coefficients entering the equations involve analytic functions. Three types of analytic materials are identified. The first two types involve an integer p . If p takes its maximum value, then we have a complete analytic material. Otherwise, it is incomplete analytic material of rank p . For two-dimensional materials, further progress can be made in the identification of analytic materials by using the well-known fact that a 90 ° rotation applied to a divergence-free field in a simply connected domain yields a curl-free field, and this can then be expressed as the gradient of a potential. Other exact results for the fields in inhomogeneous media are reviewed. Also reviewed is the subject of metamaterials, as these materials provide a way of realizing desirable coefficients in the equations.
