Streszczenie:
The methods for subsynchronous oscillation mitigation based on SVC and STATCOM are analyzed in this paper. According to the IEEE first benchmark model, the electrical damping coefficients respectively provided by SVC and STATCOM connected at the generator terminal, as well as positive damping condition, are deduced by complex torque coefficient approach. Correlative factors which influence the two positive dampings are compared. The analysis results indicate that the positive damping provided by SVC is proportional to the size of system voltage. The positive damping provided by STATCOM is not affected by the size of system voltage, which is mostly proportional to the subsynchronous voltage produced itself. The controllers of SVC and STATCOM are designed and the positive dampings separately offered by SVC and STATCOM are optimized by phase compensation with test signal method. The time domain simulation reveals that STATCOM has stronger damping ability than SVC in the case of short circuit fault.

Streszczenie:
The static var compensator (SVC) is a device which is designed to compensate reactive power, increase voltage stability and to reduce voltage fluctuations. Thyristor controlled reactors (TCRs) are composed of reactors in series with bidirectional pair of thyristors. Current through reactors can be continuously controlled by changing the firing angle of thyristor valves, thus the inductive power can be easily controlled. Typical applications of TCRs in AC systems are voltage stabilization and temporary overvoltage reduction, stability improvement, damping of power oscillations and load balancing. In this paper, harmonic performance analysis of SVC equipped with TCRs is presented. SVCs utilizing TCRs generate harmonic currents and therefore it is necessary to determine the effect of harmonics generated by the SVC on the power system and its elements. This includes interaction of the SVC with the system, the SVC performance under balanced and unbalanced operating conditions and finally, evaluation of countermeasures such as installation of harmonic filters. In order to carry out these analysis, it is necessary to determine harmonic characteristics of the network at the point of SVC connection, existing levels of harmonics, and to know appropriate standards regarding acceptable harmonic levels in the power system. Since harmonic distortions in the system are caused by the interaction between SVC and the system, all system contingencies which may affect system’s frequency response should be evaluated. Detailed power system model should be considered to make sure that parallel resonance points of system do not directly coincide with characteristic harmonics from the SVC. Harmonics generated by SVCs are largely dependent on the operating point within the SVC characteristic. A conservative approach is to use the maximum values of harmonics generated within the spectrum irrespective of the operating point. The results of harmonic performance analysis are important for appropriate design of SVC. Harmonic performance analysis related to SVC application which are presented in this paper include the determination of: frequency response of the transmission network impedance required for the specification and design of filters; the effects of SVC generated harmonics on the power system; the overall filter requirements and countermeasures to reduce harmonics to acceptable levels.

Reasonable allocation reactive power compensation devices in coal mine system can not only develop power factor, it can also solve bus voltage fluctuation problem of coal mine system. By analyzing load characteristic in coal mine system, non-linear impulse load and induction motor can cause bus voltage fluctuation. The characteristic of SVC is that its response speed is quick and it can be adjusted continuously. But the price of SVC is expensive. Reasonable allocation method is that a portion SVC is installed in the bus that are connected with a number of non-linear impulse load and induction motor, SVC is only used to undertake fluctuation load. It can solve voltage fluctuation problem well. Simulation and analysis on WSCC-9 bus system testifies the validation of the proposed method.

<p>This paper focuses on analyzing and evaluating impact of a Static Var Compensator (SVC) on the measured impedance at distance protection relay location on power transmission lines. The measured impedance at the relay location when a fault occurs on the line is determined by using voltage and current signals from voltage and current transformers at the relay and the type of fault occurred on the line. The MHO characteristic is applied to analyze impact of SVC on the distance protection relay. Based on the theory, the authors in this paper develop a simulation program on Matlab/Simulink software to analyze impact of SVC on the distance protection relay. In the power system model, it is supposed that the SVC is located at mid-point of the transmission line to study impact of SVC on the distance relay. The simulation results show that SVC will impact on the measured impedance at the relay when the fault occurs after the location of the SVC on the power transmission line.</p>

Spring viremia of carp (SVC) is a disease caused by a virus belonging to the genus Vesiculovirus, family Rhabdoviridae. The SVC virus is divided into four genogroups, Ia, Ib, Ic, and Id, due to its geographical distribution. This study aimed to identify the genotype of the SVC virus circulating in Poland. Polish SVC virus isolates were propagated on EPC and FHM cell lines, and genetic material (RNA) was isolated. The virus was detected in test samples by reverse transcription, sequenced and analyzed using MEGA 6.06 software. The phylogenetic tree was constructed by the Neighbor-Joining method. The results of phylogenetic analysis revealed the presence of two genogroups of the SVC virus in Poland. Most of Polish isolates belonged to the genogroup Id, as do isolates AY196200 from the Czech Republic, Z37505 from Belgium and EF593149 from the United States. Only two Polish isolates from Silesian Voivodeship were more closely related to Chinese and US isolates belonging to the genogroup Ia. There were no isolates belonging to the genogroups Ib and Ic. Nucleotide sequence analysis revealed certain point mutations between particular isolates. Knowledge on the genetic variants of the SVC virus circulating in Poland will be useful in epizootic investigations and preventive measures to protect Polish aquaculture from new variants from the neighboring countries

Power systems are rapidly evolving to face the increasing penetration of renewable inverter-based generation units and to improve their reliability and safety. A power system is constantly exposed to sudden changes or disturbances that may affect its stability. In this paper, a comparative analysis of solutions to improve transient stability, both rotor angle and frequency stability, is performed. These solutions are SVC, STATCOM, a fast excitation system, and an additional parallel transmission line. Sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate the effects of the location of the three-phase fault line and the most effective SVC or STATCOM installation bus. Based on these analyses, the worst-case fault is considered, and the critical fault clearing time is determined as an engineering parameter for comparing the different solutions. For the numerical analysis, the IEEE 9 bus system is considered, and the PowerWorld software tool is used. Rotor angle and frequency stability analyses were performed. Moreover, specifically for SVC and STATCOM, the effects of different values of short-circuit ratios were considered in the context of rotor angle stability analysis. As part of the frequency stability analysis, the use of the remuneration for load shedding service in Italy was considered to perform an economic analysis for SVC and STATCOM.

We report on an interview study with two groups, student volunteers (SV) and student volunteer chairs (SVC), to explore their experiences in contributing to an academic conference. We identified themes regarding their behaviors and perceptions when communicating with each other through an open coding approach. The analysis of the findings reveals that communication issues exist between SV and SVC. While SV faced challenges approaching SVC, SVC had experienced difficulties in finding the right SV to ask for assistance in the tasks. We also found that the information provided by SVC was not sufficient for SV to perform the assigned tasks. Similarly, SVC had a similar issue where they received limited information from former SVC. We present design implications that enable both SV and SVC to share their availability, preferences, and prior knowledge of potential tasks with each other. This is the first study that reports design opportunities to support SV and SVC.

Purpose – The aim of this paper is to compare the performance of static VAR compensator (SVC) and unified power flow controller (UPFC) in dynamic economic dispatch (DED) problem. DED schedules the online generator outputs with the predicted load demands over a certain period so that the electric power system is operated most economically. During last decade, flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) devices are broadly used for maximizing the loadability of existing power system transmission networks. However, based on the literature survey, the performance of SVC and UPFC incorporated in the DED problem and its cost–benefit analysis are not discussed earlier in any of the literature. Design/methodology/approach – Here, the DED problem is solved applying ABC algorithm incorporating SVC and UPFC. The following conditions are investigated with the incorporation of SVC and UPFC into DED problem: the role of SVC and UPFC for improving the power flow and voltage profile and the approximate analysis on cost recovery and payback period with SVC and UPFC in DED problem. Findings – The incorporation of FACTS devices reduces the generation cost and improves the stability of the system. The percentage cost recovered with FACTS devices is estimated approximately using equated monthly installment (EMI) and non-EMI scheme. It is clear from the illustrations that the installation of FACTS devices is profitable after a certain period. Research limitations/implications – In this research work, the generation cost with FACTS devices is only taken into account while calculating the profit. The other benefits like congestion management, cost gained due to land and cost due to stability issues are not considered. For future work, these things can be considered while calculating the benefit. Originality/value – The originality of the work is incorporation of FACTS devices in DED problem and approximate estimation of recovery cost with FACTS devices in DED problem.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the presence of airway obstruction by determining the FEV1/FVC and FEV1/slow vital capacity (SVC) ratios. METHODS: This was a quantitative, retrospective cross-sectional study. The sample comprised 1,084 individuals who underwent spirometry and plethysmography in a central hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. The study sample was stratified into six groups, by pulmonary function. RESULTS: The analysis of the FEV1/FVC ratio revealed the presence of airway obstruction in 476 individuals (43.9%), compared with 566 individuals (52.2%) for the analysis of the FEV1/SVC ratio. In the airway obstruction, airway obstruction plus lung hyperinflation, and mixed pattern groups, the difference between SVC and FVC (SVC − FVC) was statistically superior to that in the normal pulmonary function, reduced FEF, and restrictive lung disease groups. The SVC − FVC parameter showed a significant negative correlation with FEV1 (in % of the predicted value) only in the airway obstruction plus lung hyperinflation group. CONCLUSIONS: The FEV1/SVC ratio detected the presence of airway obstruction in more individuals than did the FEV1/FVC ratio; that is, the FEV1/SVC ratio is more reliable than is the FEV1/FVC ratio in the detection of obstructive pulmonary disease.

The abundance of data on the internet makes analysis a must. Aspect-based sentiment analysis helps extract valuable information from textual data. Because of limited Arabic resources, this paper enriches the Arabic dataset landscape by creating AraMA, the first and largest Arabic multi-aspect corpus. AraMA comprises 10,750 Google Maps reviews for restaurants in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It covers four aspect categories—food, environment, service, and price—along with four sentiment polarities: positive, negative, neutral, and conflict. All AraMA reviews are labeled with at least two aspect categories. A second version, named AraMAMS, includes reviews labeled with at least two different sentiments, making it the first Arabic multi-aspect, multi-sentiment dataset. AraMAMS has 5312 reviews covering the same four aspect categories and sentiment polarities. Both corpora were evaluated using naïve biased (NB), support vector classification (SVC), linear SVC, and stochastic gradient descent (SGD) models. In the AraMA corpus, the aspect categories task achieved a 91.41% F1 measure result using the SVC model, while in the AraMAMS corpus, the best F1 measure result for aspect categories task reached 91.70% using the linear SVC model.

Objective: To evaluate the economic benefits of routine monitoring of serum vancomycin concentrations and recommend monitoring guidelines. Design: An IRB approved 5-months retrospective chart review. Setting: The study was conducted using patients' medical records in a Teaching hospital. Patients: All patients on intravenous vancomycin, who have stable serum creatinine at the time of initiating vancomycin. Main Outcome Measures: Benefit-to-cost ratio and Return-on-investment were calculated. Benefits were determined using costs avoided that would have occurred in managing SVC-related toxicity, while the cost was the hospital charge for determining SVC. Interventions: Using a computer-generated list of patients on vancomycin from August to December 1995, thirty-one patients' charts were randomly retrieved from the medical records department and reviewed. We extracted and recorded pertinent data on a data collection sheet. The data extracted included SVCs, frequency of SVC determination, dose and duration of vancomycin treatment, and vancomycin untoward effects. Other data recorded were age, weight, height, sex, status of renal function, and other concurrent nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs. Result: The Benefit-to-cost ratio was 0.696, and the Return-on-investment was -30.4%. A mean of 2.83 ± 3.1 SVCs was obtained per patient during a mean therapy duration of 10.2 ± 6.8 days. The mean daily dose (27.8 ± 7.0 mg/kg), peak (21.7 ± 6.54 mcg/mL), and trough (7.4 ± 5.98 mcg/mL) were within recommended standards. Also, two (8.3%) patients experienced increased serum creatinine. Conclusion: Our results show that the routine monitoring of SVCs is not cost beneficial. We recommend only one trough SVC for patients with normal or stable renal functions for a course of treatment. Patients with unstable renal function may require more than one trough SVC determination and should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Peak and trough SVCs should be reserved for patients with other risk factors for ototoxicity.

Background: Forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) to forced vital capacity ratio (FVC) is being used to diagnose the obstructive lung diseases. Forced manoeuvre (FVC) or relaxed/slow manoeuvre (SVC) can be used to determine vital capacity (VC). In healthy individuals the difference between SVC and FVC (SVC-FVC) is minimal whereas in the presence of airway obstruction this difference will become significant. The present study was done with the objective to detect and compare the airway obstruction by determining the FEV1/FVC and FEV1/ SVC ratios. Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study done at OPD, Government Thiruvoteeswarar hospital of thoracic medicine/Kilpauk medical college during the period from September 2016 to February 2017among the patients presenting with symptoms of obstructive airway disease. The sample comprised of 353 patients who underwent spirometry according to standard of ATS/ERS guidelines. As per the criteria, the patients are classified into four groups, by spirometry. Results: The analysis of FEV1/FVC revealed the presence of airway obstruction in 131 (37%) individuals compared to 165 (46%) individuals by the analysis of Fev1/SVC ratio. In the obstruction and mixed groups, the difference in vital capacity SVC – FVC is statistically superior (p<0.05) when compared to normal and restriction groups. Conclusions: The FEV1/SVC ratio detected the presence of airway obstruction in more individuals than did FEV1/FVC ratio and hence FEV1/SVC considered as more reliable factor in the detection of obstructive airway diseases.

Scalable video coding (SVC) can provide different bitrate, resolution, or quality formats of the same video through the one-time encoding process. However, SVC also increases encoding complexity significantly, making real-time implementations difficult especially when applied to high definition videos. In this work, we proposed to utilize a fast mode decision algorithm to speed up the SVC encoder. A simple model of the relationship of the video complexity is proposed, the rate-distortion (RD) cost and the statistical mode distribution of the enhancement layer (EL). The proposed mode decision algorithm evaluates the complexity of the video content, then sets the rate distortion RD cost thresholds for inter coding modes. The method also optimizes the process INTRA_BL for I slices. We demonstrate the method using four different resolutions (1080p, 720p, VGA and QVGA), four temporal layers, and two quality layers. We find that the proposed algorithm can reduce the computational complexity significantly while maintaining or even improving encoder efficiency.

Single-machine infinite-bus system and two-machine system simulation models were built to study the power system transient stability. Based on time domain simulation, the effect of generator inertia time constant (τg), and excitation system ceiling voltage (Ke) on transient stability were analyzed by single-machine infinite-bus system. The changes of transient stability of two-machine system were also compared by means of power system stabilizers (PSS) and static VAR compensator (SVC). In particular, the system transient stability varied greatly in different locations of SVC. Finally, some suggestions concerning the improvement of power system transient stability were put forward.

Reactive power compensation utilizing SVC and STATCOM is the most important method to improve power quality. In this paper, the technical features of SVC and STATCOM are introduced and then a power system in enterprises is used as an example in order to show effectiveness of SVC and STATCOM. Determination of location where SVC and STATCOM should be installed and their capacity is important for enhancement of power system voltage stability. Considering different kind of failure in power grid in enterprises, this paper gives analysis of voltage changes and motor load losses of the power system, on the meantime taking into account of the influence of external grid failure. Based on PSD-BPA software and mathematical model, the optimal design program of reactive power compensation utilizing STATCOM is determined by comparing effectiveness of SVC and STATCOM. A landslide susceptibility model based on a metaheuristic optimization algorithm (germinal center optimization (GCO)) and support vector classification (SVC) is proposed and applied to landslide susceptibility mapping in the Three Gorges Reservoir area in this paper. The proposed GCO-SVC model was constructed via the following steps: First, data on 11 influencing factors and 292 landslide polygons were collected to establish the spatial database. Then, after the influencing factors were subjected to multicollinearity analysis, the data were randomly divided into training and testing sets at a ratio of 7:3. Next, the SVC model with 5-fold cross-validation was optimized by hyperparameter space search using GCO to obtain the optimal hyperparameters, and then the best model was constructed based on the optimal hyperparameters and training set. Finally, the best model acquired by GCO-SVC was applied for landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM), and its performance was compared with that of 6 popular models. The proposed GCO-SVC model achieved better performance (0.9425) than the genetic algorithm support vector classification (GA-SVC; 0.9371), grid search optimized support vector classification (GRID-SVC; 0.9198), random forest (RF; 0.9085), artificial neural network (ANN; 0.9075), K-nearest neighbor (KNN; 0.8976), and decision tree (DT; 0.8914) models in terms of the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), and the trends of the other metrics were consistent with that of the AUC. Therefore, the proposed GCO-SVC model has some advantages in LSM and may be worth promoting for wide use.

8589 Background: Superior Vena Cava Syndrome (SVCS) is a condition characterized by obstruction of the SVC that can commonly be caused by thrombus formation in the SVC. Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) frequently results in obstruction of the SVC. When severe enough, SVCS can present as a life-threatening oncological emergency. In this study we aim to explore baseline characteristics of SVC thrombosis (SVCT) in patients with SCLC, the prevalence of US hospitalizations, and disparities with regards to race and socioeconomic status. Methods: National Inpatient Sample was utilized to obtain pertinent data. Total hospitalizations with coexistent comorbidities of SCLC were extracted from the 2016 to 2019 database. Adult patients with a secondary diagnosis of SVC thrombosis were determined by using ICD-10 codes. We studied the racial and socioeconomic differences as well as length of stay (LOS), total hospital charges (THC), and all-cause mortality outcomes in cancer patients with and without SVC thrombosis. Statistical analysis was performed on STATA, with logistic regression analyses and chi-square tests. Results: A total of 480,750 patients were hospitalized for SCLC. 720 of these patients had SVC thrombosis (0.15% of SCLC patients). The mean age of those with thrombi was significantly lower compared to those without thrombi (64 vs. 69, p < 0.001). The SCLC with SVCT cohort had statistically higher proportion of black patients than the other cohort. Charlson index was significantly higher in SCLC with SVCT cohort (5.8 vs. 5, p < 0.001). Average income between the two cohort groups were similar. Medicaid and private insurance utilization were more common in SCLC with SVCT admissions compared to without SVCT. Patients presenting with SVC thrombosis had an increased hospital LOS (10 vs. 6 days, p < 0.001) and cost compared to other cohorts ($117,320 vs. $80,806, p < 0.005). All-cause mortality in patients with SCLC was 7.7% and the presence of SVC thrombosis significantly increased the odds of inpatient mortality (18.0%). Non-White races were associated with higher odds of mortality in SCLC admissions. In addition, patients with SVC thrombus also had greater odds of having a concomitant pulmonary embolism during hospitalization. Conclusions: In this study we found that race, insurance type, and comorbidities impacted the likelihood of developing thrombosis in the superior vena cava in patients with SCLC. Though the incidence is rare, SVC thrombosis indicates a poor prognostic factor for patients with SCLC. Further studies to evaluate these disparities in race and socioeconomic factors are warranted. The development of thrombosis and subsequent SVC syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition; addressing potential reversible risk factors could improve mortality in a large subgroup of hospitalizations related to SCLC.

The determination of CD4 cells is of crucial clinical importance for patients with AIDS. However, the high costs involved represent limitations for CD4 cell counting in developing countries. In order to provide an affordable technique, we introduced a simplified volumetric counting (SVC) technique without sample manipulations and investigated it in a multicentre study. Blood samples from 434 healthy donors and immunodeficient patients were tested in eight hospital laboratories in Europe, Africa and Asia. CD4 cell counts were compared using inhouse flow cytometric methods and the SVC technique. The SVC method was performed on a low-cost flow cytometer (CyFlow SL, Partec, Münster, Germany) after 15 min antibody incubation without pre-analytic manipulations, such as washing or erythrocyte lysing procedures. Linear regression analysis demonstrated a correlation of r=0.942 (Europe), r=0.952 (Africa) and r=0.989 (Asia) between the SVC technique and the in-house methods. Bland Altman plot analysis of all patient data showed a mean bias between the two methods of +26 CD4 cells in favour of the SVC technique (measured range: 6–1905 cells/μl; median CD4 cell count: 388/μl). Three centres used the FACS-count technique (Becton-Dickinson, San José, Calif., USA) as an in-house method dispensing with pre-analytic manipulations. The comparison of SVC and FACS-count method revealed a mean bias of +32 CD4 cells/μl (median CD4 cell count: 349/μl). The accuracy of the SVC was tested on standards with known CD4 cell counts ( n=6) and was shown to be 95.2%. The low-cost device and the simplified no-lyse, no-wash test procedure reduces the costs per determination and facilitates the use of flow cytometry in developing countries.

Abstract The reliability of electrical power systems has led to the implementation of new equipment with reliable technology to solve transient failures, in recent decades flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) have been implemented in power grids, resulting in high levels of stability and control. One of the elements used is static VAR compensators (SVC), however there is very little information about the dynamic response of the device to network instability and electrical failures, for which Simulink analyses the response of the SVC. The device consists of a 47.1 MVar reactive power compensator and a 97.6 MVar inductive reactivator compensator, implemented in a three-phase 500 kV system. The results indicate the effectiveness of response against network instability while maintaining the stable voltage of the network, but against electrical failures the type and time of failure must be considered. In the case of phase-phase faults, the response of the SVC is limited with drops of 0.52 pu.

Proper installation of flexible ac transmission systems (FACTS) in existing transmission networks can improve transmission system loading margin (LM) to a certain degree and reduce network expansion cost. In the paper, under each contingency with high risk index (RI) value, the modal analysis (MA) technique is used to determine which buses need static var compensator (SVC) installation, and with maximum LM and minimum SVC installation cost composed into the multiobjective function the optimal LM enhancement problem is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem (MOP) and solved by using the fitness sharing multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm for a Pareto front set. In the Pareto front set for each considered contingency, the solution with the biggest performance index value is determined for SVC installation. Finally, an SVC installation scheme derived from the union of the SVC installations for all considered contingencies is recommended for LM enhancement. The proposed method is validated on the IEEE 30-bus reliability test system (RTS) and a practical power system.

Purpose The paper aims to present an application of teaching learning-based optimization (TLBO) algorithm and static Var compensator (SVC) to improve the steady state and dynamic performance of self-excited induction generators (SEIG). Design/methodology/approach The TLBO algorithm is applied to generate the optimal capacitance to maintain rated voltage with different types of prime mover. For a constant speed prime mover, the TLBO algorithm attains the optimal capacitance to have rated load voltage at different loading conditions. In the case of variable speed prime mover, the TLBO methodology is used to obtain the optimal capacitance and prime mover speed to have rated load voltage and frequency. The SVC of fixed capacitor and controlled reactor is used to have a fine tune in capacitance value and control the reactive power. The parameters of SVC are obtained using the TLBO algorithm. Findings The whole system of three-phase induction generator and SVC are established under MatLab/Simulink environment. The performance of the SEIG is demonstrated on two different ratings (i.e. 7.5 kW and 1.5 kW) using the TLBO algorithm and SVC. An experimental setup is built-up using a 1.5 kW three-phase induction machine to confirm the theoretical analysis. The TLBO results are matched with other meta heuristic optimization techniques. Originality/value The paper presents an application of the meta-heuristic algorithms and SVC to analysis the steady state and dynamic performance of SEIG with optimal performance.

Online meeting applications (apps) have emerged as a potential solution for conferencing, education and meetings, etc. during the COVID-19 outbreak and are used by private companies and governments alike. A large number of such apps compete with each other by providing a different set of functions towards users’ satisfaction. These apps take users’ feedback in the form of opinions and reviews which are later used to improve the quality of services. Sentiment analysis serves as the key function to obtain and analyze users’ sentiments from the posted feedback indicating the importance of efficient and accurate sentiment analysis. This study proposes the novel idea of self voting classification (SVC) where multiple variants of the same model are trained using different feature extraction approaches and the final prediction is based on the ensemble of these variants. For experiments, the data collected from the Google Play store for online meeting apps were used. Primarily, the focus of this study is to use a support vector machine (SVM) with the proposed SVC approach using both soft voting (SV) and hard voting (HV) criteria, however, decision tree, logistic regression, and k nearest neighbor have also been investigated for performance appraisal. Three variants of models are trained on a bag of words, term frequency-inverse document frequency, and hashing features to make the ensemble. Experimental results indicate that the proposed SVC approach can elevate the performance of traditional machine learning models substantially. The SVM obtains 1.00 and 0.98 accuracy scores, using HV and SV criteria, respectively when used with the proposed SVC approach. Topic-wise sentiment analysis using the latent Dirichlet allocation technique is performed as well for topic modeling.

Flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices have provided proficient answers to power system instabilities faced in the systems operations today with very little infrastructural investment fund. This paper investigates the effects of the installation of the combination of two kinds of FACTS controllers; static VAR compensator (SVC) and thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) compared with the installation of SVC or TCSC alone in the system. Voltage magnitude profile, active and reactive power losses of the three scenarios were achieved in the Nigerian 48-bus power system network using power system analysis toolbox (PSAT) in MATLAB environment. Simulation results obtained without and with FACTS devices optimally placed using voltage stability sensitivity factor (VSSF), revealed that the percentage decrease of the net real and reactive power losses of the combined SVC and TCSC was the highest at 31.917% whereas that of the standalone SVC and TCSC stood at 19.769% and 30.863% respectively. This shows that in addition to their capabilities to maintain acceptable voltage profile, the combination of SVC and TCSC has better compensating effect as they mitigate against power losses which was observed in their high percentage decrease in power losses compared to the standalone FACTS devices. Geospatial phenomena often have spatial heterogeneity, which is caused by differences in the data generation process from place to place. There are two types of spatial heterogeneity: continuous and discrete, and there has been much discussion about how to analyze one type of spatial heterogeneity. Although geospatial phenomena can have both types of spatial heterogeneities, previous studies have not sufficiently discussed how to consider these two different types of spatial heterogeneity simultaneously and how to detect them separately, which may lead to biased estimates and the wrong interpretation of geospatial phenomena. This study proposes a new approach for the analysis of spatial data with both heterogeneities by combining the eigenvector spatial filtering-based spatially varying coefficient (ESF-SVC) model, which assumes the continuous spatial heterogeneity and generalized lasso (GL) estimation, which assumes discrete spatial heterogeneity and proposes the ESF-GL-SVC model. The performance of ESF-GL-SVC was evaluated through experiments based on a Monte Carlo simulation and confirms that the ESF-GL-SVC showed better performance in estimating coefficients with both types of spatial heterogeneity than the previous two models. The application of the apartment rent data showed that the ESF-GL-SVC outputs the result with the smallest BIC value, and the estimated coefficients depict continuous and discrete spatial heterogeneity in the dataset. Reasonable coefficients were estimated using the ESF-GL-SVC, although some coefficients by ESF-SVC were not.

Background:The Static VAR Compensator (SVC) has the capability of improving reliability, operation and control of the transmission system thereby improving the dynamic performance of power system. SVC is a widely used shunt FACTS device, which is an important tool for the reactive power compensation in high voltage AC transmission systems. The transmission lines compensated with the SVC may experience faults and hence need a protection system against the damage caused by these faults as well as provide the uninterrupted supply of power. Methods:The research work reported in the paper is a successful attempt to reduce the time to detect faults on a SVC-compensated transmission line to less than quarter of a cycle. The relay algorithm involves two ANNs, one for detection and the other for classification of faults, including the identification of the faulted phase/phases. RMS (Root Mean Square) values of line voltages and ratios of sequence components of line currents are used as inputs to the ANNs. Extensive training and testing of the two ANNs have been carried out using the data generated by simulating an SVC-compensated transmission line in PSCAD at a signal sampling frequency of 1 kHz. Back-propagation method has been used for the training and testing. Also the criticality analysis of the existing relay and the modified relay has been done using three fault tree importance measures i.e., Fussell-Vesely (FV) Importance, Risk Achievement Worth (RAW) and Risk Reduction Worth (RRW).Results:It is found that the relay detects any type of fault occurring anywhere on the line with 100% accuracy within a short time of 4 ms. It also classifies the type of the fault and indicates the faulted phase or phases, as the case may be, with 100% accuracy within 15 ms, that is well before a circuit breaker can clear the fault. As demonstrated, fault detection and classification by the use of ANNs is reliable and accurate when a large data set is available for training. The results from the criticality analysis show that the criticality ranking varies in both the designs (existing relay and the existing modified relay) and the ranking of the improved measurement system in the modified relay changes from 2 to 4.Conclusion:A relaying algorithm is proposed for the protection of transmission line compensated with Static Var Compensator (SVC) and criticality ranking of different failure modes of a digital relay is carried out. The proposed scheme has significant advantages over more traditional relaying algorithms. It is suitable for high resistance faults and is not affected by the inception angle nor by the location of fault.

Abstract This paper discusses the unmarked obligatory fronting of the undergoer argument in the Excessive serial verb construction (hereafter SVC) in Mandarin Chinese. Acknowledging the existing description of the semantic-syntactic characteristics of the Excessive SVC (see for example, Li 1994, Shen & Peng 2010, Zhang 2014, Fan 2017), we provide an explicit monoclausal account for the phenomenon of obligatory fronting of the undergoer argument, arguing that it directly correlates with the monoclausal structure. By doing so, we contrast our analysis with the existing analysis by Fan (2017). Furthermore, we argue that despite the flexible ordering of the actor and the undergoer arguments at the similar surface forms of the Excessive SVC, they take different positions in expressions that are in different sequences. In this case, the undergoer argument is always the subject; the actor argument functions as an external topic when it occurs before the undergoer argument and it shows similarities to an inner topic when it occurs after the undergoer argument. Nevertheless, unlike with inner topics, the actor argument that occurs after the subject of the Excessive SVC is restricted to the actor/causer role.

AbstractRecent high-resolution numerical simulations of supercells have identified a feature referred to as the streamwise vorticity current (SVC). Some have presumed the SVC to play a role in tornadogenesis and maintenance, though observations of such a feature have been limited. To this end, 125-m dual-Doppler wind syntheses and mobile mesonet observations are used to examine three observed supercells for evidence of an SVC. Two of the three supercells are found to contain a feature similar to an SVC, while the other supercell contains an antistreamwise vorticity ribbon on the southern fringe of the forward flank. A closer examination of the two supercells with SVCs reveals that the SVCs are located on the cool side of boundaries within the forward flank that separate colder, more turbulent flow from warmer, more laminar flow, similar to numerical simulations. Furthermore, the observed SVCs are similar to those in simulations in that they appear to be associated with baroclinic vorticity generation and have similar appearances in vertical cross sections. Aside from some apparent differences in the location of the maximum streamwise vorticity between simulated and observed SVCs, the SVCs seen in numerical simulations are indeed similar to reality. The SVC, however, may not be essential for tornadogenesis, at least for weak tornadoes, because the supercell that did not have a well-defined SVC produced at least one brief, weak tornado during the analysis period.

Streszczenie:
This paper mainly introduces the dynamic interactional model of SVC and DFIG to ensure the stability of the voltage when wind power generator access to grid massively. Firstly, we analysis the control characteristics based on the dynamic model of SVC and DFIG. Based on the characteristics we establish the dynamic interactional model of them. By using a simplified model of wind power access to the grid, we prove that the voltage of the access point to the grid will stay in the reasonable range through the interaction of SVC and DFIG providing reactive power when the wind power output fluctuates. The conclusion is proved by simulating calculation of a real regional power grid.

Streszczenie:
Traditional voltage regulating means, for example, change the transformation ratio of on-load tap-changing transformer, switch on/off parallel compensation capacitor etc, could not solve transient voltage drop effectively due to slow response speed and inaccurate control. SVC and SVG adopt power electronic device that may be turned on/off at high speed and instantaneous reactive power theory, could output huge reactive power within very short time smoothly, so they are capable to suppress transient voltage drop. This paper analyzes the principles of SVC and SVG to suppress transient voltage drop theoretically, studies their characteristics in this respect through simulation, puts forward precautions for both devices to further suppress transient voltage drop according to the simulation result.

Background: The proliferation of digital commerce has allowed merchants to reach out to a wider customer base, prompting a study of customer reviews to gauge service and product quality through sentiment analysis. Sentiment analysis can be enhanced through subjectivity and objectivity classification with attention mechanisms. Methods: This research includes input corpora of contrasting levels of subjectivity and objectivity from different databases to perform sentiment analysis on user reviews, incorporating attention mechanisms at the aspect level. Three large corpora are chosen as the subjectivity and objectivity datasets, the Shopee user review dataset (ShopeeRD) for subjectivity, together with the Wikipedia English dataset (Wiki-en) and Internet Movie Database (IMDb) for objectivity. Word embeddings are created using Word2Vec with Skip-Gram. Then, a bidirectional LSTM with an attention layer (LSTM-ATT) imposed on word vectors. The performance of the model is evaluated and benchmarked against classification models of Logistics Regression (LR) and Linear SVC (L-SVC). Three models are trained with subjectivity (70% of ShopeeRD) and the objectivity (Wiki-en) embeddings, with ten-fold cross-validation. Next, the three models are evaluated against two datasets (IMDb and 20% of ShopeeRD). The experiments are based on benchmark comparisons, embedding comparison and model comparison with 70-10-20 train-validation-test splits. Data augmentation using AUG-BERT is performed and selected models incorporating AUG-BERT, are compared. Results: L-SVC scored the highest accuracy with 56.9% for objective embeddings (Wiki-en) while the LSTM-ATT scored 69.0% on subjective embeddings (ShopeeRD). Improved performances were observed with data augmentation using AUG-BERT, where the LSTM-ATT+AUG-BERT model scored the highest accuracy at 60.0% for objective embeddings and 70.0% for subjective embeddings, compared to 57% (objective) and 69% (subjective) for L-SVC+AUG-BERT, and 56% (objective) and 68% (subjective) for L-SVC. Conclusions: Utilizing attention layers with subjectivity and objectivity notions has shown improvement to the accuracy of sentiment analysis models.
